00:00:00
Speaker 1: Hey, I'm Don McDowell. Welcome to Don mcdell Outdoor Radio. We have a house full today, the studio is full. We're gonna start off with my good friend Keemo Cuckoo calla Whale, Coffee in Command. Used to be coffee and chaos, but I'll tell you this, no matter where he is, chaos is soon to follow.
00:00:23
Speaker 2: Welcome, Thank you sir. How are you doing?
00:00:26
Speaker 1: You know this is gonna be a fun day twenty six years. I've never had so many people in the studio, you know, it's amazing. You know, you're like a mobster bringing the gangsters in here. So yeah, and then we've got the other name you've heard before is Mattress. Sergeant Big Daddy Dave Burns over here from downtown Yuma.
00:00:50
Speaker 3: Good morning, Don, Thanks for having me on the show.
00:00:52
Speaker 1: I appreciate you coming down. And now are you serving as a bodyguard for came all over here?
00:00:59
Speaker 3: Now if through the chaos to ensure that we don't get stuck?
00:01:05
Speaker 1: Okay? Yeah, yeah, Well you gotta love me. You know the other day he said, well, you know, I take a bullet for you. I said, yeah, but you know you're the reasons why we're shooting bullets at us. You know, just figure it out. I mean, you can do the way. And then we've got some gunsmith's in the house. Besides Big Daddy, we have Mike and Nate from finn our gun works in downtown Channeler. Welcome, thanks for having us, you know. And then we've got our MLB guy, h Kate Knitson is the rehab pitching coach for the Kansas City Royals. What happened to them last night? That cost me a hotdog? I mean it was only one run, so anyway. And then we've got our good friend over here, Peter Rossis from the Fender Engraving does a great job. He's doing some stuff for Forrest hats and patches and all that kind of stuff. So as we go through today, Kid is here. He has an If you listened last week, Kim was in. He's got a thirty out six that's doing some odd things. Then I'm gonna leave it go with that. I'll let him explain that when we get to it. So we have the skills of Mike, Nate, Dave Rci's over here, the man behind the curtain. Nice. We're gonna put you on social media today. Absolutely, and then we hit Then we got brother JJ back from Ukraine over here trying to keep reading straight. So it's gonna be it's gonna be a big run today. As we go through, we're gonna learn about the gun stores. Coffee and Command used to be Coffee and Chaos. What are we doing? How come you change the name? I mean, kay, you are chaos?
00:02:58
Speaker 2: Well we had to.
00:03:00
Speaker 4: Chaos is getting a little a little much, and so I had to. I had to shake the chaos because you had enough. I don't need the name of following me, so.
00:03:10
Speaker 1: You never will.
00:03:11
Speaker 2: I don't.
00:03:12
Speaker 3: But that chaos didn't go away. Yeah, you just churched it up.
00:03:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know, I follow what my command staff wants me to do.
00:03:22
Speaker 2: You know who she is.
00:03:25
Speaker 1: Okay, well let's talk a little bit about the IMP six Rifle Company. There's been some changes. What are you guys doing?
00:03:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, so the Montana for six Rifle Company, we are going through some changes. It's got a new name that's coming out soon. The rifle company is going to be relocated to you my Arizona.
00:03:47
Speaker 1: I think that's pronounced Juma uma Juma. I thought you would we go to break I'll tell you how to God name, but I can't do it on the air.
00:03:57
Speaker 4: Okay, that follows in that category of those words other bad words. Yeah, you can't say that, all right, all right, I got it, I got it. But yeah, we don't want to reveal too much what's going on with it. But there's some really cool changes, some new stuff coming for Montana four O six A ka blank blank blank blank name.
00:04:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, rudder, rudder. Yeah, maybe you can give us a rundown. You know, the weaponry that you guys are producing is tier one level, you know, clear down to beginner level. But you know there's some really good stuff that goes bumping them, right, so absolutely.
00:04:33
Speaker 4: You know, we did a lot of projects for three letter identifiers T two is uh SBRs you know, up to sixteen inch and or TI ones or usually precision rifles. But they're they're pretty awesome. We still need to get you one. We've been talking about it, but we just haven't done it.
00:04:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, well I'm waiting. You know, maybe Big Day can help you out. I've asked him to build me ar PLATF for him with a level action thirty or thirty odd six.
00:05:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's the definition of chaos.
00:05:06
Speaker 2: You know, if if Dave Hart was here, don't start.
00:05:10
Speaker 1: Don't start on me. If Dave Hart was.
00:05:13
Speaker 4: Here, this would be a very interesting conversation, the argument that would be going back and forth between Don and Dave. You'll get to meet Dave's he's awesome.
00:05:23
Speaker 1: But yeah, let's just say he's on AK forty seven. Guy, like my friend Arc over here. You know they don't you start.
00:05:34
Speaker 4: Oh, we started this conversation yesterday about Ak's in the show.
00:05:38
Speaker 1: Yep, Pray and Spray. Well it went pretty deep.
00:05:41
Speaker 2: But I'll let him bring that up if he wants to.
00:05:44
Speaker 1: But well, they're good stories, they're good stories. But yeah, okay, Rebecca stand by the dome button. Okay, okay, Mike, tell me about your your gun shop. What do you do? Where are you so?
00:05:57
Speaker 5: So we're Finnriar Gun Works.
00:05:58
Speaker 6: We're located in Chandler on Channeling Boulevard between Arizona and McQueen. So we when we had the idea for our shop, we we looked at other shops and was kind of like all they do is sell. If you want to go and get gunsmithing done or Sarah coat done or anything like that, you had to go to all these different places.
00:06:17
Speaker 5: So we decided that we could do all that in one shop.
00:06:20
Speaker 6: So we do gunsmithing, we do sales, we do training, we do Sarah Coat, laser engraving, Kaitax holsters, kind of everything all in one place.
00:06:31
Speaker 4: So you got to tell them the money is to draw the people in for you tell them your background.
00:06:38
Speaker 2: So people, yeah, go to find veteran run stuff.
00:06:44
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:06:45
Speaker 6: Yeah, So we're we're owned by myself and my wife. We're both army veterans. I was in the one sixtieth for nine years. I was a armed black Hawk weapons guy.
00:06:57
Speaker 1: Nice.
00:06:58
Speaker 5: So I worked on the Image sixty lead over here is.
00:07:01
Speaker 1: The former door gunner for the Space Shuttle. Yeah all right, but yes I worked on.
00:07:08
Speaker 6: I worked on thirty millimeters, mini guns, rockets, hell fires, all that stuff. Deployed overseas numerous times. I was a instructor for everybody coming into the unit. After I got out, I ended up going overseas contracting in Afghanistan again. I worked at Spikes Tactical as their lead armor for a little while. I worked at MDI Helicopters here in Mesa as their armament instructor as well. So I said the whole program and trained the Kenyons, the Lebanese, and the Malaysians while I was working with them.
00:07:37
Speaker 5: So been been doing this for a little bit.
00:07:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, been They're done that well, God love you man. That's uh, that's quite a resume. Watch yourself.
00:07:45
Speaker 7: Me personally, I don't have the same background as Mike. I'd be classified more as just an enthusiast. I actually met Mike through Tara, his wife, who was happening to be going to physical therapy.
00:07:58
Speaker 5: Uh.
00:08:00
Speaker 7: She informed me that she had a gun shop, and then I ran as fast as I could to go see what was up with it at Mike and Tara, and then did a little bit of work for him, trying to do some remodeling stuff. I guess we would classify it as And next thing I know, I got a text said, hey, do you want a part time job?
00:08:19
Speaker 4: And the new joke about him we just started downstairs is he's a veteran own doctor.
00:08:28
Speaker 1: Okay, I think I'm gonna slides up that one.
00:08:32
Speaker 6: Yeah, well, well, so s Nate's actually got a doctorate. I call him doctor Nate, but he's he's covering a lot of our medical training stuff with CPR.
00:08:41
Speaker 5: And all that kind of stuff.
00:08:43
Speaker 7: I do have to clarify physical therapists. I cannot give you the good drugs. I'm not an MD.
00:08:49
Speaker 1: Just know that.
00:08:51
Speaker 3: So you just took away half of what we were going to ask you.
00:08:55
Speaker 1: That's okay, okay, guess who's torn it is in the bucket?
00:09:00
Speaker 3: Good morning, good morning.
00:09:02
Speaker 1: First of all, let me ask you, how did you fare on the Wounded Warrior Games?
00:09:07
Speaker 3: So we just finished our team Marine Corps, no big deal over in North Carolina. Got the teams ready for wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, seated volleyball, some shooting, archery, and some swimming.
00:09:19
Speaker 1: So we're ready.
00:09:20
Speaker 3: We kick off on June thirteenth for the games in San Antonio, Texas.
00:09:25
Speaker 1: WHOA, sounds pretty exciting. It is.
00:09:29
Speaker 3: It's gonna be a great event. I mean every year, how many guys are participating? All five services? So we've got the Marines, Navy, Air Force, Army, and so calmon, what about the coast Guard? We wrap them up with the Navy. It's better that way, supervision. Wow, we can't leave those coasts adrift.
00:09:49
Speaker 1: Did you pick them up with the Walmart parking lot?
00:09:52
Speaker 2: Not to drop them off back? What's that?
00:09:55
Speaker 1: Okay? All right, Well, I'm honored to have you guys in here. And then once we come back, I want to get Can in here and let's see if we can diagnose what's sailing his thirty out six. I'm Don mcdoll's Fox Sports dom Inkdell Outdoors. iHeartMedia and Fox Sports. Will be right back with the gang. Alrighty, we're back. Okay, We've got Can in here. Ken, thanks for coming down. You know, I appreciate you showing up two weekends in a row. There's thirty out six that you have described for the listeners as you did last week. What's what's the issue?
00:10:39
Speaker 8: Well, that's the gun that I've had for forty years.
00:10:41
Speaker 2: You know, it's.
00:10:43
Speaker 8: Killed a lot of animals.
00:10:44
Speaker 1: That thing looks like it's brand new.
00:10:46
Speaker 9: Well, I put a new stock on it, maybe four or five years ago. Okay, going to the gun show. Uh, it's shot everything I pointed at basically for a long time. But I go out to the range, I'm shooting a little bit and I get I got some flyers. You know, two were close together. So I go, oh, oh, okay, wait a second, it's back up. Is that I put a different scope on it. This scope when I bought this rifle, the scope came with it, and the rings are kind of goofy and all this stuff, but it's always shot really great. Put a new you know, I changed rifles. I got a I got a six or five creed and I put a new scope on it. I know I shouldn't probably said that, but r C.
00:11:24
Speaker 1: Did he show up at a prius?
00:11:26
Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, but I did. My hat covers my bun. My hat covers my my my hair. But anyway, can you move.
00:11:36
Speaker 1: Them away from it?
00:11:37
Speaker 9: I know, it's just it's terrible, but I do like shooting that rifle. It's a nice rifle to shoot. So anyway, I go out to just arranging this thing, and I'm two pretty close together. Then I have a flyer that's twelve inches off and I'm you know, I'm on bags at one hundred yards, and then you know, all of a sudden, it's just a I got to make sure what I say.
00:11:56
Speaker 8: It's just not going well.
00:11:58
Speaker 9: So anyway, so I decided to put a new scope on it, put you know, change the scope from another one, a nice little pol of scope, and and then it's just it's a it's a mess.
00:12:08
Speaker 8: And so I really don't know what's going And.
00:12:10
Speaker 9: I I put the reattached the scope maybe two or three times.
00:12:14
Speaker 8: I've changed scopes out and I still have the same problem. So it's got to be the gun.
00:12:19
Speaker 1: Now.
00:12:19
Speaker 9: My my buddy over there thinks that, uh it possibly could you know, have some kind of fouling in the in the chamber. So we we we cleaned it out really good to make sure there wasn't.
00:12:29
Speaker 1: Any Did he tell you more oil? He always does, Yeah, yeah, you know.
00:12:35
Speaker 9: They they can run dirty, but they can't run dry, right, run dirty, but not dry. So anyway, and this, this gun's been taken care of too. I mean I've cleaned this gun, you know, a thousand times, and I'm not sure I should, but I do.
00:12:49
Speaker 8: So anyway, that's where we're at.
00:12:51
Speaker 1: Okay, what do you say, what's the problem here.
00:12:55
Speaker 6: I'd want to get it in the shop and take a little closer look at it. I mean, just looking at the rifling on the barrel right now, it looks all right, but I'd want to get a closer look with the bor scope.
00:13:06
Speaker 1: Headspace, head space and all that kind of head.
00:13:08
Speaker 6: Space would definitely be one that I want to check because that could definitely, cause some flyers at the headspace is starting to go out.
00:13:15
Speaker 5: The crown looks in pretty good shape.
00:13:17
Speaker 6: So I'm not too concerned with that. I'm kind of leaning a lot more towards the headspace. Like I said, so, what do you think done?
00:13:25
Speaker 3: Were you having the same problem before you changed the stock out?
00:13:32
Speaker 8: No?
00:13:32
Speaker 9: I didn't, but I changed the stock out probably three or four years ago.
00:13:35
Speaker 8: It shot fine.
00:13:37
Speaker 1: You know.
00:13:37
Speaker 9: The variable was the scope, and I sent the scope back to Loophold and they said it was fine. They sent it back to me with you know, instructions of what they did. But I'm not sure that they ever fired the gun. I go, I just think it's rattling loose, and they said, no, it's good, so we'll see.
00:13:52
Speaker 8: And I mean it was. It's a good scope and all that.
00:13:55
Speaker 3: Stuff without without seeing ammunition and how it's actually flying in for you, because uh, you know, thirty out six kicks a little bit, yeah, and after you shoot a couple of shots, you shoulder gets a little sore. Maybe that flying that's on the Prius side of things, and I can hang in there a little drive Prius, but it's still a Prius.
00:14:15
Speaker 9: Forty years ago, I hung in there a little better than I do now, I think, you know, especially when I got my prius sitting there, and then I want to start shooting at that far.
00:14:22
Speaker 1: Seat, see where Crispy's out in the wood. I don't do that.
00:14:28
Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, well, you know what can you do?
00:14:32
Speaker 5: They try to keep up? Did did you check the alignment of the rings when when you installed.
00:14:37
Speaker 8: The I've changed the rings. I've done it.
00:14:40
Speaker 9: The problem I have is I've done too many variables at one time. Like I changed, I bought new rings, I got a new bassis and attached to the thing. I took him off again. This, my friend would tell you that this gun was shooting fine. Way to screw with it? And I go, I don't know. I just wanted to put a little bit nicer scope on it. That was the start of this whole show, you know, taking out the s.
00:15:02
Speaker 1: So what we're talking here not not the hard ware. It's on an operator.
00:15:07
Speaker 9: It's always user error with me, you know, But it's fun error too. We have a good time.
00:15:12
Speaker 1: You need to be here, you know, take it down to you know, paunch up, get yourself an ice A K forty seven. They shoot every time.
00:15:21
Speaker 9: But I'm really thinking about if if I just shot out I've got a problem, I'd like to reburrol it and maybe do a twenty five oh six. I've been thinking about that, just something that I can have fun with, you know. So anyway, I want to shoot it flat and fast and kill things.
00:15:37
Speaker 1: Can you turn that into a belt fed absolutely?
00:15:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, woodstock and all.
00:15:43
Speaker 8: Yeah, there I go.
00:15:44
Speaker 1: Is that beautiful? Okay? So how long is this going to take to diagnose and repair? All things being equal?
00:15:55
Speaker 5: I don't know.
00:15:55
Speaker 6: Sometimes sometimes we can get them done pretty quick. We try to stick with a quick turnaround. Projects like this can sometimes take a little bit longer. But I mean probably like three four weeks tops. We could probably have it figured out and possibly back to.
00:16:10
Speaker 4: You, I say, a half hour, half hour three document.
00:16:19
Speaker 2: He'd be golden.
00:16:20
Speaker 9: I got a gun by a stand in my car. I can go to work.
00:16:25
Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, we maybe get it done for the show's over.
00:16:28
Speaker 3: I mean, we've got a couple of guns. Are you transfer it over and we just get him an a K forty seven set the barrel for him. He'd be perfect for hunting.
00:16:37
Speaker 1: Sweet.
00:16:39
Speaker 3: Maybe turn that into a lever action.
00:16:41
Speaker 1: You know, the best part about the you know, when it takes the creed more out. Those Burgan stalks are really quiet out in the desert. Just say it.
00:16:51
Speaker 2: Along with the prius.
00:16:53
Speaker 1: I know. Well you guys, all right, nice sky, nice outdoorsman, ethical hunter. Any words, these things called crispies, what Chrispy's I don't even know what that is. If I wanted, face was like, huh anyway, it's all it's all good, it's all good. Okay. So your gunsmithing, uh portion of your gun works? How many gunsmiths do you have? Are you with or do you have associates and they're taking stuff apart?
00:17:35
Speaker 6: So so we've got I'm I'm the gunsmith, and then we have three armors so uh one one full time armor with me all week and then Nate and another armor raf are on Fridays and weekends.
00:17:50
Speaker 1: Okay. The pragmatic view of the obvious is this, I deal with a lot of gun chops, and there's a one of gunshops I won't deal with, you know, and we can talk about that offline. One of the big things is they profess to do stuff and they outsource it and the wait time is excessive. I have I have a good friend that has a shop in Scottsdale, and the attitude is to the point that you just don't want to deal with them, and then what should take you know, two days ends up taking months on end.
00:18:34
Speaker 2: Well, the key world word was Scottsdale. Well, I'm just so, we.
00:18:41
Speaker 6: Don't usually outsource anything if we can't do it in house. We're open and honest, and we'll let you know.
00:18:50
Speaker 5: We're also.
00:18:52
Speaker 6: I tend to overestimate on timelines because I would rather.
00:18:56
Speaker 5: Get it back to you earlier than way after I tell you.
00:19:00
Speaker 1: I mean, okay, what say you? How do you run your smithing business? First come, first serve.
00:19:06
Speaker 3: I mean, if I'm going to take a job on, then the point is to get it done and get it back out. You know a lot of people will come to the shop and they want to hand you three or four projects, and then I appreciate that, but let's start off with one. Yeah, I want you to see the work. I want you to leave here with a smile on your face, with something like you've had for forty years that you care about, and when you bring it to me, it's broken, but when you come to pick it up, the smile tells me everything. That I need to know.
00:19:34
Speaker 1: Okay, uh, do you have the ability to testifire in your shop?
00:19:41
Speaker 5: Sure?
00:19:41
Speaker 1: Do? Up up to what size caliber?
00:19:47
Speaker 6: Oh gosh, our shoot tank is rated up to I want to say, like five hundred Jeffrey or something. I have only gone up as high as thirty out six with it, but I mean it eats pretty much everything I've shot into it.
00:20:04
Speaker 1: Cool. Yeah, thirty six, that's certainly one of my favorites. All Right, we're gonna flip into a break here. When we come back, we're gonna talk a little bit about the saltwater side of life. Captain Bill Wilkerson is not on the horizon today. The weather is up, the boats are parked. But yesterday the Malaheedy had one hundred and seventy rockfish in. The big takeaway was the spirit of adventures out on a three day twenty four anglers. They've boted seventeen bluefin, four yellow tail, a bunch of rockfish along with the legend. They have not reported in yet. They've got the first report on a day and a half was twenty two anglers. They had a bunch of rockfish in no migratory pelagics. We'll see what Captain Bill has to say. I'm don Kdeale here with the Gang Fox Sports nine ten and we'll be back. Okay, we're trying to raise Captain Bill a couple other things. The timing right now is pretty good. If you guys are thinking about a multi day trip, I'll call Captain Bill you can. You can access him on horizonsport Fishing dot Com and get a reservation. Uh. These pelagics are really chewing on bait right now, and we've got a hiatus on the weather and we there's a pod of yellow fin moving up the slot. So uh, it's gonna be a total chaos if you don't mind me using that word on the Malaheeny boat and on the Horizons. So when you when we talked the other day, you found a pet boat on the somewhere between San Diego and Alpine. Yeah.
00:21:55
Speaker 2: I was on my way to see Twinkle Toes over here.
00:22:00
Speaker 1: Yeah jumah yeah.
00:22:01
Speaker 2: And I honestly I can't even remember the name of the town I was going through.
00:22:05
Speaker 1: Is oh, right next to Viejas Yeah okay, and with that big casino, yeah, right across the.
00:22:11
Speaker 2: Street, yeah, right across the street from it.
00:22:13
Speaker 1: I mean it's I don't know what to think about the casino. I've just driven by it.
00:22:17
Speaker 4: Yeah it's it's covered, but I mean it's it's a big, beautiful boat. And I pulled off and went and go looked at it. Yeah, he's asking a little much for it, but you know, anything's negotiable. But it's definitely a beautiful boat. And it's metal, it's not.
00:22:29
Speaker 1: Wood it is. Yeah, that's unique. Yeah, that is very unique. Yeah. The Melahenys Uh, I'm not going to say it's fly would but you know, h yeah, yeah floats.
00:22:44
Speaker 2: It would definitely make a good floating armory.
00:22:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, So what were they doing with the what was it just on display or.
00:22:52
Speaker 2: No, it's it's for sale really yeah, sitting right there off the right side of the highway. Can't miss it.
00:22:59
Speaker 1: Unbelievable.
00:23:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, what were they looks like a big yellow submarine.
00:23:03
Speaker 1: Literally, what were they pulling the damn thing with?
00:23:06
Speaker 2: I don't know.
00:23:09
Speaker 1: That think's you know, twenty by eighty and just tell you guys, you know the Malaheney boat that we're talking about August in nineteen forty five was commissioned pt. Six seventy one, and it actually it didn't see any Pacific theater. It went to Russia on a law program, came back and it's had an interesting career a bit at h and them landing since I think in nineteen sixty two. I first met the boat in seventy one or seventy two and spent a lot of time fishing on it. So let's get back to you. When your war games, I mean Wounded Warrior or war games are good.
00:23:55
Speaker 3: Yeah, this is the first year that it's been renamed to Department of War all war games, and I love it. Yeah, a lot of spotlight. Normally we have our international Marine partners that come out to our trials and then we'll have some other international partners come out to the Winded Warrior games with culture of the world. Right now it's just going to be US military, which takes a little bit off the edge, but that just allows the US to crush each other. I mean, of course, wheelchair rugby is called murder ball for a reason. It's the only sport where you can have disabled individuals go out of their way to make you even more disabled by the end of the game and then thank you for it. But the big, the big poll is going to be wheelchair basketball, and then the seated volleyball really gets heated up. With the coaches that we have out from the Paralympics teams.
00:24:50
Speaker 1: We've had some Paralympic stuff here in the valley in quite frankly, these guys are all, you know, high five and camaraderie, but they get out all the court. Oh mean, it's like gladiators trying to kill each other. It's amazing. You said it best. It's definitely war games once you get on the court. Yeah, absolutely, Now what do you put? What? What events are you're participating in?
00:25:15
Speaker 3: So I'll do the window warrior, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, seated volleyball, then I'll do rifle and pistol archery. This year instead of doing recurve, I came back. I have a gold medal and recurve, so now it's time to do compound. And then I forgot some swimming events, which is also fun to watch since you know, I've only got one foot, so when I go backwards, I definitely go off to the left more often than going straight. But instead of it trying to be fastest time, it's uh, who can get across the pool without drowning?
00:25:50
Speaker 1: It's a good competition. I love this guy. Yeah, he gets to the pool. They call it Bob.
00:25:57
Speaker 3: But you know, we get a lot of the UH disabled veterans together and we just share stories, we share lifestyles, we share our journeys and those experiences. You never know what battle somebody's fighting that's going to bring them back from the brink. So it's it's definitely needed. It's not a want, it's a need.
00:26:17
Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah, absolutely, yeah. Yeah. In terms of participants, I know you've got all the branches, but do you have any idea how many warriors are going to be participating.
00:26:31
Speaker 3: So we've got five teams. Forty is the max that you can bring. So some of the teams will come with the full forty. So come and the Marine Corps usually come a little bit light, just because we try to get more done with less. Of course, Air Force, you know they come with seventy five and say it's forty. Well, not saying they're cheating, but of course, I mean.
00:26:54
Speaker 1: What do you have for them? You know, a wheelchair golf or you know what.
00:26:59
Speaker 3: We you know, it's uninhabitable if there's not two hundred and seventy channels on the hotel room tv.
00:27:07
Speaker 1: JJ. You have anything to add to this conversation. I mean, he's so dramatic.
00:27:13
Speaker 9: I'm just you know, think of maintenance a flippant helicopter and get it up on the air.
00:27:16
Speaker 1: I love, oh my god, we love our Air Force.
00:27:21
Speaker 3: We give we give him the most stuff because you know, they're they're the sister air force that started after everybody else, the rest of us started back when the country started. Air Force decided to join in, you know late.
00:27:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, I get it, I get it. How long are you going to be back there?
00:27:39
Speaker 3: Uh so, we'll be there for a total of two weeks and the games are from the thirteenth to twentieth. It's gonna be televised and you can follow along with us.
00:27:49
Speaker 1: I'll be rooting for you. Is there already a financial assistance from the Wounded Warrior Foundation. It's about you know, lodging, travel, pretty all that kind of stuff.
00:28:00
Speaker 3: So we do get some you know, benevolent organizations to help out with the veterans because all the active the individuals.
00:28:08
Speaker 1: Are covered by the services, but.
00:28:11
Speaker 3: The veterans sometimes have to cover their own travel costs and their food costs, and so we've had you know, great organizations, Winny Warrior Project, chips in, We've had Fisher House chip in, We've had a Warrior Foundation out of San Diego chip in. It's been there's been some really good things that have happened from it.
00:28:32
Speaker 1: Okay, outstanding, Well, that's pretty amazing. So I know you're hanging out with Chemo and I and you know, doing some stuff which will be a conversation for another time, but let's get back to the four or six for a couple of minutes. How long before the transfers made and then what's going on with the new and over in Hawaii.
00:28:57
Speaker 4: Hopefully the transfer will be in the next I don't know, thirty days or so, just kind of waiting on some things. Kanakakoa the sites up and running, not completely up and running, but it's there.
00:29:16
Speaker 1: It's going to be.
00:29:18
Speaker 2: The new spin off as well. For the need of rifles in Hawaii.
00:29:22
Speaker 4: There's never been a rifle company in Hawaii ever, and the demands there. We have the contacts, the connections with some organizations there. There's definitely some funding that came in a conversation from the White House about DS and Department do OW about funding helping it a rifle company get established and change the rules of how Second Amendment is done in Hawaii. So we just happened to know the right people at.
00:29:56
Speaker 2: The right time.
00:30:00
Speaker 1: What does that mean? What is what we have you said? In Hawaii? Do they have a different set of rules than we do?
00:30:09
Speaker 4: It depends on where you're at. You know, you've got royal patent land, sovereignty land, so the rules are are different.
00:30:16
Speaker 1: So okay, I get it. Okay, Yeah, So that's why going to the White Mountain, a patche tribe don't take your guns.
00:30:24
Speaker 2: Yeah. So, and and that's what we're doing.
00:30:26
Speaker 4: So it's going to be it's going to be definitely an amazing rifle company, and it's definitely got some really good backing with it. And the outcome of this rifle company will be just it'll be amazing because it's going to feed a lot of different entities, not only for the US, but the sovereignty of Hawaii as well, and the local ranchers and and so on and so on.
00:30:50
Speaker 3: But it's got to be done right.
00:30:52
Speaker 2: It's got to be done right.
00:30:53
Speaker 10: And the biggest thing is you know, not not quality, no, not not quantity, but quality of the rifle and maintaining what we've been doing with the four h six so and bringing Mike on board, you know, helping with some of these contracts will just really just push the quality.
00:31:12
Speaker 2: Especially between all of that.
00:31:13
Speaker 1: That's the main thing. Because you know we're talking with our friend over here. You know that there's a lot of junk out there, Yeah, retail junk. Yeah, and uh, you know it's not safe and you know it's not for to the buyer.
00:31:25
Speaker 4: And yeah, and there's a lot of amazing rifle companies out there, especially in Montana too, you know, And like I said, we're focused on the quality more than anything else. I'd rather sell ten rifles and I know whether it's somebody using it for home defense or officer's using it on patrol, it's got our name on it and that's important to us.
00:31:45
Speaker 1: Okay, one final question. We got to flip into a break here. Uh, the master sergeant is known as a goat wringler. What do you know about that? Man?
00:31:55
Speaker 2: We can't we can't say that.
00:31:59
Speaker 3: Some things just aren't radio.
00:32:01
Speaker 2: I thought we couldn't say four letter words.
00:32:03
Speaker 1: I'll spend a little bit too much lam in Afghanistan? Did you?
00:32:05
Speaker 2: Oh?
00:32:07
Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna flip into a break. When we come back, we're gonna try one more time to get a hold of Captain Bill. I'm Dominkdal Fox Sports nine ten. All right, we're back. You know I talked a little bit about the Yeah, the Saltwater count. If you guys are planning on going fishing, your first stop should be Phoenix Fishing at sixteenth Street, just south of Camelback to respool, have a check your clutch drags, make sure everything's working in like Arcie says, more oil, lots of oil. You gotta have oil, so remember that. Can write that down. So that's good stuff. And then we'll clue you in. We'll have Captain Bill on next week. We'll talk about baseline, top shot, U lead, uh, size, length and all that because these uh, these fin Yeah guys, it's it's amazing. You'll be catching twenty five to forty five pound fish and then all of a sudden, all all kinds of chaos breakslows one hundred and fifty to two hundred and fifty pound class comes through. They're pinning you to the rail breaking stuff. I mean, it's totally amazing. It's just it's nuts. Been there, done that, I can't even describe it, you know, because it's it just happens so fast. So you know, one minute you're standing there chewing on your cheeseburger, the next minute slammed into the rail. So anyway, you mentioned about I want to go fishing. What what are you thinking?
00:33:38
Speaker 4: Well, you know, we're heading to San Diego on twenty ninth. As you know, Joseph my Son, his mom works for MLB, so him LB. Yeah, i've heard those initials ball the wrong three letter identify.
00:33:56
Speaker 1: King goes what what?
00:33:58
Speaker 2: Yeah?
00:33:59
Speaker 4: So he runs the Fall League. I don't want to butcher, but something like that. So Joe's in the Angel League. He's fourteen, is playing with a lot of the older kids. So he does very well for being fourteen.
00:34:13
Speaker 1: Woun't you tell me he was playing with eighteen years old? Yeah?
00:34:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's playing with older boys doing baseball.
00:34:20
Speaker 1: And you need to scout this kid. Yeah, he's really good.
00:34:23
Speaker 4: And don if you're listening, there's there's a scout sitting next to me. You probably know where Donna Peterson.
00:34:32
Speaker 2: Anyways, so they're going down there and they're playing at pet Cofield. If that's what it's called, I don't know. No, Park pet pet something.
00:34:42
Speaker 1: So are you taking the masters sergeant with you?
00:34:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to go down there.
00:34:47
Speaker 1: Why do they quarantine the goats from Arizolta to California.
00:34:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're about to find out.
00:34:51
Speaker 3: Okay, I thought that was just a border patrol check station. Why do I always have to get out.
00:34:59
Speaker 2: For good reason?
00:34:59
Speaker 1: Sir?
00:35:01
Speaker 4: So we're gonna go down there on the twenty ninth. Then we're gonna hang out see Joey's games. And then I thought, you know, talking about Captain Bill all the time, about the time we all meet up.
00:35:10
Speaker 1: And you know, we can jump on the Malaheeny boat. It's pretty easy. Would have to be at the landing about oh four thirty roughly and get signed in. You're gonna have to have everybody got passports, yeah, mostly mostly, Okay, Well it just depends on what they're doing. They're probably gonna be in shore, so all you're gonna need. You know, the Mexican government's got to figure it out how to screw us every time we turn around. You gotta have a Mexican visa regards of what you're doing, uhcause you go out San Diego Bay turnal after in Mexico I mean right there, right right there, and uh, the rest of us pretty easy. You get on board, stole your gear. You need one little gear bag, just stuff, uh some block glasses for him. I'd say probably a change underwear, but that's the story for another time.
00:36:13
Speaker 4: I mean, at this rate, it sounds like when I placed in the Master decigument with one hundred and sixty is sore.
00:36:18
Speaker 1: Yes, we can take care of gear rental right there. Bill's got some stuff on the boat, but H and M and he's got a great tackle shop. You need a couple of rods reels, you know, two ones, a backup, well, most likely pull out of the bay, turn right, go up to green tank. That's what they call it because right on the point there's a big green water tank. Yeah, you know it's a landmark.
00:36:47
Speaker 2: Do we need to do a Coast Guard inspection befre we.
00:36:49
Speaker 1: Go, Yes, sir, you know you know exactly where I'm talking about. So the cult force is there in Historically you'll sink cut bait. I don't use cut bait. I don't like what I use live bait once in a while, only a half too. But I'm big on bouncing swim baits on the bottom, but a bounce and a half triangular head with three dimensional eyes, and you know, just have a great time. These guys that are running the half day trips. The Premiere is fairly good sized boat. They ran AM and PM trip last night. They reported in they had forty two people on board. Fifty one red rock fish, thirty seven regular rock fish, three sculpting two sheephead, which is exceptional table fare. If you boil it, it tastes exactly like lobster. I love lobster, so catching the sheep head is outstanding. And then every once in a while the barracuda popped their heads up the Grande. It was at the Coronett Aislands in bill Mayko to the Coronado, so you're gonna be down there throwing, throwing bait. Hopefully the yellow tail chew nineteen people on board the Grande. Forty one rock fish, thirty eight white fish, which is extremely good table fare. Uh, some more red rock fish, six paracooter who decided to chew. Uh. Somebody got lucky and in boated to a lin cod, which is I can't tell you how good that is. Just old fish and you know it's just really great. Same thing on the these other boats. The Vendetta uh is running am am trips. End of the day, you'll be back at the dock, usually between five and six. If we're on fish, really on fish. Uh Bill. Bill will say, uh, you want to go home? Or do you want to fish? What do you want to do?
00:38:59
Speaker 2: Keep fish?
00:39:00
Speaker 1: Yeah?
00:39:00
Speaker 2: Of course.
00:39:01
Speaker 4: So yeah, it would be a great trip because you know, we went just kind of get the families together, come down Coca and Ira, hang out for a couple of days. Yeah, Uh, to see Joe in and obviously we're going from there. We're going back home to I like you for ten twelve days. So our goal is to be going back home every two months or so hopefully.
00:39:20
Speaker 2: So it's got a lot of business.
00:39:22
Speaker 1: Okay, So are you in for fishing?
00:39:24
Speaker 3: I'm all in for fishing. I need a little life jacket for my leg.
00:39:28
Speaker 1: You in? You in? Okay? All right? We gotta flip into a break here. Uh, I'm getting the single finger again. So uh we'll get this thing wrapped up. Come back in Uh more Chaos abdal mcdell, Fox Sports nine ten. Okay, no no coffee in Chaos today. Uh. Well, actually that's not true. We got a lot of coffee. We got a lot of chaos. So, uh, coffee and chaos, as we've talked about, has been replaced by coffee and come. And that's Captain Chemo here and MASTERSS Sergeant Big Daddy Burns from Juma and Uh, then we've got Mike and Nate from the Gun Company. Uh, let's talk a little bit about Mike. What you've got coming up. You've got a new calendar and all kinds of stuff. Give us a rundown.
00:40:24
Speaker 6: Yeah, So starting this week, we are launching a basically a tune Up weekly readiness calendar. So we're doing discounting price discounted prices on Tuesdays for pretty much anything optics, So pretty much everything as far as ironsight installs, optic installs, scope leveling, all that is half price on Tuesdays Fridays. With the two hundred dollars tax on NFA stuff going down to zero, a lot of people are doing Form ones and they need to get those engravings done once that forms approved. So we're doing a discounted Form one or Form one engravings on Friday and then on Saturdays, since most people go out shoot matches or go to the range, on the weekends. We're offering discounted cleanings on Saturdays.
00:41:09
Speaker 1: Okay, tell me about this compliant laser engraving. Yeah, that's all about.
00:41:15
Speaker 6: Yeah, so, whenever you take a rifle and you want to make it an SBR.
00:41:19
Speaker 5: You need to get an engraving.
00:41:21
Speaker 1: Tell everybody what that is.
00:41:23
Speaker 5: So under the.
00:41:23
Speaker 6: National Firearms Act Act, if you take a rifle and shorten the barrel below sixteen inches, it becomes an SBR. So if you do that, you need to submit a Form one and get approved by the ATF before you can actually turn it into that shortbell rifle. Once you do that, then you got to get an engraving put onto the lower to say that you manufactured it in the city and the state that it was manufactured in, and that makes it compliant to the NFA and the ATF.
00:41:52
Speaker 1: It's not something you can buy at Walmart parking lot.
00:41:55
Speaker 3: Yeah, they'll try.
00:41:56
Speaker 2: To understand what an SBR is.
00:41:58
Speaker 5: Short barrel rifle.
00:42:00
Speaker 8: I'm just kidding, just think it.
00:42:04
Speaker 6: But yeah, so, and the ATF has weird requirements on how deep the engraving has to be and how big the letters have to be and all that. So we make sure that all that's in compliance for anybody getting those form ones done.
00:42:15
Speaker 1: Peter, is that something you can do Defender Engravy.
00:42:19
Speaker 11: No, I don't have the licensee for it because I live in a homeowners associating.
00:42:25
Speaker 1: Okay, but you have the machine. Oh yeah, okay, all right, but you got to talk about these amazing holsters.
00:42:33
Speaker 2: Come on, I'm trying to promote you here, bro, Come on, Mikelbeans.
00:42:39
Speaker 6: So. Yeah, so we do custom Kaidex holsters as well, and we we kind of going back to what we were talking about earlier with prioritizing work. Holsters being a big draw for us is one of those things that we try to pump our holsters out pretty fast. Usually within a week. We try to get the holster back because a lot of times we'll mold the holster directly off the firearm itself. So if that's someone's daily carry, we don't want to hold on to it for, you know, several weeks while they're waiting on just a holster, so we try to pump him out as fast as we can. For Chemo, he came in on Friday and wanted it done quick, so we had it done back to him the next day, so we do offer an expedited service, and we can we can get them back to the same day even sometimes sometimes next day.
00:43:26
Speaker 4: So and they're really nice, really nice. They hold up well beyond impressed. I mean, you know he does this in in the way, spend out of way, span all in one. You know, didn't think, you know, hey, it's Captain Kmo. The hell with this guy. We'll just make it one. But you know, I won't hold it against them, Okay.
00:43:46
Speaker 3: And it's and he's doing it with whatever accessories that are on the weapon, which is the most important part. So when you go on on Amazon and you want to or you can't buy that, that's not going to be there. But well, now you take it in there and you get it exactly the way your EEDC is set up.
00:44:02
Speaker 6: Yeah, and we go through like a full planning with you on if you ever plan on changing the sites, we'll do a taller site channel for the holse there how high you want the sweat guard.
00:44:12
Speaker 5: We have different color Kaydaks that we use.
00:44:15
Speaker 6: We have patterns Kaidak patterned Kayaks that we use, different thicknesses of Kaydaks.
00:44:21
Speaker 5: We do level two duty style holsters as well.
00:44:23
Speaker 6: I mean kind of anything you want, and a lot of shops too.
00:44:28
Speaker 5: They'll also up charge for if you have a light on there.
00:44:31
Speaker 6: Honestly though, for me, I'm using the same amount of material if you got a light or you don't, so I don't charge you any extra if you got a light.
00:44:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a laser on a nineteen eleven. Yeah, and it will not fit in anything.
00:44:45
Speaker 5: Bring it on.
00:44:47
Speaker 4: I can tell you I'm beyond happy with it. It's amazing quality. The craftsmanship is awesome. You know, it's great at and it's for you going to They have free snacks. Yeah, that's that's huge.
00:45:01
Speaker 6: Yeah, we got we got a couch with the TV. We got snacks, drinks that you can. We do a lot of while you wait, services too, So like a lot of the it's like it's.
00:45:10
Speaker 4: Like going to the car dealer and you're watching TV, got water, sodas, snacks.
00:45:14
Speaker 2: I mean, dude, it's well, can we say, yeah, I just I.
00:45:18
Speaker 5: Mean it's better than standing there just staring at the salesperson.
00:45:20
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:45:21
Speaker 8: Yeah.
00:45:22
Speaker 4: But the best part is the quality that you get with with taking your stuff to him. You know, you're not just going there for the snacks and the environment. The environment the craftsmanship, everything, it's all there. It's it's a one done stop shop, and it's just thank you for for having such an amazing store and you.
00:45:42
Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I mean, and I think some of that for me goes back to my background because being being where I was at when I was kind of learning the ropes of working on guns. You know, it was Delta Force guys and rangers and seals, and they're they're on the ground and it's like, hey, if if our guns don't work when they want.
00:46:00
Speaker 5: Us, like they're screwed, you know.
00:46:02
Speaker 6: So we always had this pressure on us, like your gun's gonna work every single time.
00:46:08
Speaker 4: The only biggest downfall I could say about his shop, and it's the most just the pressing thing is that there's no Montana for or six.
00:46:16
Speaker 2: Rifles in there, not yet, not yet. But you know, we're working on it.
00:46:21
Speaker 5: We pa. We do have two dogs that are there every day every.
00:46:25
Speaker 4: Well, I'm not a dog person, I'm not an animal person. If you notice they stayed away, hey, we got a lot of people.
00:46:32
Speaker 1: You see what you said, he's trying to distance himself from the goat. Unbelievable. I still want to know what the quarantine time is.
00:46:50
Speaker 2: There isn't one, you know, couldn't you ask me? It's the fire department?
00:46:54
Speaker 1: What that is? Oh? Yeah that no, yeah, sure.
00:46:58
Speaker 3: It's like going to Mexico. You have to get the quick path. Okay, yeah, thank you.
00:47:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you're well, you're right there, you know, you go to your maternal aft Mexico. Yeah.
00:47:07
Speaker 3: One foot in, one foot out.
00:47:08
Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, So what's what's the timeframe theoretically getting four all six arms in in the mic store.
00:47:18
Speaker 4: We're gonna wait until the transition then go from there, So probably next thirty days or so.
00:47:24
Speaker 1: Cool.
00:47:26
Speaker 4: All right, then that'll be the most perfect gun shop ever. It really will because he'll have amazing rife. He has amazing stuff. Anyways, I just I like to pick on him, but I mean to be able to have good quality rifles and have people be able to come in and make changes, you know what I mean besides off the rifles side, because you could build and design the rifle yourself. But you know, if we have the different models in his shop, you know the same quality and craftsmanship. You know, he knows what we're doing and how we're doing it.
00:47:57
Speaker 1: Well, you know, I agree with my friend RC. You know, I mean, there's so much junk out there right now, and he's had multiple examples. Uh, you know, in the last couple of weeks. The guys that are building stuff by themselves, they buy this, they buy that, they put together and they in the right that won't work. And you know, ammunition was a big deal for one gentleman. Yeah. Yeah, apparently had some reloads that were having some malfunctions and it's not safe. You get hurt doing that, easy enough.
00:48:31
Speaker 6: So well, I mean even a good example of that would be Kentucky Ballistics with that whole fifty cal incident.
00:48:36
Speaker 5: A few years ago.
00:48:38
Speaker 6: He bought he bought ammo that apparently had been reloaded and his fifty cow blew up and almost killed him.
00:48:44
Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, holy yeah, Yeah, that's a big deal. Let's talk a little bit about optics. Uh, that's that's the next equation, you know, you know, getting a tear one firearms one thing, but then you little optics in optics are as much as you want to spend. Yeah, you know, there's the practicality of it all, and then there's the ego side of it, you know. I mean, there's no sense in spending ten grand for a scope there's no sense in spending three thousand dollars for a stock, you know, and all all this crap.
00:49:20
Speaker 4: So you say no, I mean, it depends on what you're trying to do. We're I I really support met pro Optics. You know, I got a lot of connections there. So when you start talking about like red dots and true vision stuff for them, stuff up close and personal all the way up to you know, three.
00:49:39
Speaker 1: Handguns or one thing, okay, you know that'll work. So if you're going to get it statistically, if you're going to get in a gunfight, it's going to be fifteen to eighteen feet okay, you know that multiple memory kicks in hell with the red dot, you know, point squeeze. But you know we're talking in getting into a self defense long range in short range, right.
00:50:00
Speaker 2: Uh.
00:50:01
Speaker 1: The guys in here we hunt, so you know, uh he's a hunter. Reads a hunter. Gay, Jay's a hunter. Uh Ken's gonna be if we get his uh feuter fixed. Yeah.
00:50:12
Speaker 2: But uh oh, you know Matt pro Optics have the the m v O s.
00:50:17
Speaker 4: They got a great line too, So I mean I got quite a few of them on my rifles.
00:50:22
Speaker 2: I love him so.
00:50:25
Speaker 1: Well. Those are definitely uh, you know, battle proven. You know, they built for the Israeli Defense Force and apparently they're.
00:50:33
Speaker 3: Working quite well and they're still hunting.
00:50:36
Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah they are.
00:50:38
Speaker 3: You just can't get a tag for that.
00:50:40
Speaker 1: Yeah. What what what's the back limit?
00:50:43
Speaker 3: I think it's unlimited right now?
00:50:44
Speaker 1: Cool? Yeah?
00:50:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, so that's pretty much what we use. But Mike has a full line of stuff.
00:50:51
Speaker 1: Okay, let's let's stay with uh uh coach Ken with US thirty out six? What are you recommending to go on? You know what scope? You know?
00:51:04
Speaker 4: I like the thirty six by fifty six FFP by met Pro.
00:51:08
Speaker 2: That's great optic, but I mean tactical. Yeah, but I mean you're you're also talking about an optic that's four thousand dollars.
00:51:16
Speaker 4: So I don't know if you want something like that. I don't know, an eighteen hundred dollars round. I don't know what that rifle costs new, I mean forty years old. I'm sure you know back then, forty years ago, when he bought it, it was still hefty price.
00:51:29
Speaker 1: Yes, now now it's elevated price because it's an antique. Yeah, well yeah, yeah, you can't go buy that rifle today.
00:51:39
Speaker 6: Yeah, not at the quality it was back No, Yeah, well, I mean even the shape that that rifle's in now.
00:51:46
Speaker 2: I mean, good luck finding one as nice as that. I mean, if you're going just for looks that that's a great rifle.
00:51:53
Speaker 1: That's what he does. Yo, he shoulders and he's sashy in now at thirties. Booty cutter, his booty cutterspers Yeah, next to the priaz. Yeah, I'm so sorry. Ken. I have the rights to remain silent, but I don't have the ability. All right, poor Ken. Okay, there there goes my season pass right there. I'm done. All right, we gotta flip into a break. When we come back, we're going to talk to the Master Sergeant about his his gun business and how you can interact in downtown Yuma. I'm done, mcdal Fox Sports nine ten. Okay, we're going to dispense with Chris Ritch he's out of phone range and James Coogan hour at eight thirty. We're having some technical issues, so we're just gonna go right straight to it. Now. Can you had a question? Do you want to pose that question? Question? Yeah? Talking to the mic so so everybody can hear.
00:52:57
Speaker 9: Yeah, The question was my son was interested in maybe in getting into the gun business, be a smith, and how what's the process and how do these guys get into it? Because it's you know, it's a great it's fascinating, you know what goes on with rifles and guns, and oh absolutely who wants to feel that.
00:53:14
Speaker 5: I guess I'll go first.
00:53:16
Speaker 1: You both can talk at the same time, capable though, that's probably.
00:53:21
Speaker 3: Well, we're both alumni too, so it makes sense.
00:53:24
Speaker 5: Yeah, we both went to the same school for gunsmithing.
00:53:26
Speaker 2: We held hands at school.
00:53:28
Speaker 5: I graduated two years earlier, but I'm.
00:53:30
Speaker 3: Just saying it takes me longer to get it, I guess.
00:53:34
Speaker 6: So for me with the bat with the military background, it was just kind of natural for me to keep going and and I was too stubborn to stop working on guns. And I eventually hit a point where it was like, I can I can do this better, So I'm going to start my own shop.
00:53:51
Speaker 5: And I guess my experience may be slightly different than others.
00:53:57
Speaker 3: School or a line or Yeah.
00:53:59
Speaker 6: I did attend to school, and it was it was cool because I got to learn stuff. But I did do the Snoring Desert Institute and it's all online. The the thing with that, I feel like is if you don't already have kind of a foundation work off of it's it's going to be really difficult. But if you already have a good foundation, you learn the stuff they teach you, and then you actually practice it, you can get pretty good at that stuff. So and that's where I think a lot of this comes down to, is just learn something and then just keep doing it so you get good at it and do it on your own stuff.
00:54:36
Speaker 8: First credit accreditation process so you get.
00:54:39
Speaker 9: Agree and all that stuff, so that if you walk into your shop and you're just not some guys thats just started working on guns last week pretty much.
00:54:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, So it's a caveat off of what you're saying. Having the military background already in weapons training, weapons abilities, weapons takedown, and maintenance it definitely helps. But going through the Sonoran Desert Institute also kind of gives you some access to parts of gunsmithing that you normally wouldn't get. And there's a lot of self proclaimed smith's out there. I mean, you go on YouTube, every single one of them will tell you they're a gunsmith. Oh yeah, yeah, and every single one of them will tell you the one thing that they're really good at. But going through the course getting your certification as a gunsmith an advanced armorer, and then you also walk away with a degree, an associates degree in firearm sciences. It gives you the background and the baseline to start out correctly so you don't start off with bad habits. You'll see in a lot of the videos on these different sites where self proclaimed smith will tell you this is the best way to do it, and you're like, absolutely not, that's the worst way. That's how you're going to damage somebody's you know, in some sense of the word priceless objects. Going through the school helps out, but then it's all about repetition. So, especially if they're just starting out at the perfect time is to go in when a gun shop's doing deep dive cleanings on weapons. That way they can see the process of taking it apart correctly retaining the parts. It's kind of key, and then also the correct way to put it back together, because they'll tell you that the way you took it apart the way it goes back together, and that's not true. No, that's how you break a lot of parts.
00:56:22
Speaker 6: And the weird part to me, is it seems like gunsmithing is just it's it's kind of a dying art. Because we were talking about this just yesterday. There's so many people getting three D printers and just printing parts and like the actual art of gunsmithing is just kind of fading and it sucks. But I mean, find somewhere that he could apprentice, maybe it would be a good thing. That's kind of what Nate ended up doing with us. But I would also add to that too, you know, check where where they're apprenticing at and make sure it's someone that actually knows what they're doing, because there's a lot of people, like you said, that claim to be gunsmiths and they work on ars and glocks.
00:56:58
Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. That's one of the questions I have with your military background. You're coming in with a lot of semi automatic, uh and you know, belt fed and full automatic. How do you make a transition to conventional firearms?
00:57:15
Speaker 6: That was tough for me when I first started messing the civilian ars and I'm like, where's the seer?
00:57:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean it's it's actually just completely horrible legs.
00:57:27
Speaker 6: It's it's it's almost a little bit simpler though, because it's like cool, when I pulled the trigger it goes off one time.
00:57:33
Speaker 1: Well, it's it's simpler, you know. So if a guy comes down hand you of U thirty thirty level actions, level actions, say hey, I won't chamber. You're gonna look at it and go yeah, good luck.
00:57:45
Speaker 6: No, I will take it in the back and tear it apart and figure out exactly what's misaligned or what part is broken, or whatever the case is, and figure out how to get it to actually feed.
00:57:55
Speaker 5: Because going back to what we were talking.
00:57:56
Speaker 6: About earlier, that mentality of you know, someone's life is on the line if this thing doesn't go bang when they go oh yeah, that's that's in me forever.
00:58:06
Speaker 1: That's why I like AK forty seven.
00:58:08
Speaker 5: They do run One other thing that I.
00:58:11
Speaker 2: Stop it, Dave, I hope you're listening.
00:58:14
Speaker 6: One other thing I will throw out for us as a shop too, that we do slightly different is we bill by quarter hour. A lot of shops you go to charge that upfront hour just to even take it in. We do fifteen minute increments for billing no matter what. So if it takes me fifteen minutes to do whatever it is, that's all you.
00:58:34
Speaker 1: Pay for, So do you agree disagree?
00:58:39
Speaker 3: The hardest part about gunsmithing is billing because I could spend eight hours just researching what's going to be wrong where I can find the part to replace it, especially in historical weapons, but I can't bill you for eight hours. I mean, nobody's going to pay for their weapon at that case. So a lot of times it comes into what am I willing to take? What am I willing to do? And for the most part, the customers are phenomenal because anybody that wants to make something that's historical, stay historical, and actually run again, they're willing to do whatever it takes. Sure, but being in this business, it's very easy to take advantage of that, and so that's where it comes into. If you're going to apprentice with somebody you want to the reputation, the education and their experience is huge, because.
00:59:31
Speaker 1: Eight hours or so corruct me if I'm wrong. This is like, you know, the way this is evolving, It's going to be like going to see an attorney. You have to make an appointment for a consultation. Then they tell you to get out. So you make an appointment for two weeks from now you come back in and we're charging by the quarter hour. Come on now, saying I can see where this is going. I don't know offer that at my shop.
00:59:57
Speaker 3: And that's only because I'm a smaller shop. These guys are running a lot more activities, will say, within their shop because they offered pretty much everything under the sun when it comes to it. But at the same time, there's morals.
01:00:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you have to you have to be.
01:00:17
Speaker 3: You know, morally based.
01:00:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's kind of why we did it that way.
01:00:21
Speaker 6: Because we had a guy come in with us just need to set of sites, put onto a slide, and he had dropped it off somewhere else. They're charged in fifty bucks. It came back three weeks later. They hadn't even touched it. He brought it in us fifteen minutes later. His sites were Annie.
01:00:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, I could probably guess where that the first place you took it.
01:00:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a common theme. That's just about every city you go to right now. Any of the well to do gunsmithing shops, they don't want to do gunsmithing. It takes time, it's a money suck, and frankly, you can cost you more money because you're gonna break parts in the process, so they would rather you just replace it with a new gun. Oh, you're thirty odd six isn't working? You have some issues?
01:01:07
Speaker 1: Or have I got a.
01:01:08
Speaker 3: Deal for you for a new one? You know, it is cheaper the way that the you know it's built up right now with the gun companies, it's definitely cheaper just to start off with a new a new rifle together.
01:01:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I get it, I get it, but lot I like my old stuff. Just fix it. Okay. When we come back, you want to talk about the transfer to Hawaii and ways and means and how you're going to operate.
01:01:40
Speaker 2: We could touch a little on that.
01:01:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. So all right, we're gonna flip into a break here at Fox Sports Line ten. We'll be right back, all right, Master, Sorry, just you and me. Okay. So we've got a transition with the Farol six. What is the working theory of this gun store gun shop armory, if you will, in comparison to what Mikey shared with us, is there in house gunsmiths? Uh, We're going to have Sarah Coat engraving, betting, ramping, all that stuff.
01:02:22
Speaker 3: So for Montana four to six transition down to Uma Arizona, it's mainly the builds and then upgrading and accessorizing. But on the backside of it, on the third degree gunsmithing side would be all of the replacement upgrade. I don't do Sarah Cote. I do Durric Coat. It's a chemical bonding. People aren't as familiar with it. Sarah Cote is a great Is.
01:02:48
Speaker 1: That my Crylon?
01:02:51
Speaker 3: No?
01:02:51
Speaker 1: No, okay, just jacking.
01:02:52
Speaker 2: It's the Marine Corps Crant edition.
01:02:55
Speaker 3: Okay, hey, only the green ones are tasty.
01:02:58
Speaker 1: No.
01:02:59
Speaker 3: With Sarah Coo, there's you know, it's beautiful. You can do nice work with it. But if you damage it, you've got to rip it all off. No, so you use a sharpie only in the army.
01:03:12
Speaker 1: I've seen me do it. Stop it.
01:03:14
Speaker 3: But with Derekote, you know, if you get a chemical bonding that goes into the pores of the metal, it protects it. And then also if you damage it, it's easier to fix. I only have to fix that one area.
01:03:26
Speaker 1: I don't have to worry about on my uh, pray and spray. I've got a then then code of rust.
01:03:32
Speaker 3: It's fine, that's a perfect protecting for your gun.
01:03:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, it covers up the mud. There you go, and it'll fire, it will every time, every time.
01:03:45
Speaker 3: Well unless it's a French weapon, and then you know.
01:03:48
Speaker 1: I don't have anything French. I won't even He made me eat French fries the other day and I had choke on every day one of them. Well you know, mustardy catch up? Help It's good on it anything, No worries. Uh.
01:04:02
Speaker 3: The biggest, the biggest thing that I work on right now is making people's weapons that stopped working work again. I've I've spent more time on historical weapons recently than anything else because nobody will take the job.
01:04:17
Speaker 1: Well, one of the things that I've advocated here, you know, with long guns for sporting applications, I kind of went head to head with my son, God loveing me, and I'm not criticizing him. He's got the ways and the means, but uh, he had a three hundred win mag belt, he got a mcmellon stock junk. As far as I'm concerned, three thousand dollars. He's got enough money in there to buy a bolt wagon.
01:04:47
Speaker 3: Well, and you could go that route. I mean I could get Zeiss glass. You know and pay a mortgage payment for a house.
01:04:55
Speaker 1: Well, what what I've been advocating? Uh, I use myself as an exis and sometimes maybe it's not a good example, but I had a brand new three hundred weather be mag got a hardwood stock from Boyd's and I love their stocks. I have a couple of them. And it's got a recoil pad, one spring's adjustable cheek pad. So then the next step is finding somebody that understands betting, ramping, lapping and get this thing to fit. And went through the process and it took longer than it should have, like you guys are talking about, but it will drive tax and the optics on there, you know. So all in all, what I've got invested in mind is less than what Junior's got invested in a scope.
01:05:51
Speaker 3: Absolutely, and we've been head to head.
01:05:54
Speaker 1: But see, you.
01:05:54
Speaker 3: Also had the patience. And this is one thing I will say out there for everybody that's taken their there are hand me downs from family heirlooms all the way up. When you bring that to a gunsmith and you think that it's an oil change at an autoshop, you're saying, I'll just wait for that job to be done. That's not how it works. I mean, I've got to do research. I've got to make sure that I have everything on hand to fix whatever the problem is after I diagnose it. So being patient with a gunsmith is also a really big deal because you don't want to rush job.
01:06:29
Speaker 1: So what what what are you telling me? You guys are sensitive?
01:06:32
Speaker 5: No, we're not sensitive.
01:06:33
Speaker 1: But it's okay.
01:06:35
Speaker 6: An oil change analogy, right, Like you can bring it in thinking it's just an oil change, and then we tear into it and realize, now this needs an engine change.
01:06:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, and that just takes all.
01:06:44
Speaker 1: Get the same stuff with my doctor. Yeah, that's right.
01:06:48
Speaker 3: I'd be profen. Change your socks. You're good, drink.
01:06:50
Speaker 2: Water face, he gets his dodge.
01:06:53
Speaker 1: I'm awful propric I am on motoring. Here we go. Yeah, it does to do anything for my water weight gain and my pebbles. But I don't have cramps.
01:07:05
Speaker 3: That's a good thing.
01:07:05
Speaker 1: Walking off Hell yeah yeah? Well what what is the technological changes on betting material? What?
01:07:15
Speaker 2: What?
01:07:15
Speaker 1: What's the new use it used to be? You know, hardcore fiberglass and resin and all that kind of stuff.
01:07:21
Speaker 5: Acriglass, acroglass.
01:07:23
Speaker 6: The problem with you in acroglass for betting that I have is acriglasses is a little bit too too watery, so you.
01:07:29
Speaker 5: End up having to do.
01:07:32
Speaker 6: There's a lot of shaping, a lot of clean up after because it just kind of runs once you start putting it in there. There's another one. I think rock bed or rock I don't remember right now off the top of my head, but there's a few other compounds out there, a little more thick that are easier to lay down in the stock.
01:07:49
Speaker 5: And then once you said it it doesn't want to run out of.
01:07:51
Speaker 1: The stock when yeah, well that that's good information to have. What what do you got? I was recommending I want to kind of stay on optics, uh, you know, and I'm sorry I was picking on my son, but you know, just a disagreement with Dad. It came, oh you were talking about meper lighte and long guns. You know, I want to get back to a sporting application. Most of this stuff, under normal circumstances is under three hundred yards. And I've been a big advocate. You know. We talked to a lot of guys that well, you know I can shoot a thousand yards or no you can't. Well, yeah I can't. I said you, maybe you can, but your rifles not and once again using myself as an example, and this time it wasn't a very good example. I spent an inordinate amount of money trying to get a thirty out six consistently of a thousand.
01:08:48
Speaker 3: Yards and then you sold it to Ken?
01:08:51
Speaker 1: Was that?
01:08:52
Speaker 3: And then you sold it to Ken?
01:08:54
Speaker 1: No? No, no, I still have mine. I I you know, I just don't want to hit the you know, the five count bucket in a thousand yards. I can hit it at eight, but that that extra two hundred feet. Yeah, it's like stepping off a four story building.
01:09:10
Speaker 3: Well, I just do like everybody does at the range, just Kentucky Windage. That that's what they'll tell you.
01:09:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, been there, done that. Anyway, back to you, sir, let's say give me something that's that's quality.
01:09:25
Speaker 4: I'm telling you the the MRAD, the m v O. It's uh six by thirty six fifty six six. Yeah, it's an amazing optic man. I Well, the only problem you're paying for it. But it's worth it.
01:09:38
Speaker 2: It'll it'll do what you want it to do if you're trying to get down range.
01:09:42
Speaker 1: Okay, that six power is going to be depending on where where you hunt. If you're hunting in the pine trees up in the mountains, you need you need four because a lot of those shots, you know, you put a six power on, you got cranked all the way down, all you're going to see his hair.
01:09:57
Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, so sometimes hair's good just to see.
01:10:03
Speaker 1: Why did I know that was fine?
01:10:05
Speaker 2: Why I'm splitting hairs?
01:10:08
Speaker 3: I mean, well, we're talking about two different things too.
01:10:11
Speaker 1: We're talking about I have to ask, with all due respect, what do you know about hair?
01:10:17
Speaker 2: I mean, you know this PG show, Okay, yeah, yeah.
01:10:24
Speaker 1: That's a general thing. You know, we're you know, we do a lot of desert hinting and uh six powers good, six powers awesome, But up in the pine trees, yeah, I can't tell you. With with this new three hundred wind bag had one hundred and forty three yard head on shot with an ELK. It was a toss up where that bullet was going to hit because I was guessing because all I saw was you know, hurt of hair and it went to the right place. So anyway, you know, if I had a four power, you know, I could see what I was shooting at had beholder.
01:10:58
Speaker 3: Oh, I mean you could also go out on El Khunt and you're shooting across the canyon, so you're gonna need that extra power to reach out and touch.
01:11:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, my age. I'm not shooting across the canyon because then I have to go down the canyon, up the canyon and drag this thing back in and call Read and Ken.
01:11:13
Speaker 3: Hey, can you bring the team yeaheah, but I give you a leg make it easier to carry it out. That'll be one leg up on it. You're awesome. Okay, okay, Bob.
01:11:26
Speaker 2: All right, E mean like a three eighteen by forty four FFP will do exactly what you're saying. If you just don't want to see hair and you want to see him Patio, this.
01:11:39
Speaker 1: Is going sideways. Get us out of here, take a still break. We'll be back here on Fox Sports. My intent, Paul right, I want to thank everybody for joining us today, taking time out of your day to join us in our house, and UH hope you learned something. I've got a studio full of great people in here, and uh, I want to thank you everybody for coming down. It's an honor to have you guys in here. In Uh, Peter, you have been extremely quiet. Tell us quickly about Defender and gravy. He does a lot of work for him. Totally satisfied with it. Hats and mugs and magazines, magazines. Yeah, pretty much.
01:12:19
Speaker 11: I can do everything except what is required for an FFL. I just can't get that permit with my situation. Basically, I do my engraving for fun and I have a great time doing it.
01:12:32
Speaker 1: I do tumblers knives. Yeah, you did a good job on mine. Thank you, Thank you quite welcome.
01:12:38
Speaker 11: And you can reach me at Defendergraving dot Coe dot com or you can reach me on my cellphone four EIGHTHO eight six one nine seven two four.
01:12:48
Speaker 1: Okay, let me ask you one question. If you didn't have the ankle bracelet, you could get the ATF scamp. That is correct. I guess Kenny doesn't have one. I have two ankle braces. Okay. Well, oh yes, that's as good as a toll ring.
01:13:06
Speaker 2: Right, I take it that out of aol Branklet's a wedding ring.
01:13:09
Speaker 1: I have that too, So that's three going down that road. All right, let let's get all your stuff where you located. Wa'ts your phone number. I'll give your cell phone out so they can call you home after ten.

01:14:05
Speaker 5: Uh, we don't get a basement, but we got an upstairs with a gym, so yeah, I'll be up there.
01:14:10
Speaker 1: No, they had him in the freezer. Yeah, that's good to know. All right, Master sergeant, what what's all your stuff? How does everybody get a hold of you? All right?
01:14:18
Speaker 3: You can get a hold of me at third degree gunsmithing. So that's three r d degree gunsmithing.
01:14:26
Speaker 1: Uh.
01:14:27
Speaker 3: We operate out of a shop at the address one four three one five South Saturn Avenue, Summrton, Arizona, eight five three five.
01:14:38
Speaker 1: Oh boy, you're a hop skipping a jump from the water.
01:14:41
Speaker 3: It's right there. Oh man, it's a hot topic.
01:14:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure there back in the day, I always here that the guy that built that Somerton Jail, that all important place concrete. Mmm, that was one hell of a job.
01:14:55
Speaker 3: I can imagine.
01:14:56
Speaker 1: First day on the job, somebody stole or order. We had a six thirteen scraper. It was gone.
01:15:05
Speaker 3: Well, they had a special deal on the other side of the border for.
01:15:08
Speaker 1: It, they did. But anyway, go ahead and start to interrun.
01:15:11
Speaker 3: That's a cheap buyback.
01:15:13
Speaker 1: Uh.
01:15:13
Speaker 3: And then we're at nine two eight five five zero eight four nine zero. That's my cell and it gets straight to my voicemail. So that way I can take the orders in small gun shop. I'm not as big as Venner over here, so I only take it on the jobs that I can do, and then we can set up a day and time for appointments in the future.
01:15:34
Speaker 1: No, are you on a website?
01:15:36
Speaker 3: Not yet, not yet working on it. Still still on my infant stages.
01:15:40
Speaker 1: Okay, well it's you know, we all go to start someplace.
01:15:44
Speaker 3: And I and I love it. The satisfaction of what you can do for somebody else, is you know, being in service to somebody. That's good for the soul, it's good for business.
01:15:54
Speaker 1: Well, keep keeping these these weapons going is uh is a challenge. Except on my AK forty seven, it just operates all the time. It's just no problem at all. None. Stop it. Don't look at me like that.
01:16:06
Speaker 2: I'm not I'm liking to look in your direction.
01:16:11
Speaker 3: I can tell donegi's and steelcasing toll.
01:16:13
Speaker 2: Yeah.
01:16:15
Speaker 1: Anything to add on behalf of the Kansas City Royals.
01:16:18
Speaker 9: Well, I'd like to see our big league team get a going a little bit, and we will.
01:16:22
Speaker 8: We're just a little bit of a slump.
01:16:23
Speaker 1: But you know, things are great. It's all good.
01:16:26
Speaker 8: It's all good if the big league team wins.
01:16:28
Speaker 1: Okay, well there you go, all right, coming up, We've got Matt sure, we're getting him scheduled to come back in. We've got to get back to fishing. The bite over at Roosevelt continues to be really good with the water patterns that we have always suggest, reaction baits, suspending hard stick baits, dirk baits. If you will early in the morning your top water the hammer Shad five seventy four rear Rico in both sizes is working quite well. I would be the big rico early in the morning, and then after nine o'clock I switched to the smaller one and go to a finesse pop pop paths, let the ripples dissipate, and then pop it and let it sit. And don't be afraid to throw top water all day long, especially about oh Rabbit Island out there. I'd be out there eleven thirty throw on top water. The fish are packing, we call them wolf packs. I'll come up and eat. And a lot of good fish being caught out there. The water levels somewhere between forty and salt rivers. About done. Running a couple of things. We are approaching very rapidly. Fire season. We've already had a number of fires. They're all bad, but not roll devastating as of yet. The landscape which is extremely dry and chains. R C had a great idea of taking a piece of fire hose and slipping it over your trailer chains, but common sense prevails. Adjust your change so they don't drag on the ground to begin with. I mean, it's real simple, it's not rocket science. Just don't do that. And then if you do have a problem and have to pull on the shoulder of the road. Remember you have a catalytic convert that's somewhere between eight hundred and fifteen hundred degrees. It will start the shoulder on fire. There's grass, it's called kindling. Don't do that. Just be very very very very careful. So anybody have any other last words?
01:18:39
Speaker 3: Check us out for the Window Warrior Games twenty twenty six, San Antonio, Texas, June thirteenth to June twentieth.
01:18:47
Speaker 1: We're going to have to get you a decal for your hat. You know, we're going to support you, so you know.
01:18:53
Speaker 3: Well we appreciate it and it's going to be epic.
01:18:58
Speaker 1: Okay.
01:18:59
Speaker 3: You guys have shooting sports as well. We do rifle and pistol, Olympic air Okay, is that all benched or so I'm in a wheelchair? So I shoot s h one.
01:19:11
Speaker 1: And what caliber?
01:19:13
Speaker 3: It's a one seven seven pellet air rifles. Precision and to get the perfect score, which is a ten point nine, you're trying to take a pellet and put it on the tip of a needle, not just touching it. It has to be center on the needle. And we're doing that with offhand with an Olympic pistol and rifle. So I do standing per se from a wheelchair rif.
01:19:42
Speaker 1: Okay, any big stuff.
01:19:45
Speaker 3: No, no, you don't want to give all the services a whole bunch of big boar weapons.
01:19:52
Speaker 1: You're in your wheel tail, you're shooting a big boar spinning around on a circle.
01:19:56
Speaker 3: I got brakes. Sorry, I just but I see what you did there. Don You made part a lot.
01:20:04
Speaker 1: Let's go so well that that's really good? When are you heading out?
01:20:12
Speaker 3: So TEA Marine Corps will be on deck in San Antonio on the eighth of June. Then we'll do our team's preparations and then kick off the ceremony on the thirteenth. And there's all. It's got cycling, it's got track and field. I mean, we've got swimming events. It's it's amazing to see what the adaptations are to a service member after they've been injured and tried their recovery path and then go into sports as that next level competition to prove that nothing's changed. We can still do it.
01:20:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just we.
01:20:49
Speaker 3: Now adain like, hey, I'm still me exactly, and then we can do it in front of a crowd with people that support us.
01:20:56
Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to give you our call in number, and if you have I'm on the fourteenth. Give us a call. We'll try to support you on the air if you're able to get to us.
01:21:06
Speaker 3: Outstanding, Yes, sir, ninety.
01:21:09
Speaker 8: Two days so deaf season. I just figured it out.
01:21:12
Speaker 1: Ninety two days. When's the deadline for the draw? Tuesday?
01:21:17
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's a second yeah, Tuesday, Yeah, Tuesday, Tuesday at midnight.
01:21:23
Speaker 1: You got to have your fall permit cent How many points did you have?
01:21:29
Speaker 9: I've always got too because under safety and and.
01:21:35
Speaker 1: What you call it loyalty? Yeah, the conservation point and.
01:21:42
Speaker 8: Are you in at thirty nine?
01:21:44
Speaker 1: Wow?
01:21:45
Speaker 3: Just giving away the secrets on the air.
01:21:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's why he's got the extra I don't want to know that. Never mind, came on, God love you, thank you for bringing these guys down. We'll talk offline next week and see what we can do to support the transfer. And you know, all the stuff you're doing over there, it's extremely, extremely important and glad to be a part of it. So, uh, we got to get out of here. NASCAR today, Denny Hamlon's good on the long runs, but I would look for Christopher Bell don't get your hopes up on the Hendrich number five. Card I swore to gosh, that's that thing's in. You know it's voodoo, it's witchcraft. You know it'll run good for thirty laps and then you know he's back there wiping up for JJ Yaley. So anyway, I'm gone with Jo'll take your kids, fish and hug your fast boat and like us on Instagram and Facebook. Will be back next week
01:15:13

Speaker 9: Yeah, it's a second yeah, Tuesday, Yeah, Tuesday, Tuesday at midnight.
01:21:23
