Speaker 1: The Frames Per Second Podcast.
00:00:09
Speaker 2: What's going on? It's your boy, Nick.
00:00:11
Speaker 3: I am here with two-thirds of the super production team of Dead End Hip Hop, starting with Kenneth B.
00:00:18
Speaker 4: Inch.
00:00:18
Speaker 1: How you doing, man? Hola.
00:00:21
Speaker 2: And Jalen, a.k.a.
00:00:22
Speaker 1: Doc.
00:00:22
Speaker 2: How you doing, bro? I'm good, brother. You? I'm good. I'm good.
00:00:26
Speaker 3: You're now tuning in to the Frames Per Second Podcast, and Is this Patreon or are we giving this to the streets?
00:00:33
Speaker 2: It's to the streets.
00:00:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, I already know.
00:00:36
Speaker 2: I favor Patreon because I can be a little more loose.
00:00:38
Speaker 3: But nonetheless, you are tuned in to another episode of Friends for a Second Podcast. And in this episode, we are recapping the second season of the Amazon Prime original series, original animated series coming from the D.C. It's just coming from D.C. I don't know if it's part of James Gunn's stuff. I don't think it is.
00:00:58
Speaker 2: Um, yeah.
00:00:59
Speaker 3: Uh, but it's coming from DC nonetheless, DC comic universe, um, starting up one of our favorite characters to talk about review about just to have all kinds of debates about Batman with this, uh, episode recap being dedicated to the series, the Batman Cape crusader, uh, season two. So yeah, we, we, I remember we reviewed season one and I think all of them, I think it was just us three again. Uh, and I think we all pretty much like that for my, uh, from my recollection, but you guys can correct me if I'm wrong. So I'm curious to see what you all think about this second season. So I'll start with you, Jay. What were your overall thoughts on season two?
00:01:40
Speaker 2: It started out.
00:01:42
Speaker 4: On a good foot, but it ended great. So overall, I'm a big fan of this season. It feels darker, but it also feels different. It has a lot of similarities, like we mentioned, in the first season to the animated series, which is a very nostalgic place to be.
00:02:01
Speaker 2: But it doesn't stay there. It has its own flavor, of course.
00:02:04
Speaker 4: That series is dark in its own way, but it doesn't really go all the way there. But this one is taking chances that that one didn't. It's also touching themes.
00:02:15
Speaker 2: That that one didn't.
00:02:16
Speaker 4: So, yeah, the beginning of it was good, but as the season progressed, it definitely got better. And the more they lean into the darkness of it, Man, I just fuck with it.
00:02:27
Speaker 2: I fuck with this.
00:02:30
Speaker 1: What about you, Ken? Yeah, I'm a fan.
00:02:34
Speaker 5: I knew I remember liking the first season, but this one did feel a little bit different with some of the things that they were doing on the show. Um, you know, with the Riddler and eventually the Joker was some of the stories they were telling.
00:02:57
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:57
Speaker 5: I found myself like all, uh, definitely into everything that was going on and, and yeah, I, I, I benched it.
00:03:05
Speaker 1: I looked kind of like I benched it. So, um, so I thought they did a really good job.
00:03:09
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:03:09
Speaker 1: I really enjoyed it.
00:03:12
Speaker 2: I enjoyed it as well.
00:03:14
Speaker 3: Um, when it comes to shows like this one, I think they drop all the episodes.
00:03:18
Speaker 2: I don't like binge watching as much. It's weird.
00:03:21
Speaker 3: I like knowing the comfort that I can watch the whole season in one night if I wanted to, or I can watch multiple episodes if I want to. But I usually don't like doing that because usually I get kind of overstimulated with.
00:03:32
Speaker 2: Just being in one world continuously.
00:03:35
Speaker 3: Like, sometimes I need to take a break, sit with what I just watched, and then come back to it and be like, oh, okay, I get why, you know, it's kind of started to click. But, Jay, you mentioned it. This season was dark.
00:03:47
Speaker 1: Like.
00:03:48
Speaker 3: They kind of touched on stuff season one and you kind of knew that they were like, all right, this is a new, it gives you feels of the original series or animated series. But this is just a different spin, but they kind of went even darker because I knew they weren't going to be able to spin too many characters. We're like, okay, now we got to expect either, you know, gender changes, ethnic changes to like some of the characters that we kind of grew up with. but they were like, nah, we ain't even worth, that's already going to be there. We going to get dark. We going, we taking people.
00:04:20
Speaker 2: Off the board. Um, and I really appreciated that.
00:04:25
Speaker 3: And I really appreciated, um, how they tested Bruce this series, this season too, especially him and his, uh, relationship with Alfred, uh, who he called Pennyworth. You know, that's, that's, I feel like he's still disrespect. I feel like going off of the original series or just like Batman, the, uh, what's his name? Um, The famous person, Kevin Conroy, the one who voiced the original. I feel like we always look at that as the ultimate relationship between Bruce and Alfred. So whenever he calls a painting, I'm like, bro, he don't really mess with Alfred like that. But then it shows in different ways. I like how they touched on how he still does in this iteration of him.
00:05:05
Speaker 2: So I enjoyed the season. I thought it was really interesting.
00:05:08
Speaker 3: So I'm glad that we are on the same page because we start off the season... kind of picking up where we left off last season with an imprisoned Thorn, the big mob boss Thorn, awaiting trial. And then we see the pro-Thorn talk show host, Hattie Tech, or Tech, reveal that the case against Thorn rests on the testimony of his accountant, Julian Gregory. And based off of that, Thorn orders his lieutenant, his number one lieutenant, which ends up being Eddie Nygma, to kill Gregory, the accountant. And then, of course, in the midst of this, meanwhile, there's the GCPD, Gotham City Police Department, are aware of the leak. And Gordon assigns his top trusted lieutenant or cop, Montoya, to partner with the most corrupt cop we got, the black man, Flass.
00:06:02
Speaker 2: To investigate all this.
00:06:04
Speaker 3: So, like, again, there's so much to talk about in this show that I'm just going to hit the main beats.
00:06:09
Speaker 2: But y'all can feel free to talk about the main thing.
00:06:10
Speaker 3: But that was pretty much the main premise of how we start off this but ken what did you think about how we started off this season.
00:06:19
Speaker 5: I think it did it did a good job of setting the the tone for me uh with uh enigma because i really could give two fucks about the riddler uh yeah yeah yeah um i think he's probably one of batman's worst villains but really yeah i don't oh yeah yeah yeah i don't think it yeah well i'm not a fan of the riddler.
00:06:49
Speaker 1: Like that um.
00:06:51
Speaker 5: But uh but i like what they did with him though like this this riddler like for like for for a while i didn't i i was wondering if that was really him and i know it's like this other world this noir thing and it's a gangster whatever uh but no, I really enjoy how they set everything off with this, this first episode that we got.
00:07:19
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:07:19
Speaker 2: Jay, I was going to ask you like, what did you think of this version.
00:07:21
Speaker 1: Of the riddler? I fuck with it.
00:07:24
Speaker 2: Um, cause they're trying to, they're trying to keep a balance.
00:07:27
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
00:07:27
Speaker 4: I'm being grounded, but still having, um, honestly, it's not even that fantastical at all.
00:07:32
Speaker 2: It's just, it's still just like, it feels like more grounded. Um, And more grounded than even the animated series. So I really like that idea. So that way it.
00:07:46
Speaker 4: Differentiates from what it was in the animated series. But us, we still get the nostalgic feel no matter what because of the animation style.
00:07:57
Speaker 2: So this version of Riddler, and as the season goes on, he.
00:08:00
Speaker 4: Just gets more ruthless and ruthless. But we just get to see that side of him. I fuck with this side that they actually went with as compared to having him be as.
00:08:12
Speaker 2: The Riddler isn't really goofy. The Joker's the goofy one.
00:08:14
Speaker 4: I think sometimes for me, my first introduction to The Riddler, unfortunately, was the Jim Carrey version.
00:08:22
Speaker 2: That's the one that Kendall was thinking about every time he heard his name. Yeah, exactly. That's why Kendall mess with him. But yeah, I mess with this version for sure.
00:08:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, I felt like I felt like the Riddler, and I think there may have been a comic later down in Batman where they kind of try to reinvent Riddler.
00:08:42
Speaker 2: To be a little bit more menacing.
00:08:43
Speaker 3: Of course, the most recent Batman movie with Robert Pattinson kind of shows if the Riddler can really get his just due, how compelling could he be?
00:08:55
Speaker 2: But I love this version.
00:08:56
Speaker 3: This is probably my favorite version of Riddler because it's like the Riddles get childish and too playful and he comes he comes up being like not taken seriously because he's just like all right bro if you do the new york times crossword puzzle every day you probably can figure out what he's talking about but i like the fact that he kind of his ruthlessness was the forefront it wasn't the fact that he was telling riddles and all that stuff he did that a little bit but his ruthlessness was the forefront and like i like how he kind of just set the tone and like he was actually somebody whenever he walked in a room people feared him that's not how it was in the animated show and he didn't have no goofy costume he had his colors but it wasn't like no goofy costume um so i really like that um.
00:09:40
Speaker 4: I think also having him be a part of like thorn being like a part of the crime family with thorn helps as far as us buying into him especially if he's going he's like the the number one guy to thorn and add to like taking him more seriously compared to what people have probably done in the past for his character.
00:09:57
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:09:59
Speaker 2: Um, moving on just a little bit uh we see.
00:10:02
Speaker 3: Batman foils enigma's initial attack on gregory prompt enigma to go visit hugo strange um and acquire a toxin uh he uses that on one of his lackeys turning him into a monster uh and then that lackey it ends up attacking the safe house where gregory is kept but batman again intervenes and stops him but it made me want to think about like because we didn't get too much of this character because i feel like i think ken you may agree scarecrow is a lot more interesting than the riddler but they gave scarecrow like what two episodes and they took him out like quick what do you think of how they introduced and exited hugo strange.
00:10:43
Speaker 5: I was i was surprised And I wasn't prepared because typically Batman's villains, they stay around. So when they killed him, I thought, well, maybe that's just another version. And then we'll get the original version later on. But that didn't happen. He stayed dead. So I thought that that was really, really interesting. But it made me start to really appreciate and like the show because I did not expect people to die. And then all the blood and some of the gruesome ways they were killing people. It really caught me off guard.
00:11:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, Jay, I don't know about you, but seeing how they were able to... Again, you already know me. I don't mind players getting taken off the board. If anything, I encourage it. But it felt like with characters as rich as Scarecrow, I was like, wow, are they really going to go this route?
00:11:34
Speaker 2: And I was uniquely surprised by that.
00:11:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's surprising, but in the same way, i feel like it's easy to bring like a character like scarecrow back as far as like just putting somebody in his his space on his place i personally don't know the backstory to scarecrow as much but i feel like it's capable of bringing them back you know what i'm saying.
00:11:57
Speaker 2: Because the the fear for batman you know what.
00:12:00
Speaker 4: I'm saying i did kind of i did kind of um I didn't like the way Batman kind of overcame his fear.
00:12:05
Speaker 2: It seemed kind of easy for him.
00:12:07
Speaker 3: Oh, you're talking about the other guy who kind of played off the fear toxin and stuff like that.
00:12:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't like that part.
00:12:15
Speaker 4: But yeah, taking him off the board, it also set the tone for anything can happen. And it kind of continued to go that way. I thought maybe they did it. to like, all right, this is where the stakes at. And so y'all really got to expect too many people dying, but then not able to set the tone and know anybody can fucking go at any point.
00:12:33
Speaker 2: I respect the route.
00:12:35
Speaker 1: Trust me.
00:12:36
Speaker 2: I I'm, I'm the same way.
00:12:37
Speaker 3: Cause after we see, um, the accountant testify again, Gotham is the most corrupt. See, I don't know why anybody lives there. I don't know why anybody, even if you have money, you want to stay there because the cops did everything right. And Thorne still got off. Um, for whatever reason. However, and it was kind of alluded to in the last season, Thorne later gets killed by laughing toxin, administrated by his driver. And then we, obviously we know where that's going to lead to, but then we also see Batman is forced, well, Barbara forces Batman and Commissioner Gordon to kind of discuss and like work together more as he, Commissioner Gordon realizes like, I can't do all this on my own.
00:13:22
Speaker 2: I need actually your help.
00:13:24
Speaker 3: Which is always fascinating to me, Ken, that cops are so bad at their job that they are looking for a random dude dressed as a bat to help them save the city. Again, this is all in the first episode, so was this a great way to open up the series? Especially because the laughing toxin in this series, to me, they went overboard in a creepy way.
00:13:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, they linger from episode to episode mostly, but At some point, they're going to end up working together, and it took a season to get there for them. But they had an issue on the hand, and like you said, they just couldn't do it by themselves. So they need all the help that they can get, and it just made sense to try to get somebody who, appears to be on their side, you know, we know is on their side, but, and I guess at some point they kind of became comfortable.
00:14:24
Speaker 1: And realizing that he was on their side as well.
00:14:27
Speaker 5: So let's enlist all the help we can get in order to, to take care of the main threat that we're dealing with. So, um, so yeah, it's just, we finally got to where we normally see Batman and that's him working with the commissioner.
00:14:43
Speaker 3: Jay was, is this the most corrupt version of Gotham city? you've seen in a series?
00:14:50
Speaker 1: In a series?
00:14:53
Speaker 2: I don't know.
00:14:54
Speaker 4: Cause I didn't finish watching the Gotham series. And I feel like that one probably, it had to, it had to deal with corruption. I watched the first season and a half and it deal with, it dealt with more on the ground level and like a lot of the corruption.
00:15:05
Speaker 1: That was going on.
00:15:07
Speaker 2: It didn't have Batman in it, but it, it focused on Gotham.
00:15:12
Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, I think about The Batman, the corruption wasn't as heavy there. It was more fantastical. Brave and the Bold didn't have any real Gotham in it. So yeah, if you do animated series, yes. For what I've seen, yes, it's the most corrupt. The most corrupt. That's what I was going off of, yeah. But I mean, it's more dope than those other ones too. Those ones are made basically for Cartoon Network.
00:15:38
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? This one here is on Prime Video where they can go there and give....
00:15:44
Speaker 4: The example has been set through animated shows like Invincible where you can have adult themes and people still tune in. It doesn't have to just be made for kids. It can be made for adults. But this is definitely the most corrupt one that I've seen so far.
00:16:00
Speaker 3: We then move on to the next episode where we learn after repeated attacks on Triad Industries that we get a black woman who's not only intelligent, smart, and on her Tony Stark stuff, but she's getting, as normal, the opposition is the white man. And Batman goes undercover as Bruce to investigate this. The black woman that I'm talking about, her name is Dr. Roxanne Sutton. And the corrupt white man that she's dealing with is Warren Lawford, head scientist, Armin Lidecker, and the security chief that they got, Gunther Hardwick. where they're all trying to basically, they try to kill her just so they can steal her ideas and sell them on the black market.
00:16:51
Speaker 2: Ken, what did you think about this episode specifically?
00:16:54
Speaker 3: Because I felt like this was, again, we're in an animated series, so again, kind of like X-Men 97, we'll kind of do certain side stories randomly.
00:17:02
Speaker 2: But I felt like this was interesting because.
00:17:04
Speaker 3: This has shown a lot of range as far as the characters in Gotham City.
00:17:11
Speaker 1: It did stand out.
00:17:12
Speaker 5: To me, mainly because it was a black woman who created this invention and got it stolen from her by white people. And to do so, they decided to kill her. And she was seeking vengeance. And it put Batman in a situation where he was trying to stop two people, her and the people that were actually responsible for her perceived death at the time. Um, so I was, I was trying to not watch this through a racial lens, but.
00:17:46
Speaker 1: You know, it's difficult. We in America, man.
00:17:48
Speaker 2: It was, it was real difficult for me too.
00:17:50
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:17:51
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:17:52
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:17:53
Speaker 5: Um, but yeah, I mean, she, she knew her shit and, and she was on top of a game to the point where she even designed a whole suit and means to sabotage them from using her work for, uh, reasons that she didn't intend.
00:18:12
Speaker 1: So I really enjoy that.
00:18:15
Speaker 5: I didn't enjoy, and I hope she isn't, but in this show, more than likely she is dead, you know, the ending, but, um, but even if she is, you know, she, she was kind of content with that.
00:18:28
Speaker 1: Plus half her face was gone.
00:18:30
Speaker 2: So she probably was like, it's a wrap anyway.
00:18:33
Speaker 5: I have a lot of incentive there, but, uh, but nah, man, this, this one was, this one was, this one was enjoyable.
00:18:40
Speaker 1: What were your.
00:18:41
Speaker 2: Thoughts on this Jay especially.
00:18:43
Speaker 3: Because for me it was like how was Bruce going to I was expecting a lot from Bruce in this episode as far as like how is he going to handle the legacy of this one.
00:19:02
Speaker 4: I can't say I was expecting too much right here because this is a character that came up before I've never heard of this character before, so that's why I was so fascinated.
00:19:15
Speaker 2: I was like, why are they even doing a character?
00:19:18
Speaker 3: It wasn't even a reiteration of another character. Again, I'm well-versed in Batman, but not to this extent if they're pulling out of deep lore and stuff like that.
00:19:27
Speaker 1: Exactly.
00:19:28
Speaker 4: For me, I didn't have any true expectation of this character.
00:19:32
Speaker 2: I was more so just trying to figure out who it was.
00:19:35
Speaker 4: As we've seen in season one, they've changed genders. They've changed different backstories in a way for the characters that they had. So maybe I thought to myself, I'm not familiar with the character, or it could be a brand new character. So I didn't have any expectation, but overall, um, her being vengeful because of, um, things being taken from her. Like Ken said, you try to take the racial, actually, I don't, I'm English. I don't take racial shit out of nothing to shit. They don't take racial shit out of anything. Um, But that's what I was connecting to it the most about is that this black woman got her work stole from her. And I wanted her to get her get back.
00:20:20
Speaker 2: That's all.
00:20:21
Speaker 4: That's all I felt in this moment was like, let the black woman get her get back. And I want her to get it as much as she can. But as far as the character itself, I didn't really have any true attachment outside of that piece because I didn't know who this character was.
00:20:33
Speaker 2: So I was just along for the ride. Yeah, I was.
00:20:37
Speaker 3: I was happy that he at least gave her like, what was it? He built the compound in her name or something like that. Because even Alfred was like, bro, like the stuff that she designed, if these were in the right hands, they could really help the world. And that's what I was thinking he was going to go like in like a pseudo Tony Stark's kind of way. I'm going to turn my weapons into like or use my technology to help people than hurt people. Um, but I, but I also respect the fact that he was like, nah, bro, we can't give this to nobody. So we gonna burn it, but I'm gonna build like everything that she had. I'm gonna build a compound. Her name is going to be on it. And people, that's where her legacy is going to be the scholarship foundation for upcoming scientists.
00:21:15
Speaker 2: So I really appreciated that.
00:21:16
Speaker 3: But I did find that interesting that they would use a story that can be racially, easily racially tied to like how the work of black people, specifically black women in STEM, um, can be corrupted and taken advantage of. So I, I thought, again, I may be goofy hat on type shit, thinking too deeply on it, but I thought it was very interesting.
00:21:36
Speaker 6: It's interesting. They also introduced Lucas Fox here too, though. So like, he was in the first season. He was in the first season too. i can't remember because he was always like.
00:21:46
Speaker 3: He was lightly i think uh from what i remember he was lightly in the first season was like bro he's somebody that is a confidant of bruce and helps him deal with like so he was just like how he was this season i think he was only in like what one or two episodes of that um and had a few scenes.
00:22:01
Speaker 4: But they used them they used them effectively they knew what they were doing by putting him in the scene and introducing him to also her you know what i'm saying yeah so that that was a good little little nugget If you would love to have more content from Frames Per Second, become a patron where you can contribute to what we review and discuss. 00:23:00
Speaker 3: One of Thorne's henchmen outside of the Riddler, his name is Desmond.
00:23:06
Speaker 2: And he's somebody who's eating no snitching.
00:23:10
Speaker 3: Uh but he also is someone that doesn't really rock with everything that riddler's doing and he ends up getting locked up again he's not a snitch so he's just doing his time and batman as batman was like listen i gotta i gotta know who this guy riddler is and what he's about so let me go undercover as somebody else what was his name matches malone and see what he's about and we don't really i think even in the animated, the original animated series, he did this like one or two times or like, this is a theme that Batman does every now and then he'll take on identity of someone else outside of Batman to do some investigating stuff.
00:23:44
Speaker 2: What did you think about this episode?
00:23:48
Speaker 1: I didn't like this one as much as some of the other ones.
00:23:51
Speaker 5: Um, you know, we've, I mean, you just mentioned, we've seen this story before this is Escapade before.
00:23:57
Speaker 1: So, um, you just have to kind of buy into a lot of things.
00:24:01
Speaker 5: He's going to go in there and, And this guy that's not a snitch is going to find a way to become friends with him, help him get out. And I did like the escape, but get out and then, you know, take him and meet the boss. So it's a story told this type of story and this very similar ways have been.
00:24:23
Speaker 1: Told over and over again. But what I did like, was that the Riddler just didn't give a fuck.
00:24:29
Speaker 5: So that was the one that sealed it for me. I was like, I'm really fucking with the Riddler. Yeah, he was really.
00:24:42
Speaker 1: Winning me over.
00:24:43
Speaker 5: So I did enjoy that because I was wondering.
00:24:45
Speaker 1: I was like, okay, so what's going to.
00:24:47
Speaker 5: Happen when he tries to introduce him to, you know, Matches.
00:24:53
Speaker 1: Malone, a.k.a. Batman? And we got to answer. Hey, well, shit.
00:25:00
Speaker 2: Desmond got the answer.
00:25:01
Speaker 3: Hey, Jay, it was funny to me, but it was probably meant to be a serious moment. After a really shot Desmond, Batman came over to.
00:25:12
Speaker 1: Him.
00:25:13
Speaker 3: Then I think Desmond, he put two and two together and figured out that matches was Batman.
00:25:17
Speaker 2: He was like, damn. I guess my only friend in the world was Batman. He just died.
00:25:22
Speaker 3: I was like, I don't know if this is meant to be deep, but it was funny as hell to me. Cause I was like, that's crazy to have those real last words.
00:25:30
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:25:31
Speaker 4: I mean, it's, it's, it was, and I don't know how I felt about that. Cause it's like, it's like such a pull and tug when Batman does things like this. It's like, all right, it's Bruce Wayne, nigga, who don't know your face? Like nigga, you, you a playboy, you a billionaire. Like you, you damn, you supposed to be Elon Musk basically, nigga. Like, that's who you're supposed to be. But you can go undercover with just some glasses, nigga.
00:25:54
Speaker 1: And a mustache.
00:25:55
Speaker 2: It worked for Superman for, what, how many years? We're going on, like, 70 years? I guess, man. I get it.
00:26:01
Speaker 4: But, I mean, you're in prison. You can't keep them shits on the whole time.
00:26:04
Speaker 2: I get it. I get it. It's supposed to be a thing.
00:26:07
Speaker 4: But that and then him figuring out his identity just because he started talking to him.
00:26:14
Speaker 2: I don't know.
00:26:14
Speaker 4: It's one of those things where it makes sense, but it don't make sense.
00:26:17
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Like you said, with Superman.
00:26:19
Speaker 4: So sometimes it takes me out of the episodes where it's like, all right, that's cool.
00:26:24
Speaker 2: It really ain't if I sit here and think too hard about it.
00:26:27
Speaker 4: But I see your point with it being funny as far as like, damn, my only true friend that I ever had who really rolled for me is.
00:26:35
Speaker 2: Batman, the nigga we was fighting against the whole entire time. That's a way to die.
00:26:40
Speaker 1: That's a weird way to go out, but.
00:26:44
Speaker 2: Overall, this was still a good episode. This didn't take away from the season at all for me.
00:26:48
Speaker 4: It wasn't as good as the one before or what we were getting, but it was still fun. Again, this was good because it kept showing how ruthless Riddler was. Riddler didn't waste no time. He's like, oh, this your friend? This who you met in jail?
00:27:02
Speaker 2: I don't know this nigga.
00:27:03
Speaker 4: This nigga gold. I fuck with that kind of energy. He your friend.
00:27:07
Speaker 2: He ain't my friend, nigga. You ain't got to tell me about Riddler.
00:27:12
Speaker 3: I can't wait till we get to the episode of what shit really popped off. But I want to get these two episodes out the way because I felt like they touched on this last season with, like you mentioned, Jay, it's an animated show.
00:27:23
Speaker 1: It's Batman.
00:27:24
Speaker 3: It's going to get fantastical. And we get two fantastical episodes, I feel like, back to back with the.
00:27:32
Speaker 2: Who was it?
00:27:34
Speaker 3: The small-time robber who's beaten and killed by someone who appears to be Batman. And we kind of go into the... that cult, what was it called? The Bat Cult and stuff like that. And they bring up the black dude from last season who was like into magic and all that stuff. And then I think we follow that up with the guy that betrayed Barbara.
00:27:54
Speaker 2: Last season and they went to jail.
00:27:56
Speaker 3: Then he ended up dying because he took that experimental prison thing where they electrocuted him to death and try to see if they can revive him and stuff like that. And he came back as, but in the comics, I believe it's the Spectre, but he was this version of that. To me, this was like, all right, bro, we ain't need daughters. We could have either cut the season or done other characters. What did y'all find out about these two mythological, extra, I should say not mythological, just supernatural episodes of the series?
00:28:31
Speaker 5: The one with the cult, it was just kind of like a one-off. But I did enjoy it. And not like from... I guess I enjoyed the ending. Because when he was discovered and he found out he tried to buy Bruce Wayne or Batman, he was like, look, man, we can split this whole cult if you want to. I thought that that was funny, trying to buy his way out of it. But the part I enjoyed the most was when old girl came back from behind and just stabbed the shit out of him and killed him. I was like, yo, this show is crazy. So y'all helped me. Did they have a lot of blood and stuff like that.
00:29:23
Speaker 2: In the first season?
00:29:26
Speaker 1: Not that I remember.
00:29:28
Speaker 3: Not that I really remember. What I remember it was like the conversations were more dark. Remember that scene that we made fun of when uh bruce as a kid busted through alfred's door and was.
00:29:41
Speaker 2: Like hey bro we gotta make them all pay okay.
00:29:44
Speaker 3: What we get like and he's like a 10 year old kid saying this at 2 a.m i'm like bro this is a bruce a side of bruce that we never seen because they always gloss over the fact of like his childhood and the trauma that he went through and they kind of just kind of rushed to like him being an adult and like training as to become Batman, but seeing him in that like child state and having those dark, dark thoughts early on, it was like, okay, this is a different series. And then, um, I think for the other part that I really just remember, which is kind of like how they're changing up the, the way we view characters. I don't remember too much blood this season was bloody as hell.
00:30:20
Speaker 2: So I agree with you on that. Yeah.
00:30:23
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:30:24
Speaker 5: Which I appreciated them doing that. But yeah, I did not expect that guy to die. I just knew he was going to jail. Yeah, it seemed like it.
00:30:36
Speaker 2: And it was creepy, Jay. I don't know if you got this too.
00:30:38
Speaker 3: When she was just like, she did that because she was like, oh, the thing that I've been believing in for so long, it has to be real. I can't believe that I just got duped by this white man who just wanted our money and just wanted to collect all these jewels. and not it be actually something that was meant to kind of help redeem me. Cause I think she was like going through some stuff and like, she needed this cult to kind of save her. And like, it's the way she was. And the way she was talking to them. So it was like real creepy because it was sad.
00:31:06
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:31:08
Speaker 4: This is, this is one of the parts was like more adult themes, especially, especially cause people can give themselves to like these coats because they need something to believe in.
00:31:18
Speaker 2: And you could tell that's something that she really needs. She needed it.
00:31:21
Speaker 4: Like, Yes, she felt betrayed, but she felt betrayed by, like, not the idea or the religion of the cult, but more so by the person.
00:31:33
Speaker 2: But she still believed in this idea.
00:31:35
Speaker 4: Like you said, that was the creepy part about it is that you didn't just see that this whole shit was a lie, that you still believe in this, but she just needed that thing to believe in. And because it was attached to Batman, with Batman being, like, the deity or the.
00:31:53
Speaker 4: Basically the jesus of the religion like he still exists he ain't going nowhere it's like it's like being in the church jesus still exists but the pastor just fucked up so i can still believe in jesus it's just fuck the pastor i'll just go to another church and that's how she but it's still creepy because it's like you don't see how this person prayed on you to make you believe in this um but yeah this was this was a real dope episode i didn't think were going to do this and i thought maybe they was hitting at the court of uh owls yeah.
00:32:22
Speaker 3: I thought i thought that's what it was going to lean into because i was like this is dope but then it was just this goofy stuff because like that black kid pissed me off bro i hated how he got taken out too bro i mean this is still this is awesome i.
00:32:44
Speaker 4: I think the way that nigga took that money, he was trying to run through the sewer.
00:32:48
Speaker 1: That shit was damn funny.
00:32:49
Speaker 2: He was awesome. He was awesome. Alternative Shawshank. He said, I got 10 million.
00:32:57
Speaker 3: Would you go through the sewer if you could get 10 million dollars at the other end?
00:33:01
Speaker 2: I might, Ken. I might. I ain't on mic, nigga. I'm making it happen, bro. 10 million to go through this... Hold on, never mind.
00:33:07
Speaker 1: It's the sewer, bro.
00:33:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, this is Gotham City sewer. You can run up to Killer Croc and do that. Yeah, you right.
00:33:12
Speaker 1: You right.
00:33:13
Speaker 4: But that tell you how scummy a nigga he was to go through the fucking sewer, bro.
00:33:17
Speaker 2: You ain't tell me, bro. When he killed the black kid just because he questioned him.
00:33:21
Speaker 1: I was like, oh, he was scummy.
00:33:25
Speaker 2: What about the other episode, Jay? What did you think about the.
00:33:29
Speaker 2: What was it? The Spectre episode where the.
00:33:32
Speaker 3: Barbara's former colleague, who's a cop, how he died and came back to life and started killing everybody that he was associated with that got away.
00:33:44
Speaker 4: I thought this was a good episode. I think the ending is what sealed it for me, that it was a real good episode. Obviously, he's going on a kill spree, killing everybody. You think he's going to kill Barbara, too, because she was a part of the investigation, everything that went on. But he basically asked her for forgiveness. He wants her to forgive him.
00:34:10
Speaker 2: Did Barbara forgive him, though? I don't think she did. Maybe with her eyes. She didn't say anything. I think she was more shocked than anything. He dies right there.
00:34:20
Speaker 4: I guess that's going to be his thing. I took it as he still got to carry it to the afterlife.
00:34:27
Speaker 3: When you were just saying it, I was thinking maybe he didn't need her answer. He just wanted her to know that's all that I need. Like that was, those are my last thoughts. Like after everything that's been happening between us, which is funny because it was like, why did you betray in the first place? If you, you want to come, you want to come back from the dead just, just to make amends when you could have just lived and been fine.
00:34:47
Speaker 2: But I guess that's life. And death. Um, but, I don't know. I looked at it a little bit. I get your point.
00:34:56
Speaker 4: I took it as he doesn't really get forgiveness, even though he did all this to ask for that forgiveness.
00:35:03
Speaker 2: He still did a lot.
00:35:04
Speaker 4: Of bullshit in between that, and he still got to pay for that. He doesn't really get to rest, you know what I'm saying, with forgiveness. He still got to carry that to wherever else. Barbara gets to live with the fact of, oh, this person wanted forgiveness from me, so it gives her a little bit more closure, but he doesn't really get it.
00:35:20
Speaker 2: So that's why I was like, it sealed it for me. It's like, oh, damn, he got to kind of carry that shit on.
00:35:25
Speaker 4: That's all I was going to ask y'all. I wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong when I was thinking, did she forgive him? I don't think she, but I'm pretty sure she did.
00:35:32
Speaker 2: What about you, Ken?
00:35:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought this one was fine.
00:35:40
Speaker 5: He definitely suffered a lot when that shit didn't... Hey, when it didn't work. Yeah, he went through hell. But overall, yeah, I thought it was fine. I don't really remember too, too much about this one. I just remember it running around just killing folks.
00:35:59
Speaker 1: And that's about it.
00:36:03
Speaker 3: Well, the next one, the next episode kind of talks about what we were talking about earlier with like the fear toxin.
00:36:09
Speaker 2: So I guess like Scarecrow kind of had his.
00:36:12
Speaker 3: Arc this season because even though Hugo Strange died, we see that there was a string of deaths on Gotham City, Gotham University campus. All the victims were screaming about all the fears that they had of dying for it. And this is where we see Montoya revealed that she's been hiding Harley Quinn or Harleen Quinzel in her apartment.
00:36:36
Speaker 2: This is the goofy part about.
00:36:37
Speaker 1: This show, Kim.
00:36:39
Speaker 3: It's like, so the most wanted woman in the city. It's just, it's on temp street.
00:36:46
Speaker 2: It's shagging up with a cop. Yeah, it's shagging up with a cop.
00:36:48
Speaker 3: A cop that's supposed to have all these morals and integrity and all that. But when, hey, Jay, when it come to pussy though, we toss all that out the window. I don't care what creed or color or gender you are, but this, this was interesting.
00:37:01
Speaker 1: This crazy ones.
00:37:02
Speaker 3: Hey, You don't get more crazy than Harleen.
00:37:06
Speaker 1: Exactly.
00:37:07
Speaker 2: That's why she in the apartment, Nick.
00:37:10
Speaker 1: I respect it.
00:37:11
Speaker 2: I respect it.
00:37:12
Speaker 3: Hey, Montoya had to put her on lock now, too. She's like, listen, you can't go nowhere but the bedroom and the kitchen.
00:37:20
Speaker 4: And honestly, the more I think about it, it probably wasn't because of the cop situation.
00:37:23
Speaker 2: I don't want nobody else near you. Like, you can't go by the window. Don't let nobody see you in there. What did you think about this episode, Kev?
00:37:32
Speaker 5: I did enjoy this episode. Um, I do remember this one cause, uh, cause she sat down and had that.
00:37:38
Speaker 1: Whole meeting with, uh, Barbara.
00:37:41
Speaker 5: Barbara's like, yeah, I got a feeling she's still alive though. It's something, something just bugging me to say shit. And she's sitting up in her damn apartment and, uh, on lockdown. And I knew she was going to fall asleep when she went in there. Uh, that's typical. Um, and then she, broke out to go figure out who it was. But what I liked about this one though, was the misdirection. Cause they got me like, I did think it was a professor.
00:38:11
Speaker 1: Me too. I was just about to say that. Yeah. Yeah.
00:38:15
Speaker 5: So when that shit was that damn student crane junior, I was like, Oh, wait a minute.
00:38:21
Speaker 1: That's pretty damn dope. Um, so yeah, yeah. I enjoyed how they did this one.
00:38:27
Speaker 5: Cause he had people, uh, messing themselves up, scratching and spiders and seeing all kinds of shit. Now Batman got over his shit a little too easy with his no fear, no fear shit and jumping out the window.
00:38:38
Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. That shit, yeah, that shit, that kind of bothered me. But how?
00:38:42
Speaker 3: Because I'm thinking, again, this iteration, he been crazy.
00:38:46
Speaker 2: Like he, what, this goes back to the, uh, our lantern reviews.
00:38:51
Speaker 3: Remember when Hal Jordan said, like, once you lose a parent, what else do you have to fear or something like that?
00:38:58
Speaker 2: I feel like they used.
00:39:00
Speaker 3: It must have been a similar writer's room because they just went to the extreme because obviously we had a whole first season about how Bruce is really still messed up about his parents dying in front of him.
00:39:11
Speaker 2: So when someone shows him a fear, what could he be afraid of?
00:39:14
Speaker 4: I mean, I think a part of his fear is for Batman, there's the loneliness.
00:39:22
Speaker 2: Aspect of it. There's just this feel of not being... It sounds weird.
00:39:26
Speaker 4: But the truth is like not not being enough like i don't i think there's still things they could have used but this just seemed like it was just too easy for him bro you could be like even the craziest person has fears bro like that's part of the reason what drives like motivates them to do what they do but see so what i thought originally when we see what his fear is that like no matter what he does gotham will still be in ruins even even as he ages like no matter how long he's been at the job gotham will never be safe i thought that's what his fear but then when he was just like he was like oh.
00:40:02
Speaker 3: If the city messed up i'm jumping out the window no matter what going on i was like oh he's just insane like to be honest like again Batman is an insane man.
00:40:13
Speaker 2: Like as much as we respect them and as much as we like kind of adorn the things that he represents and who he is, he's still an insane man. And I think that's why he fits the city so much. Cause it's like, bro, who else would do this?
00:40:27
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:40:28
Speaker 2: I mean, that's not, that's not wrong.
00:40:30
Speaker 4: And I definitely think he is insane in his own way. And I think he knows that too. That's why the, the, no kill line is for him because it's like to him, it makes him feel like he's more moral in.
00:40:42
Speaker 2: His insane, in his insanity than everybody else. You know what I'm saying? And I think those are different fears that you could use.
00:40:48
Speaker 4: Like, like the, the feeling of him, like you said, not being able to save Gotham, which at the end of the day, you never go like all these years of fighting and you still ain't saved. It's just still fucked up. It's going to stay fucked up. So like, like, I mean, there's a lot of ways they could have attacked this, and they really didn't. And that's what was disappointing about that part of it. I was like, that was pretty quick for him to get over that fear toxin that fast.
00:41:17
Speaker 2: I wanted him to have a true struggle, but he didn't.
00:41:21
Speaker 4: But also, I don't know if I was a fan of him and Harleen teaming up to do detective work.
00:41:29
Speaker 2: I wasn't the biggest fan of that.
00:41:31
Speaker 4: And I think that's more of my attachment to Harley Quinn being.
00:41:40
Speaker 2: A more sane Joker. You know what I'm saying?
00:41:47
Speaker 4: And obviously be another iteration of the Joker in this season. But it just don't seem like something she would completely do unless she was completely. I'm trying to remember now.
00:41:58
Speaker 2: What was the motivation for her helping him? Well, she just wanted to get out the house. Exactly.
00:42:03
Speaker 3: Get noticed for being in a marriage.
00:42:06
Speaker 2: Sometimes they just want to get out the house. No matter what they got going on, they just want to go outside. That's what I'm saying.
00:42:12
Speaker 4: It wasn't no true motivation for her to be working with Batman after Batman was just an enemy.
00:42:16
Speaker 3: Batman is the reason why you're stuck in this house. She still wants to do... She's still an intelligent being. And one, she wanted to get out of the house. Two, she still wants to work on cases. She was always like, kind of talking to herself in the house, like, all right, if I was on this case, how would I break down this person? How would I break down, like, she kept on doing her, like, her analysis on all these crazy individuals.
00:42:38
Speaker 2: And that's kind of what turns her on, too.
00:42:40
Speaker 3: Like, that's her, that's her, that's what gets her going. And I feel like, again, both people who have insane mentalities in a, but trying to, like you said, keep a sane personality at the forefront, they would link up together. And I also think, Ken, I don't know if you agree with this or not, They're trying to inch towards like, how do we introduce Robin and anybody else he works with in this world if we.
00:43:05
Speaker 2: Keep showing him as somebody who don't like working with people?
00:43:08
Speaker 3: And we got him working with a lot of people this season, more than last season. He went back to the Black Witch Doctor. He's working with Harleen. We, of course, get to the Goofy Kid later on. But it's like he's opening himself up more to having a partner. And that was like maybe how they were tying in. Like, why is he working with Harleen? Because he's trying to, you know, He can't do everything. He can't think of everything. He is intelligent, but he ain't the smartest man in the world.
00:43:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, but I am with Jalen in that it did seem odd that a person that's on the run from the cops will become your partner. Because I don't know if he really needed her, even though she said that she did. But either way I go, I mean, I think if that's what they're trying to convince us about, then I guess it worked. Cause he, he, he did end up working with a lot of people, but I also think that I ain't going to.
00:44:08
Speaker 1: Say this Batman wasn't really good at his job.
00:44:10
Speaker 5: But he let a lot of people die and didn't really care.
00:44:15
Speaker 2: He's at the end of the day, Batman.
00:44:19
Speaker 3: Hey kid, listen, When it comes to basketball, you know what they always say, to average, what, 20 points a game, you just got to get five every quarter.
00:44:33
Speaker 2: He got 20 every fourth quarter.
00:44:35
Speaker 1: That's what it was.
00:44:37
Speaker 3: Because he was, he ain't show up for the first half, second half of some of these games until the last play. I was like, all right, well, in the newspapers, they're going to say Batman defeated what's today. But for us watching, it was like, oh, bro, that was too close for comfort.
00:44:53
Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
00:44:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, because that girl, remember the girl, because he saved, I think he saved Harley, and he let that girl jump out the damn window.
00:45:04
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, when the scary stuff was going on, the girl, like, I was like, yeah, like, I was like, bro, take care of her.
00:45:09
Speaker 2: Harley's cool in the corner. She about to drink the milk. I was like, man. Yeah, that threw me off.
00:45:18
Speaker 4: A lot of people died on this Batman watch, boy.
00:45:21
Speaker 1: This is insane, bro.
00:45:23
Speaker 3: Hey, but at the same time, you can't save them all. What they say about every superhero, they got to learn how to deal with that. I can't save them all. Speaking of somebody also being saved, we see in the next episode, the Riddler gunned down... what's his name, Phil Forrest, the flower cop, the former cop who owns the flower shop, in front of.
00:45:49
Speaker 2: His daughter, Rose.
00:45:51
Speaker 3: And then this caused Rose to have a mental breakdown. First of all, Ken, he was talking to his daughter crazy, like, all right, now your mama was crazy. You need to stay off that mess. Especially if you go work with me at this shop. Then he ended up dying. She got a mental breakdown, and it's becoming what we know as Poison Ivy.
00:46:07
Speaker 5: What you think about this episode, Ken? Well, I think she's supposed to be a a different character. Thorn and not Poison Ivy. So I don't know what they're doing there because I was for sure for certain that that was Poison Ivy.
00:46:24
Speaker 1: But either way I go, Thorn slash Poison Ivy.
00:46:28
Speaker 5: I really like this episode because of the ending because that shit shocked the shit out of me.
00:46:35
Speaker 1: I did not see that happening at all. But she played the fuck out of it.
00:46:41
Speaker 5: Hey bro he fell for it i mean she walked him all the way through from the moment she walked in the club she went all his best spots they went on these damn crime sprees together all just to set up this trap man when a woman's fed up nick.
00:47:01
Speaker 2: Hey bro hey shit Hey, they say, well, Andre St. Rose would smell like boo-boo. It's going to look good. Don't be good.
00:47:11
Speaker 3: What do you think about this episode, Jay?
00:47:14
Speaker 4: Man, I fuck with her playing the long game, bro. Made that nigga get nice and comfortable, bro. Even told his main chick, listen, all that rah-rah shit you talking about, I don't even care about that nigga like that. I'm going to get what I need. The main thought was like, You just decide. Use the side piece.
00:47:31
Speaker 2: I ain't going to worry about you. But nah, she played the long game. And I respect it, for real, for real. Like, she had a goal.
00:47:37
Speaker 1: She sat there.
00:47:38
Speaker 4: She proved her loyalty. She did all that just to get that nigga nice and comfortable. Just to take that nigga out.
00:47:44
Speaker 1: Like.
00:47:44
Speaker 3: Hey, I'll say this, though, Jay. Riddler must have been slanging it. Cause the main chick was that ride or die for him until the end. She was even, she was even popping that Batman and crying at the end of it.
00:47:59
Speaker 2: How did I lose him?
00:48:00
Speaker 3: How did I was like, this really, he gave him crosswords to everybody.
00:48:05
Speaker 4: Hey man, nigga was catching bodies in front of her and she still was just holding it down with no fear.
00:48:10
Speaker 2: Didn't care at all. Like that was her nigga. He's smacking her ass in front of everybody and everything. Is she happy? Giddy as hell?
00:48:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, when it was definitely, she was all for that nigga for sure.
00:48:25
Speaker 3: The ending though, Ken, you right, bro. That ending, I didn't think that was going to kill him off like that. I'm thinking somebody's going to crash in. Again, I'm thinking, where is Batman? Whenever I witness a crime in Gotham, I'm like, where is Batman? Especially in this episode. Like, you're still young, Batman. You're supposed to have your best legs, you know what I'm saying? The most stamina. You should be running around this city twice.
00:48:48
Speaker 2: Over, at least.
00:48:50
Speaker 1: But when she popped up, she escaped.
00:48:54
Speaker 3: She took the Metro North to New York.
00:48:59
Speaker 5: It was.
00:49:00
Speaker 2: But I guess she's going to come back.
00:49:02
Speaker 3: That's the thing I remember from the animated show, Jalen, is that even when they do, like, Villain Orange's stories, like, they give them an out to where, like, they can return. They didn't even need Superman, the animated series, too. The villains that they were creating, they always gave you out.
00:49:17
Speaker 2: They may be back.
00:49:18
Speaker 3: So I think the fact that she finished her arc redeeming her former self, now she's going to be Thorn, Ivy, whatever you call it, moving forward if we see her in season three.
00:49:31
Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, we may get it. I hope she comes back like how they did Harleen.
00:49:36
Speaker 1: Like, she had it.
00:49:37
Speaker 4: You got the backstory, but hopefully they give her something better than what they gave Harleen this season because that shit there, bro.
00:49:43
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
00:49:43
Speaker 2: That's what I mean. We're going to gloss it over. How you get arrested on ice skates, bro?
00:49:48
Speaker 1: Come on.
00:49:49
Speaker 4: That's the way they broke up. The way they broke up was trash, too. I was like, man, okay. Let's just move on to the next episode. Next episode, we got Carrie Kelly, who's an orphan girl.
00:50:05
Speaker 3: That lives with black parents can we over here trying to save the world once again um and the uh the patrol man who uh flashed through under the bus or he was a good detective now he just a patrol man is on her ass every day because she a orphan he'll like broke kids um.
00:50:25
Speaker 5: And you don't want to do that job either He didn't want to do that job. Man, he been begging this black man to get his job back.
00:50:34
Speaker 3: I was smiling every time the black man smiled because that's how they do us. He getting that same treatment we've been getting for 400 years. What did y'all think about this episode? Because we also get an introduction to our version of, well, his name was Mr. Zero, but I feel like he's supposed to be Mr.
00:50:51
Speaker 1: Freeze.
00:50:53
Speaker 2: What was your thoughts on this episode? Um, this one was fine.
00:50:58
Speaker 5: Um, you know, I, I'm trying to figure out, I guess, is this kid supposed to be Robin? So I, I was assuming that was the purpose of it, but I did like the new villain.
00:51:09
Speaker 1: That they, they introduced. I thought it was going to be bang, bang at first.
00:51:15
Speaker 5: Um, but yeah, it, it, it wasn't, but yeah, he, he, he, he appeared to be pretty ruthless as well, but, that little bad-ass kid need to go sit down somewhere. Uh, just running around trying to commit crime and getting in the way. And then Batman talking about, you saved my life at the end, which, you know, of course, yeah, I get it, but still, um, but overall I think it was fine. And I think to your point earlier, it was just them trying to find a way to introduce the idea of Batman working with Robin or setting us up for.
00:51:46
Speaker 3: Robin, whatever Robin comes around. Jay, what were your thoughts? Cause I feel like last season, um, They introduced... There was that orphan episode with the little girl who.
00:51:56
Speaker 2: In the carnival? Yeah, yeah.
00:51:58
Speaker 3: And they named all the Robins that were in the comics in one room as orphans or whatever. So I thought that's how they got it out of the way. So I was surprised to see Carrie. Because I'm not sure... Was she the spoiler in the comic books?
00:52:10
Speaker 2: Or was that somebody... I can't remember. You about right.
00:52:13
Speaker 4: It's somebody who's not as big. And it's not a Robin character.
00:52:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not a Robin, but it's Robin-like. Yeah. Yeah.
00:52:20
Speaker 6: Um.
00:52:22
Speaker 1: I didn't really care.
00:52:23
Speaker 4: It was a good episode, but as far as me being attached to it, I didn't care.
00:52:27
Speaker 2: I was like, all right, man. But the reason why.
00:52:30
Speaker 4: This episode does get a slide, though, is because of the next episode. But the kid part of it, just them realizing, oh, I ain't really built for this shit.
00:52:39
Speaker 2: I appreciate that.
00:52:40
Speaker 4: They make Robin seem like he was built for it from day one, but this one reminds you, nah, there's some kids out there who realize this shit ain't just fun and games. I'm supposed to keep my ass in the house. That's a more grounded approach to this.
00:52:53
Speaker 2: And Batman is still... Batman is really fucked up, right? He is not... And I'm mad you got me saying fucked up like that, too. Because he is. Because he is. You speak it from the heart. That's what I always wanted you to say.
00:53:08
Speaker 3: But.
00:53:09
Speaker 4: he's fucked up and that's why it wouldn't make sense for him to have a Robin right now.
00:53:15
Speaker 2: Batman is always fucked up, but this one.
00:53:16
Speaker 4: Is really in a really bad spot as far as mentally and the Joker brings it out.
00:53:22
Speaker 2: You can definitely see it in this last episode too. This is reinforced. Yeah, I love how we.
00:53:27
Speaker 3: Ended this episode where Cus gets popped before he even says who he's working for. I love the fact that Batman, even though he was real blunt with how it's like to be a superhero in a city with Carrie.
00:53:42
Speaker 2: When she saw it for herself, she's like, yeah, I'm about to go back.
00:53:44
Speaker 3: It's actually better going back home to Jerome and.
00:53:47
Speaker 2: Louie than it is to be out in the streets with you. I'm taking my ass back to the crib.
00:53:54
Speaker 3: And she did him like how he'd be doing everybody where he just disappeared before they even finished their sentence.
00:53:58
Speaker 2: Because he ruined his hair. I like that part. Yeah, I like how she did that to him.
00:54:03
Speaker 3: But like you said, Jake, let's not bury the lead anymore because we're about to wrap up. There is a we ain't just get one joker episode joker was kind of sprinkled throughout this whole series like how marvel did thanos and now we get two back-to-back episodes where we get to see joker's big plan as he um makes a grand entrance to the city when he puts the fear toxin gas in the whole room where howdy uh tech her uh news show whatever um and she just ends up literally dying laughing what did you think about how we got introduced to this version of the joker this season and in these episodes jay.
00:54:39
Speaker 4: I like it fit perfect he came and just started taking things off the board like it's just like these toxins the toxin like the lab toxins that the way they showed it in these episodes was unsettling in the fact that.
00:54:57
Speaker 2: They were laughing longer than what we usually see.
00:54:59
Speaker 1: Exactly.
00:55:00
Speaker 2: They kept laughing. They kept laughing. It made you feel uncomfortable while you weren't like, damn. Bro, I almost cut it off.
00:55:06
Speaker 4: Bro, it makes you feel like you would hate to be stuck in that kind of like laughter. Like you ever, you ever, uh, I know like laugh. so hard where you can't stop laughing and it start to hurt.
00:55:17
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:55:17
Speaker 4: Like that was, it was like this, this painful. And I was like, damn, that shit looked like it hurt to be laughing.
00:55:24
Speaker 2: Cause then your vocal cords hurt everything. Yeah. Like, you know that.
00:55:28
Speaker 4: So when you watch the Joker over time, I guess you kind of get numb to the fact that.
00:55:31
Speaker 2: He does this, but they made.
00:55:33
Speaker 4: It seem unsettling. It made it seem like it was really a painful thing to happen. And then for the, for it to happen to, to Alfred, you know what I'm saying? Um, was even like another gut punch before we get to the last episode. So this episode here was definitely just giving us all the jokers. You know, you don't want to rely on him because we know he's the biggest Batman villain, but you also got to give him respect. And the way they did this season was perfect to give him these last two episodes and give us enough of him to still feel like, damn, this nigga was lingering the whole.
00:56:08
Speaker 2: Entire time, but the season didn't completely just focus on him. Ken, do you think he came and went?
00:56:16
Speaker 1: Um.
00:56:20
Speaker 2: Pause?
00:56:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, we did get... We did get, like.
00:56:26
Speaker 5: Two episodes with him, so I respected that they gave him room to kind of breathe, you know, because we had been watching him, and we were like, okay, where's the Joker?
00:56:40
Speaker 1: Where's the Joker?
00:56:40
Speaker 5: And then took out And when they took out the Rittler, you're like, okay, here comes the Joker. But the Joker, he didn't show up for a whole... It took a whole other episode for us to finally see him. But when he did show up, he brought some problems with him.
00:56:56
Speaker 1: And I agree with you, Jalen. This was the first time where I was looking at them laughing, and I believe that you can laugh from dying.
00:57:06
Speaker 2: I mean, you can die from laughing. Exactly.
00:57:08
Speaker 1: Yep.
00:57:09
Speaker 5: So, yeah, I was like, wow, I guess that can be a real thing.
00:57:14
Speaker 1: So I thought that that was dope.
00:57:16
Speaker 5: I like the voice actor, the mannerism and tone that he gave him when Batman showed up, walked through the door and tried to stop him.
00:57:26
Speaker 1: He was like, no.
00:57:27
Speaker 5: And then shot his ass with the damn shotgun. Batman didn't know what hit him. And then, of course, Alfred. That was touching as well because I thought it was a wrap for him.
00:57:40
Speaker 1: Me too. But no, Joker was dope.
00:57:44
Speaker 3: You wouldn't guess who the voice actor is for Joker. Neither one of y'all would guess. And this is coming off a show we just reviewed. He's one of the main characters of the show we just reviewed. House of the Dragon. You wouldn't guess which character is the one that does this Joker's voice.
00:58:00
Speaker 2: Matt Smith?
00:58:02
Speaker 1: Nah. Who is it?
00:58:07
Speaker 2: It's Lars. Lord Lars.
00:58:10
Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Yep.
00:58:13
Speaker 2: Lord Lars.
00:58:13
Speaker 1: He did it.
00:58:14
Speaker 3: And when I saw that, because I saw a clip. I was randomly on Instagram scrolling. I seen a clip of them doing the voice. I saw the guy who did Batman. He's from, if y'all watched the most recent season, the last season of Gen V. He was the main villain in Gen V.
00:58:29
Speaker 2: He also did his voice.
00:58:30
Speaker 3: So he did Batman's voice. So seeing dude do his voice, like, bro, that's what I wanted to talk about. Like, this Joker's voice, I mean, of course, we have the iconic Mark Hamill's voice as the animated Joker.
00:58:43
Speaker 2: But I like this voice.
00:58:45
Speaker 3: Like, I was calm. And then he didn't laugh until the end. Like, I was like, bro, I like this. Like, it's dark. It's like, bro, I'm not going to laugh all the time. He didn't even smile all the time. And literally until the end, like, his last laugh was the one that kind of let you know who he is. Because everybody else, bro, the way they were laughing, bro, I was watching with my girl. I almost want to cut it off because we just got done watching Ready or Not, Ken.
00:59:09
Speaker 2: I don't know if you.
00:59:10
Speaker 1: Watched Ready or Not. I haven't seen it yet.
00:59:13
Speaker 3: Bro, it goes in a direction where it's like, all right, bro, I got to say three Hail Marys before.
00:59:20
Speaker 2: I go to sleep.
00:59:21
Speaker 3: This way, it felt the same energy. It felt very demonic and creepy. It felt very like just devilish. Cause they kept laughing. And then when they turned into those creatures, like, I don't know what the hell he did. It was like, that was great. Then when it happened to Gordon and Gordon was trying to fight it.
00:59:40
Speaker 2: He was laughing. Get out.
00:59:42
Speaker 3: Like, Lee, like, it was very creepy. So I loved how they did the Joker storyline. And I liked the buildup because, like, every episode he was doing something. Like, he's the one who took out Hugo Strange. He was the one that took out Mr.
00:59:58
Speaker 1: Zero.
00:59:59
Speaker 3: Like, he was, like, taking people out. But he took out Thorne early on. Like, he was taking people out bit by bit as you were getting introduced to them. And he's ended up being a big bad. Now, I don't know if he died because, I mean, he did. It could be on some comic book shit where it's like, all right, just because he fall from 30,000 feet up in the air don't mean he ain't dead. But he ain't had no parachute, Ken. I don't know what the hell. He just had the trench coat and a gun.
01:00:23
Speaker 2: That was it.
01:00:24
Speaker 1: Yeah. Of course, he's still alive. But Batman damn sure didn't try to save him.
01:00:31
Speaker 2: He ain't save him. He had plenty of opportunity to do that, too.
01:00:35
Speaker 5: It seemed like he tried to kill him because I think he was the one that knocked the beams down.
01:00:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, and it stabbed him in the shoulder?
01:00:43
Speaker 5: Yeah.
01:00:43
Speaker 2: I mean, he could be dead.
01:00:45
Speaker 4: I mean, I think the Joker is always an easy way out of saying he inspired another Joker.
01:00:50
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? And that's always an easy way out. He does die. But, yeah. This is really dark, bro. I fuck with every bit of this. He didn't have to be over the top.
01:01:01
Speaker 4: He just had to be menacing and questioning everything about Batman at the same time.
01:01:05
Speaker 2: Making him question the shit, too.
01:01:06
Speaker 4: That's the main thing about The Joker is basically, he's supposed to be the opposite of Batman. Batman had one extremely bad day. He's just talking to Batman like, this, this, this.
01:01:21
Speaker 2: There's this shit in the well. This is in the well, and I'm.
01:01:24
Speaker 3: Excited for season three, for sure. Yeah, they got to have a season three. That's what I want to end this up with. this episode on. What are y'all thoughts on how season two ended, going into season three? Are we cooking? Has this season topped last season? And do you expect that going into the next one?
01:01:44
Speaker 4: Off the top of my head, I'm going to say it topped last season. And I'm doing this off of the ignorance of not re-watching season one. But I think I'm just a fan of the darkness of this, bro. How they just went there. You know what I'm saying? Like they lure they lure us in by giving us nostalgia and just having these little tweaks. But they completely like change your expectations in season two. And so I'm down for like whatever else they offer us moving forward.
01:02:11
Speaker 2: So, yeah, I'm excited for season three. What about you, Cam?
01:02:18
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I like the way they escalated the series.
01:02:23
Speaker 5: To this poem. So I'm all on board for what they're doing. So I'm game, man. I was really looking forward to talking about this with y'all because with how dark it was, because I just couldn't remember. And I remember when you guys said it was dark, but it also seemed like that's the word that's thrown around a lot.
01:02:51
Speaker 1: I was like, nah, this is legit.
01:02:56
Speaker 2: I think for my final thoughts on that, I'm excited about season three.
01:02:59
Speaker 3: I think they can do no wrong and I'm willing to kind of give up my expectations of what I believe should be Batman lore based off of how great they're writing this show. Um, but Ken, I think when me and JJ, you can correct me if I'm wrong. When we say it's dark, I think it's like as kids when we were watching it or as in our youth, We didn't pick up on certain things. I was like, oh, when you really think about that as an adult, that's actually kind of way more creepier for a kid's show than what we thought. Because this is on Saturday morning cartoons or Saturday night cartoon run for Cartoon Network.
01:03:30
Speaker 2: This is where they know their age range is 6 to 13 or whatever.
01:03:36
Speaker 3: But when we're talking about this show, hell, I ain't showing no 6 to 13 on this show. You got to be, at least in high school, deep in for us to be like, all right, bro, you can sit and watch this.
01:03:48
Speaker 4: Especially them last two episodes. My nephew, he's not watching this. My nephew or my niece is. They under 10 years old. I'm not putting this on. As much as I would like them to get in the comics, this is not the way I'm going to introduce it.
01:04:00
Speaker 2: This isn't the way.
01:04:00
Speaker 4: That's what we mean by dark as far as the themes are different. kid friendly you and if you watch it if you do a lot of high school to watch it you need to be there to explain some things you know what i'm saying just to give them like nuances of what's going on but yeah.
01:04:15
Speaker 2: That's that's that's what we mean by by darker.
01:04:23
Speaker 3: Yeah those are our thoughts on season two of batman the cape crusader please let us know what you guys think FPS Podcast is our Reddit thread. That's also our handle for IG and Twitter. And we are looking forward to reviewing Season.
01:04:36
Speaker 2: 3 when it drops. So we'll catch you then.
01:04:38
Speaker 1: Peace. Peace.
Peace.
