Yan Gomes: Embracing The Weight Of Responsibility (And The Joy You Can Derive From It)

In 2019, Yan Gomes was behind the plate for the Washington Nationals in Game 7 of the World Series. He caught the final pitch and helped the team capture its first World Series title in franchise history. In this conversation, Yan shares a behind-the-scenes look at that moment — and the journey that, years earlier, helped him become the first Brazilian-born player in MLB history. You’ll hear how the Nationals roster came together to turn around a 19-31 start to their season and ultimately win the World Series — as well as many of the mindsets & philosophies that helped Yan become an MLB All-Star and Silver Slugger. At its core, so much of Yan’s story is about feeling the weight of enormous responsibility (but also embracing it for the joy and fulfillment you can derive from it).
