speaker-0: I'm Alex, he's Jim, and this is the Charging Status Podcast. You're right, mate. You
speaker-1: Yeah.
speaker-0: You're in three D and
speaker-1: Yeah, we're actually in person.
speaker-0: We are.
speaker-1: This is our first podcast from the new podcast studio, the new home of charged status. We are recording this quite late in the afternoon and the sun's come round and is peeping through the blinds. So you might see a bit of something on Alex. But what do you think, mate?
speaker-0: Thank you very much. Yeah, it looks good. Like this. That's quite nice. Yeah.
speaker-1: So this is meant as a bit of a sound baffle. it's just a massive bit of foam, but it should stop some of the echoes. And I'm taking the advice of a viewer straight listener and gonna get a couple I've got that big mouse pad thing on my desk. I'm gonna get a couple of those to put on here just to try and stop any reflections. Obviously the software's pelping it a lot, but you know. Do half a job.
speaker-0: Yeah, looks good.
speaker-1: But y it's it's just Good to do in person, isn't it?
speaker-0: Yeah, we've found that the you get that weird delay, don't you? Especially when
speaker-1: Like we've just recorded a three man podcast, haven't we? Yep. For a few a future release. And it's just so much easier in person 'cause you can just see when the other person's about to talk, where when you do them remotely, there's a little bit of a delay and you don't seem to pick up the same cues and you end up talking over each other and usually about seconds pass before you realise and then you're like, do I continue now or do I stop? Or to
speaker-0: And that's awful.
speaker-1: edit and then both people stop or both people continue.
speaker-0: Mm. And that is really annoying to edit as well. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. so hopefully this will be a big improvement for us and for everyone else.
speaker-0: Yeah. No, it's good. I'm loving it. It's good. Great. It's a bit of a drive, that's all.
speaker-1: It is a bit, but if we can't find if we can, you know, do a few each time, then it makes sense, I suppose.
speaker-0: You do have some good eateries round here as well, so which I haven't tried, but
speaker-1: Like
speaker-0: Greg's.
speaker-1: Gregs and Subway. Yeah. You're immediately impressed by the fact that I'm near a Gregs and Subway. pretty good. Totally forgetting about the fact that I've just sent them to quite a nice pub for lunch. Yeah. Yeah.
speaker-0: It was a nice pub actually. Yeah. It was a good pub. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah, it's really nice. Verndown Forest Inn, folks. yeah, recommended. Yeah,
speaker-0: Yeah, I was quite surprised.
speaker-1: it's all right. so yesterday we were at the SMMT Drive Live, weren't we?
speaker-0: That was a good that was a good one. I Josie, a girlfriend, asked me how it was. I said it had like a really nice, friendly atmosphere, I thought. That's what
speaker-1: Well I I was thinking, yeah. It was just a lot more chilled out than 'cause Millbrook is a bit fighty, isn't it?
speaker-0: Yeah. And this one there was a lot less people. I think quite a few people didn't turn up. Yeah. so it was a bit a bit smaller than than the usual, which was quite nice. So it it just felt like everyone was happy to see each other.
speaker-1: And they split it over two days, hadn't they? Yeah. Which was there was like a journo day, which the day we went on and then today was influencers. And I know some people ended up on the wrong day or
speaker-0: I ended up on the wrong day, but I kicked off big time. Yeah.
speaker-1: Like, don't you know who I am? Exactly. Yeah. They're like, Yeah, so you're lucky you're here at all. Yeah. They said, What's that, young man? Young Do you wanna get your daddy?
speaker-0: Here we go.
speaker-1: It was we had a funny moment, didn't we, in the Honda Super and yeah.
speaker-0: I love that.
speaker-1: Which was amazing by the way. Like that car was just so cool, wasn't it?
speaker-0: It's got a lot of character. 'Cause we're we were I was saying too, I wasn't too sure what to expect about this car because I don't know, it just it's difficult to tell, but it had so much character and just was like a cheeky little border terrier.
speaker-1: I haven't watched anything about it at all because as you know, I'd like to not do that if it's something I know I'm gonna be driving. Yep. And I thought well it looks cool, looks like a little K car, so I'm immediately into that. But I just thought it'd be I don't know, Fiat five hundred or something. Just a a little electric car. Nothing that exciting. It's nuts, isn't it?
speaker-0: Yep. It got wheel spin. It's got the
speaker-1: It's got the fake gears.
speaker-0: Yeah, which actually jolts like a five N. Yeah.
speaker-1: Wheel spin, you can bounce it off the limiter. Yep.
speaker-0: It's got a huge sub in the boot. So if you put it in the sport mode, it goes Yeah. And and sort of hums like a like a boy racer car, but
speaker-1: But we had quite a funny moment where we had to pull out of a bend fairly sharpish out of a junction. And there was a traffic police literally pulling in the other side, sort of turning in where we were turning out. And Alex saw his gap and went for it, flawed it, did a massive wheel spin, like literally right next to the traffic police out onto the road. And I said, They're now having a conversation in that car saying, Did you just see that eleven-year-old boy wheel spinning and the other the other constable has said, Don't worry, he was with his dad.
speaker-0: Yeah. Thanks. Yeah, that car seemed quite eager to spin. It's not I wouldn't say in a bad way, in a in a cheeky way. Like it wasn't out of control. Like it had issues. I think they done it on purpose.
speaker-1: no, not at all. Still like it had some torque steer though, didn't It did a little bit. Like a little tiny car like that. Yep. With a bit of torque steer. I mean I I've I thought it was amazing. There was so much and proper enthusiast E V again. obviously the Ionic Six was there. I didn't drive it yesterday 'cause I've driven it plenty now. But again it's like these enthusiast cars finally coming through.
speaker-0: Awesome in that.
speaker-1: Yeah, I mean it's not too long now until we drive the ID polo, is it? I'm forward
speaker-0: Really looking
speaker-1: to that. I'm hoping they've made that fun. I don't know if they have, but I'm hoping they have. I've got the i three coming up. I'm looking forward to that. I'm hoping that's gonna be fun. Or old three series, I'm hoping. Yeah.
speaker-0: That should good though. Yeah. No, I was I'm I've been keen to drive the Perlow for ages since I knew they were gonna launch the ID two. I've just been so look so much looking forward to it.
speaker-1: Mm-hmm.
speaker-0: Cause from what I've heard it's VW back on their form again. Yeah. And they're just quality. So be good.
speaker-1: Yeah. I d I'll tell you the other car I drove yesterday that I really liked. I didn't drive it for long. was the Lexus ES Yeah, it was load it was loads of money. It was like seventy grand or something. But for me it like it delivered Lexus and I don't I'm I I've heard that the new BZ four X tourin's very good, but a lot of the Japanese EV stuff, you know, hasn't been astounding so far. And then yesterday we get that Honda, which was incredible. Yep. and the Lexus to me just it felt like a Lexus. It was really comfortable, really refined, quiet, and and it was just a really nice car to drive. I drove it for 20 minutes or something. And it could be a bit atrocious in some areas, but I I sort of got in it thinking I was gonna be disappointed and I wasn't, which is always a nice place to be. What w what was your car of the day apart from the Honda?
speaker-0: I had a little go in the mocker GSE. Yeah. So I wasn't ex I don't know. I was I don't know I don't know what I was expecting. I was I was hoping to drive the courser, but everyone had a wanted to have a go in that and the mock is pretty much the same thing. Like that's so much fun. Yeah. Mental talk still. Yeah. they've managed to eradicate all wheel spin, which isn't I don't know how they've done that. I'm not sure if it's four wheel drive. Don't sh don't think it is. Mm-hmm. I should know. but it that felt like proper fun. And it wasn't uncomfortable either. 'Cause you'd expect that kind of thing to have really hard suspension that is actually quite good.
speaker-1: Did that have any like synthesized gears or anything or no?
speaker-0: None of that. None nothing like that at all.
speaker-1: Just yeah.
speaker-0: Fun. Just yeah. Fun.
speaker-1: Had they done anything different with the interior?
speaker-0: On the coursa they have, they've put like yellow and black tartan stitching in and bit of fun. The mock is a bit more toned down. It's just got Alcatara receipts and yellow stitching. But I thought if this is what the Corsair feels like, that'd be quite good fun. And the coursa looks awesome.
speaker-1: We had to poke around in an Ion83 as well, didn't we? We we couldn't drive it 'cause it's you it's just a static one there yesterday. But I was quite impressed with that. Obviously the interior is a bit basic. Yeah. But I said to you, it's like really hard plastic. Yeah. But it feels like you could drive a bus over it, you know, as opposed to something that you push and it it goes in and you know you know, in three thousand miles this thing's gonna rattle essentially like a bottle of tablets. And that just felt built like a tank.
speaker-0: Pricing on that's really isn't it? It's like twenty four, I think. Yeah, the
speaker-1: So many cars now seems to be coming out at about twenty four grand. Look like
speaker-0: Yeah.
speaker-1: good cars as well. Like I think po is polo gonna be that sort of money. Yeah.
speaker-0: Yeah, believe so.
speaker-1: E V two, yep. Ionic three, obviously E V two, Ionic three. but yeah, something else we were talking about as well was that sort of money. And you sort of think, that's not silly money. At all. No. Like twenty four grand the petrol car now doesn't get you much. But guess you have
speaker-0: Polo.
speaker-1: Yeah. Probably. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Or a like mid level courser, probably. Yeah. You know. Yeah. And that's not an exciting car. No.
speaker-0: So
speaker-1: Yeah.
speaker-0: I did have a go in the lightly refreshed Ineos Grenadier
speaker-1: yeah.
speaker-0: with the big six cylinder engine in it. Yeah. And that really goes like does not expect I put my foot down thinking, yeah, okay, it no. Absolutely takes off mental.
speaker-1: I should have driven one. I've I've never driven an Ineos, but I've got no interest in and I don't know why.
speaker-0: Yeah. I think I think it feels like a knock off defender. I think that's probably the problem.
speaker-1: Yeah, but even like I know I I'll get shot, but those original defenders, I'm just not
speaker-0: No. Not bothered.
speaker-1: no. I I wanted one when I was eighteen, but I just don't anymore. I don't know what it is. I think they're just too utilitarian sort of or Yeah. I'm not I'm not really sure, but I didn't go in either of those urbans in the end either. No,
speaker-0: No, I didn't have time. No.
speaker-1: the they had two defenders, didn't they? One was a convertible with an orange roof. orange seats. Yeah.
speaker-0: It was something else, yeah.
speaker-1: but I do I also thought I drove the Okta at that thing recently, that Defender Octa. Which was awesome. but yeah look a little bit disappointed I didn't drive one of those. I did drive the micro for the first
speaker-0: Time. Me too as well. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yep. see I've I only I've only driven the micro for about the Rano five for about five minutes. Yep. So I don't know if it drives in exactly the same way or not, but what does it? Yeah.
speaker-0: It's pretty much the exact same. I don't think they've changed anything.
speaker-1: just headlights and badge and
speaker-0: Little bit of software different. Yeah. Yeah. That's about it really.
speaker-1: yeah. Weird that there's no park on them.
speaker-0: Yeah. Just have to pull the handbrake, I think, from memory. Yeah. I can't remember. Yeah.
speaker-1: It's just it's just weird. Like the why not just put a part button on the end of the stalk. Hmm. That
speaker-0: Yeah.
speaker-1: I thought that was quite fun. It was all right.
speaker-0: It's a good they're really good cars. Yeah. They're well well sorted out in terms of how they drive. What was the best thing I drove then? I don't know.
speaker-1: that was weird, wasn't it? We we both went out in the new Mitsubishi Outlander Fev. Mm-hmm. And then for some reason you decided to inspect the charge port and we found a Chadimo on
speaker-0: Hmm, it's a bit weird.
speaker-1: So we were gonna ask, weren't we, what the story was and I think we got distracted by a shiny thing. but I wonder if that's like pre-production one from Japan that's been sent over, or if it's gonna have Chadimo.
speaker-0: I dunno. It's weird. 'Cause no one's building Chadamo side.
speaker-1: Type two for A C, didn't it? Yes. But just Chadmo for D C.
speaker-0: I think that's what the Leaf did. Yeah. I think the Leaf had two ports when it was at round.
speaker-1: The when they revised it. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
speaker-0: So weird.
speaker-1: I d I can't imagine anyone releasing a new car with Chadimo now.
speaker-0: No, 'cause obviously Tesla aren't building any sites with Chadmo. I think Instavault maybe are. But there's usually only one s one stall has got it, so
speaker-1: Mm.
speaker-0: not sure. Weird. You know at lunch you have those metal trays with that keeps everything warm with some hot water in it. yeah. Yeah, I knocked one over. Did you? Yeah. I well it was on the edge of the table, I opened the lid to get some chips, it all f all sort of tilt on the floor, water everywhere. I just thought sorry. And then
speaker-1: Well, actually, because I was sitting talking to Dave. Yeah. Dave Thomas from the Auto Bears channel. If you don't watch Dave, go and check out Auto Bears. Yeah. Dave's a lovely chap. Yes. and a very generous lover. I'm just gonna put that out there. but yeah, I was having a chat with Dave and we just we heard like a massive commotion. I said, What the hell was that? I didn't realise it was you. Yeah. that's quite funny. Yeah. Yeah. So must get Dave on here actually. I
speaker-0: Quite good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
speaker-1: like Dave. Hmm.
speaker-0: But yeah, I think the Super was my highlight. That was the highlight of the day. But I I'd used it to drive some cars I hadn't driven before, that not necessarily drive the dream stuff. So I drove the Tiggo four, drove the La Paz Al eight, just I had a refresher in some of these cars also.
speaker-1: I only drove things that I hadn't driven. Yeah. But I only I drove three cars in typical fashion.
speaker-0: Not sure.
speaker-1: Thing is, if I I pass anyone I know, I stop and talk to them for about half an hour. If I go into the rooms where the PRs are, I'll stand and talk to someone for I spent about half an hour talking about Will from Kia's mullet and how soft and fluffy it looked. So yeah. I'm I'm not good at those things. I no it should it should be like speed dating. You sit down, you've got ten minutes to talk to someone and then you just have to leave whatever happens. yeah.
speaker-0: The the Jacob got at the moment, someone was asking me when I first got it, they said, Can you find out what the efficiency is on the motorway?
speaker-1: By the way, this is J Alex's long term JK E five. Yeah. Long term. Yep.
speaker-0: so usually this is quite boring, but usually around town it's getting like four miles per kilowatt hour. But the run down from where I am right now to you is 150 miles. and it's getting like three and a half. So someone's asking what the range is realistically on the motorway. It's probably about two hundred miles. So it's usually two fifty on the quoted.
speaker-1: Yeah. Fifteen range. Which is not hideous, is it? That's right. Yeah. Well what charge speed do you get from it?
speaker-0: It says on paper eighty, but I've actually seen a hundred and twenty.
speaker-1: How that's really weird 'cause generally it's the other way around, isn't it? They quote one hundred and twenty and you see a hundred or something. How
speaker-0: Bizarre. I know.
speaker-1: I wonder why?
speaker-0: Sits at about a hundred and twenty four some amount of time, not a massive amount of time. It will drop down to a hundred, then it will sit at like eighty, ninety.
speaker-1: I wonder if if it's measured as an average over a period of time or something. It could be. Or
speaker-0: But yeah. But yeah.
speaker-1: Hm, fine. How's how's it been otherwise?
speaker-0: It's it's if I'm not doing massive motorway stuff like I've just done today, it's really efficient. Yeah. It's quite impressive. Yeah.
speaker-1: And And to be fair, lots of cars fall off at motorway speed, don't they? Yeah.
speaker-0: And it's not the most aerodynamic thing in the world, is it? Yeah. It's like a bit of a brick. Yeah. it's got some weird issues with locking and walking away. I mean, I just discovered it was unlocked still. Yeah, but
speaker-1: But that's we think is just your car, don't we? Yeah.
speaker-0: Because there's some software issues. They're gonna Jake are gonna take it away and update it.
speaker-1: Your car had basically just been sat for like a year, hadn't it?
speaker-0: It's twelve months old, basically.
speaker-1: It's weird and had like a few hundred miles on it.
speaker-0: hundred miles. It's on three thousand now. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
speaker-0: yeah. I'm enjoying it. It's quite good. Yeah. yeah, have to see how it goes. I've got a full in depth sort of living with review to film later later next month. Yep. Should be quite good. But I'm quite enjoying living with it. It's quite useful at moment 'cause of my situation. just having a a car that's can swallow all of our stuff. Yeah. All of our luggage and things. But yeah, yeah, yeah. It's quite useful. Yeah. Cool.
speaker-1: That's that's
speaker-0: There's more of them We've noticed the same thing. When you drive a car that like a cash car or something, there's a more there's loads of them around and you drive that car, you'll see them all the time. well. There's actually loads of those E fives around. You
speaker-1: yeah, but you get
speaker-0: just don't see Yeah. And but as soon as you drive one, you see like, friend. So
speaker-1: Yeah.
speaker-0: So there's actually a lot more of them than you think there are. So Yeah.
speaker-1: What what are you going to try and get another one when that goes back?
speaker-0: I'm gonna try and get another long term, yeah. Yeah, Aeon.
speaker-1: You who were you tapping up for one yesterday? yeah, Aeon.
speaker-0: Which actually I was really impressed with that. The Aeon U T. Yeah.
speaker-1: Right. That's the one I unfortunately didn't go to. I sat on the tarmac at Heathrow instead. Yeah. Yeah, it look I must admit, when I saw it on paper, when the the origin initial sort of press shots came out and stuff, I just thought, no, it's another car that someone hasn't designed. Yeah, it just looks awkward. Yeah. And in the flesh it looked I thought it looked a lot better in the flesh than it did on paper. There
speaker-0: Completely agree. Yeah.
speaker-1: was I wouldn't say it's like an amazing looking car. No. But I thought, that actually looks all right.
speaker-0: Yeah, and it drives nicely as well. Yeah. Yeah. The only issue I've it's got, and I gave them some feedback, it's just the regen's not good enough. It's just not one pedal and it's just Yeah. You still expect one pedal driving now. Yeah. that's the only thing I could find wrong with it really. looks nice.
speaker-1: Sw when I drove the A on V, that was all quite impressive apart from the drive. There were just most of it was fine. There were just a couple of things where I thought this feels like they haven't
speaker-0: Mm-hmm. Some software somewhere, the motor and
speaker-1: And it all felt like stuff that you could fix with firmware and b like everything worked, but you think, this could be a bit better, that could be a bit better, but like software kind of stuff. but I guess there'll be a bit of that because at the end of the day the the the the preferences of drivers in China compared to over here was so different. And I know Chiang'an have had that R and D centre in Birmingham for donkeys years, but Same thing with the Chang'an. I got into that. And it felt like it just needed some tweaks. but yeah, I suppose they have these R D centres in Europe, but then they do it as Europe. And in the UK, we've got quite different needs to the rest of Europe because our roads are poo. Yeah. And we we have roundabouts, little tight country lanes and all the rest of it, where you compare it to Germany.
speaker-0: I know Germany's such a nice place to drive.
speaker-1: Yeah. In in fact when I was in the south of France the other week
speaker-0: Rebecca.
speaker-1: the like the roads, even up in the mountains, the roads were incredible.
speaker-0: Surprised you drove anyway, you had a helicopter ride.
speaker-1: No helicopter rights, yeah. That was that was pretty cool.
speaker-0: Yeah, looked awesome. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah. I must admit that's one of those pinch me moments. I just
speaker-0: Not surprised.
speaker-1: think I'm doing this like for a living. Yeah. Well, if someone watches a video. Yeah. Yeah, you d I don't know, I just felt extremely lucky to do what I do that day going up in a helicopter. That's so cool. Yeah. Yeah, it was very, very cool. Yeah. That was we we flew into Nice Airport and We had a helicopter ride from there to the hotel, which was interesting. it was great. Yeah, absolutely unbelievable. That video won't be out for I haven't put the helicopter in the video because it's about a car. But that won't be out for a bit, so I can't really mention it yet, I don't think. Because this will probably come out before the embargo. Yeah. Hmm.
speaker-0: So yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah. I also went to I was supposed to go to Munich for P V seven. We haven't discussed this before, have we?
speaker-0: I think we mentioned the P V seven on the last episode it recorded.
speaker-1: I think I s hinted to the fact I might be well, I was supposed to be going and it was gonna be a little bit of a scoop because it was just me, Watcar and electrifying. Yep. And we sat on the tarmac for five hours instead and didn't go anywhere.
speaker-0: Yeah, I think it made the news. I heard it on the radio but all the flights were delayed. I was like no.
speaker-1: Yeah. And it's air traffic control went down basically for the pretty much the whole country. but we did actually have a laugh on the flight. We had a little WhatsApp group and we were having a bit of a laugh. So it was all right. Yeah.
speaker-0: That's right then.
speaker-1: absolute chaos at baggage claim afterwards, but there we go. and then I have I've also just been somewhere else just for a day. I went to to Holland for a day. Yes. That's right. to see a couple of cars, which again I don't think I can talk about yet because of embargoes fine. But one of them was really surprising. They were just studio shoots. but one of them was really properly surprising. It's a car that exists now and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it's a bit boring and it's just there. And you've you probably drive past one of those every day, but You just don't notice it. Yep. And the new one you will notice.
speaker-0: So
speaker-1: Yeah.
speaker-0: did you have longer than fifteen minutes to film the the video?
speaker-1: I had I had forty minutes with one and about half an hour with the other.
speaker-0: Much better.
speaker-1: And it was all right, yeah. And I'd I had a cameraman
speaker-0: That's good.
speaker-1: on both both of which was good, so I didn't have to take Nikar. In fact, when we went into the studio, they took our phones and put stickers over all the cameras. Really? Yeah. Yeah.
speaker-0: right, yeah. Wow. Yeah.
speaker-1: Thomas was there. Let's go. yeah. From I'll talk a fool. Yeah. I didn't get I didn't get to speak to him. But Yeah, that was that was good good little trip, but it was a very busy day. That
speaker-0: Yeah, I'm not
speaker-1: was like a fourteen hour day. Yeah. I was up up at about in fact more than that, I was up at about half five. Then in
speaker-0: it's usually morning then. Yeah, they
speaker-1: into the airport, and then I think we landed again at Heathrow at half nine at night. And then I drive home for two hours. So I think I got in the door at midnight. Yeah. But We suffer for our art, unfortunately, Alex. Us artists.
speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah. There's a fiat thing next week. I don't know if you'll go into that.
speaker-1: I I was going to that and I'm now not because I've just got I've got like a family thing that that clashes with and I've just got a lot going on and I just I can't really afford the time. and it would have been an overnight for me and I've I just haven't got the time. It's a bit of a drive on. So Cameron's going up there and he's gonna cover it on the website for me. Okay. So that's good. Yeah. But you're you're doing that, aren't you? Yeah. Was it the one liter?
speaker-0: It's the new Five Hundred hybrid. 'cause it's got a very, very small battery.
speaker-1: But nine volt.
speaker-0: I th I don't know. A dura cell. Yeah, I think it's like forty eight volt I think. it's very, very small. but they've they've shoehorned the a petrol engine into the E V platform. Yeah, exactly.
speaker-1: They can't actually put an automatic in, can't because they couldn't find an automatic gearbox big enough. Is that so small enough? Is that so? well, this is what a learned I see journalist colleague or comrade said to me is that it's manual only because they couldn't get a small enough automatic gearbox. Because they've reverse engine normally it yeah, it w always was, wasn't it? E V will take the engine out, shoehorn batteries and motors in here. And that one they've done it the other way round.
speaker-0: Jeep Avengers like that as well. is the Jeep Avenger they had to shoehorn a engine into, I I I under
speaker-1: yeah, 'cause that was that was E V only at launch, wasn't it? 'Cause it it was at Everything Electric, I think the first one I went to.
speaker-0: Yeah, and then Jeep have said they had so much interest from customers saying, Can we just have a petrol one? Yeah. Which, yeah. Yeah, I kind of understand to an extent.
speaker-1: Speaking of everything electric, did you see former Everything Electric presenter Jack Scarlett's video on that new Tesla truck they did for Top Gear? That
speaker-0: What a lovely video.
speaker-1: was great, wasn't it?
speaker-0: Yeah. It's shot so well. Yeah. 'cause I think I think I think Jack's taken I can't remember his name. I think w whatever videography he used to use at Everything Electric, he's taken him with him. Andrew, I think his name is. okay. So it it just shot beautifully. Yeah. It's edited well. but that that truck looks so good. Mm. I was quite impressed with sort of the level of detail they went into. Yeah. 'Cause yeah.
speaker-1: That backdrop in the desert as well. Yeah. Like is proper stuff up. I that's like one of my favourite places on earth is every year when I do LA LA Auto Show I always end up going on to Vegas. nice. Simply because I want to drive through the
speaker-0: I need to do that one day. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah, we'll do that one day. Yeah.
speaker-0: Yeah. It's romantic.
speaker-1: Yeah. Maybe top down. And and we'll get a convertible car. Yeah.
speaker-0: Cheers.
speaker-1: Might as well just get one bedroom. Yeah. Save on costs when we're
speaker-0: Well, that's why I was
speaker-1: twin rooms can be a bit more expensive than a double though. Just
speaker-0: Right.
speaker-1: saying. Yeah. Mm hmm.
speaker-0: No, very very good video.
speaker-1: Have you got a shoehorn? A shoe horn. Have you ever spent time in a Turkish prison?
speaker-0: I haven't. No. No. I'm a good boy.
speaker-1: Do you like gladiator movies? gee. It's all gone wrong again. It has. It's your fault. We were doing so well. Yeah.
speaker-0: No, it I I enjoyed that video a lot. I wish it was a bit longer. 'cause it's just so interesting. Like I can't remember his name. The the guy who runs the program for the Tesla semi. he just yeah, very knowledgeable. And they're gonna sell him in the UK, which is awesome. Yeah. So
speaker-1: So have you met Jack before? Jack.
speaker-0: No. He's probably like three times my height.
speaker-1: Say that that would be quite amusing actually. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's massive.
speaker-0: Yeah. He's like really tall. Yeah.
speaker-1: Like surprisingly so. Yeah.
speaker-0: Can't have it all, can you?
speaker-1: No, exactly.
speaker-0: Yeah.
speaker-1: Or any of it. Sometimes.
speaker-0: so yeah, I think someone took a photo of some sort of slideshow that Tesla are gonna start building I think they're called mega chargers in the UK for the Laurent one
speaker-1: And one not too far away from here.
speaker-0: in Southampton apparently. Yeah. Yeah.
speaker-1: Which I'm sure will be on the docks. Yeah. Yeah, because like the amount of HGV traffic that goes through there every day is insane.
speaker-0: Yeah. As soon as I get somewhere near where is it? Somewhere on the four that I break off to get down to Bournemouth, the amount of lorries you see just full of new cars going north. yeah. Mental. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
speaker-1: Really crazy. Yeah, and on the docks at Southampton, like if there's just if you're lucky and you time it right, you'll see one of the they have these big Grimaldi lined ships come in and they're just they look like a big concrete block.
speaker-0: Yeah, it is a boat.
speaker-1: And you just you'd see cars and vans just absolutely tearing out of it. You can hear the wheels, the tires screeching from a long way away. And don't forget these are cars that haven't been run in. Like or they always were. Obviously a lot of them are EVs now. So who
speaker-0: Doesn't matter, yeah.
speaker-1: cares? But they were off to cars you you go pick one up from your dealer and it's like now for the first five thousand miles and they would absolutely ha cane these cars off the ships, into these huge car parks. And then they all get on a bus. Yep. Drives them back and then the next slots go and that loop's just sort of continuous for a few hours. And
speaker-0: Martis and the
speaker-1: I can only assume they get paid to do the job rather than per hour or whatever. Yep. Like piecework kind of thing. So it's just let's done. Yeah.
speaker-0: They just take their time.
speaker-1: Or maybe the shipping company has to pay for however long they sit at the docks and
speaker-0: It could be that. Yeah. Yeah. Probably.
speaker-1: but it's it's actually quite a thing to watch. It's pretty cool. But I mean the day we went for that Tesla Model 3 things. They'd had a delivery the day before, hadn't they? Yep. And there must have been what 5,000 cars there?
speaker-0: So many.
speaker-1: There those the these sort of fairly Heath Robinson looking multi-story car parks there, which are just full of Teslas, and then literally like football fields full of them around it. And I went back down there about three weeks later and there were hardly any. Yep. But every time I went past Like down the three i in that interim period, I was going past a transporter full of Teslas. It's crazy. Yeah. These the US thing's crazy now, isn't it? Where they th they'll actually deliver themselves in Texas, near the the factory in Texas.
speaker-0: they deliver well they deliver themselves. Yeah. I thought they'd leave the factory themselves.
speaker-1: No, so they're leaving the factory themselves and going through parts of the process themselves. Right. But they're actually doing they'll deliver themselves to your front door. Yeah. And door you walk up to the car and the door pops open. Jeez. Yeah. Yeah.
speaker-0: That's so cool. Yeah.
speaker-1: It's bonkers, isn't it? Yeah.
speaker-0: Yeah, that we'll s we'll have that here in twenty forty two. Yeah, I reckon. Yeah, yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Wow. But there'll be lots of health and safety rules around it. The car has to wear a high Viz. Yeah.
speaker-0: Yep. Yeah. That'd be an escort as well. Yep.
speaker-1: But yeah, was thinking all those people unloaded in the ships, like they don't actually need them. Program
speaker-0: No.
speaker-1: that in. Jeez. And like but when I picked certainly when I picked my first one up, speak to anyone or do anything.
speaker-0: You didn't meet anyone, did you? No.
speaker-1: I did actually attempt to speak to someone and he goes, It's on the app and looked at me like I'd thrown feces at him or something. And I'm sure enough it was on the app. Yep. But it it was I d I actually I did a video, didn't I? Hanson Mark took me up there and I did a little video.
speaker-0: We spoke about it on the podcast as well. Yeah. It's quite a while ago now. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah, that was well, the car's just had its first O T. It went straight through. Yeah.
speaker-0: wow. Yeah. Yeah. That's surprising. Well didn't look like it would.
speaker-1: I know. No. This is my lovely wife's car. It's actually my company car. Yeah. but yeah, it it went straight through. But I did I did some I did try and clean the brakes first. So I'd done a few forty mile an hour and then stop and I put new tires on it because they seemed a little bit close. but it was good. I was at half expecting like suspension bush or something, maybe still a bit of corrosion on the brakes. 'Cause they do squeak when you reverse it onto the drive. Right. But yeah, obviously they don't get the use, do they, that you would in a normal car.
speaker-0: No. Yeah. Does that Tesla dealership near you? Do they do MOTs there? Or you take it somewhere else?
speaker-1: I don't know. To be honest, the Citroen one round the corner from us, which is okay equidistant from the Tesla one. It's like forty five quid in there. So I just took it there. They're dreadful, but it's forty five quid. So they called at three o'clock in the afternoon to say they couldn't get into it. And it'd been dropped off at like half eight. Right. Yeah. But they washed Yeah.
speaker-0: There you go.
speaker-1: So there we go. I d yeah, I don't know if they do MOTs at the Tesla place. So Tes the Tesla place is usually referred to as a store. Hmm.
speaker-0: They have service centers.
speaker-1: I mean it it should be one because when it was the Porsche Centre they had about six bays out the back. Yeah. And you can't see those, so I assume they're still there. Yeah. So it pr probably we could have just taken it there. On that note. On that bombshell.
speaker-0: Yeah.
speaker-1: please subscribe to the channel, folks. I've got my hands up in a praying motion. Please follow this podcast on whichever platform it is that you choose to use. and please, you know, leave a comment. Tell us you're live and spread the good word because I've put a bit of investment into this now. And it it I don't know, it'd just be great for it to pick up a little bit of traction really.
speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah, so you can find us on YouTube for video and then Apple Podcasts for audio and the video version, which is quite cool. And then all the other platforms as well. Spotify. Yeah, Spotify as well. Yeah. Amazon music. So
speaker-1: Google Podcasts.
speaker-0: I don't know if that exists anymore. No. Not sure.
speaker-1: It's on lit yeah, pretty much every podcast app. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We did have someone very kindly told us that on Apple, yeah, we had no audio on the last podcast. but he found it on YouTube instead, thankfully. But that has been replaced now. Yeah, I think so. So if you did have a blank episode, apologies. Yes.
speaker-0: of that. But yeah, give us some feedback in the comments about what do you think about this new setup. You can see Jim's wrinkles a bit more clearly now. You can see my height, I guess. But yeah. Really? That's good then.
speaker-1: Well, not really No. No. No.
speaker-0: But yeah, on that note, I think we'll end. But thank you so much for watching and listening and we'll see you again next time. Bye bye.
speaker-1: Did you just see that eleven year old boy wheel spinning and the other the other constable has said, Don't worry, he was with his dad.
speaker-1: Yeah.
speaker-0: You're in three D and
speaker-1: Yeah, we're actually in person.
speaker-0: We are.
speaker-1: This is our first podcast from the new podcast studio, the new home of charged status.
