00:00:08.560 --> 00:00:17.199
This is the FlowFlex Skill Podcast, your field guide to the Solopreneur Operating System with author and coach Jennifer Britton.
00:00:17.679 --> 00:00:21.600
Daily steps plus consistent action equals momentum.
00:00:21.839 --> 00:00:27.039
That's Jennifer's mantra, and it starts right here, right now, with you.
00:00:27.519 --> 00:00:29.199
Let's get started.
00:00:32.640 --> 00:00:34.159
Hey and welcome back.
00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:41.119
It's Jennifer Britton, the author and creator of FlowFlex Scale, the operating system for solopreneurs.
00:00:41.359 --> 00:00:44.560
I've been a solopreneur since 2004.
00:00:44.719 --> 00:00:50.960
That sounds like a long time, but you know, I think what's kept it really fresh is every day is different.
00:00:51.119 --> 00:00:52.640
There's always a learning curve.
00:00:52.719 --> 00:01:02.079
And while we're in the AI-enabled landscape where every moment sometimes feels like a learning curve, I really want to get you thinking about your 90-day operating rhythm.
00:01:02.320 --> 00:01:17.280
You might have listened already to the quarterly reset recent podcast episode that I hosted, would invite you to go back to that because really part of FlowFlex Scale is built upon this notion of being intentional with your business design.
00:01:17.439 --> 00:01:28.319
It's not about being reactive because we live in a reactive world, but it's about being proactive and intentional around the things that you can control.
00:01:28.959 --> 00:01:35.280
And so in today's episode, I really want to talk to you a little bit about your 90-day operating rhythm.
00:01:35.439 --> 00:01:39.680
That's what the FlowFlex Scale framework is built around.
00:01:39.920 --> 00:01:47.680
And I've spent more than 20 years now coaching, mentoring, and advising business owners of all sizes, of all types.
00:01:47.920 --> 00:01:57.200
I specialize in the virtual space, certainly in coaching and program design, but I've worked with a lot of businesses of all different types over my career.
00:01:57.599 --> 00:02:02.799
Some of you know I first started out as a part-time business faculty member.
00:02:03.040 --> 00:02:09.520
And once the dean heard that I was a coach, he was like, great, can you coach as well as teach and advise?
00:02:09.680 --> 00:02:18.800
And I said, absolutely, I'd be really happy to help businesses, fledging business owners really look at articulating their vision.
00:02:19.039 --> 00:02:22.639
Now, 2004, you know, that's a long time ago.
00:02:22.800 --> 00:02:24.479
The world wasn't as fast.
00:02:24.879 --> 00:02:36.400
However, having a longer-term vision can get us out of this constraint of really getting stuck because many times we can't see what is possible.
00:02:36.879 --> 00:02:50.080
And I'm really happy that when I started putting down the footprint of this business, which happened a year plus before I actually opened the doors to this business, but I was lucky because I was going through coach training at the time.
00:02:50.159 --> 00:02:54.800
And I had a wonderful student coach coaching me on what did I want to create in my business.
00:02:55.039 --> 00:02:57.039
I knew that I would be doing something different.
00:02:57.199 --> 00:03:00.800
As some of you know, I had lost vision part uh in one of my eyes.
00:03:01.120 --> 00:03:06.560
Vision has never returned, although I must say I do adapt knit much better today than I ever have.
00:03:07.120 --> 00:03:11.280
And I knew that something needed to change in my world of work.
00:03:11.439 --> 00:03:15.039
I could no longer support the teams that were amazing.
00:03:15.199 --> 00:03:19.439
They needed really someone who could navigate better in the world at that time.
00:03:19.840 --> 00:03:21.759
That led me back to Canada.
00:03:22.000 --> 00:03:30.800
And as I thought about not only changing my location, but entirely changing and jumping into this thing called entrepreneurship.
00:03:31.039 --> 00:03:35.039
I share this because setting a vision was absolutely critical.
00:03:35.199 --> 00:03:42.319
And if you have a copy of FlowFlex Scale, I really want you to take a look at the seven enablers and an IV.
00:03:42.479 --> 00:04:00.240
You might have heard me talk about these during the pandemic because they really are also levers that we can be using for flexible work arrangements, whether we're in the office, whether we're hybrid, whether we're remote, we also want to apply them in the workspace and the entrepreneur space.
00:04:00.479 --> 00:04:04.960
So today's episode really is about the 90-day work cycle.
00:04:05.199 --> 00:04:11.199
And when I think about introducing vision, I want you to be thinking about your vision for your business.
00:04:11.439 --> 00:04:14.560
How is that vision pulling you forward?
00:04:14.800 --> 00:04:18.959
If you haven't revisited your vision in a while, take a look at it.
00:04:19.120 --> 00:04:35.040
And why I introduced the story about my eye was because really I was able to create a very big, compelling vision for this business with one a coach, even before I opened the doors.
00:04:35.279 --> 00:04:54.399
And I think this is the magic of coaching with a human, because we really can help people tap into massive large-scale possibilities that might seem way out there, but over time, day by day, step by step, month by month, we do actually achieve our vision.
00:04:54.720 --> 00:05:06.879
And three years ago, 2023, 19 years into this business, I really had felt that I had fulfilled a massive part of this vision of potentials realized.
00:05:07.040 --> 00:05:20.319
I originally opened the doors to serve three groups: leaders and their teams, entrepreneurs, and also coaches, really through enhanced conversation, enhanced results, and relationships.
00:05:20.480 --> 00:05:25.120
And I think FlowFlex Scale is certainly a manifestation of this as well.
00:05:25.519 --> 00:05:26.959
Back to vision, though.
00:05:27.120 --> 00:05:32.399
I had put out that vision in 2003, not knowing really what lay ahead.
00:05:32.639 --> 00:05:35.920
I had this vision of creating a ripple effect in the world.
00:05:36.079 --> 00:05:45.040
I now can look back and see that was my work, my writing, my research, and continued advocacy and training for others in the area of group coaching.
00:05:45.360 --> 00:05:54.240
I really was drawn to this profession in those days because I've I felt that it was so important for people to get access to a coach.
00:05:54.480 --> 00:05:56.399
Here we are in 2026.
00:05:56.720 --> 00:06:01.920
Group coaching is now well understood and activated by many organizations.
00:06:02.480 --> 00:06:06.240
Entire teams are taking part in team coaching processes.
00:06:06.399 --> 00:06:08.240
It's no longer just with the leader.
00:06:08.480 --> 00:06:16.399
And I would even assert, as I'm recording this, for many, they now have access to their AI-enabled coaches.
00:06:16.639 --> 00:06:19.680
So what is next for you in your vision?
00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:26.079
I am really sitting at this point, and part of FlowFlex Scale is my next step in the world.
00:06:26.160 --> 00:06:28.560
How are we creating sustainable livelihoods?
00:06:28.720 --> 00:06:33.360
How are we continuing to build human capacity so that we do have livelihoods?
00:06:33.519 --> 00:06:37.120
And FlowFlex Scale is an important entrepreneurial piece of this.
00:06:37.360 --> 00:06:49.120
So back to the 90-day operating rhythm, because sometimes, again, with this big vision of 20 years earlier, how do I actually help people have a ripple effect around conversations?
00:06:49.279 --> 00:06:51.839
I knew it had to happen one person at a time.
00:06:52.000 --> 00:07:05.040
And that day after day in 90-day increments, really could start seeing the shifts in my business, thankfully, through the work and the partnership with so many amazing leaders, entrepreneurs, and organizations.
00:07:05.759 --> 00:07:10.800
When we think in quarters, it's much easier to act in these micro moments.
00:07:11.040 --> 00:07:23.839
And as I released the 90-day guide for success in 2021, it really became so compelling and actually so amazing to see how leaders were using a book with their team members.
00:07:24.000 --> 00:07:30.560
I liken it to be a 90-day guide for onboarding or reboarding in the evolving workspace.
00:07:30.800 --> 00:07:36.800
And if you have a copy, I'd invite you to actually pick it up off your bookshelf, dust it off.
00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:39.199
You don't just have to be in an organization.
00:07:39.360 --> 00:07:44.160
In fact, it's really appealing to leaders of all kinds.
00:07:44.399 --> 00:07:48.480
Earlier today, I actually had a copy of the book.
00:07:48.720 --> 00:07:52.480
It's not here with me right now, but here's what I want to invite.
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:54.639
If you do have a copy, great.
00:07:54.879 --> 00:08:03.199
If you don't, I want you to pull out your calendar on your phone, on paper, on your computer, and really start thinking in quarters.
00:08:03.360 --> 00:08:08.079
If you haven't looked at your annual goals for the year, what is left on that list?
00:08:08.240 --> 00:08:14.160
And what might be a great project to experiment with over the next 90 days?
00:08:15.199 --> 00:08:24.560
Working in these quarterly bytes allows us to chunk it down into our months, into our weeks, and of course into our daily practice.
00:08:24.879 --> 00:08:30.399
I really love starting a week with our FlowFlex Scale lab participants.
00:08:30.639 --> 00:08:33.919
We meet on Friday, on Mondays and Fridays.
00:08:34.159 --> 00:08:42.559
Friday is sort of our end of week reflection and coaching, getting people really to integrate their learning and get them, keep the momentum going.
00:08:42.720 --> 00:08:44.320
And Monday is about focus.
00:08:44.480 --> 00:08:48.240
We do some initial planning and do some creative sparkers.
00:08:48.399 --> 00:08:54.799
So if you're interested in that, check us out at flowflexskill.com and consider joining us for the next quarter.
00:08:54.879 --> 00:08:57.519
Or you can join us starting next week.
00:08:57.840 --> 00:09:01.440
The beauty of it is the ongoing focus.
00:09:01.679 --> 00:09:05.600
And as I started off by saying, it is about chunking it down.
00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:07.840
So invite today.
00:09:08.080 --> 00:09:10.320
What is on your 90-day bucket list?
00:09:10.639 --> 00:09:15.919
Go to that big bold vision, see how far you've gone up the mountain.
00:09:16.159 --> 00:09:29.600
And from there, I want you to really think about how do you chunk it down into 90-day blocks, into your next three by one month, and then into the next 12 weeks.
00:09:29.919 --> 00:09:44.399
If you take a project and really start to chunk it into that three months, 12 weeks, 90 days, the daily steps really do become consistent action, creating momentum.
00:09:44.799 --> 00:09:47.039
So hope that you'll enjoy this.
00:09:47.200 --> 00:09:54.080
We're coming up towards the end of another quarter, and it's an invite to take stock.
00:09:54.559 --> 00:09:59.360
As I said in my last episode, it's about pausing, focusing, creating, and activating.
00:09:59.600 --> 00:10:04.000
PFCA, that's the conversation sparker reflective framework.
00:10:04.240 --> 00:10:13.440
We're going to pause, we're going to reflect what's working, what's not, we're going to create a new rhythm, and we're going to put it into practice with the activate cycle.
00:10:13.679 --> 00:10:18.559
So as we go to close today, consistency is about creating momentum.
00:10:18.799 --> 00:10:21.919
Consistent action leads to new rhythms.
00:10:22.159 --> 00:10:24.000
It leads to new habits.
00:10:24.240 --> 00:10:30.240
If we're only doing things one-off, we don't get to see the benefit of the learning cycle.
00:10:30.480 --> 00:10:35.600
And even in an AI-enabled world, we are not AI-enabled, right?
00:10:35.759 --> 00:10:38.480
We as humans need completion.
00:10:38.639 --> 00:10:46.080
And so I would invite you in this next quarter to pick a task that you can start and hopefully something that you can stop.
00:10:46.480 --> 00:10:52.480
Might be a task, it might be a project, but the ability to close off on loops is important.
00:10:53.360 --> 00:10:57.519
Cognitive fatigue happens when we leave too many loops open.
00:10:57.759 --> 00:11:03.120
So invite as you think about your 90-day cycles, what would it be like if you really double down on something?
00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:07.519
Just like that story of the 72-hour writing marathon.
00:11:08.399 --> 00:11:12.879
While I put my fingers to the keyboards for the first time at 8 p.m.
00:11:13.039 --> 00:11:15.440
on Thursday night, a week and a half ago.
00:11:15.759 --> 00:11:19.200
I had been thinking about this story since January.
00:11:19.600 --> 00:11:22.559
It takes place in a place that I was visiting.
00:11:22.720 --> 00:11:35.279
And everything I looked at sort of gave me a twinkle to think about, huh, how might that show up in this next book of adventures of my hero and heroine.
00:11:35.679 --> 00:11:37.919
So with that, stay tuned.
00:11:38.000 --> 00:11:40.080
Maybe you'll read and hear a little bit more about that.
00:11:40.159 --> 00:11:42.320
But FlowFlex Skill is coming out soon.
00:11:42.399 --> 00:11:44.240
So you can check your local bookstore.
00:11:44.320 --> 00:11:47.120
You can also check online, of course, on Amazon.
00:11:47.360 --> 00:11:51.600
For that book and all my others, thank you for taking some time today.
00:11:51.759 --> 00:11:59.279
Let us know as you listen in what's important about the next 90 day cycle for you, or even thinking in this notion of 90 days.
00:11:59.440 --> 00:12:01.600
With that, be well and take care.
00:12:01.759 --> 00:12:03.200
We'll see you soon.
