00:00:45.280 --> 00:00:50.079
Hello and welcome back to Let's Run Facebook as a podcast myself, Nick Boddington.
00:00:50.079 --> 00:00:57.600
On this episode, I want to talk to you about the algorithm and how it finds your ideal customer.
00:00:57.960 --> 00:01:10.719
One of the questions I just get asked all the time by my community is, what do I mean when I say you're you need to call out in your creative to speak to your ideal customer.
00:01:10.719 --> 00:01:15.519
And people are just like, I don't know what you mean by calling out to our ideal customer.
00:01:16.239 --> 00:01:29.040
I. And I want to tell you of an example, when you record a video and upload it as an ad, as that when you go through the creative tries to wants to make you some statics.
00:01:29.400 --> 00:01:44.000
And the other day when I was doing this, I realized that what I'm saying in the video is being pulled through as the text overlay on the static, and it's really, really interesting. So why is this important?
00:01:44.079 --> 00:01:46.799
We don't do interest based targeting anymore.
00:01:46.799 --> 00:01:55.920
You know this we sit in our ads, we build creative, and we try to build creative that calls out to our customer.
00:01:55.920 --> 00:02:00.879
We don't go into ads manager into our assets and start choosing demographics.
00:02:01.000 --> 00:02:05.640
And we don't choose interest based on their shopping habits or their interest in jewelry.
00:02:05.719 --> 00:02:07.599
We don't do any of that.
00:02:05.719 --> 00:02:07.599
We go completely broad.
00:02:07.599 --> 00:02:08.360
You guys know this.
00:02:08.360 --> 00:02:11.360
We've been talking about this for years, right?
00:02:11.599 --> 00:02:14.639
the question I still get asked is, but how do we call out in our ads?
00:02:14.879 --> 00:02:22.360
You just need to call out to the ideal customer by saying things like this.
00:02:22.360 --> 00:02:27.800
So if I'm doing an advert it my adverts would start out like this.
00:02:27.879 --> 00:02:34.759
Are you a business spending more than 3000 a month on Facebook ads, but you know you should be getting a much better return.
00:02:35.000 --> 00:02:38.120
So I've immediately told meta something about the person on the reach.
00:02:38.120 --> 00:02:40.919
Their A business owner.
00:02:38.120 --> 00:02:40.919
They're already advertising on Facebook.
00:02:40.919 --> 00:02:45.400
They're spending at least three zero a month and they're unhappy with their return.
00:02:45.400 --> 00:02:55.919
Or I could say something like, have you gone through 2 or 3 Facebook ad agencies in the last year, spent thousands in management fees and still not got the results you expected?
00:02:56.080 --> 00:03:00.439
Again, think about everything I've just told meta about that customer, right?
00:03:00.439 --> 00:03:07.319
If you go into ads manager and I'm going to do this now while I'm on this call and I'm going to tell you basically what I'm doing.
00:03:07.400 --> 00:03:09.680
Hey, while I've got you, I just wanted to ask.
00:03:09.680 --> 00:03:14.000
Would you like me to go into your ads manager and actually see what's working?
00:03:14.159 --> 00:03:17.319
Because I bet your ads aren't broken and I bet we can fix something.
00:03:17.319 --> 00:03:20.400
There's a reason our top clients stop guessing and start scaling.
00:03:20.400 --> 00:03:27.639
So if you've got campaigns that are burning cash, or you're having trouble barely even breaking even on them, let's have a look and let's see what we can fix.
00:03:27.639 --> 00:03:31.560
100% no fluff, no sales pitch, just a pro-level ad review.

00:03:37.919 --> 00:03:41.400
Go to the Ads Clinic icon and book your call today.
00:03:41.439 --> 00:03:45.879
Do it now before you forget, but make sure you come back to listen to the rest of the podcast.
00:03:45.879 --> 00:03:54.000
Enjoy! gone into ads manager and I have uploaded one of my videos, and that video actually starts with, are you a business?
00:03:54.000 --> 00:04:00.000
Spending more than 3000 a month on Facebook has, but you know you should be getting a better return, I hope.
00:04:00.000 --> 00:04:12.599
Load it now when I've now it's loaded up, I click next and it goes through to my text page where I can put my copy in, and then I click next again and it starts the AI generation, which creates statics, not videos.
00:04:12.599 --> 00:04:15.439
It does make videos, but the videos just look horrendous of me.
00:04:15.439 --> 00:04:17.160
Like changes my whole face.
00:04:17.160 --> 00:04:18.879
This is the statics.
00:04:18.879 --> 00:04:28.680
Takes a little bit of a while to load up, but as it's as it's doing it, it's basically listening to what's in the video and reading what it sees in the video.
00:04:28.720 --> 00:04:37.240
Okay, it sees me just walking in the countryside holding a microphone to my, you know, little microphone thing to my face, but it can't see any text.
00:04:37.240 --> 00:04:40.000
It's listening to the text.
00:04:37.240 --> 00:04:40.000
Now here we go.
00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:43.800
It's just come through with its examples.
00:04:44.160 --> 00:04:58.399
And now I'm starting to see examples on the page where it's saying things like ion agency that spent thousands on Facebook ads, are you spending 3000 a month on Facebook ads and need help fixing?
00:04:58.399 --> 00:05:06.399
It's got another one here which says I fix meta adds another one here, says I fix Facebook ads, another one here that says don't use an agency.
00:05:06.439 --> 00:05:09.199
Now these are as I'm describing, these these are all mixes.
00:05:09.199 --> 00:05:13.839
And it's trying to lay this out with the headline and some subtext and a little CTA at the bottom.
00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:21.360
But the moral of the story here is that it's it's listening to what I've said on that video. Right.
00:05:21.480 --> 00:05:24.480
And that's the really interesting part here.
00:05:24.560 --> 00:05:34.560
If Meta's AI can listen to my video and understand the context of what I'm saying and then turn that into an entirely different creative, then meta understands the content of my video.
00:05:34.560 --> 00:05:39.959
It's not just seeing me talking to camera, it's understanding that I'm talking about Facebook advertising.
00:05:39.959 --> 00:05:45.040
It's understanding that I'm talking about business is already spending money on Facebook ads.
00:05:45.079 --> 00:05:48.079
It's understanding that I'm talking about poor return on investment.
00:05:48.120 --> 00:05:58.000
So understanding that I'm talking about businesses that have potentially bad experiences with agencies, and all of those are signals on who might add is relevant to.
00:05:58.160 --> 00:06:03.480
And that's why what you're saying in your ads matters so much in the old.
00:06:03.480 --> 00:06:08.519
So in the old way light years ago now it sounds like it is, but it is kind of like years ago.
00:06:08.759 --> 00:06:13.639
We'd be going into, we'd be having to think about and we did this as an agency.
00:06:13.680 --> 00:06:17.639
We'd sit down with our client and we'd go, right, what interest can we target?
00:06:17.680 --> 00:06:20.120
What the job titles, what behaviors?
00:06:20.120 --> 00:06:27.959
For social media, I'd say, can I get in front of the Facebook page admins target people interested in Facebook advertising?
00:06:28.000 --> 00:06:29.800
Would we build a lookalike?
00:06:29.800 --> 00:06:31.959
But today we're asking the different question, right?
00:06:31.959 --> 00:06:36.319
It's how can I make an incredibly obvious sorry.
00:06:36.360 --> 00:06:41.560
How can I make it incredibly obvious to meta who this creative is for?
00:06:41.920 --> 00:06:47.120
And that's where you're messaging and what you're saying comes in, right?
00:06:47.240 --> 00:06:54.120
for things that you're creative should communicate, I want the creative to communicate for things who they are.
00:06:54.439 --> 00:06:55.920
So mine was.
00:06:55.920 --> 00:06:59.000
Are you a business owner spending more than 3000 a month on Facebook ads?
00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:00.839
That's the call out.
00:07:00.839 --> 00:07:01.680
What's the problem?
00:07:01.680 --> 00:07:03.680
They have you're generating leads.
00:07:03.680 --> 00:07:06.040
Remember saying, yeah, you're just describing it.
00:07:06.040 --> 00:07:11.680
You're generating leads, but the cost keeps increasing and the return isn't where it needs to be.
00:07:11.920 --> 00:07:13.279
That's their pain point.
00:07:13.279 --> 00:07:14.959
What they've already experienced.
00:07:14.959 --> 00:07:21.800
You've tried different agencies, changed campaigns, tested, tested different audiences, and you're still not getting consistent results.
00:07:22.000 --> 00:07:25.319
Now we're describing their current reality.
00:07:25.600 --> 00:07:27.639
And then we need to talk about what they want.
00:07:27.639 --> 00:07:30.639
So something like You don't necessarily want to spend less.
00:07:30.680 --> 00:07:36.879
You want to know that when you put money into meta, you're getting a predictable return back, okay?
00:07:36.879 --> 00:07:37.839
And that's their desire.
00:07:37.839 --> 00:07:43.879
So think about how much information we've just given and they'll think, that's me.
00:07:43.879 --> 00:07:45.360
That's what we want this person to think.
00:07:45.360 --> 00:07:54.399
The right person who's seeing that ad, reading the captions, listening to the listen to the audio, they're going to think that's me.
00:07:55.079 --> 00:07:58.959
And don't think that this applies to what you physically say.
00:07:59.519 --> 00:08:03.720
Think about all the information that we're given to meta to get the creative.
00:08:04.160 --> 00:08:16.480
You've got words saying primary text, the your headline, the captions, the text overlaid on your video, the imagery and the people or products appearing in the creative the landing page is sending people to.
00:08:16.839 --> 00:08:24.319
All of this just gives meta context around what your what your ad is about and who is likely to respond to it.
00:08:24.360 --> 00:08:33.639
So instead of obsessing over whether you should target 15 different interests or start obsessed over whether your creative makes it absolutely obvious who they're trying to reach.
00:08:33.960 --> 00:08:43.919
So let's imagine, I want a business that is already spending serious money on Facebook, as I don't want someone who's thinking about spending 10 pounds on their first campaign.
00:08:43.919 --> 00:08:51.000
So I want to I shouldn't create an advert that says one better results from Facebook ads.
00:08:48.279 --> 00:08:51.000
And that's incredibly broad, right?
00:08:51.000 --> 00:08:53.320
So I would probably use that for my free school.
00:08:53.320 --> 00:08:58.279
One better results from Facebook ads, because I just want people to come in who are looking for better results.
00:08:58.279 --> 00:09:07.720
But if I'm going to do it from a point of view of trying to get high ticket for our 1 to 1 services, I want to talk to businesses who are spending more.
00:09:07.799 --> 00:09:15.519
So that would say something along the lines of are you already spending 3500 or even 10,000 a month on meta ads?
00:09:15.639 --> 00:09:20.519
But you're frustrated because your return hasn't improved as you've increased budget.
00:09:20.679 --> 00:09:25.759
Now we've got specificity specific now, specifically the word.
00:09:25.799 --> 00:09:27.559
Now we're being specific.
00:09:27.559 --> 00:09:31.799
I've described the person, I've described the situation and I've described their problem.
00:09:32.000 --> 00:09:35.919
So I've told meta exactly who I'm looking for.
00:09:36.320 --> 00:09:40.399
Another example could be for when I'm trying to get to an agency.
00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:50.399
Sorry, someone who's used an agency, I could say instead of saying looking for help with your Facebook ads, because again, that's really broad.
00:09:50.519 --> 00:10:00.879
I would say if you've hired 2 or 3 Facebook ad agencies over the last 12 months, paid thousands in management fees, and you're still getting there and you're still sitting there.
00:10:00.919 --> 00:10:03.919
Wondering why your ads aren't profitable.
00:10:04.039 --> 00:10:05.440
I want to show you something.
00:10:05.440 --> 00:10:07.200
So that one there is completely different.
00:10:07.200 --> 00:10:11.879
And I'm calling out to Facebook people who've used 2 or 3 Facebook ad agencies.
00:10:12.120 --> 00:10:17.919
And I know that works because I have so many people coming into our business who have used 2 or 3 Facebook ad agencies.
00:10:18.000 --> 00:10:21.919
the right business owner immediately recognizes themselves in that messaging.
00:10:22.159 --> 00:10:27.360
And then meta has far more context about the ad and who it's relevant to.
00:10:27.600 --> 00:10:31.840
So that's essentially what you need to do with your own ads.
00:10:31.879 --> 00:10:38.200
I want you to think about and write out exactly who your ideal prospect is.
00:10:38.279 --> 00:10:43.519
Not broad, exactly who it is, and then just read it out, okay?
00:10:43.639 --> 00:10:52.600
And just keep repeating those hooks over and over and over again so that if it was like an elevator pitch, you would know exactly who you're speaking to.
00:10:52.600 --> 00:10:57.000
Then pick up your phone, go for a walk, hold it up, get one of those little microphones.
00:10:57.000 --> 00:11:03.120
I'll just plug it into the bottom of my iPhone and then hold the microphone and just speak, write, test.
00:11:03.360 --> 00:11:04.759
See how those ads run.
00:11:04.759 --> 00:11:05.840
Simplify it.
00:11:05.840 --> 00:11:13.600
Call out better and you'll just get better and better at calling out to your ideal customer for them to come in through your ads.
00:11:13.639 --> 00:11:18.600
And then yeah, if you want to use the meta AI, which I did, actually, I created my statics from it.
00:11:18.600 --> 00:11:20.320
I had some that looked pretty good.
00:11:20.320 --> 00:11:22.360
Use it and go with it.
00:11:22.360 --> 00:11:23.840
I hope that helps.
00:11:23.840 --> 00:11:34.360
I hope that clears up how we're getting around or explaining who you're speaking to in your ads and calling out, and that's all we need to do.
00:11:34.399 --> 00:11:37.360
Just keep calling out to your ideal customer.
00:11:37.360 --> 00:11:38.919
Hope that helps and see you in the next one.
00:11:41.039 --> 00:11:42.559
Thank you for joining us again today.
00:11:42.559 --> 00:11:44.480
