Speaker 1: Love this next story. So we mentioned all Dinger again. Down at Aldinger there's an artist by the name of Carla Grace who's a self taught artist. She's picked up the brushes herself and shown quite an aptitude for it where she's done this amazing painting of a pride of six lines. There's a great piece by Paul Ashen in the Ties about it yesterday. Now this this amazing painting. Check it out online, folks. It's absolutely superb. It's going to be exhibited at Southby's in New York in July and then auctioned off with the money raised for a foundation to save Africa's declining line population. We have Carla on the line now. Carla, thank you for joining us. We've got a picture. We've got your painting up on our live stream now so that our listeners can look at it if they're watching along on YouTube. It's such a beautiful painting.

Speaker 2: Thank you.
00:00:52
Speaker 1: So what's your link to South Africa or to Africa.
00:00:56
Speaker 2: Oh well, I was actually born in South Africa and spent a lot of my childhood in Southern Africa where basically wildlife was part of my everyday life. So yeah, very much part of everything that I had growing up.
00:01:11
Speaker 1: The composition of the painting is extraordinary. Describing it for people who are who haven't seen it, it almost looks like you're standing over the lines. How did the images sort of come to be?
00:01:24
Speaker 2: Well? I actually went to South Africa with to meet Kevin Richardson and those lines in particular, and I spent a week with them, walking around with them with a drone and taking photos of them, and by the end of it, I had a host of photographs that I ended up stitching together to create this aerial perspective of these lines, because I mean, how many times can you paint a line and say, oh, this one's unique. So I was keen to paint something that had never really been done before. When it comes to lions and there we have a composition of three that are really looking at you, and the other three are kind of engaged in their normal behavior according to their personality, and it just captures that group of lions in a very unique way.
00:02:12
Speaker 1: It's quite a mesmerizing image. You look at it and you feel like the lines it's almost like the main Lisa's eyes, so they're looking How long does it take to paint something like that color.
00:02:24
Speaker 2: Well, that one took me about three months of the actual painting itself. Yeah.
00:02:29
Speaker 1: Wow, it just it looks like a photograph.
00:02:32
Speaker 2: I've got to say.
00:02:32
Speaker 1: It's just one of the most spectacular things I've seen.
00:02:36
Speaker 2: Unbelievable much.
00:02:37
Speaker 1: How do you go from South Africa to Aldinga Beach? What a great journey.
00:02:42
Speaker 2: Yes, I have moved quite a few times. It is an incredible story and I think we need quite a lot of time to cover it. Basically, I ended up living in Perth and I met my husband and he was in the Army at the time. We bounced around Australia, but he is originally from Udinga and we ended up moving back here. He got out the army and now we are living in our home and I've got my studio here and he now works with me. So full circle and it's a nice little family business.
00:03:11
Speaker 1: Now I might bump in at the surf Club over the weekend. We're going to place down there and I'm going to retire there. So it's my favorite part of Adelaide Cala. Great having you on the show and good luck with the auction, and what a beautiful piece of work that is.
