00:00:00.179 --> 00:00:09.689
I'm yet to ever have a conversation with someone who isn't inspired and thrilled and saying I would have paid more, you know. And I know that I'm making this money back in my business.
00:00:13.710 --> 00:00:16.469
Chelsea Lopez, Mark Williams. How are you?
00:00:16.769 --> 00:00:17.070
I'm good.
00:00:17.609 --> 00:00:21.289
You are amazing at your craft, and you're amazing person.
00:00:21.559 --> 00:00:25.910
You're so kind. I get you. You have been with us since the very beginning, I believe.
00:00:26.269 --> 00:00:26.329
Yeah.
00:00:26.660 --> 00:00:30.469
First time I met you. Did I meet you before Nashville, or no? Was that the first time?
00:00:30.710 --> 00:00:39.590
You forget a little part of the story sometimes, which is that you actually asked me if you should call Morgan and find out what this is about. So we were already working together before that.
00:00:39.979 --> 00:00:46.780
Yeah, and I told you, 100% You should do this thing, and you should talk to Morgan about it.
00:00:44.109 --> 00:00:47.950
And then, and then magic.
00:00:48.189 --> 00:00:48.340
Uh huh.
00:00:48.909 --> 00:01:26.838
I remember it's funny the other day because I took my daughter May. She was five to Nashville, and with my and my sister-in-law was there, and I had these amazing photos of you. I was like throwing my daughter up in the air, and you have you know you're such a talented photographer and you know capture of like motion and energy and I to this day when we sometimes when May and I my daughter will snuggle up and she'll be like Dad show me she calls him BF she knows it's not baby photos she calls it with an F and I was like great and so but anyway that one just came up last week and so and I said oh I'm going to Contractor Coalition in Chicago and she's like, "When can I go to the next one again? Yeah, because she got to go to number one, and didn't she get to go because she loves Dolly Parton?
00:01:26.959 --> 00:01:48.188
She did, yeah. So she had a whole Dolly Parton experience in Nashville. What do you see from you know you're literally through the lens? You have seen a lot of these. You've seen all of us as leaders grow. You saw me come from an attendee to a host. What are some observations? What is your relationship with the contractor coalition?
00:01:48.609 --> 00:02:17.580
It's like such a big question that I would like. We'll just see what like comes out of my brain because I think about this a lot, and I'm always. What's cool is I get to interact with everyone, right? And so whether it's at the dinners, and it's all part of even getting authentic content is talking to everyone and kind of getting to know people, checking in how they're feeling. Because you always say this is drinking from a fire hose with all the information coming fast. So I'm always interested in how people are doing, how they're feeling.
00:02:17.639 --> 00:03:12.240
Are they feeling like they're getting their value? I'm aware that it's not a small investment to be here, and so I'm always interested in hearing people say how and why they feel it's worth it. And one, there was a time that I don't remember if Doug wasn't there for some reason. I got to do the testimonials, and so I got that unique eye too of being able to ask everyone those questions about what are you taking back with you, blah blah blah. So I'm yet to ever have a conversation with someone who isn't inspired and thrilled and saying I would have paid more, you know. And I know that I'm making this money back in my business with implementing the thing I learned in the first five minutes, you know. And I know that's a story that we all tell, but I mean, it's it's so true. One, it happens again, yet again and again and again, and even to alumni, it happens again, right?
00:03:08.759 --> 00:04:05.699
Again, and even and even from the hosts. I mean, there are times where Nick is up there, and Morgan will giving her presentation about what, and he's like, "Wait, he'll have a question. Like, so I think because none of us are static, and everyone is evolving and becoming, trying to become better versions of themselves, not only as a person but as a business. That it's dynamic, so it continues to evolve. Totally, yeah, and I think everyone's excited. You know, everyone's excited to be here, even just from that first night happy hour welcome party where not everyone knows each other very well, or maybe they don't know anyone. To you, kind of get to like see you know who kind of pairs up with who, and then how people start to really it just enjoy each other and the way they're engaging. And there's always from minute one to the end, everyone's talking shop, everyone's got ideas, everyone's talking about this or that problem or this cool thing they're doing, and you hear that buzz constant, which is so cool.
00:04:07.439 --> 00:04:49.389
Yeah, I mean, I get I get energized and jazzed up to. I mean, I basically work around the clock till I can't keep my eyes open, you know, because I want to edit the stuff that we're doing right away, and I want to get it in people's hands. Yeah, and that's cool too because then it's a it's a value add. I see my role as get a little bit of a value add to the people that are here and the sponsors. And so what I want to be doing is providing things that people feel like they they look good, they're well represented, because that's stuff that then they want to download and use, and then they're remembering where they got that from or what that event was, and hopefully talking about it, and also just supporting what they're doing in business by having some hopefully good content that they can use and share.
00:04:49.598 --> 00:05:28.519
When we have such an embarrassment of riches in terms of relationships, and specifically myself being in Minnesota, you're in Minnesota, we get to work a lot, you know, even outside the contractor coal. Summit, and you know, as we've expanded to other things, and I see other photos or other video videos that are being produced, I'm like, wow, you know, to have such a dependable partner to make our brand look amazing, to make the people look amazing. I can't tell me you know this, but for those that don't, it's like you are so good at making sure, and people trust you, especially women. When you say no, this is going to make you look better. Just trust me.
00:05:28.579 --> 00:05:54.218
And like I've heard your lines, having worked with you for four or five years now. But it's like it's really fun because people, you know, their brand, their business is important to them, and your job and your passion and your and your creativity is like how can I, you know, make them the best versions of themselves for that split interaction that someone might interact with them on social media, their website, or even just for themselves. Yeah.
00:05:51.309 --> 00:06:07.439
However, they choose to you know interact with it. And have you had stories where people have had it, and you're like, Chelsea, I I need. Can you have you ever had people say, "Can I can you come to me? Can you can you work with me? Can I? How can you do this more for me?
00:06:07.829 --> 00:06:10.860
You mean like people here? Yeah, from any contractor coalition.
00:06:09.180 --> 00:07:36.500
Oh yeah, yeah, always. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, and yeah, and and tons of business opportunities, and even with the sponsors. I mean, I've I've gone to, I've traveled with Builder Trend more than once. I was just at the CBUSA summit in DC, and then someone who used to work at one of the sponsoring companies went somewhere else, and I went and shot their event for their thing. And what's cool is it's not the same format as this by any means, but it's also the go to a resort or a hotel type of place, interact with everybody, get jazzed up about what they're doing and the the friendships and the connections and people learning things and so as much as there's not a formula to it, there is at the same time because it's like the sponsorships are always different, the people are always different, but it's still that the people part, I guess, right, and that's that's what I love about it. It's not the technical act of photography or videography or even editing a cool thing as much as that's the vehicle. I like to make people feel good. I like to support other people's passion, their business, whatever that is, and that's like what makes me happy about it, and so that's why this is the best thing ever because I get to do that over and over and over and over and over all day long for four days. Yeah, I feel like every let's call it class.
00:07:31.370 --> 00:07:55.389
You know, every class that you come into, there I would say a builder probably makes four to five really close connections where they sort of at least that was my experience and you have you know you you start talking to each other you know a couple times a year then it's a couple times a month and then it might be weekly and then you know you you just form a bond of friendship and relationships.
00:07:56.290 --> 00:08:15.959
Are there relationships that stand out to you or that you have made with builders? Like I know you've become, you know, obviously very tight with our partners and our sponsors, and with the five of us in particular. But are there any builders that you have sort of connected with, or is that not is that more of like the attendees feel that?
00:08:16.680 --> 00:09:50.499
No, I think for sure. Yeah, I mean, a few come to mind for sure. I like hesitate to say anyone in particular to like not like, but no, totally. And I've supported in different ways too, where it's whether it's even just people that give love to on social media and kind of follow along what they're doing, and then people that give big hugs to when we when I see them at the Builder Show, or you know, there's all that there's that piece of it, and yeah, I've we've like come up with some ideas to come out and do different shoots at different states, even you know, because yeah, it's just cool to like know that they even see the value outside of this. To your point, and yeah, I feel like friendship, you know, like it starts with that, and then hopefully the trust and you know they know that I would give that full commitment to like whatever their vision is and I love that like that shows because that is that's all I care about and I feel like it's this is a cool opportunity to just do all that I care about right and people see that and learn that just organically I guess when you look at where Contractor Coalition started to where it is now, not only but I mean think about the number of team people that are involved behind the scenes. You know, you know the majority of what's happening, and not even probably all of it. But there's a lot of moving pieces. What are some of your observations from an operational level, or just as you look at it, saying like,"Hey, this is where I've seen it grow, and this is where, like, where do you think it's going to go to?
00:09:50.980 --> 00:10:02.190
Yeah, I mean, I really don't know much about the operations piece of it, even really the strategy behind it. I kind of am told where it's going to be.
00:09:58.450 --> 00:10:04.679
Yeah, and I show up, and it's just people have ideas they want to throw at me in the moment.
00:10:04.679 --> 00:10:07.830
That's kind of where I thrive.
00:10:04.679 --> 00:10:32.090
Like I'm not, turns out not a big planner. Like just throw things at me and let me make it work. I feel like though the main thing from beginning till now that just stands out so much to me is when you're at the the happy hour event at the Builder Show, where everyone's in town for a different reason, and the way that that room has expanded, and the way that like I mean that energy is palpable, right?
00:10:32.149 --> 00:10:57.220
I mean this last one specifically is just like because that room was packed, and it was packed with everyone who felt like they knew each other well, and was you know, and it's just like that support that everyone has. Anyone could call anyone, you know what I mean? Like I don't know how to like put it into eloquent words, but it's like I mean, it's like a big family. It's like a Thanksgiving. It's like Christmas. It's like you know, seeing the weirdest. Yeah, you know.
00:10:57.970 --> 00:11:19.799
Yeah, I mean, it becomes a big social community family, if you will. Yeah, I know it sounds kind of woo-woo, but I think it's because people show up, you know, and people have very similar aspirations, and so the people-it's very sticky. The community is extremely sticky in terms of how people stay in touch and how they continue to evolve and sort of stay in each other's circles.
00:11:19.919 --> 00:11:24.049
Yeah, and and I'm yet to see anything other than just that.
00:11:24.289 --> 00:11:39.830
You know, I mean, full positive, everyone helping each other genuinely, like because they want to. You know, we haven't seen. It's funny. We were commenting about this. I was just talking. I was interviewing Nick here, and I can't think of a single bad apple. Not one, which is wild.
00:11:39.860 --> 00:12:10.080
That we've had over 350, 400 alumni at this point, and not a single one. Like that's defying the odds. Like that doesn't make sense. You'd have at least one, yeah, but none. There hasn't even been a single one, and I don't think anyone has ever said that wasn't worth every investment penny that I had. We heard a story last night that was really inspiring to me, which was you know, someone had a very difficult year, lost almost everything. They only had they said like 10,000 in the bank, and they invested it to come to Contractor Coalition.
00:12:10.289 --> 00:12:16.919
Did you hear this story? No. And within a year, their business has completely turned around.
00:12:14.100 --> 00:12:23.870
They're having the best client they've ever had, one of the top revenue years they've ever had, and they're just in a completely different place. That's wild.
00:12:24.590 --> 00:12:30.350
That's like taking your last paycheck, literally just saying like I'm putting it on red with, and I'm just gonna trust.
00:12:30.470 --> 00:12:40.899
And I'm just and wow. I mean, I on one hand that's like, and then on the other hand I'm like tracks because I'm because I've been seeing you know what I mean.
00:12:38.600 --> 00:12:56.740
Like I have been a little fly on the wall, yeah, and not maybe even as much. Doug has more of the stories, right? Because he's gotten literally everyone's. But yeah, I mean, I one that stands out to me that I interviewed the time in Austin when I did them was it was a father and a son.
00:12:57.519 --> 00:13:00.009
Father had started the business, so he had he what did he say?
00:13:00.100 --> 00:13:42.009
He'd been in the business 40 years or something. He was he had been building since he was like 19. He's starting to look towards retiring and passing the business to his son. His son heard about it probably from you know listening to one of the podcasts or whatever. Heard about it, told his dad about it, convinced. Then the dad said, at first I was like, "What do you mean you want me to buy two tickets to this thing, you know, and he's like, "I'm about to pass on, you know, pass not pass on, but pass the business on, and that he just said his son was adamant and really made a good case for it, and he, like, no doubt in his mind, he was like, "This was absolutely an incredible investment. This is exactly what we should have done together. Like, it was so cool.
00:13:38.480 --> 00:13:51.039
He and he truly-he'd been building for 40 years, running the business for almost that long. He didn't really need anything, but he did. You know?
00:13:51.429 --> 00:13:57.399
Yeah, I mean those stories are just encouraging, and they kind of fuel up the the emotional fuel tank on so many levels.
00:13:57.820 --> 00:14:14.490
Both not only to hear it, but also you want to provide value to everyone. You're trying to provide value, you know, to the people here. We're trying to provide value in the way that you know people come here and you know level up their business and in our in our industry as well. Maybe the last question
00:14:14.580 --> 00:14:17.970
You're obviously close personally to Morgan as well.
00:14:18.629 --> 00:14:33.379
How have you seen her grow as someone who's also close to Morgan. I have some of my thoughts on it, but I'm curious from your point of view. How have you seen Morgan mature and grow into the role that she is, you know, doing so well with?
00:14:33.649 --> 00:14:55.419
Yeah, I think that's a really good, a really good question because, yeah, I mean, from the first one, Morgan is like you and I. We're yes people. We can make that work. We can figure that out. Like I trust myself. I can, you know, we can be confident. Let's let's do the thing. Whatever. And I would say Morgan on contractor coalition number one was let's do this.
00:14:55.570 --> 00:14:58.629
And without maybe quite as much of a plan, quite as much of a.
00:15:00.659 --> 00:15:07.289
What's even the word like? Not as much experience, even doing like the full clean presentation where it's just her up there.
00:15:07.320 --> 00:15:17.759
She had done a lot of panels and that type of thing in a speaking kind of a role. And I feel like now, fast forward to what are we eight? The eighth?
00:15:17.970 --> 00:15:18.029
Yeah.
00:15:19.379 --> 00:15:31.159
I feel like she's like a well-oiled machine. Oh, I guess let me say one other thing. The thing about like speaking is she just had so many ideas, right?
00:15:26.539 --> 00:16:26.659
She is so smart and so dialed in on everything that it's of course hard to like make a clean A to B to C to E, you know, like down the points and then B A is or B point one da da da, and I feel like that was harder for people to follow at the beginning, and so I feel like maybe harder to get like the clean takeaway nuggets. But I feel like even from one to two, and then two to three, she like I feel like everyone knows exactly what their next steps are going to be now, and they're like they can now see themselves being able to do the things that she's talking about. Where before it was like, well, that she's doing the most, you know, and she's still doing the most in her business, but she's speaking about it in a way now that is so much cleaner and more polished. In a way that then people get even more value out of it.
00:16:26.840 --> 00:16:36.320
No, that's I 100% agree with you. I think in terms of you know there's the five of us now.
00:16:31.039 --> 00:16:45.100
How would you describe our differences and similarities, and how does that sort of spherical, what's the right word?
00:16:45.429 --> 00:16:47.409
Like the synergy or something.
00:16:45.429 --> 00:17:06.029
Yeah, like yeah, like the spherical synergy. Well, just that it's like. I mean, I kind of feel like all of our personalities sort of round out all the different types of personality. But we are all very different people. But it really works. I'm curious what you notice about sort of our the strengths of one and the weaknesses of another, and how we operate, you know, as a team.
00:17:06.240 --> 00:19:25.970
Yeah, no, I mean, I think bringing you in the role that you're in, I hope you're thrilled with it because it is the most perfect, like missing link. You were the one, and you know, even just the way that you can MC a thing and the way that you'll you'll step in and be the guy, or you'll be the supporting role, and all and you'll just get jazz up the people, and you know, and and also I think that Morgan was trying to do more of that role before, and I think it takes some of that pressure off of her too to always need to rally everybody, and so having another one of those personalities is huge, but it's so cool because it feels like the circle, whatever we want to call it. But it feels like anyone can see themselves in either one or bits of everyone, right? And so it's really neat to have all different like types of businesses and goals within your businesses, things that you're doing that are like your bread and butter is different than what someone else's bread and butter is, and I just think that alone brings major value across the board. And then, yeah, maybe someone's like, "I'm really quiet. How could I run a business like him? But then again, then it's so much easier to take a nugget than that they can grab from you, that they can grab from someone else, you know what I mean. And I, you know, I'm not in your planning meetings, but I would think that it just has to feel so much better to everyone too to just have, okay, here's your area that you're going to handle, and you're going to handle this area. Like it just feels so smooth from the outside looking in. Because again, I show up and I'm like, all right, what am I supposed to be? Like what? A little bit. Like you know, we talk about it in construction with an architect, a designer, and a builder. Healthy tension. So you know, to have disagreements, but you really, everyone has a common goal of delivering value, increasing the brand, and having something that we all feel fulfilled in, and something that's also very rewarding, and it's a business as well, and it can be all of those things. Not not wanting, not mutually exclusive. You can do multiple things and and have it be all together. And I think having different points of view, I think it's there's also an entertainment aspect to it, right? I mean, you're being educated, you're being entertained. Like you know, it's kind of covering all kinds of different. There's nothing quite like it that I'm aware of.
00:19:26.269 --> 00:20:13.650
Yeah, I mean, certainly not that I'm a part of, or I get to be a part of. And yeah, I just I can't say enough about just how much this feels, to your point, like it feels family-ish. You know, I mean, it really, and it's just cool. I don't know if this is still a thing, but I feel like it's talked about a lot too. That in the industry that you guys are in as builders, there's not always a lot of sharing and helping. At least not the people at your doing the same thing that could be perceived competition, and that's another thing that I think is really cool. Is like, I mean, there's someone here right now that's from. Same market that holds more than one in the market that Brad's in, for example, and they they're buddies. They're tight. They could be in absolute direct competition, but there's enough work for everyone to go around.
00:20:13.890 --> 00:20:28.789
And like, why gatekeep and why you know? And look at how much more everyone is doing because of that attitude, and it's that like not having the scarcity mindset, but just the like abundance mindset, right? Like let's go, let's all do more.
00:20:29.029 --> 00:20:29.990
Yep, I love it.
00:20:30.200 --> 00:20:36.349
So that's what it feels like in here to me, me, the fly on the wall. Love it. While you're, I'd say you're a butterfly.
00:20:37.009 --> 00:20:39.440
The fly in everybody's face.
00:20:37.009 --> 00:20:40.240
Yeah, exactly. Get that camera out of here. Exactly.
00:20:41.049 --> 00:20:46.390
Thank you for being our friend, for being a part of it, and we love having you.
00:20:47.019 --> 00:20:49.539
I love being here. I'll come till they kick me out.
00:20:51.099 --> 00:20:52.240
Otherwise, I'll always be back.
00:20:52.599 --> 00:21:00.640
