Case #125: Michaela Garecht — Hayward, CaliforniaOn the morning of November 19, 1988, nine-year-old Michaela Garecht rode her scooter to the Rainbow Market in Hayward, California, with her best friend. In the parking lot, a man who had moved her scooter beside his car seized her and drove away. She has never been found. For 32 years, the case rested on a partial palm print lifted from her scooter — too small for a database search, matched only by hand. In December 2020, Hayward police and the Alameda County DA announced that the print had been matched to David Misch, already serving life for a 1989 murder, and charged him with Michaela's kidnapping and murder. He was convicted in a separate Fremont case in 2024 and is still awaiting trial in Michaela's case. She remains a missing child.Know something?
