WEBVTT
00:02.967 --> 00:11.023
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello and welcome to Table Talk, a show where I chat with other creators in the TTRBG space about how they run their tables.
00:11.604 --> 00:20.301
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Danger'd Anjors, the GM and host of D&D Ark, and joining us at the table today are 60% of the cast of 5 GM's in a trench coat.
00:20.281 --> 00:21.362
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello everyone.
00:22.604 --> 00:22.844
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello.
00:23.084 --> 00:23.665
[SPEAKER_03]: Hey.
00:23.945 --> 00:32.396
[SPEAKER_03]: To get us started, can you introduce each of yourselves, tell us a little bit about your history in TTRPGs and about your show 5 GMs in the trench coat?
00:32.416 --> 00:33.157
[SPEAKER_04]: I guess I'll start.
00:33.717 --> 00:34.238
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Jesse.
00:34.699 --> 00:48.195
[SPEAKER_04]: My history with TTRPGs is that when I got into college, my friends and I needed something cheap we could do together because we were all in college, including afford to do stuff.
00:48.175 --> 00:49.097
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I'm Tandlin.
00:50.038 --> 00:50.840
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I'm Tandlin.
00:50.860 --> 00:51.100
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
00:51.141 --> 00:51.982
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's me.
00:52.203 --> 00:53.044
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
00:53.064 --> 00:53.585
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, hi.
00:54.266 --> 01:02.602
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess my history with to share with you is it all extends back to like two people, which is GM Adam, who's not here.
01:03.143 --> 01:09.034
[SPEAKER_00]: And my older brother, who got Adam into it also, which also knows Jesse.
01:09.054 --> 01:11.719
[SPEAKER_04]: He was one of my friends in college that.
01:11.699 --> 01:13.301
[SPEAKER_04]: We needed something to do.
01:13.562 --> 01:13.802
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
01:13.922 --> 01:17.428
[SPEAKER_03]: Is that how the bulk of you met for the show was through college?
01:17.788 --> 01:20.532
[SPEAKER_04]: Not really, because I'm friends with her brother.
01:20.552 --> 01:24.759
[SPEAKER_04]: Her brother's friends with, obviously her, she's in the data.
01:26.441 --> 01:29.606
[SPEAKER_04]: So like that's kind of how I got connected to them.
01:30.167 --> 01:33.572
[SPEAKER_03]: God, just so largely just pre-existing relationships and connections.
01:33.670 --> 01:37.498
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, this is the fun part of explaining our fun.
01:37.758 --> 01:40.664
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to say family tree, but a relationship tree in the trend to go.
01:41.305 --> 01:42.528
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so hi, I'm Kim.
01:42.948 --> 01:47.477
[SPEAKER_02]: My relationship with HRBGs actually stems from Adam, who's not here.
01:47.498 --> 01:48.760
[SPEAKER_02]: We started.
01:48.740 --> 02:16.063
[SPEAKER_02]: dating around five years ago and he was really into like tabletop games and like magic together and stuff like that and I had always had an interest in like D&D and stuff like that but I never had anyone to teach me and Adam was like if you're down I'm super down to teach you and so he started running a game for me and then Jesse was in it and Tannen was in it along with a couple of other friends so before we started doing the podcast we weren't in a home
02:16.043 --> 02:21.611
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Adam was like, hey, I have this crazy idea that I've always wanted to do, but I've never had the right people to do it.
02:22.112 --> 02:25.136
[SPEAKER_02]: Would you guys like to start a podcast together?
02:25.436 --> 02:29.061
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, we always reference him as the Nick Fury of the group, because he has some rules all.
02:29.442 --> 02:35.250
[SPEAKER_02]: He has some rule of myself, Jesse Timlin, and then originally our other friend from college, Tanner.
02:35.230 --> 02:39.261
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we started doing the podcast and so we were like, you know what we're going to do.
02:39.281 --> 02:45.258
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do a fun podcast where we rotate GMs and table top systems because there's so many different things out there.
02:45.860 --> 02:48.126
[SPEAKER_02]: And we all have different storytelling styles.
02:48.166 --> 02:50.252
[SPEAKER_02]: So we thought that'd be really fun to showcase.
02:50.333 --> 02:55.340
[SPEAKER_03]: That is a much smarter way to go about it than the way de-interacted.
02:55.360 --> 02:58.324
[SPEAKER_03]: We basically dove directly into the deep end.
02:58.825 --> 03:03.992
[SPEAKER_03]: So you're hearing a lot of the cast aren't playing for the first time on Mike.
03:04.012 --> 03:04.533
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, God.
03:05.394 --> 03:07.597
[SPEAKER_03]: It was real deep end training.
03:08.118 --> 03:12.444
[SPEAKER_03]: And took us a little bit to find our footing, but I really like where we ended up.
03:12.464 --> 03:18.552
[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like once we got on our rhythm of the move, then we were moving and cooking.
03:18.532 --> 03:28.324
[SPEAKER_03]: but very wise to start with a group that you already know the chemistry for and already have a bit of experience playing the game.
03:28.344 --> 03:35.313
[SPEAKER_04]: If you want some deep lore, Adam and I actually started a podcast a long time ago, a D&D podcast.
03:35.393 --> 03:38.717
[SPEAKER_04]: It was being hit with a couple other friends and it was terrible.
03:38.697 --> 03:43.923
[SPEAKER_04]: We kind of did the same thing where we played a few times as like we got this and we just had one mic and just played it.
03:43.943 --> 03:44.524
[SPEAKER_04]: It's awful.
03:44.544 --> 03:48.348
[SPEAKER_04]: I remember I listened back to it a couple of years ago and it's like not even so bad.
03:48.388 --> 03:48.748
[SPEAKER_04]: It's good.
03:48.788 --> 03:49.349
[SPEAKER_04]: It's just bad.
03:51.772 --> 03:52.312
[SPEAKER_04]: So it was bad.
03:52.653 --> 03:58.319
[SPEAKER_04]: And it's luckily eventually I ended up screwing it up and then like deleted a bunch of the audio files.
03:58.339 --> 03:59.140
[SPEAKER_04]: It was like, oh well.
04:00.121 --> 04:01.943
[SPEAKER_04]: I guess that's that.
04:01.963 --> 04:03.625
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm too lazy.
04:03.605 --> 04:06.829
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, hey, that gives you a really good jumping off point.
04:06.869 --> 04:14.658
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a concept that I've heard recently in terms of like artistic endeavors that cringe is the cost of entry.
04:14.678 --> 04:15.339
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
04:15.359 --> 04:16.000
[SPEAKER_01]: So God.
04:17.101 --> 04:23.488
[SPEAKER_03]: Being able to get that out of the way early and get over the fear of we don't know what we're doing.
04:23.568 --> 04:24.810
[SPEAKER_03]: This is not good.
04:24.850 --> 04:29.315
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure was a huge helping boon for jumping into 5 GMs.
04:29.335 --> 04:33.460
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know who's still there.
04:33.440 --> 04:37.626
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it took a bit because we also further back lore.
04:37.766 --> 04:42.113
[SPEAKER_02]: So Adam and Jesse were doing a cryptid's podcast during the pandemic.
04:42.133 --> 04:44.576
[SPEAKER_02]: So they had experience chatting with each other on Mike.
04:45.057 --> 04:50.725
[SPEAKER_02]: Adam and I did a small stint of another D&D actual play podcast a little bit before we started five GMs.
04:50.765 --> 04:55.372
[SPEAKER_02]: So I had a little bit of on-mic performance experience before the most part.
04:55.712 --> 04:58.857
[SPEAKER_02]: We all hadn't really performed in front of a mic before.
04:58.837 --> 05:01.203
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was also a big thing for us to learn.
05:01.223 --> 05:02.666
[SPEAKER_02]: I love our first season.
05:02.867 --> 05:15.057
[SPEAKER_02]: She's very near and dirt in my heart, but you can so tell the learning curves that you can hear us doing throughout just like in terms of being comfortable role playing with like the knowledge of something in front of you and it's being recorded.
05:15.037 --> 05:17.140
[SPEAKER_02]: because there were multiple instances.
05:17.360 --> 05:20.886
[SPEAKER_02]: I know it with Talon's particular who would like do things.
05:21.006 --> 05:22.708
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I'm sorry.
05:22.788 --> 05:23.529
[SPEAKER_02]: I did that.
05:23.549 --> 05:25.372
[SPEAKER_02]: And we're like, dude, we're so good.
05:25.412 --> 05:26.594
[SPEAKER_02]: We're so fine.
05:26.694 --> 05:28.657
[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, we're so solid.
05:28.677 --> 05:30.560
[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, and they all hated me.
05:30.660 --> 05:33.905
[SPEAKER_02]: And we're like, we promise we do not hate you.
05:33.925 --> 05:36.669
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a well-trod meme in our group chat.
05:37.009 --> 05:44.520
[SPEAKER_03]: The scene from Meet the Robinson's of Goob going down the
05:44.500 --> 05:46.062
[SPEAKER_03]: They all hate it me.
05:47.084 --> 05:49.227
[SPEAKER_03]: That meme gets a lot of play in our group chat.
05:49.247 --> 05:51.630
[SPEAKER_03]: So I understand that feeling big time.
05:52.071 --> 05:56.417
[SPEAKER_02]: That's literally any of us after we GM.
05:56.437 --> 05:57.539
[SPEAKER_02]: We're having so much fun.
05:57.579 --> 05:59.181
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to be sad about it.
05:59.201 --> 05:59.802
[SPEAKER_02]: I promise.
06:00.343 --> 06:03.047
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get into some specifics about 5 GMs.
06:03.467 --> 06:13.782
[SPEAKER_03]: Basically with the five of you taking turns rotating being GM and rotating systems baking in the versatility into
06:13.762 --> 06:22.934
[SPEAKER_03]: how that kind of came about, what the set of was for that, and what you consider when you're deciding, what story you want to tell GM to buy who you know what system.
06:23.455 --> 06:25.778
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I feel like that's different for each of us.
06:26.458 --> 06:30.484
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna make Tamal go first because she hasn't said anything in a second, so I'm sorry I'm gonna fight you on the spot.
06:31.405 --> 06:33.588
[SPEAKER_00]: How dare you do this to me?
06:33.908 --> 06:41.558
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a lot of our own personality goes into each and every choice that's made in the background, like for Jesse,
06:41.538 --> 06:49.188
[SPEAKER_00]: He likes the crunchy games, he likes history, he chose Cyberpunk Red for his first like delving to our, what have we been calling it?
06:49.208 --> 06:54.455
[SPEAKER_00]: We were calling it like our collective or something for the first chunk of seasons for 5GNs.
06:54.495 --> 06:55.596
[SPEAKER_04]: We just call it the collection.
06:55.676 --> 06:57.218
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the collections, I don't know.
06:57.238 --> 07:03.006
[SPEAKER_00]: There's something really a flagrant and we should find out a word for that.
07:03.256 --> 07:19.003
[SPEAKER_00]: But choosing cybercrunk red and then going with the story that he went with is it's very personal to him for me I know D&D and I felt most comfortable GM and D&D so it's like if I'm going to go on a mic I might as well just do something I know first.
07:19.388 --> 07:31.166
[SPEAKER_00]: and then the story that I was telling, it's very personal, like horror, I like horror, like nitty gritty sort of thing, so that it's kind of what goes into it for me, at least.
07:31.486 --> 07:32.548
[SPEAKER_00]: What I've noticed for us.
07:33.069 --> 07:38.477
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's the fun part about our show is that we're all so different.
07:38.457 --> 07:45.144
[SPEAKER_02]: in terms of GMing, but also because we're such good friends as well, the chemistry there is super fun.
07:45.184 --> 07:50.910
[SPEAKER_02]: And I know each of us kind of go about picking a system for each season differently.
07:50.930 --> 07:58.659
[SPEAKER_02]: I know for me, I sometimes will start with the vibe or the kind of story I want to tell and seeing what system I want it to work with it.
07:58.939 --> 08:07.468
[SPEAKER_02]: And so like for my season, I really want to
08:07.448 --> 08:22.547
[SPEAKER_02]: What kind of systems work for that kind of vibe that I wanted and I heard a lot about blazing the dark before and I was like, well, I've always wanted to try blazing the dark and then I looked into blazing the dark and I was like, oh, I kind of loved blazing the dark and so I ended up working really well for my season and that sort of thing.
08:22.567 --> 08:23.550
[SPEAKER_02]: So I know that I
08:23.530 --> 08:27.259
[SPEAKER_02]: me, I go for vibes first, and then I see if there's a system that'll work for it.
08:27.680 --> 08:31.228
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Pamela said that she's comfortable with D&D, and so that's what she went with.
08:31.710 --> 08:42.315
[SPEAKER_02]: But I know going forward now, since we've had a little bit more experience under our belt, it's a little bit more like I know, Pamela's going a little bit more vibe and seeing what system sort of fits and that sort of thing.
08:42.295 --> 08:46.140
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's the really fun part of what our show is that we're all so very different.
08:46.561 --> 08:49.986
[SPEAKER_02]: And we have to put the same thing out against one another since honestly.
08:50.286 --> 08:53.972
[SPEAKER_02]: So our first season was like fantasy, dragonwriters and fate.
08:54.452 --> 08:57.356
[SPEAKER_02]: And then second season was Jesse doing cyberpunk red.
08:57.417 --> 08:59.439
[SPEAKER_02]: Taylor did dark fantasy and D&D.
08:59.620 --> 09:02.544
[SPEAKER_02]: I did like, new R in lights in the dark.
09:02.584 --> 09:06.029
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're currently doing Retro 80s horror and kids on bikes.
09:06.770 --> 09:10.395
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's all very different genres depending on what you like.
09:10.375 --> 09:13.440
[SPEAKER_04]: And cyberpunk, I just played the game cyberpunk and it was like that seems fun.
09:13.780 --> 09:14.561
[SPEAKER_04]: Let's do that.
09:14.581 --> 09:18.648
[SPEAKER_00]: It was like perfect for you because it has all the faction and history and stuff that you like.
09:18.748 --> 09:23.235
[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's so many numbers and so many so much tech involved.
09:23.255 --> 09:23.916
[SPEAKER_00]: It was, yeah.
09:24.176 --> 09:28.603
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad we had you there to like coaches through it because I haven't been able to do it.
09:28.702 --> 09:36.116
[SPEAKER_04]: When we did it, I was like, I'm going to make the characters because like, I don't I don't want to get it lost in these characters, so I'm just going to do it fast.
09:36.356 --> 09:45.192
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure that you're similar to me in that you experience a big pivotal piece of media and immediately your first thought is, how can I use this?
09:45.172 --> 09:56.136
[SPEAKER_03]: For me, I am currently going through the Alan Wake series right now, and immediately constant knee-jerk reactions of, I gotta remember this, how do I use this, how can I bring this to my games?
09:56.216 --> 10:00.666
[SPEAKER_03]: And what about this, do I want to retrofit into our stories?
10:00.646 --> 10:22.063
[SPEAKER_03]: Our current interstitial campaign that we're putting out right now that we're almost done with us at the time of this interview is one in the Dark Souls TTRPG system and Ben who's jamming that basically saw that there was a Dark Souls TTRPG loves the Dark Souls franchise and basically just said I want to and that was the end of that.
10:22.043 --> 10:26.067
[SPEAKER_03]: you can tell a lot about a GM from the systems they gravitate towards.
10:26.727 --> 10:30.571
[SPEAKER_03]: So how would you describe each other as GMs?
10:31.372 --> 10:35.696
[SPEAKER_04]: So we recently did, uh, what's the, what's the, what's the bridging game called it?
10:35.716 --> 10:36.356
[SPEAKER_02]: Good society.
10:36.697 --> 10:37.477
[SPEAKER_04]: Good society.
10:37.517 --> 10:43.063
[SPEAKER_04]: It was really fun because Kim was just like, treating it like she's watching a TV show.
10:43.083 --> 10:44.624
[SPEAKER_04]: Like, the whole time she's giggling.
10:44.724 --> 10:45.445
[SPEAKER_04]: It's really funny.
10:45.545 --> 10:46.486
[SPEAKER_04]: Like, what do you less to do it?
10:46.606 --> 10:50.970
[SPEAKER_04]: You just hear like, you're like, you're giggling, you're giggling
10:50.950 --> 11:00.224
[SPEAKER_04]: She's really good at the balance of like hands-off letting a scene play out, but like still keeping things on track and for Tamlin for her game.
11:00.785 --> 11:17.329
[SPEAKER_04]: I just loved like all the weird situations she put us in like they were very non-traditional D&D situations Like there was a part where we had to fight this weird like womb creature thing and then I get attacked by babies and I'm getting my butt kicked by them and so I'm like well
11:17.309 --> 11:19.111
[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe I should try to like play with that.
11:19.171 --> 11:21.053
[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe they're still just babies in that work.
11:21.974 --> 11:30.985
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's just sort of these like really off the wall situations that Tamlyn likes to put us in and it like gives us many different ways to solve these situations.
11:31.325 --> 11:31.926
[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about Adam.
11:31.946 --> 11:33.207
[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about Adam quick.
11:33.227 --> 11:33.888
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, in the Adam.
11:34.128 --> 11:35.089
[SPEAKER_00]: He can't defend himself.
11:35.770 --> 11:37.952
[SPEAKER_04]: Adam, I hate Adam.
11:37.972 --> 11:38.213
[SPEAKER_04]: I hate Adam.
11:38.233 --> 11:38.473
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm kidding.
11:38.513 --> 11:39.334
[SPEAKER_04]: I love him.
11:39.314 --> 11:43.001
[SPEAKER_04]: Um, I mean, he bakes everything feel grounded.
11:43.582 --> 11:45.986
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I'm there when he's DMing.
11:46.287 --> 11:47.449
[SPEAKER_04]: I can't really explain it.
11:47.509 --> 11:49.453
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's just one of those feelings you get.
11:49.533 --> 11:50.915
[SPEAKER_04]: When you're just like, oh, I'm here.
11:50.975 --> 11:51.797
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm this character.
11:52.198 --> 11:53.059
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm doing this thing.
11:53.099 --> 11:55.163
[SPEAKER_04]: It just feels grounded.
11:55.210 --> 11:59.856
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think other people have talked about it that aren't a part of our podcast that have like been guests.
12:00.137 --> 12:09.209
[SPEAKER_00]: He captures like a party well, like he gets the attention of players and makes them like engage in a way that a lot of people have a hard time doing.
12:09.269 --> 12:11.853
[SPEAKER_00]: He just doesn't naturally and I look up to him.
12:12.213 --> 12:13.455
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't tell him I said that.
12:14.279 --> 12:15.902
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, don't talk on my said anything good.
12:16.062 --> 12:23.075
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, don't actually don't Start bleeding it, so it makes it sound like we're saying mean things.
12:23.396 --> 12:24.338
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, don't worry.
12:24.398 --> 12:37.823
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll clip out the beginning where you said I hate Adam and cut everything else Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, just change the pitch and stuff for them and then the say to say my piece about Kim I think fantastic role player fantastic
12:37.803 --> 12:50.264
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and like just on on her feet quick with it, I think during her main campaign, there was a part where she had nothing for it, but we kept going after it with these two kids.
12:50.404 --> 12:51.306
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it was it kids?
12:51.666 --> 12:54.411
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you gotta explain it for me.
12:54.391 --> 13:11.353
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay, so I put him a guff in in front of you guys to get you out of the situation and I was like well This is just gonna be in my guffin and this is fine and my bad for forgetting that all of you are like their children We need to help the children so I didn't have a ton of fleshed out for them and so I was like
13:11.333 --> 13:11.874
[SPEAKER_02]: Dang it.
13:11.894 --> 13:14.458
[SPEAKER_02]: This is my ad for not very anything for them.
13:14.798 --> 13:16.641
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they just kind of kept following that thread.
13:16.661 --> 13:20.146
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I just kind of kept making things up for them to just have Lord for them.
13:20.266 --> 13:24.473
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, well, if you're going to keep following the start, I'll keep giving you things I suppose.
13:24.773 --> 13:29.640
[SPEAKER_00]: It was like an entire episode and a half of just her having to make stuff up on the fly.
13:29.781 --> 13:32.344
[SPEAKER_00]: And we didn't even know it was it was fantastic.
13:32.645 --> 13:34.708
[SPEAKER_00]: And now you have to talk about Jesse.
13:35.414 --> 13:37.097
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I hate him.
13:37.317 --> 13:38.619
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I get it.
13:39.180 --> 13:40.302
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I love Jesse.
13:40.322 --> 13:54.746
[SPEAKER_00]: I love his balance with bringing like a real world situations that he knows about because of the history buff and he's a nerd into like, whatever system we're in, it's a talent.
13:54.766 --> 13:55.988
[SPEAKER_00]: I could never do that.
13:56.008 --> 13:57.150
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can't even talk.
13:57.170 --> 13:58.452
[SPEAKER_00]: So.
13:58.432 --> 14:00.876
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've never spoken a day in my life.
14:01.397 --> 14:06.925
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, gosh, I admire you guys so much as GMs.
14:07.165 --> 14:10.350
[SPEAKER_02]: I steal so heavily from all three of them.
14:10.370 --> 14:16.159
[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of crazy because I, like I said, I hadn't done anything in terms of teach RPGs before.
14:16.179 --> 14:18.803
[SPEAKER_02]: I started doing this podcast and doing the homies with them.
14:19.324 --> 14:23.971
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it was a real delight, honestly, seeing everyone GM before me.
14:23.991 --> 14:25.333
[SPEAKER_02]: And so,
14:25.313 --> 14:30.439
[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing I absolutely adore about Jesse is the way that he can keep up banter.
14:30.479 --> 14:40.970
[SPEAKER_02]: He's so like quick in terms of like quips and like, okay, so in Cyberpunk Red in our series, we have this longstanding bit because it was a sniper and then Adam's character.
14:41.210 --> 14:45.355
[SPEAKER_02]: And they were going back and forth and Adam's character was like, well, what do you like to do?
14:45.395 --> 14:46.316
[SPEAKER_02]: What are your favorite hobbies?
14:46.396 --> 14:48.418
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what do you do when you're not sniping people?
14:48.398 --> 14:50.221
[SPEAKER_02]: And Jesse was like, well, I like to bake.
14:50.522 --> 14:54.147
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it became a whole thing where we got that NPC known as sourdough Joe.
14:54.208 --> 14:58.314
[SPEAKER_02]: And then it carries through out the series in which a sourdough Joe comes back.
14:58.415 --> 15:02.121
[SPEAKER_02]: And then at the very end, he opens his own bakery and gives up the sniping life.
15:02.481 --> 15:03.803
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just so funny.
15:03.924 --> 15:12.077
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's the way that how fast Jesse can respond to like you saying some ridiculous things to him is very impressive.
15:12.057 --> 15:29.394
[SPEAKER_02]: For Tamlin, I would just have to say, I love the way Tamlin crafts encounters because one of the things about D&D that like, you know, I'm not the biggest fan of R&D indeed, but I just don't love R&D combat personally, which is why some of my favorite systems aren't very combat heavy.
15:29.434 --> 15:40.545
[SPEAKER_02]: But the way that Tamlin crafts encounters to be so dynamic was one of my favorite parts of doing her season, is that they were never just straight, like, and here's a boss fight.
15:40.525 --> 15:52.242
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's a fight, but there's also a turnative ways to get out of it, which is one of my favorite ways to also do combat when I'm doing D&D, it's just like, it's not just violence, it's there's some other ways to do it that aren't just violence.
15:52.602 --> 15:58.571
[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's something that I really appreciate about Tamlin and when she's crafting her encounters and sort of any system we've done so far.
15:59.372 --> 16:02.837
[SPEAKER_02]: And Adam, you know, hate that guy.
16:02.817 --> 16:07.906
[SPEAKER_02]: I always joke, but I always mean it with so much heart is that I think he's the best of us.
16:08.507 --> 16:20.067
[SPEAKER_02]: The way in which he is able to create a whole world in the way that Jesse said that makes it feel grounded and makes it feel very real and just the way that he also can like,
16:20.047 --> 16:47.607
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and is also incredibly impressive because, you know, you can just say like, and here's my thing about this character and here's I'm sliding it in front of your desk and he's like, yeah, did go for it and then we'll like, and episode or so later we'll like start incorporating those little breadcrumbs and things like that too.
16:47.587 --> 16:57.222
[SPEAKER_03]: fantastic, the chemistry that your podcast has is, it's very apparent and really strong, very much comes through.
16:57.242 --> 17:01.749
[SPEAKER_03]: I will kind of selfishly to not leave my podcast out of this.
17:01.789 --> 17:06.857
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to do the same thing and give my flowers to all of my cast while they can't defend themselves.
17:07.218 --> 17:09.882
[SPEAKER_02]: As you should, put them on the spot.
17:10.030 --> 17:11.792
[SPEAKER_03]: going down the line rapid fire.
17:11.833 --> 17:16.679
[SPEAKER_03]: Aaron who plays the Phantom of the Opera is one of the funniest people I know.
17:16.699 --> 17:29.077
[SPEAKER_03]: He is phenomenal at doing comedic relief and bits and as a really good narrative sense for knowing the timing of wind to be serious and wind to be silly.
17:29.097 --> 17:32.461
[SPEAKER_03]: And that lent itself very well to his comedic stylings.
17:32.501 --> 17:34.384
[SPEAKER_03]: He is very very good at that.
17:34.364 --> 17:40.855
[SPEAKER_03]: Grayson, who plays the invisible man, he commits harder than most people that I know.
17:40.895 --> 17:44.541
[SPEAKER_03]: He puts 110% of himself into everything.
17:44.841 --> 17:53.976
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of intensity in what he does, a thing that we've joked about a whole bunch is during his character centric arc when we've got our section going through Big Ben.
17:53.956 --> 18:10.704
[SPEAKER_03]: there was a part of it where I asked him to like I need you to come up with like a decently plausible good enough explanation for how the invisible man's invisibility like serum procedure works so that on our show we can kind of recreate the process.
18:11.125 --> 18:15.212
[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't have to be anything just as long as it sounds feasible that's fine.
18:15.532 --> 18:20.200
[SPEAKER_03]: He then basically wrote up a dissertation looking into
18:20.180 --> 18:41.226
[SPEAKER_03]: the physics of light refraction in biochemistry and a little bit into like nuclear physics to try to come up with a scientifically feasible he came just shy of actually inventing the damn thing and that is just kind of the way that his brain works when he commits he locks in.
18:41.206 --> 18:48.977
[SPEAKER_03]: Ben, who plays the Frankenstein monster, brings an energy to the show and to what he does, that is unmatched.
18:49.037 --> 18:51.360
[SPEAKER_03]: He is our show's height man.
18:51.861 --> 18:57.128
[SPEAKER_03]: The way that a lot of shows will start off and do a like mic check to sync everybody up.
18:57.168 --> 18:58.951
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody will do like one, two, three clap.
18:59.552 --> 19:05.560
[SPEAKER_03]: Our way of doing that is we start our recordings with him yelling at the top of his lungs.
19:05.540 --> 19:08.404
[SPEAKER_03]: Are you Motherfuckers ready for some D&D?
19:09.266 --> 19:12.671
[SPEAKER_03]: And then we all cheer and that's how I sync up our audio.
19:13.252 --> 19:17.258
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like that tells you basically all you need to know about Ben.
19:17.539 --> 19:27.294
[SPEAKER_03]: He's a really good hype man and similarly, he's very intense in his roleplay and brings a lot into the acting that he does with each of his characters.
19:27.314 --> 19:32.442
[SPEAKER_03]: He really goes all out into the emotional core of the characters.
19:32.422 --> 19:45.892
[SPEAKER_03]: And as far as emotional covers go, Jordan who plays the Wolfman, she is an expert at tugging on the heartstrings and on playing really emotionally resonant characters.
19:46.493 --> 19:48.658
[SPEAKER_03]: She also just as a GM.
19:48.638 --> 19:58.931
[SPEAKER_03]: The way that she's described her GM style is she likes to set up a difficult, fraught situation, drop us in and then just see what happens.
19:59.532 --> 20:08.262
[SPEAKER_03]: And whatever happens happens, I've taken a lot of inspiration as far as my own GMing style goes from that approach and that way of doing things.
20:08.943 --> 20:16.873
[SPEAKER_03]: And then Daniel, who plays Imhotep the Mummy, Daniel is a very smart player.
20:16.853 --> 20:22.478
[SPEAKER_03]: I would describe him as one of the cleverer players that Ivan countered both in the podcast and out of it.
20:22.959 --> 20:30.125
[SPEAKER_03]: As a GM, he loves his bag of tricks, a thing that we both have in common is we're both sticklers for fast pace.
20:30.766 --> 20:37.252
[SPEAKER_03]: And so he loves to resort to pulling from a bag of tricks in order to keep momentum fast and keep us going.
20:37.713 --> 20:44.599
[SPEAKER_03]: So that is my praise for my cast.
20:45.423 --> 20:56.858
[SPEAKER_03]: So to swing it back to five GMs in a trench coat, you've done kids on bikes, blades in the dark, cyberpunk red, fate as well as other bonus interstitial stories in other systems.
20:57.499 --> 21:05.389
[SPEAKER_03]: If you could just kind of rapid fire go through this was this GM season in this system, and this is what the system was, and this is what the story was.
21:05.690 --> 21:07.132
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm God, we have so many.
21:08.534 --> 21:09.996
[SPEAKER_02]: Tannin, you love season one.
21:10.136 --> 21:12.500
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm making you do that one.
21:12.520 --> 21:19.951
[SPEAKER_00]: I have to do it for Tannin, RIP, he did, but he still, he's our best, he's our best as buddy, but he ain't apart about the podcast no more.
21:19.991 --> 21:22.855
[SPEAKER_00]: Season one.
21:23.122 --> 21:45.602
[SPEAKER_00]: is fake core, which is very rules like D6 sort of system, but it's like it's not D6 is like pluses and minuses, and this is what I, this is me recalling because I haven't played it in a very long time, and Tanner did a lot of home brewing for it, especially for his world, but it
21:45.582 --> 22:06.730
[SPEAKER_00]: a rebellion and a what's the word for a like a tyrannic to empire empire there we go there we go it was it was Star Wars but it was dragons you know we saw that it was Star Wars but it wasn't Star Wars it was dragons
22:07.452 --> 22:11.926
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a really effective shorthand, my favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy 6.
22:12.428 --> 22:20.533
[SPEAKER_03]: In a sentence, if I were to describe it with that kind of shorthand, it's Star Wars, but halfway through the Emperor dies and is replaced by the Joker.
22:24.243 --> 22:28.431
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's my favorite game of all time, and I hate how effective a short hand.
22:28.552 --> 22:29.053
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
22:29.373 --> 22:33.181
[SPEAKER_03]: Star Wars, but blank, is for summing something up like that.
22:33.241 --> 22:33.943
[SPEAKER_03]: So I get it.
22:34.123 --> 22:39.153
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's like all the stories that could ever be told have been told in most of the Maran Star Wars.
22:39.835 --> 22:40.396
[SPEAKER_00]: And I will die on that bill.
22:40.416 --> 22:45.947
[SPEAKER_00]: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
22:46.332 --> 22:48.755
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, mine was the second season, so I guess we'll do mine.
22:48.875 --> 22:50.558
[SPEAKER_04]: So I did cyberpunk red.
22:51.078 --> 22:54.943
[SPEAKER_04]: People who are familiar with cyberpunk, the video game takes place in 2077.
22:55.144 --> 22:59.589
[SPEAKER_04]: This one takes place in 2045, I believe.
22:59.910 --> 23:01.792
[SPEAKER_04]: This is the 2040, so I don't remember exactly one.
23:02.313 --> 23:09.943
[SPEAKER_04]: But like it's kind of post-apocalyptic after the corporate war and the world is all bad because it's all torn apart by this corporate war.
23:10.193 --> 23:17.102
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the whole thing was just the sort of theme about it was that it's all the main villains.
23:17.162 --> 23:21.168
[SPEAKER_04]: They're sort of flaws that they believe in the corporations and the mega corpse.
23:21.188 --> 23:22.229
[SPEAKER_01]: I had the whole time.
23:22.269 --> 23:30.000
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, they believed that the mega corpse because they had their backing that the mega corpse cared about them and that they were untouchable.
23:30.080 --> 23:31.722
[SPEAKER_04]: But then it turns out that's not true.
23:32.363 --> 23:35.427
[SPEAKER_04]: So that's kind of the main theme and what connects all the villains.
23:35.748 --> 23:37.450
[SPEAKER_02]: And I had to worry about rent.
23:37.430 --> 23:38.171
[SPEAKER_02]: in that game.
23:38.371 --> 23:40.093
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, it's true.
23:40.153 --> 23:40.393
[SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
23:40.413 --> 23:42.995
[SPEAKER_04]: There's a joke that it's referred to as poverty simulator.
23:43.656 --> 23:46.719
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and you can go crazy if you're too sad.
23:47.460 --> 23:50.062
[SPEAKER_04]: So you've got to keep things going.
23:50.783 --> 23:55.487
[SPEAKER_04]: The game itself is like you have a lot of stats, but a whole bunch of them are like social stats.
23:55.547 --> 24:02.834
[SPEAKER_04]: So there's a lot of like resisting being tortured, like resisting drugs and persuasions and all this.
24:02.854 --> 24:03.555
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's
24:03.535 --> 24:20.953
[SPEAKER_04]: The game itself is a little more complicated than I usually like, but I think it's kind of fits the whole thing and having to build your character because if you have too much cyber on you, you go crazy, so it's all about trying not to be poor and not going crazy, very relatable.
24:20.933 --> 24:23.740
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it gets a little too relatable sometimes.
24:23.780 --> 24:24.361
[SPEAKER_04]: It's upsetting.
24:25.063 --> 24:36.850
[SPEAKER_04]: It was kind of funny because Tamland played a corporate person and so one of the things is that like you could just do like side jobs if you don't do something for a week and hers was they just center a paycheck.
24:36.830 --> 24:54.007
[SPEAKER_04]: And she just sat around the house and everyone's upset because everyone else I think world bad that one so everyone else did all this stuff But didn't make much money and she just they just sent her a bonus check just because She said it really interesting like what the different characters are in this world and how they fit.
24:54.788 --> 24:57.454
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it back on me, mm-hmm season 3
24:58.092 --> 25:18.370
[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, so long ago, it was D&D, so it was everything everyone already knows all the time already, except it was StarDoh, it wasn't Star Wars, it was like a grim dark sort of fantasy setting where everyone sucks, but what are the bad guys really good guys, hashtag suicide squad?
25:18.470 --> 25:19.071
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
25:19.102 --> 25:31.116
[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of describe it as like what if we did suicide squad in D&D so it's everyone has started out in prison or it isn't prison We're starting in a prison and from there they become heroes question mark.
25:31.236 --> 25:37.683
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know and everyone sucks Everyone's the worst person you've ever met and either you kill them with kindness or you kill them with your sword.
25:38.344 --> 25:41.127
[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, and they're may or may not be impregnate
25:42.271 --> 25:52.222
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I was really into resident evil, what was it, is it, is it, is it eight that has the big evil baby in it?
25:52.602 --> 25:54.504
[SPEAKER_03]: That is eight, yes, yes, yes.
25:54.685 --> 25:58.309
[SPEAKER_00]: I was really into that and I really like gross like body horror.
25:58.729 --> 26:05.897
[SPEAKER_00]: So at the time there's a lot of that and there's a lot of like trigger warnings in the beginning of that each episode because that's just that's how I roll.
26:06.338 --> 26:08.940
[SPEAKER_00]: So consume the media at your own cost.
26:09.181 --> 26:10.422
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I am.
26:10.402 --> 26:17.349
[SPEAKER_02]: Gosh, the goo babies, yeah, my season was season four, we played Blades in the Dark.
26:17.670 --> 26:23.596
[SPEAKER_02]: Blades in the Dark is a very fun, like, fast-paced, I would call it like a high system pretty much.
26:23.996 --> 26:35.228
[SPEAKER_02]: You have 26 and you roll them and you add them together to do things, but the big appeal of Blades in the Dark is that when you're doing a job is that you can have a flashback system and that's basically like,
26:35.208 --> 26:36.489
[SPEAKER_02]: I prepared for this.
26:36.790 --> 26:37.410
[SPEAKER_02]: I have a thing.
26:37.771 --> 26:44.598
[SPEAKER_02]: And you roll, of course, as if you successfully do the thing, but so you don't have to take five years in the planning stage.
26:45.038 --> 26:46.960
[SPEAKER_02]: You can just kind of throw them in the situation.
26:47.120 --> 26:50.424
[SPEAKER_02]: And then be like, well, you can think of a solution if I tell you the door is locked.
26:50.464 --> 26:55.929
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you could tell me who you know to see how you would have either a lock pick or how you'd have plans that sort of thing.
26:56.190 --> 26:57.351
[SPEAKER_02]: Plates in dark, very fun.
26:57.671 --> 26:59.393
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a day proponent for Blates in dark.
26:59.373 --> 27:16.217
[SPEAKER_02]: But my season was basically I took a lot of inspiration for mine from like Batman and like Gotham and such because I do have a soft spot for like film noir and stuff like that and my mom would watch a lot of like Batman stuff in the background when I was growing up.
27:16.197 --> 27:35.185
[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot of inspiration there, but it's basically there's a bunch of different sort of factions that are vying for like the top spot and our group kind of gets summoned by one of them as they hear that the big four are doing some maybe fishy things or some maybe fishy magical demonic artifacts.
27:35.401 --> 27:37.707
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the just of my season.
27:37.727 --> 27:39.371
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a lot of fun to play out.
27:39.391 --> 27:45.487
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to figure out who wants to do atoms because atoms not here to defend themselves.
27:46.049 --> 27:51.182
[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jesse wants to do it because Tannlin has talked a lot for Tannlin.
27:51.854 --> 28:02.011
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so yeah, we're doing kids on bikes is a pretty interesting little system where you can fail and then you get like these little tokens so you could re-roll later on.
28:02.151 --> 28:07.821
[SPEAKER_04]: So it is like you do kind of keep keep moving on sometimes, you know, like, oh, and
28:07.801 --> 28:10.485
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's sort of like a Scooby-Doo kind of thing.
28:10.505 --> 28:29.215
[SPEAKER_04]: We're just going across America and we're someone upon all kinds of things and all these cryptids and ghosts and monsters and such and it's kind of funny because at the beginning I kept missing all the paranormal stuff so they were encountering about this weird stuff and I'd be like, what are you guys talking about?
28:29.235 --> 28:32.560
[SPEAKER_04]: There's literally, oh, you see I saw a big bird.
28:32.540 --> 28:37.427
[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to be like Chessie, I'm in a ratio of the table and we're fighting you right now.
28:38.108 --> 28:41.934
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so it was sort of fun, but then it gets kind of serious at times.
28:42.795 --> 28:48.003
[SPEAKER_04]: We made it so our characters, like kind of have that we do each other for our going up.
28:48.023 --> 28:51.829
[SPEAKER_04]: And so our characters have history and some of it's kind of rocky.
28:52.089 --> 28:56.556
[SPEAKER_04]: So just kind of that fun little like monster of the day kind of story.
28:56.536 --> 28:57.477
[SPEAKER_03]: That's so fun.
28:57.557 --> 29:04.223
[SPEAKER_03]: I love how varied each of your campaigns are and like the different scope and focus that each of them has.
29:04.583 --> 29:16.854
[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of my favorite things about doing interstitial bonus content is the opportunity to try out other systems and other shows that are kind of off genre and off of what our main campaign is.
29:17.955 --> 29:26.543
[SPEAKER_03]: For any potential upcoming seasons, do any of you have a bucket
29:26.523 --> 29:32.337
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'm planning to do Star Wars because I love Star Wars too.
29:32.377 --> 29:33.420
[SPEAKER_00]: Something I'm passionate about.
29:33.921 --> 29:35.505
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do Root and Doon Cowboys.
29:35.966 --> 29:40.056
[SPEAKER_00]: I have yet to find a system that does Root and Doon Cowboys the way I want it.
29:40.437 --> 29:44.667
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something that I need to figure out.
29:44.647 --> 29:51.654
[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to be a snake away all salesmen, so make sure that's not happening anytime soon, but I want it.
29:51.734 --> 29:52.594
[SPEAKER_00]: I want it badly.
29:52.895 --> 29:56.398
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know Adam is in the talks of us doing a sports season.
29:56.438 --> 29:57.379
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
29:57.399 --> 29:58.940
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really excited for that one.
29:59.241 --> 30:05.927
[SPEAKER_02]: He's been tossing out like very sports that we beat teams for, and I'm like, hey, I love me a good sports thing.
30:05.967 --> 30:08.710
[SPEAKER_02]: Tamlin's also been talking about doing vampires at some point.
30:09.230 --> 30:13.354
[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to, I want to be a messy eternal vampire so bad.
30:13.334 --> 30:15.117
[SPEAKER_02]: um it's fun.
30:15.377 --> 30:18.061
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so I want to get my little hands in there.
30:18.121 --> 30:19.904
[SPEAKER_02]: It does be a messy eternal vampire.
30:20.204 --> 30:26.754
[SPEAKER_02]: Um yeah and then I know for my next season we are actually making a system.
30:26.794 --> 30:27.495
[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of be fun.
30:27.835 --> 30:35.106
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I won't give too much away about that because we're still in development for that but it's it's coming and I'm very excited.
30:35.255 --> 30:40.651
[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, don't go into any details you don't want to spoil, but just out of curiosity, are you building it from the ground up?
30:40.671 --> 30:48.775
[SPEAKER_03]: Are you using something like groups where you've got like a system builder that you're attaching things onto or is it entirely from scratch?
30:48.805 --> 30:58.341
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's entirely from scratch, it's a lot of work, but Adam is our main game design guy, and he was like, I love to do that.
30:58.462 --> 31:12.225
[SPEAKER_02]: And I have the sort of concept in mind of us being like little little spirits and such like that, but there's a certain way I want the game progression to go that I don't think is out there yet, and so we're sort of crafting that together.
31:12.385 --> 31:13.868
[SPEAKER_02]: So that'll be super fun.
31:14.152 --> 31:17.537
[SPEAKER_03]: It is a blast to make your own games.
31:18.378 --> 31:27.151
[SPEAKER_03]: Before getting into D&D, my COVID pandemic hobby was I got into the home routine for the board and card game Disney villainous.
31:27.531 --> 31:36.123
[SPEAKER_03]: There was a very active home routine for that to make your own builds and make your own like little mini at your games within that confine structure.
31:36.143 --> 31:38.607
[SPEAKER_03]: So there was a ton of fun that I got from that.
31:38.587 --> 31:46.197
[SPEAKER_03]: And within the TCRBG space, there's a thing that I'm toying around with with Jordan right now.
31:46.398 --> 31:54.409
[SPEAKER_03]: We've kind of put together our own little mini system from scratch for just one shots or a thing to insert into bigger campaigns.
31:54.809 --> 32:00.477
[SPEAKER_03]: That is a speed racer, wacky racer style, high octane vehicle race.
32:00.457 --> 32:01.399
[SPEAKER_03]: simulator.
32:01.840 --> 32:03.363
[SPEAKER_03]: It's still as of now.
32:03.403 --> 32:05.026
[SPEAKER_03]: We're still relatively early on.
32:05.066 --> 32:11.879
[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't been able to play test it yet, but we've got like a short little five-page document for our proposed game plan for that.
32:11.920 --> 32:14.184
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's been up last to throw together.
32:14.224 --> 32:19.815
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm excited to see what you cobble together, and I know how fun that process can be.
32:19.795 --> 32:26.328
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's super fun because we've been just doing a bunch of pre-development stuff of like going over just basic rules and stuff like that.
32:26.409 --> 32:29.294
[SPEAKER_02]: And Talon came up with like some of them mock up art and stuff like that.
32:29.695 --> 32:36.910
[SPEAKER_02]: And so just even just the pre-development stuff is so much fun to like watch the puzzle pieces kind of find their places.
32:36.890 --> 32:37.873
[SPEAKER_03]: absolutely.
32:37.913 --> 32:50.687
[SPEAKER_03]: With all of that in mind with like where you want to go and where you have been for any new listeners wanting to approach 5 GMs in a trench coat, where would you point them to as a good place to start?
32:51.610 --> 32:52.131
[SPEAKER_03]: I think
32:52.111 --> 33:17.434
[SPEAKER_04]: Tamlins because it's the Indie so like it's the general setting is familiar But like the story is very different and I think it does like showcase each of us in like very out there characters So I think it's a good showcase of like to get someone in because they they get D&D But it's something completely different, but then you still get like an idea of what each of us are like All right, play styles and not a first season.
33:17.534 --> 33:22.118
[SPEAKER_04]: It's a bit rough to start out
33:22.098 --> 33:29.145
[SPEAKER_04]: The other ones that go back, I swear it gets, the quality gets a lot better as it goes on.
33:29.406 --> 33:32.378
[SPEAKER_04]: It just staffers, staffers bits kind of rough.
33:32.476 --> 33:34.859
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, steer far away from my season.
33:34.899 --> 33:36.942
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so scary and nasty.
33:36.962 --> 33:38.463
[SPEAKER_00]: Please, it's not, it's not who I am.
33:38.483 --> 33:40.406
[SPEAKER_00]: I, I know I said it's who I am.
33:40.766 --> 33:42.248
[SPEAKER_00]: I can change.
33:42.809 --> 33:44.871
[SPEAKER_00]: Though it is, it is a really good, that's true.
33:44.911 --> 33:46.774
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good showcase of the players at least.
33:46.794 --> 33:50.178
[SPEAKER_00]: Like Adam came in Jesse do a really fantastic job in it.
33:50.458 --> 33:58.348
[SPEAKER_00]: For me, I just want to say season five because my bestie ad of is doing a fantastic job running kids on bikes.
33:58.328 --> 34:03.334
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think my cast meets our fantastic in it as well.
34:03.795 --> 34:05.377
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the best of our work.
34:05.397 --> 34:07.619
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know it's like, it's what's happening right now.
34:07.699 --> 34:08.921
[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that's why I'm saying that.
34:09.021 --> 34:10.022
[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think so.
34:10.042 --> 34:10.963
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's fantastic.
34:11.024 --> 34:11.865
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we should start there.
34:12.165 --> 34:15.189
[SPEAKER_00]: Start at the end and then work your way back to season one.
34:15.549 --> 34:18.733
[SPEAKER_00]: And don't judge us too much.
34:20.030 --> 34:22.854
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh god, I love that the consensus is like again.
34:22.934 --> 34:24.817
[SPEAKER_02]: Susan, one has a very special place in my heart.
34:25.237 --> 34:27.340
[SPEAKER_02]: She does have a lot of growing pains in there.
34:27.440 --> 34:33.449
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, maybe start with something a little more recent and then go back because if you start there, you might be like, oh, guys.
34:33.569 --> 34:36.213
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, yeah, I don't blame you.
34:36.994 --> 34:43.503
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh gosh, I remember because you sent these questions beforehand and I read this question and I went, oh no, you're making me choose.
34:43.663 --> 34:45.165
[SPEAKER_02]: I have decision paralysis.
34:45.245 --> 34:47.088
[SPEAKER_02]: You can't, you cannot do this to me.
34:47.108 --> 34:49.311
[SPEAKER_02]: You're pretty my children against each other.
34:49.291 --> 35:18.741
[SPEAKER_02]: I love all of them for very different reasons, but I do, I think I do have to agree with Tammon because we are kind of in our bag for season five and like we're in our smoothest groove I think that we've had so far on the podcast and it's just a really fun time and also kids on bikes is a fairly simple system and so it's not anything too crazy or crunchy that you would have to like pick up or like learn as you're listening and I just think
35:18.721 --> 35:19.142
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that right?
35:19.162 --> 35:19.803
[SPEAKER_02]: You want to start?
35:20.064 --> 35:21.146
[SPEAKER_02]: I would suggest there.
35:21.166 --> 35:24.052
[SPEAKER_02]: I really love the good society many series we did.
35:24.112 --> 35:26.778
[SPEAKER_02]: If you want something shorter, it's only five episodes.
35:26.878 --> 35:27.920
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of fun.
35:27.940 --> 35:33.131
[SPEAKER_02]: Since a good society is a diceless system, that one's extremely easy to pick up.
35:33.592 --> 35:37.320
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also so much fun if you love drama.
35:37.300 --> 35:39.224
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, it's so much drama.
35:39.264 --> 35:41.187
[SPEAKER_02]: So much romance and so much yearning.
35:41.528 --> 35:43.872
[SPEAKER_02]: If that's if you're Ali, that's you're going to love that one.
35:43.932 --> 35:50.204
[SPEAKER_02]: And also, I just, as Jesse said, you can hear me giggling the entire time because I'm like, and now kiss.
35:50.865 --> 35:51.787
[SPEAKER_02]: And now kiss.
35:52.227 --> 35:54.191
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm being in the background orchestrating things.
35:54.872 --> 35:57.958
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so yeah, I also think that's all a good jumping off point too.
35:57.938 --> 36:00.981
[SPEAKER_04]: and we're trying to convince Kim to do it for every Christmas.
36:01.241 --> 36:05.405
[SPEAKER_02]: So listen, I said that I will do it again this year for Christmas.
36:05.585 --> 36:06.987
[SPEAKER_02]: That might be the new tradition.
36:07.007 --> 36:08.028
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
36:08.328 --> 36:09.229
[SPEAKER_04]: Look, I think it should be.
36:09.589 --> 36:11.992
[SPEAKER_04]: I love doing that one.
36:12.012 --> 36:12.252
[SPEAKER_03]: That's fine.
36:12.272 --> 36:27.827
[SPEAKER_03]: Some of our best stuff, where our holiday specials, what I usually point people to for D&D arc, is our mini campaign, Call of Kathubi do, where we did a Scooby-Doo mystery, where the players were mystery ink in the Call of Kathulu system.
36:27.807 --> 36:37.581
[SPEAKER_03]: Our second Halloween special is Muppet Alien, where we're playing the prewritten module cherry to the gods, which has pre-built characters in it.
36:38.002 --> 36:45.833
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're the pre-built and pre-baked characters are played by Muppets, and it says if the whole thing is a film special for the Muppet Show.
36:45.813 --> 36:51.861
[SPEAKER_03]: Our current interstitial campaign, DN Dark Souls, is in the Dark Souls system and setting.
36:52.242 --> 36:53.764
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a dark fantasy fairy tale.
36:54.184 --> 36:56.988
[SPEAKER_03]: Ben really wanted to do a Kingdom Hearts game.
36:57.609 --> 37:03.256
[SPEAKER_03]: And I encourage him to broaden it out a bit more to general fairy tales and less Disney.
37:03.316 --> 37:04.418
[SPEAKER_03]: It's still very Disney.
37:04.558 --> 37:06.741
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's basically Disney Dark Souls.
37:06.721 --> 37:18.804
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a very fun one, very combat heavy, much more dramatic than a lot of our campaigns tend to go, but it's been a very interesting experiment and experience that we've learned a lot from.
37:18.844 --> 37:27.480
[SPEAKER_03]: We did a kids on Bikes 1 a little bit earlier in the year that was our one and only single-sitting one shot.
37:27.460 --> 37:29.887
[SPEAKER_03]: That was just a classic Agatha Christie who done it.
37:29.947 --> 37:31.712
[SPEAKER_03]: We all played detective archetypes.
37:31.772 --> 37:33.958
[SPEAKER_03]: And so we had like an inspector gadget.
37:33.978 --> 37:35.242
[SPEAKER_03]: We had a Colombo.
37:35.322 --> 37:36.505
[SPEAKER_03]: We had a noir cop.
37:36.545 --> 37:42.803
[SPEAKER_03]: We had a Simon Pegg from Hot Fuzz, kind of fresh out of the Academy by the books detective.
37:42.783 --> 37:44.145
[SPEAKER_03]: So that was a ton of fun.
37:44.746 --> 37:52.540
[SPEAKER_03]: I usually for our show point people to start with one of our bonus one shots or mini campaigns and then jump into the main show.
37:52.560 --> 37:58.530
[SPEAKER_03]: Their low commitment, their lower episode counts and it's a good sense of our sense of humor.
37:58.510 --> 38:21.025
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's generally my go to, I even put a whole page on our website about recommended starting points for getting into an on-ramping onto the show just because the beginning of our first campaign has some growing pains and there's a lot of, it's both a pro and a con that you can see us grow in real time and get more comfortable with the game.
38:21.005 --> 38:26.255
[SPEAKER_03]: But there's definitely a leap in production quality and in our own personal skill.
38:26.696 --> 38:33.990
[SPEAKER_03]: So I usually steer people towards later episodes that are a bit more polished than when we started.
38:34.231 --> 38:35.774
[SPEAKER_01]: That's so valid.
38:35.794 --> 38:37.377
[SPEAKER_01]: Because yeah, I get it.
38:37.610 --> 38:41.256
[SPEAKER_03]: So keeping an eye on time, we're starting to run up on the clock.
38:41.617 --> 38:52.254
[SPEAKER_03]: If there's any other topics that you all want to broach, any things that you want to make sure that we cover, any things that you don't want left unsaid, any miscellaneous things that you would want to add.
38:52.675 --> 38:53.496
[SPEAKER_03]: Now is the time.
38:53.897 --> 38:55.860
[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is Star Wars.
38:56.922 --> 38:57.983
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to forget that.
38:58.003 --> 38:58.885
[SPEAKER_00]: Keep it in your heart.
39:01.810 --> 39:03.212
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's all I have to say.
39:03.884 --> 39:06.894
[SPEAKER_04]: Just watch Star Wars, you'll get, you'll get everything else.
39:07.095 --> 39:09.824
[SPEAKER_04]: You don't watch Star Wars, you guys.
39:09.845 --> 39:12.915
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a push to watch, Star Wars, that's it.
39:14.347 --> 39:18.775
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a long con of our podcast act.
39:18.795 --> 39:19.476
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh god.
39:20.838 --> 39:21.359
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no.
39:21.379 --> 39:23.302
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's anything else really.
39:23.342 --> 39:24.745
[SPEAKER_02]: I think we covered most of it.
39:24.805 --> 39:28.672
[SPEAKER_02]: If we seem like you're sort of GM, you should listen to us please.
39:29.032 --> 39:29.653
[SPEAKER_02]: We're a lot of fun.
39:29.693 --> 39:30.214
[SPEAKER_02]: I promise.
39:30.935 --> 39:31.216
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
39:31.296 --> 39:34.802
[SPEAKER_03]: And on that note, can you remind our listeners where they can find your show?
39:34.782 --> 39:38.432
[SPEAKER_02]: Most places you can find us at the number five GMs in a trench coat.
39:38.933 --> 39:41.641

39:54.570 --> 39:57.253
[SPEAKER_02]: And we also have really cool animatics for each season that we do.
39:57.814 --> 39:59.115

[SPEAKER_02]: Most places at five gyms in a trench coat.
40:03.380 --> 40:08.706
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe on blue sky, we're at at five gyms official because five gyms in trench coat was too long for blue sky.
40:08.746 --> 40:10.048
[SPEAKER_02]: So they said, no, no, no.
40:10.468 --> 40:11.950
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, okay, I guess fine.
40:12.791 --> 40:14.353
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that's where you can find most of us.
40:14.413 --> 40:17.777
[SPEAKER_02]: And then on all of our stuff, you can find our personal socials as well.
40:17.797 --> 40:19.639
[SPEAKER_02]: If you like our vibe as well.
40:19.754 --> 40:20.215
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
40:20.235 --> 40:21.096
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, thank you again.
40:21.136 --> 40:23.458
[SPEAKER_03]: All of those links will be in the description.
40:23.678 --> 40:26.001
[SPEAKER_03]: And thank you again for coming by to chat with me.
40:26.041 --> 40:27.042
[SPEAKER_03]: This has been a ton of fun.
40:27.383 --> 40:27.523
[SPEAKER_02]: Yay.
40:27.583 --> 40:28.604
[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for having us.
40:28.624 --> 40:29.505
[SPEAKER_03]: Great time.
40:29.525 --> 40:30.126
[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
40:30.366 --> 40:33.049
[SPEAKER_03]: And thank you all of you for listening.
40:33.450 --> 40:34.311
[SPEAKER_03]: One more time, everybody.
40:34.491 --> 40:35.672
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Dangerdanjers.

40:38.535 --> 40:41.559
[SPEAKER_03]: I've been chatting with three out of five GMs in a trench coat.
40:41.959 --> 40:44.462
[SPEAKER_03]: And this has been table talk.
40:44.442 --> 40:49.980
[SPEAKER_03]: and I hope you enjoyed what we brought to the table and made the horse be with you and made the force be with you.
40:53.588 --> 41:02.300
[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you so much for listening to this episode of Table Talk, created hosted and edited by myself, dangered and jurors, with artwork by Jordan Nelson.
41:02.320 --> 41:05.705

[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks again for listening and we'll see you next time we have a guest take a seat at the table.
00:02.967 --> 00:11.023
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello and welcome to Table Talk, a show where I chat with other creators in the TTRBG space about how they run their tables.
00:11.604 --> 00:20.301
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Danger'd Anjors, the GM and host of D&D Ark, and joining us at the table today are 60% of the cast of 5 GM's in a trench coat.
00:20.281 --> 00:21.362
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello everyone.
00:22.604 --> 00:22.844
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello.
00:23.084 --> 00:23.665
[SPEAKER_03]: Hey.
00:23.945 --> 00:32.396
[SPEAKER_03]: To get us started, can you introduce each of yourselves, tell us a little bit about your history in TTRPGs and about your show 5 GMs in the trench coat?
00:32.416 --> 00:33.157
[SPEAKER_04]: I guess I'll start.
00:33.717 --> 00:34.238
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Jesse.
00:34.699 --> 00:48.195
[SPEAKER_04]: My history with TTRPGs is that when I got into college, my friends and I needed something cheap we could do together because we were all in college, including afford to do stuff.
00:48.175 --> 00:49.097
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I'm Tandlin.
00:50.038 --> 00:50.840
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I'm Tandlin.
00:50.860 --> 00:51.100
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
00:51.141 --> 00:51.982
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's me.
00:52.203 --> 00:53.044
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
00:53.064 --> 00:53.585
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, hi.
00:54.266 --> 01:02.602
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess my history with to share with you is it all extends back to like two people, which is GM Adam, who's not here.
01:03.143 --> 01:09.034
[SPEAKER_00]: And my older brother, who got Adam into it also, which also knows Jesse.
01:09.054 --> 01:11.719
[SPEAKER_04]: He was one of my friends in college that.
01:11.699 --> 01:13.301
[SPEAKER_04]: We needed something to do.
01:13.562 --> 01:13.802
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
01:13.922 --> 01:17.428
[SPEAKER_03]: Is that how the bulk of you met for the show was through college?
01:17.788 --> 01:20.532
[SPEAKER_04]: Not really, because I'm friends with her brother.
01:20.552 --> 01:24.759
[SPEAKER_04]: Her brother's friends with, obviously her, she's in the data.
01:26.441 --> 01:29.606
[SPEAKER_04]: So like that's kind of how I got connected to them.
01:30.167 --> 01:33.572
[SPEAKER_03]: God, just so largely just pre-existing relationships and connections.
01:33.670 --> 01:37.498
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, this is the fun part of explaining our fun.
01:37.758 --> 01:40.664
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to say family tree, but a relationship tree in the trend to go.
01:41.305 --> 01:42.528
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so hi, I'm Kim.
01:42.948 --> 01:47.477
[SPEAKER_02]: My relationship with HRBGs actually stems from Adam, who's not here.
01:47.498 --> 01:48.760
[SPEAKER_02]: We started.
01:48.740 --> 02:16.063
02:16.043 --> 02:21.611
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Adam was like, hey, I have this crazy idea that I've always wanted to do, but I've never had the right people to do it.
02:22.112 --> 02:25.136
[SPEAKER_02]: Would you guys like to start a podcast together?
02:25.436 --> 02:29.061
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, we always reference him as the Nick Fury of the group, because he has some rules all.
02:29.442 --> 02:35.250
[SPEAKER_02]: He has some rule of myself, Jesse Timlin, and then originally our other friend from college, Tanner.
02:35.230 --> 02:39.261
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we started doing the podcast and so we were like, you know what we're going to do.
02:39.281 --> 02:45.258
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do a fun podcast where we rotate GMs and table top systems because there's so many different things out there.
02:45.860 --> 02:48.126
[SPEAKER_02]: And we all have different storytelling styles.
02:48.166 --> 02:50.252
[SPEAKER_02]: So we thought that'd be really fun to showcase.
02:50.333 --> 02:55.340
[SPEAKER_03]: That is a much smarter way to go about it than the way de-interacted.
02:55.360 --> 02:58.324
[SPEAKER_03]: We basically dove directly into the deep end.
02:58.825 --> 03:03.992
[SPEAKER_03]: So you're hearing a lot of the cast aren't playing for the first time on Mike.
03:04.012 --> 03:04.533
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, God.
03:05.394 --> 03:07.597
[SPEAKER_03]: It was real deep end training.
03:08.118 --> 03:12.444
[SPEAKER_03]: And took us a little bit to find our footing, but I really like where we ended up.
03:12.464 --> 03:18.552
[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like once we got on our rhythm of the move, then we were moving and cooking.
03:18.532 --> 03:28.324
[SPEAKER_03]: but very wise to start with a group that you already know the chemistry for and already have a bit of experience playing the game.
03:28.344 --> 03:35.313
[SPEAKER_04]: If you want some deep lore, Adam and I actually started a podcast a long time ago, a D&D podcast.
03:35.393 --> 03:38.717
[SPEAKER_04]: It was being hit with a couple other friends and it was terrible.
03:38.697 --> 03:43.923
[SPEAKER_04]: We kind of did the same thing where we played a few times as like we got this and we just had one mic and just played it.
03:43.943 --> 03:44.524
[SPEAKER_04]: It's awful.
03:44.544 --> 03:48.348
[SPEAKER_04]: I remember I listened back to it a couple of years ago and it's like not even so bad.
03:48.388 --> 03:48.748
[SPEAKER_04]: It's good.
03:48.788 --> 03:49.349
[SPEAKER_04]: It's just bad.
03:51.772 --> 03:52.312
[SPEAKER_04]: So it was bad.
03:52.653 --> 03:58.319
[SPEAKER_04]: And it's luckily eventually I ended up screwing it up and then like deleted a bunch of the audio files.
03:58.339 --> 03:59.140
[SPEAKER_04]: It was like, oh well.
04:00.121 --> 04:01.943
[SPEAKER_04]: I guess that's that.
04:01.963 --> 04:03.625
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm too lazy.
04:03.605 --> 04:06.829
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, hey, that gives you a really good jumping off point.
04:06.869 --> 04:14.658
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a concept that I've heard recently in terms of like artistic endeavors that cringe is the cost of entry.
04:14.678 --> 04:15.339
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
04:15.359 --> 04:16.000
[SPEAKER_01]: So God.
04:17.101 --> 04:23.488
[SPEAKER_03]: Being able to get that out of the way early and get over the fear of we don't know what we're doing.
04:23.568 --> 04:24.810
[SPEAKER_03]: This is not good.
04:24.850 --> 04:29.315
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure was a huge helping boon for jumping into 5 GMs.
04:29.335 --> 04:33.460
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know who's still there.
04:33.440 --> 04:37.626
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it took a bit because we also further back lore.
04:37.766 --> 04:42.113
[SPEAKER_02]: So Adam and Jesse were doing a cryptid's podcast during the pandemic.
04:42.133 --> 04:44.576
[SPEAKER_02]: So they had experience chatting with each other on Mike.
04:45.057 --> 04:50.725
[SPEAKER_02]: Adam and I did a small stint of another D&D actual play podcast a little bit before we started five GMs.
04:50.765 --> 04:55.372
[SPEAKER_02]: So I had a little bit of on-mic performance experience before the most part.
04:55.712 --> 04:58.857
[SPEAKER_02]: We all hadn't really performed in front of a mic before.
04:58.837 --> 05:01.203
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was also a big thing for us to learn.
05:01.223 --> 05:02.666
[SPEAKER_02]: I love our first season.
05:02.867 --> 05:15.057
[SPEAKER_02]: She's very near and dirt in my heart, but you can so tell the learning curves that you can hear us doing throughout just like in terms of being comfortable role playing with like the knowledge of something in front of you and it's being recorded.
05:15.037 --> 05:17.140
[SPEAKER_02]: because there were multiple instances.
05:17.360 --> 05:20.886
[SPEAKER_02]: I know it with Talon's particular who would like do things.
05:21.006 --> 05:22.708
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I'm sorry.
05:22.788 --> 05:23.529
[SPEAKER_02]: I did that.
05:23.549 --> 05:25.372
[SPEAKER_02]: And we're like, dude, we're so good.
05:25.412 --> 05:26.594
[SPEAKER_02]: We're so fine.
05:26.694 --> 05:28.657
[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, we're so solid.
05:28.677 --> 05:30.560
[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, and they all hated me.
05:30.660 --> 05:33.905
[SPEAKER_02]: And we're like, we promise we do not hate you.
05:33.925 --> 05:36.669
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a well-trod meme in our group chat.
05:37.009 --> 05:44.520
[SPEAKER_03]: The scene from Meet the Robinson's of Goob going down the
05:44.500 --> 05:46.062
[SPEAKER_03]: They all hate it me.
05:47.084 --> 05:49.227
[SPEAKER_03]: That meme gets a lot of play in our group chat.
05:49.247 --> 05:51.630
[SPEAKER_03]: So I understand that feeling big time.
05:52.071 --> 05:56.417
[SPEAKER_02]: That's literally any of us after we GM.
05:56.437 --> 05:57.539
[SPEAKER_02]: We're having so much fun.
05:57.579 --> 05:59.181
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to be sad about it.
05:59.201 --> 05:59.802
[SPEAKER_02]: I promise.
06:00.343 --> 06:03.047
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get into some specifics about 5 GMs.
06:03.467 --> 06:13.782
[SPEAKER_03]: Basically with the five of you taking turns rotating being GM and rotating systems baking in the versatility into
06:13.762 --> 06:22.934
[SPEAKER_03]: how that kind of came about, what the set of was for that, and what you consider when you're deciding, what story you want to tell GM to buy who you know what system.
06:23.455 --> 06:25.778
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I feel like that's different for each of us.
06:26.458 --> 06:30.484
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna make Tamal go first because she hasn't said anything in a second, so I'm sorry I'm gonna fight you on the spot.
06:31.405 --> 06:33.588
[SPEAKER_00]: How dare you do this to me?
06:33.908 --> 06:41.558
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a lot of our own personality goes into each and every choice that's made in the background, like for Jesse,
06:41.538 --> 06:49.188
[SPEAKER_00]: He likes the crunchy games, he likes history, he chose Cyberpunk Red for his first like delving to our, what have we been calling it?
06:49.208 --> 06:54.455
[SPEAKER_00]: We were calling it like our collective or something for the first chunk of seasons for 5GNs.
06:54.495 --> 06:55.596
[SPEAKER_04]: We just call it the collection.
06:55.676 --> 06:57.218
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the collections, I don't know.
06:57.238 --> 07:03.006
[SPEAKER_00]: There's something really a flagrant and we should find out a word for that.
07:03.256 --> 07:19.003
[SPEAKER_00]: But choosing cybercrunk red and then going with the story that he went with is it's very personal to him for me I know D&D and I felt most comfortable GM and D&D so it's like if I'm going to go on a mic I might as well just do something I know first.
07:19.388 --> 07:31.166
[SPEAKER_00]: and then the story that I was telling, it's very personal, like horror, I like horror, like nitty gritty sort of thing, so that it's kind of what goes into it for me, at least.
07:31.486 --> 07:32.548
[SPEAKER_00]: What I've noticed for us.
07:33.069 --> 07:38.477
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's the fun part about our show is that we're all so different.
07:38.457 --> 07:45.144
[SPEAKER_02]: in terms of GMing, but also because we're such good friends as well, the chemistry there is super fun.
07:45.184 --> 07:50.910
[SPEAKER_02]: And I know each of us kind of go about picking a system for each season differently.
07:50.930 --> 07:58.659
[SPEAKER_02]: I know for me, I sometimes will start with the vibe or the kind of story I want to tell and seeing what system I want it to work with it.
07:58.939 --> 08:07.468
[SPEAKER_02]: And so like for my season, I really want to
08:07.448 --> 08:22.547
08:22.567 --> 08:23.550
[SPEAKER_02]: So I know that I
08:23.530 --> 08:27.259
[SPEAKER_02]: me, I go for vibes first, and then I see if there's a system that'll work for it.
08:27.680 --> 08:31.228
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Pamela said that she's comfortable with D&D, and so that's what she went with.
08:31.710 --> 08:42.315
[SPEAKER_02]: But I know going forward now, since we've had a little bit more experience under our belt, it's a little bit more like I know, Pamela's going a little bit more vibe and seeing what system sort of fits and that sort of thing.
08:42.295 --> 08:46.140
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's the really fun part of what our show is that we're all so very different.
08:46.561 --> 08:49.986
[SPEAKER_02]: And we have to put the same thing out against one another since honestly.
08:50.286 --> 08:53.972
[SPEAKER_02]: So our first season was like fantasy, dragonwriters and fate.
08:54.452 --> 08:57.356
[SPEAKER_02]: And then second season was Jesse doing cyberpunk red.
08:57.417 --> 08:59.439
[SPEAKER_02]: Taylor did dark fantasy and D&D.
08:59.620 --> 09:02.544
[SPEAKER_02]: I did like, new R in lights in the dark.
09:02.584 --> 09:06.029
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're currently doing Retro 80s horror and kids on bikes.
09:06.770 --> 09:10.395
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's all very different genres depending on what you like.
09:10.375 --> 09:13.440
[SPEAKER_04]: And cyberpunk, I just played the game cyberpunk and it was like that seems fun.
09:13.780 --> 09:14.561
[SPEAKER_04]: Let's do that.
09:14.581 --> 09:18.648
[SPEAKER_00]: It was like perfect for you because it has all the faction and history and stuff that you like.
09:18.748 --> 09:23.235
[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's so many numbers and so many so much tech involved.
09:23.255 --> 09:23.916
[SPEAKER_00]: It was, yeah.
09:24.176 --> 09:28.603
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad we had you there to like coaches through it because I haven't been able to do it.
09:28.702 --> 09:36.116
[SPEAKER_04]: When we did it, I was like, I'm going to make the characters because like, I don't I don't want to get it lost in these characters, so I'm just going to do it fast.
09:36.356 --> 09:45.192
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure that you're similar to me in that you experience a big pivotal piece of media and immediately your first thought is, how can I use this?
09:45.172 --> 09:56.136
[SPEAKER_03]: For me, I am currently going through the Alan Wake series right now, and immediately constant knee-jerk reactions of, I gotta remember this, how do I use this, how can I bring this to my games?
09:56.216 --> 10:00.666
[SPEAKER_03]: And what about this, do I want to retrofit into our stories?
10:00.646 --> 10:22.063
10:22.043 --> 10:26.067
[SPEAKER_03]: you can tell a lot about a GM from the systems they gravitate towards.
10:26.727 --> 10:30.571
[SPEAKER_03]: So how would you describe each other as GMs?
10:31.372 --> 10:35.696
[SPEAKER_04]: So we recently did, uh, what's the, what's the, what's the bridging game called it?
10:35.716 --> 10:36.356
[SPEAKER_02]: Good society.
10:36.697 --> 10:37.477
[SPEAKER_04]: Good society.
10:37.517 --> 10:43.063
[SPEAKER_04]: It was really fun because Kim was just like, treating it like she's watching a TV show.
10:43.083 --> 10:44.624
[SPEAKER_04]: Like, the whole time she's giggling.
10:44.724 --> 10:45.445
[SPEAKER_04]: It's really funny.
10:45.545 --> 10:46.486
[SPEAKER_04]: Like, what do you less to do it?
10:46.606 --> 10:50.970
[SPEAKER_04]: You just hear like, you're like, you're giggling, you're giggling
10:50.950 --> 11:00.224
[SPEAKER_04]: She's really good at the balance of like hands-off letting a scene play out, but like still keeping things on track and for Tamlin for her game.
11:00.785 --> 11:17.329
[SPEAKER_04]: I just loved like all the weird situations she put us in like they were very non-traditional D&D situations Like there was a part where we had to fight this weird like womb creature thing and then I get attacked by babies and I'm getting my butt kicked by them and so I'm like well
11:17.309 --> 11:19.111
[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe I should try to like play with that.
11:19.171 --> 11:21.053
[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe they're still just babies in that work.
11:21.974 --> 11:30.985
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's just sort of these like really off the wall situations that Tamlyn likes to put us in and it like gives us many different ways to solve these situations.
11:31.325 --> 11:31.926
[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about Adam.
11:31.946 --> 11:33.207
[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about Adam quick.
11:33.227 --> 11:33.888
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, in the Adam.
11:34.128 --> 11:35.089
[SPEAKER_00]: He can't defend himself.
11:35.770 --> 11:37.952
[SPEAKER_04]: Adam, I hate Adam.
11:37.972 --> 11:38.213
[SPEAKER_04]: I hate Adam.
11:38.233 --> 11:38.473
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm kidding.
11:38.513 --> 11:39.334
[SPEAKER_04]: I love him.
11:39.314 --> 11:43.001
[SPEAKER_04]: Um, I mean, he bakes everything feel grounded.
11:43.582 --> 11:45.986
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I'm there when he's DMing.
11:46.287 --> 11:47.449
[SPEAKER_04]: I can't really explain it.
11:47.509 --> 11:49.453
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's just one of those feelings you get.
11:49.533 --> 11:50.915
[SPEAKER_04]: When you're just like, oh, I'm here.
11:50.975 --> 11:51.797
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm this character.
11:52.198 --> 11:53.059
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm doing this thing.
11:53.099 --> 11:55.163
[SPEAKER_04]: It just feels grounded.
11:55.210 --> 11:59.856
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think other people have talked about it that aren't a part of our podcast that have like been guests.
12:00.137 --> 12:09.209
[SPEAKER_00]: He captures like a party well, like he gets the attention of players and makes them like engage in a way that a lot of people have a hard time doing.
12:09.269 --> 12:11.853
[SPEAKER_00]: He just doesn't naturally and I look up to him.
12:12.213 --> 12:13.455
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't tell him I said that.
12:14.279 --> 12:15.902
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, don't talk on my said anything good.
12:16.062 --> 12:23.075
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, don't actually don't Start bleeding it, so it makes it sound like we're saying mean things.
12:23.396 --> 12:24.338
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, don't worry.
12:24.398 --> 12:37.823
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll clip out the beginning where you said I hate Adam and cut everything else Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, just change the pitch and stuff for them and then the say to say my piece about Kim I think fantastic role player fantastic
12:37.803 --> 12:50.264
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and like just on on her feet quick with it, I think during her main campaign, there was a part where she had nothing for it, but we kept going after it with these two kids.
12:50.404 --> 12:51.306
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it was it kids?
12:51.666 --> 12:54.411
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you gotta explain it for me.
12:54.391 --> 13:11.353
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay, so I put him a guff in in front of you guys to get you out of the situation and I was like well This is just gonna be in my guffin and this is fine and my bad for forgetting that all of you are like their children We need to help the children so I didn't have a ton of fleshed out for them and so I was like
13:11.333 --> 13:11.874
[SPEAKER_02]: Dang it.
13:11.894 --> 13:14.458
[SPEAKER_02]: This is my ad for not very anything for them.
13:14.798 --> 13:16.641
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they just kind of kept following that thread.
13:16.661 --> 13:20.146
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I just kind of kept making things up for them to just have Lord for them.
13:20.266 --> 13:24.473
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, well, if you're going to keep following the start, I'll keep giving you things I suppose.
13:24.773 --> 13:29.640
[SPEAKER_00]: It was like an entire episode and a half of just her having to make stuff up on the fly.
13:29.781 --> 13:32.344
[SPEAKER_00]: And we didn't even know it was it was fantastic.
13:32.645 --> 13:34.708
[SPEAKER_00]: And now you have to talk about Jesse.
13:35.414 --> 13:37.097
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I hate him.
13:37.317 --> 13:38.619
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I get it.
13:39.180 --> 13:40.302
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I love Jesse.
13:40.322 --> 13:54.746
[SPEAKER_00]: I love his balance with bringing like a real world situations that he knows about because of the history buff and he's a nerd into like, whatever system we're in, it's a talent.
13:54.766 --> 13:55.988
[SPEAKER_00]: I could never do that.
13:56.008 --> 13:57.150
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can't even talk.
13:57.170 --> 13:58.452
[SPEAKER_00]: So.
13:58.432 --> 14:00.876
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've never spoken a day in my life.
14:01.397 --> 14:06.925
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, gosh, I admire you guys so much as GMs.
14:07.165 --> 14:10.350
[SPEAKER_02]: I steal so heavily from all three of them.
14:10.370 --> 14:16.159
[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of crazy because I, like I said, I hadn't done anything in terms of teach RPGs before.
14:16.179 --> 14:18.803
[SPEAKER_02]: I started doing this podcast and doing the homies with them.
14:19.324 --> 14:23.971
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it was a real delight, honestly, seeing everyone GM before me.
14:23.991 --> 14:25.333
[SPEAKER_02]: And so,
14:25.313 --> 14:30.439
[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing I absolutely adore about Jesse is the way that he can keep up banter.
14:30.479 --> 14:40.970
[SPEAKER_02]: He's so like quick in terms of like quips and like, okay, so in Cyberpunk Red in our series, we have this longstanding bit because it was a sniper and then Adam's character.
14:41.210 --> 14:45.355
[SPEAKER_02]: And they were going back and forth and Adam's character was like, well, what do you like to do?
14:45.395 --> 14:46.316
[SPEAKER_02]: What are your favorite hobbies?
14:46.396 --> 14:48.418
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what do you do when you're not sniping people?
14:48.398 --> 14:50.221
[SPEAKER_02]: And Jesse was like, well, I like to bake.
14:50.522 --> 14:54.147
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it became a whole thing where we got that NPC known as sourdough Joe.
14:54.208 --> 14:58.314
[SPEAKER_02]: And then it carries through out the series in which a sourdough Joe comes back.
14:58.415 --> 15:02.121
[SPEAKER_02]: And then at the very end, he opens his own bakery and gives up the sniping life.
15:02.481 --> 15:03.803
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just so funny.
15:03.924 --> 15:12.077
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's the way that how fast Jesse can respond to like you saying some ridiculous things to him is very impressive.
15:12.057 --> 15:29.394
15:29.434 --> 15:40.545
[SPEAKER_02]: But the way that Tamlin crafts encounters to be so dynamic was one of my favorite parts of doing her season, is that they were never just straight, like, and here's a boss fight.
15:40.525 --> 15:52.242
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's a fight, but there's also a turnative ways to get out of it, which is one of my favorite ways to also do combat when I'm doing D&D, it's just like, it's not just violence, it's there's some other ways to do it that aren't just violence.
15:52.602 --> 15:58.571
[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's something that I really appreciate about Tamlin and when she's crafting her encounters and sort of any system we've done so far.
15:59.372 --> 16:02.837
[SPEAKER_02]: And Adam, you know, hate that guy.
16:02.817 --> 16:07.906
[SPEAKER_02]: I always joke, but I always mean it with so much heart is that I think he's the best of us.
16:08.507 --> 16:20.067
[SPEAKER_02]: The way in which he is able to create a whole world in the way that Jesse said that makes it feel grounded and makes it feel very real and just the way that he also can like,
16:20.047 --> 16:47.607
16:47.587 --> 16:57.222
[SPEAKER_03]: fantastic, the chemistry that your podcast has is, it's very apparent and really strong, very much comes through.
16:57.242 --> 17:01.749
[SPEAKER_03]: I will kind of selfishly to not leave my podcast out of this.
17:01.789 --> 17:06.857
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to do the same thing and give my flowers to all of my cast while they can't defend themselves.
17:07.218 --> 17:09.882
[SPEAKER_02]: As you should, put them on the spot.
17:10.030 --> 17:11.792
[SPEAKER_03]: going down the line rapid fire.
17:11.833 --> 17:16.679
[SPEAKER_03]: Aaron who plays the Phantom of the Opera is one of the funniest people I know.
17:16.699 --> 17:29.077
[SPEAKER_03]: He is phenomenal at doing comedic relief and bits and as a really good narrative sense for knowing the timing of wind to be serious and wind to be silly.
17:29.097 --> 17:32.461
[SPEAKER_03]: And that lent itself very well to his comedic stylings.
17:32.501 --> 17:34.384
[SPEAKER_03]: He is very very good at that.
17:34.364 --> 17:40.855
[SPEAKER_03]: Grayson, who plays the invisible man, he commits harder than most people that I know.
17:40.895 --> 17:44.541
[SPEAKER_03]: He puts 110% of himself into everything.
17:44.841 --> 17:53.976
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of intensity in what he does, a thing that we've joked about a whole bunch is during his character centric arc when we've got our section going through Big Ben.
17:53.956 --> 18:10.704
[SPEAKER_03]: there was a part of it where I asked him to like I need you to come up with like a decently plausible good enough explanation for how the invisible man's invisibility like serum procedure works so that on our show we can kind of recreate the process.
18:11.125 --> 18:15.212
[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't have to be anything just as long as it sounds feasible that's fine.
18:15.532 --> 18:20.200
[SPEAKER_03]: He then basically wrote up a dissertation looking into
18:20.180 --> 18:41.226
[SPEAKER_03]: the physics of light refraction in biochemistry and a little bit into like nuclear physics to try to come up with a scientifically feasible he came just shy of actually inventing the damn thing and that is just kind of the way that his brain works when he commits he locks in.
18:41.206 --> 18:48.977
[SPEAKER_03]: Ben, who plays the Frankenstein monster, brings an energy to the show and to what he does, that is unmatched.
18:49.037 --> 18:51.360
[SPEAKER_03]: He is our show's height man.
18:51.861 --> 18:57.128
[SPEAKER_03]: The way that a lot of shows will start off and do a like mic check to sync everybody up.
18:57.168 --> 18:58.951
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody will do like one, two, three clap.
18:59.552 --> 19:05.560
[SPEAKER_03]: Our way of doing that is we start our recordings with him yelling at the top of his lungs.
19:05.540 --> 19:08.404
[SPEAKER_03]: Are you Motherfuckers ready for some D&D?
19:09.266 --> 19:12.671
[SPEAKER_03]: And then we all cheer and that's how I sync up our audio.
19:13.252 --> 19:17.258
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like that tells you basically all you need to know about Ben.
19:17.539 --> 19:27.294
[SPEAKER_03]: He's a really good hype man and similarly, he's very intense in his roleplay and brings a lot into the acting that he does with each of his characters.
19:27.314 --> 19:32.442
[SPEAKER_03]: He really goes all out into the emotional core of the characters.
19:32.422 --> 19:45.892
[SPEAKER_03]: And as far as emotional covers go, Jordan who plays the Wolfman, she is an expert at tugging on the heartstrings and on playing really emotionally resonant characters.
19:46.493 --> 19:48.658
[SPEAKER_03]: She also just as a GM.
19:48.638 --> 19:58.931
[SPEAKER_03]: The way that she's described her GM style is she likes to set up a difficult, fraught situation, drop us in and then just see what happens.
19:59.532 --> 20:08.262
[SPEAKER_03]: And whatever happens happens, I've taken a lot of inspiration as far as my own GMing style goes from that approach and that way of doing things.
20:08.943 --> 20:16.873
[SPEAKER_03]: And then Daniel, who plays Imhotep the Mummy, Daniel is a very smart player.
20:16.853 --> 20:22.478
[SPEAKER_03]: I would describe him as one of the cleverer players that Ivan countered both in the podcast and out of it.
20:22.959 --> 20:30.125
[SPEAKER_03]: As a GM, he loves his bag of tricks, a thing that we both have in common is we're both sticklers for fast pace.
20:30.766 --> 20:37.252
[SPEAKER_03]: And so he loves to resort to pulling from a bag of tricks in order to keep momentum fast and keep us going.
20:37.713 --> 20:44.599
[SPEAKER_03]: So that is my praise for my cast.
20:45.423 --> 20:56.858
[SPEAKER_03]: So to swing it back to five GMs in a trench coat, you've done kids on bikes, blades in the dark, cyberpunk red, fate as well as other bonus interstitial stories in other systems.
20:57.499 --> 21:05.389
[SPEAKER_03]: If you could just kind of rapid fire go through this was this GM season in this system, and this is what the system was, and this is what the story was.
21:05.690 --> 21:07.132
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm God, we have so many.
21:08.534 --> 21:09.996
[SPEAKER_02]: Tannin, you love season one.
21:10.136 --> 21:12.500
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm making you do that one.
21:12.520 --> 21:19.951
[SPEAKER_00]: I have to do it for Tannin, RIP, he did, but he still, he's our best, he's our best as buddy, but he ain't apart about the podcast no more.
21:19.991 --> 21:22.855
[SPEAKER_00]: Season one.
21:23.122 --> 21:45.602
[SPEAKER_00]: is fake core, which is very rules like D6 sort of system, but it's like it's not D6 is like pluses and minuses, and this is what I, this is me recalling because I haven't played it in a very long time, and Tanner did a lot of home brewing for it, especially for his world, but it
21:45.582 --> 22:06.730
[SPEAKER_00]: a rebellion and a what's the word for a like a tyrannic to empire empire there we go there we go it was it was Star Wars but it was dragons you know we saw that it was Star Wars but it wasn't Star Wars it was dragons
22:07.452 --> 22:11.926
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a really effective shorthand, my favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy 6.
22:12.428 --> 22:20.533
[SPEAKER_03]: In a sentence, if I were to describe it with that kind of shorthand, it's Star Wars, but halfway through the Emperor dies and is replaced by the Joker.
22:24.243 --> 22:28.431
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's my favorite game of all time, and I hate how effective a short hand.
22:28.552 --> 22:29.053
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
22:29.373 --> 22:33.181
[SPEAKER_03]: Star Wars, but blank, is for summing something up like that.
22:33.241 --> 22:33.943
[SPEAKER_03]: So I get it.
22:34.123 --> 22:39.153
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's like all the stories that could ever be told have been told in most of the Maran Star Wars.
22:39.835 --> 22:40.396
[SPEAKER_00]: And I will die on that bill.
22:40.416 --> 22:45.947
[SPEAKER_00]: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
22:46.332 --> 22:48.755
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, mine was the second season, so I guess we'll do mine.
22:48.875 --> 22:50.558
[SPEAKER_04]: So I did cyberpunk red.
22:51.078 --> 22:54.943
[SPEAKER_04]: People who are familiar with cyberpunk, the video game takes place in 2077.
22:55.144 --> 22:59.589
[SPEAKER_04]: This one takes place in 2045, I believe.
22:59.910 --> 23:01.792
[SPEAKER_04]: This is the 2040, so I don't remember exactly one.
23:02.313 --> 23:09.943
[SPEAKER_04]: But like it's kind of post-apocalyptic after the corporate war and the world is all bad because it's all torn apart by this corporate war.
23:10.193 --> 23:17.102
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the whole thing was just the sort of theme about it was that it's all the main villains.
23:17.162 --> 23:21.168
[SPEAKER_04]: They're sort of flaws that they believe in the corporations and the mega corpse.
23:21.188 --> 23:22.229
[SPEAKER_01]: I had the whole time.
23:22.269 --> 23:30.000
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, they believed that the mega corpse because they had their backing that the mega corpse cared about them and that they were untouchable.
23:30.080 --> 23:31.722
[SPEAKER_04]: But then it turns out that's not true.
23:32.363 --> 23:35.427
[SPEAKER_04]: So that's kind of the main theme and what connects all the villains.
23:35.748 --> 23:37.450
[SPEAKER_02]: And I had to worry about rent.
23:37.430 --> 23:38.171
[SPEAKER_02]: in that game.
23:38.371 --> 23:40.093
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, it's true.
23:40.153 --> 23:40.393
[SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
23:40.413 --> 23:42.995
[SPEAKER_04]: There's a joke that it's referred to as poverty simulator.
23:43.656 --> 23:46.719
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and you can go crazy if you're too sad.
23:47.460 --> 23:50.062
[SPEAKER_04]: So you've got to keep things going.
23:50.783 --> 23:55.487
[SPEAKER_04]: The game itself is like you have a lot of stats, but a whole bunch of them are like social stats.
23:55.547 --> 24:02.834
[SPEAKER_04]: So there's a lot of like resisting being tortured, like resisting drugs and persuasions and all this.
24:02.854 --> 24:03.555
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's
24:03.535 --> 24:20.953
[SPEAKER_04]: The game itself is a little more complicated than I usually like, but I think it's kind of fits the whole thing and having to build your character because if you have too much cyber on you, you go crazy, so it's all about trying not to be poor and not going crazy, very relatable.
24:20.933 --> 24:23.740
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it gets a little too relatable sometimes.
24:23.780 --> 24:24.361
[SPEAKER_04]: It's upsetting.
24:25.063 --> 24:36.850
[SPEAKER_04]: It was kind of funny because Tamland played a corporate person and so one of the things is that like you could just do like side jobs if you don't do something for a week and hers was they just center a paycheck.
24:36.830 --> 24:54.007
[SPEAKER_04]: And she just sat around the house and everyone's upset because everyone else I think world bad that one so everyone else did all this stuff But didn't make much money and she just they just sent her a bonus check just because She said it really interesting like what the different characters are in this world and how they fit.
24:54.788 --> 24:57.454
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it back on me, mm-hmm season 3
24:58.092 --> 25:18.370
25:18.470 --> 25:19.071
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
25:19.102 --> 25:31.116
[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of describe it as like what if we did suicide squad in D&D so it's everyone has started out in prison or it isn't prison We're starting in a prison and from there they become heroes question mark.
25:31.236 --> 25:37.683
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know and everyone sucks Everyone's the worst person you've ever met and either you kill them with kindness or you kill them with your sword.
25:38.344 --> 25:41.127
[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, and they're may or may not be impregnate
25:42.271 --> 25:52.222
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I was really into resident evil, what was it, is it, is it, is it eight that has the big evil baby in it?
25:52.602 --> 25:54.504
[SPEAKER_03]: That is eight, yes, yes, yes.
25:54.685 --> 25:58.309
[SPEAKER_00]: I was really into that and I really like gross like body horror.
25:58.729 --> 26:05.897
[SPEAKER_00]: So at the time there's a lot of that and there's a lot of like trigger warnings in the beginning of that each episode because that's just that's how I roll.
26:06.338 --> 26:08.940
[SPEAKER_00]: So consume the media at your own cost.
26:09.181 --> 26:10.422
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I am.
26:10.402 --> 26:17.349
[SPEAKER_02]: Gosh, the goo babies, yeah, my season was season four, we played Blades in the Dark.
26:17.670 --> 26:23.596
[SPEAKER_02]: Blades in the Dark is a very fun, like, fast-paced, I would call it like a high system pretty much.
26:23.996 --> 26:35.228
[SPEAKER_02]: You have 26 and you roll them and you add them together to do things, but the big appeal of Blades in the Dark is that when you're doing a job is that you can have a flashback system and that's basically like,
26:35.208 --> 26:36.489
[SPEAKER_02]: I prepared for this.
26:36.790 --> 26:37.410
[SPEAKER_02]: I have a thing.
26:37.771 --> 26:44.598
[SPEAKER_02]: And you roll, of course, as if you successfully do the thing, but so you don't have to take five years in the planning stage.
26:45.038 --> 26:46.960
[SPEAKER_02]: You can just kind of throw them in the situation.
26:47.120 --> 26:50.424
[SPEAKER_02]: And then be like, well, you can think of a solution if I tell you the door is locked.
26:50.464 --> 26:55.929
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you could tell me who you know to see how you would have either a lock pick or how you'd have plans that sort of thing.
26:56.190 --> 26:57.351
[SPEAKER_02]: Plates in dark, very fun.
26:57.671 --> 26:59.393
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a day proponent for Blates in dark.
26:59.373 --> 27:16.217
[SPEAKER_02]: But my season was basically I took a lot of inspiration for mine from like Batman and like Gotham and such because I do have a soft spot for like film noir and stuff like that and my mom would watch a lot of like Batman stuff in the background when I was growing up.
27:16.197 --> 27:35.185
27:35.401 --> 27:37.707
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the just of my season.
27:37.727 --> 27:39.371
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a lot of fun to play out.
27:39.391 --> 27:45.487
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to figure out who wants to do atoms because atoms not here to defend themselves.
27:46.049 --> 27:51.182
[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jesse wants to do it because Tannlin has talked a lot for Tannlin.
27:51.854 --> 28:02.011
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, so yeah, we're doing kids on bikes is a pretty interesting little system where you can fail and then you get like these little tokens so you could re-roll later on.
28:02.151 --> 28:07.821
[SPEAKER_04]: So it is like you do kind of keep keep moving on sometimes, you know, like, oh, and
28:07.801 --> 28:10.485
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's sort of like a Scooby-Doo kind of thing.
28:10.505 --> 28:29.215
28:29.235 --> 28:32.560
[SPEAKER_04]: There's literally, oh, you see I saw a big bird.
28:32.540 --> 28:37.427
[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to be like Chessie, I'm in a ratio of the table and we're fighting you right now.
28:38.108 --> 28:41.934
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so it was sort of fun, but then it gets kind of serious at times.
28:42.795 --> 28:48.003
[SPEAKER_04]: We made it so our characters, like kind of have that we do each other for our going up.
28:48.023 --> 28:51.829
[SPEAKER_04]: And so our characters have history and some of it's kind of rocky.
28:52.089 --> 28:56.556
[SPEAKER_04]: So just kind of that fun little like monster of the day kind of story.
28:56.536 --> 28:57.477
[SPEAKER_03]: That's so fun.
28:57.557 --> 29:04.223
[SPEAKER_03]: I love how varied each of your campaigns are and like the different scope and focus that each of them has.
29:04.583 --> 29:16.854
[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of my favorite things about doing interstitial bonus content is the opportunity to try out other systems and other shows that are kind of off genre and off of what our main campaign is.
29:17.955 --> 29:26.543
[SPEAKER_03]: For any potential upcoming seasons, do any of you have a bucket
29:26.523 --> 29:32.337
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'm planning to do Star Wars because I love Star Wars too.
29:32.377 --> 29:33.420
[SPEAKER_00]: Something I'm passionate about.
29:33.921 --> 29:35.505
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do Root and Doon Cowboys.
29:35.966 --> 29:40.056
[SPEAKER_00]: I have yet to find a system that does Root and Doon Cowboys the way I want it.
29:40.437 --> 29:44.667
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something that I need to figure out.
29:44.647 --> 29:51.654
[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to be a snake away all salesmen, so make sure that's not happening anytime soon, but I want it.
29:51.734 --> 29:52.594
[SPEAKER_00]: I want it badly.
29:52.895 --> 29:56.398
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know Adam is in the talks of us doing a sports season.
29:56.438 --> 29:57.379
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
29:57.399 --> 29:58.940
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really excited for that one.
29:59.241 --> 30:05.927
[SPEAKER_02]: He's been tossing out like very sports that we beat teams for, and I'm like, hey, I love me a good sports thing.
30:05.967 --> 30:08.710
[SPEAKER_02]: Tamlin's also been talking about doing vampires at some point.
30:09.230 --> 30:13.354
[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to, I want to be a messy eternal vampire so bad.
30:13.334 --> 30:15.117
[SPEAKER_02]: um it's fun.
30:15.377 --> 30:18.061
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so I want to get my little hands in there.
30:18.121 --> 30:19.904
[SPEAKER_02]: It does be a messy eternal vampire.
30:20.204 --> 30:26.754
[SPEAKER_02]: Um yeah and then I know for my next season we are actually making a system.
30:26.794 --> 30:27.495
[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of be fun.
30:27.835 --> 30:35.106
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I won't give too much away about that because we're still in development for that but it's it's coming and I'm very excited.
30:35.255 --> 30:40.651
[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, don't go into any details you don't want to spoil, but just out of curiosity, are you building it from the ground up?
30:40.671 --> 30:48.775
[SPEAKER_03]: Are you using something like groups where you've got like a system builder that you're attaching things onto or is it entirely from scratch?
30:48.805 --> 30:58.341
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's entirely from scratch, it's a lot of work, but Adam is our main game design guy, and he was like, I love to do that.
30:58.462 --> 31:12.225
[SPEAKER_02]: And I have the sort of concept in mind of us being like little little spirits and such like that, but there's a certain way I want the game progression to go that I don't think is out there yet, and so we're sort of crafting that together.
31:12.385 --> 31:13.868
[SPEAKER_02]: So that'll be super fun.
31:14.152 --> 31:17.537
[SPEAKER_03]: It is a blast to make your own games.
31:18.378 --> 31:27.151
[SPEAKER_03]: Before getting into D&D, my COVID pandemic hobby was I got into the home routine for the board and card game Disney villainous.
31:27.531 --> 31:36.123
[SPEAKER_03]: There was a very active home routine for that to make your own builds and make your own like little mini at your games within that confine structure.
31:36.143 --> 31:38.607
[SPEAKER_03]: So there was a ton of fun that I got from that.
31:38.587 --> 31:46.197
[SPEAKER_03]: And within the TCRBG space, there's a thing that I'm toying around with with Jordan right now.
31:46.398 --> 31:54.409
[SPEAKER_03]: We've kind of put together our own little mini system from scratch for just one shots or a thing to insert into bigger campaigns.
31:54.809 --> 32:00.477
[SPEAKER_03]: That is a speed racer, wacky racer style, high octane vehicle race.
32:00.457 --> 32:01.399
[SPEAKER_03]: simulator.
32:01.840 --> 32:03.363
[SPEAKER_03]: It's still as of now.
32:03.403 --> 32:05.026
[SPEAKER_03]: We're still relatively early on.
32:05.066 --> 32:11.879
[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't been able to play test it yet, but we've got like a short little five-page document for our proposed game plan for that.
32:11.920 --> 32:14.184
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's been up last to throw together.
32:14.224 --> 32:19.815
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm excited to see what you cobble together, and I know how fun that process can be.
32:19.795 --> 32:26.328
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's super fun because we've been just doing a bunch of pre-development stuff of like going over just basic rules and stuff like that.
32:26.409 --> 32:29.294
[SPEAKER_02]: And Talon came up with like some of them mock up art and stuff like that.
32:29.695 --> 32:36.910
[SPEAKER_02]: And so just even just the pre-development stuff is so much fun to like watch the puzzle pieces kind of find their places.
32:36.890 --> 32:37.873
[SPEAKER_03]: absolutely.
32:37.913 --> 32:50.687
[SPEAKER_03]: With all of that in mind with like where you want to go and where you have been for any new listeners wanting to approach 5 GMs in a trench coat, where would you point them to as a good place to start?
32:51.610 --> 32:52.131
[SPEAKER_03]: I think
32:52.111 --> 33:17.434
33:17.534 --> 33:22.118
[SPEAKER_04]: It's a bit rough to start out
33:22.098 --> 33:29.145
[SPEAKER_04]: The other ones that go back, I swear it gets, the quality gets a lot better as it goes on.
33:29.406 --> 33:32.378
[SPEAKER_04]: It just staffers, staffers bits kind of rough.
33:32.476 --> 33:34.859
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, steer far away from my season.
33:34.899 --> 33:36.942
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so scary and nasty.
33:36.962 --> 33:38.463
[SPEAKER_00]: Please, it's not, it's not who I am.
33:38.483 --> 33:40.406
[SPEAKER_00]: I, I know I said it's who I am.
33:40.766 --> 33:42.248
[SPEAKER_00]: I can change.
33:42.809 --> 33:44.871
[SPEAKER_00]: Though it is, it is a really good, that's true.
33:44.911 --> 33:46.774
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good showcase of the players at least.
33:46.794 --> 33:50.178
[SPEAKER_00]: Like Adam came in Jesse do a really fantastic job in it.
33:50.458 --> 33:58.348
[SPEAKER_00]: For me, I just want to say season five because my bestie ad of is doing a fantastic job running kids on bikes.
33:58.328 --> 34:03.334
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think my cast meets our fantastic in it as well.
34:03.795 --> 34:05.377
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the best of our work.
34:05.397 --> 34:07.619
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know it's like, it's what's happening right now.
34:07.699 --> 34:08.921
[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that's why I'm saying that.
34:09.021 --> 34:10.022
[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think so.
34:10.042 --> 34:10.963
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's fantastic.
34:11.024 --> 34:11.865
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we should start there.
34:12.165 --> 34:15.189
[SPEAKER_00]: Start at the end and then work your way back to season one.
34:15.549 --> 34:18.733
[SPEAKER_00]: And don't judge us too much.
34:20.030 --> 34:22.854
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh god, I love that the consensus is like again.
34:22.934 --> 34:24.817
[SPEAKER_02]: Susan, one has a very special place in my heart.
34:25.237 --> 34:27.340
[SPEAKER_02]: She does have a lot of growing pains in there.
34:27.440 --> 34:33.449
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, maybe start with something a little more recent and then go back because if you start there, you might be like, oh, guys.
34:33.569 --> 34:36.213
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, yeah, I don't blame you.
34:36.994 --> 34:43.503
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh gosh, I remember because you sent these questions beforehand and I read this question and I went, oh no, you're making me choose.
34:43.663 --> 34:45.165
[SPEAKER_02]: I have decision paralysis.
34:45.245 --> 34:47.088
[SPEAKER_02]: You can't, you cannot do this to me.
34:47.108 --> 34:49.311
[SPEAKER_02]: You're pretty my children against each other.
34:49.291 --> 35:18.741
35:18.721 --> 35:19.142
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that right?
35:19.162 --> 35:19.803
[SPEAKER_02]: You want to start?
35:20.064 --> 35:21.146
[SPEAKER_02]: I would suggest there.
35:21.166 --> 35:24.052
[SPEAKER_02]: I really love the good society many series we did.
35:24.112 --> 35:26.778
[SPEAKER_02]: If you want something shorter, it's only five episodes.
35:26.878 --> 35:27.920
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of fun.
35:27.940 --> 35:33.131
[SPEAKER_02]: Since a good society is a diceless system, that one's extremely easy to pick up.
35:33.592 --> 35:37.320
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also so much fun if you love drama.
35:37.300 --> 35:39.224
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, it's so much drama.
35:39.264 --> 35:41.187
[SPEAKER_02]: So much romance and so much yearning.
35:41.528 --> 35:43.872
[SPEAKER_02]: If that's if you're Ali, that's you're going to love that one.
35:43.932 --> 35:50.204
[SPEAKER_02]: And also, I just, as Jesse said, you can hear me giggling the entire time because I'm like, and now kiss.
35:50.865 --> 35:51.787
[SPEAKER_02]: And now kiss.
35:52.227 --> 35:54.191
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm being in the background orchestrating things.
35:54.872 --> 35:57.958
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so yeah, I also think that's all a good jumping off point too.
35:57.938 --> 36:00.981
[SPEAKER_04]: and we're trying to convince Kim to do it for every Christmas.
36:01.241 --> 36:05.405
[SPEAKER_02]: So listen, I said that I will do it again this year for Christmas.
36:05.585 --> 36:06.987
[SPEAKER_02]: That might be the new tradition.
36:07.007 --> 36:08.028
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
36:08.328 --> 36:09.229
[SPEAKER_04]: Look, I think it should be.
36:09.589 --> 36:11.992
[SPEAKER_04]: I love doing that one.
36:12.012 --> 36:12.252
[SPEAKER_03]: That's fine.
36:12.272 --> 36:27.827
[SPEAKER_03]: Some of our best stuff, where our holiday specials, what I usually point people to for D&D arc, is our mini campaign, Call of Kathubi do, where we did a Scooby-Doo mystery, where the players were mystery ink in the Call of Kathulu system.
36:27.807 --> 36:37.581
[SPEAKER_03]: Our second Halloween special is Muppet Alien, where we're playing the prewritten module cherry to the gods, which has pre-built characters in it.
36:38.002 --> 36:45.833
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're the pre-built and pre-baked characters are played by Muppets, and it says if the whole thing is a film special for the Muppet Show.
36:45.813 --> 36:51.861
[SPEAKER_03]: Our current interstitial campaign, DN Dark Souls, is in the Dark Souls system and setting.
36:52.242 --> 36:53.764
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a dark fantasy fairy tale.
36:54.184 --> 36:56.988
[SPEAKER_03]: Ben really wanted to do a Kingdom Hearts game.
36:57.609 --> 37:03.256
[SPEAKER_03]: And I encourage him to broaden it out a bit more to general fairy tales and less Disney.
37:03.316 --> 37:04.418
[SPEAKER_03]: It's still very Disney.
37:04.558 --> 37:06.741
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's basically Disney Dark Souls.
37:06.721 --> 37:18.804
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a very fun one, very combat heavy, much more dramatic than a lot of our campaigns tend to go, but it's been a very interesting experiment and experience that we've learned a lot from.
37:18.844 --> 37:27.480
[SPEAKER_03]: We did a kids on Bikes 1 a little bit earlier in the year that was our one and only single-sitting one shot.
37:27.460 --> 37:29.887
[SPEAKER_03]: That was just a classic Agatha Christie who done it.
37:29.947 --> 37:31.712
[SPEAKER_03]: We all played detective archetypes.
37:31.772 --> 37:33.958
[SPEAKER_03]: And so we had like an inspector gadget.
37:33.978 --> 37:35.242
[SPEAKER_03]: We had a Colombo.
37:35.322 --> 37:36.505
[SPEAKER_03]: We had a noir cop.
37:36.545 --> 37:42.803
[SPEAKER_03]: We had a Simon Pegg from Hot Fuzz, kind of fresh out of the Academy by the books detective.
37:42.783 --> 37:44.145
[SPEAKER_03]: So that was a ton of fun.
37:44.746 --> 37:52.540
[SPEAKER_03]: I usually for our show point people to start with one of our bonus one shots or mini campaigns and then jump into the main show.
37:52.560 --> 37:58.530
[SPEAKER_03]: Their low commitment, their lower episode counts and it's a good sense of our sense of humor.
37:58.510 --> 38:21.025
38:21.005 --> 38:26.255
[SPEAKER_03]: But there's definitely a leap in production quality and in our own personal skill.
38:26.696 --> 38:33.990
[SPEAKER_03]: So I usually steer people towards later episodes that are a bit more polished than when we started.
38:34.231 --> 38:35.774
[SPEAKER_01]: That's so valid.
38:35.794 --> 38:37.377
[SPEAKER_01]: Because yeah, I get it.
38:37.610 --> 38:41.256
[SPEAKER_03]: So keeping an eye on time, we're starting to run up on the clock.
38:41.617 --> 38:52.254
[SPEAKER_03]: If there's any other topics that you all want to broach, any things that you want to make sure that we cover, any things that you don't want left unsaid, any miscellaneous things that you would want to add.
38:52.675 --> 38:53.496
[SPEAKER_03]: Now is the time.
38:53.897 --> 38:55.860
[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is Star Wars.
38:56.922 --> 38:57.983
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to forget that.
38:58.003 --> 38:58.885
[SPEAKER_00]: Keep it in your heart.
39:01.810 --> 39:03.212
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's all I have to say.
39:03.884 --> 39:06.894
[SPEAKER_04]: Just watch Star Wars, you'll get, you'll get everything else.
39:07.095 --> 39:09.824
[SPEAKER_04]: You don't watch Star Wars, you guys.
39:09.845 --> 39:12.915
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a push to watch, Star Wars, that's it.
39:14.347 --> 39:18.775
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a long con of our podcast act.
39:18.795 --> 39:19.476
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh god.
39:20.838 --> 39:21.359
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no.
39:21.379 --> 39:23.302
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's anything else really.
39:23.342 --> 39:24.745
[SPEAKER_02]: I think we covered most of it.
39:24.805 --> 39:28.672
[SPEAKER_02]: If we seem like you're sort of GM, you should listen to us please.
39:29.032 --> 39:29.653
[SPEAKER_02]: We're a lot of fun.
39:29.693 --> 39:30.214
[SPEAKER_02]: I promise.
39:30.935 --> 39:31.216
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
39:31.296 --> 39:34.802
[SPEAKER_03]: And on that note, can you remind our listeners where they can find your show?
39:34.782 --> 39:38.432
[SPEAKER_02]: Most places you can find us at the number five GMs in a trench coat.
39:38.933 --> 39:41.641
[SPEAKER_02]: You can look up for gyms in a trench coat.com to find our website.
39:41.922 --> 39:47.316

39:47.357 --> 39:50.445
[SPEAKER_02]: We have all of Tamlin's art on that website.
39:50.425 --> 39:54.290
[SPEAKER_02]: Tamland does all of our character art, most of our cover art, stuff like that.
39:54.570 --> 39:57.253
[SPEAKER_02]: And we also have really cool animatics for each season that we do.
39:57.814 --> 39:59.115
[SPEAKER_02]: So check that out for sure.
39:59.415 --> 40:00.717
[SPEAKER_02]: You can find us on social media.
40:01.017 --> 40:02.819
[SPEAKER_02]: Most places at five gyms in a trench coat.
40:03.380 --> 40:08.706
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe on blue sky, we're at at five gyms official because five gyms in trench coat was too long for blue sky.
40:08.746 --> 40:10.048
[SPEAKER_02]: So they said, no, no, no.
40:10.468 --> 40:11.950
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, okay, I guess fine.
40:12.791 --> 40:14.353
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that's where you can find most of us.
40:14.413 --> 40:17.777
