Speaker 1: Fam, it is Tuesday, it's Braun, it's Krats, it's Prazinski, and it is Luke Eric Day. So every year June second, when did they start this? I mean, I'm kind of spitballing here, but did they have this for you guys the whole run through, like in terms of doing a lot for it or no.
00:00:22
Speaker 2: No, I never hearing anything about this.
00:00:25
Speaker 3: Okay, Really.
00:00:28
Speaker 1: It's definitely hyped up a lot more recently, Kratz.
00:00:31
Speaker 2: I mean it definitely got bigger.
00:00:33
Speaker 1: Yes, red wrist band.
00:00:36
Speaker 2: I don't remember ever really.
00:00:38
Speaker 4: I mean there was you know, ALS Awareness Day or whatever, but it was never a big deal. It was just kind of okay, we didn't do anything special for it that I ever remember.
00:00:48
Speaker 5: Twenty twenty one, it says June second, twenty twenty one is when it started. But I was thinking I was going to say it started all the way back when I was with the Phillies, because but the Phillies the ownership like mister Montgomery and the I'm trying to think who the other partners were at the time, but I mean the Milton's were with it. They were very huge into ALS funding and research and all that stuff, and so I remember that. That's what we did it every every year all three years I played there. We had we had something significant, but I so I was way off. I thought we did I thought we did something.
00:01:24
Speaker 1: So it's you know, today is the day that Lou Garrig started his consecutive game streak and then also his passing from ALS. He passed away on this day. There's the four, the number four decals that'll be warned, so you'll you'll hear a lot throughout the day in games. We also have a show that focused on ALS awareness and its ties to baseball. Near and dear to the heart of the Kircheins. Tim lost his brother Matt from ALS. So here's a little clip from their latest episode.
00:01:58
Speaker 6: We go to Mount Sat Mary's that day. I'll never forget this the rest of my life. And when we get there, Ross gives Matt a ALS I mean a Catholic University jersey, says Cardinals cross the front and it's got m Kirkchin number two, which is the number he wore for four.
00:02:16
Speaker 2: Years on the back.
00:02:17
Speaker 6: And Matt went to the mound and threw an athletic strike, just as we thought he would, even though he had to relearn how to catch a baseball and.
00:02:28
Speaker 1: How to release it.
00:02:29
Speaker 4: You know, it's just incredible with those hands.
00:02:32
Speaker 6: He looked to his left and by that point, the entire his entire intimate family, me, daughter's sons, we were there wearing Catholic University jerseys with M. Kirkchin on the back, number two. And then he looked further to his left and the entire Catholic University team, all forty eight players, were wearing SeeU jerseys with M. Kirkchin number two on the back. And that's when Matt to me and said, I can't believe they're doing this for me. What Matt didn't understand is that they wouldn't do this for anybody else but him, because he personified what being a great teammate is. Jeff and I tell people all the time, the greatest compliment you can pay to anyone in sports or outside of sports is he's a great teammate. The worst thing you can say is he's a terrible teammate. Uncle Matt was the best teammate, which is why they named an award after him.
00:03:34
Speaker 1: That's Simon Jeff there on multiple times a week. It's really good what they do for the game. Part of the Ft network. Is this a great game or what? But if you want that whole episode, it's up. Boot Shambi is their guest on that one, and I encourage you to check it out. I gets the emotional that's is this a great game or what? And also last thing on the day today, you'll see a lot of these shirts baseball is the best. That's the classic Sarah Lang shirt. So I got that a while back. Sarah's awesome. She is, you know, one of the great faces of our sport in terms of you know, statistics and research and also just enjoying the sport. So always shouting out to Sarah on a day like today. And now let's charge charge, all right? So AJ yesterday I brought this up before charge just to give them love and said, hey, we'll give them more love at some point this week. Let's do it today. The Mariners have won seven straight and in Seattle they were freaking out for the first couple of months. I was not. I don't think you worried. Were you freaking out at the beginning of the season when you saw what they were doing, or were you like, eh, this looks good in structure.
00:04:44
Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure that I kept saying the Mariners are going to win this division. I just kept saying it over and over again. I was never I was never worried because, first of all, I don't think the A's pitching is there. They can hit, but they give up a lot of runs. I also feel like the Mariners are just the best team. They have the experience. I know they lost Cal Rawley, he wasn't really doing much, but Rose Reina, Julio the rest of that crew are doing a lot of things really well. And their bullpen is the best bullpen in that division for me. Their starters are the best starters in that division. For me, it was just a matter of time until they got it going.
00:05:15
Speaker 2: And here they are.
00:05:15
Speaker 4: They're in first place, They're hottest fire, and they're gonna be fine.
00:05:20
Speaker 2: Do I think they can win the World Series? I don't know.
00:05:22
Speaker 4: Do I think they can get to the World Series? They think they can get there. I just I mean, I think they're one of the better teams in the Yale.
00:05:29
Speaker 1: I think they can. I mean, they were as close as you can get last year without getting there, right Kratz, They went to a Game seven, and for me, you look at the trade deadline, you had a bat, you had a high leverage arm. I think they would have what it takes with the rotation and enough of a supporting staff on offense. This is also assuming that Cale comes back and looks like a version of Cal from twenty three and twenty four and twenty five. Doesn't have to be a sixty homer guy, But is it a thirty five homer decent on base clutch hitting catcher who's also defensively one of the best in the game.
00:06:07
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:06:07
Speaker 5: I mean, I think we all agreed that it was going to be the playoffs for them. But the playoffs, when they're there, they need to hit. They need to figure out how to hit. Is there tiny bit of a drop in strikeout rate?
00:06:23
Speaker 3: Enough?
00:06:24
Speaker 5: Is the fact that is Julio going to be able to step up in the playoffs? Cal had amazing playoffs last time. They gotta be able to hit because they're gonna most likely go up against Right now, you're looking at the Rays or the Yankees, two completely different things, two completely different teams, but they both score a lot of runs. So they have to be able to score runs. I don't care how good your pitching is, got to score.
00:06:46
Speaker 1: Are they going to get the healthy Brendan Donovan. To me, I loved that pickup and AJ when he's played, he's hit, you know, he's just he's missed time twice. Now you know. It went back on the shelf quickly. The returning for it was about a week eight thirty nine ohps four fifty two, slug three eighty six on base, Like that is what you sign up for. When you get Brendan Donovan. You just need to get them back for the stretch run right, you get a good second half out of Brandon Donovan. Always hit, always get on base.
00:07:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, they always That was the one thing about him. It was never a question whether he could hit or get on base. That's why they was so valuable and that's why they went out and got them. It just it comes down to me to what Krad said, They got to hit in the postseason. They're gonna get there. They're gonna be They're gonna have their pitching with Gilbert and Kirby. Castillo's kind of figured it out, Hancock, Miller, Brian wou There. I mean, they've got pitching and Munios at the back end, Aspire and the rest of these guys. They have so it comes on again. Can they hit enough and can they hit enough to beat a team like the Yankees with Cole Rodin Freed Schlitzler that that team, that's that's gonna be. The real question for me is can they hit enough to beat the Yankees? Because I think the Yankees and them are probably at the end of the year going to be the pride of the American League with the way things look right now.
00:08:03
Speaker 1: Kratz, I know you love dad jokes. This is not a joke. Ridges five and one Travel Power Bank is the answer to all of your messy wires all over the place issues.
00:08:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. I don't need more tube socks.

Speaker 5: I need this because somebody is going to use my phone that I fully charged and then dies halfway through the softball game that I go to. So this will lock it in and my friend next to me who forgot to charge his phone.

00:09:04
Speaker 5: And if you look at it, the two the guys that they added, they got Nailer last year at the break and then they added him back in free agency. Yes, he's gonna have to step up. All these guys are going to step up. But I think the big thing is going to be how does Cole Young look? How does Cole Emerson look? When playoff time comes around? Are you leaning on rookies to have big at bats in the postseason against an older veteran pitching staff lineup like the Yankees.
00:09:30
Speaker 1: We'll see, Yeah, we'll see. I mean also, if everything is intact on playoff time, you'll have some decision making. I'll run through the offense. While we're looking at the board here of team stats. So AJ you've got JP Crawford at short, Julio Rodriguez at center, first base, Naylor left field or Rose Arena right field, Rayley, and obviously there's some platoon action here, Cole Young at second, Dhsken Zone Parader. Right now, they've got a couple catchers, Garber backing up Riley, but Riley will be back, and then cold Emerson at third. When you get Brendan Donoman back, that then to me, put some competition on between Cole Young and cold Emerson in a good way. And also, come playoff time, you still can have both of them on the roster and you might just not have one playing very consistently. That creates some nice depth, little bench action for the team. To me, the names that I just listed, when you include cal and Donovan, I think that's a lineup that can get you too a World Series. Can you add one more bat? You can? Do you need one? I'm not sure relief pitching wise, and.
00:10:35
Speaker 2: I don't know where you put it.
00:10:37
Speaker 4: Where do you put on that You don't want to stunt. You don't want to stunt your your young guys growth in Young and Emerson, right, So you're worry about that, and you already have Donovan who plays third so really your only spot is second base. You're not gonna get put a guy in front of JP Crawford. Maybe you are right fielder, I guess maybe I mean a Roseerina and Julio and then you find it everyday right fielder or dah Canzone was pretty good for him in the postseason. I know he's kind of a platoony guy against lefties, but I don't know.
00:11:06
Speaker 2: I just don't know where you put a bat. Where would you put him? That's the question for me.
00:11:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, Raley and ken Zone right.
00:11:12
Speaker 5: No, it's rough Schnyder, it's Ref. Schneider faces lefties, and so I have a hard time believing the cash strap Mariners are going to make a.
00:11:21
Speaker 3: Big move like that.
00:11:23
Speaker 5: They already went out paid Ref Snyder, so they have their guy to face lefties, and then can Zone's in there when the rights are out there. So I think I think the position is d H and I think it's going to be between those guys of who who steps up. So a big move, I don't know, Just because they made a big move last year and they signed some guys in free agency, I don't know. I think it's still the same old Mariners.
00:11:48
Speaker 1: We've got another arm. You can always use another high leverage arm. Guys that it's already a good bullpen I know. But like for me aj if there's if there's a high leverage arm, like you know how most years there there's one or two, right, go get that durand that's open. I mean, you don't need him to be the closer, but go get a guy who's high leverage if he is available. Because you've got Munos, Brash, Ferrer's been really solid for them, Bizardo, Spire, like you mentioned, there's good names here, but go get another.
00:12:18
Speaker 4: Well, they pay the price though. It's kind of what Crash just said. The Mariners they don't like to do that a whole lot. They always are they they cry poor just as good as any other team does. So I don't know that they would do that. I would love for them to do it, but I don't know that they're going to. I think the I think the Mariners also with the Poto and what he's been through the last couple of years, he's he likes his teams, man. He likes his teams the way he likes his teams, and he sets him up for a certain way and he doesn't love to. I mean, last hear the Suarez and Naylor, But those positions are filled now, so sure, go out and get another arm. Every team wants another arm. There's not one team out there that says man, I wish we had no more pitching. I wish we had less pitching than what we have. Every team has. Every team out there, goes Man, and I wish we had one or two more arms that we could figure out, but every nobody they're too expensive.
00:13:05
Speaker 2: I don't know they'll do it. How about this? How about this?
00:13:09
Speaker 1: I like it? Yeah, you know, it's the one team that I would kind of rule out because they've got a lot of pitching. And actually Emerson Hancock yesterday was great again too. He's really emerged and found it for them. So I don't know if they'll be in the running. Every team would want them, but I don't know if they'll pay the price that other teams are going to pay that are in much more desperate need of starting pitching. Anyway, there's a lot more Mariners talk. You know, the new show we talked about refused to lose territory, So it's there for you if you'd like more in depth analysis on this team. Brady Farcas is great. It's part of the ft network. Hey, we're here and there's just a little trade that occurred justin Lawrence going to the Twins for cash. It just gives us a chance to actually talk about the Pirates bullpen with aj who missed both days of the controversy in Pittsburgh. Lawrence, by the way, twenty three appearances of five three two era Pirates Bullen has been great. Should be a little better, as they add Majinski if he wants to, you know, be there. He doesn't right now, but he's gonna have to deal with it tonight. What did you think we didn't have you for both of those days? What did you think of all of that?
00:14:13
Speaker 2: Well, so, I mean I missed a lot of it.
00:14:15
Speaker 4: But what so they said he's going to the bullpen and he basically said, no, I'm not going to the bullpen.
00:14:20
Speaker 2: Is that kind of the gist of what happened?
00:14:22
Speaker 4: He said, you know what we're then we're going to just put you on this administrative leave for the next few days and you can think about it.
00:14:28
Speaker 2: And then he's like, well, I don't have anywhere else to go, so I gotta go to the.
00:14:31
Speaker 1: Bullpen restricted list where you don't get paid and you don't get service time, so even more than administratively because that's usually paid. So they were like, you're not ready to pitch. This is what we're asking you to do. You push the chips back his way and he's like, cool, I'm gonna pitch on Tuesday.
00:14:49
Speaker 2: Uh yeah, okay, well I guess he's gonna pitch on Tuesday. I don't know.
00:14:53
Speaker 4: This is remember Aaron Savali last year with the Brewers when he went and said, hey, I don't want to pitch in the bullpen, and they traded him to the White Sox and got Andrew Vaughn, who's maybe the Pirates go on and trade him. I don't know what they're going to do with him, But you didn't. You don't have a choice. As much as you want to fight this and say this and that, he didn't have a choice. If they want to pitch at the bullpen, you know how you get back in the rotation. You go pitch really well in the bullpen, and then you get yourself a chance to go pitch in the starting rotation again.
00:15:19
Speaker 3: Sorry, I blame somebody around the pirate you're a starter.
00:15:25
Speaker 1: Say it all right. Pirates don't want to trade him, they want starting pitching deb for sure, A J I almost did a double take when I saw the email and realized it was Player of the Week, not Picture of the Month, but the highly debated who should win Picture of the Month Christopher Sanchez or miss topic. Is the first time I can remember any conversation really about who's winning a monthly award in our sports. So that part is cool, but that hasn't come out yet. Christopher Sanchez wasn't mentioned on the noteworthy performances. Did he only have one start last week? Is that part of it too? Krats? He pitched in the middle of the week, so maybe that's part of it. But anyway, miss one picture or Player of the Week in the National League for what he's doing. Who's your Picture of the month?
00:16:10
Speaker 2: Aja Sanchez?
00:16:12
Speaker 4: You didn't give up one run the whole month? How can you even This shouldn't even be a debate. He didn't give up one run the whole month. That should be easy. He should be the Picture of the month.
00:16:21
Speaker 2: Sorry.
00:16:22
Speaker 5: The miss gave up twenty less hits than Christopher Sanchez and he gave up one run.
00:16:29
Speaker 3: One.
00:16:30
Speaker 2: You know how rare it is to go a month and not give up a run.
00:16:33
Speaker 5: You never know rare it is to give up one and give up twenty less hit, give up zero, twenty less hits than the other guy.
00:16:39
Speaker 3: Less walop.
00:16:40
Speaker 4: Miss, he's gonna be our age, more strikeouts, He's gonna be your ace, but zero runs wins for me.
00:16:47
Speaker 5: Ah, sorry, I love, I love Christopher Sanchez. What he's doing was absolutely dominant the miss. I heard you guys discussing it yesterday. Sorry, I gotta go with the miss. I gotta go my Milwaukee love, my Homer Philly or my Homwerk Milwaukee love. Either way, Dude, dudes were dominant, but the mis gave up twenty.
00:17:05
Speaker 3: I think it was twenty three less hits. That's crazy.
00:17:10
Speaker 1: The innings were within like an inning. I think it was like thirty nine and thirty eight to thirty or something like that, so you can't really make much of a distinction there. I like the debate and hearing this from you guys, AJ, can you agree to disagree that if somebody is coming from the miz section, you can see where they're coming from.
00:17:28
Speaker 4: Listen, Polish people, we always we stick together so I totally understand it. I totally get it. But it just zero runs in a month. There's a lot of great pitchers that had great months in the National League. Apparently nobody can hit in the National League. They can just really pitch. But to me, if you go a whole month and give up zero, I don't care how many hits you give up, that means you figured out a way to get out of all those jams.
00:17:50
Speaker 2: To me, it's just it's just I don't know.
00:17:54
Speaker 4: It's it's hard for me to look at a guy and say, hey, you've given up zero runs a month and you don't win Pitcher of the Month because that never happens.
00:18:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
00:18:04
Speaker 1: That's what he said.
00:18:07
Speaker 3: That's what he said.
00:18:08
Speaker 1: That's what he said. All right, so let's get into this. We've got the back and forth with the league slash owners and the players. We have more quotes from the players Association side. Tomorrow we will get quotes from Rob Manfred. We either will get them for that show or the Thursday show if it comes out after the fact. As the owners are meeting up. We're very far away from anything really happening. But as in my mind, a show of record. They let you know everything going on in the game that you'd see as the major headlines. This is what we'll do. We'll give you the quotes on this side and the MLB response to and let's talk through it. So let's run through them and then I'll read them, Gab. You can kind of roll straight through so we can set the tone. It's kind of like chronologically running through the week here, starting with last week, where you know both sides sent in their initial proposals that will look nothing like what we see at the end. Bruce Meyer, who leads the PA, met with reporters yesterday and he said on the league's first proposal last week, quote very surprised. I mean I thought they would try harder to make it look good and they didn't even do that. And then here's Jesse Rodgers with another quote from him, Bruce Meyer talking about the Padres as an example for all teams, quote, we want to encourage more San Diego. San Diego is a small market team that went out, decided to compete, signed a lot of players, turned around their franchise. They are successful, they've grown attendance, they've grown interest, and we've all seen the explosion of their franchise value. One more from Bruce and then we'll get the reply from MLB on the fifty to fifty ReBs split, he said, it's not even a real fifty percent. It's taking billions of dollars off the top before they're proposing to even share any of that in terms of player share. What counts against players share and their proposal is everything salaries, of course, all forms of benefit, other things of value, things like moving costs and the cost of translators. All of that gets counted against player share, and most importantly, most significantly, amateur signing bonuses, which is some thing you really don't have an analog to in the other sports that have salary caps. MLB immediately coming out with a response, and again Rob Manford will have more, I'm sure in a day. So Bob Nightingale putting out this quote from Glenn Kaplan, one of the pr dudes on the MLB side, said, our salary cap and floor proposal addresses our fans concerns by leveling the playing field while sharing baseball revenue with the players fifty to fifty. Like the other leagues, under our proposal, major League players will receive more compan year one of the system than in twenty twenty six. We are ready to listen if the MLBPA wants to counter our proposal at the bargaining table. Yeah, let's do Alex Wood too, and then we'll jump back in here. Alex Wood, former Big leaguer, likes to tweet. He said, all MLB has to do to quote level the playing field is force all revenue sharing teams to spend their revenue sharing on talent. That was the original purpose of revenue sharing. Revenue sharing teams have taken advantage of the system and MLB currently can't do anything about it.
00:21:02
Speaker 3: Mike drop.
00:21:04
Speaker 4: True, how much money did the Pittsburgh Pirates get in revenue sharing last year?
00:21:09
Speaker 3: I'll find out for you. I'll find out for you.
00:21:12
Speaker 2: How much did they spend on players?
00:21:15
Speaker 5: That's the question. How much money did the million dollars? How much one total? One hundred and one? They crashed over one hundred million dollars threshold at one hundred and one.
00:21:25
Speaker 2: How many did the marrow? How much did the Marlins get last year?
00:21:29
Speaker 3: I can only type so fast.
00:21:32
Speaker 1: Well, while he's doing that.
00:21:33
Speaker 2: These are just sorry, these are just legitimate questions.
00:21:37
Speaker 4: I have because then also the other side of it is, you know, we had David Sampson on and he said, you know, there's different ways of calcula Why is there a different way to calculate how money?
00:21:47
Speaker 2: It's money? Right?
00:21:48
Speaker 4: Unless someone's trying to hide something from someone else, can't you just say we made this much money and we spent this much money, and then there's the pensions and there's all these other things that did we have to spend money on? I don't That's what I don't understand is the fifty to fifty al Right, So then if I'm the players go and say we want sixty percent of the revenue, you know what the owners are going to say, not fair, not fair, not fair. It's fifty to fifty no matter what. And then they'll figure out a way to hide money. And listen, I don't like this from either side. I hate that they're fighting publicly, but now it's become a pr battle and it sucks.
00:22:19
Speaker 3: It sucks.
00:22:19
Speaker 2: We're gonna have to talk about this for the next however long.
00:22:22
Speaker 5: Obviously, this is the part where players get hamstrung because they do see the books. They see all the books, but they're not allowed to discuss it.
00:22:29
Speaker 3: It's part of the.
00:22:31
Speaker 5: Collecutively bargained and antitrust stuff. But they do see the books. So if the players see the books and react the way that they do, this is why they're reacting the way they do, and they're encouraging others to spend more. The Pirates, according to AI, receive eighty five to one hundred million dollars annually in revenue sharing and their payroll is one hundred and one million dollars, So showing you that essentially the payroll is taken care of by revenue sharing. And I know Pittsburgh fans, they come out, I know this team makes other money other than revenue sharing, but that's what it says. And the biggest thing is that I want to say before we get into any more of these conversations us here on foul Territory, we are ex players one hundred percent, but we are currently baseball fans. Baseball fans want parody in the game. We want competition in the game. That's what you want. If everybody gets a trophy, then we're just gonna we're just gonna do away with the World Series and everybody just has a regular season and it's a cool, cool price. We want competition, and players want competition. Owners do not want competition, And fans that sit here and side with owners need to make sure that they understand that owners want money. They do not want parity. They want franchise values to increase. And when the first response from mister Kaplan is we hear what our fans want and that's what we're going after, that is not true. That is not what their central focus is. They are using you in that direction. And I truly believe if you listen to what we have to say and listen to what everyone else has to say, that the players are more on the fans side than the fans would think.
00:24:24
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:24:24
Speaker 1: And also when the league says, hey, we're gonna do fifty to fifty, I'm on the same page. Do the fifty to fifty on the TV money.
00:24:30
Speaker 2: Right?
00:24:30
Speaker 1: In college football, you don't get to just play teams. You have to pay those teams to play them, because you know the one team's making all the money off of it, right, I mean, you know that world better than I do. AJ fall in college football you can't just play and the other team doesn't get anything. You know, often there's big money exchanges for teams to play against other teams. Otherwise you wouldn't have competition. But that doesn't so you can share money. That's always been a thing that the increase of sharing money should be happening. But the problem is you had distrust because they created that without any lever to actually spend the money. The Padres example, you can fight it all you want to say, Oh, they were in some debt, they sold for ridiculous amount of money. They invested in their team, they made some mistakes on players they invested in, but they made some huge hits and they're an absolute vibe. They dominate San Diego because they invested in the team in every way right. They invested in the way that they operate their ballpark, their marketing, their player payroll, the whole deal. And they are small baby. They make nothing on their local TV money, just about nothing. So oh my gosh, the Padres would have even more of an advantage if they get to split local TV money with everyone else. So yeah, I mean, you would definitely help out the Padres significantly, not that they need help. They've been competitive, I know, they haven't won a World to just.
00:25:41
Speaker 2: The only thing that was able to be done. Was a grievance.
00:25:44
Speaker 4: Remember we talked about the grievance with Sacramento and we talked about the I know they're fake, that's the thing. There's nothing they could do. Pittsburgh allegedly had a grievance right where. That's why they went out and spent money this offseason because the players were saying, but if the numbers Errickers is saying is true seventy five to one hundred million and their payroll is one hundred and one million, where's all the rest of the money go? The tickets? Because they're they're they're doing all right tickets this year. I know they don't make that much in let's say they make thirty million. I'm throwing a random number out there off their TV okay concessions, parking.
00:26:21
Speaker 2: Tickets, what else for merchant.
00:26:24
Speaker 1: National TV money split?
00:26:25
Speaker 4: Where's all that money go? I mean, Fox pays a lot of money to broadcast the World Series every year, NBC paid money to get the NBC Sunday Night Game. There's a lot of things. ESPN paid for MLB TV. We knew that was in one hundred millions. So every team gets, you know, let's say ten million dollars. Where does all that money go to? That's that's that's the thing I think that players get annoyed about and and is it fair? I don't know, But where does that money go to besides in someone's pocket.
00:26:53
Speaker 1: Just google Mark Cuban about the Pirates and Bob Nutting and you'll learn a lot from a former owner who is I would say, pretty transparent. Just google what he said about a year ago and you'll learn a lot about what internal fights have been going on. Yeah, at the end of the day, right, I want to competition too. I think they need to share. They should have been sharing for a while now. It's created a perfect storm here so people can say whatever they want. We're gonna keep coming.
00:27:18
Speaker 2: Created the storm.
00:27:18
Speaker 1: People want to ask about it.
00:27:20
Speaker 2: Listen.
00:27:20
Speaker 4: I know I'm on the players side, but it's a creative storm the owners want. Because when you go on your social media and you go on and you talk to fans, most fans are on the owner side. They've won the public the pr battle already. No matter what the player's saying, the players don't say hardly anything, whether it's the PA, a player, or anybody because everyone's so scared to say anything but it just sucks. It's a bad situation for both sides. In the fact, again, the baseball is in the spot that it is, but as popular as it is from high school to college to the minor league to independent baseball to the major leagues, and we're having to have this conversation for the next however long. It's just a sad situation.
00:27:58
Speaker 1: I'm sorry it is. It's sad that we have to pay attention to this and it's going to be a problem, a huge problem. So we're only that it's Oh, it's both sides, for sure, both sides. They both create ridiculous proposals to say, we're not even going to have a real combo until February and you're gonna miss spring training. It's just a real thing. Hey day. Remember when we covered this last week and Tony Bitello was talking about how they might make a change at third base coach. They did. They brought in Gary Pettis, the VET formally think.
00:28:26
Speaker 2: That's going to make a difference? Crossed answer me, do you think that's gonna make a third base coach? I love GP. No.
00:28:31
Speaker 4: GP was one of my favorite coaches I ever played for. I had him in Texas for a year. He was awesome. But do I really think this is going to make a difference in the Giant season? They finished because Borg got a couple guys thrown out of the plate more than any I mean, wave him home, Windel Wendell Kim for the dang Red Sox forever in the Cubs, he was a legend because he waived everybody.
00:28:50
Speaker 2: Joey Korra, you know what, you can't hit, Guess what you gotta do.
00:28:53
Speaker 4: You gotta try to score more runs, so you send more guys, you take more chances.
00:28:57
Speaker 2: Let's talk about that.
00:28:59
Speaker 3: How about that? How about we talk about that?
00:29:01
Speaker 5: How about we talk about the fact that if you've never been out of third base waving a dude at home, you're thinking, as the guy's rounding the bag, you go, who's up, six, seven, eight of our order? I know what they're hitting. I think we're gonna go. I think we're gonna send them. You never know, make him make the play like you have to make those evaluations. So bad for him, great for GP, though, I love GP and the fact that they brought They brought Ron out of somewhere in the Giants, you know, out of Oracle Park, like I'm sure he just hangs out with the team and they just put a uniform on him until GP could get done.
00:29:37
Speaker 3: Is golfing his golfing lesson that he was getting.
00:29:40
Speaker 2: And by the way, Ron wtis Ron wotis Team Poland coaching staff, Huge Pollock, No Ski Ron Motis, he'll be on the coaching staff. Don't you worry.
00:29:51
Speaker 5: He is just stuck in Oracle Park. He's just kayaking all around the Oracle Park. Yes, he will not leave, he will not leave. Him and boat just together.
00:30:04
Speaker 4: I had whattas as the coach when I was there before, way before, way before boach. But what has been there for the Highland. He's the one who came up with my nickname. Him and Mark Gardner. They used to call me the Cooler. I told you all that because we were in Puerto Rico at the casino and Mark Gardner was winning and I just walked over and go, what's up, Guardian? He lost all his money and I was like, I shouldn't have said some of the things about me, should you guardy? Now they called me the cooler the rest of the year. Roots is best.
00:30:30
Speaker 5: Ron Wadas is the Highlander. You look at him year after year. He never ages, never ages.
00:30:38
Speaker 4: By the way, do you guys like water in a box? Can you have to get the worst taste ever? Scott?
00:30:48
Speaker 3: Plastic?
00:30:49
Speaker 1: You only like it in plastic?
00:30:51
Speaker 2: This is paper.
00:30:52
Speaker 1: No, I know that, but I'm saying I said, can you don't like water in a can?
00:30:56
Speaker 2: Tastes like metal?
00:30:57
Speaker 5: Sometimes they need to have a better They didn't have a better spout on the paper, Martin, I don't like to spout.
00:31:06
Speaker 1: Hey, subscribe to ap T. We'd appreciate that. It's baseball the way it should be covered. We're bringing it. If you have questions, comments, concerns too. I try and read as much as I can. Instagram is the easiest spot to see all the messages. Try to get through YouTube comments. There's a lot that's cool. We like that. But subscribe. Also, if you are listening to us, or if you're watching right now, head over to Apple or Spotify and follow the podcast too from when you're on the go. That would be awesome. If you want to rate and review, we barely ask for it, so it would be great if you can do that. Hey, do you think this is a dangerous precedent set by raised players to sign a baseball when a fan throws it back from the seats. I know this is a thing, you know for fans in some ballparks, but AJ your thoughts here, you know what, that's a last right.
00:31:53
Speaker 2: I don't love incentivizing this.
00:31:54
Speaker 4: I don't love incentivea But we saw Hacy Sanchez get hurt the other day, which was a listener standing. I remember I did a game a few years ago at Fenway where John Carlos Stanton hit a homer and the fan chucked and hit him when he was round in second base.
00:32:07
Speaker 2: This isn't a press I mean, listen and Wrigley. I get it.
00:32:10
Speaker 4: Most fans can't throw it far enough to hurt anybody, especially from the outfield.
00:32:14
Speaker 2: But I don't why are.
00:32:15
Speaker 4: We rewarding one of the biggest things we always say is don't throw stuff on the field, don't come on the field. So now the rais are saying, here's a base signed baseball. You threw a ball in the field. Like cool, dude, Like, I don't know, I don't think. I don't think this is a great precedent. But hey, it's the rays they do. They do it the rainway down there.
00:32:33
Speaker 5: I like, I like incentivizing fans to have a connection with the players, throwing objects back at him if somebody's not looking at it hits something like, that's so ridiculous that somebody got hurt.
00:32:43
Speaker 3: The Phillies.
00:32:45
Speaker 5: You catch a home run ball, they come to you, They get the home run ball, and you can keep it as a player in exchange for something else, or no of my guys are like whatever, Like I don't want the home run, my seventh home run of my career. Like, you sign it, you give it back to fan, and or they mail it back to the fan.
00:33:02
Speaker 3: I think that's a cool thing to do. We don't need to throw it onto the field.
00:33:05
Speaker 5: We don't need we don't need to reward objects being tossed at players.
00:33:10
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:33:11
Speaker 1: But but when it's the opposing team hitting a homer, that's where fans feel like they need to show their might and throw the pitch back. Yeah. I think that act is soft and tired. There's certain there's certain acts in baseball, and I think we're gonna get into another one later on that. I'm just like, Okay, we've seen it for a long time. What else you got?
00:33:28
Speaker 5: I'm keeping it. I catch a home run ball, I'm keeping it, I'm putting it.
00:33:31
Speaker 1: I'm giving it to a kid.
00:33:33
Speaker 3: Yes, oh yeah, give it to a kid.
00:33:36
Speaker 1: You caught a home run ball, you don't want it, give it to a kid. Okay, unless it's like you know, what about.
00:33:41
Speaker 2: I got kids, when I got kids, Scott, what if I got kids?
00:33:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, give it to your kid. That's fine, a kid. It could be your kid.
00:33:47
Speaker 2: But if my kid's not at the game, I got kids at home.
00:33:50
Speaker 1: That you can bring it home to them. That's a kid. It's still a kid.
00:33:54
Speaker 3: It's my birthday. Give me a ball.
00:34:06
Speaker 1: Hey, Better than mox Scores is sponsored by Simon's Hart and Babe Ruth League, Inc. Who are participating and partnering this spring to protect the hearts and lives of young baseball and softball players everywhere. Important cause we're talking about important causes today. So there's more info just aball dot org. Bottom of the screen. Let's talk games. Let's start with the Brewers destroying the Giants. Who the Brewers. They can put together some rallies. They really can get after you and you look up and it gets out of hands very quickly. It was too nothing, wasn't it too nothing? Right? It was too nothing. San Francisco scored first in this one. Yeah.
00:34:50
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:34:51
Speaker 4: What they do is they just hit, hit, hit, hit, walk, hit by pitch, walk, stolen base, extra base, first, the third hit hit, hit, hit, next thing you know, you're down seven to two and you're going just happened. This happened in about three minutes. So yes, the Brewers are really good about this. They can put some they can put some pressure on the other teams, and if you're not prepared for it, man, they can make you cunt.
00:35:09
Speaker 2: Your head spin really fast.
00:35:11
Speaker 5: People say all the time that home runs are rally killers, and the Brewers scored sixteen runs yesterday, zero homers. They did not want to kill the rally. And it's exactly what AJ just said. Triple clears, the bases, double now, second and third, not afraid to get a sack, fly in, score another run. Like it's just how they do it. And it's it's suffocating to teams who can't figure out how to well, we can't strike these guys out.
00:35:41
Speaker 3: What do we do? Oh crap, I have nothing to go to.
00:35:46
Speaker 4: But by the way, when people say when people say Scott homers or rally killers, I agree with that to a certain extent, because if you're down five runs and you got first and second and the pressure's mounting on the pitcher and you're late in a game.
00:35:59
Speaker 2: No I'm talking in eighth, ninth inning, when you.
00:36:02
Speaker 4: Don't have a lot of opportunities, and a guy hits a three run home and you're like, yeah, we're still down two. Oh crap, we're still down too. It's it is yes, everyone gets all hyped and excited.
00:36:13
Speaker 2: Oh we hit a home run. We're but you still are down too.
00:36:15
Speaker 4: Whereas if let's say that guy hits a double and then you just more and the pressure just keeps mounting and mounting. There are times when home runs can be rally killers. And it also gives the picture a chance. Oh the guy's trot around the base is who We're still winning. I used to tell guys that are like there. We'd be we'd have innings and we'd be up five or six and we give up two or three, and the picture would come in and be all like for me, like, hey, by the way, we're still winning, So everybody cheer up.
00:36:42
Speaker 5: It's okay to give up runs. Just don't give up the winning run. That's the biggest thing. That's it.
00:36:49
Speaker 1: Every time we talk about a team like Milwaukee, or we're gonna talk about the Rays in the moment, I'm now just gonna have it burned in my head. Go get school boy, give the number one dog if he comes back healthy. You just dream about one of those scenarios. Go for it. Okay, next up, because AJ loves this and oh perfect, our next guest not yet, but Aaron Ashby on the show. We'll talk about this topic. We barely ever cover it. AJ. Jacob de Gram's one hundredth win yesterday for the Rangers in a two to one victory.
00:37:23
Speaker 2: Men's don't matter who cares.
00:37:24
Speaker 1: It's cool number then all right, anyway, moving on cool number.
00:37:28
Speaker 2: Listen, it's cool.
00:37:29
Speaker 4: But one of the big debates is Jacob de Grom, a Hall of Famer. He's got a hundred wins, one hundred not even like okay, we get to two hundred. I'm sorry, but one hundred wins. It's cool for him, But there's a long list of guys that has one hundred wins. Not as dominant as Jacob deGrom, but there's a long list of guys that got one hundred wins.
00:37:49
Speaker 1: Did you watch what was it the one year where he freaking I don't even know if he got double digit wins and he had like a two ERA and the Mets never scored for him. I mean that stuff does happen, or they would score and then bullpen would blow it in the ninth Anyway, Michael McGreevy, who was matching up against him, took a screenshot of the pitching matchup in the morning. He said, I try not to worry about what the other picture does, but I mean, it's hard not to think, like, dang, that's the Grom. I appreciate that candor krats him, pointing out how big of a deal it was to face the Gram. And it's not like he got shell. He pitched well. His team just couldn't crack the Grom and the bullpen.
00:38:23
Speaker 5: Look, I mean, look at mcgreevy's age. The Grom's thirty six. Mcgreevy's watched this guy maybe two grounds, thirty seven, thirty eight Ibby Mabe.
00:38:32
Speaker 3: He looks so young. He looks so young, but like he watched this guy.
00:38:37
Speaker 5: Yes he's still and he's still, as Todd says, a beast, but there is like the Hall of Fame discussion I get it, it's gotta be there, but it would be in my opinion, it would be Hall of Fame changing in the sense of like what Hall of Famers have been in the past compared to what they are now.
00:39:02
Speaker 1: M All right, well, we're about to talk a lot more about wins. Our next guest is ready so better than box scores. Was presented by an important cause. Here it's Simon's Heart and Babe Ruth League, Inc. It's great education for everyone out there, young or old, and an important cause thanks to Simon's Heart. All right, we'll show this tweet. You know, there's trends we're trying to follow and ride the wave on the internet. Name an athlete you wish had a fully healthy career and this account Hawkham said, you can't say Derek Rose. We're talking baseball, So who has one?
00:40:08
Speaker 2: Brian Taylor? Brian Taylor. You guys know who Brian Taylor is.
00:40:15
Speaker 4: Nope, first overall pick Yankees hurt his shoulder in a weird accident, weird thing whatever, you have to google it. But he was supposed to be the left handed just a god through one hundred is a lefty.
00:40:29
Speaker 2: Didn't work out, got hurt, never really made it.
00:40:31
Speaker 3: Brian with an E. If people are looking it up.
00:40:34
Speaker 1: I just found that first overall, nineteen ninety one.
00:40:37
Speaker 5: M Jean Carr, I'll go. I'll go a little bit higher, Gean Carlos Stanton. If he doesn't get hurt, what kind of home run numbers? Out of a prolific home run hit already he's gonna get five hundred in his career? How many does he have? And then I go like the quintessential, like Ken Griffey Junior. If he doesn't get hurt, does he have the all time home run record?
00:41:03
Speaker 1: What about Mike Trout the last five years his career's not done yet.
00:41:07
Speaker 5: That's like saying Chris Sale. Like Chris Sale and Mike Trout kind of went through like injury time in the middle are they still like Chris Sales now put himself in the Hall of Fame had he not come back from those injuries.
00:41:20
Speaker 3: Different.
00:41:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, Trapp's already Hall of Famer. The question is just to picture if there's a fully healthy career. So my point was, if you had the last five years healthy for Trout, you know, he's he like a top ten player ever, top ten career ever.
00:41:38
Speaker 5: He could be in top five if you're talking about like one hundred plus war if you're talking about five hundred homers, however, many bags, three hundred plus steals. Yeah, obviously, but I still think he's got time. So that's why I didn't put him in there.
00:41:52
Speaker 1: No, that's fine, Yeah, I mean you picked the current players.
00:41:55
Speaker 4: Johan Santana, remember he was really good then he got hurt. I mean with two cy youngs. He was rolling through that, come through that no hitter for the Mets, and through like one hundred and forty pitches.
00:42:06
Speaker 2: It was never the same after that. I don't know.
00:42:10
Speaker 4: Listen, there's a ton of guys you could say if they didn't get hurt, if they didn't this didn't happen, and that, I mean, it's it's such a you know, but it happens.
00:42:17
Speaker 2: Stuff happens. That's why. That's why I think.
00:42:20
Speaker 4: Eric and I try to explain how hard it is to be a long term Major League baseball player because people get hurt all the time.
00:42:30
Speaker 1: Everyone's met someone on a plane is like I was supposed to be a first round pick for my rotator cut.
00:42:38
Speaker 3: Sure it would.
00:42:40
Speaker 1: And whether you predicted a home run or a game saving strikeout, go check out the parlay boost token that you can add to the mix, build your parlay and go for another memorable moment inside the bet.
