Speaker 1: Good morning. We are out of the gates and ready to go on a Wednesday morning. Hope everyone's having a great start to your day right now. I am Chad Withrow. It is the Hutton and Withrow Show, normally. Today, it is the Chad Withrow Show, which is fine because I got a lot on my mind. I've got a lot to get to this morning. If you're watching this on YouTube, we say good morning. We're on podcast. We are everywhere that we can be found, whether it be audio, video. Make sure you're checking us out. We're also on the Daily Wires. homepage. We've got our own vertical there as well. So we are filling in all the blanks of where you can consume this show. And we appreciate you being here. I got asked a question the other night at the softball field from someone who is a big fan of Clay Travis, a big fan of our show. And they asked the question, what is Sporting State? Is it Outkick 2.0? Is it just another version of that? Is it something totally different? And I think the best descriptor that I have for sport and state right now, and I think Clay might agree, maybe not. I'm sure he would say it way more eloquently than I will. But sport and state is what Outkick was in the beginning when Clay launched it in 2011. It's way closer to that. It's a little bit more fun loving. It's a little bit more Southern. It's way more sports focused on what we're talking about. Now, what we're also willing to do at sport and state is is give you the contrary opinion to what you might normally see across sports media. And here is what we're normally seeing in sports media in regards to the latest story involving Arch Manning and Manning and Holly Rowe. So if you don't know all the background of this, over the weekend, Steve Sarkeesian, if we're going to point fingers at who started it, Steve Sarkeesian started it on Saturday night. He got pissy at halftime because ESPN had technical difficulties. and he left the halftime interview. Laura Rutledge explained it and said, hey, if anybody's owed an apology, it's Coach Sark because he had to wait on us, and eventually he decided to leave. So that happens. Then postgame, there's something going on with him and Holly Rowe. Holly Rowe looks down at the mic for a second, and then Steve Sarkeesian gives the hook-em sign and takes off running, and Holly Rowe goes pouting and storming off like a 13-year-old, what it looked like to me. That was scorned by her middle school boyfriend. That's the way Holly Rowe reacted to it. I don't think either one of them handled it well, but way more blame goes to Steve Sarkeesian in that moment than it does Holly Rowe. So the media jumps in. I jump in. I say, hey, look, Steve Sarkeesian looks like a jerk in this whole situation, which he did for what he was doing. There's no excuse not to just be a decent human and stand there for one minute maybe and celebrate your team's success and sell the Texas Longhorns to To America that's watching that game at that point. I don't know why he felt the need to do that. It was ridiculous. It was childish. It was this and that. If anyone owed anybody an apology at that point, to me, and I'm not a big forced apology person. Let me reframe that. I'm not a forced apology person at all. If you truly mean it, then you can apologize publicly to someone. If you truly owe that person an apology, you can do it. If I had to pick someone in this story that owed an apology, it was Steve Sarkeesian in that moment. Hey, Holly. Sorry. Hey, ESPN, television partner that pays $ 3 billion to my conference and helps pay my salary. I'm sorry. Shouldn't have acted like that. Should have just stood there and been a professional and taken the questions and gotten out of there within a minute. Wouldn't have been difficult at all, especially after an emotional win like that where you get a chance to celebrate on national TV. But instead, he acted that way, and he ran off. I think Steve Sarkeesian owed the apology at that point, okay? The person who does not owe anyone apology is Arch Manning. Arch Manning, during a press conference, laughs at a stupid AI-generated video of his coach slapping Holly Roe, okay? Was the video funny? I didn't find it very funny. Was I overly offended by it, knowing it's just a dumb AI edit? No, I wasn't overly offended about it. There's way more offensive things happening in sports and with violence towards women than what was on that video and a 22-year-old Arch Manning laughing at what was on that video. Way more things to get upset about than that. But Arch Manning decided, hey, it's time to apologize. Here is his apology. He says, in my press conference yesterday, I made an insensitive comment about an AI video. There is nothing funny about it. It's easy to say I didn't mean it. but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly, and I'm deeply sorry for that. I specifically want to apologize to Holly Rowe for what she has personally had to deal with because of my comments. I have a ton of respect for her and appreciate her showing me grace in this moment. I need to do better and will be more thoughtful going forward. Okay, first off, I don't know what Holly Rowe is having to deal with, okay? I'm online, too. I get a lot of mean things said to me every single day. hosting a show like this. Everybody who's online and in the public eye in any way, shape, or form is going to have mean things said to them on Twitter and online. What I've seen in defense of Holly Roe, to me, from reputable journalists like Nicole Auerbach or whoever it may be, in support of Holly Roe, starting with the Steve Sarkeesian moment, to me, greatly outweighs any hate she gets from faceless, nameless Twitter bots online. I think she's getting way more support than she is criticism over everything that's gone on, okay? But I don't know. I don't know what else she's gotten online or what else is happening. But Arch Manning is not the one bringing that on to Holly Rowe. Arch Manning's a good kid. He's from a great family. This is what the Manning family does. They take the high road, right? Outside of Peyton Manning calling Mike Vanderjagt a liquored-up kicker and going off on him right before he got cut for– complaining about Peyton's play one season, typically the Manning family eventually takes the high road. Part of their brand is class, right? So it doesn't really surprise me that that family would orchestrate some apology in some way, okay? And I don't want to rain on the apology. He probably means it, all of those things. He can do whatever he wants. But the fact that we are in a place right now in media where Arch Manning feels like he has to apologize. For being a 22-year-old kid who laughed at a dumb video, I don't think Arch Manning condones violence against women. I don't think any of that. Did I find the video funny? No, it wasn't that clever. Did I find that stupid golf ad that got canceled where the guy knocks over the woman who's about to use his driver funny? No, it was stupid. It was a bad decision. It was dumb. Do I think the company should cease to move forward because of a bad marketing decision? No, I don't. And I think the main thing that bothers me is what bothers Karen Krause at Sporting State, who wrote a great column either last night or this morning. I happened to read it this morning before the show, where she goes into the faux outrage of media members in regard to Holly Roe and Arch Manning and everything else. The same media members, Nicole Auerbach, whoever it may be, they're silent when a dude at the Olympics is punching a woman on television. Where a person that has male chromosomes... who was disqualified from previous events, and by the way, has not boxed since the Olympics. When that happens, and the woman that is beaten up in the ring is saying this isn't right and being forced to shake the hand of the guy that just punched her, where's Nicole Auerbach on that? And look, you don't have to comment on every issue out there, okay? I'm sure someone's going to tweet at me and say, well, you didn't comment on this or you didn't comment on that. It's a free country. You can be outraged by whatever you want to. That's the beauty of America, right? What insults you or offends you may not insult or offend me. And people certainly can go out of their way to be offended by anything. Hence, Arch Manning laughing at an AI-generated video. But if you're going to be about it, be about it. If you're going to be a staunch anti-violence against women person, then the same outrage you're showing towards Arch Manning, I want you to carry that same energy to Iman Khalif. I want you to carry that same energy to a male swimmer who beats Riley Gaines. I want you to carry that same energy to Josh Jacobs, to people who have committed actual acts of violence against women. And not some 22-year-old kid. I'm not going to say kid. 22-year-old man, a young man who laughs at an AI-generated video. Let's keep it consistent. Let's be about it all the time. Let's not jump on the publicity train. Because it suits you in that moment. And be outraged by something because the Texas quarterback laughed at it. Or the grown men in the room who laughed. By the way, the grown men in the room who laughed, they're all Texas sycophants more than likely, who laughed because Arch Manning said something and smiled. I doubt any of them even saw the video. Half of them probably don't even know how to work Twitter. That laughed in that room, okay? Save me your outrage when it comes to that. Arch Manning owes an apology to no one. He did it. It's fine. Everybody can move on. I don't see it. I don't see it. I think that if anybody owes an apology in this situation, it's Steve Sarkeesian. And I'm sure the Texas fans are going to say mean things to me over this because I'm daring that their coach should have to apologize for anything. But he should. If anyone's going to apologize, it's him. Hey, we've got a great show for you coming your way this morning. When we come back, college game day. Is it on the decline because they interviewed Ted Cruz for 10 minutes? in a one-on-one while the crowd chanted, Ted, you suck the entire time behind him? Is it on the decline because of too much Pat McAfee? I'll discuss when we come back. This is Hutton and Withrow's show on the Sporting State Network. We're back. So Awful Announcing wrote a big opinion piece on the possible demise of of ESPN's College Game Day. Now, the center of this is from an awful announcing team, which, let's face it, pretty left-leaning when it comes to, I would say that, but it's a lot like most media going, okay? I got no problem with awful announcing. I think a lot of stuff they do is really good. But a lot of times they write something, it is coded a bit in a left-leaning sentiment, okay? They're outraged. They're upset that College Game Day dared to have Senator Ted Cruz on their show from Austin this past weekend. All right, Ted Cruz is the head of the Protect College Sports Act. He is the one rallying different politicians to get this done. Part of the rallying team, the lobbyists to get this passed through Congress, is Nick Saban, who's on the set on College Game Day every single week. Does not surprise me that Ted Cruz... would be an invited guest and someone that's there to push this legislation to get some guardrails up for college football and college sports, okay? None of that really surprises me. Do I like it on college game day? No, I don't. I watched two minutes of the video and quite frankly, it looks like any interview with any politician, it's not interesting to me, okay? There's plenty of places you can go and get interviews with politicians and you're going to hear a lot of the same thing. They're going to talk about what their party wants them to talk about. They're going to talk about what they think their constituency wants them to talk about. And all of it, quite frankly, becomes increasingly boring to me when I watch it. Do I get offended that Ted Cruz came on? No. I saw Clay post that a year ago, they had the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, I think, on one of their shows also. And The same people who were mad weren't mad about that. Yeah, I get all that. We can play this game over and over. It's like shampoo. Let's rinse and repeat. You know, one side gets the spotlight and the other side's pissed off, and then one side gets the spotlight, and they're not mad when their side gets it. Or if it's, hey, let's keep politics out of sports, what you really mean is let's keep your politics out of sport. If my politics are in sports, it's fine, guys. You see why you want to have a senator on college game day? Let's do it. I thought Ted Cruz was fine. I think the Protect College Sports Act is fine. It's better than nothing. It's something that needs to be done to have some rules and regulations within college football, which I think everybody who follows the sport ultimately wants. Everybody who's in the sport wants a little bit more rules. People say college football is like the NFL. It's not. The NFL has rules. You can't bounce from one team to the next because you're under contract for multiple years. Coaches can't leave for one NFL job for another for more money because they're under contract. There are rules. College football needs the same. It is a huge business, much like the NFL. It's the second most popular sport in America. So let's have some rules. I'm with Ted Cruz on that. Am I with the editorial decision of ESPN to put Ted Cruz on college game day? No, I'm not. Is Pat McAfee overexposed? When I'm sitting there watching Pat McAfee, just happen to have my television on ESPN, on Monday night countdown before the Chiefs-Broncos game, and he is there eating food, eating Kansas City barbecue and talking three hours before kickoff, yeah, I think he's overexposed. Am I going to hate on Pat McAfee for that? Absolutely not. He's making a ton of money. He's very good at what he does. He's high energy. I like Pat McAfee. But is he overexposed?
00:14:53
Speaker 2: Sure.
00:14:53
Speaker 1: By definition, yeah. He's on that network far too much. Is he taking more of the spotlight away from college game day? I think anyone that has his personality and his energy is going to take some things away from the set at times because he is such a big energy guy. The focus will go to him when he talks. Do I think that's a negative for college game day? No, I don't. I think that Pat McAfee has been a positive for that broadcast. Nick Saban has been terrific. When Nick Saban talks football, it's terrific on that show. Kirk Herbstreit's always been good. Desmond Howard, he's fine. He's fine. Rhys Davis, I think Rhys Davis is really good at anchoring that show. Is College Game Day on the decline because they had Ted Cruz on their set? Hell no. It's not on the decline for that. Is it on the decline because they pander to Lane Kiffin because they share an agent? Is it on the decline because they too often blindly take the side of any coach, even when the coach is wrong? And they conveniently go after people that they don't have personal relationships with or that are at lesser, quote unquote, lesser programs. It's not a good look. If you wanted me, Chad Withrow, they come in and say, hey, you're going to be our media consultant analyst on this show. Give me the number one thing that harms the credibility of ESPN College Game Day. My number one thing would be you are in Lane Kiffin's lap. Or maybe it's the reverse. Maybe Lane Kiffin is in your lap. Whatever it is, there's too much lap-sitting. There's too much lap-dogging for Lane Kiffin and for the dumb stuff that he does. And any time Lane Kiffin, by the way, steps in it the way he did when he tried to bring in NFL players, and sorry, LSU fans, that's what they are. I don't give a damn if they played in one preseason game or they played seven years NFL. They went and signed NFL contracts and played in NFL preseason games. They're pros at that point. They're NFL players. When he steps in and decides to push that too far until his own school almost gets kicked out of the SEC, you know what the response is from College Game Day and most people who know Lane Kiffin? Guys, can we talk about football? Come on. It's time to get over this. Let's talk some ball. We're so ready for football. Kickoff is here. We don't have to talk politics anymore until Ted Cruz is media availed the next week. for college game day. Then let's get back to politics. But let's not talk about our buddy Lane, the guy that we pushed for Ole Miss to allow to coach last year. Speaking of Lane Kiffin, we're going to be in Oxford this weekend, Friday night, Funkies on the square, 7 to 8 p.m. Central time. Looking forward to it with a show around that huge matchup. I am not concerned one bit about security in Oxford, Mississippi. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and everyone else acting like they are going to play a game in Tehran This weekend, it's ridiculous. Stop it.
00:17:53
Speaker 2: Stop it.
00:17:55
Speaker 1: Everyone is far more concerned about going to Baton Rouge than they are Oxford, Mississippi. Look, I pray that I'm right here and there are not a bunch of issues around the stadium and all that. I think it's going to be just fine. Stop using rhetoric like the National Guard and all the security measures for Lane and everything else. Lane has invited every bit of heckling and booze and everything else he's going to get from Ole Miss. AD Keith Carter even said it. Hey, Lane was good here as a coach. Ole Miss people are never going to get over how he's tried to hurt us at every turn since he left. How he was trying to manipulate other coaches and players and everything else. They're not going to get over that fact. And you know what? I don't blame him. I don't blame him. So boo away, Ole Miss fans. We'll be in the stadium with you. Probably not booing, but we'll be right there beside you as we watch Ole Miss and LSU this weekend. Vandy fans, there's more fans next to you, shoulder to shoulder now at games, in large part because of Jared Curtis, the five-star freshman quarterback. We got Vanderbilt football news and so much more when we come back. This is the Hutton & Withrow Show presented by Hard Rock Bet. This advertisement is not a promise to make alone. I promise that the enthusiasm for Vanderbilt football coming off last year is at an all-time high, especially when you add in that they bring in five-star quarterback, number one quarterback in the country, Jared Curtis. That enthusiasm waned when you look back lackluster against the Austin Peay Governors in week one, and Blaise Berlowitz is the starter, and your own fan base is chanting for Jared Curtis to enter the game and be the starter. It really wanes when you get yourself in a dogfight with Delaware, where I think they're down at halftime or maybe up a field goal, but they end up winning by nine points against the Blue Hens of Delaware after Blaise Berlowitz starts. I'm locked into this chair. I'm miked in right now, all that. I would give a standing ovation if I could. I can't. But bravo. to Clark Lee and the Vanderbilt Commodores for doing what Vanderbilt fans and pretty much everyone else thought they should have done from the start of the season. Jared Curtis has been named the starter at Vanderbilt for their game against NC State on Saturday. It's a no-brainer. It brings excitement to your program. But more than that, you can't lie to players. They know what's going on. They see it every day in practice. I get all that. And if Blaise Berlowitz was the better practice option at times, okay. I'm willing to hear that argument. We've seen two games now. And Jared Curtis had some pretty good stats and looked pretty good when he played against Delaware. It's time to go. It's time to give the ball to your five-star workhorse guy who should be an NFL quarterback one day and let him lead your team. No better time to start than now. No better time to start than against NC State this weekend, where Vanderbilt's only a three-and-a-half point favorite. If you had told me in week one when NC State looked terrible against Virginia And got blown out of that game. That wasn't week one. That was week zero. The first week of the season. If you'd have told me then that three weeks from then, Vanderbilt would only be a three and a half point favorite over NC State at home, I thought you were crazy. Because I thought Jared Curtis would have been starting and looking good the first couple of weeks. I thought Vandy would manhandle Austin Peay in Delaware. None of those things happened. And now Vandy Sitz is about a field goal favorite, according to Hard Rock Bet, at home against NC State. Which is a bit surprising to me. But... With Jared Curtis now the guy, Vanderbilt fans have a reason to get excited, and I think more people have a reason now to watch that game with Vandy and NC State on Saturday. So that is definitely one to watch. Another one to watch is our guy Danny Cannell, and I love Danny. Danny makes no apologies about it like Arch Manning did. He's not apologizing for any of this. He is a known SEC Big Ten hater. He is an anti-authority, don't tell me what most national analysts say type guy. He is the type of guy who will prop up the ACC even when there's no way to prop them up. He is a Florida State guy through and through, and he releases a top 12 in college football every week. His latest top 12 caught the attention of JT, our producer, who sent it to us. Okay, number one, Texas. All right, yeah, that sounds right. Texas, the big win over Ohio State, sure. LSU, number two, sure. Beat the hell out. Out of Clemson in week one. Makes sense. Ole Miss, three. Okay, got it. Big win over Louisville. I see that. Notre Dame, four. Big win over Wisconsin week one. Sure, very talented. Miami, five. They have killed everybody they've played. They haven't played anybody. By the way, is Miami going to play a game on a Saturday this year? Every game's been on Thursday or Friday night so far. They're like the Maction of the ACC. Hopefully a Saturday game is coming up soon. Michigan, number six. Don't get it. Don't get it. Because just like You have to weigh the big win over Oklahoma. You got to weigh the fact that they lost in regulation against Western Michigan. I don't think they're the number six team in the country. So disagree with that. Duke number seven. Okay. Duke beat Tulane in Illinois. I got to say, of all of the takes on this, not the worst one. Duke does have two solid wins where most teams in America have beaten two nobodies or two FCS teams or something equivalent to two FCS teams. So I don't hate Duke in his top 10, but of course also, again, ACC homer, Danny Connell throwing this out there. Number eight, Tennessee. I got no complaints about that. I think Tennessee's like 14th in the coaches poll, not too far away from that. Probably higher, they should be higher than where they started the season. I don't know if they're top 10, but they did look good against Georgia Tech and in their opener against Furman. Number nine, Texas A & M. Nice win over Arizona State. I understand that. Alabama went on the road in the SEC. Handled Kentucky in the second half. That was a game for one half. Blew out the Cats in the second half. I'm fine with that. Mississippi State 11. Now, be still my heart on this one because I am big hell state right now. Mississippi State, I said before, they have a chance to be the Oklahoma of this year. The surprise SEC team that sneaks their way into the playoffs. Kamario Taylor is a dude. If he's not a Heisman contender this year, he will be at some point at Mississippi State. So I like that. SMU number 12. Now, here's where you start to lose me, Danny. Going to Florida State and winning is not a great win anymore. It was when you were playing there, when Bobby Bowden was coaching there, when Jimbo Fisher was coaching there. By the way, there are reports that Mike Norvell is about to get fired and Jimbo Fisher is coming back. That's who Florida State fans want. They want to bring back Jimbo to coach Florida State. Not the worst idea of a retread coach I've heard. If Rich Rod can go back home to West Virginia... then why not Jimbo Fisher to Florida State? But I apologize to our friend Danny Connell when I say this. It's a day full of apologies here in the sports world. Going to Tallahassee and winning a game is only difficult because your stadium is so inept they can't keep the lights on. That's what made that game difficult for SMU. It's nothing that Florida State did. Your terrible program had a power outage during the game. That's what made the circumstances difficult. There's nothing about Doak Walker Stadium that's tough anymore. Why? Because Mike Norvell is running that program into the ground. We've seen it the last couple of years, and we've seen it to start this year also. So I'm sorry, but I'm not giving SMU top 10 or top 12 level credit for doing something like that. Here's another point that I want to make, and that Danny omitted from his list of top teams. If Texas is the number one team in the country after beating Ohio State, Ohio State is absolutely no worse than fourth or fifth after going to Austin and beating them for three quarters. I mean, let's face it. They dominated that football game for most of it. Now, do you get some sort of medal for dominating a game and not winning on the scoreboard?
00:27:05
Speaker 2: No, you don't.
00:27:06
Speaker 1: But if we are going to properly evaluate college football teams, you've got to factor that in. I also don't want to discourage Ohio State and Texas from playing each other. We need more games like this and not less. So if you're going to schedule a game like this and you're going to play it tough and you're going to lose late on the road to a team that's now number one in the country, you shouldn't get dinged for that. I mean, you get dinged maybe a spot, but if they would have come back and said this week, you know what, Texas won, or Danny said this or anyone, Texas won Ohio State too. I have no problem with that. Stop looking at just the number on the right column if you're looking at them and seeing zero or one or two or whatever it is, and look at the teams. Not every loss is created equally. Not every win is created equally. How do we feel about Michigan after the Western Michigan debacle? Does that feel like a win? Do you feel like the Wolverines are really starting something there this season? Do you feel good about that? Or did you ding them for that win? The same goes for losses. I'm not going to ding Ohio State. They look really good. They looked as powerful as I thought they were coming into the season. Julian Sane was good on the road. Yeah, I'd be fine with Ohio State being the number two team in the country if they decided to go that way. So, yeah, that's the way I see it. Texas won. Good with it. Ohio State should be higher. Hey, let's take another break. When we come back, we've got some primary complaint headed your way. This is the Hunt and Withrow Show presented by Hard Rock Bet. We're back. Hutton & Withrow Show presented by Hard Rock Bet here on the Sporting State Network on this Wednesday morning. Hey, our fearless leader, Clay Travis. He started Clay Travis Law. That's why our fearless leader, Clay, started Clay Travis Law. He built a firm around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions, and push back when things don't add up. If you were wrong, they want to hear about it. Here's what they promise.
00:29:20
Speaker 2: Honesty.
00:29:21

Go to claytravislaw.com or call 877-222- 4444, that's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big or too small. it is a Wednesday and every Wednesday on the Hutton and Withrow show presented by Hard Rock Bet we complain with primary complaint and now is the time to do just that I'll begin and we got JT here too who's got a great complaint coming your way also my primary complaint this week is that my truck will never be cleaned Because I have children. And I came to this realization yesterday. My truck, by the way, smells like 15 pounds of wet grass. We had a softball practice recently. It started raining. And I cannot get the smell of mildew mixed with wet grass out of my truck. It's bothered my allergies. I've vacuumed it. I've done this and that. Take it to the car wash yesterday. Get it washed out. Vacuum it. Clean it. Wipe it down. Do all of that. I can still smell wet grass. There is food that is stuck in places and compartments in my truck I did not even know existed because my children eat full course Golden Corral meals in the backseat when we're headed to events, I feel like. We're halfway to a smorgasbord back there. Can't control it one bit, okay? Finally get one of the scent things for the truck smelling better, vacuumed out everything else. Well, I happened to have the hardcover top on the back of my truck bed that was up to try to wash out the back of my truck. Pulled all the objects out of the back of the truck. What I did not realize was that there was one lone red crayon that was in the truck. Okay? So as I'm cleaning everything out, I open the truck bed and I realize it looks like I've been hauling bodies somewhere because this one red crayon has made what appears to be a bloodstain. all over the back of my truck. I look like I've been doing some very nefarious things with my truck because this one crayon that was left there by one of my children, probably my youngest. Parents out there, dads, moms, I know you feel me on this. The understanding and realization that I am never going to have a clean vehicle until my kids are in college and out of the house, it hit me hard yesterday, and that is my primary complaint. JT. is on with us now. And JT, I know, always has a great to play. JT, I feel like you stockpile complaints throughout your week, and then you truly pick between the best ones.
00:32:03
Speaker 3: So I'm blessed to have a 10-year-old daughter and a two-year-old who will turn three in a couple of weeks. We have the option of putting those two birthday parties together and combining them together, right?
00:32:17
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:32:17
Speaker 2: And it's a good idea. It's also health.
00:32:19
Speaker 3: Like you try to celebrate Two girls, birthday parties, one wants something, you know, like the 10-year-old, the 3-year-old is still, you know, screaming baby shark.
00:32:26
Speaker 2: It's just miserable.
00:32:28
Speaker 3: But we do what we do, so we only have to clean the house once, have all the family over, and all those things. So we're blessed with these gifts. People bring stuff. First and foremost, this is not a primary complaint, but please don't buy a child a gift that has 75 pieces, a 3-year-old, that are all, you know, this big. It's just stuff scattered everywhere throughout the house. And I just pick stuff up and throw it in the trash, hoping she never, never, never sees it. But here's my primary complaint.
00:32:54
Speaker 1: Amen to that, by the way. Amen to that. Yes.
00:32:56
Speaker 3: It's not batteries that I'm showing up on the screen. It's not batteries. But do you know how damn difficult it is to open a package of anything like this?
00:33:06
Speaker 1: Period.
00:33:07
Speaker 3: I mean, you have to get scissors. The scissors have to be so sharp. Then you cut your hand open trying to get into this box. package of just plastic that's hard, sharp, and awful. Why are we taking things that just could be put in a box? Amazon sends everything to us in a box. Why does it have to be just vacuum sealed to the point that you have to get a damn chainsaw out to open these things? Why is it so difficult? And it doesn't matter. It's not just kid stuff, but that's what I thought about this weekend. But why are we still in 2026 having to package things that you can't open without a chainsaw?
00:33:45
Speaker 1: JT, and it's not just the physical opening. You can't even touch the packaging without cutting your hand. Even when you get it open, if you happen to make a mistake and just reach down and grab the packaging, you're going to slice your hand open like the worst paper cut you've ever received. The battery packages, all the kids' toys, I'm with you. I feel like we could use a lot of our resources as companies or as a country if we saved on the hard plastics That's these, these things are encased in and use that for something else. Like I don't need anything that difficult to open, right? Like if someone, if it's a theft issue, like if someone's going to steal it, they're going to steal it from your store, steal it somewhere and go home with their scissors and cut it open anyway. So it's like, they're breaking it open right in there. I don't get it. I don't like it. I've never liked it. I'm right there with you, man.
00:34:37
Speaker 2: Looking for a picture to try to explain this.
00:34:39
Speaker 3: I found there's now actually a device that's smart of somebody that sells a a piece of equipment to open these exact packages.
00:34:47
Speaker 2: So brilliant. I wish that would have been me 10 years ago.
00:34:50
Speaker 1: I got to ask, though, you two kids close to the same birthday, different ages. Do they split the theme down the middle? Do you alternate years as to the younger one or the older one picking the theme of the party? How do you manage this?
00:35:02
Speaker 3: No, we had the 10-year-old is into Avatar for whatever reason. By the way, I know you're a movie guy.
00:35:07
Speaker 2: It's awful. I don't know why anybody would waste three hours.
00:35:10
Speaker 1: And 15 minutes on that. Never watched it. I am a movie guy, but I'm also like, I'm not going to watch something I know I'm going to hate. And I take one look at the blue people in that movie and I think I'm going to hate this movie. And also I see that it's like three hours long. I've never seen one of the avatars. Right.
00:35:24
Speaker 2: So I'll tell you don't.
00:35:26
Speaker 3: But that was that was the 10 year old and the three year old really doesn't have an opinion.
00:35:30
Speaker 2: So I think we did baby shark stuff. She was thrilled. And it was that or Minnie Mouse or something. But, yeah, it's awful.
00:35:37
Speaker 3: I think last year we kind of did two different parties, and I was like, let's just get this knocked out in one day.
00:35:42
Speaker 1: So we did.
00:35:42
Speaker 3: The 10-year-old's not a fan of doing that, but she had a birthday party nonetheless.
00:35:46
Speaker 2: So thank you. But those are my primary complaints.
00:35:49
Speaker 1: Very good, JT. Very good. Yeah, I've got 11 and 7, and sadly they both have very strong opinions. So there's never any just going with the flow. There's always very contrary opinions and both very strong. Hey, we've got strong opinions on this show. Crockett Coffee's got some strong coffee, too. And they got some medium coffee. That's hardrock.bet.com. slash clay. Every Wednesday on this show, we go for the bundle, going for the bundle with our show parlay. So last week, we did a little bit differently. We all try to come up with our own three-leg parlay to present to you for the weekend. That has not been overly successful. Full transparency on this show, I want to be honest with you. We want to give you the goods. We want to help you win over the weekend, but we also want to say, hey, it's difficult for multiple three-leg parlays to hit. So We change course this week, and what we're doing instead is every member of the show, me, Hutt, our producer JT, is going to come up with something they feel really strongly about, and we're going to combine that into a Hutton and Withrow show, bet the bundle, three-leg parlay. So this week, we've got Hutton going with Saquon Barkley for an anytime touchdown. That's minus 125. Of course, the Eagles come to Nashville to take on the Titans. Given the Titans' run defense and basically every other facet of their football team that we saw on Sunday, I really like this bet for Saquon Barkley to reach the end zone at some point. I am going with Georgia. This may have changed this morning, but at Hard Rock Bet, I got them yesterday at minus 25.5 in Fayetteville against Arkansas this weekend. I think Georgia goes on the road and pounds Arkansas. Georgia, by the way, I know Texas beat Ohio State. I still feel really good about Georgia winning the SEC from what I've seen. Against two nobodies, but Gunnar Stockton and that veteran team look really good. And that was my preseason pick to win the SEC. They're going to go to Arkansas and handle business. And JT, with Jared Curtis starting, you got Vandy minus three and a half over NC State.
00:40:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's, look, there's a lot of, you know, you guys were there late a couple of weeks ago meeting with coach.
00:40:16
Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of expectations there.
00:40:18
Speaker 3: And some eyebrows that were raised a couple of weeks ago when he wasn't named the starter.
00:40:24
Speaker 2: Look, man, Vandy's at home. They're in the SEC.
00:40:27
Speaker 3: They've got, you know, I think an exceptional quarterback that's going to finally get his chance to shine. They got to do more than a field goal to win at home over NC State. I think that Vandy really has a good chance and should cover here.
00:40:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you. I think this is sort of Vandy's coming out party this year of a good performance. I will say like, I don't think Vandy is going to be as good as I thought they were coming into the season. There is going to be a drop off this year from what I've seen, even defensively in their first two games. I think that's fair to say. I mean, we're look two games into the season when you only get 12 of them, right? You're a sixth of the way through the season at that point. So we've seen some football already from these teams. Now they haven't gotten to the meat of their schedule. They're not even in conference play yet, but I feel like I know a little bit about this Vandy team now through these two weeks. They come out of their shell a little bit with Jared Curtis. They're going to look better. I'm riding you. I like that bet. They're going to win by more than a field goal. I also think it's safe to say Vandy maybe is a step back from what they were a year ago with Diego Pavia. I think all things are true. So again, let's flash that. Betting the bundle. Three-leg parlay for this week. JT's going with Vandy minus three and a half at home over NC State. I'm going Georgia- to blow the doors off of Arkansas. It's minus 25 and a half. I think Georgia wins. I would tease this thing up. I think they win by more than 30 points. If you want to go that way, you can, but I'm going minus 25 and a half Hutton going Saquon Barkley, anytime touchdown at minus one 25. That is our hard rock bet, betting the bundle pick for the Hutton and Withrow show. And again, thrilled to partner with hard rock bet throughout the football season. And they're going to bring us all the odds, lines, insights, analysis, great content with Hard Rock Bet all season long. Football season is here. And if you take any lesson from today's show, from going back to our first segment of the show today, it is this. Don't apologize. Don't do it. Things will blow over. If Steve Sarkeesian is allowed to not apologize to Holly Rowe and ESPN, the millionaire coach of Texas... who look like a jerk on national TV, Arch Manning, you shouldn't apologize either. Don't do it. Let it blow over. Move on. And we are moving on to tomorrow's show on Thursday. Thanks for watching Wednesday's show, everyone. We are back at it bright and early tomorrow morning. This is the Hutton & Withrow Show presented by Hard Rock Bet. And you are watching the Sporting State Network. And stay tuned. Next round live, live from Birmingham, Alabama, is coming up next.
