As we enter the final quarter of the year and approach the holiday season, there is one kind of clutter that no organizing system can address — the emotional weight we carry from unresolved hurt, resentment, and unforgiveness. This week, Janet M. Taylor sits down with transformational specialist Dr. Dravon James to talk about how releasing that emotional clutter through the practice of forgiveness can help you step into the holidays feeling lighter, freer, and more at peace.
Dr. Dravon James is the founder and director of Everyday Peace, the author of Forgiveness: The Pathway to Happiness, a coach on SiriusXM's Road Dog Trucking Show, a healthcare leader with over three decades of experience, and an actress with credits including a recurring role on HBO's The Wire. She is also the founder of the Next Step Leadership Academy, where she leads women to their next level of greatness using the power of everyday peace.
In this conversation, Dr. Dravon shares her own deeply personal journey to forgiveness following an unexpected divorce after nearly 25 years of marriage, and how that experience led her to develop a deeper and more intentional forgiveness practice. She explains why forgiveness is truly a gift you give yourself, why it does not mean that what happened was acceptable, and why it never requires reconciliation or even a conversation with the other person.
Dr. Dravon walks through a powerful two-column journaling exercise to help listeners identify the gap between how they currently feel and how they want to feel entering the holiday season, and explains why forgiving yourself is always the essential first step. She also addresses why the holidays can feel so emotionally heavy for so many people, and how to prepare with intention rather than being caught off guard year after year.
Janet shares a client story about a woman who spent years as a caregiver for her mother and, after her mother's passing, worked with Janet to rebuild her systems, take back control of her finances, and clear her closet of everything that no longer represented the life she was stepping into.
This episode also includes Organizing with Janet, Taylor's Tip Time with strategies for working through mental and emotional clutter, and a Toss It Tuesday reminder about releasing items connected to chapters of your life that have already closed.
