Speaker 1: Now this is a really important issue. The RAA have partnered up with our good friends at Catherine House with a partnership that will support women experiencing homelessness to get their driver's license, a crucial step on the path to independence and getting your life in order. Jaylee Cooper from Catherine House is on the line. Jayle, good morning to you.
00:00:20
Speaker 2: Good morning, So, Jaylie, we love working with Catherine House. We've been doing it for years now, with the with the with the Undy Drive. Tell us about this partnership that you've got with RAA and how that's going to work.
00:00:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, So it's a new partnership that was sort of created at the end of last year and it really came about because the RAA, you know, came to us and said, you know, we're looking to partner with you. How can we help And honestly, one of the first things that I thought about was driver's license. It's something that probably many years now, it's since working at Catherine House, we kind of have heard over and over again in terms of, you know, we're working with women obviously in housing and you know, those sorts of things, but we're also kind of looking at, you know, plans for their future, and a huge part of that is getting back to employment. And you know, if you go for a job, one of the first things that you know is on the questionnaire do you have your driver's license? And for many of the women, they don't, and so that is a huge blocker. And so that was one of the key things we sort of said to Aria, if you could help us with this, this could be life changing for some of the women we support.
00:01:36
Speaker 2: So in terms of the help, what sort of help can the RAA provide? Because I would have thought like it's one of those things where you know, you've still got to swallow hard and go on the service SA to get it sorted out at some point, isn't it.
00:01:47
Speaker 3: Yeah. No, So Aria, I'm going to sort of step in in a couple of areas. But first and foremost they're going to be able to offer professional driving lessons for women. So yeah, yeah, So for some of our clients, you know, each year and this is going to be a three year partnership with RAA, which is so exciting for us. So what it does is it really allows for when we're working with women, it gives them also a bit of a goal to work towards as well a bit of an incentive to say that, you know, this is something that we can we can offer you at Catherine House. Is some driving lessons to get yourself either back on the road, you know, if you if your drivers, you know, if you eat your license has lapsed at some point, but also to really rebuild your confidence as well, because if you haven't been on the road for a while or at all, then actually getting back on the road and doing it safely it's really important.
00:02:43
Speaker 2: So is it one of those things with you evidence not to put too fine a point on it. Ship Blakes who mistreat their wives and girlfriends, do they use the inability to drive, or rather preventing women from driving as a way of sort of keeping arounder control?
00:02:59
Speaker 3: Yeahsolutely. You know, there's there's various forms of violence and abuse, and often that control can be a huge part of that. So you know, when we talk about someone getting their license, then yet we absolutely talk about the fact that they can you know, get kids to school and you know, go to work. But it's also that level of independence that probably a lot of us maybe don't think about in this scenario where there has been no situations, so just be able to be able to have that independence, to be able to get in your car and to do it safely is hugely important.
00:03:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, anything we can do to help promote this just sing out jayly because we know the importance of the work that Catherine House does. Thanks for joining us. We catch up soon.
