00:00:44,800 --> 00:00:49,800
I'm Charlie Mac and let me start by wishing all of you a happy and prosperous new year.
18
00:00:49,800 --> 00:00:50,800

I'm royalty and I'm thrilled to be here with Charlie kicking off our brand new podcast.
20
00:00:55,600 --> 00:00:59,100
So Charlie before we dive into the deep end, how was your weekend?
21
00:00:59,100 --> 00:01:01,100
Anything exciting to share with our listeners?
22
00:01:01,100 --> 00:01:03,100
My weekend was a blast.
23
00:01:03,100 --> 00:01:07,100
I spent it with family, you know, just soaking in those good vibes.
24
00:01:07,100 --> 00:01:09,100
You had a little get together.
25
00:01:09,100 --> 00:01:12,100
Some good food, good music,
26
00:01:12,100 --> 00:01:14,700
usual Mac family style.
27
00:01:14,700 --> 00:01:16,900
How about you royalty?
28
00:01:16,900 --> 00:01:18,400
What did you get up to?
29
00:01:18,400 --> 00:01:21,400
Well I decided to embrace the chili Chicago winter.
30
00:01:21,400 --> 00:01:23,600
When ice skating at Millennium Park,
31
00:01:23,600 --> 00:01:26,100
it was magical with all the holiday lights still up.
32
00:01:26,100 --> 00:01:28,300
And you know just reflecting on the year ahead,
33
00:01:28,300 --> 00:01:29,900
setting some intentions.
34
00:01:29,900 --> 00:01:30,900
It's going to be a big year,
35
00:01:30,900 --> 00:01:33,900
especially with us launching Chin Town 2K24.
36
00:01:33,900 --> 00:01:37,200
Sounds like a perfect mix of fun and thoughtfulness.
37
00:01:37,200 --> 00:01:40,300
That's the spirit we're bringing into this podcast, right?
38
00:01:40,300 --> 00:01:44,400
Sharing our stories, our lives with our listeners.
39
00:01:44,400 --> 00:01:45,400
Exactly.
40
00:01:45,400 --> 00:01:46,600
And speaking of stories,
41
00:01:46,600 --> 00:01:47,900

Absolutely.
45
00:01:50,600 --> 00:01:52,100
It's the beginning.
46
00:01:52,100 --> 00:01:54,700
But just a start of something incredible.
47
00:01:54,700 --> 00:01:56,400

Now let's dive into some uplifting news from our city.
51
00:02:07,500 --> 00:02:14,500
First up, the African American legacy has awarded $280,000 in grants to local organizations.
52
00:02:14,500 --> 00:02:17,300
That's some serious support for our community, right royalty.
53
00:02:17,300 --> 00:02:19,500
It's amazing to see such empowerment.
54
00:02:19,500 --> 00:02:21,700
These grants are helping in areas like mental health
55
00:02:21,700 --> 00:02:23,300
and wealth creation.

58
00:02:28,500 --> 00:02:30,500

75
00:03:19,500 --> 00:03:21,300

It's essential for young people to see entrepreneurship as a viable path.
77
00:03:25,700 --> 00:03:27,700
Just teach a strategy in patience.

00:03:27,700 --> 00:03:30,700
Skills that are valuable both on and off the board.

They're about developing young minds.
81
00:03:35,900 --> 00:03:40,600
Last but definitely not least, the automotive mentoring group is doing fantastic work
82
00:03:40,600 --> 00:03:45,300
with their auto restoration training program for gang members and returning citizens.
83
00:03:45,300 --> 00:03:50,500
This program is a great example of how we can provide practical skills and second chances.
84
00:03:50,500 --> 00:03:53,300
It's about offering a new path and hope for a better future.
85
00:03:53,300 --> 00:03:57,500
That's our roundup of some positive stories from the Wendy city.
86
00:03:57,500 --> 00:04:01,600
It's hardening to see such incredible work being done right here in Chicago.
87
00:04:01,600 --> 00:04:06,600
These stories are just a few examples of the strength and resilience in our community.
88
00:04:06,600 --> 00:04:10,700
Stay tuned for more inspiring tales from Chi Town, 2K, 24.
89
00:04:10,700 --> 00:04:13,100
Let's talk some hoops and football.
90
00:04:13,100 --> 00:04:16,500
The Chicago Bulls just had a big win against the Philadelphia 76ers.
91
00:04:16,500 --> 00:04:17,500
Didn't they roll big?
92
00:04:17,500 --> 00:04:18,500
They did, Charlie.
93
00:04:18,500 --> 00:04:22,900
The Bulls clinched a 105-92 victory over the 76ers.
94
00:04:22,900 --> 00:04:27,500
It was a great game, especially since the 76ers were without Joel and Beat.
95
00:04:27,500 --> 00:04:30,100
The Bulls showed some serious skill on the court.
96
00:04:30,100 --> 00:04:31,900
That's what I like to hear.
97
00:04:31,900 --> 00:04:35,700
Chicago Sports bringing the heat and speaking of bringing the heat.
98
00:04:35,700 --> 00:04:39,100
Let's touch on the broader NBA and NFL.
99
00:04:39,100 --> 00:04:42,300
Any standout scores you've got for us royalty.
100
00:04:42,300 --> 00:04:44,300
First, what about the NFL?
101
00:04:44,300 --> 00:04:46,900
Our bare fans are always eager for some football.
102
00:04:46,900 --> 00:04:51,900
The bare is recently secured a solid win against the Falcons with the score of 37-17.
103
00:04:51,900 --> 00:04:55,700
It was a great display of both offense and defense and soldier field.
104
00:04:55,700 --> 00:05:02,300
For more NFL scores, fans can catch up on the latest games via the NFL's official site or sports news platforms.
105
00:05:02,300 --> 00:05:04,300
Let's go back to the NBA.
106
00:05:04,300 --> 00:05:06,300
Royal team, did you catch that maverick?
107
00:05:06,300 --> 00:05:07,300
That's not sure did.
108
00:05:07,300 --> 00:05:12,900
Chicago Donstitch was on fire scoring 39 points in their 132-122 victory over the Warriors.
109
00:05:12,900 --> 00:05:16,300
The mavericks are looking strong this season.
110
00:05:16,300 --> 00:05:19,100
The Oncuch is a force to be reckoned with no doubt.
111
00:05:19,100 --> 00:05:21,900
And how about the pelicans taking down the lakers?
112
00:05:21,900 --> 00:05:27,100
Design Williamson and Brandon Ingram each dropping 26 points for a 129-109 win.
113
00:05:27,100 --> 00:05:28,700
That was quite the game.
114
00:05:28,700 --> 00:05:31,500
The pelicans were on point with their long-range shots.
115
00:05:31,500 --> 00:05:34,300
Tough night for the lakers, though.
116
00:05:34,300 --> 00:05:38,500
Moving over to the NFL, the Sunday games were just as exciting.
117
00:05:38,500 --> 00:05:44,500
But before we get into that, let's not forget the Celtics big win against the spurs.
118
00:05:44,500 --> 00:05:49,500
Jason Tatum led the way with 25 points in their 134-101 victory.
119
00:05:49,500 --> 00:05:51,700
Celtics are really making a statement this season.
120
00:05:51,700 --> 00:05:53,700
Tatum's performance was impressive.
121
00:05:53,700 --> 00:05:56,500
They're at the top of the Eastern Conference for a reason.
122
00:05:56,500 --> 00:05:57,700
Indeed.
123
00:05:57,700 --> 00:06:01,100
Now about the NFL, we had some intense matchups.
124
00:06:01,100 --> 00:06:03,100
Did you catch the packers up against the Vikings?
125
00:06:03,100 --> 00:06:04,100
Yes.
126
00:06:04,100 --> 00:06:05,100
Charlie.
127
00:06:05,100 --> 00:06:07,100
The packers dominated that game.
128
00:06:07,100 --> 00:06:09,700
Jordan Love led the charge with four touchdowns.
129
00:06:09,700 --> 00:06:12,700
Guiding Green Bay to a 30-10 victory over Minnesota.
130
00:06:12,700 --> 00:06:14,300
The Vikings just couldn't keep up.
131
00:06:14,300 --> 00:06:16,700
That's a solid performance by the packers.
132
00:06:16,700 --> 00:06:19,300
Love is showing he's a force to reckon with.
133
00:06:19,300 --> 00:06:24,180
And talking about forces, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a win too.
134
00:06:24,180 --> 00:06:25,180
That's right.
135
00:06:25,180 --> 00:06:28,980
The Chief defeated the Cincinnati Bengals with a final score of 25-17.
136
00:06:28,980 --> 00:06:32,900
Travis Kelsey played a key role in that win at 16 yards to the team's effort.
137
00:06:32,900 --> 00:06:36,820
The Chief's securing their AFC West Division title is Big News.
138
00:06:36,820 --> 00:06:39,220
Kelsey and the team are definitely on a road.
139
00:06:39,220 --> 00:06:41,540
It's shaping up to be an exciting season.
140
00:06:41,540 --> 00:06:46,060
For more detailed scores and game highlights, our listeners can check out the NFL's official
141
00:06:46,060 --> 00:06:48,300
site or other sports news platform.
142
00:06:48,300 --> 00:06:50,980
There you have it, sports enthusiasts.
143
00:06:50,980 --> 00:06:55,740
Whether it's the bulls on the basketball court or the bears on the grid iron, Chicago sports
144
00:06:55,740 --> 00:06:57,820
are always something to talk about.
145
00:06:57,820 --> 00:07:01,980
Keep following your favorite teams and we'll keep bringing you the updates right here
146
00:07:01,980 --> 00:07:05,100
on Chitown, 2K24.
147
00:07:05,100 --> 00:07:08,060
Let's dive into some Chicago politics.
148
00:07:08,060 --> 00:07:14,100
Big News, former Alderman Ed Burke was found guilty of racketeering, bribery, and attempted
149
00:07:14,100 --> 00:07:15,780
extortion.
150
00:07:15,780 --> 00:07:19,740
A landmark trial that's really shaken up our city's political scene.
151
00:07:19,740 --> 00:07:23,140
Yes, Charlie, it's a significant moment for Chicago.
152
00:07:23,140 --> 00:07:27,700
Burke's conviction on 13 of 14 counts as a stark reminder of the corruption issues we've
153
00:07:27,700 --> 00:07:28,700
faced.
154
00:07:28,700 --> 00:07:32,820
The trial lasting six weeks with testimony from dozens of witnesses shows the depth of
155
00:07:32,820 --> 00:07:33,820
the pro-fraud.
156
00:07:33,820 --> 00:07:38,020
Make sure it's a moment of reckoning.
157
00:07:38,020 --> 00:07:44,100
Burke, once a powerful figure, now faces the consequences of using his position for personal
158
00:07:44,100 --> 00:07:45,100
gain.
159
00:07:45,100 --> 00:07:47,740
It's a wake-up call for our political system.
160
00:07:47,740 --> 00:07:52,540
I'm going to go a little off schedule, but it needs to be said.
161
00:07:52,540 --> 00:07:59,540
It's deeply concerning the corruption, as allegedly seen in Alderman Ed Burke's case,
162
00:07:59,540 --> 00:08:03,420
was allowed to persist for decades in Chicago.
163
00:08:03,420 --> 00:08:08,420
This raises questions about the effectiveness of local law enforcement, including the Chicago
164
00:08:08,420 --> 00:08:16,060
police department, in identifying and acting against such misuse of power.
165
00:08:16,060 --> 00:08:20,700
The delay in bringing charges against influential figures like Burke, who now at 80 has
166
00:08:20,700 --> 00:08:25,020
lived a full life, highlights a systemic issue.
167
00:08:25,020 --> 00:08:31,540
It's unfortunate that many politicians may never fully face the consequences of their actions,
168
00:08:31,540 --> 00:08:36,140
leaving a legacy of wealth built on the exploitation of their constituents.
169
00:08:36,140 --> 00:08:40,700
And in other news, Chicago is grappling with a growing migrant crisis.
170
00:08:40,700 --> 00:08:47,060
The city has seen nearly 25,000 new arrivals, more than our shelters can handle.
171
00:08:47,060 --> 00:08:50,380
While the number of those without shelter has decreased, the challenge...
172
00:08:50,380 --> 00:08:52,140
That's a tough situation.
173
00:08:52,140 --> 00:08:56,540
It's good to see the city getting help from parishes and pursuing efforts to build large-tented
174
00:08:56,540 --> 00:08:57,540
cities.
175
00:08:57,540 --> 00:09:01,540
But it's a complex issue that needs continuous effort and resources.
176
00:09:01,540 --> 00:09:02,540
Definitely.
177
00:09:02,540 --> 00:09:07,100
Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration is working hard to manage this crisis, finding innovative
178
00:09:07,100 --> 00:09:10,620
solutions to provide shelter and support to these new arrivals.
179
00:09:10,620 --> 00:09:15,060
Now, royalty, there's another angle to this migrant situation.
180
00:09:15,060 --> 00:09:17,260
It's about how laws are enforced.
181
00:09:17,260 --> 00:09:22,540
There's a perception that Chicago, like many cities, cherry picks what laws to enforce, especially
182
00:09:22,540 --> 00:09:24,180
when it comes to immigration.
183
00:09:24,180 --> 00:09:25,180
That's a valid question.
184
00:09:25,180 --> 00:09:29,820
The city's approach to migrants has sparked a pain while some see it as humanitarian.
185
00:09:29,820 --> 00:09:34,180
Others are concerned about the legal implications, particularly regarding the enforcement
186
00:09:34,180 --> 00:09:36,180
of immigration laws.
187
00:09:36,180 --> 00:09:37,180
Right.
188
00:09:37,180 --> 00:09:41,460
The issue isn't just about providing shelter or aid.
189
00:09:41,460 --> 00:09:47,460
It's also about the broader picture of legality and integration into society.
190
00:09:47,460 --> 00:09:53,540
We have people arriving who, as some argue, might be breaking the law initially.
191
00:09:53,540 --> 00:09:57,860
But then go on to become productive members of society.
192
00:09:57,860 --> 00:10:01,700
Even holding significant positions like lawyers, judges, or even public officials.
193
00:10:01,700 --> 00:10:02,980
It's a complex issue, Charlie.
194
00:10:02,980 --> 00:10:05,140
On one hand, there's the rule of law.
195
00:10:05,140 --> 00:10:08,220
On the other, there's the humanitarian aspect.
196
00:10:08,220 --> 00:10:12,860
Chicago's situation reflects a larger national debate on immigration and law enforcement.
197
00:10:12,860 --> 00:10:15,460
And this isn't an issue that's going away anytime soon.
198
00:10:15,460 --> 00:10:19,620
With continuous arrivals, the city and indeed the country have to grapple with these tough
199
00:10:19,620 --> 00:10:21,340
questions.
200
00:10:21,340 --> 00:10:23,660
It's about finding that balance, Charlie.
201
00:10:23,660 --> 00:10:27,580
Upholting the law while also addressing humanitarian needs.
202
00:10:27,580 --> 00:10:29,700
That's the reality we're dealing with here in Chicago.
203
00:10:29,700 --> 00:10:34,100
For more in-depth analysis on these issues, you can check out various news sources and
204
00:10:34,100 --> 00:10:35,500
stay informed.
205
00:10:35,500 --> 00:10:36,500
It's crucial.
206
00:10:36,500 --> 00:10:37,500
We understand all sides of the country.
207
00:10:37,500 --> 00:10:38,500
It's right, Charlie.
208
00:10:38,500 --> 00:10:39,500
Stay informed.
209
00:10:39,500 --> 00:10:40,500
Stay engaged.
210
00:10:40,500 --> 00:10:44,500
This is Chitown 2K24 and we're bringing you the real talk about our city.
211
00:10:44,500 --> 00:10:45,500
Hey, royalty.
212
00:10:45,500 --> 00:10:48,500
Did you hear about the return of our favorite Chicago shows?
213
00:10:48,500 --> 00:10:49,500
Yes, Charlie.
214
00:10:49,500 --> 00:10:50,500
Chicago, Med.
215
00:10:50,500 --> 00:10:54,500
A Chicago fire in Chicago, PD, are all coming back on January 17th.
216
00:10:54,500 --> 00:10:56,500
I can't wait to see what's next for these series.
217
00:10:56,500 --> 00:11:01,500
It's incredible how these shows have become a part of the city's identity, right?
218
00:11:01,500 --> 00:11:04,500
They really showcase the diversity and the spirit of Chicago.
219
00:11:04,500 --> 00:11:08,740
They bring the drama, the action, and the heart of our city to screens everywhere.
220
00:11:08,740 --> 00:11:13,420
It's a great representation of Chicago's resilience and community spirit.
221
00:11:13,420 --> 00:11:14,700
Couldn't agree more.
222
00:11:14,700 --> 00:11:18,460
These shows have a special place in the hearts of Chicagoans.
223
00:11:18,460 --> 00:11:21,860
Let's make sure we're tuned in on January 17th.
224
00:11:21,860 --> 00:11:22,860
Definitely.
225
00:11:22,860 --> 00:11:25,660
And for our listeners, don't forget to catch the new episodes.
226
00:11:25,660 --> 00:11:27,660
It's going to be an exciting season.
227
00:11:27,660 --> 00:11:28,660
royalty.
228
00:11:28,660 --> 00:11:32,260
Have you noticed the surge of shows with African Americans and leading roles?
229
00:11:32,260 --> 00:11:35,260
Like the equalizer, East New York, and others?
230
00:11:35,260 --> 00:11:36,260
Yes, Charlie.
231
00:11:36,260 --> 00:11:42,260
It's so important to see ourselves reflected in leading roles on mainstream TV.
232
00:11:42,260 --> 00:11:49,260
shows like saw the neighborhood and the lioness special ops aren't just entertainment.
233
00:11:49,260 --> 00:11:52,260
They're a statement about diversity and representation.
234
00:11:52,260 --> 00:11:54,260
When you're right, you're right.
235
00:11:54,260 --> 00:11:59,260
When we support these shows, we're not just enjoying quality TV.
236
00:11:59,260 --> 00:12:04,260
We're also advocating for more diverse narratives in the entertainment industry.
237
00:12:04,260 --> 00:12:06,260
Exactly, Charlie.
238
00:12:06,260 --> 00:12:11,460
Each episode, each season, these shows get, is a step forward in telling our stories and showcasing
239
00:12:11,460 --> 00:12:12,460
our talent.
240
00:12:12,460 --> 00:12:16,180
So let's encourage our listeners to support these shows.
241
00:12:16,180 --> 00:12:20,180
It's about representation and making sure our voices and stories are heard.
242
00:12:20,180 --> 00:12:21,500
Definitely, Charlie.
243
00:12:21,500 --> 00:12:23,540
Remember, folks, your viewership matters.
244
00:12:23,540 --> 00:12:27,140
Support these shows and help bring more diversity to our screens.
245
00:12:27,140 --> 00:12:32,140
All right, Chai Town, it's time for one of my favorite segments of our show, Daw Letter.
246
00:12:32,140 --> 00:12:35,140
Today we've got a letter from a listener named Richie.
247
00:12:35,140 --> 00:12:39,140
He's got a bit of a dilemma and is seeking our take on it.
248
00:12:39,140 --> 00:12:42,140
Royalty, why don't you read it out for us?
249
00:12:42,140 --> 00:12:44,140
Sure thing, Charlie.
250
00:12:44,140 --> 00:12:46,140
Let's see what Richie has to say.
251
00:12:46,140 --> 00:12:50,140
Dear Royalty and Charlie, I'm Richie, a 50-year-old man,
252
00:12:50,140 --> 00:12:54,140
and I've recently started dating Stephanie, who is 25.
253
00:12:54,140 --> 00:12:58,140
Our connection is real, and we share many common interests.
254
00:12:58,140 --> 00:13:02,140
However, I'm concerned about the optics of our age difference.
255
00:13:02,140 --> 00:13:05,140
I fear the reaction of my family and friends when they meet her,
256
00:13:05,140 --> 00:13:09,140
and I'm equally worried about being accepted by her circle.
257
00:13:09,140 --> 00:13:12,140
Stephanie shares these concerns.
258
00:13:12,140 --> 00:13:14,140
We value this relationship.
259
00:13:14,140 --> 00:13:17,140
But we're unsure how to navigate these social hurdles.
260
00:13:17,140 --> 00:13:20,140
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
261
00:13:20,140 --> 00:13:21,140
Richie.
262
00:13:21,140 --> 00:13:23,140
That's a tough one, Richie.
263
00:13:23,140 --> 00:13:26,140
Age gap relationships often raise eyebrows,
264
00:13:26,140 --> 00:13:29,140
but it's the bond between you two that truly matters.
265
00:13:29,140 --> 00:13:33,140
If you both are happy and respectful, that's a great start.
266
00:13:33,140 --> 00:13:34,140
I agree, Charlie.
267
00:13:34,140 --> 00:13:37,140
It's important to focus on what makes your relationship work.
268
00:13:37,140 --> 00:13:41,140
As for family and friends, honesty and openness can go a long way.
269
00:13:41,140 --> 00:13:45,140
If they see your genuine connection, they might understand better.
270
00:13:45,140 --> 00:13:48,140
Yeah, and remember Richie, at the end of the day,
271
00:13:48,140 --> 00:13:51,140
your happiness is what's most important.
272
00:13:51,140 --> 00:13:56,140
Be confident in your relationship and give them time to see what you see in each other.
273
00:13:56,140 --> 00:13:57,140
That's right.
274
00:13:57,140 --> 00:14:00,140
Discuss your goals, your future plans, and make sure you're on the same page.
275
00:14:00,140 --> 00:14:04,140
It's not just about age, but where you both stand in your lives.
276
00:14:04,140 --> 00:14:06,140
At the end of the day, trust your instincts.
277
00:14:06,140 --> 00:14:09,140
You know your relationship better than anyone else.
278
00:14:09,140 --> 00:14:15,140
If it feels right and you're both happy, that's what truly matters.
279
00:14:15,140 --> 00:14:19,140
And remember, love doesn't discriminate, so as long as you're both
280
00:14:19,140 --> 00:14:22,140
consenting adults, respectful and caring towards each other,
281
00:14:22,140 --> 00:14:24,140
that's a solid foundation.
282
00:14:24,140 --> 00:14:25,140
Good luck, Richie.
283
00:14:25,140 --> 00:14:28,140
So royalty, as we wrap up our first episode,
284
00:14:28,140 --> 00:14:30,140
what are your thoughts on today's discussion?
285
00:14:30,140 --> 00:14:32,140
Charlie, it's been enlightening.
286
00:14:32,140 --> 00:14:35,140
We've covered a lot from the positive strides in our community.
287
00:14:35,140 --> 00:14:39,140
The exciting world of sports to the complexities of Chicago politics
288
00:14:39,140 --> 00:14:43,140
and the richness of entertainment featuring African American leads.
289
00:14:43,140 --> 00:14:47,140
Yes, it's clear that our city is vibrant and diverse.
290
00:14:47,140 --> 00:14:51,140
With challenges, but also immense strengths and stories worth celebrating.
291
00:14:51,140 --> 00:14:54,140
Our discussions today really reflect that spirit.
292
00:14:54,140 --> 00:14:56,140
And let's not forget Richie's letter.
293
00:14:56,140 --> 00:15:01,140
It shows the diverse issues our listeners face, and I hope our thoughts are helpful.
294
00:15:01,140 --> 00:15:05,140
It's all about bringing real, unfiltered conversations to our audience.
295
00:15:05,140 --> 00:15:09,140

Let's get this started.
14
00:00:35,800 --> 00:00:38,600

15
00:00:38,600 --> 00:00:40,400
Welcome welcome Chicago.

I'm Charlie Mac and let me start by wishing all of you a happy and prosperous new year.
18
00:00:49,800 --> 00:00:50,800
Happy New Year everyone.
19
00:00:50,800 --> 00:00:55,600
I'm royalty and I'm thrilled to be here with Charlie kicking off our brand new podcast.
20
00:00:55,600 --> 00:00:59,100
So Charlie before we dive into the deep end, how was your weekend?
21
00:00:59,100 --> 00:01:01,100
Anything exciting to share with our listeners?
22
00:01:01,100 --> 00:01:03,100
My weekend was a blast.
23
00:01:03,100 --> 00:01:07,100
I spent it with family, you know, just soaking in those good vibes.
24
00:01:07,100 --> 00:01:09,100
You had a little get together.
25
00:01:09,100 --> 00:01:12,100
Some good food, good music,
26
00:01:12,100 --> 00:01:14,700
usual Mac family style.
27
00:01:14,700 --> 00:01:16,900
How about you royalty?
28
00:01:16,900 --> 00:01:18,400
What did you get up to?
29
00:01:18,400 --> 00:01:21,400
Well I decided to embrace the chili Chicago winter.
30
00:01:21,400 --> 00:01:23,600
When ice skating at Millennium Park,
31
00:01:23,600 --> 00:01:26,100
it was magical with all the holiday lights still up.
32
00:01:26,100 --> 00:01:28,300
And you know just reflecting on the year ahead,
33
00:01:28,300 --> 00:01:29,900
setting some intentions.
34
00:01:29,900 --> 00:01:30,900
It's going to be a big year,
35
00:01:30,900 --> 00:01:33,900
especially with us launching Chin Town 2K24.
36
00:01:33,900 --> 00:01:37,200
Sounds like a perfect mix of fun and thoughtfulness.
37
00:01:37,200 --> 00:01:40,300
That's the spirit we're bringing into this podcast, right?
38
00:01:40,300 --> 00:01:44,400
Sharing our stories, our lives with our listeners.
39
00:01:44,400 --> 00:01:45,400
Exactly.
40
00:01:45,400 --> 00:01:46,600
And speaking of stories,
41
00:01:46,600 --> 00:01:47,900
let's get this show on the road.
42
00:01:47,900 --> 00:01:49,400
We've got a lot lined up for today.
43
00:01:49,400 --> 00:01:49,900
Don't be hurt.
44
00:01:49,900 --> 00:01:50,600
Absolutely.
45
00:01:50,600 --> 00:01:52,100
It's the beginning.
46
00:01:52,100 --> 00:01:54,700
But just a start of something incredible.
47
00:01:54,700 --> 00:01:56,400
Stay with us folks.
48
00:01:56,400 --> 00:02:01,200

Now let's dive into some uplifting news from our city.
51
00:02:07,500 --> 00:02:14,500
First up, the African American legacy has awarded $280,000 in grants to local organizations.
52
00:02:14,500 --> 00:02:17,300
That's some serious support for our community, right royalty.
53
00:02:17,300 --> 00:02:19,500
It's amazing to see such empowerment.
54
00:02:19,500 --> 00:02:21,700
These grants are helping in areas like mental health
55
00:02:21,700 --> 00:02:23,300
and wealth creation.
56
00:02:23,300 --> 00:02:25,200
It's very amazing to be able to see these
57
00:02:25,200 --> 00:02:28,500
that are building a stronger future for African Americans in Chicago.
58
00:02:28,500 --> 00:02:30,500
Next, we've got a trailblazer story.
59
00:02:30,500 --> 00:02:32,700

as its first black woman CEO in 130 years.
61
00:02:36,100 --> 00:02:37,700
Talk about breaking the glass ceiling.
62
00:02:37,700 --> 00:02:39,400
He attempts a historic move, Charlie.
63
00:02:39,400 --> 00:02:41,900

71
00:03:05,600 --> 00:03:07,900

73
00:03:11,900 --> 00:03:16,300
Yeah, Kila, it's a testament to the power of youth in our city.
74
00:03:16,300 --> 00:03:19,500
He, I, T, M, is not just talking about change.
75
00:03:19,500 --> 00:03:21,300
He's making it happen.
76
00:03:21,300 --> 00:03:25,700
It's essential for young people to see entrepreneurship as a viable path.
77
00:03:25,700 --> 00:03:27,700
Just teach a strategy in patience.
78
00:03:27,700 --> 00:03:30,700
Skills that are valuable both on and off the board.
79
00:03:30,700 --> 00:03:33,500
Programs like this are about more than just the game.
80
00:03:33,500 --> 00:03:35,900
They're about developing young minds.
81
00:03:35,900 --> 00:03:40,600
Last but definitely not least, the automotive mentoring group is doing fantastic work
82
00:03:40,600 --> 00:03:45,300
with their auto restoration training program for gang members and returning citizens.
83
00:03:45,300 --> 00:03:50,500
This program is a great example of how we can provide practical skills and second chances.
84
00:03:50,500 --> 00:03:53,300
It's about offering a new path and hope for a better future.
85
00:03:53,300 --> 00:03:57,500
That's our roundup of some positive stories from the Wendy city.
86
00:03:57,500 --> 00:04:01,600
It's hardening to see such incredible work being done right here in Chicago.
87
00:04:01,600 --> 00:04:06,600
These stories are just a few examples of the strength and resilience in our community.
88
00:04:06,600 --> 00:04:10,700
Stay tuned for more inspiring tales from Chi Town, 2K, 24.
89
00:04:10,700 --> 00:04:13,100
Let's talk some hoops and football.
90
00:04:13,100 --> 00:04:16,500
The Chicago Bulls just had a big win against the Philadelphia 76ers.
91
00:04:16,500 --> 00:04:17,500
Didn't they roll big?
92
00:04:17,500 --> 00:04:18,500
They did, Charlie.
93
00:04:18,500 --> 00:04:22,900
The Bulls clinched a 105-92 victory over the 76ers.
94
00:04:22,900 --> 00:04:27,500
It was a great game, especially since the 76ers were without Joel and Beat.
95
00:04:27,500 --> 00:04:30,100
The Bulls showed some serious skill on the court.
96
00:04:30,100 --> 00:04:31,900
That's what I like to hear.
97
00:04:31,900 --> 00:04:35,700
Chicago Sports bringing the heat and speaking of bringing the heat.
98
00:04:35,700 --> 00:04:39,100
Let's touch on the broader NBA and NFL.
99
00:04:39,100 --> 00:04:42,300
Any standout scores you've got for us royalty.
100
00:04:42,300 --> 00:04:44,300
First, what about the NFL?
101
00:04:44,300 --> 00:04:46,900
Our bare fans are always eager for some football.
102
00:04:46,900 --> 00:04:51,900
The bare is recently secured a solid win against the Falcons with the score of 37-17.
103
00:04:51,900 --> 00:04:55,700
It was a great display of both offense and defense and soldier field.
104
00:04:55,700 --> 00:05:02,300
For more NFL scores, fans can catch up on the latest games via the NFL's official site or sports news platforms.
105
00:05:02,300 --> 00:05:04,300
Let's go back to the NBA.
106
00:05:04,300 --> 00:05:06,300
Royal team, did you catch that maverick?
107
00:05:06,300 --> 00:05:07,300
That's not sure did.
108
00:05:07,300 --> 00:05:12,900
Chicago Donstitch was on fire scoring 39 points in their 132-122 victory over the Warriors.
109
00:05:12,900 --> 00:05:16,300
The mavericks are looking strong this season.
110
00:05:16,300 --> 00:05:19,100
The Oncuch is a force to be reckoned with no doubt.
111
00:05:19,100 --> 00:05:21,900
And how about the pelicans taking down the lakers?
112
00:05:21,900 --> 00:05:27,100
Design Williamson and Brandon Ingram each dropping 26 points for a 129-109 win.
113
00:05:27,100 --> 00:05:28,700
That was quite the game.
114
00:05:28,700 --> 00:05:31,500
The pelicans were on point with their long-range shots.
115
00:05:31,500 --> 00:05:34,300
Tough night for the lakers, though.
116
00:05:34,300 --> 00:05:38,500
Moving over to the NFL, the Sunday games were just as exciting.
117
00:05:38,500 --> 00:05:44,500
But before we get into that, let's not forget the Celtics big win against the spurs.
118
00:05:44,500 --> 00:05:49,500
Jason Tatum led the way with 25 points in their 134-101 victory.
119
00:05:49,500 --> 00:05:51,700
Celtics are really making a statement this season.
120
00:05:51,700 --> 00:05:53,700
Tatum's performance was impressive.
121
00:05:53,700 --> 00:05:56,500
They're at the top of the Eastern Conference for a reason.
122
00:05:56,500 --> 00:05:57,700
Indeed.
123
00:05:57,700 --> 00:06:01,100
Now about the NFL, we had some intense matchups.
124
00:06:01,100 --> 00:06:03,100
Did you catch the packers up against the Vikings?
125
00:06:03,100 --> 00:06:04,100
Yes.
126
00:06:04,100 --> 00:06:05,100
Charlie.
127
00:06:05,100 --> 00:06:07,100
The packers dominated that game.
128
00:06:07,100 --> 00:06:09,700
Jordan Love led the charge with four touchdowns.
129
00:06:09,700 --> 00:06:12,700
Guiding Green Bay to a 30-10 victory over Minnesota.
130
00:06:12,700 --> 00:06:14,300
The Vikings just couldn't keep up.
131
00:06:14,300 --> 00:06:16,700
That's a solid performance by the packers.
132
00:06:16,700 --> 00:06:19,300
Love is showing he's a force to reckon with.
133
00:06:19,300 --> 00:06:24,180
And talking about forces, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a win too.
134
00:06:24,180 --> 00:06:25,180
That's right.
135
00:06:25,180 --> 00:06:28,980
The Chief defeated the Cincinnati Bengals with a final score of 25-17.
136
00:06:28,980 --> 00:06:32,900
Travis Kelsey played a key role in that win at 16 yards to the team's effort.
137
00:06:32,900 --> 00:06:36,820
The Chief's securing their AFC West Division title is Big News.
138
00:06:36,820 --> 00:06:39,220
Kelsey and the team are definitely on a road.
139
00:06:39,220 --> 00:06:41,540
It's shaping up to be an exciting season.
140
00:06:41,540 --> 00:06:46,060
For more detailed scores and game highlights, our listeners can check out the NFL's official
141
00:06:46,060 --> 00:06:48,300
site or other sports news platform.
142
00:06:48,300 --> 00:06:50,980
There you have it, sports enthusiasts.
143
00:06:50,980 --> 00:06:55,740
Whether it's the bulls on the basketball court or the bears on the grid iron, Chicago sports
144
00:06:55,740 --> 00:06:57,820
are always something to talk about.
145
00:06:57,820 --> 00:07:01,980
Keep following your favorite teams and we'll keep bringing you the updates right here
146
00:07:01,980 --> 00:07:05,100
on Chitown, 2K24.
147
00:07:05,100 --> 00:07:08,060
Let's dive into some Chicago politics.
148
00:07:08,060 --> 00:07:14,100
Big News, former Alderman Ed Burke was found guilty of racketeering, bribery, and attempted
149
00:07:14,100 --> 00:07:15,780
extortion.
150
00:07:15,780 --> 00:07:19,740
A landmark trial that's really shaken up our city's political scene.
151
00:07:19,740 --> 00:07:23,140
Yes, Charlie, it's a significant moment for Chicago.
152
00:07:23,140 --> 00:07:27,700
Burke's conviction on 13 of 14 counts as a stark reminder of the corruption issues we've
153
00:07:27,700 --> 00:07:28,700
faced.
154
00:07:28,700 --> 00:07:32,820
The trial lasting six weeks with testimony from dozens of witnesses shows the depth of
155
00:07:32,820 --> 00:07:33,820
the pro-fraud.
156
00:07:33,820 --> 00:07:38,020
Make sure it's a moment of reckoning.
157
00:07:38,020 --> 00:07:44,100
Burke, once a powerful figure, now faces the consequences of using his position for personal
158
00:07:44,100 --> 00:07:45,100
gain.
159
00:07:45,100 --> 00:07:47,740
It's a wake-up call for our political system.
160
00:07:47,740 --> 00:07:52,540
I'm going to go a little off schedule, but it needs to be said.
161
00:07:52,540 --> 00:07:59,540
It's deeply concerning the corruption, as allegedly seen in Alderman Ed Burke's case,
162
00:07:59,540 --> 00:08:03,420
was allowed to persist for decades in Chicago.
163
00:08:03,420 --> 00:08:08,420
This raises questions about the effectiveness of local law enforcement, including the Chicago
164
00:08:08,420 --> 00:08:16,060
police department, in identifying and acting against such misuse of power.
165
00:08:16,060 --> 00:08:20,700
The delay in bringing charges against influential figures like Burke, who now at 80 has
166
00:08:20,700 --> 00:08:25,020
lived a full life, highlights a systemic issue.
167
00:08:25,020 --> 00:08:31,540
It's unfortunate that many politicians may never fully face the consequences of their actions,
168
00:08:31,540 --> 00:08:36,140
leaving a legacy of wealth built on the exploitation of their constituents.
169
00:08:36,140 --> 00:08:40,700
And in other news, Chicago is grappling with a growing migrant crisis.
170
00:08:40,700 --> 00:08:47,060
The city has seen nearly 25,000 new arrivals, more than our shelters can handle.
171
00:08:47,060 --> 00:08:50,380
While the number of those without shelter has decreased, the challenge...
172
00:08:50,380 --> 00:08:52,140
That's a tough situation.
173
00:08:52,140 --> 00:08:56,540
It's good to see the city getting help from parishes and pursuing efforts to build large-tented
174
00:08:56,540 --> 00:08:57,540
cities.
175
00:08:57,540 --> 00:09:01,540
But it's a complex issue that needs continuous effort and resources.
176
00:09:01,540 --> 00:09:02,540
Definitely.
177
00:09:02,540 --> 00:09:07,100
Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration is working hard to manage this crisis, finding innovative
178
00:09:07,100 --> 00:09:10,620
solutions to provide shelter and support to these new arrivals.
179
00:09:10,620 --> 00:09:15,060
Now, royalty, there's another angle to this migrant situation.
180
00:09:15,060 --> 00:09:17,260
It's about how laws are enforced.
181
00:09:17,260 --> 00:09:22,540
There's a perception that Chicago, like many cities, cherry picks what laws to enforce, especially
182
00:09:22,540 --> 00:09:24,180
when it comes to immigration.
183
00:09:24,180 --> 00:09:25,180
That's a valid question.
184
00:09:25,180 --> 00:09:29,820
The city's approach to migrants has sparked a pain while some see it as humanitarian.
185
00:09:29,820 --> 00:09:34,180
Others are concerned about the legal implications, particularly regarding the enforcement
186
00:09:34,180 --> 00:09:36,180
of immigration laws.
187
00:09:36,180 --> 00:09:37,180
Right.
188
00:09:37,180 --> 00:09:41,460
The issue isn't just about providing shelter or aid.
189
00:09:41,460 --> 00:09:47,460
It's also about the broader picture of legality and integration into society.
190
00:09:47,460 --> 00:09:53,540
We have people arriving who, as some argue, might be breaking the law initially.
191
00:09:53,540 --> 00:09:57,860
But then go on to become productive members of society.
192
00:09:57,860 --> 00:10:01,700
Even holding significant positions like lawyers, judges, or even public officials.
193
00:10:01,700 --> 00:10:02,980
It's a complex issue, Charlie.
194
00:10:02,980 --> 00:10:05,140
On one hand, there's the rule of law.
195
00:10:05,140 --> 00:10:08,220
On the other, there's the humanitarian aspect.
196
00:10:08,220 --> 00:10:12,860
Chicago's situation reflects a larger national debate on immigration and law enforcement.
197
00:10:12,860 --> 00:10:15,460
And this isn't an issue that's going away anytime soon.
198
00:10:15,460 --> 00:10:19,620
With continuous arrivals, the city and indeed the country have to grapple with these tough
199
00:10:19,620 --> 00:10:21,340
questions.
200
00:10:21,340 --> 00:10:23,660
It's about finding that balance, Charlie.
201
00:10:23,660 --> 00:10:27,580
Upholting the law while also addressing humanitarian needs.
202
00:10:27,580 --> 00:10:29,700
That's the reality we're dealing with here in Chicago.
203
00:10:29,700 --> 00:10:34,100
For more in-depth analysis on these issues, you can check out various news sources and
204
00:10:34,100 --> 00:10:35,500
stay informed.
205
00:10:35,500 --> 00:10:36,500
It's crucial.
206
00:10:36,500 --> 00:10:37,500
We understand all sides of the country.
207
00:10:37,500 --> 00:10:38,500
It's right, Charlie.
208
00:10:38,500 --> 00:10:39,500
Stay informed.
209
00:10:39,500 --> 00:10:40,500
Stay engaged.
210
00:10:40,500 --> 00:10:44,500
This is Chitown 2K24 and we're bringing you the real talk about our city.
211
00:10:44,500 --> 00:10:45,500
Hey, royalty.
212
00:10:45,500 --> 00:10:48,500
Did you hear about the return of our favorite Chicago shows?
213
00:10:48,500 --> 00:10:49,500
Yes, Charlie.
214
00:10:49,500 --> 00:10:50,500
Chicago, Med.
215
00:10:50,500 --> 00:10:54,500
A Chicago fire in Chicago, PD, are all coming back on January 17th.
216
00:10:54,500 --> 00:10:56,500
I can't wait to see what's next for these series.
217
00:10:56,500 --> 00:11:01,500
It's incredible how these shows have become a part of the city's identity, right?
218
00:11:01,500 --> 00:11:04,500
They really showcase the diversity and the spirit of Chicago.
219
00:11:04,500 --> 00:11:08,740
They bring the drama, the action, and the heart of our city to screens everywhere.
220
00:11:08,740 --> 00:11:13,420
It's a great representation of Chicago's resilience and community spirit.
221
00:11:13,420 --> 00:11:14,700
Couldn't agree more.
222
00:11:14,700 --> 00:11:18,460
These shows have a special place in the hearts of Chicagoans.
223
00:11:18,460 --> 00:11:21,860
Let's make sure we're tuned in on January 17th.
224
00:11:21,860 --> 00:11:22,860
Definitely.
225
00:11:22,860 --> 00:11:25,660
And for our listeners, don't forget to catch the new episodes.
226
00:11:25,660 --> 00:11:27,660
It's going to be an exciting season.
227
00:11:27,660 --> 00:11:28,660
royalty.
228
00:11:28,660 --> 00:11:32,260
Have you noticed the surge of shows with African Americans and leading roles?
229
00:11:32,260 --> 00:11:35,260
Like the equalizer, East New York, and others?
230
00:11:35,260 --> 00:11:36,260
Yes, Charlie.
231
00:11:36,260 --> 00:11:42,260
It's so important to see ourselves reflected in leading roles on mainstream TV.
232
00:11:42,260 --> 00:11:49,260
shows like saw the neighborhood and the lioness special ops aren't just entertainment.
233
00:11:49,260 --> 00:11:52,260
They're a statement about diversity and representation.
234
00:11:52,260 --> 00:11:54,260
When you're right, you're right.
235
00:11:54,260 --> 00:11:59,260
When we support these shows, we're not just enjoying quality TV.
236
00:11:59,260 --> 00:12:04,260
We're also advocating for more diverse narratives in the entertainment industry.
237
00:12:04,260 --> 00:12:06,260
Exactly, Charlie.
238
00:12:06,260 --> 00:12:11,460
Each episode, each season, these shows get, is a step forward in telling our stories and showcasing
239
00:12:11,460 --> 00:12:12,460
our talent.
240
00:12:12,460 --> 00:12:16,180
So let's encourage our listeners to support these shows.
241
00:12:16,180 --> 00:12:20,180
It's about representation and making sure our voices and stories are heard.
242
00:12:20,180 --> 00:12:21,500
Definitely, Charlie.
243
00:12:21,500 --> 00:12:23,540
Remember, folks, your viewership matters.
244
00:12:23,540 --> 00:12:27,140
Support these shows and help bring more diversity to our screens.
245
00:12:27,140 --> 00:12:32,140
All right, Chai Town, it's time for one of my favorite segments of our show, Daw Letter.
246
00:12:32,140 --> 00:12:35,140
Today we've got a letter from a listener named Richie.
247
00:12:35,140 --> 00:12:39,140
He's got a bit of a dilemma and is seeking our take on it.
248
00:12:39,140 --> 00:12:42,140
Royalty, why don't you read it out for us?
249
00:12:42,140 --> 00:12:44,140
Sure thing, Charlie.
250
00:12:44,140 --> 00:12:46,140
Let's see what Richie has to say.
251
00:12:46,140 --> 00:12:50,140
Dear Royalty and Charlie, I'm Richie, a 50-year-old man,
252
00:12:50,140 --> 00:12:54,140
and I've recently started dating Stephanie, who is 25.
253
00:12:54,140 --> 00:12:58,140
Our connection is real, and we share many common interests.
254
00:12:58,140 --> 00:13:02,140
However, I'm concerned about the optics of our age difference.
255
00:13:02,140 --> 00:13:05,140
I fear the reaction of my family and friends when they meet her,
256
00:13:05,140 --> 00:13:09,140
and I'm equally worried about being accepted by her circle.
257
00:13:09,140 --> 00:13:12,140
Stephanie shares these concerns.
258
00:13:12,140 --> 00:13:14,140
We value this relationship.
259
00:13:14,140 --> 00:13:17,140
But we're unsure how to navigate these social hurdles.
260
00:13:17,140 --> 00:13:20,140
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
261
00:13:20,140 --> 00:13:21,140
Richie.
262
00:13:21,140 --> 00:13:23,140
That's a tough one, Richie.
263
00:13:23,140 --> 00:13:26,140
Age gap relationships often raise eyebrows,
264
00:13:26,140 --> 00:13:29,140
but it's the bond between you two that truly matters.
265
00:13:29,140 --> 00:13:33,140
If you both are happy and respectful, that's a great start.
266
00:13:33,140 --> 00:13:34,140
I agree, Charlie.
267
00:13:34,140 --> 00:13:37,140
It's important to focus on what makes your relationship work.
268
00:13:37,140 --> 00:13:41,140
As for family and friends, honesty and openness can go a long way.
269
00:13:41,140 --> 00:13:45,140
If they see your genuine connection, they might understand better.
270
00:13:45,140 --> 00:13:48,140
Yeah, and remember Richie, at the end of the day,
271
00:13:48,140 --> 00:13:51,140
your happiness is what's most important.
272
00:13:51,140 --> 00:13:56,140
Be confident in your relationship and give them time to see what you see in each other.
273
00:13:56,140 --> 00:13:57,140
That's right.
274
00:13:57,140 --> 00:14:00,140
Discuss your goals, your future plans, and make sure you're on the same page.
275
00:14:00,140 --> 00:14:04,140
It's not just about age, but where you both stand in your lives.
276
00:14:04,140 --> 00:14:06,140
At the end of the day, trust your instincts.
277
00:14:06,140 --> 00:14:09,140
You know your relationship better than anyone else.
278
00:14:09,140 --> 00:14:15,140
If it feels right and you're both happy, that's what truly matters.
279
00:14:15,140 --> 00:14:19,140
And remember, love doesn't discriminate, so as long as you're both
280
00:14:19,140 --> 00:14:22,140
consenting adults, respectful and caring towards each other,
281
00:14:22,140 --> 00:14:24,140
that's a solid foundation.
282
00:14:24,140 --> 00:14:25,140
Good luck, Richie.
283
00:14:25,140 --> 00:14:28,140
So royalty, as we wrap up our first episode,
284
00:14:28,140 --> 00:14:30,140
what are your thoughts on today's discussion?
285
00:14:30,140 --> 00:14:32,140
Charlie, it's been enlightening.
286
00:14:32,140 --> 00:14:35,140
We've covered a lot from the positive strides in our community.
287
00:14:35,140 --> 00:14:39,140
The exciting world of sports to the complexities of Chicago politics
288
00:14:39,140 --> 00:14:43,140
and the richness of entertainment featuring African American leads.
289
00:14:43,140 --> 00:14:47,140
Yes, it's clear that our city is vibrant and diverse.
290
00:14:47,140 --> 00:14:51,140
With challenges, but also immense strengths and stories worth celebrating.
291
00:14:51,140 --> 00:14:54,140
Our discussions today really reflect that spirit.
292
00:14:54,140 --> 00:14:56,140
And let's not forget Richie's letter.
293
00:14:56,140 --> 00:15:01,140
It shows the diverse issues our listeners face, and I hope our thoughts are helpful.
294
00:15:01,140 --> 00:15:05,140
It's all about bringing real, unfiltered conversations to our audience.
295
00:15:05,140 --> 00:15:09,140
Right on, here's to many more episodes,
