Misty Rooks: Hey everybody and welcome to the Make Me Better Podcast. I'm Misty Rooks and today joining me is Tears of Burris. Tears a welcome. Hey, so we didn't have a countdown or anything to give people time to join. So we might just chat for a minute while we're waiting for people to join. ⁓ I know there's a delay, but if anybody can see us or hear us,
Tirsa Burris: Hello, thank you.
Misty Rooks: You can comment and I should be able to see it on my end in the chat. So we're live on Facebook and on YouTube. And I think it's taken a few minutes for it to get that going. So if you are out there and you can see us, just give us a little wave, a heart or something. Fire emoji. ⁓ All right. Wi-Fi straighten up and don't be blurry.
Tirsa Burris: You Amen.
Misty Rooks: I'm trying to check on ⁓ I don't see us popping up on YouTube as being live. Okay. We're just gonna go for it. We're just gonna because I'm pretty sure. All right. So today's guest is Tirza Burris. And she is actually joining us live from Belize. And she is relying solely on Wi-Fi. So if you see a blurry picture or something right now, be patient. It's coming and going, but help us pray that. The Wi-Fi will straighten out and this recording will go smoothly and all the technology and everything will go smoothly. We already prayed before ⁓ we started, before we went live. And so it's gonna have to obey us, okay? All right. So ⁓ Tirza was my very first guest on the Make Me Better podcast. And ⁓
Tirsa Burris: is. Amen. Amen.
Misty Rooks: So we are following up with her today. Thank you, Jane. She said we're live on Facebook. Thank you for that. So we are following up with Tirza today on location in Belize because she joined us. ⁓ we recorded last July, and by the time we aired the first episode, it was in September. So you were already in Belize. But on the first episode, you shared with us your story. sort of the storm that you went through even to the point of trying to take your own life and then you had an encounter and with God I should say with the Holy Spirit at an event for a ⁓ a college ministry, right? And after that encounter, your life was changed and it's just been hear the voice of God and obey, hear the voice of God and obey, which has led to the next step and the next open door, which finally led to you leaving up with a group of people who you felt like God was calling you to join them in their efforts and go to Belize.
Tirsa Burris: Yes.
Misty Rooks: Yeah. So we are going to get to the ministry part of it ⁓ here in just a little while, but I want to say this. When I think of Belize, I think, okay, I had a family member who went on a honeymoon there like almost 30 years ago. So that's the first time I'd ever heard of it. And when I think of Belize, I'm thinking Resort, Pristine Beaches, Beautiful Water, Snorkeling, destination location, all those. All those things that you would see in an ad for a great trip, but tell us about the side of Belize that you see.
Tirsa Burris: So the side of Belize that I see is definitely not all the pretty beaches, the resorts, the snorkeling. Where I'm located is in Spanish Lookout, which is a Mennonite farming community. And we're surrounded by villages. so, like Belize, honestly, it's a mixing pot of different cultures and different things. You have the Creole, you have Spanish speakers, the Mayans, you have the Mennonites. And so... I think every place you go in Belize is all, it's just a little different. There's not one space that's the same. So everywhere you go, you're gonna have a different encounter, whether you're in Spanish lookout, whether you're in Boma Pond, Belize City, Placencia, it, Dandgriga, like everywhere you go, it's gonna be a little different. But where I'm located, it's definitely a bit slower pace of life. ⁓ Just a lot of farming. and it's very ⁓ community driven. ⁓ People are really big on, just yeah, guess community here and I really love it. But yeah, so it's definitely, it's not like the beach. I didn't go to the beach for the first time and believe until just a few weeks ago was my first time making it out to the beach.
Misty Rooks: Wow, okay. So a completely different side than we know. so how is that going as far as you fitting into their culture or is there a group of Americans there that you guys sort of stick together or are you trying to blend in or
Tirsa Burris: Yes.
Misty Rooks: ⁓ do you have any other friends from the states? ⁓ besides the ⁓ the people that you're involved in with your ministry? How how's meeting new people and how's that going?
Tirsa Burris: I feel like that has gone really well. For me, it has been pretty easy to just get immersed. know a few Americans or people that have moved to Belize, whether it's from the States or Canada, but most of the people I am surrounded with on a day to day have been born and raised in Belize. like Belizeans that it's like I was saying earlier, like it's a mixing pot of different things. And so like you can't look at a person and be like, ⁓ this person is Belizean. Like you just don't know. Cause you have your white Mennonites, they have the Spanish, the Mayans, you have the Creole. And so it's just, you don't really know. And then when you have just, yeah, just all kinds of different people that born and raised here. And so. But yeah, the people I hang out with most of the time have been born and raised in Belize. So I think I have maybe one or two American friends out here. So not a whole lot. There's people that are from the States but have been living here for quite some time now.
Misty Rooks: Mm. So, Tierza, I want to talk about this too. you didn't ask me to do this, but I know that because you followed the call of God on your life, you gave up everything that you had back home to go be in full-time ministry. So to be able to do that, you rely solely on donations. Is that correct?
Tirsa Burris: Yes.
Misty Rooks: So I wanted to share her link. it's on her side of the screen. And if you want to support her, but also you'll get a newsletter and you'll get to know what's going on and everything. If you ⁓ go to that link, you can give, you can stay updated on on the types of ministry things that she's doing that she's involved in. So ⁓ that's what I want to ask you about now is Give us an update on the ministry side of things. You you are a busy girl.
Tirsa Burris: Yes, so I feel like there's so many different aspects to our ministry. ⁓ But for the ministry specifically, Ignite Beliefs, we are a Gen Z ministry. So our focus is on Gen Z, on the young ones. Our heart is really to see them ignited for the call of God upon their life and to see them walk that out. So one of our biggest outreaches that we do is a school program. It's called Launch. ⁓ And it is like a purpose discovery program and it's to raise up these young ones to know the call of God upon their life, to understand how to be healthy believers, how to hear the voice of the Lord and how to walk out in leadership. So for we're working on, we've done one class so far ⁓ and we're working on our second class. So once they take that first class, they can go and take the second one. But in the first one, ⁓ We go over what the gospel is. We go over ⁓ heart healing. So we talk about how important it is to have forgiveness and not to walk in unforgiveness because it affects us both physically and spiritually. We talk about father wounds and how even our mother, our father here on earth, that can affect how we see God as our heavenly father. We talk about communication. We talk about community. ⁓ We talk about mentorship and so there there's just been really amazing things that the Lord has done through this ⁓ We have seen students give their life to the Lord. We've seen students receive freedom receive deliverance ⁓ We've seen students learn how to hear the voice of God We do one portion of it is mission portraits. And so that's ⁓ a portion where we're asking the Lord Okay, what is the call that you have for me? What is the vision? What is the mission? ⁓ What is the scripture you have for me? And so here, getting to see these students learn how to hear the voice of God and see exactly what he's saying for their life and to see them start to walk it out is really beautiful because as they learn, like, okay, they're actually hearing the voice of our heavenly father. It boosts up their confidence. It boosts them up in their identity and who they are in Christ. And so It's just been such a huge blessing. That's been one of our biggest things that we stay busy with. We just finished up a few weeks ago with our class and I believe around October is when we'll start back up in school. So I'm super excited about that. And then we also have a lot of worship ministry that we're doing. So right now we're doing some burn nights and that is from, it's a worship, prayer worship night and it's from 7 p.m. till 12 a.m. And it is just a time to hear from the Lord, to pray over each other, to worship ⁓ in spirit and in truth. And so there's no like real structure to it. We have our timeframe, but each time has looked different. And I know every time to lead up, like as we go, it's going to look a little different every single time. And it's just been a beautiful, beautiful thing. We've seen people just really receive. ⁓ heart healing and breakthrough through these events, just encountering the presence of God. So that's been really encouraging. We have another one of those coming up that we'll be doing June 26th in Belize City. So I'm super pumped about that. And then some other worship nights that we do are called Awake Gen Z. And that is a 12 hour prayer worship night. So it's from 7 p.m. all the way till 7 a.m. And the structure for that is really just like, we are there, we're open to whatever the Lord leads, but like our heart posture is to the Lord. And so it's to minister to Him and Him to minister to us and to just have a place of worship and reverence for the Lord and His spirit. And then we have a lot of go with the flow ministry as well.
Misty Rooks: Yeah. So now from seven PM to seven AM, are you guys taking shifts or are you just there the whole time?
Tirsa Burris: We're there the whole time. ⁓ We have some people like for the worship team, we have people that hop on and off. But one of the first ones that we did, we had one guy that played electric guitar from, because we get there a little early, those on the team to enter into worship and prayer beforehand so that when people start arriving, they're already walking into worship going on. ⁓ so one guy got there, it was like about six something. and he played guitar from like six all the way to 3 a.m. without any breaks and that was just absolutely nuts. So it just depends on the person if they like, there's no obligation to stay the whole time but most of us that are on the team, we stay the whole night. ⁓ So yeah.
Misty Rooks: That is amazing. That's amazing because I would have to go to the bathroom. Okay. I'd have to come off the stage.
Tirsa Burris: Yeah, well we have bathroom breaks, we do have baths.
Misty Rooks: Okay, so about how often do you do that all night worship session?
Tirsa Burris: So, so far we have only done two, ⁓ but we are, our desire is to do more. We've so far only done them here in Spanish, look out, but our heart is to take it out to other districts here and believe so districts are just kind of like the States, ⁓ how it is in the States, know, Georgia, Alabama, whatever. ⁓ So we want to go to the different districts and do one in like each city. ⁓ So we're praying that that will happen, but we're also gonna be doing those burn nights throughout as well. We really feel like the Lord is calling us out to ⁓ all of Belize. Like this is not just a Spanish lookout movement, but it is the whole nation. And our heart is it to go from the nation all the way to Central America and every place connected. So.
Misty Rooks: So guys, be in prayer. Be in prayer for this ministry. Call out Tears' name. And is it called Ignite Belize? Ignite Belize. And ⁓ if you want to know more about that, you can just click on her link and then there's plenty of information there for you guys to find out about that. But be praying for them because I also know that they have experienced intense warfare since she has been there. the
Tirsa Burris: It can night please, yes.
Misty Rooks: personally and then, you know, getting ready for these events. So it's not just like, yeah, let's go, you know, do this worship night and let's have a little camp or let's have a a church service or something. It it's warfare. There's things going on, there ⁓ traditions, even witchcraft and stuff like that going on that they they have to battle against to be able to do this kind of work for the Lord. So be in prayer for them. And ⁓ anything else that ⁓ is going on ministry wise that we can be praying for or any other ways to to give to this ministry or support you guys, what what can we do if we're not the ones being called to another country or if our country is so big we could be just called to another state or something, you know, but ⁓
Tirsa Burris: Yeah.
Misty Rooks: You know, you you helped me, you came up with the name Couch to Calling. Okay. Because I if anybody's been following along with the Couch to Calling campaign we've been doing, I was gonna call it Couch to Kingdom. And then I I had a group text going about it and Tears is like, what about couch to calling? And I was like, Yes, that's perfect, because we all have a calling on our lives and sometimes it is to go far away and to a certain people group into a certain area that needs the gospel and they need people to walk alongside them. And sometimes it isn't. Sometimes we're staying at home and we're being moms and we're working or going to school or whatever it is. And we're not called and equipped to go far away or ⁓ you know, do what you guys are doing. ⁓ so for those of us who aren't in that sphere,
Tirsa Burris: Yeah.
Misty Rooks: What can we do though to support you guys? What's the best thing?
Tirsa Burris: Mm. So first and foremost, prayer means the world to us because there is so much power in prayer. Even if you're in a whole other country, there is power in prayer. I've experienced the prayer that people have prayed for me that are not where I'm at, ⁓ and it has impacted and helped so much. so just interceding, if you think, just praying protection ⁓ over us as we go on about just even everyday life. ⁓ That is such a huge impact on the ministry. And then specifically for events, you know, we have our event coming up June 26th. So praying into that. ⁓ And then in August, we will be, we're joining another ministry out here in Belize and we're doing a short mission trip to Guatemala. So if you guys would pray into that as well, pray protection over everybody that is going and just that the Lord would have his way. And then We'll start school back in the fall and so pray for that as well. And if you want to get connected to specifically Ignite the ministry that we are with, I believe our website is ignitebelieves.org. ⁓ And if it is wrong, I can correct that in the comments. But I believe it is ignitebelieves.org and that has a bunch of information ⁓ for the ministry. It has ⁓ It has different links of ways to give. I believe there's some testimonies, pictures, things that we do. You can learn more about our program launch that we go into the schools with. yeah, ignitebeliefs.org is a good way to be able to stay connected.
Misty Rooks: Okay, I'm gonna put that up on the screen really quickly. ⁓ and you know I don't have a producer. I'm the producer, so I'm typing it in.
Tirsa Burris: Hahaha!
Misty Rooks: ⁓ we'll also add this. We'll go back and ⁓ put this in the comments and everything. that took the place of your link, but we'll we'll get it figured out. ⁓ all right, so I think that's it. A quick update, and I'm so excited to to get to do this with you and hear from you love.
Tirsa Burris: Yeah.
Misty Rooks: And let everybody else have a chance to hear from you live ⁓ because you were the very first guest and you set us off. And like I've been waiting for a follow-up because I know that we left people with ⁓ you saying that you were following the call of God to go to pull believe. And if you guys have not watched that episode, it's gonna be episode two.
Tirsa Burris: Okay.
Misty Rooks: ⁓ go back and watch it because the way that that story unfolds and the way that God spoke to her and revealed things to her over time until she knew, like, hey, I'm going to believe I'm supposed to join up with this ministry and go here. It's an amazing story. So you need to go back and hear that. And that's why I wanted to follow up with her today because it's, you know, just to just to say, you can hear from God.
Tirsa Burris: them.
Misty Rooks: Can know his voice, you can understand the ways that he speaks to us, and you can say yes, and it might be scary, it might be terrifying, but you're you're gonna be so dissatisfied with your life when you don't say yes and when you run from it. ⁓
Tirsa Burris: Yeah Yeah.
Misty Rooks: You know, I d I never wanted to fully surrender everything to God because I was like, what if he calls me to Africa? I don't want to I don't want to go do that, you know? And that was just my immature thinking back then. And now I understand if he had called me to Africa, he would have provided everything that I needed to go. And I would have loved it because that's what he called me to. And when you
Tirsa Burris: Yeah.
Misty Rooks: or walking on the path that he has set before you, it is so satisfying and you can be so pleased with yourself and enjoy it because you know that you're doing the right thing and you know that you're obeying. And so don't be worried about surrendering to God and following his voice because when when you do it, when you step into it, it's gonna be great.
Tirsa Burris: Yep, absolutely. There's no better place to be than walking in the call that he has on your life.
Misty Rooks: Absolutely. So go back and listen to that episode. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day. I hope that you hear the voice of God today. I hope that you wake up tomorrow and that you think, what is God gonna ⁓ tell me to do today? And decide already that you're gonna say yes to it before you even know what it is. And don't be scared, just know that whatever he tells you to do, that he's completely.
Tirsa Burris: You
Misty Rooks: completely providing everything you need and guiding you through every step of the way, whether it's big or small, and he gets all the glory for it, right?
Tirsa Burris: Yes.
Misty Rooks: All right. Well, thank you for joining me today.
Tirsa Burris: Yes, thank you for having me.
Misty Rooks: You're welcome. I know you're so busy. So I really appreciate you taking some time out of your day. And we are praying for you. And ⁓ Yeah, we're praying for Ignite Belize and follow them. I will go back and add links in this episode because they went away now off the screen. ⁓ so hey, you're very clear now. so I'll go back and give you the links to ignite believes dot org and then a direct link to support Tierza and get a newsletter and all that stuff from her. So thank you so much ⁓ for joining us today and thank you for listening to the Make Me Better podcast.
Tirsa Burris: Yes.
Tirsa Burris: Hello, thank you.
Misty Rooks: You can comment and I should be able to see it on my end in the chat. So we're live on Facebook and on YouTube. And I think it's taken a few minutes for it to get that going.
