00:00:22
Speaker 1: There's no telling if this injury means he's off the floor for three weeks, is he never returning to play college basketball again. The selection committee will have an interesting team to evaluate if and capital letters i F. If North Carolina over the next month suddenly becomes a team that is capable of beating most NCAA Tournament opponents at faces, then it's going to have to be put in the tricky position of we're going to evaluate a team that had Caleb Wilson an evaluated team that didn't have Caleb Wilson. Depends on what his fate is and his availability for the tournament to begin with. So this becomes one of the more intriguing teams and all of the sport the track over the next three or five weeks.
00:01:00
Speaker 2: That is Matt Norland or CBS talking yesterday about deceeding ramifications of the Caleb Wilson injury. There's so many ins and outs of this dang injury, and that's one of them right there, is how far does the seed drop and if he can't play before selection Sunday, do.
00:01:19
Speaker 3: They put more weight bone on what.
00:01:21
Speaker 2: They were without him because they haven't seen him back yet. If he gets back before then then they can maybe put more weight on the stuff they have done with Caleb on the roster. This is the complex Committee thinking that's going on. We've got to deal with this here. We're also going to talk about the Daytona five hundre. Josh Simms, Yeah, from NASCAR on Fox, is going to join us formerly a CSL right here in Charlotte. He's going to join us. Fly from Daytona duels last night, won by Joey Logano and Chase Elliott front row, Kyle Busch and Chase Briscoe. And the weather has cleared up. When I look this morning, it was only a seventeen percent chance of rain on Sunday in Daytona. So it's starting to look good man, which is good news, good news.
00:02:05
Speaker 4: By the way back, there's a couple of texts here that need to be addressed. I will handle timmy two fingers later. Who sent us a Valentine's poem? A? So what's it? What's a silly koy? What do you call the poem? What the type of poem like a silly koy? What is it called? H Yeah, silly toy. He's got a seven page sillykoy that he sent to us. But right above that is a man A min is very upset. Now he's always mad. What is a miit mad about? Now he's mad. We're talking Caleb Williams again, booms Kayleb Wilson again, because we talked about it in this six o'clock hour, Fitty, would you not say this is a pretty big deal in college basketball world and talk about again.
00:02:44
Speaker 5: It's one of the biggest deals in local sports and it was a big talking point by the national college basketball media. Admit, what would you like us to talk about? That would make you happy? Because no matter what it is, we talk about you right be can playing like a two year old tod?
00:02:59
Speaker 2: Oh my god, what do you want? Look at this text? He says again about Caleb in the nine am hour, six am. I had to turn it off because it was heels fans already morning yesterday and don't want to discuss. Then Dan Bonner brought it up and now again let's talk Panthers, Hornets, NBA ranking solutions, Olympics, et cetera. Lo o o, no heels in Caleb talk. So here's here's been a type of a fan that wants to put his head in the sand and like not hear like bad news about his team discussed, because that's a weird way to do sports talk radio.
00:03:30
Speaker 3: Here's my this be my fight today. I got it, I got this. You got a scrap? Now, how about a man? You let us radio and you listen? How about that? He's does you have a bar or restaurant to go?
00:03:40
Speaker 5: Run?
00:03:41
Speaker 3: He's got like done. He's got a bunch of them, doesn't he? You prepare for your workday, leave the raided to the pro. Man's got an empire. He's got a damn empire. So here's He's definitely not gonna like this segment.
00:03:50
Speaker 4: This ety talk Olympics wore not lose yesterday.
00:03:53
Speaker 3: What's really.
00:03:55
Speaker 5: Women's Americans skated hard against Latvia.
00:03:57
Speaker 2: Women hockey in a quarter today though baby women's hockey team is a machine.
00:04:02
Speaker 3: But anyway, I digress.
00:04:04
Speaker 2: Amid is definitely not gonna like this segment because this is a segment Bone where we discuss the heels fans and non heels fans that texted in earlier and declared the season over. This is this is good. I actually thought Bone we were not totally grim in the previous segments. This is the most grim segment yet, because I'm just gonna read some of these texts that we got I copied and pasted them from earlier. First off, you had Myron Goodman's text yesterday to KB where he said the season ended.
00:04:35
Speaker 3: Now this morning, he has changed his opinion, So I don't know.
00:04:38
Speaker 2: Maybe everybody slept on it for Tar Hill Nation and they're more optimistic.
00:04:41
Speaker 3: Opinion has changed more than my My under Roosts.
00:04:46
Speaker 2: Seven oh four number in the first hour of the show said, guys, I hated for Caleb Wilson. The guy's a class act and a team leader. But without his difference making on both ends of the floor and his leaders, yep, this team is screwed. Another text from a Tar Heel fan. Uh, if this team even makes it into the tournament, I consider it a win. Another texter. If we had a good coach, we would be able to handle this. But Hubert Davis is not a good coach. So those are just a few of the negative Is it worth? I'm gonna ask you, Fitty is as right now a mit must really be angry.
00:05:24
Speaker 3: He's covering his ears right now, yelling.
00:05:26
Speaker 5: No, Fitty, is is it that bad?
00:05:31
Speaker 2: Do you have more positivity than these guys. I mean, it's horrible news. It's horrible news for him. Like Bone said, the sport and the tar Heels. Is there a wor world where they can salvage like a second weekend NCAA appear like I wouldn't rule that out if they can somehow get him healthy that they can be dancing in the Sweet sixteen still or something. I mean, I do think I wouldn't want to play them if he's back, No, and you're and they're an eight or a nine, I don't know, and you.
00:05:59
Speaker 3: Know they're playing a one does a one one to play? Like, what do you think fit? Like? What's still in play?
00:06:06
Speaker 5: I still think what I think their ultimate ceiling is is still in play, which is maybe at best there an Elite eight team if he's back ready to play, gets to play in Charlotte, gets his conditioning back, and then they could get into the tournament, make some sort of a run like I I with some of the losses that they've they've suffered as some of the inconsistent play that they've endured this year, Mack, even with the big time wins, I don't think this was the final four team.
00:06:36
Speaker 2: To win a national championship, they consistent to win that many in a row.
00:06:41
Speaker 5: I don't think they are because they haven't shown that so far this season. So I still think they can achieve what I think their ceiling is. The only difference is that path is going to be harder because that seed is going to be different. You may have to do it as a seven to eight, maybe maybe even a nine or a ten seed, where I still thought there was a case for them to still be on that four line come selection Sunday.
00:07:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a bit we are expecting, naturally bone a huge seed drop and to y'all's point, to your point, bone they can now they can do it. They have proven right with the Duke win, although that's at home, right the Kansas wins a real good one. They have proven an ability to play good enough to beat really good teams. But they're probably gonna have to do it. Like on that first weekend of the NCAA tournament.
00:07:31
Speaker 4: There's a whole lot of pressure not only on the guards but ves are staying out of foul trouble is going to be a major thing here in some of these matchups. I mean some games, if there are playing a perimeter based team. Maybe he can stay out of physicality. But if they didn't have Wilson against Duke and and Boozer got him or one of the bigs got him in foul trouble, there's no depth behind him at all.
00:07:54
Speaker 3: Right now, that's the problem there, Very true, very true.
00:07:56
Speaker 2: Ice up Sun says Tremble and Stevenson will step up.
00:07:59
Speaker 3: They are two of the many that will have to.
00:08:02
Speaker 2: I think Stevenson I disagree with Fiddy about the small lineup.
00:08:06
Speaker 3: I think they will start Stevenson at the four.
00:08:08
Speaker 2: I think they want to keep size, and I think Stevenson is a talent. I know that he hasn't in his college career Bone going back to Bama. I know he hasn't done it consistently, but I think he has a tough matchup for some fours.
00:08:23
Speaker 3: He can stretch the floor. He basically he basically beat Virginia. I mean, but he was second.
00:08:29
Speaker 2: Half, fifteen to second half, whatever it was. I think, But again it's not Caleb Wilson. I mean, Caleb Wilson is a dude Bone that in this loaded draft might go second or third or so. I mean, it's just ridiculous how good he is, and I'm the leadership loss. Somebody said earlier, the leadership loss is almost as big. He had taken that role on Fitty right where he was the guy before games, he was the guy in the huddle. Now, I guess he can still be at the games and do that to a degree, but it's not the same as when he's going out there backing that.
00:09:01
Speaker 3: Stuff up on the court.
00:09:03
Speaker 2: Defensively too, fitty, help side defense, rim protection, ability to play the ball. I mean, it's just his ability to pass. Like now they're gonna throw into Vassar in the post. He doesn't pass like that. When he's doubled, He's.
00:09:17
Speaker 3: Not in the same passer.
00:09:18
Speaker 5: He's still averaging I think right at about two assists game, which isn't bad, which isn't bad for a big man. I just they're gonna play Stevenson a lot at the four. I just think from a lineup and a depth perspective, it makes more sense having that guy coming off the bench as opposed as Aiden high Zaden IINs had some moments where he's played well and he hasn't been a big liability. Is that guy ready to play double digit minutes?
00:09:46
Speaker 3: In answer is no, so I.
00:09:50
Speaker 5: Think that's why I think the small lineup makes a lot more sense to begin games with and to play throughout the game.
00:09:58
Speaker 3: But I do see the.
00:10:00
Speaker 5: I do think when they get in the closing time, I do think Stevenson will be on the core because he has been for the majority of the season.
00:10:06
Speaker 2: Anyway, Shout out Bone to the Heels fan that said, if Zayden High has to get over ten minutes, he is going to get high to cope.
00:10:15
Speaker 3: Because he got high, because he got, he got.
00:10:20
Speaker 4: I don't think I have the same dulcintones as the great Afroman A bright Karls I got by Crawls Got.
00:10:27
Speaker 3: That was a hell of a song, goofy but funny.
00:10:29
Speaker 4: I remember being in my best friend's minivan with that song Blair and as we came down the suburbs at Clemens, North Carolina, because we.
00:10:36
Speaker 3: Got and were you high? No, not at all, you were high on life. Baby. We thought about it once, like, hey, how do we get high? I don't know. We got to find someone that knows how to get high. I never did it. Bone was so square back in today, Finny.
00:10:48
Speaker 2: He thought the song was about being high on life.
00:10:53
Speaker 3: That's awesome. That's inspirational. That high online.
00:10:56
Speaker 4: That was also my best friend's minivan that wouldn't go and reverse. That's whatever we got in a situation where we had to back up. We all had to get out of the car and.
00:11:04
Speaker 2: Push the van back when it's a slight issue, slight inconvenience. But guy Dave says, fitty, they ain't an Elite A team, not even close. Brian says, the fact that you guys think they could have been a Final four team or Elite eight team with Wilson fully healthy is a joke.
00:11:21
Speaker 5: Well, they've beaten Kansas, Duke and Kentucky. The last team to do that overall, mac O two Maryland, What did Maryland do win the national championship?
00:11:31
Speaker 3: Like it?
00:11:31
Speaker 5: The last Carolina team to do that was nineteen eighteen when that team to do win the national championship when they played through their ceiling. Yes, they are a final they have a Final four capability.
00:11:43
Speaker 2: Dude, I think like and I don't think we've seen Caleb Wilson other than the first half against Duke go in to take over mode. I think he's at times like I think they ignore him. At times they go long stretches about getting it to him in the NCAA tournament.
00:11:57
Speaker 3: Maybe we'll still see.
00:11:58
Speaker 2: It, right, Maybe he can get back, can be himself, Bone, we can still see it. But I was looking forward to seeing Caleb Wilson maybe in tournament takeover mode, because I think there's another level. I think there is a him playing like the duke game a lot more regularly out there. But it sucks because now here's the thing guys are saying this. Texter says Mac acting like Caleb Wilson died, Shut the bleep up. He will be back, and I do agree he'll be back. But at that point, Bone is their rustiness. Is he back but he's not fully one hundred percent. I know it's not a shooting hand, but you still need two hands play basketball like those are My concerns is that he's back, but we don't get the best Caleb Wilson and their seed has suffered in the meantime.
00:12:38
Speaker 4: Has now weighed in that he was just kidding. Now, he was obviously just joking, knowing knowing the mid guys, do we think he was just kidding there on that one?
00:12:46
Speaker 3: Now?
00:12:46
Speaker 4: Because he's trying to program the radio show for many a years, he's more full.
00:12:50
Speaker 3: Of an admit or Myron Goodman.
00:12:55
Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, this dude says you are trying to act like Caleb Wilson is MJ in his prime. This team will be okay. Yeah, they'll be okay. But that's the problem. They have the ability, like Fitty was explaining to, you know, beat Duke, be Kentucky, beat Kansas, be great on their day, Okay, is what they're going to be.
00:13:13
Speaker 3: May not be Jordan in his prime, but you.
00:13:15
Speaker 2: Could make a case as the best freshman they've ever had Jordan included statistically, It's not even a debate.
00:13:21
Speaker 6: Yeah he is.
00:13:22
Speaker 5: Statistically he's breaking and setting every freshman record in his first twenty one to twenty two games. And that's what I hate about this man is that, like we know he's not coming back next year. Even in the day and time where Carolina could pay him maybe as much as three to five million, he's not coming back. And I wouldn't want him to like go to the NBA and go be a star at the next level. And he just he's been like the perfect guy, Like he's what Hubert Davis wants in a Carolina basketball player. Yeah, he's a gifted dude, but he loves being Atario, he loves being a part of the campus life in the community, and he can still do that, but now he wants you want to have the same impact on the court for at least three weeks. I think best case scenario, Mac, he's back for the final of the final duke game.
00:14:07
Speaker 3: Mac, I've heard from you.
00:14:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, three weeks, right, and maybe more likely a SEC tournaments.
00:14:11
Speaker 3: Four wee He's like, maybe this hand, you know, heals quickly.
00:14:15
Speaker 4: You know, I've heard back from two longfellows in the audience. Oh hey, now, Willie p and Darren Gant wanted to correct me on soliloquy.
00:14:24
Speaker 3: It's how you say it, not silly quag as. I say, we had you straightened out there, all right. You didn't need these poet laureates. I break it down. Disappointed Darreny. It takes it takes uh something strong to disappoint Darren Gang. I mean, this is the.
00:14:37
Speaker 2: Same dude that said, what were some of the ones? You've got a lot of funny mispronunciations instead of cognac. God, that's funny.
00:14:48
Speaker 4: Remember they had me doing the international soccer reads at one point. Boy, was that was that a Chorphan. It was Dicey that definitely got what's the one parent Paris, Saint the what's the one there, Paris, Paris, Saint Jermain.
00:14:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, Saint German did not. I thought it was Turman Harris, Saint Germaine.
00:15:04
Speaker 4: Look man, they don't pay me to speak well.
00:15:08
Speaker 2: Bone thought it was a team that was part Parisian and part based in Munich.
00:15:12
Speaker 3: They thought it was like a hybrid team. Bone. Can you ask DG if is a Christmas tree up?
00:15:19
Speaker 4: I will my neighbor still does across the street, by the way, because.
00:15:22
Speaker 5: The last time he posted on the Instagram, the Christmas tree was still there.
00:15:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, gets to the bottom of that. That's a hell of a question. We haven't followed up on that. He's listening right now. He's a Christmas freak, isn't he keep it a tree up like that?
00:15:33
Speaker 3: Or lazy as hell?
00:15:34
Speaker 2: At dude, we got people that are There's so many people in our neighborhood that you can see they just leave their lights up, like the lights on the house or whatever. Yeah, like they don't turn them on this time of year, but they just leave them there. And I'm partly jealous because missus back, doesn't give me that option, But I'm partly like, really, you can't just take them things down.
00:15:56
Speaker 4: Across the street from me has their tree up with the lights on every night, still window open, tree.
00:16:00
Speaker 3: World, living in Christmas every day.
00:16:02
Speaker 4: People thought it's gonna be a March Madness tree at some point, but they're bracket up on that bad boy.
00:16:06
Speaker 3: When we come back.
00:16:07
Speaker 4: Friend of the Show, Live from Daytona from Fox Sports, Josh Simms joins the show That's Next Mac Bone Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.
00:16:30
Speaker 3: Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z.
00:16:33
Speaker 2: Mac and Bone with you getting ready to talk from Daytona. Five hundred duels were last night. Bone and I were tools were five minutes ago. Bone and I were simply trying to have a conversation about the wonder kid in NASCAR, Connor Zilch. And next thing you know, p Man is a viscerating fitty. I never I'm just screaming at him. I've never seen a human being that mad before, honestly, and.
00:16:57
Speaker 3: I guess you have.
00:16:57
Speaker 2: The last time I made him mad, I thought he was looking at first like we do a lot of play yelling around this place.
00:17:03
Speaker 4: How wasn't play yelling Fitty. Oh my god, I thank god Josh Sims was coming on. I had to tell him we got to get a guest on. We can't, we can't do this.
00:17:13
Speaker 2: Josh sim doesn't want to hear about our issues, man, But anyway, I just Cotton Village though something he is. How about that Connor Village. How about them duels last night? How about Chase Elliott fit Chase Elly winning a baby the forges.
00:17:23
Speaker 3: We're strong in that first one.
00:17:25
Speaker 2: I will say this, Fitny has this thing about him bone that would make me even more mad.
00:17:29
Speaker 3: If I was mad at him.
00:17:31
Speaker 2: He's the guy that when you're seriously like mad at him, just keeps needling. He ha's that way about him anyway. All right, let's bring on Josh Simms. We don't need Josh Sims to do any therapy sessions here. We will handle our disputes on our own, and Josh Simms does not to be brought into this controversy.
00:17:50
Speaker 3: He is having fun down there in Daytona.
00:17:53
Speaker 2: Beach, where he, of course, was a part of the duels broadcast last night.
00:17:56
Speaker 3: Now he never got yelled out on City News.
00:17:58
Speaker 2: I guess a part of the Daytona five Odred broadcast on Sunday.
00:18:02
Speaker 3: Josh, how you been doing, man? What's going on?
00:18:05
Speaker 6: I'm good man. Hey listen. If you guys got some issues you want to work out, have been working on my little therapy talk. So if you guys want to lay down on the couch, we can talk through all of this. I can help you out.
00:18:15
Speaker 3: That's quite an oddome right here.
00:18:17
Speaker 7: Man.
00:18:17
Speaker 4: I've seen it, heard a lot of things, Josh, I've seen it, heard a lot of things. Oh man, that is hilarious these two, these two fighting though, would be why two NASCAR driver fighting though? Like the Gordon Kenzies kind of are uh kind of our Jimmy Spencer mack right when you say that.
00:18:35
Speaker 2: I think you give him too much fighting credit there, Josh, what did you think.
00:18:39
Speaker 3: So last night? Based on last night?
00:18:42
Speaker 2: I mentioned the Fords they kind of got in front those four and just kind of dominating Legano one, Uh, Toyota strong early in the second one, and then the Hendrick cars were real strong by the end. The Chevyes host far was up there too. What have you learned while you've been down there this week? And do what you learn yesterday?
00:18:59
Speaker 6: Like?
00:18:59
Speaker 3: Who are is?
00:19:01
Speaker 6: So?
00:19:01
Speaker 2: Does every it seems pretty balanced. It seems like every manufacturer is gonna have a say in this thing.
00:19:07
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's.
00:19:08
Speaker 3: The big takeaway, right.
00:19:09
Speaker 6: You go into it thinking you've got the favorites, and then, like you mentioned, the Fords were strong. Of course, Chevy's were strong. He flying. I don't know if you could hear that. They're they're flying over right now here at the track. So it's getting a little bit loud. The full atmosphere, you guys are getting very much. What I think we learned is that just I mean, just like any other year, right, the strong parts of the strong cars with a team Penske who works so well together when it comes to drafting tracks and super speedways. Obviously, Chase Elliott showed that Hendrick is just the strong. Of course, William Byron going for his third straight days on a five hundred, Kyle Larson, do not sleep on him. Do not look at the numbers and the struggles he's had on these super speedways in the past, because I think the biggest takeaway from what he's been telling media over the last couple of weeks is he used to come to these tracks feeling like he had no shot that narrow if has completely changed for him. He's been in contention late in races. It's not a matter of if. I think it's a matter of when for a guy like him. The RFK drivers were strong last night. You mentioned a guy like Carson Hostavar strong, and then don't forget about twenty three eleven, the way Bubba Wallace was able to carve his way through the field get up to the front, but wasn't for a bat push he might have won his.
00:20:20
Speaker 3: Second duel in a row.
00:20:22
Speaker 6: And Reddick was able to get to the front of his duel as well. So there's a lot of strength balanced out through the field and there's a lot of players that could make their way to victory lane comes someday, Josh.
00:20:34
Speaker 4: When I was researching stuff about storylines involving Daytona this weekend, the number one thing that came up on multiple sites is the young phenom Connor Zilich from my area there. What's your expectation long term ceiling wise for him and what do you expect here from the young driver in his rookie season.
00:20:54
Speaker 6: Yeah, man, I mean we call him, you know, an up andcoming, a rising superstar if you will, for a reason. I mean talking with Kevin Harvick, who's the guy that's known him for a long time. He's seen his rise. This is a kid that's going to overseas raced with pros, race in just about everything you can imagine, and one at a high level. We saw what he did in the O'Reilly Auto Parts series last year, So the expectation is heavy on this kid. We expect him to produce and have a very long and successful Cup career. But we also have to remember that the biggest transition is from that O'Reilly Auto Part's garage to that Cup garage, and it's hard to come in and have success right away. But this kid is mature beyond his years. He has all the tools to be successful. He has some good teammates to work with, an FBG who I'm excited to see those two stool it out when it comes to the road courses and the street courses, and a guy like Ross Chastain who's as consistent as they come. I think, you know, this kid has a very high ceiling. He can produce at a high level. But we you know, like you don't want to put too much on his plate. You want to be patient, with him because it is asking a lot to have him come in and start winning right away. But don't be surprised that this kid has success at an early early clip right away in a Cup series.
00:22:11
Speaker 2: I think one of the biggest stories this season again also is going to be on the other side of the age and experienced spectrum is going to be Denny Hamlin. He's a guy that, admittedly as a fan, has driven me crazy over the years. Josh, I'm one of those fans booing he gets up there, I beat your favorite driver and it drives me crazy and all that, but you can't dispute his talent, and I do. I wonder if the dynamic will change with fans this year after he you know, he loses his father and what he's been and what he's kind of been through. Heck, the fire at his house, I mean, he's been through some stuff. Do you what do you think about whether or not this could be with a new playoff format, which we ask you about I'm sure in a minute, But what do you think about the chances this is the year that he can do it?
00:22:56
Speaker 3: And do you think fans will soften up on him?
00:22:58
Speaker 2: I mean, I know, I don't think i'd feel I can, like, you know, make the same wise cracks and feel the same anymore.
00:23:05
Speaker 3: You know.
00:23:06
Speaker 6: Yeah, man, It's it's hard, you know not to feel for him, given everything he went through last year, both on track and then off track during the off season, and you know, he's been very open, he's been very candid. He actually sat down with our Tom Ronaldi for a piece that will air on race Day on Sunday. I had a chance to catch up with Ronaldi the other day. Ronaldi, Man, this guy talks exactly like he does on air off air, and I met him for the first time, and he made me feel like I've known him for years. And he's like, well, you know, Josh, the thing about Denny Hamlin, you know, and everything he's been through, and he gets back in the car and you know, like he doesn't, you know, know how he's going to be able to feel going out there and competing again with everything he's gone through. But there's a heavyweight and I'm not doing Ronaldi anymore.
00:23:49
Speaker 3: Back to.
00:23:51
Speaker 7: Right. It's very soothing voice, yes it is, but there's there's so much weight on Denny's shoulders and you wonder how he's able to just block everything out and get out there and compete. But at the end of the day, these guys are race car drivers. They're the best in the world at what they do.
00:24:11
Speaker 6: We saw him be competitive, obviously in the clash last week and the duel last night, and we know how successful he's been when it comes to year in and year out, putting together a full season but not being able to get to the finish line because of the way the playoff was set up. But now with the Chase being back and consistency being the key, and Denny is as consistent as they come. And I know at the end of last year he was like, if I can't win it this way, I don't know how well. This is how he can get it done because the Chase is back. If he can be consistent, he can block out all the other stuff going on and just get back to top fiving you to death, getting wins to death, top ten of you, turning days when you got a twentieth place car into a tenth place car. He's one of the best at doing that. If he can do that for a complete season, there's no reason he can't be hoisting that trophy at the end of the year.
00:24:59
Speaker 4: Jo the kind of season are you expecting from Kyle Busch this year?
00:25:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, Man, Kyle has had a rough go the last couple of years. It's crazy to think how long it's been since he's been able to get to Victory Lane, especially because when he came over to you know, Richard Childress, he was winning right away in that eight par and then it's been a bit of a struggle. I think, you know, he showed right away just a little bit of a different Kyle Busch. You know, he wins the poll and he talks about how, you know, he never put too much focus on qualifying because he never did well. But you saw how much fun he had celebrating the fact that he won the pole. We had him on the race they show last night. He's in a great mood. You know. Obviously it's something that weighs on you when you're tried twenty times and you haven't won Daytona five hundred. And he's done just about everything in his career, from championships to winning all these Crown jewels, and the last thing is that Daytona five hundred that he wants so bad. But you know, new crew chief of Jim Paulman, who won a championship with Justin Olgeyer and the Ol'rally All the Part Series a couple of years ago. I think that's a good match for those two to be working together. And I think right off the bat, we're seeing a re energized pile of Kyle who's going out here to prove something, and I think it could be a good season for him. That could be you know, started off with the win of the Daytona five hundred. He's been so close, remember a couple of years ago. If that race doesn't go to overtime, he's got it. But you know that's that's the way things fall. But he showed right away that car at speed. Now it's about avoiding the big one and being there at the end of the shot to win it. All.
00:26:24
Speaker 2: Right, last question I have for you, Josh, is that new playoff kind of new old playoff format. They're going back to that chase format, and it really does feel like it is a compromise between the two extremes. Right there were folks that say, I love the way it is right now, don't change it, And then you had a ton of fans that were like, let's go back to the old days where there's no playoff format and it's just a season long points race. Well, how do you do you think they hit home run with is? How do you think this is going to work out?
00:26:57
Speaker 6: I think the drivers seem to be happy with it, and I think that's the most important thing. And I think for them it puts obviously a premium on you know, it's not win and you're in anymore. Wins are still important because you get an extra fifteen points to get fifty five points nowt to of forty for win, which is very important. But it also stresses the fact that you know, those DNFs, man, you can't just throw it in there and throw caution into the wind and take these crazy risks during the season because if those start the pile up, you got no shot of winning a championship. So, like I said about Denny, it gets back to that consistency factor and it plays into the hands of guys like Chase Elliott and William Byron, you know, like guys like you know Denny Hamlin that are able to be consistent all year long. It's Tyler Reddick as well. So I think it's great. I think the drivers are excited for it. You know, the thing I will miss is those TV moments we had like a Ross Chast name when he had to ride the wall and you know, you know that just created instant TV moments. But like, how many of those moments did we really create? I guess you say, with that format you can count maybe one or two of those. So those cut off the while fun from a TV aspect for us, the viewers, the guys that are you know, broadcasting these races, like it's a cutoff. Who's gonna you know, make a crazy Paul to get themselves a win and get in and do this and do that. That's over. But at the end of the day, you want to reward the drivers that are able to be a great start to finish as opposed to those that have some struggles, hit it here and then have more struggles, hit it here and advance through. So I think they made the right decision. What's going back to the chase?
00:28:35
Speaker 3: All right, y'all?
00:28:36
Speaker 2: Daytona five hundred on Sunday it is on Fox. Race gets going shortly after three. What time are you guys on the air on Saturday.
00:28:43
Speaker 6: Twelve thirty baby, well thirty.
00:28:45
Speaker 2: Oh nice, big robust Daytona five hundred pre rays. All right, brother, hey, you go back to covering the Great American Race. We'll go back to inner office squabbles. All right, that's what that's I think, advantage Josh on this one. All right, man, hey, fun this weekend.
00:29:01
Speaker 6: Just remember, if you guys are gonna squabble, take the helmets off before you start swinging.
00:29:06
Speaker 3: Matt, gotta be a man, that is true. Be a man, all right, be good man. Appreciate you Mac and and a.
00:29:14
Speaker 4: Bit of irony there during that interview. I got my Uh, you probably did too. Our harassment training is due? Is that a coincidence that I just dropped there in the next timing? Perfect timing? What about the screaming at co workers training? Is there is there something specifically for that form?
00:29:32
Speaker 3: I don't know. I gotta tell you that's about us.
00:29:34
Speaker 4: You know, like when cartoon characters would get mad and the red thing would stick out of their head or what they got hit on the head, they like, sore steam comes out. Yeah, Willie was okay, a cartoon character, all of that. Man, I want the world to know.
00:29:50
Speaker 2: The NASCAR story, the NASCAR story that went viral to cut bone's eye and it is. It's pretty entertaining. It was just random. It's pretty entertaining. This on the podcast. I forget what it's called, but oh, bless your heart, and heart is spelled like Earnhardt ha r dt. See what they did there, Dale Junior and Amy Earnhardt his wife, do this podcast together and they're funny. They got a funny dynamic. I can relate to it with me and my wife and some of the back and forth and stuff. But anyway, on this week's addition, she talked about how when she first started dayton Dale in like two thousand and eight two thousand and nine time frame, she went to visit him at a race in Daytona and heard that Jessica Simpson was at the track and she wanted to meet Jessica Simpsons. She was a huge fan of Jessica Simpson. Well Dale told her, I don't know if that's a good idea, but they ended up meeting her. I guess Dale kind of knew that Jessica Simpson might be kind of into him. Well, Jessica Simpson starts right there in front of Amy, starts talking about how she had a dream that her and Dale were married and lived happily. Ever after, he showed her a clip of it, and he showed Amy a clip of it.
00:30:58
Speaker 4: Oh, show is that what it is? Yeah, he showed her a clip of it. This so she never got to meet her. Well, no, he he shows her the quote. He shows me the clip of her doing an interview earlier that day. Okay, how she had a dream that she and Dale Junior got married in a treehouse.
00:31:12
Speaker 2: Okay, that's what it was. So she didn't hear it from her. It was the video he showed her. So anyway, she says, she claims to this day she was trying to fish my man.
00:31:23
Speaker 3: That's her word, fish my man.
00:31:26
Speaker 2: And she says that she never wanted to be a Meeter ever again, and she holds a grudge to this day and will never buy any Jessica Simpson products ever in her lifetime.
00:31:36
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:31:36
Speaker 4: She also said she told Dale, don't bring that be over here. It's not a good idea.
00:31:44
Speaker 3: I see you. Junior Junior had some game when he was singled back. He had some damn those GASCAR drivers. I'm sure I'll have some sort of game.
00:31:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, you would think you would think rich athletes of any form probably got some game. I mean, look like a Kyle Busch. Dude looks like alfredy Newman. His wife is gorgeous.
00:32:03
Speaker 4: I want I lost a uh back in the day, I was trying to uh woo uh a woman and I walked down to a NASCAR driver.
00:32:15
Speaker 2: Always give any names? What was that like? That had to be like a modified driver? Like what level of NASCAR driver would you be in competition with? I can't imagine you and the Cup guys were going head to head one of the all time greats?
00:32:29
Speaker 3: What yea? How have I never heard this story? Yeah, I'm not gonna give names because all time, I don't know what.
00:32:36
Speaker 4: I don't know what their situation was at the time, So I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sity.
00:32:39
Speaker 3: Earnhart got Teresa over you. It wasn't him.
00:32:44
Speaker 2: Chandra Johnson, the model, let me go see what it could have gone either way.
00:32:47
Speaker 4: We go see when this guy was married. I'm not gonna say anything about it.
00:32:50
Speaker 2: Ingrid van den Bosch, the model, Jeff Gordon's wife. Will you settle down, my god?
00:32:56
Speaker 4: Whatever happens in moors wat it wasn't even worse all the time.
00:33:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, Denny Hammlin and his former hornets. Are we just just what are we doing? I'm coming up with all the women that would not even like look at Bone that were with get so mean about it.
00:33:14
Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but you can't just you just can't help yourself, can you. I can't be it.
00:33:20
Speaker 2: Someone's guessing Kyle Busch, Samantha Bush, No, it's not.
00:33:23
Speaker 4: It's not again. I'm not going to tell you who it was because I don't know. I don't know who, like you know what I'm saying, like, I don't remember what the situation was with the purse.
00:33:34
Speaker 2: Someone thinks you and Dick Trickle got into it over a woman. I never got into a Dick Trickle. You just wanted me to say Dick Trickle on the radio. I don't, and you just did. I don't mean to be I shouldn't be mean him being. I should be celebrating the fact that Bone was in the mix with a NASCAR stallion.
00:33:50
Speaker 3: Now he didn't win, but he was in the mix. Baby, he's in the race. You know.
00:33:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, let me go with this research that up, Bony. All right, man, take us the break, yea, why what this?
00:34:00
Speaker 2: Okay, I'll do that man, Michael Walter, people are down there, every NASCAR drivers being guessed.
00:34:05
Speaker 3: You and Buffy unbelieved.
00:34:06
Speaker 2: All right, anyway, when we come back, bone man, we gotta wrap this up. We gotta set the weekend and let you know what's coming up. We're doing it right here. When can you watch con this weekend? We'll tell you. Sports Radio ninety two seven w FNZ.

Just find some guy used to you know it used to like wrestle bears and Lithuania or something. The Big ten is no joke, buddy. Yeah, everybody's big. Yeah, everybody strong. Yeah, I mean almost.
00:35:04
Speaker 6: I shouldn't say that.
00:35:05
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, yes, life in.
00:35:06
Speaker 6: The big.
00:35:08
Speaker 4: As Mick Cronin, who did not make the Coaches Gone Wild, he made the Coaches Making Joke segment. Today, Matt, the New York puts your job about that cut of the day. Locations in dill Worth, grnelli Is, Fort mil Belmont and Carrie make sure for Valentine's Day, you check out one of your local New York but your chops for their seventy nine dollars Valentine's packet, check him out on Instagram and why but your wine bar.
00:35:31
Speaker 2: Mick Cronin made it funny. I was amazed. I thought for sure was going to be an angry ran.
00:35:35
Speaker 3: He also talked about how much he loves his dog and his dog's happiness is very important to him. Like he actually showed a like fun human side.
00:35:44
Speaker 6: He did.
00:35:45
Speaker 2: He'll go back to being angry after this weekend. There'll be something piss him off. He'll be back and the coaches gone wild. Next time we do it UH one with the Eastern European alcohol drinking Bear Hunter her big week in UH in the NBA with the All Star Game, obviously in the All Star festivities. Speaker 3: We got squad did lay.
00:36:21
Speaker 2: But next year we have determined bone that we're getting at least one and maybe multiple All Stars.
00:36:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, that covers it right. Then can Musa mega? Can we get four all stars? Home?
00:36:31
Speaker 2: Manu? And then what else we got going on? Obviously Daytona five hundred on Sunday after three o'clock Green Flag Big College Basketball weekend. Tomorrow heels without Caleb Wilson against pitt Clemson at Duke against Cameron. We'll see if Gung is healthy and can play. And NC State please bounce back, wolf Pack, please bounce back from that train wreck at Louisville. They got Miami at home tomorrow as well. Could be in a dust of you.
00:36:58
Speaker 3: Let's see you and Grease Missilla getting no no, no, no, no, no.
00:37:01
Speaker 4: Man, me and Mike b oh Okay, he wants to know why we were talking Kayleb Wilson today and not Kobe White, who plays on eight days. We'll talk about when he comes back. We now have upset Kobe White fan today. We've got hockey guy that's mad that he's not getting Hurricanes talk despite them not playing until the end of the month. We've got college baseball guy fired back. Everybody wants their own individual radio show right now. And this is what happens when we don't have football Friday.
00:37:30
Speaker 3: That's it.
00:37:30
Speaker 2: That's it's Football is a unifying thing. Everybody is happy on football Fridays. What you did get, though, Bone, is you did get a couple of people to tell different stories about brushes with celebrities. After your whole story about you and a NASCAR driver dueling over over a young lady.
00:37:48
Speaker 3: We've got it.
00:37:49
Speaker 2: Uh, We've got it right here on the text line. We've got a guy who says when him and his wife lived in Nashville, she was asked out by a country star they were dating, and she turned the country star down. He says, I told her I would have been devastated, but also I would have understood if she bounced on me.
00:38:07
Speaker 3: So there you go. This guy got one up on the country star.
00:38:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I told you during to break who it was, mag I'm not making it up that was I'm not saying that I think the woman went on a date with I wasn't that he ended up marrying the now, but it was somewhere he was involved somehow in that time period.
00:38:24
Speaker 2: Gotta tell your bone that'd be a tough one for you to compete with. Yeah, for all of us to compete with.
00:38:31
Speaker 3: Let's see this cap back with off cars. There you go.
00:38:35
Speaker 4: Paul's got a Dick Trickle story. I'm sorry, he said, No, I think mac mac does ad for places.
00:38:41
Speaker 3: I can help you. I didn't realize how that sounded.
00:38:45
Speaker 2: No, the NASCAR driver, He says one race weekend in Richmond, the night before a Richmond race, he got into a drinking contest with Dick Trickle.
00:38:56
Speaker 3: His friends had to carry him out. He says.
00:38:58
Speaker 2: The next morning, I was the sickest eye ever been. Almost went to the hospital.
00:39:02
Speaker 3: He says.
00:39:03
Speaker 2: I thought there's no way Trickle would be able to race. He was fine in the pre race interviews and ran the whole race. The man was a true iron man, that is from Paul. Don't try to get into a dang drinking contest with like an old Midwest short track racer.
00:39:19
Speaker 3: Take Trickle. That is that you ain't winning that he's got a bladder of the Gods. Texter thinks that bone or had a bladder of God rest his soul. There you go, U person.
00:39:29
Speaker 2: The Texter thinks that bone was fighting over h Granny pat with NASCAR driver Lee Petty that way back in the day.
00:39:36
Speaker 3: Bone. That would have you very old, very old.
00:39:39
Speaker 4: By the way, Mack weather Man Mark just sent us a picture of his Christmas tree all went up that he keeps up twelve months out.
00:39:47
Speaker 3: Of the year.
00:39:49
Speaker 2: He's one too, Huh, Yes, how about that, Ba. He's too busy with the wind turbine now in the backyard. Doesn't have time. Somebody asked if Fitty cried over Kormack, Ryan, how's he holding up over over Caleb.
00:40:00
Speaker 3: I think you've been strong today, Vitty. Well, because I know that Caleb's coming back.
00:40:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, because he's tweeted about playing again when Cormack season came to an end.
00:40:10
Speaker 3: That was it, man, I'll probably cry over Caleb. I love that kid. That was it.
00:40:14
Speaker 4: Uh Like, I did not realize that only four other rookies ever have competed in the three point contest in the history of the three point contest. Con is the fifth Rookie's.
00:40:25
Speaker 2: Crazy and he's favored too. Yeah, God, he's badass. We got some Tech.
00:40:30
Speaker 4: Comer League Championship three points for him. It's all coming up, all happening. We got texts when we played the video or the audio of STI Steve the video the audio. Steve Smith and Cam both apologized to each other for the for the way they wor at each other in their relationship and ultimately led the tension there ultimately led to Smitty getting released. And I just asked the question, what would have happened if we had if they could have got along better, and Smitty was on the twenty fifteen team. Multiple people said unbeaten super Bowl champ. Somebody said greatest team ever, and then you had this guy.
00:41:06
Speaker 2: Hey, maybe if Smidy was on the twenty fifteen team, he would have been in the Super Bowl, and maybe he would have actually jumped on the fumble on my camp.
00:41:13
Speaker 3: Hey, we got that as well.
00:41:15
Speaker 4: All Right, we're out of here, hey, weather Man, Mark, what's bagged Dolores Jordan's grocery?
00:41:20
Speaker 3: Okay, wilds bomb back in the day? Hey no, Hey, now, is that is that a euphemism?
00:41:25
Speaker 6: Where?
00:41:25
Speaker 4: All right, all right, we're out of here, y'all, everybody is bagged the wors Jordan's grocery.
00:41:30
Speaker 2: Everybody have a great weekend. Fiddy and Boone will talk to you Monday. I'll be off on Monday. It's a big youth.
00:41:36
Speaker 3: Soccerman tournament tournament or soccer.
00:41:39
Speaker 2: Tournament weekend, so y'all will being capable hands on Monday. Colin Hoggard, Charlotte Sports Today. Coming up next, Love me up, let me find Richie.
00:41:48
Speaker 4: The percentages are like me on a dating apswiping right, that's how woe it is.
00:41:53
Speaker 3: At eight percent ladies and gentlemen the weekend

00:32:47

00:33:50

And I just asked the question, what would have happened if we had if they could have got along better, and Smitty was on the twenty fifteen team. Multiple people said unbeaten super Bowl champ. Somebody said greatest team ever, and then you had this guy.
00:41:06
