00:00:00.620 --> 00:00:03.490
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
00:00:03.490 --> 00:00:18.274
I attended my lovely friend Francesca Amber's goal-setting party a couple of days ago and I loved it.
00:00:18.274 --> 00:00:35.725
I love goal-setting, I love ideating, I love taking some time out for me to check in with myself or welcome myself back home to myself and start thinking, start reflecting, start doing some fun planning if that feels right and if that feels good.
00:00:35.725 --> 00:00:43.789
And I wanted to share with you something that came up during that goal setting party that I thought, oh, I've got to share this with my pod listeners.
00:00:43.789 --> 00:00:54.645
Francesca was talking about the concept of a fallow year.
00:00:54.645 --> 00:00:55.628
Does anyone know what a fallow year is?
00:00:55.628 --> 00:01:02.363
It was the first time I'd heard it, but I have to say I do love a nature metaphor for understanding life and the world.
00:01:02.363 --> 00:01:15.070
And a fallow year, from my understanding, is simply when in the farming community there is a field that skips a year of harvest.
00:01:15.070 --> 00:01:22.349
It just it skips a year in order to have, essentially, longer term, better productivity.
00:01:22.349 --> 00:01:28.689
So instead of completely milking the field year after year after year, expecting too much from it, we go.
00:01:28.689 --> 00:01:30.778
That field is taking a break.
00:01:30.778 --> 00:01:32.403
How about using the right language here Field?
00:01:32.403 --> 00:01:33.787
Is that the right word to use?
00:01:33.787 --> 00:01:53.712
I don't know, but instead of you know milking every single year and every season, cyclically, there are fields that farmers just give a rest to a whole year of rest so that the following year they will reap a bigger, better harvest.
00:01:54.959 --> 00:02:04.671
And what I noticed during that party was it seemed as if a lot of people, many of us, have experienced a fallow year in 2024.
00:02:04.671 --> 00:02:09.245
Of us have experienced a fallow year in 2024.
00:02:09.245 --> 00:02:12.252
Maybe we thought, oh, we entered the year with these huge plans but something went awry or we lost our motivation.
00:02:12.252 --> 00:02:21.417
Something happened and it was a quieter, less successful in air quotes year than we anticipated.
00:02:21.417 --> 00:02:28.432
We didn't have a huge revenue months, we didn't get engaged, we didn't move to an exciting new city or take a global trip.
00:02:28.432 --> 00:02:40.906
Maybe it was a year of caretaking, maybe it was a year of divorce, maybe it was a year of illness, maybe it was just a year where it felt like nothing happened.
00:02:40.906 --> 00:02:50.100
It was this fallow year, almost a year that skipped, a year that you don't have a whole long list of achievements, or accomplishments that the outside world will say, hey, you need that.
00:02:53.387 --> 00:03:04.473
And my friends, I wanted to pass this message on of the fallow year as being a season to respect right, not every year is going to be hyper go, go, go.
00:03:04.473 --> 00:03:09.711
It's not sustainable in nature and in your life it is not sustainable.
00:03:09.711 --> 00:03:17.490
There are years that skip, there are years where there is no harvest, there are years where we just rest, we just let it be.
00:03:17.490 --> 00:03:29.134
Maybe that'll be 2025 for us, maybe we don't know yet, but if 2024 has seemed like this fallow year to you, can you just respect it?
00:03:29.134 --> 00:03:33.751
Can you know that this is a season that was meant to be?
00:03:33.751 --> 00:03:38.951
Maybe it's setting you up for an even greater year, next year or even the following year?
00:03:38.951 --> 00:03:49.366
I'm purposely going to have a restful winter I wouldn't say a fallow winter, necessarily, but this is going to be a quieter season for me.
00:03:50.269 --> 00:03:57.260
I'm working on my next book, and anyone who's written a book knows that you put a lot of work in to something and you don't see the rewards right away.
00:03:57.260 --> 00:04:11.472
Sometimes it's even two or three years away that you see people engaging engaging with your work, reading your stuff and you feeling the encouragement and the gratitude of that Fellow years, my friends, matter.
00:04:11.472 --> 00:04:19.113
They're important, they're part of the larger tapestry of our lives, they make sense and they are appropriate.
00:04:19.113 --> 00:04:26.413
So if that was you, oh, I wonder what wonderful things are in store for you in the new year.
00:04:26.413 --> 00:04:35.389
If you're feeling like maybe the coming year needs to be a more restful one, you can also love and appreciate that.
00:04:37.500 --> 00:04:48.040
Sending you so much love today and always, my friends, and a very, very, very happy new year to you, my friends, and a very, very, very happy new year to you.
00:04:48.040 --> 00:04:54.641
Until tomorrow, my friends.
00:04:54.641 --> 00:04:55.103
So much love and ease.
