00:00:32.170 --> 00:00:34.250
Hello and welcome back.
00:00:34.409 --> 00:00:38.570
So today's episode is all about obsession.
00:00:39.210 --> 00:00:40.890
And I don't mean the curfew.
00:00:41.369 --> 00:01:12.890
Um, so I've been having conversations with people recently, and I'm gonna get a bit on my soapbox this week because I've been asking people for help with what it is that stops them from moving, and the thing that keeps coming up is oh well, I was only walking or I find it really hard to do my ten thousand steps a day.
00:01:17.049 --> 00:01:20.329
Okay, I'm gonna stop you there.
00:01:23.129 --> 00:01:30.969
One walking is movement, and two, ten thousand steps a day was a made-up figure.
00:01:31.929 --> 00:02:02.569
Um years ago, years and years ago, the government, the health industry was trying to get people moving, and they would tell you to walk daily, get your steps in, and they kind of put an arbitrary figure on it because if they didn't give you some sort of guidance, you wouldn't know what to aim for, you wouldn't know whether you'd done enough.
00:02:03.209 --> 00:02:12.090
So they plucked this almost pie in the sky number of 10,000, and now everyone is obsessing about doing 10,000 steps a day.
00:02:12.569 --> 00:02:27.289
Literally obsessing, to the point that I know people that are going on like ridiculous walks at the end of the day, like before they go to bed and things to get their 10,000 steps in, or they're doing ridiculous loops around their house to get their 10,000 steps in.
00:02:27.530 --> 00:02:38.570
Stop! If you have moved, I mean you've probably walked down your stairs when you first get up in the morning, so there's your steps, do a few flights of stairs a day, there's your steps.
00:02:45.210 --> 00:02:47.210
You just gotta move your butt.
00:02:47.689 --> 00:02:59.130
Okay, so and one woman was quite surprised when I said to her, she was like, Oh, I'm walking daily, but it wasn't enough, and I was like, says who?
00:03:01.050 --> 00:03:02.170
And she was like, What do you mean?
00:03:02.250 --> 00:03:08.890
I said, You're going for a walk every day, so you're moving your body.
00:03:09.610 --> 00:03:11.450
Who says that's not enough?
00:03:13.370 --> 00:03:28.250
So my new obsession is unwiring everyone's thoughts that simple things aren't enough because they really are, and movement is really simple.
00:03:29.370 --> 00:03:44.250
Unfortunately, the health industry has over-complicated it and made you think that movement has to be a big complicated exercise class, or it has to be a gym workout, or insert whatever, and it really doesn't.
00:03:44.409 --> 00:03:50.490
It can be, and I'm gonna die on this hill.
00:03:50.570 --> 00:03:52.090
I'm gonna keep repeating it.
00:03:52.170 --> 00:03:54.409
It is the soapbox I will die on.
00:03:55.930 --> 00:04:04.409
Movement can literally be stick your favourite song on and have a little kitchen boogie doing the gwashing up.
00:04:04.570 --> 00:04:05.850
That's movement.
00:04:09.130 --> 00:04:23.610
Walking is movement, parking further away from the door at the supermarket, so that you've got a bit of a longer walk into the supermarket, if that is your only time of really doing anything, it's movement.
00:04:25.529 --> 00:04:34.490
So, please, for the love of all that's scrap this 10,000 nonsense out of your head.
00:04:35.850 --> 00:04:41.129
Stop thinking that everything has to be complicated because I'm telling you, it really doesn't.
00:04:41.449 --> 00:04:42.889
It really doesn't.
00:04:43.209 --> 00:04:59.289
My only movement, apart from walking in and out of the warehouse, realistically, is my boogies in the kitchen doing my washing up, which I am going to be sharing more of those and not just keeping them to myself, is going to poll every week.
00:05:02.009 --> 00:05:17.609
Poll for me was a new way of getting fitter because for me, having the dance and exercise instructor background that I do, typical classes weren't challenging me enough.
00:05:17.689 --> 00:05:18.729
I was bored.
00:05:19.689 --> 00:05:28.329
I wasn't making friends, I just wasn't bothered in going, so I set myself a new challenge, and I'd always wanted to go to poll.
00:05:28.409 --> 00:05:36.250
It looked, it looked really pretty, and yes, it does come from the sex work industry, but I wasn't doing it for that.
00:05:38.250 --> 00:05:48.810
But what it has given me once I got over the bunny hops, which it did take a little while, there's a whole mind thing that goes on with going, hang a minute, I've got to get my whole body on this poll, really.
00:05:49.449 --> 00:05:51.370
But it's built my confidence.
00:05:51.609 --> 00:06:01.689
Like, I first started in Vest Tops and Shorts, I'm now in Crop Tops and Shorts, and yes, I'm sharing those videos online every week.
00:06:01.930 --> 00:06:04.969
Stomach out, boobs out, bum out, the works.
00:06:07.449 --> 00:06:10.250
Because I've built my confidence, I'm building my strength.
00:06:10.409 --> 00:06:15.209
Like, if you're watching the um the video version of this, you can see the muscle tone.
00:06:15.370 --> 00:06:18.169
I won't show you the bruises, the bruises are quite horrific.
00:06:18.409 --> 00:06:22.649
Um, I bruise like a peach anyway, but oh my god, I bruise like a peach from pole.
00:06:23.129 --> 00:06:29.689
Um, we've actually joked that my other half needs photos of me before and after, uh, because the colour.
00:06:29.769 --> 00:06:32.250
So mine go quite purple quite quick.
00:06:32.490 --> 00:06:38.169
Um, if you didn't know otherwise, you would think I was getting attacked.
00:06:38.729 --> 00:06:41.449
Um, and I'm not joking about that.
00:06:41.609 --> 00:06:53.529
Absolutely, I know that there are people out there who are in those sorts of situations, however, they are they are quite funny sometimes when you look at these brews, it's like that's not normal.
00:06:53.689 --> 00:06:57.930
And no, it's not normal, but that's just how my body is and has always been.
00:06:58.089 --> 00:07:02.569
Um, but my point is, in some ways, that's my only movement.
00:07:04.169 --> 00:07:05.609
Trying to get on a pole.
00:07:06.169 --> 00:07:17.449
Um, so I want you to become obsessed with making it easy because I'm obsessed with making it easy for you, because it really can be.
00:07:18.169 --> 00:07:33.849
And just to prove a point, I know I have moved around quite a bit today, kind of at the time of this recording, rather, um, because it was container loading day at the day job, it was only a 20-foot container, but I know I've been in and out of the warehouse today.
00:07:34.089 --> 00:07:37.849
Let's see how many steps I've done up to the point of this recording.
00:07:42.089 --> 00:07:44.409
3,433.
00:07:46.490 --> 00:07:51.049
So under our 10,000 steps a day, I haven't done enough.
00:07:51.930 --> 00:08:05.529
Hang on a minute, I've done 3,433 steps today from the moment I put my watch on my wrist at 7 o'clock this morning to the time of recording this 9.33 pm.
00:08:07.209 --> 00:08:09.289
I think you'll find I've moved.
00:08:10.329 --> 00:08:20.729
So we are ignoring arbitrary figures, they are a guidance just to get you bloody moving.
00:08:21.529 --> 00:08:26.089
It really does and really can be super, super simple.
00:08:27.049 --> 00:08:39.529
And I'm gonna keep sharing it, I'm gonna keep shouting it until you get it in your heads and stop obsessing and get obsessed with being easy.
00:08:40.570 --> 00:09:26.490
That movement is boogie during housework, it could literally be coming along to my movement sessions when I run them, responding in however feels good to you, whether that is actually, you know what, I'm gonna do a bit of a dance, more of a styled choreographed dance, and there's a reason I call it movement and not dance because dance has this, and I know it for me, dance has this kind of thinking of it's got to be perfect, it's got to be right, so people shy away from it, but call it movement, the expectation's gone, they just they just do.
00:09:26.730 --> 00:09:31.769
Like I've told you before, and if you haven't listened to my previous episodes, do go and listen to them.
00:09:32.009 --> 00:09:35.929
But I've had someone tell me that the movement sessions were a lifesaver.
00:09:36.329 --> 00:09:43.769
I've got someone who is a full-time carer who now has a boogie every day because she's rediscovered her love of music.
00:09:44.090 --> 00:09:50.490
Hello, full-time carer can fit time in to get movement in.
00:09:50.730 --> 00:09:53.210
She's not obsessing about 10,000 steps a day.
00:09:53.370 --> 00:09:55.850
She's put the music on, she's had a boogie.
00:09:56.409 --> 00:09:59.850
It really is that simple.
00:10:00.889 --> 00:10:02.970
It's as simple as it needs to be.
00:10:03.370 --> 00:10:06.730
So, I'm gonna love you and leave you for this week.
00:10:06.809 --> 00:10:08.409
We are all gonna get moving.
00:10:08.730 --> 00:10:12.409
We're gonna obsess about the easiness.
00:10:12.730 --> 00:10:13.049
Okay?
00:10:13.610 --> 00:10:16.250
In fact, I might have to get that on a branded t shirt.
00:10:16.490 --> 00:10:18.090
Obsess about the easiness.
00:10:18.970 --> 00:10:21.210
I'm obsessed about making it easy.
00:10:22.009 --> 00:10:26.490
So until next time, let's move.
00:00:32.170 --> 00:00:34.250
Hello and welcome back.
00:00:34.409 --> 00:00:38.570
