Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver Michael Bumpus. Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, Nassau Chobie. Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk. We are back short week as the Seahawks head to Mile High to take on the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. Fresh off an unfortunate loss to those San Francisco 49ers.
00:00:22
Speaker 2: Those dang Niners.
00:00:25
Speaker 1: Oh, my board review again. It was rough, man. I'm not going to lie to you. That was a hard loss in Lumen Field. The first home loss in Lumen Field since October 5th of 2025 against the Buccaneers. Seahawks had won nine straight games. And there's not a lot of ways to cut it, man. It was tough. That was a game the Seahawks absolutely could have won, should have won. Disappointing division opponent. But, you know, it is what it is, man. They get paid, too. Yeah.
00:00:46
Speaker 3: And they were, what, three and two last year at the same time of year. So we know how last year ended. So we can be optimistic. And that's kind of what I'm leaning on. And I look at the team, and they're not that far off. I'm like, look, one play there, one play here. Clean that up. Whereas last year, you're kind of guessing because you really don't know what you have. Whereas this year, you know the personnel. You know the coach. You know the staff. They're going to fix this thing. Firmly believe that.
00:01:13
Speaker 1: Oh, no question about it. I have all the faith in the world. That's what made it that much more disappointing is because you're like, these guys are right there.
00:01:19
Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
00:01:20
Speaker 1: They have yet to put a full four quarters together. And I'd be scared about the rest of the NFL once that happens because they are three and two. And I promise you, you look at it more three or four plays. They're five and no easily, but it is what it is.
00:01:32
Speaker 3: Then ESPN still has them fourth in their power rankings.
00:01:36
Speaker 2: Yeah. Cause you're right.
00:01:36
Speaker 1: Respect is fine. Is there, it's like, okay, we know that this happened. I mean, even all the national people, they're like, okay, even if you just look at the Cooper cup play alone, that could have gone Seahawks way. I mean, so, A lot at stake that happened there, but let's get back into it. Before we look forward to the Denver Broncos, we got to revisit what happened against the Niners. What did happen?
00:01:57
Speaker 3: See, what had happened was what had happened at first was what had happened was on hot talk.
00:02:03
Speaker 1: Man, the Seahawks need to find a way to start a little bit better than they have the last couple weeks, at least offensively. Not the way you want to go. Second week in a row, Sam Darnold's first pass attempt is picked off, giving the Niners an amazing field position. Took just four plays for the 49ers to go 18 yards. Brock Purdy connected with Mike Evans for a two-yard touchdown. That made the score 7-0 to kick things off.
00:02:21
Speaker 3: Yep, then the Hawks will go three and out on their next possession. But we're given a gift as Jacob Cowling will bear down.
00:02:29
Speaker 2: University of Arizona. I see you, Curtis.
00:02:31
Speaker 3: Muffed the punt after being hit by Nehemiah Pritchard, who keeps making plays, man. And Eric Saubert recovered the fumble. Emmanuel Wilson would find the end zone six plays later with a two-yard run, which tied the game at 7-0. And then the next three drives would end in punts. Couldn't get things going. The Hawks would add a field goal to go up 10-7.
00:02:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, and then things started going real well again after forcing another punt. Uh-oh, no. Disaster strikes. Emmanuel Wilson got fumbled on the first play of that drive. Really good play by Fred Warner. I mean, the peanut Tillman punch is just all across the NFL. We saw it in the Monday night game. You got to hold on to the rock. Unfortunately, that popped out. Very next play, Christian Caffrey found the end zone. 11-yard run. That made the score 14-10. 49ers. The Seahawks would kick a field goal in the next drive, helped out by a 15-yard penalty. Late hit, Dre Greenlaw hit Sam Darnold out of bounds. Then he head-butted Ernest Jones, who didn't have the helmet on. Tremendous restraint by Ernest Jones and the rest of that sideline to not swing on anybody after getting head-butted with not having your helmet on. Greenlaw was ejected from the game and suspended for a game after that for his efforts there. Then after Seahawks punt, Seahawks would get pinned deep in their own territory. and with 13 seconds in the half bump. Holy smokes. George Lonnie, he fumbled the football, recovered in the end zone for a 49ers touchdown. Not the way you want to end the half.
00:03:50
Speaker 2: Not at all.
00:03:51
Speaker 3: If you hear raves call. The one thing you can't do, you actually did. I thought there was no way. If anything, I'm like, all right, it's safety. You know, maybe for safety, you live to fight another day. All right, so then the Niners will go into halftime. They're at 21-13. I'm still feeling good, though. I'm thinking, all right, we get the football. We'll be just fine. Second half didn't start very well, though. Sam Darnold was picked off again by Renato Green, having himself a day. Thankfully, the 49ers would miss a field goal on the next drive. After Seahawks field goal, Nehemiah Pritchett would pick off Brock Purdy, which set up a 16-yard touchdown run by JSN.
00:04:24
Speaker 2: Caught that thing, went inside. I was talking to somebody.
00:04:27
Speaker 3: I said, the average receiver in the league would catch and get north-south, get what you can. He caught, went inside, and said, I'm trying to get this money, get this touchdown. Ran that thing in. Great run after catch.
00:04:36
Speaker 1: There's a great still shot if you look at it. It's Fred Warner, Hall of Famer. You have Lenore in the back. There's three Niners defenders. And then someone on social media was like, JSN scores on this play. Because he puts that move on Fred, gets inside, touchdown. Great play by JSN. It's only a matter of time. You can't bottle him up. He's going to make plays in every single game, and he did there. The 49ers would give the ball right back after Debo Samuel fumbled. Kind of an awkward play. He went down, and he just went motionless. It looks like the hamstring is hurting him, so he's probably going to be out for a little bit. Unfortunately, the Seahawks could not take advantage of great field position, had to settle for a field goal. That made the score 26-21. And then Bob, the 49ers put together probably their only really good drive of the game. 12 plays, 74 yards, ending with a seven-yard touchdown to Brandon Cooks. Then Mike Evans would catch a two-point conversion. That made the score 29-26, Niners. Yeah, and Hawks would answer with a field goal. They tied it at 29.
00:05:28
Speaker 3: So the 49ers would put together another drive and kick a 44-yard field goal with 1-56 remaining. Making a score 32-29. You got the ball. Let's see what you do. The Hawks look like they had things going when Sam Darnold connected with Jason for a 35-yard completion in the first down.
00:05:44
Speaker 2: Fives are good. We're feeling good.
00:05:46
Speaker 3: But you get to third and 10, and Jason dropped a football that he will catch. I told you 9 out of 10 times. You're like, nah, 10 out of 10 times. He's catching that football. That was unfortunate. And then the fourth down comes by. You get Cooper Cupp on the sideline. He's fighting for yards. He dives for it. the first down marker, but there's an invisible window or glass on the sideline, and as soon as that ball touches that glass, it is out of bounds, so it's not where he lands. It's where he crosses that little plane. Different than the end zone. That would be all she wrote.
00:06:18
Speaker 1: That being said, though, I think the whole play would have been differently because, in my opinion, no one will convince me this otherwise. I think the official thinks he stepped out of bounds. That's why he immediately, just monsterfully is like, nope, the other way. If he waits and they spot the ball and they have a conversation... I think the spot is different. It's semantics, right? That's not why the Seahawks lost. I do think the Seahawks, I don't think that was the right outcome of that play. It is what it is. Because you can look at other things. Even on that same play bump, if there isn't pressure on Darnold, he hits Cooper Cup in stride. It's an easy first down. That's just kind of how the game went, and things didn't go the Seahawks' way. After looking at the film, looking at all the plays... knowing how many things that the Seahawks gift-wrapped to San Francisco, what'd you learn about the Seahawks after week five?
00:07:05
Speaker 3: I learned that somebody else needs to step up as a pass catcher. We need a consistent number two. And the running backs combined had six receptions, and Cooper Cupp and Rasheed Shaheed had four. And a lot of that was because of checkdowns, because there was nothing there. Sam's getting in trouble. He got a check down, throws it to the running back. But we're still looking for that guy, you know?
00:07:26
Speaker 2: It's going to be.
00:07:27
Speaker 3: Cooper Cup, Rasheed Shaheed, or maybe even Torrey Horton. He only got 11 snaps, but they're still searching for that number two, that solidified number two.
00:07:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, and that guy's on this team. That's the thing. When we started this season, we were raving about the opportunity to have Jason, Cooper Cup, Torrey Horton, and Rasheed Shaheed on the field at the same time. Is A.J. Barner going to step up and be the top tier of tight ends in the league? Elijah Arroyo in his second year, is he going to be? The talent's there. I mean, look at Torrey Horton. I believe he has 13 receptions or 14 or whatever in the league. Six of them are touchdowns. Rashid Shaheed, we know that person is there. It just hasn't come to fruition yet, so I'm interested to see how that's going to go out there. And I just learned, you know, this team will be in every game. I knew that already, but it doesn't matter, it seems like. The last two years, you can play the worst game you can. You can turn the ball over four or five times. We've seen it happen. And in none of those games, usually when you turn the ball over five times, okay. You just had a bad game, got blown up by 25.
00:08:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a wrap.
00:08:26
Speaker 1: Nope, even with the Rams last year, you have a field goal to win. Each of these games, the Seahawks are right there. So, like I said earlier, when they figure this out, watch out. When all three phases of the ball are playing at a high level together, it can be dangerous for this team. Anyway, on Sunday, we did see a lot of people making plays.
00:08:45
Speaker 2: Touchdown, Seahawks! Playmakers.
00:08:49
Speaker 1: Show them what.
00:08:51
Speaker 2: Time it is!
00:08:53
Speaker 1: Holy cow! Best in the world, Jason. Five receptions, 102 yards, one touchdown. He also had to carry for 16 yards. Also had to tackle because he didn't do it all. Jason, the fourth player in NFL history with at least 100 receiving yards in a touchdown reception in four of his team's first five games in a season, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Elroy Crazy Legs Hirsch. I know you guys know about him. 1951 with the Los Angeles Rams. Randy Moss, that historic 2007 season with the Patriots. And Jerry Rice in 1989 with the Niners. Jason stepped up to the podium, and here's another reason why I give him a ton of credit. We all know if there's any issues with this team, he's not one of them. He didn't make one play on one ball that was tough. Harder catch didn't look, but he knows he makes that play a million times. He stepped up to the podium and was the leader. Same with Sam. They don't run from anything. They step up. That wasn't a day where they run out the locker room and not talk to the media. He's like, no, I'm going to own it, and I'm going to take responsibility for it. something he doesn't have to do because he's been a dog and he's our best player on offense. Jackson continues to make plays and we'll get into it later. If certain in those. corners aren't healthy.
00:10:01
Speaker 2: Oh, come on now. Not Jason and class act, man. He knows. And he, he'll be fine.
00:10:08
Speaker 1: Right?
00:10:09
Speaker 2: Not worried about Jason at all. All right.
00:10:11
Speaker 3: Ernest Jones, nine tackles, one TFL, one sack, one quarterback hit one pass, defended in a great play on a screen pass. And most importantly, he kept his cool in the sideline. and didn't get himself in trouble. And you know how hard it is for that team to see their quarterback get hit late and get pushed all the way to where the benches are, looking all discombobulated.
00:10:29
Speaker 2: Everybody jumped on Greenlaw.
00:10:30
Speaker 3: Ernest Jones, one of the first ones, getting his face, kind of touches his helmet, but then, you know, backs up. And Greenlaw, with his composed self, head-butted a man without a helmet on, and he got ejected from the game.
00:10:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, and, I mean, Ernest is the leader. I think Kyle Collins on the huddle today, all these guys have talked about that. and he sets the tone for that side of the ball, and he's playing at a high level, just like this other guy, Byron Murphy, man. Six tackles, three TFLs, two sacks, three QB hits. Me and you have been saying it for a long time. He should have been an All-Pro last year. He's playing at that level this year. Your America's Game of the Week. We're going to have three straight primetime games in a row. I think the rest of the country, if you don't know, now you're going to know about Byron Murphy.
00:11:11
Speaker 2: And he's doing it differently this year.
00:11:12
Speaker 3: A little two-point stance he added to his game.
00:11:15
Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I love it, man.
00:11:16
Speaker 3: You can see the growth in Byron Murphy. How about Nehemiah Pritchett? Huge hit on special teams that caused a fumble and interception. He was solid in coverage. What was that, two games in a row he has an interception? Two of three, I think it is.
00:11:29
Speaker 2: Two of three, yeah.
00:11:29
Speaker 3: Like, Nehemiah has come a long way, right? A guy who was just fighting to be on teams. Last year does a bit better, and this year he's been called upon, and they rely on him.
00:11:40
Speaker 1: They can trust him, so good for Nehemiah. Yeah, no, my brain got scrambled for a minute. He had an interception against the Patriots in that first game.
00:11:45
Speaker 2: Patriots, the first game.
00:11:46
Speaker 1: First game and then last week. But, no, he's– I love what I've seen from him because his trajectory has gone this way. The Seahawks brought in all kinds of people at his position. And what does he do? He keeps finding a way to make plays and say, listen, if I keep making plays, you're going to be on the field. You keep finding your way around the football. You promise you'll be on the field. So props to Nehemiah there. And then Spoon. Four tackles, one TFL, one pass defended. It might not look like his greatest game, but the way he tackles people at his size.
00:12:13
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:12:14
Speaker 1: And it's just when you see Spoon and someone else in the open field, you're like, okay, you're confident he's going to get him down. And Spoon just, he is the firecracker. He's a starter. He's an igniter. And I'm excited what we've seen from him so far this year.
00:12:28
Speaker 3: He straight tossed Brock Purdy on one of them things. Scrambling to the left side, just wrapped around, boom, to the ground.
00:12:34
Speaker 2: I'm like.
00:12:35
Speaker 3: This dude plays like he's about 205, 210. He's about $ 1.
00:12:38
Speaker 2: 75.
00:12:38
Speaker 1: He'd be tossing everybody. Running backs. And just like, again, from like, you look at his body type and you're like, how are you doing this at the NFL level? Spoon is amazing at what he does. That was unfortunate. Seahawks lose the 49ers. They will see them again at the end of November down there. Santa Clara, the place where I believe they won the Super Bowl last year.
00:12:57
Speaker 2: Yes, they did.
00:12:58
Speaker 1: Is that correct?
00:12:58
Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
00:12:59
Speaker 1: So Seahawks got their revenge there. I'm sure of it. The 49ers are a great team. They're 5-0. So- We'll see how their season continues, but we got to flip our attention on a short week to the Denver Broncos. What's on tap? What's on tap? Three and two second place in the NFC or AFC West, excuse me, losses to the chiefs in 49ers, but they beat the Jags Rams and chargers Broncos talented roster 14, three last season, just a game away. The Superbowl Bo Nix gets hurt, breaks his ankle at the end of that divisional crazy game against the Buffalo bills. They had to start Stidham. They lose that game. Obviously, Patriots go to Super Bowl, lose to the Seahawks. They had a lot of high expectations coming into this season. Haven't quite lived up to them. Despite their 3-2 record, there is a lot of noise around Bo Nix, who we'll get into. Offensive, Sean Payton retook the play calling duties. Never a great sign five games into a season. They didn't set the world on fire this last week against the Chargers, but they did get the win.
00:13:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, they did, man.
00:13:57
Speaker 3: It was an interesting game, man. The turnovers were a huge factor in this game, right? The Chargers turned the ball over three times on Sunday. They were up 17-10 heading to the fourth. They faced a fourth and one from their 41-yard line, and Herbert was stopped for no game.
00:14:11
Speaker 2: Then things fell apart.
00:14:13
Speaker 3: Broncos would take advantage of the short field with a Cortland Sutton touchdown.
00:14:16
Speaker 2: They tied it at 17.
00:14:17
Speaker 3: Then two plays later, Herbert was sacked and fumbled the ball, and the Broncos would turn that into three points.
00:14:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, and it continued on the next drive. Herbert with an interception. Pass intended for our old friend Marquez Valdez-Scantling. Broncos would add another field goal and end the ballgame. Chargers.
00:14:34
Speaker 2: Hey, trade Herbert. Trade him. To who? I don't know. Somebody out there need a quarterback. Trade him.
00:14:40
Speaker 1: I mean.
00:14:41
Speaker 2: Get him out of there.
00:14:42
Speaker 1: They were supposed to compete for the division.
00:14:44
Speaker 2: He needs a fresh start.
00:14:45
Speaker 1: Man.
00:14:45
Speaker 2: Not midseason. I'm talking about when season's over. Listen, I don't know, man. Get him out of there, man.
00:14:50
Speaker 1: There's going to be some soul searching because Harbaugh's a good coach, but 0-5 is not.
00:14:53
Speaker 3: If they have a top five pick, you trade him and you get one of these young quarterbacks coming out. Let Harbaugh work his magic with a new guy.
00:15:00
Speaker 2: Interesting.
00:15:01
Speaker 1: You heard it here first. We'll check back in. Bo Nix, 16-27, 123, a touchdown, zero interceptions, did lose a fumble. Yeah, it's not great. Their offense is, if you listen to, I listened to a little bit of Denver talk radio this week. Oh, my God. You would think they're on five.
00:15:20
Speaker 2: Oh, really?
00:15:21
Speaker 1: I mean, the conversation around Bo Nix is insane. I mean, I've watched him a little bit. There's obviously some struggles there, but, wow, it is not positive enough. What's going down there? But let's flip ahead to this head-to-head matchup. Offensively, both teams kind of middle of the pack to back. Seahawks are 17th in total offense, 17th in rush offense, 16th in pass offense, and 8th in points per game at 26. Looking at the Broncos, they are 30th in total offense, averaging 269 yards a game, 25th in the run, 25th in the pass, 26 in points per game at 19.4. So they are struggling to put up points offensively.
00:15:55
Speaker 3: And on the defensive side, the Hawks are second overall, 11th against the run, second against the pass, and ninth when it comes to points allowed. This Broncos defense, who we thought was going to be really good following up from last year, but injuries and whatnot obviously didn't help. They are 22nd overall, 29th against the run, 9th against the pass, and 14th when it comes to points allowed, allowing 22.2.
00:16:18
Speaker 2: Things are a bit different for Denver this year.
00:16:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean... You go from they're 14-3 last year, but people forget they won a crazy amount of one-score games. A lot of crazy finishes. Now you play a first-place schedule harder. Obviously, much harder schedule. I mean, they're in decent shape. They're 3-2. It's not like they're out of it, but it's definitely not the start, especially when you think you have your franchise quarterback and you have Sean Payton, who's an offensive guru, hands the play, calling duties off. And that's got to be tough to just then come back to work knowing that that was your job and essentially take it from you. It's not a great situation there, obviously, offensively. So we'll see how that kind of continues this week against a good Seahawks defense. These teams are both AFC West rivals from back in the day. Let's know the history.
00:17:05
Speaker 2: Know your history.
00:17:07
Speaker 1: Broncos, they lead the all-time series 35-23. Seahawks have a 2-0 advantage in the playoffs. We know one of those was the Super Bowl XLVIII. Old rivals from the AFC West don't play anymore every four or so years. But the Seahawks have won four of the last five games in this matchup. Last game was the start of the 2024 season, which was the beginning of the Mike McDonald era. That was also the beginning of the Bo Nix era. That day, the Seahawks won that game 26-20. Kind of a weird game. They had to overcome two safeties in that game. Geno Smith threw an interception. He had a decent day, 18-25, 171. One touchdown, one pick. He also had like a 34-yard rushing touchdown, which I think was by far the longest of his career. Ken Walker at 103 yards and 20 carries in touchdown. Zach Charbonnet added a 30-yard touchdown reception. Tyler Lockett, six receptions, 77 yards. And Julian Love, little defensive player with 12 tackles, a TFL, and a pick. Bo Nix in his first NFL game was 26-42, 138-0 touchdowns and two interceptions. Hope to see a little bit more of the same. Very interesting to read some of those names because that feels like now like 50 years ago.
00:18:15
Speaker 2: It does, man. It does.
00:18:16
Speaker 3: What's up, Tyler Lockett? Hope retirement is good. Did he officially retire yet?
00:18:21
Speaker 1: I believe so. The only thing, I mean, I don't know if he officially put it out there, but I've seen him doing his thing. He had a really cool social media video where he is like got some like VR glasses on and he's like selling a house. But like through receipt. Anyway, Tyler Lockett always doing his thing. One of our favorites throughout the years. Let's see what's going on in the NFC West.
00:18:39
Speaker 2: What's the word?
00:18:43
Speaker 1: Westside!
00:18:43
Speaker 2: Where my soldiers at?
00:18:45
Speaker 1: Westside!
00:18:45
Speaker 2: And the Seahawks are the NFC West champs again.
00:18:47
Speaker 3: What's the word in the West on Hawk Talk? Those day niners on top of the division right now. 5-0, Hawks right behind them, 3-2. The Rams behind them, 2-3. And the Cardinals are 1-4. Let's visit this Bills-Rams game. Man, the Bills, West Coast tripping. I think they got the Chargers next.
00:19:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, they're staying.
00:19:07
Speaker 3: So they're staying out there. But, man, outside of the Seahawks game, this was the best game of the week. It was a crazy back and forth game that saw six straight touchdown drives in the second half, including the Rams tying the game with five seconds left in regulation.
00:19:21
Speaker 2: The game went to overtime with the Rams winning the toss.
00:19:23
Speaker 3: The bills took the ball and Josh Allen connected with Khalil Shakir for 57 yard game. It looked like it was going to be a touchdown, but he just barely got tripping on the next play.
00:19:34
Speaker 2: James could fumble the ball, giving the ball right back to the Rams.
00:19:38
Speaker 1: At this moment. I think anyone who's a Seahawks fan or anyone who just watches the Bills goes, I knew it. I knew it. Bills are going to blow it again, just like they always do in these situations. Big games are going to. find a way to lose. Coming into that game, Josh Allen was 0-7 in overtime games leading into it, but not so fast. Stafford leads them right down the field. They go to kick a field goal. It is blocked by Greg Russo. Then Josh Allen, they get the ball back, takes the game into his hands. Two big QB runs, sets up a Tyler Bass game-winning field goal. And they found a game that they usually always lose. Now, it's the regular season. For them, they're unfortunately, at this point, he can only be judged what he does in the playoffs. It's almost like these games don't matter, even though they do. But might be a huge confidence builder there. I mean, if you're Cook and you fumble twice and you watch that happen, and Josh Allen just did his thing. Cook, he ran for 111 yards, two tuds, but two fumbles there. Stafford, he went crazy stat-wise. 40, 54, 383, three touchdowns. Now thrown for 150 touchdowns and two touchdowns. For two franchises, only QB to ever do that.
00:20:42
Speaker 2: And Puka did his thing, too. Yeah.
00:20:44
Speaker 3: Puka, career high, 17 receptions for 138. I think their franchise record was 19. I can't say that I wasn't low-key hoping he got it just to see a receiver do his thing.
00:20:54
Speaker 2: And he had a touchdown.
00:20:55
Speaker 3: Devontae had two touchdowns reception. That's all he does. And the Rams will host the 1-4 Cardinals on Sunday. So they'll probably improve to 3-3.
00:21:06
Speaker 1: I would assume so.
00:21:07
Speaker 2: But you never know.
00:21:08
Speaker 1: That's why you play the games. I think... For everyone, the Rams, we can see the talent. But for everyone anointing them champs, I'll say each and every week, you can't win a Super Bowl in June. So it's just interesting to me, man, because I just want to see how they handle adversity as the year goes on. They have an easier stretch on paper for the next four or five weeks. So we'll keep a close eye on what the Seahawks or what the Rams are doing. Seahawks will not play them until Christmas Day. So a long time. A lot of things would happen before that matchup. You mentioned the Cardinals. The Lions came down to Arizona, and they put a whooping on them. Being a 45-21, they were losing by 31 points at one point. And the crazy thing is they marched right down the field and scored. They were up 7-0 to start this game. Would end up getting outscored 45-14 the rest of the way. Brissette threw three touchdowns, almost 300 yards. He had an interception. Decent day for him. Love, he isn't putting up the numbers that you would have hoped for at that high draft pick. 12 carries, 22 yards. Trey McBride's still doing his thing. He'll be an all-pro. He'll stack up all the numbers. His team is going to win a lot of games, though. Nine receptions, 66 yards, and a touchdown. And then Marvin Harrison bump. Thoughts on the Marvin Harrison trade?
00:22:15
Speaker 2: I like it. I said it.
00:22:17
Speaker 1: For both?
00:22:17
Speaker 3: I said get out of here. Yeah, I think he just needed a new spot, and then what? Arizona gets a second-round pick, which might be a high pick for them.
00:22:24
Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
00:22:25
Speaker 3: Might be like 37 or something like that. So I think both teams needed this, right? Texas needed a receiver. Arizona needed just that energy out the locker room, and they get a second-round pick.
00:22:36
Speaker 2: I think it worked out for both teams.
00:22:38
Speaker 1: Just weird to me though i just feel like when especially when the floor took over i was like okay i thought that was the fresh start he needed but obviously things were still not working down there in the desert hate to see it but we'll see how marvin harrison continues the pressure's on man because all your ohio state buddies are either pro bowlers.
00:22:55
Speaker 2: Or all pros olave jsn um.
00:22:59
Speaker 1: Anyone who's in the room um garrett wilson garrett wilson um What's his name that played in Detroit? I mean, there's just all these different guys that are in the room at one point. I mean, it's unreal.
00:23:08
Speaker 2: And Jeremiah Smith is on his way.
00:23:11
Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah. To win a Heisman maybe.
00:23:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, for real. Come on now. He nice, nice.
00:23:16
Speaker 1: That water up there in Columbus is something else. But let's flip our attention back to these Denver Broncos. Time to man up. Hey, who you got?
00:23:24
Speaker 2: Who you got?
00:23:25
Speaker 1: You know what time it is.
00:23:25
Speaker 2: Man up.
00:23:26
Speaker 1: Man up, brother.
00:23:27
Speaker 2: Man up.
00:23:27
Speaker 1: Man up on Hawk Talk. He's been a lightning rod for controversy right now. Bo Nix taking on the Seahawks defense. Nix is in his third season as starting quarterback for the Broncos, drafted in the first round of the 2024 draft, when about a million QBs won in that first round. As a rookie, threw for 3,777 yards, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, also had 430 yards on the ground, four touchdowns. Last year, very similar, 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 350-plus rushing yards, and five touchdowns. That effort took them to the AFC Championship game like we talked about. They had won their first AFC West title since 2015, and the Chiefs had won nine in a row at that point. But right now the heat is on. Like I mentioned, people are all over him right now. You listen to Denver's Poor Stock Radio. You listen to ESPN, Dan Arlosky. He's what he said about Bo Nix. He said, here's the thing. Bo is one read panic. What I mean is if the number one option isn't there, if the number one option is there, he's cool. If it's not, he starts to panic. Not good. So you have all these different people analyzing what they're seeing from him. Mind you, he's coming off an injury. So that's another factor we have to think about it. And his numbers aren't just, like, god-awful, but they're not great. 97 to 162, 942 yards, six touchdowns, three interceptions. But you would think he's throwing 100 the way people are talking about him right now. We watched him. If you were from this area, you saw him in Oregon for a while. He was at Auburn. He's been around. I think he's 27 or 26, 27 years old at this point. So it'll be interesting to see what the Seahawks can do. And if you are struggling, this is not the defense you want to see, especially at guys like Byron Murphy on that defense. So let's see what happens, man.
00:25:05
Speaker 3: Murphy's doing his thing. Of course, Leo is being violent in there. And the Hawks, man, they're ninth in scoring defense, right?
00:25:12
Speaker 2: Allowing 21 points per game.
00:25:13
Speaker 3: And they are second in passing defense line, 150 yards per game. Should be a rough day for Bo Nix, but you never know. Got to play those games. All right, let's talk about our quarterback, Sam Darnold, against his Broncos defense. He's not coming off his best performance. He was 18 of 29, a buck 95, one touchdown, two interceptions. He was also sacked a season high five times. I think that's the most he's been sacked as a Seahawk, honestly. So far in 2026, he's completing 64% of his passes for 755 yards, seven touchdowns, and an early five interceptions. His QB rating is 90.3, and he's been sacked nine times on the season. Got to clean some things up, man, but I think– We have good reason to believe Donald could have a big game against the Broncos. The Broncos are ninth in pass defense, allowing 202 yards per game, but they're missing two of their top corners. Got Riley Moss, who let the NFL pass a defendant in 2025-19.
00:26:05
Speaker 2: He's dealing with a rib.
00:26:06
Speaker 3: And then the Broncos have also been without four-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro Patrick Sertain. So this could be an opportunity. You know, missing some guys, take advantage. But in the day, it's about you. Good decisions, catch the football, but you can't take advantage of a situation.
00:26:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, it looks like Moss was limited earlier in the week. Sertain did not practice on Monday and Tuesday. So we'll see what happens moving forward. Obviously, if he's not out there, it's a big advantage to the Seahawks. But you mentioned Darnold had been sacked five times bump. He's been pressured on 42.7% of his dropbacks, fifth highest in the NFL. He's also been hit more than any other quarterback 20% of the time. So that needs to get corrected this week. I think it's a collective effort offensively for everyone to play a little better run game offensive line. But it's there. We've seen it. It is a proven track record, like you've been saying all week, why we're not concerned. Everyone on that offense, you're only missing Anthony Bradford in terms of the offensive line coming back, right? The receivers, they're going to be fine. They just got to put it together on, I was going to say Sunday, hopefully on Thursday. So we'll see there. Looking at the running game for the Broncos, J.K. Dobbins, he set a rough, rough go to start his career. Six seasons in the NFL, really had a promising rookie season. and then just a slew of injuries, like Torres ACL and meniscus, Torres Achilles, sprains ACL, had a list, Frank. Back to back. I mean, it's been brutal. And during his time, he's three years with the Ravens, one year with the Chargers, two seasons with the Broncos. Solid player when healthy so far. He has been healthy for him, knock on wood, playing all five games. Rushed with 229 in a touchdown, so nothing to set the world on fire. But he's the only one doing it. RJ Harvey only has 56 rushing yards. He's the next closest. Broncos ranked 25th in rushing yards. Bo Nix is usually a factor in their run game as well. But I'm saying advantage Seahawks. Seahawks have not allowed a 100-yard rusher franchise record 31 consecutive games, 34 including the playoffs. And I think this is a matchup where you shut down the run, you make it hard on Bo Nix, it could be a long day for them.
00:28:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be, man. He's still a young quarterback, right? He's still trying to figure some things out. So confuse the young man. Put some pressure on him. Let's talk about their receivers. Jalen Waddell, who they traded a lot for. Cortland Sutton. and Evan Ingram against the Seahawks secondary. The Broncos made a big splash this offseason, trading for Jalen Waddell. Waddell was the sixth overall pick in 2021 and has recorded three 1,000-yard seasons in his first five years in the league, including a career-high 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022. Waddell is one of 16 players in the NFL to record at least 1,000 yards seasons since 2021. Waddle has recorded 58 catches, 744 yards in each of his first five NFL seasons and caught 64 passes for 690 and six touchdowns in 2025.
00:28:53
Speaker 2: So far, the year has been good for Waddle.
00:28:55
Speaker 3: He's been all right. He's the leading receiver over there. 18 receptions, 204 yards, one touchdown. But he's a guy who can get you. He's one of the fastest guys in the league. We saw him when he was with Miami a few years ago. He's had his moments. So, yeah, you got to watch him. And then The OG Corlin Sutton. I can't believe we're calling him an OG already. How long has he been in the league?
00:29:15
Speaker 1: Well, when you've been in the league nine years, you get to be OG.
00:29:17
Speaker 2: Is he SMU?
00:29:19
Speaker 1: Yes. I'm pretty sure. Shout out, Jim Mueller. 3,000-yard season in the NFL. He's gotten in the Pro Bowl twice, including last season. Last year, 74 for 1,017. Seven touchdowns. Big target. Makes some plays on the football. But when you look through their numbers, I mean, it makes sense why people are questioning So 11 receptions, 104 yards, one touchdown between the two. These are both pro bowl guys in the production. Just hasn't been there. We're not seeing it through the air and in the past game. So you definitely see some frustration there probably. And then Evan Ingram, I know he's a tight end, but he's in his 10th season. So another guy who's, who has, has a lot of receptions in this league, he's at least 400 receiving yards in eight of nine seasons. Pro Bowl or twice. So far this year, 10 receptions, 121, one touchdown. A lot of their guys are in that realm. So this group hasn't put up good numbers, but they have the talent to do it. They're getting ready for this game. Seahawks, we know, have the second-best pass defense in the NFL on just 150 yards per game. So it should be an interesting matchup again. I think advantage Seahawks on that one.
00:30:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
00:30:19
Speaker 3: Line them up. Knock them down. Let's get it. Let's talk about our receivers. Jason, Cooper Cupp, Rasheed Shaheed. Of course, we know last week with Jason did five for 102, a touchdown, a carry for 16, and a play he wishes he could have had back over the shoulder, a little post, corner, just couldn't get his hands on it. Through four weeks here is where Jason is ranked in the NFL. Receiving yards first, receiving touchdowns first, longest reception first, receiving yards per game first, yards per touch first, and a humble fifth when it comes to yards from scrimmage.
00:30:52
Speaker 1: Is that okay?
00:30:54
Speaker 2: I will accept that.
00:30:55
Speaker 1: To add off that bump, I just saw this from NextGenStats. Jason's accounted for 49% of the Seahawks receiving yards this year. Highest share by any player through Week 5 since at least 2016. That's when NextGen started tracking this stuff. So Jason is obviously out of this world. And again, if their corners aren't out there, could we see 200? I said it.
00:31:16
Speaker 2: I don't know. Does he have a 200-yard game?
00:31:18
Speaker 1: He has a very close.
00:31:20
Speaker 2: The Rams?
00:31:21
Speaker 1: Very close. But I think it was like high 180s. Yeah.
00:31:25
Speaker 2: I think it was the Rams.
00:31:26
Speaker 3: All right, so now we got Cooper Cupp, 11 for 129, one touchdown. He needs two yards to become the 97th player in NFL history with 8,500 career receiving yards.
00:31:38
Speaker 2: Did you find it? It's loading.
00:31:39
Speaker 1: I was going to let you know. You're thinking of the Rams game in 2024. He dropped a pass early and fumbled, but then went off, and that was when DK and them were still here. I'm still thinking that, but I'm just, you know, on the internet.
00:31:51
Speaker 2: All right. So let's go to Rasheed Shaheed.
00:31:53
Speaker 3: He has three carries for 37 yards and a touchdown, nine receptions for 96. Somebody other than Jason needs to step up. I don't care who it is.
00:32:01
Speaker 2: Amy Cooper Cup, Rasheed Shaheed, Torrey Horton, A.J.
00:32:04
Speaker 1: Barner.
00:32:05
Speaker 2: It don't matter.
00:32:06
Speaker 3: There's too much talent for there to be such a drop-off in production with Jason is not doing it. This might be the week if Sertan and Moss are not playing on Thursday.
00:32:16
Speaker 1: Absolutely. Absolutely. To update you on that, yes, it is that Rams game we were thinking of, that overtime loss in 2024. He had 180 yards that game. He has, I believe now he has 16 games of over 100 yards. That's crazy. He's got another 96, 96, 95, 93, 94. I mean, his numbers are pretty insane, but you never know. I'm just feeling like we're going to get a big game from Jason. But to your point, though, like everyone's been saying for a long time, someone else needs to And not that guys are trying to. It just needs to come to fruition, right? Everything needs to happen. You know, as a receiver, obviously, who am I telling? O-line's got to block. Sam's got to see it. Play's got to... All of these different things got to happen. I have to see for that to happen. So hopefully that'll get done this week because these guys are too talented for it not to happen. So I'm excited to see what the Seahawks can do. I feel like even though this is a very good Broncos team, I feel like this could be a get-right game for the Seahawks. And it would be huge to get right with... A little bit of a mini-bye before you play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, which brings us to the end of the podcast, Path to Victory. How did Seahawks get it done? At the 45, waits for the snap.
00:33:24
Speaker 2: Michael Dixon puts it down.
00:33:25
Speaker 1: That kick is away. And that kick is good! The Seahawks win! It's good! It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk. First and foremost, Bump, take care of the football. That's the number one thing. The Seahawks have given away the ball nine times this season. That's tied for fourth most in the NFL. Thankfully, the Seahawks lead the NFL in takeaways with 11 to bounce that thing out. Seahawks have given up 45 points off of turnovers in the last three games, including two defensive scores. This can't continue. And you take those away, the Seahawks are blowing teams out.
00:33:57
Speaker 3: And then start fast, please. The Seahawks have only scored first in one game this year. And that was against the Cardinals. The Hawks have played from behind in every other game. It's hard to win that way consistently. And JSN, keep being JSN. And like we mentioned, someone else, help out JSN.
00:34:16
Speaker 1: Not a broken record. That's the thing. Again, we keep saying it, but when it happens, it's going to feel right because we have guys on the team to get that done. Find your run game. This might be the key to the game bump. The Broncos are 29th in the NFL in rush defense. They allow 145 yards per game. This might be the week to jumpstart that run game and really build some confidence again to do what you can and know how you can do it. Because they've done it this year. You close out a game against the Cardinals. You have decent running performances several other times this year, even against the Chargers. So get back to doing that.
00:34:50
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:34:51
Speaker 3: And close these guys out. Take the football away. We just got to hit all the cliches, okay? Take care of the football. Be good on third down. Be good in the red zone. And get after the quarterback, right? Bo Nix has been struggling this year. So make him feel that pressure. Get after him. Lock these receivers down. And I feel good about Thursday night football.
00:35:11
Speaker 1: Absolutely. Obviously, you know, you mentioned all those things. The Seahawks are capable of doing that. I think we know they're very good in the few losses they've had in this era responding to them. I expect nothing less. On Thursday night football, Seahawks traveling to Denver to take on these Broncos. Me and Bump will be with you next week, hopefully talking about a Seahawks victory. He's Michael Bump. This has been Nassau Chobi. This has been Hawk Talk.
