Speaker 1: Raise A thirteen ten FM and good afternoon, and welcome to Community Connection. I'm Tina Cosby. Today is Wednesday, March twenty fifth, and is March twenty fifth. All day long? Isn't it are?
00:00:12
Speaker 2: All day day fifth?
00:00:14
Speaker 1: Whoa, We've been a long day already.
00:00:17
Speaker 2: You know it has. Yes, I've been busy. I know you've been busy.
00:00:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, you had. You had a line waiting outside your office.
00:00:23
Speaker 3: I did people coming in to record things clients, which is good.
00:00:27
Speaker 2: They're buying time.
00:00:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, keeping us in, keeping us in the house.
00:00:31
Speaker 2: Exactly, keep it coming.
00:00:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, we love that. So three one seven, four eight zero thirteen ten. Three one seven, four eight zero thirteen ten is the number two the show and on the show today, you have no doubt been hearing about the HBCU All Star Game and the experience coming to town Final four weekend again. It will be in the city for the first time ever during the Final four weekend, which is of course the biggest college weekend in the country. A lot of people might say college basketball weekend in the country, just huge, huge, huge interest in the craziness, the March craziness. We can't say them words, no we can't, but we can say craziness, we can say.
00:01:15
Speaker 3: That, there's so many I saw so many things we can't say. I'm like, but this would be what free advertisement promoting it and we're promoting it, so saying hey, check this out, but we can't say this, We can't say that, can't use that.
00:01:28
Speaker 1: Well, it's their infringement on their brand process, so, you know, like stealing. But if they want us to talk about it, isn't that interesting? Do you find that interesting?
00:01:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like talk about it, but you can't say that.
00:01:42
Speaker 1: You can't say it because that's ours. That's ours. Okay, Okay, I'm like you what you talk about it, but you can't say well anyway, you know, like we were saying, for the very first time ever here in the city of Indianapolis, we are going to be experiencing an experience that's true. Yeah, And so for the remainder of the show are coming up, we're going to have a lot of things from the Black Business Showcase to gospel karaoke to the Black College Fair admissions for It's all going to be one of the many things on the lineup, and we're going to talk about a number of those this afternoon. That starts about yeah, maybe around thirty minutes from now, round one thirty. So right now, let's go ahead and bring in our contributing analyst, James Patterson. James, how are you.
00:02:33
Speaker 4: Hey? I'm fine enough. First I want to say happy birthday belatedly, Tina.
00:02:37
Speaker 1: Well, thank you, thank.
00:02:38
Speaker 4: You very much. You had a birthday?
00:02:41
Speaker 1: I did. I did Sunday, Yeah.
00:02:43
Speaker 4: Sunday, Monday. And did you have a good day.
00:02:45
Speaker 1: It was a good day. Yes, yes, my family took me out to eat and you know, if you know me, that's all day long, that'll do it. That'll get her done, I'll tell you. But no, it was it was fine.
00:02:59
Speaker 5: It was.
00:03:00
Speaker 1: It was you know, it's always a blessing to have have another one and to be able to celebrate it as such. But thank you very much. I enjoyed it.
00:03:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, that was that was great. I mean we didn't really we kind of missed that line. And you know we all need to be lashed for that.
00:03:17
Speaker 1: No, not at all, not at all, not at all.
00:03:20
Speaker 4: I have now made a mental and literal note that shouldn't happen again.
00:03:26
Speaker 1: Well, I've I've made a mental note to of the birthday. So it's just click but James, you've you've been hearing about this HBCU experience. It's coming in, you know, in conjunction with I mean wherever the final four weekend sets up. I learned, uh, the HBCU All Star Game and experience sets up. And they've been doing so for at least the past five years, and so this year is Indie's turn, and boy, what an experience they have, What a lineup, It's it's just incredible the things that are going to be taking place.
00:03:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it sure is deservedly so because HBCUs, as many people know, stands for historically Black Colleges and universities. Yeah, and so they really don't get the exposure that the so called D one or Division one schools get and as a result, they have difficult time attracting athletes, difficult time attracting money, a difficult time attracting attention. So this is really really good for the NCAA and their March blank program, you know, their.
00:04:46
Speaker 1: March the Frenzy, the frenzy, March frenzy. What's another M word?
00:04:54
Speaker 4: I like what you said when you were talking to Eric, what do you call it? March craziness? That alliable alliable.
00:05:02
Speaker 1: They can't take that away from us. Yeah, well, yeah, the only one word they tell us we can't say. You know, it's kind of like that the Big Game that happens every what January or February, the Big Game. You can't say the SB word. So no, but we're supposed to, Eric, we're supposed to pump it up and talk about it and you know, share all the events associated with as such. But I just think it's a brilliant idea to bring this hbc you experience to Final four weekend wherever that may be, because we have, guess what, we have HBCU alumni. I don't care where you put the Final Four, you're going to find some HBCU alumni. And you got a big alumni base and just about every city every place in the United States of America. So I think it can be appreciated everywhere. And I you know, like I said, that's just a brilliant idea.
00:05:56
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, And it brings together, you know, kind of two. You know, culture is too. You know, you've got HBCUs plus the the regular n c A A, which you know HB Hughes are integrated to, but more so in the in the in the bigger schools, the you know, the the the universities and of the Division one. And my point was, and then we can go back because because you'll be you know, it'll be discussed today as you mentioned all the things that will be happening around this HBCU men's basketball. Is it just men's, right, just men's.
00:06:34
Speaker 1: It is just the men. Yeah, but they there, they've got the women in conversations and because I remember remember when he was in here and we asked, so they're they're noodling on it, they're trying to figure it out.
00:06:45
Speaker 4: Yes, Yeah, I just think it's a great opportunity for people to get the exposure of these athletes who are very, very gifted athletes in their own right. It's just that they didn't get recruited by the bigger schools. You know. Some of them went to small high schools. Some of them went to high schools and played behind the one or two stars that that got to go to the Indiana universities or the Ohio States or the Wisconsins or that Iowa's. But you know it's still they're still they got game, you know what I'm saying. They get their talented and they'll show that and the more exposure they get, I think the more opportunity they will have, uh for to get into the bigger circles you know, uh the NBA and and the d League and some of the other leagues that are that are higher.
00:07:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, you make an excellent point, James about exposure, because not only exposure, but just networking. You know. You know, with these the you know, with with both events being parallel to each other, you know doing you know, they're they're not they're not in direct conflict with each other, but you know, going at the same time. And what I always said, and I I you know, this kind of touched me a lot because we talk about when big games and big things come to town and how these organizations can do more to engage the community because the community a lot of times gets left out. You know, the community's asked to support and you know, they have their little even now I shouldn't say little, they have their events and activities. But by and large, I think this is a lot more community inclusive, I really do. I think it's I think it's a lot more community friendly in terms of pricing the outreach. I mean, you've got a well award ceremony. You've got college and Scholarship fair, You've got community outreach, you've got the food pantry event, you've got social justice and so a lot of things that you just don't see, not that they don't don't have them. I guess I just don't see it. But there's just so much more community involvement for the HBCU historically Black colleges and universities can community that. I like everything about it, I really do. I just think it's great.
00:09:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know it just like I said that the opportunities in networking is one of them. It just elevates. And this is what as we go go along, you know, this is what it's going to take to have a better world, a better society is working with one another. And you know, associations like this hbc U League or All Star Game Men's basketball with the n c a A March blank, you know, with that will inevitably lead to bigger and better things for both institutions.
00:09:53
Speaker 1: I think it can grow both. I think it can grow the n c a A and it can certainly grow the hbc I mean, look at just with one d one coach or one you know coach with national ties Deon Sanders. Look what look what that did for Jackson State. I mean, my goodness, and and the yeah yeah, and the league are doing well absolutely so. Anyway, so we're we're gonna be talking about that the rest of the show. After we a little bit after one thirty, James, uh world news events, different things. I don't I don't even know where to start the uh mhm. There was an offer I guess made a ceasefire offer made to Iran.
00:10:40
Speaker 3: I'm sorry, ahead, I'm sorry, I'm gonna turn my mind.
00:10:43
Speaker 1: Did you hear Eric?
00:10:45
Speaker 4: Well, I did hear his I want to hear more, you know, because I think I agree with whatever he's about to say, but I want to hear more.
00:10:55
Speaker 3: But I'm Eric, go ahead, I'm just I'm just saying, yeah, you take it. I I I probably start laughing halfway through.
00:11:02
Speaker 1: Well, I think it's ridiculous. You go hit somebody. Okay, I'm gonna put it in the simplest terms. You go hit somebody upside the head, and then you hit them upside the other side of their head path, and then you step on them, and then when you're walking away, you spit on them, and so then you say, hey, come on, let let's let's do some stuff together.
00:11:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go ahead, let's go Yeah, let's.
00:11:21
Speaker 1: Let's do that. That's I mean, that's about as simple as simplistically as it can be put in terms of the mindset of what are what in the world are you thinking these people have. They're they're ready, they're ready to go there, they're loaded for bear. They're like, Okay, you started it, we'll finish it. And he's like and and you know, the the I guess the sentiment, if you will, or what it looks like, is okay, okay, I you know, I'm through now I want to do something else. And they're like, no, you don't you know, So cease fired deal. In more formal terms, Trump administration offered a fifteen point ceasefire deal to the leaders of Iran, and they flatly sujected it. No, they said no.
00:12:14
Speaker 4: His ceasefire deal is a surrender. And the markets were just dropping like a rock late last week. And then you know, Trump, the manipulator, realize that, and every time that happens he does try to do something to turn it around. So what he did was he whispered. This was the first person I ever seen by the way, who has to be on have his face on the on the media every day, even when he's flying home for the weekend. Okay, he's got to be on every day, every single day. Will you give us a break? But anyway, he figured out that the market was break draw dropping. So what he said was, uh, yeah, we're we're we're we're talking. Well, well, what what was it? He gave that ultimatum right within forty eight hours. If you don't, we're gonna bomb your.
00:13:16
Speaker 2: Bitch.
00:13:16
Speaker 6: You up.
00:13:19
Speaker 4: More'n we're gonna bomb your power, so everybody will be in the dark.
00:13:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're gonna get you.
00:13:25
Speaker 4: We're yeah, exactly. So so he figured out the market. That's what he really cares about is then the markets were dropping, and so he figured out he said, well, I'm not gonna bomb you, but I'll give you five days, you know. And besides, you know, uh, somebody has reached out from Iran and we're talking. So immediately the markets went up a little bit, okay, and and you know, he said, we're gonna give you five days, and then he gives us fifteen point, which they reject because he's bombing them every day, you know, what my my position is, he's not going to He's not going to stop the war for any reason at all, as long as the Keiths Epstein out the headlines, the Epstein story. That's why he has over six thousand troops on the way. They got at least twenty five hundred to three thousand Marines. They've got an equal number of the one hundred first Airborne. Yeah, handing that way, the paratroopers. So you know, he ain't send them there to write Christmas cards. You know, he's going to put boots on the ground, whether it be the island, carg Island or one of the islands in the Strait. I mean, he's going to try to open the straight up himself.
00:14:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's try to stop lying.
00:14:49
Speaker 4: We see what you're doing. Stop lying.
00:14:51
Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but there are people that live and breathe for those lies and take them and you know, they just that's what they want to hear. Whatever he says, Yes, they do, they do whatever he says. Oh well, that's all right, and you all and you all are just picking on him. Why don't you give the man some support or la la la la la la la la la. I mean, my goodness, but he you know, he lied within the first week of the bombing attacks because he said he had no plans whatsoever to put troops on the ground. He said he had no plans whatsoever.
00:15:23
Speaker 7: To do that.
00:15:23
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, and uh, troops are headed that way. Now. It's expensive. This war is expensive. It's costing a billion dollars a day estimates. Estimates say about a billion dollars a day just to keep those ships over there.
00:15:41
Speaker 5: You know.
00:15:42
Speaker 4: Uh, basically when we were on station in the Gulf of Tonkin, we were just running in a big circle. You know, that's a lot of gas. You got to feed there.
00:15:51
Speaker 1: Wait, wait a minute, how what was they used to do during the Titanic They had those coal rooms and they were shoveling, shoveling. Yeah, they were shoveling the colt Uh you know, would that be cheaper because because trust said bring back cold you.
00:16:04
Speaker 4: Know, yeah, we had any time. I mean we had our boilers. Our boilers were you know, we had to fire them up. They ran our diesel fuels.
00:16:12
Speaker 1: So yeah, that's the key right there.
00:16:14
Speaker 4: You've got to feed everybody, you know, you got to pay everybody. And what what was it when the Defense Department was shut down. It's like every couple of weeks. I think it's like eight billion dollars. I mean it's not cheap. So for thirty eight billion, which they could have used to extend the Obamacare ACA, uh you know subsidies, uh, the Affordable Care AC subsidies for thirty eight billion, you know, and then they're spending close to that now in this like three four week war. And plus there's talk about him going to Congress to try to get two hundred billion more. So please, please, please, my god, please, I know, I.
00:17:00
Speaker 3: Know I paid fifty dollars, well, fifty dollas. Oh my god, I was like ouch every time it would click.
00:17:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, you got it. And your your drive is a little bit longer than some. I mean there are others here who drive further than you do, but I mean you have you have one of the more driveable uh expenses. I guess I should say one of the more expensive.
00:17:22
Speaker 4: Yeas, and Tina, what about the farmers. It's plant and season, brother and sister, it's plant and season, right, so they need fertilizer. They need fertilizer to put those the corn, the soybean, you know, into the ground. And what they say, like almost. It's a significant over half of the world's fertilizer goes through the straight of hor Mews. I think I heard ninety percent. It could be wrong, but you know, I mean, so where do you get it from? And they've got a plant now, he he was probably you know when he gave him that twelve billion dollars supplement for the farmers. They don't want that. They want to earn money. They don't want the supplement to tie them over. They want to earn money on their own. So did you guys hear about the state uh, the state representative the state Senate race in Florida, in Florida, Yeah.
00:18:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, Trump territory went in there and tore it up.
00:18:28
Speaker 8: The district that included yes, yes, yes.
00:18:32
Speaker 4: The Democrat won a district that Trump had won by double digits. And don't even get me started on the so called Save America Act because yeah, well Trump wants the voting by mail to go away.
00:18:49
Speaker 1: Okay, because he just voted by mail.
00:18:52
Speaker 4: For the Republicans who lost in the Senate race in his district that included mor Lago. He lost.
00:19:00
Speaker 1: Say that again, James, he did what by mail? And go go ahead, saying again.
00:19:03
Speaker 4: Voughted by mail in a state Senate race for the Republican and he wants to take away voting by mail across the country. He voted by mail, this hypocrite. He voted by mail in the state Senate race in West Palm Beach, Florida for his Republican candidate who lost.
00:19:24
Speaker 1: Who also he indorsed that candidate. Yes, he did, remember, And I think that that's a very important part of the situation as well, because how far does your endorsement go. I mean, you won this by double digits, and you're endorsing the candidate that you want to win, the GOP candidate to win, and you still lose.
00:19:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, you lost. So the people are not buying his stuff, and poor Eric fifty dollars to fill up his his his vehicle, you know.
00:19:55
Speaker 1: I mean, you don't have a guest. You don't have a guess, not at all.
00:20:00
Speaker 2: I'm like, I couldn't believe it.
00:20:01
Speaker 3: There was another guy in the pumpy said I he said, I thought would be no more than you know, maybe four yeah, three fifty nine a gallon that was.
00:20:09
Speaker 2: Over four four three.
00:20:11
Speaker 1: Well, you know what, Eric, today is pay day, so we got to make it last.
00:20:19
Speaker 7: Brother, we gotta let it.
00:20:21
Speaker 1: We got to make that last because today was our pay day, so I gotta I gotta fill up today to actually my low fuel like or it was on, Yes, and it was just as well. No, I wasn't paying attention. I was running errands, I got some work being done to my house this morning, and all kinds of other stuff, so I wasn't paying attention. And just as I pulled into the parking spot here outside the station, the light went on, Oh, says low fuel. I'm like, okay, well, I can make it to the gas station. Sure, make it. But when you don't pay attention to stuff, and you know, but I don't even, I guess I need to figure out where the cheapest is, because good luck do you? You don't use regular unletted you use I use the mid mid range. That's what I have to use too, because my car won't take regular unleaded, so there's an added expense anyway, you know. And then with higher prices.
00:21:14
Speaker 2: So and premium was five O nine.
00:21:16
Speaker 1: Okay, well then no, I use mid range. I could use premium, but white paper when premium will do premium. But the other thing is the you know, like you said, the premium being five dollars. Premium prices and diesel prices tend to run pretty pretty similar.
00:21:39
Speaker 2: That's true.
00:21:39
Speaker 1: Diesel might be just a tad bit higher, but they're closer in price than some of the others. So diesel's up there too, which impacts a lot of the truck drivers because a lot of the semi trucks the tractor trailer they take diesel. I don't know, but yeah, he's not. He wants to. He wants this same act passed before he allows for the partial government shutdown to end, leaving a lot of people in airports. Uh, folks gonna get crazy if they keep missing flights and all the other stuff. And he does not want to end the partial shutdown unless he gets his way one and some of the Republicans are even getting frustrated with him and speaking out. John Kennedy from was Louisiana, Louisiana.
00:22:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he was.
00:22:32
Speaker 1: He was putting he was making a plane.
00:22:35
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, to say that.
00:22:38
Speaker 4: Okay, women, women who are married, Okay, they would have to read register. Everybody would have to re register in person improve their citizenship. Women who are married, they a lot of you know, some of them keep their same name, like Sandra Jones, you know Smith, and maybe her maiden name was Jones. And some of them keep it, but many, many women, I say, most women take the name of their spouse, and so that's not the name on their voter registration, so they would have to dig up in some essemates have said as many as sixty over sixty million, sixty two. I think Tina, you said sixty nine. Whatever it is over sixty million women. Yeah, to go and find their birth certificate. Is it in a courthouse somewhere? Is it back in a trunk in the attic? Find their birth certificate or right off for a new one, okay, in order to re register. This is what this man wants. And then he doesn't want voting by mail. And yet this hypocrite just voted by mail himself the other day.
00:23:43
Speaker 1: I think he forgot God, I think, yeah, I think he forgot you know, he lives in an alternate universe and so I anyway, we got a caller that a Joe. You have a quick question for us.
00:23:55
Speaker 5: Yeah, I got a real quick question that works for a company by the name of All States. And it's ironic that you guys are talking because she received an email and it says it's time for you to update your employment record with all states and the following steps have to be completed five nine thirty I mean by three thirty twenty six. And here's what you need to do. And it says before you begin, you need to either have one document from list A which they don't show list AY because it's only for the employee, or from list B. But if you do this B, you've got to have a copy from list B and one from list C. And you know what those copies are, don't you? Firth certificate, passport, And down at the bottom below that, it says if you're unwilling or unable to complete this exercise, it could underscore could impact your employment status with all states.
00:25:08
Speaker 1: Sounds like all state employees might need to conduct or to get some services of an attorney. Is that that sounds illegal as I'll get out.
00:25:17
Speaker 5: Uh, it sounds that way with me, and what I'd like to know if I was working there, if I'm an employer or the people up above me doing the same thing.
00:25:30
Speaker 1: Well, yeah, there's that, but I don't know, James, I I.
00:25:37
Speaker 4: An attorney.
00:25:38
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:25:39
Speaker 4: My first thought is are we sure it's not a scam.
00:25:42
Speaker 5: No, it's not a scam. No. And she's been working for them for twenty years.
00:25:49
Speaker 4: So wait a minute. You said she needed to update her what.
00:25:52
Speaker 5: At the top of it, it's time for her to update it's her employment record up date.
00:26:01
Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
00:26:03
Speaker 1: When do you have to have a birth certificate for your employment anyway?
00:26:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, that doesn't Yeah, that doesn't make I would tell her to get a hold of you know, H Human Human Resources, Employee Relations, the labor group there their union. Do they have a union?
00:26:25
Speaker 5: No, they don't have a union.
00:26:27
Speaker 4: Well, she.
00:26:30
Speaker 5: Works in customer service. You've got an exemplary h A record with them, and I think that I think you're right, she needs to call HR and sign out, uh of what all of us is for.
00:26:47
Speaker 1: In fact, I'm thinking a little further than that. Some of that information your employer has no legal right to anyway, So why would you have to produce it.
00:26:56
Speaker 5: That's but you know, we check with a lawyer in d a friend of ours, and he came back and said, all of this is able.
00:27:05
Speaker 1: He said, it's all legal.
00:27:08
Speaker 5: You know what, I'll read what he said, Uh, real quick.
00:27:13
Speaker 9: Uh.
00:27:14
Speaker 5: He came back and said that uh, there are too many unknowns to determine that this is legal or not. Typically it's done at the hiring process, but employees have a wide latitude in most cases. From a lawyer friend of mine who lives in d C.
00:27:35
Speaker 1: Well, he didn't say it was It doesn't sound like you said it was legal.
00:27:39
Speaker 5: No, it doesn't, he said, he's been I've been told it's very legal. Employees had the ability to do it.
00:27:48
Speaker 4: Uh, Well, I would you know, I would, I would get some more opinions first.
00:27:52
Speaker 1: I was going to say, I'd ask another lawyer or somebody that yeah specializes.
00:27:57
Speaker 4: Heard of an employer who can demand your birth at nook at the passion, whether you are a citizen or not. And it's clear she's a citizen.
00:28:07
Speaker 5: Well, and at the bottom line, it sounds like it's going with these companies have been threatened and we don't know that. But if you don't do that, you know how it works.
00:28:19
Speaker 10: Uh.
00:28:19
Speaker 5: And it sounds like they're trying to get ahead of the game.
00:28:24
Speaker 11: I don't know.
00:28:26
Speaker 4: So you're talking about the voting issue. I don't think that's going anywhere.
00:28:32
Speaker 5: I really don't think it is either. But there's no reason for this company to be going after what they're asking for.
00:28:39
Speaker 1: No, none at all.
00:28:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, none.
00:28:41
Speaker 5: But anyway, you guys are running short on time. That's good talk to you. Enjoying this beautiful weather out here, James, I know you like it, oh ja yeah yeah.
00:28:52
Speaker 1: James, we didn't get a chance to get your weather report. We got to fit that in somewhere.
00:28:56
Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, And I say that.
00:29:00
Speaker 5: Nice day, man, and enjoying the conversation.
00:29:04
Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you. Nice next couple of days, right, James, I mean even.
00:29:08
Speaker 4: Warmer tomorrow, even warmer. We should break a record tomorrow.
00:29:13
Speaker 5: We're gonna break a record, all right with hell starts.
00:29:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the other.
00:29:17
Speaker 4: That comes in, Uh, that comes in later tomorrow over into Friday, when this cold front drops down. But we should be okay during the day tomorrow, after some rain tonight.
00:29:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, alrighty, we'll be right back with more. We're gonna go into the HBCU All Start Experience and All Star Game right after this.
00:29:42
Speaker 12: M let's get back to the conversation. It's community connection with Tita Cosby, brought to you by Child Advocates, a champion for justice, opportunity, and well being for children on Tree Am thirteen, ten ninety five point one FM.
00:30:03
Speaker 1: And we're back with Community Connection James. In addition to the weather, which we got a little mini version of it there, mini version of the forecast. Want to remind everyone each and every day. Monday, April sixth is the last day to register to vote in the state of Indiana, the last data register to vote. You can go to Indiana Voters dot i dot gov Indiana Voters dot i dot gov to register, check your voting status, vote by mail or traveling board, or find your voting and or you can do all the above, find your voting location or your vote center. Vote centers apply specifically to those of us living here in Marion County. So yeah, the deadline is rapidly approaching. And Indiana doesn't have very many things that as far as voting that I like to say, ooh, that's good, but vote centers are one. So make sure you're registered to vote so you can vote wherever you're going to be next to where going to be closest on primary election day. The primary election day is Tuesday, May the fifth. Tuesday May the fifth, you gotta be registered, you gotta have all your stuff in order, everything right, by Monday, April sixth, Indiana voters dot I in dot gov. So there you go, there you go, there you go. So, James, have you checked all yours checked everything out?
00:31:25
Speaker 4: I know I got to check it out. And uh, I know you wanted to get the weather in here. We got another. Yeah, just to answer your question fully, you know, no, and I And every time you say it, I keep thinking about it. I need to check it. I need to check it. Because one of the things that that they want to with this so called Save America Act is they want states to turn over all of their VULNAAR information.
00:31:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, everything, voter suppression. It's the way to steal, a legal way to steal the elections. That's what that's what did about what it is they can pull tax all of that involved. So yeah, let's hope, let's let's let's hope and pray that that continues to stay where it is, which is right now kind of in the trash right exactly.
00:32:14
Speaker 4: So that's the thing. So you know, to your question of whether I'm registered, people should check all the time because that's what they want that data so that they can delete names, people's names from the voter's roles. And and fool with you know, match it with social security information which they stole with the so called Department of Government Efficiency. But anyway, whether another fantastic day in store for us today, rank you Eric, Yeah, we should see a mix of clouds and sun today. We got mostly sunshine right now until the late afternoon when the clouds will well, we'll try to dominate. They're going to be moving in to to a larger degree. Uh but but breaks here and there sixty degrees Sena as we came on the air today, and we should get close to that seventy degree mark today today, okay, you know, and we'll get some I know Joe was talking about some presept but we'll get some scattered rain tonight. And also another round will come late tomorrow, but it's not going to impact the temperatures at all because temperatures tomorrow are supposed to soar into the eighties. Yeah, and we're supposed to break the record, which I think is about eighty two or so. So spring has definitely gotten here.
00:33:35
Speaker 1: All right, all right, all right, you know what else has definitely gotten here. All of the plans are in place in order and everything for the HBCU All Star Indie Experience. The schedule of events is online will tell you about it, but we're going to go through a few of the activities and events right here on Community Connection. James and Eric and we have with us today. Let's see who we have. We have Lori Hargrove from the Sankopha School of Success. Mss Hargrove. Welcome, How are you.
00:34:11
Speaker 3: Hi?
00:34:11
Speaker 4: I just called.
00:34:12
Speaker 10: I actually got dispicted.
00:34:14
Speaker 5: I have.
00:34:17
Speaker 10: The interview for the HC.
00:34:18
Speaker 1: Yes, yes, what's your name, ma'am? I'm sorry? Are you are Hargrove? I was just introducing you. You're with you're you're Are you a teacher and an administration? What what do you do with the Sankofa School of Success?
00:34:32
Speaker 10: Yes, I'm our principal.
00:34:33
Speaker 1: There a principal. Okay, you're the principal. Well then, James, we got the principal on the phone.
00:34:40
Speaker 4: Yeah. What's the name of the school.
00:34:42
Speaker 1: The Sankopha School of Success. I believe it used to be Arlington, is that correct?
00:34:46
Speaker 4: Yes?
00:34:46
Speaker 10: So we're an innovation school within the IPS family and network of schools, and so we operate our.
00:34:53
Speaker 1: Elementary Okay, okay, well, welcome to the show. I'm glad you're here and you were here to talk about the College Fair. Is that correct?
00:35:04
Speaker 10: So the portion that our school is connected with, we are going to be partnering with the HBCU All Star teams for the Family Funday on Friday.
00:35:14
Speaker 1: Oh the Family funday? Okay, okay, Well let's talk about that. What's going on with that? Because I see that on the list here too, Family Funday?
00:35:22
Speaker 10: Go ahead, absolutely, So we are really excited just to partner with the HTCU All Star team to truly put on a dynamic event for the arts community.
00:35:32
Speaker 9: So it's not just.
00:35:32
Speaker 10: An event, it's really about the experience and exposing our scholars and our families to just lack excellence, a culture, legacy, all of the things that HUCUS.
00:35:42
Speaker 7: Represent and embody.
00:35:44
Speaker 10: So this is just to create a joyful space for our community, just to connecting to celebrate.
00:35:49
Speaker 1: Alright, and we have joining you Tayshiva, Maximus, Maxie. Hi, how are you?
00:35:54
Speaker 7: Oh great? How are you guys?
00:35:56
Speaker 1: I'm good, I'm good. Welcome to the show. So what part of the experience are you representing and bringing to us today?
00:36:02
Speaker 6: Oh? Yes, so I will be representing the College Fair that you see you All Star College Fair. We're super excited we have We've partnered with the local organization there, the Indiana Black Alumni Council, and they've been very supportive and helping us pull all alumnis from all over. We have representation from Film and College Family, Tennessee University.
00:36:25
Speaker 4: Jackson State, Prairie View, A and M.
00:36:27
Speaker 6: Miles College, Alabama A and M. And of course I have to shout out my alum all any State University and amongst others, Yes, and the men. There's so many others. So and then we even have students that are currently college students are going to be coming out talking with our parents, talking with our students about their current experience we have and the shout out to all of the alumni that will be there to support as well as we engage with our students to allow them to ask questions and just to talk to them about opportunity, scholarship opportunities in different ways to navigate their college journey.
00:36:59
Speaker 1: So what do you you and Ms Hargrowth, what do you and either one of you can answer first, it matters what do you all think of this? I mean, this is the first time it's ever come to our city and you're involved in a big part of it. What what are you thinking? What's share your thoughts some of your thoughts with us so far?
00:37:15
Speaker 6: Well, I mean, well, I'm perceived, so I'm super excited about I've done this journey with HBCU also for the last three years, and you know, we've been in locations like Phoenix, San Antonio, and then you know, just looking at you know, some of the demographics and some of the HBCUs that are well, they're they're not really representing Anyana so ber excited about bringing that opportunity, you know, just to expose and get to the access and opportunity. So, you know, I certainly look forward to that, and I think it really speaks to the work and the mission the Hbcure All Stars does. In addition to you know, what would they do with the athletics and different things in the community as well.
00:37:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, we were just talking about that right before you all came on, about access and opportunity, that this is about a tremendous you know, tremendous area, I guess, a tremendous lane for access and opportunity for those who might normally not get it.
00:38:10
Speaker 4: Absolutely.
00:38:12
Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, So MS Hargrove, What are your thoughts?
00:38:15
Speaker 9: Yeah, I would just to build a Probram. I think it's really just.
00:38:19
Speaker 10: Planting the scene, especially knowing that the Family Funding will be hosted out of elementary school and that shuts it about. It's about exposurement to what's possible, about what is to come in their life.
00:38:29
Speaker 4: And where their trajectory to really laying.
00:38:31
Speaker 10: And so we're just excited to be a part of that excellently to promote that to our students.
00:38:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, the Family Funday was another point that we were making earlier James and Eric, about not only access and opportunity, but community engagement that perhaps a lot a lot of our community doesn't always get a chance to engage in some of these big sporting events that can contend to be corporate. I mean, you know, they're big and they're important and a lot of people do become a part of it. But to see this on this level of this magnitude is just absolutely heartwarming. It's just it's exciting to see absolutely.
00:39:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, Miss Targo, what's gonna what are what's going to be the main events on that HBCU All Stars Friday Fun Day, Community outreach and engagement initiative.
00:39:23
Speaker 5: Uh.
00:39:23
Speaker 4: I think it's going to be Friday, April third, from four pm to six pm at looks like it's going to be at your school, right, absolutely, yes, what's going to be the main events there?
00:39:38
Speaker 10: I would say the main event that we're most excited our workings is having the band there from Trinnessee State? Are they so they should be playing for our folars and so just for our community to be exposed to just the rich culture that comes with me in a part of HDCU vagacy, So we're fited for that. There will be turns of of a way. I'll be assion mentioned the partner with IU Health and so they'll be on campus just promoting different things and activities, face painting for the kids.
00:40:13
Speaker 4: I believe there.
00:40:14
Speaker 10: Could be a potential Easter acen so just lots of family fun activities and resources. So I think it will be a well rapid experience for the community and free.
00:40:24
Speaker 1: Is it correct to say.
00:40:25
Speaker 10: That it's absolutely free? We want everyone to come out.
00:40:31
Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, that's a part of the community engagement that excited me because sometimes costs can be a little you know, it can be a barrier for some folks being able to engage and and enjoy some of the festivities. But these are free, which you know.
00:40:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I had a question for the representatives, uh the HBCU All Stars College Admissions and Scholarship Fair. How many how many students? And I'm sorry I didn't write your name down and I really apologize.
00:41:06
Speaker 8: MAXI, yeah, Chieva MAXI, yes, Okay, what's what sort of students are you hoping to draw to the quartee the Colisseum And that's nine a m.
00:41:23
Speaker 4: To one pm, so b early in the morning to one pm. What kind of students are you hoping to bring in to get the exposure of these academic institutions.
00:41:33
Speaker 6: Absolutely, well, it's open to all high school students. Of course, our priority always those cities of seniors that are getting ready to transition and make that big step in their life into college. But we're we're focusing, you know, our main focus on any high school students and then just gaging by our registration. Parents are signing up as well, so they're you know, there were certainly excited about, you know, then participating in any event, but our goal is definitely those high school students making sure you know, they come in and taking advantage of getting on site acceptances, being able to ask about scholarships, and then even even student athletes right at the end of the college here, they'll be able to actually watch the the the NBA Pro Day combine that will be happening right towards the end of the of the of the college fare, and then also will there at the meet and greet some of the HBCU All Star athletes. So absolutely, it's super excited about the overall experience for our high school students.
00:42:29
Speaker 1: So ms Max and you have a lot of history with this event. I think it's been what five years in existence and you've been with it three is that correct?
00:42:37
Speaker 4: Yeah?
00:42:37
Speaker 1: Okay, So so what what can you tell us about its impact after the fact? What what what typically happens when the experience comes into final four weekend and then you know, the ending. What what have some of the what's some of the reaction results been?
00:42:53
Speaker 9: Oh?
00:42:53
Speaker 6: Absolutely, you know, we we definitely you know, we stay in contact with the students and even sometimes parents and with some of the sessions that we have with regarding finding scholarship. But we definitely have seen like over the years, the acceptances increased overall with students that are actually enrolling the HBCUs as well as the scholarship funding. We're seeing students that are really taking advantage of those scholarship opportunities. Like most traditional fairs, sometimes you can have up to seventy five to one hundred reps. But one of the I think one of the you know, the things about our fair is it's intimate. You know, we're about twenty five two times up to thirty reps, but the students can actually really get in there, have a conversation, engage with alumni, engage with the reps, and walk away on site with scholarships and acceptances. So, you know, just super excited about that part. But I have seen over the years, you know, with this, with this, with HBC, you all stars, I've seen the numbers grow absolutely.
00:43:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, principal heart growth. What is it that you're hoping the takeaway is going to be after the event your school?
00:44:02
Speaker 10: I'm hoping the takeaway is just to continue the four relationships with our community as a whole, so that we can continue to be that open door in a resource for students for our families. I would be remiss if I didn't say I hope that this could be also a way for us to just continue to market and recruit families to enroll, and then ultimately just going back to plentying those seeds of hope and exposure of excellence for our scholars so that they can see, Okay, this might be something that they want to engage in their future.
00:44:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sorry, no, no, no, no, no no. I mean we both have lots of questions. But Ms Maxie on the a s SU all starts college admissions and you're going to have scholarships. That is a whole great in Chilado. I'll tell you scholarships being great whatever. It's a great thing to have scholarships right there. But admissions and scholarship fair on Friday, nine am the one Cortiva I Colliseum. Now listen, what if I'm a student, you know, and I'm coming out of short Ridge ORF, I'm coming out of Warren, I'm coming out of Pike, and I want to go to college, but I don't know if I want to go to IU. I don't know if I want to go, you know, up to Northwestern, or I don't know if I want to go you know, up to South south Man to go to Notre Dame, or I just don't know, but I I know I want to get some some higher education, but I'm not sure I've heard that. You know, I've had uncles and stuff that might have gone to Tennessee State or Southern or Howard or Kentucky State. But throughing Cookman might be a better fit for some students. And why, oh, absolutely.
00:45:49
Speaker 6: And I always tell students, you know, my eight to five, I'm I'm a school counselor. So one of the things I do, I tell students it's always about finding the best fit for you. You know, you can you can go get education anywhere, but it's about finding that college fit. Doing your research, you know, talking with other college students, talking when you go to these fairs. Make sure you're very intentional, you're engaging, You're you have specific questions, that you're active pertaining to what you've done in it, and most importantly that you've done your research. But you know, it's it's just, honestly, it's just about finding the best fit. And then you know, like my son, he wanted to get away as far as he possibly could, so but you know, it's just it's parents. You have to let them, always say, parents, you have to let them drive their car because at the end of the day, they're the ones that got to show up the classes. They have to do the work and they have to engage in that overall process. But you know, just quite honestly, it's about finding your allowing the students to you know, encourage them to find that best fit for them, and then the students have to do their research.
00:46:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, best fit you know, money wise, have I got the money to pay for it. They're gonna give me money that's fit athletically or band or what I'm in. You know, they're gonna give me a chance to play, They're gonna give me a chance to learn, you know, whatever it is I'm taking up. They're going to really work with me. That's fit you know, even socially a lot as soon as look at that. I mean, I'm not gonna have a social life. Yeah that's what you mean.
00:47:19
Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, there's social life in college. Well, before we have to, before you have to go to the break, I want both of you to remind our listeners of what you have to offer and invite them to your respective events and ms hartgirls, I'll start with you. Go ahead.
00:47:34
Speaker 10: Thank you so much so HBCU Family Sundays will take place at the Cocal School Success on Friday, April serves from four to sixtem It is free for everyone in the city to come out and celebrate with us, and we are located right across the street from Eastern Star's main campus. So we can't wait to see you all there.
00:47:55
Speaker 1: All right, okay and Ms MAXI.
00:47:59
Speaker 6: Yes, we definitely looking forward to, you know, seeing everyone at the HBCU all Start Colleges and Mission Scholarship Fair on Friday, and then those reps will be there as well on Sunday right before the game starts from twelve to two. So if you miss us on Friday from nine to one at Court Table collegem you can you can check out to meet some of those same alumni and college reps on Saturday, and then you can you know, and enjoy some of those other activities and then enjoy the game as well. But we certainly, you know, make sure you come ready, prepare with parents and students with your questions, and we already if you've already registered, you know, definitely make sure you check out the agenda. You'll see which colleges that will be participating. Make sure you do your research, come in ready to take advantage of all those opportunities. And we're still it's not too late to register. I know a lot of schools are on spring break, but if you're not traveling, come in and hang out with us for a fun time.
00:48:51
Speaker 1: You know, before before we let you go, though, Miss Maxie. Uh, mister Williams. Travis Williams has been in studio with us a couple of times advancing the event, and he shared with us each time that this experience has gone to a respective city, there has been no problem attracting people. Uh, there's been no problem with the enthusiasm. It's it's a hit everywhere it goes. That's been your experience, I'm sure because you've been right there with him. But what do you think that speaks to? What does that say?
00:49:25
Speaker 6: I mean, it speaks to the work. Charl is extremely passionate and he really he you know, he always being God driven work is God driven work. And then he likes to pull in his team. You know, they believe in the vision, they believe in the dream. And then once we see those families and students come in and you know, just most recently, one of the athletes that that's that was part of the HBCU All Star Basketball team, went off went on a transition to you know, be a pro pro athlete in the NBA. You know, that's what it's all about, whether it's you know, getting exception to that college or transition into that next big opportunity. So but I believe in his vision and I believe in the work that he's doing.
00:50:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, we say, James, we've seen this. We saw the dynamic that was created with Circle City Classic. Uh, that's that's been in our you know, in our city for for decades now. And the enthusiasm that this area has for the HBCU experience just in general, because there are none there are none here and some of the some of the areas where the Final Four or cities where the Final Four is taking place, I'm sure they're you know, I guess it's mixed, but it's it's always amazing to me, and it's heartwarming to see the appreciation that the Black community wherever you go with this experience, the appreciation, uh, that they show for the experience that you bring to them.
00:50:47
Speaker 6: Oh Al, I totally agree that the Greek community, you know, you know that even with the band and all that is just it definitely culminates for an amazing experience. It really speaks to the overall HBCU experience. And you know, I went to HBC as well. So just to be in that environment and clowning again is refreshing, is rejuvenating, and I love for students to experience that.
00:51:09
Speaker 1: So what are you expecting here? What do you think?
00:51:13
Speaker 4: Oh, it's going to be a sellout.
00:51:16
Speaker 1: Okay, that's where we're ready.
00:51:18
Speaker 6: We're getting ready.
00:51:19
Speaker 1: That's what we want to hear. That's what we want Indianapolis. A let's be good hosts. Okay, let's be good and show our hospitality and turn out because it's a there's so much there, I mean, the the agenda. I don't know how you all are going to get to everything. I mean, it's a schedule of events. It's exciting to see a lot of coffee, A lot of coffee, A lot of coffee. I've heard that too. I've heard that too, Eric, did you have any questions or anything before?
00:51:42
Speaker 3: We have to look to you guys have Askedtball. I'm just going to be exciting. It's going to be something to check out for sure.
00:51:47
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And of course, the actual game itself.
00:51:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, the game itself.
00:51:51
Speaker 1: That's something that's Sunday, Easter Sunday, right.
00:51:55
Speaker 2: That's the Crown Jewel.
00:51:56
Speaker 1: Crown Jewel, Yeah, that Easter Sunday after church, And if you've had your mail and you're straight hunt, come on out to.
00:52:01
Speaker 2: The gates check out the game.
00:52:03
Speaker 1: And you know, the other thing I like about this is that it's it's all there at the fairground. Yeah, right there, right there, and the fairgrounds. If I don't know, if you all, I'm sure you know, miss Hargrove, but it's it's not a city bus line. And so if you don't, you know, if you don't want to fool with parking or whatever, you can catch the bus. It takes you straight to the gates right, you know, right there, And so that is very that was really smart whoever thought of that, because you don't have to fight the downtown traffic, you don't have to pay the downtown Indianapolis parking fees. I mean, I just thought that was a really really smart move to take everything that way and focus many of not all of it, but many of the events, the majority of the events out there at the fairgrounds. Because again that that makes it even more inclusive, if you know, if you think about it makes it a lot more inclusive. Yeah, yeah, indeed, all righty, well think what's the website? Okay, we forgot the website? What's what's the website?
00:52:57
Speaker 6: AHCU all Star Game dot com, HU all Stars Game dot Com.
00:53:03
Speaker 1: And registration for your event and others is still available.
00:53:08
Speaker 6: Yes, it's still available and you can access that from that same website.
00:53:12
Speaker 1: All righty, thank you very much. I appreciate good luck.
00:53:15
Speaker 6: All right, thank you guys so much for having.
00:53:17
Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, miss Argo, thank you all right, indeed, thank you both for being here, and we all be back. We're going to be talking more HBCU All Star Game and Experience right after this.
00:53:40
Speaker 12: W TLC A m W two three six c AR Indianapolis broadcasting from the Praise Indie Indiego Studios, Indiego Boldly moving Indy Forward. It's Community Connection with Tina Cosby, brought to you by Child's Advocates, a champion for justice, opportunity and well being for children. On Praise are ten ninety five one.
00:54:02
Speaker 1: FM, and we're back with Community Connection, heading into our second hour, just getting things ready for our next interview, and while we're preparing for that, James just wanted to slip this in. This came like two minutes ago. You probably have it as well. But I think it's significant, James and Eric. I think is extremely significant because a jury found both Meta formerly Facebook, and YouTube liable in a first of its kind lawsuit that aimed to hold social media platforms responsible for harm to children using their services. They awarded the plaint of three million dollars in damages. After more than forty hours of deliberation across nine days, California jurors decided that Meta former Facebook, and YouTube were negligent in the design or operation of their platforms. The jury also decided each company's negligence was a substantial factor in causing harm to the plaintiff, a twenty year old woman who says her use was social media as technology exacerbated her mental health struggles and created an addiction. Wow, they have been in court fighting arguing about I would dare say, totally misrepresenting. I don't want to call them liars, but totally misrepresenting and and side stepping and tiptoeing around, uh what they do deliberately and on purpose. Really they have.
00:55:27
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:55:27
Speaker 2: Good to see that result too, I think, so.
00:55:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's huge. I did see it on my screen and it's really huge. Uh, you're right, Meta formally Facebook. It's owned by Mark Zuckerberg. Okay, yes, one of the almost trillionaierrs. I mean, one of the billionaires who run with our president. And you know, I mean this is good because it shows that that that social media is having an impact on our children to uh, well she's twenty years old, but I mean it impacted her when she was was a minor. Yeah, uh she got it. You know, she got the verdict when she was an adult. But it shows the impact. And you guys, Eric and and Tina know more than me about uh, how our children use social media, although I know a lot about it, but there some of them are constantly on it and it and then it's creating. Who was that that was saying the other day that you know, we're really we're really blessed so far this year, we shouldn't have any of them on homicide. I mean, we're at a point where if we stay at this rate, more forbid any person being murdered. But if we stay at this rate, it's gonna below one hundred if we can keep it going, you know. So, Uh, there's been times and people out there know about this where uh, somebody will say something about somebody else on Facebook and it'll lead to a gunfight.
00:56:56
Speaker 1: Absolutely.
00:56:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean this is this.
00:56:58
Speaker 1: Kind of stuffed on the regular though, James. Violence and disturbances and uprisings that don't necessarily hear about or read about on you know, that don't make it to media. You know, I've talked to a lot of police officers who say seventy five to eighty percent of that, especially involving you know, people under the age of twenty five or maybe around that age group. Anyway, seventy five to eighty percent of social media. Yeah, is social media fueled and it's out of control. It's out of control the country.
00:57:29
Speaker 3: There's is it Australia that's restricting I think internet usage for I think I heard that certain age group it maybe sixteen and under something like that they're restricted to use it.
00:57:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There was a bill that passed the Indiana legislature. Now, I do not think it goes into effect right away. I think it's a couple of years maybe twenty seven that it goes into effect. But it remember we were talking about this, Tina, schools are going to have to figure out what to do with that cell phone through the day.
00:58:02
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, discussion.
00:58:04
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, So, I mean there's an attempt to kind of tempt us down because it's out of hand. I mean, people don't even take time to think anymore. They just get up and turn on that computer, that handheld computer, and that control our lives. It's really, you.
00:58:21
Speaker 9: Know, it's it's.
00:58:22
Speaker 4: Become an icon. It's it's it's an idol in a lot of ways.
00:58:27
Speaker 1: I mean, you reckoned with in these algorithms that they programmed. Again, especially for profit. It's it's just sad profit for profit, for profiteering. So uh but anyway, uh, kudos to the lady that took them to court and sued them in won and hopefully she'll, uh she'll get treatment for her addiction and uh mental health problems with with some of that money that she's going to get, although they'll probably appeal it and keep it tied up in court for who knows how long. At least at least they've spoken. Yeah, indeed, Well back to the HBC, you all stars Indie Experience. We are going to be talking now about the HBCU All Stars Black Business Vendor Showcase, and who better to tell us about that than Larry Williams, president of the Indie Black Chamber of Commerce, and Anita Williams, a member of the Indie Black Chamber of Commerce as well. Welcome, Welcome, How are you doing? How are both of you doing.
00:59:29
Speaker 4: Well?
00:59:29
Speaker 7: Thank you Tina and we're doing well today?
00:59:32
Speaker 1: Yeah? Well, thank you Larry, are you there?
00:59:35
Speaker 4: I am here? Thank you for having you are there?
00:59:38
Speaker 1: So tell us how you all how how did all this come about in terms of you all being a part of the vendor, the Black Business Vendor Showcase.
00:59:51
Speaker 11: Sure, so every year they have a Black Vendor showcase when they have the game, and so when they came here to Indianapolis, they asked the Black Chamber to spearhead this venture.
01:00:07
Speaker 4: So that's our job is.
01:00:09
Speaker 11: To get people to come and be vendors during the game.
01:00:14
Speaker 1: So what are you going to be doing or what are they going to be doing?
01:00:19
Speaker 11: Yeah, so we have a sectioned off where we have vendor space for people to then and so we'll start to showcase around noon before the game. And so you know, people can come before the game and see these black business owners and then during the game we'll still be there and after the game we'll be there. So that's what we're out there do to promote black businesses here in Indiana.
01:00:50
Speaker 1: So a huge networking event for black businesses. Correct, correct, Yeah, yeah, James, go ahead.
01:01:01
Speaker 4: Give me specifics, like what what is this showcase going to and tail? I mean, will it be all at one time for a couple three hours or more or is it going to involve networking where you're taking down names and addresses and you'll and you will get together later. What's the goal here, mister and missus Williams.
01:01:27
Speaker 9: Well, they they will have and what each vendor will have is a table and two chairs and so they'll be able to design their space and vend at their space just like any other vendor fare and you're able to network with the people who are attending the game. So we've got a section off space as Larry had said, So we're hoping people come down and support these vendors in our city because this is very important too as they as we watched the game, and also support our small businesses.
01:02:05
Speaker 1: Was the Indie Black Chamber of commerce intentional as to who are what vendors were invited to attend the event, and what we were Okay, go ahead.
01:02:15
Speaker 7: Go ahead, go ahead, Teina, finish your question. I'm glad.
01:02:19
Speaker 1: Go ahead, and I'll ask the second part. Go ahead.
01:02:23
Speaker 9: We were open or HBCU was open to anyone who wanted to bend. Now, some of the food vendors were not able to bend because.
01:02:32
Speaker 7: We're on the fair grounds.
01:02:34
Speaker 9: Because we're at the fair grounds and they have some restrictions because of their concessions and competition.
01:02:42
Speaker 7: But we were still able to get some of the.
01:02:45
Speaker 1: Food vendors in.
01:02:47
Speaker 9: But we're still open to anyone that wants.
01:02:51
Speaker 8: To be in.
01:02:52
Speaker 9: So there was no limit other than food was the only place that you know, we.
01:02:58
Speaker 1: Had to walk on eggshells.
01:02:59
Speaker 9: But other than that, we're open to anybody that would like to come in and ben.
01:03:04
Speaker 1: So you weren't necessarily customizing your invitation list to the HBCU experienced specifically, not.
01:03:14
Speaker 7: Necessarily, and we were we were just opening.
01:03:17
Speaker 9: If anyone is interested, they could give us a call at eight three three four three nine four two two two. Anybody else that's still interested in venting. We have another few days to get the funding in and secure spot.
01:03:35
Speaker 1: How many do you have so far?
01:03:39
Speaker 5: So we have over.
01:03:43
Speaker 11: We have over one hundred and fifty people signed up and so now we're just sending out the payment LinkedIn so that that's what we're working on right now.
01:03:55
Speaker 4: What are you How long?
01:03:56
Speaker 1: Go ahead, James? Go ahead?
01:03:57
Speaker 4: How long will it be allowed to offer their products or indoor services to the people who come to the fairgrounds there? Yeah, so it is from milon to five.
01:04:14
Speaker 11: Is really during the basketball game, so it's it's noon, so it's before the game, is during the game, and it's after the game, so it's from noon to five. And we'll also have a DJ in there will activate the space and you know, have people there and do some great networking.
01:04:36
Speaker 4: Hey, so, Mitch Williams, what are you doing to promote this besides being on community connection with? Tina calls me? What are you doing to promote it? Yep?
01:04:46
Speaker 11: So, I mean like everybody else, you know, social media, we promote the radio. Uh, you know, sitting here with Tina, everybody that we have a committee that that does the marketing for HB see you as a whole, so you know we're part of that group.
01:05:05
Speaker 1: What is it you're hoping to achieve.
01:05:07
Speaker 7: It's been in the recorder.
01:05:08
Speaker 9: Okay, the recorder is advertising it as well.
01:05:12
Speaker 1: Okay, So any particular goal in mind, like a number of vendors or a number of you know what, what are you hoping to achieve by participating? And was it a difficult Was it difficult to decide to participate in this event?
01:05:29
Speaker 4: It wasn't a difficult eye to participate, m.
01:05:34
Speaker 7: So we were excited to be a part of it.
01:05:37
Speaker 1: So how so how does this event address the mission of the Indie Black Chamber of Commerce.
01:05:45
Speaker 9: So our mission is.
01:05:46
Speaker 7: To support small businesses.
01:05:49
Speaker 9: Minority of businesses, Black businesses especially. We're here to support and grow and just advertise all of our businesses so we know.
01:06:00
Speaker 7: Who we want to support and this helps us.
01:06:05
Speaker 9: This business fair helps us showcase our vendors as we've always done even in our training, all the things we do with the as the Black Chamber and any other any chamber of commerce is there for like minded people to come together for economic development and economic exchange. So this lines up with everything that we've already done.
01:06:27
Speaker 1: The fact that the fair. I'm sorry, go ahead, James, Well just.
01:06:31
Speaker 4: This quick question, Antina, you can go ahead because you asked about the mission and it's along those lines. So what miss Williams, especially you, what would help the Indie Black Chamber most to grow. You know, if you're you're vendor, you're already signed up. You know, you're one of the one hundred and fifty people who have contacted you. According to mister Williams, You've already signed up and you're getting geared up and ready to go for this event during the All Star Game, the HU All Star Game. What how can this event and others? How can this help in growing the Indie Black Chamber of Commerce and how what do you need if this, you know, besides this to grow, I guess is my question?
01:07:19
Speaker 9: Well, we have grown substantially in the past ten years.
01:07:24
Speaker 7: We've been around for ten years.
01:07:26
Speaker 9: We have four hundred plus members, we have classes that we've graduated over two hundred participants.
01:07:35
Speaker 7: We love this event to get our name out there, but we love it more to show off.
01:07:42
Speaker 9: Who the business owners are here in Indianapolis. We're excited about what we're able to do, but what we're able to do is showcase others, and that is always our goal is to showcase and show how great.
01:07:57
Speaker 7: Our businesses are here in Indianapolis.
01:08:00
Speaker 1: So approximately how many black businesses would you and mister Williams estimate there are in the city of Indianapolis and Marion County.
01:08:10
Speaker 11: So the last last week check, we we have roughly about three thousands in Marion County as people have signed up with the Secretary of State.
01:08:22
Speaker 1: Uh, three thousand businesses.
01:08:28
Speaker 11: Yes, you also have to put in the people who do the hustles and you know, everything put together. You know that they may not be you know, on record, but I mean there are a lot of hustling like T shirts and candles that people do that have hobbies, but there's still a business selling products.
01:08:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, what what? What? What can? Because this is a good liven question because people want to know how you grow this Indie Black Tamber of Commerce. What could if I'm an Elatra philanthropist, like let's say the Lillian Dowlment or some other large fund out there, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, what do they need to do or could they do if they so wanted to help you to help move your mission.
01:09:27
Speaker 9: Well, we're always looking for funding. Of course, we are five and one C three Okay, that's what we would.
01:09:36
Speaker 7: We're five and one C three, so.
01:09:39
Speaker 9: We would want to align with whatever they're doing as well. Because there are a lot of organizations that focus on business development, there are some that workforce development, and so we've also done a lot of work with caterers. We have ad space down at the City Market when it was open, of course, and we had five spaces four caterers people who had been catering, to let them see.
01:10:09
Speaker 7: What it was like to actually own a small restaurant.
01:10:12
Speaker 9: So there are so many different areas of workforce development that we like to introduce people to to make sure this is really what you want to do and help them to grow. We have a loan pool for those that need just a little extra funding so they can grow their business.
01:10:29
Speaker 4: So we have our.
01:10:31
Speaker 9: Loan pool, We have our kitchen incubator that we're going to start again. So there are so many areas that we want to.
01:10:38
Speaker 7: See our businesses grow. Right now, we do.
01:10:40
Speaker 9: Have a lot of people who are hustling side hustling hobbies. We need businesses to grow into large corporations and so that's what we're in the background pushing for. What else do we need to make you a large corporation, a second generation business. Those are the types of things that we need to push for, that we need funding for to help grow our businesses.
01:11:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, what a fantastic opportunity for you know, for the public and and future business owners or current business owners. And what great exposure for the chamber. You know, that's that's superb exposure for the chamber. So if someone wants to you say, registrations are still open for the event, which is going to be on game day out there at the fairgrounds, right correct, Okay, if someone still give us a call, Okay, go ahead, and.
01:11:33
Speaker 9: They can give us a call it eight three three four three nine two okay, huns, they can give us a call and tell us that they're still interested in registering and we will talk them through that whole process and get them registered. Friday is going to be our last day. We're going to close it down on Friday. Whoever's signed up and paid by Friday, that's going to be at all.
01:12:00
Speaker 1: Right, Well, congratulations, I'm proud of the Indie Black Chamber of Commerce. I am, because that's a that's a really smart addition to this whole lineup of activities and events, A brilliant addition, and uh you mister mus Williams. And that's you know, sounds like you got it going on. You got one hundred and fifty vendors. I had no idea, James, did you that there were roughly three thousand registered black businesses. That's not counting the you know, the bootleg cabs and the mom and pop up you know, that's not counting any of those that we see that's registered right with Secretary State's Office.
01:12:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know, you know black black people are you know, I mean they're they're not monolithic. I mean, I mean in historically they are in the largest aspects, they are entrepreneurs. I mean, in a lot of ways, creative. It's just great what they're doing. Yes, ma'am.
01:12:53
Speaker 1: Absolutely well, congratulations and I hope it goes well. Uh your Facebook page or website or anything for folks to go to just in general.
01:13:03
Speaker 11: Yeah, our website is in THEBCC dot com and uh, Tina, I do want to also mention that we're having a tip off party Saturday at Lafloca seven pm to midnight. Toy Factory will be there and that's our tip off for the HBC Saturday night for.
01:13:24
Speaker 4: The All Star Game.
01:13:25
Speaker 1: Now, where is Laflanca. That's new Tom, I'm not or maybe I know about it. Yeah, where is it?
01:13:31
Speaker 11: It's our thirty eighth in Lifyear Road. Is the old shoe carnival over there?
01:13:36
Speaker 5: They turned it?
01:13:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, next to the old best Buy or was it a.
01:13:40
Speaker 2: Home Isn't that the International village area?
01:13:42
Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, that's the international market, international market Yeah yeah, yeah, oh yeah, next to the shoe carnivals. Not out there anymore now that now that was close to it is that close to a Walmart? Well okay, but there there used to be to the other side of it there, I know exactly where you're talking about. There wasn't there. There was either it was either a best Buy or Home Goods or at Home there. Yeah, best I think best Buy was there too, Yeah, because they moved best Buy up to uh Carmel, the one from there at thirty eighth and and Lafayette moved up to ninety something in Michigan. Yeah, that's the one. I think that's an expos But anyway, it is right.
01:14:30
Speaker 11: Behind Chase on Latia Road.
01:14:33
Speaker 4: Is right behind that chair.
01:14:34
Speaker 1: Oh, right behind that Chase. Well, that's that's a little north of where I'm thinking, no, a little south of where I'm thinking. Anyway, there it is what's the address? What's the address? And that's from seven until midnight.
01:14:53
Speaker 11: From seven until midnight?
01:14:54
Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, so that sounds like fun as well. Boy, this is this weekend, this this upcoming weekend, not not this week because I had I think I had. I thought Holy Week was mentioned, but Holy week is next week next Yeah. I got to hit on myself. But yeah, so congreg again, congratulations James. Any questions before you have to let them go?
01:15:15
Speaker 4: Uh? Absolutely not. I mean I think there's just put this quick statement that this is great. It's kind of like summer celebration a few months early. Yeah, you know you're getting all these people. What'd you say, Eric, I.
01:15:31
Speaker 2: Was thinking that, James, go ahead, I was thinking that same thing.
01:15:33
Speaker 4: I mean, you're just getting all these these businesses involved, and that's what it takes to grow. So kudos to the Williams Is for, you know, in the Ndie Black Chamber, for for you know, organizing.
01:15:46
Speaker 1: This and one more time to hit them with the website one more time.
01:15:52
Speaker 11: Okay, it's in the Indy I n d y BCC dot com.
01:15:58
Speaker 1: Alrighty, thank you both so much for all you do. Enjoy this upcoming weekend, not this weekend, the upcoming enjoyed the big weekend. Okay, Final four weekend and uh HBCU All Star event and Experience weekend, Uh game events and experience. Enjoy all of that. Thank you for what you're doing. We really appreciate you.
01:16:20
Speaker 7: Thank you all right, thank bye, bye.
01:16:22
Speaker 1: Bye, and so yeah, James, everybody is stepping up and representing you.
01:16:28
Speaker 4: Know they are. Indeed, if they can see.
01:16:31
Speaker 1: This rundown, I don't know if you're looking at it or not. I printed it out. Uh, it is unbelievable.
01:16:37
Speaker 10: Wow.
01:16:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean so many aspects to it, so many, you know, the all the All Stars ceremony and reception, the college admissions and scholarship fair, the you know Friday Fun Day community Outreachuh that that our guest was talking about. Uh, the you know, the window windsor Village, our food pantry event we haven't talked about yet.
01:17:02
Speaker 1: No, we haven't. And that's that's extremely important, especially now in today's times. And so thank you HBCU All Stars for putting that together as well. That is certainly going to be appreciated, I'm sure.
01:17:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, and uh what is it team of the HBCU All Stars Social Justice and Civil Rights launching that out to be interesting and panel there on Saturday, April fourth, the Black Business Vendor Showcase we just talked about that. The College. Then on Sunday they're coming back again with the with the College All Stars Admissions and Scholarship Fair where students can come back and talk to people again and hopefully get scholarships if they missed it the first time around, you know, to go to college. I mean, and then you got the All Star Game, the blockbuster event right there from April fifth.
01:17:57
Speaker 1: They've got they they've got three things program for that Sunday, April fifth, the All Star Black Business Vendor Showcase, which we just discussed from noon until five, the All Star College Admission and Scholarship.
01:18:09
Speaker 2: That's that's exactly that's that's gonna be.
01:18:11
Speaker 1: That's going to be a big one from noon until two, and then of course the game from one until four. So yeah, jam packed on the day up the.
01:18:19
Speaker 2: Day of that's going to be a big event. And the Crown Jewel the game.
01:18:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, I believe there's been some renovation to that Quartiva Coliseum. I mean, it's it's not you know the old Oh yeah, yeah, I mean and it's a beautiful facility. Now. So, like you said, right there at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, twelve oh to East thirty eighth Street, Yeah, what a weekend in store for people. So yes, ma'am, it's going to be great.
01:18:47
Speaker 1: I like the I love the not like I love the accessibility of the State Fairgrounds for an event this size. Uh and uh, you know this wide in scope because let's face it, as much as there is parking downtown, you pay for it.
01:19:01
Speaker 2: You pay. You're going to pay for the park a lot.
01:19:04
Speaker 1: And even if they're only charging five dollars, that five dollars wouldn't even get you a down payment on what some of the parking is for these events downtown, like the like the Final four. We can say final four, we can say, yeah, we can say final four, double check on that. We just can't say March. Oh, I can't say that, March March blanket. We just can't say that. No, no, not not a tool, not a tool. But you know, there's another component to all of this that we're getting ready to share with you that I never I never would have thought about it. But it's it's it's popular. It's sweeping the country. I understand, and it's coming here especially for HBCU All Star Game and weekend. The experience and that is gospel karaoke.
01:19:53
Speaker 3: Oh gospat.
01:20:02
Speaker 1: The most I've done has been in a church choir years ago.
01:20:06
Speaker 4: There's a church choir.
01:20:10
Speaker 1: And everybody drowned you out. So all you got to do to stand there and move your mouth.
01:20:15
Speaker 4: It's wonder I am not okay.
01:20:18
Speaker 1: No, no, no, And that was just how old were you when you finally got out there? I mean we did from five years old to about twelve or thirteen, I.
01:20:27
Speaker 2: Think so for me too, the same thing. Somewhere at thirteen, it was like fourteen, I'm.
01:20:31
Speaker 1: Being that choir. Get up there, same choice. Yeah, no, we didn't have a choice at all.
01:20:38
Speaker 4: Get measured for your robe? Why are you doing it?
01:20:40
Speaker 1: Yeah?
01:20:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, we to robe. Yeah, okay, robes.
01:20:46
Speaker 1: Madison, Indiana didn't have no robes down no, but we had you know, coordinated color, coordinated outfits.
01:20:51
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, you wore the choir war.
01:20:55
Speaker 1: Robes, adult adult choir head robes.
01:20:59
Speaker 2: Yeah.
01:21:01
Speaker 1: I love that. That is so cool, so cute. Yeah, James, you had gropes too.
01:21:06
Speaker 4: Well, we did. And then I you know, because I grew up kind of in the Baptist church, and we did, and then some churches we did the color coordination. You know it's black pants and red top, you know whatever.
01:21:19
Speaker 5: It was.
01:21:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was funny because my children have been raised Baptist, but I was. I was raising on a Methodists and we were we were we had dinner. So anyway, we were talking about, uh that it doesn't you know, they're clear differences, Uh, clearly differences. And so but I told him, I said, if you all would have gone to my church when you were younger, when you walked in the door, you got a program, and you went by the order of the program. You sang out of hymns that were on the back of the pews, and then the hymnals and Bibles right in the back of the pews. And you know that doctor Brown calls it Catholic. He said, wellf y'all wasn't Catholic. Y'all were junior Catholics. He talks. But that's.
01:22:06
Speaker 4: I love tho ymns. I mean it's so pure, it's so pure. I love that when they you know, kind of sing everybody together and it's just voices and you don't really need instruments.
01:22:17
Speaker 1: No, you didn't need Well. I love the instruments. I love the I love that in the in the Baptist, I love all of that. But Methodist Church and even the Catholic churches have gotten uh. I visited Saint Rita's once and Holy Angels I've gone to. Both of those are predominantly h African American congregations. But they got it. They got a little bit of h They got choirs.
01:22:40
Speaker 2: Now, so they're more charismatic.
01:22:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think the diocese doesn't mind. I'm sure.
01:22:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, Well that's good. I mean, but still don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Don't throw out the old hymnos because those really hit hit the heart.
01:22:56
Speaker 1: You know, I'm just saying.
01:22:58
Speaker 4: That, but I'm just asking, don't do that, anybody. Don't give up on those a cappello old hymns.
01:23:06
Speaker 1: But here's the thing, James, So many churches now are you know, they have the audio visual and the scriptures are on the screen. You don't necessarily have to look the Bible the words to what the choir is singing, be it a hymn or whatever. On the screen and so many things. So it's it's just kind of high tech, higher tech issue. Now some of the churches still have the little pockets on the back of the with the hymns and what have you. But now you just know what you're going to be singing. You're going to sing Hymn.
01:23:40
Speaker 4: Number one thirty six off the screen.
01:23:42
Speaker 1: You just sing it right off the screen. Yeah. But I you know, even though the scriptures and the lessons for the service are put up there on the screen as well, I still like to look at my book. I don't know, I'm still old school like that. I like to take but it's all good, it's all good. But they looked at me like I was crazy when I told him we had we had a program and it was printed every Saturday night by the deacons and then uh, every Sunday morning, the ushers are standing there when you walked in. You all everybody got a program.
01:24:15
Speaker 4: They did it. They should, didn't they? Eric and the Baptist Church they had the program.
01:24:21
Speaker 1: Okay, every song.
01:24:26
Speaker 4: Those comedians Brother Brown could not get up and pray out of turn because it wasn't on the program.
01:24:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, James, it doesn't seem to you that every Baptist church at that time had a brother Brown and Deacon Brown, I mean.
01:24:42
Speaker 1: Goodness, Brown Brown Jackson.
01:24:48
Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, yeah, well yeah, and then for some that don't make it, Deacon Sheets what you called Deacon Revend Pillow and Deacon Sheet, Oh my Pillow, Yeah right there.
01:25:01
Speaker 1: Watching it online, so know him.
01:25:03
Speaker 2: That's what it is.
01:25:04
Speaker 1: Indeed, all right, Well, we're gonna come back. See, we got on a we got on a church conversation. Did so sounds like we all spent a lot of our youth.
01:25:14
Speaker 2: Absolutely, was there a choice?
01:25:16
Speaker 1: No, not even close. They're not. Anyway, We'll be right back right after this.
01:25:38
Speaker 12: Let's get back to the conversation. It's Community Connection with Tina Cosby, brought to you by Child Advocates, a champion for justice, opportunity and well being for children on Praise Am thirteen ten ninety five point one FM.

Time is rapidly, yeah, it is. Yeah, indeed, indeed, so James and Eric, this this next segment is something I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about because I've never heard of it. I guess it makes sense though, why not? Anyway? It says what began as a unique event concept has quickly grown into a movement. We got a movement here, y'all, bringing together lovers of gospel music, fellowship and elevated live production in an atmosphere that is both inspiring and unforgettable. 01:27:25
Speaker 9: Okay, Well, I am q Raw, I'm co founder along with my.
01:27:28
Speaker 1: Partner parent okayund Gospel thank.
01:27:33
Speaker 9: You of Gospel karaoke entertainment. So what gospel?
01:27:38
Speaker 1: What we call it? GK.
01:27:39
Speaker 9: G K is a face based entertainment experience that brings together, you know, all sorts of life through gospel music. We have different experiences like gospel bingo, karaoke, anything you can think of. But yeah, so we we just brought it all together to coexist and have somewhere outside of church to celebrate gospel.
01:28:00
Speaker 1: Oh wow, So who all are you bringing to the experience here in the city of Indianapolis Saturday night, Saturday the fourth.
01:28:08
Speaker 9: Saturday the fourth, Yes, so April fourth, an Indie global village. We're bringing Rich it's a hip hop gospel artist, rich and famous, and Brisia may So that's two people. And then our last one performing will be Mervyn Mayo.

01:28:29
Speaker 9: Yes, of course you try to, you know, get a little bit of everything.
01:28:33
Speaker 7: Yeah.
01:28:33
Speaker 1: So how does it work? If if someone were planning to attend, what can they expect? How does it work?
01:28:40
Speaker 10: So?
01:28:40
Speaker 9: What gospel karaoke is interactive? So you get your tickets first of all on event, right, and then you come and be a participant, whether you can sing or not, you can participate in making your favorite gospel song and being those three performances are here to perform and you know, keep the experience going. Once you get there, you sign up for your karaoke and of course in the future, if you want to perform with us with other shows, you can you know, hit us up and we can maybe get something on the board for that as well.
01:29:16
Speaker 1: You know what if Eric and James, you all have been to karaoke, Absolutely, it never ceases to amaze me. People, the courage, the courage of people they get up there and get on the mic and cannot oh yeah, because they cannot carry a tune if but they love the experience of singing and you know everything that it brings. And I think that dynamic probably plays out here as well, does it not?
01:29:43
Speaker 9: Most definitely they bring it, They bring it all.
01:29:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, doesn't matter what we sound like, we're having a good time singing. So, James, have you ever done karaoke?
01:29:54
Speaker 6: Uh?
01:29:55
Speaker 4: Not while anybody was looking?
01:29:56
Speaker 1: No, just a car carry o each car shower.
01:30:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that that for sure. But yeah, that's just just you know what intrigues me about this, Miss q Wall is the is the gospel part of it? And so what kind of is We've been asking guests about the mission of what your organization does. Give us the name of your organization again that you that you had.
01:30:24
Speaker 9: Yes, it's gospel karaoke entertainment. So we do different experiences with with the gospel music. Brother if it's bingo or you know, different events.
01:30:34
Speaker 1: Paint and praise and paint.
01:30:36
Speaker 9: It's just you know, just something to bring the community together and engage outside of church.
01:30:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, So it sounds like that's kind of a ministry that you've taken on and what kind of drives you to do this?
01:30:49
Speaker 9: Well, for one, we just wanted an alternative to somewhere to go to it outside of a club or a bar. We wanted to you know, people like myself and others just want to continue to be around other positive areas, safe places just with the same you know, wanting to have the same praise with the them, wanting to be able to experience it and just be out and engagement fellowship.
01:31:13
Speaker 4: So, Diana, I miss it. What day is your event going to be connected with the HBCU All Star Game and events and all these events we've been talking about. So what day is it and where?
01:31:26
Speaker 9: So it starts on Friday, it's a weekend experience.
01:31:28
Speaker 1: So it starts, Okay, Friday, It's Saturday. I'm messing up everywhere.
01:31:33
Speaker 9: Friday Friday is the big community Day, the big Friday Sunday with HBCU All Stars Friday.
01:31:40
Speaker 1: Okay, So it's a joint. It's a joint doing it. Okay, a joint event because we talked about the Family Funday earlier in the show. So okay, we got that.
01:31:48
Speaker 2: That's all off the.
01:31:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, the coliseums all around.
01:31:54
Speaker 4: Yeah. So yeah, that so that I'm sorry, no, I'm jumping in, go ahead, okay.
01:32:01
Speaker 9: Yeah, So that when it's Friday Sunday, wanted to make it, you know, family oriented for all ages and everybody to be able to enjoy Easter egg.
01:32:07
Speaker 7: Hunts and games and bounce.
01:32:09
Speaker 9: Houses and you know, use basketball clinics and giveaways and then leading up to that Saturday, which is concert Day.
01:32:17
Speaker 4: Wow, so you're you look like you're tied it into Holy Weekend with the Easter egg hunt and all that.
01:32:22
Speaker 9: Holy Eastern is the Eastern Perience Weekend.
01:32:27
Speaker 1: So you say people have to register to sign up to do the karaoke? Is that what you were saying?
01:32:33
Speaker 9: Well, no, you once you buy your ticket when you call event you will sign up if you want to participate. There's a you know, you just sign up just just.
01:32:42
Speaker 7: To participate, that's all.
01:32:43
Speaker 1: So can you can you just not necessarily be on the mic and still be out there singing too.
01:32:49
Speaker 9: Yeah, we encourage you to come out and not be on the mic. We have finished a lyrics. It's it's so much interactive going on. So don't necessarily have to be a single Yolanda Adams or nothing like that.
01:33:04
Speaker 7: Or a Mervyn mail.
01:33:04
Speaker 9: You can just be there and in the crowd. It's going to be vendors there, it's going to be a food there. So everybody have a good time in the audience, believe.
01:33:14
Speaker 4: It or not.
01:33:15
Speaker 1: So where where do people get their tickets?
01:33:18
Speaker 9: So they can go on e vent Bright to our gospel Karaoke live event event Bright and purchase their tickets there. We currently have a promo with promo co Easter for a special discount. Actually, and I believe Sunday was going to be at Global Village with on hand tickets as well.
01:33:39
Speaker 1: What's the.
01:33:41
Speaker 4: Isn't that Global Village?
01:33:43
Speaker 11: What village?
01:33:44
Speaker 1: What's the cost of a ticket? And does that cover two day or just the day the event? On Saturday. Well, the first day is free.
01:33:53
Speaker 9: Second day, yes, the second day is a ticket purchase, which I believe. The tickets range about forty dollars.
01:34:01
Speaker 1: Mm hm, that's you have, yeah.
01:34:05
Speaker 9: Forty to fifty I believe. Because there is a table reservations if you want to do a table reservation and that's that.
01:34:13
Speaker 4: That is what what is that? What is that cover you?
01:34:17
Speaker 1: And I ask me the same thing.
01:34:18
Speaker 9: Yeah, the forty bus cover your experience to come in your mission. The concert is for Saturday. The forty dollars for Saturday.
01:34:29
Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I don't want.
01:34:30
Speaker 9: To confuse that. Yeah, Friday, Yeah, Friday is free.
01:34:38
Speaker 1: So yeah, so Saturday. The forty dollars is just basically the admission, right, I mean there's is there is there like food or anything like that or is it just basically the cost of admission?
01:34:51
Speaker 9: There is food vendors there, but that is separate forty dollars the cost of emission and your experience that you're going to have and of course come then and supporting the some of the locals that's gonna you know that may be there, and then of course the rich and famous Breonna Shane and Urver Mayo experience Okay, okay, have.
01:35:11
Speaker 4: You have you had anybody sign up yet, Miss q Raw.
01:35:16
Speaker 9: Of course, we've had people sign up. We've had people sign up, and it's like we're like, you have to wait to sign up to do the God with carry off until you get there, because there's a QR code that puts.
01:35:25
Speaker 1: You in a line with que to come up.
01:35:27
Speaker 9: Mm hmm. So it's the same, it's the same. It's the same kind of carry off your experience as you sign up and when you're you know, typing in your name and put your name in a queue and you pick a song that you want to do along with the along with the DJ and the band that's going to be there as well.
01:35:44
Speaker 1: I want to hear a little bit more about this movement that has been created as a result. Can you tell us more about that? What's the movement?
01:35:52
Speaker 2: So?
01:35:52
Speaker 9: Yeah, the movement is to you know, get our dinner our target audience of the youth and you know and older, to be able to have somewhere safe, to be able to experience fun.
01:36:06
Speaker 1: With faith.
01:36:09
Speaker 9: And to just go around. So we have been it's exploded so fast. It haven't even been a year yet, So this has exploded very fast. And we've been planning accordingly as we go. So we've been requested from city to city, state to state, but we've been to focus on Indianapolis for for a while now, so we kind of want.
01:36:30
Speaker 1: To perfect it here first. Okay, it's a movement, y'all. And it's a movement definitely. I love to hear that. Love to hear that. So what is what is your website? If people want to know more and find out more, they can go to event right to get tickets. Okay, go ahead.
01:36:49
Speaker 9: Currently they can go on event right to get tickets. They can go on social media, which you can witness some of the images in previous shows on God's patio Key Live, Facebook and Instagram and TikTok.
01:37:03
Speaker 1: Okay, well, congratulations and love being a part of the movement here in the city of Indianapolis. So event Right for the tickets, and then for the website, you can go to the Facebook page.
01:37:15
Speaker 9: You can go to a Facebook page, yes, or our Instagram page.
01:37:20
Speaker 4: What's going to be happening? Did you say this weekend the.
01:37:24
Speaker 1: Weekend of the fourth weekend of the weekend, Easter weekend, it's the weekend of you know, the final four.
01:37:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, what's going to happen at the Global Village Welcome Center.
01:37:36
Speaker 1: That's where the oh so if.
01:37:38
Speaker 9: You that's where the performance is at. But if you want to get your ticket, you know, some people don't try to get away from online experiences. So you can get your ticket in person Sunday.
01:37:52
Speaker 4: That's what I meant. See, Oh, I didn't know something Lafayette Road, right.
01:38:00
Speaker 1: You didn't catch them, so you can buy Okay, you're right, I did not, So you can buy. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So you can buy your tickets in person this weekend.
01:38:12
Speaker 9: You can for that day specifically, Yes, if you want to avoid having a you know, some people have issues of going online.
01:38:19
Speaker 1: Okay, well, all right then, so James, you were absolutely correct Global Village.
01:38:24
Speaker 4: Okay, sometimes I am, sometimes I am.
01:38:27
Speaker 1: That's all right, all right, Well this sounds like, as with so many other things during the weekend, it just sounds like it's absolutely fantastic, and so thank you for for coming on and sharing with us about that. So you don't you don't have a capacity or a cut off or a sellout you know, a sellout level. Uh, you still have.
01:38:44
Speaker 9: We we don't. We still have tickets available, So get them while they're they're available. We usually have a rush at the week before, so you want to get the tickets as soon as possible.
01:38:57
Speaker 1: Honestly, tickets going fast, but didn't just like us our tickets the last one we do.
01:39:03
Speaker 3: Guess I'll get it the door and then it's like, hey, they're all gone.
01:39:08
Speaker 1: Oh I can't believe. I can't believe exactly what folks will be saying. So the key go early, get your tickets early so that you're ready to go get them now. All right, Well, thank you is cute. I appreciate you, and uh, you know, thank you for bringing this to Indianapolis.
01:39:24
Speaker 9: Thank you guys for having me. I appreciate talking with you all. I have a great one.
01:39:30
Speaker 1: Yeah. The hits just keep coming, James, you know, they's just keep coming. This is me.
01:39:36
Speaker 4: This is all you ever wanted to know about the HBC All Star Weekend.
01:39:41
Speaker 1: Man, A little bit of something for everyone. But you know what I'm fascinated with is the fact that so many events are going to be taking place during the game. Now, I think there's some prompt ceremony, pomp, circumstances and all that other stuff whatever during the game. I mean, I don't think there's any such thing as a four or five hour basketball game. It usually doesn't last that long. So they'll have they'll probably have a lot of things during the game, a lot of in game in.
01:40:12
Speaker 2: Stuff.
01:40:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I think they're gonna they're going to announce I don't know if it be during or after, but they're going to announce like the most Valuable player and all that stuff. You know.
01:40:25
Speaker 1: I wonder if they're going to have like an all Star like a skills test or skills competition.
01:40:29
Speaker 4: Or that's a good point, could be.
01:40:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, they're going to pack a lot into the time that they have. Yeah, and I think that that'll give folks, you know, if you're not interested in this particular one or whatever we've got, or you can come early because all of them are going to be there prior to the game. Uh you know, so come early and get as much as you want to get.
01:40:48
Speaker 3: So and they can't give it all the way. They want you to come and check it out. Come see what's going on.
01:40:52
Speaker 1: Come on, get your tickets now, get your tickets now. So that would be really interesting. I love watching karaoke. When you go places and watching people are pretty brave they can do. That's what I'm saying. Crowds and so, well, yeah they have some liquid courage, got to.
01:41:11
Speaker 4: Be brave to get up there are let's say they're a little loose.
01:41:15
Speaker 13: Man.
01:41:15
Speaker 1: I was saying, some of them got that liquid courage and saying anything, listen, listen to this. But so yeah, so we're we're still going to be This is just kind of like a preview. We've got a lot more, uh in the days ahead, a lot more coming to share with you, and some things just to remind you about. But this is exciting and I think again it's very inclusive, very user friendly, very engaging, the community friendly, just all those things.
01:41:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, family as well, families.
01:41:47
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, family events. Yeah, I mean, you know, there are a couple we talked about the family events, like the fun day and uh, you know, I mean just even even the uh the Black College Scholarship affair that that too. You know, parents can come with the young people, you know, because she said, come, come with questions and are you gonna are you gonna can my son or daughter go into a dorm room? You know, something like that.
01:42:17
Speaker 1: There was some event that used to be held here in the city and it was for young people. Oh it was a back to school event, that's what it was. And your your mission was a parent or a guardian. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah because it and they had all kinds of stuff, all kinds of food and uh school supplies and what have you. But you had to bring a parent or a guardian. Yeah you didn't get in.
01:42:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, that was your ticket.
01:42:43
Speaker 1: That was your ticket. So I thought that was that was a great idea. Uh, James anything, Eric anything, y'all think we missed before we rolled out of here, come back and do it again tomorrow. I loved I love that that meta.
01:43:00
Speaker 2: Oh yeah that was That's great to hear.
01:43:04
Speaker 1: That is wonderful.
01:43:05
Speaker 3: And maybe Metal will put the brakes on, you know, like get some restraint.
01:43:09
Speaker 1: You think, has he ever been uh has he ever made any changes just voluntarily without being forced into or I don't think so. I do know he plays dumb more beautifully than anybody I've ever seen.
01:43:23
Speaker 3: And you know he's not No, that's the thing he's you said, plays that's a key word.
01:43:28
Speaker 1: He even wears a little to make you think that he's just not you know, I'm just not I'm not ros.
01:43:36
Speaker 4: I don't know did you guys hear about this though? The No Kings protests on Saturday? Uh, this coming Saturday.
01:43:43
Speaker 2: He brought that up the other day this Saturday.
01:43:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, this this Saturday. Let's say today's the twenty fence.
01:43:50
Speaker 1: On twenty I know it was, it was. It was Jeff he told us about it. Uh yeah, oh he did. Yeah, he mentioned it and said he was going to sit it out, let them fight it out.
01:44:01
Speaker 4: I mean, this is this is likely to be the biggest one yet because yeah, because the inaugural one was June fourteenth, twenty twenty five. You know, uh, it was over. Let's see, was this March? It was not quite a year ago. Coinciding with with that June fourteenth was coinciding with President Trump's seventy ninth birthday. Remember that.
01:44:27
Speaker 1: He's eighty this year, right, He's eighty in a couple of weeks. Eighty sleepy Joe Biden is okay?
01:44:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, well so that the case people don't know what it means. The No King's Day protests was organized to oppose what many believes is the current administration's authoritarian and anti democratic policies. The second No King's Day protests occurred on October eighteenth, this last October. So the first one turned out five million people, the second one in October seven million and organized just believe you know, this is going to be the biggest one yet this Saturn.
01:45:04
Speaker 1: Everybody's waking up. The longer he sits there in office and does what he is doing, they're they're wider their resistance. I do believe in the pushback against.
01:45:14
Speaker 4: Do believe you are correct?
01:45:16
Speaker 1: Yeah?
01:45:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, Well he said he was the president of Peace and.
01:45:20
Speaker 1: That Commission of Peace. Boys.
01:45:22
Speaker 3: Yeah, all those clips out there of him talking about peace, no.
01:45:26
Speaker 1: War, war, that thing that little rascal said that he man woman haters club or something like that. Or that's about it. That's about a sophisticated is that way?
01:45:35
Speaker 4: Didn't he want to know? He wanted the Nobel Peace Prize real bad right, Yeah, joins with Israel too, bombs on Iran. Okay, you deserve the Peace Prize.
01:45:47
Speaker 1: Show. That show is just something folks. You'll pay attention. You can't make it up anyway. That's all the time we have for right now. Our website is Praisindi dot com. Williemore Junior, your nephew on the radio, is coming up next. I love the way he says. Neph you em flat out, James. You haven't said flat out for a while, hen and he won't. Oh you have said flat out. Okay. Please everyone continue to be saved, be well, and stay in for him, for James and Eric. I'm Tina Cosby and this is community connection.
01:46:21
Speaker 9: H
