00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:02.799
So I thought I would do something a little bit different today.
00:00:03.040 --> 00:00:07.679
Um I'm just literally gonna talk off the cuff.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:15.759
I have zero out like no outline, um, no script, um, like pretty much zero preparation.
00:00:16.239 --> 00:00:21.199
Um I literally just came up with my topic like a few minutes ago.
00:00:21.440 --> 00:00:29.199
Um and it was like from asking uh Chat GPT what I should talk what I should talk about.
00:00:29.600 --> 00:00:41.520
Um partially because I don't know, I just feel like lately I haven't had a lot of um inspiration, I think, is the right word.
00:00:41.759 --> 00:00:47.759
Um and a little bit of like low motivation, um, if I'm being honest.
00:00:48.079 --> 00:00:54.479
But uh the topic I wanted to talk about today is uh the problem with training for multiple sports at once.
00:00:54.640 --> 00:01:14.959
Um so when I asked uh Chat GPT to suggest topics for podcast episodes, um it it did suggest a few things, and um the one about training for multiple sports at once um kind of stood out for me because it is something that I've been struggling with, obviously.
00:01:15.120 --> 00:01:38.239
Um so I've been a CrossFitter for forever and then I started getting into triathlon and am now also doing HyRox, which um I guess you could argue that HyROX is or at least in my head, like it's kind of a blend of like triathlon and crossfit because it has like the elements from CrossFit, like the stations, but then the endurance aspect from triathlon.
00:01:38.560 --> 00:02:01.680
And I think um I think it was Wad Science had posted something about um when you looked at people who identified as CrossFitters versus people who identified as like triathletes, uh, do high rocks, it's usually the triathletes that did a lot better, unless the CrossFitter like also had some sort of endurance background or you know ran regularly.
00:02:01.920 --> 00:02:14.479
So um, but yeah, I feel like high rocks is kind of a a natural combination of the two, but definitely like trying to balance CrossFit and triathlon.
00:02:14.800 --> 00:02:20.560
Um when I first started triathlon, like I was like, oh, this is great.
00:02:20.639 --> 00:02:24.560
Like my fitness from CrossFit um carries over or whatever.
00:02:24.719 --> 00:02:44.000
I mean it I was just train I don't want to say just, but I was training for a sprint at the time, and um I guess I did two sprints that same year, but and I feel like CrossFit does help, or having that background did help versus like starting from zero.
00:02:44.319 --> 00:02:59.759
Um but ever since coming back from maternity leave, I have found that um and like having to redo everything from scratch, um, balancing the two is actually more difficult than I thought it would be.
00:03:00.080 --> 00:03:20.879
So when I first started, again, when I first started triathlon, this was like 2023, and then again, I'd been doing doing CrossFit for forever, and then I think whilst um like there are a few things like I was starting to kind of not get bored but get dissatisfied.
00:03:21.039 --> 00:03:37.759
I don't know the gym environment or the um whatchamacallit the camaraderie I don't know if that's the right word either, but it had shifted at the CrossFit gym I was at.
00:03:37.919 --> 00:03:53.199
Like there wasn't um it wasn't the same as like previous CrossFit gyms I'd been at, um, where there was a little bit more of like I can't think of another word besides camaraderie, but but more camaraderie.
00:03:53.280 --> 00:03:54.639
That's the best I got right now.
00:03:54.719 --> 00:03:56.719
I'll probably think of the word later.
00:03:56.960 --> 00:04:07.840
Um but that my old gym, it had become more like a regular like you know, gym, like EOS fitness or something, where you just kind of show up, you do the workout, and you go home.
00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:23.199
There is like not a lot of like socialization happening, which is um what I did like about I mean what I you know that's what a lot of people do CrossFit for, otherwise you could just work out at home in a garage gym or something.
00:04:23.519 --> 00:04:33.120
Um and so that's kind of what and I don't uh and since I was a swimmer in high school, I was like, oh you know, I want to do something with swimming.
00:04:33.279 --> 00:04:36.480
So um that's kind of what led me to triathlon.
00:04:36.639 --> 00:04:38.319
It was like wanting to try something new.
00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:42.399
Um, I ended up enjoying it, and so that's why I wanted to like continue doing it.
00:04:42.560 --> 00:04:53.040
But again, I feel like a lot of the th like being strong from CrossFit like definitely helped a lot, especially with like when it came to like hills and stuff for for cycling.
00:04:53.279 --> 00:05:06.399
Um and then um running is something that I needed, did need to work on quite a bit to get to like the point I am today where my like knees don't hurt anymore.
00:05:06.480 --> 00:05:13.839
Um, maybe occasionally they'll be a little sore, but um, for the most part, like I don't really have a problem with my knees with running anymore.
00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:25.680
Um but anyway, so at the time I was like convinced for some reason that I was like, you know, you know, if you want to improve your strength or whatever, like as an endurance athlete, like do CrossFit.
00:05:25.759 --> 00:05:27.920
CrossFit is gonna help you out a lot.
00:05:28.079 --> 00:05:41.920
But um, but then I got pregnant and then um had to stop running um because I was just getting too short of breath, kind of had some anemia during the pregnancy, and so um just kind of did the bare minimum.
00:05:42.079 --> 00:05:59.360
Um you know, did what I can could during my pregnancy, and so after, so postpartum when I came back and I was like, okay, I'm gonna start doing CrossFit, and then I'm I signed up for a sprint triathlon like almost a year after I gave birth.
00:05:59.439 --> 00:06:02.639
So I was like, okay, I have all this time to rebuild my fitness.
00:06:02.959 --> 00:06:10.720
Um and I think I focused the most on like running during that time.
00:06:10.959 --> 00:06:17.279
Um, so after so postpartum, I ended up joining a different CrossFit gym.
00:06:17.439 --> 00:06:46.319
Um I switched CrossFit gyms, and then so I was pretty regular going to CrossFit regularly, but then it's like the trathlon training is weighing heavily on my mind, and so um at the time I had like a running coach, so I was focusing a lot on my running, and so I did get strong again, but I feel like my CrossFit fitness has never hasn't come back, um, even now, two years later, and that's because you know I simply just haven't been working on it.
00:06:46.480 --> 00:07:00.560
Like I've been sort of working on it, but for the most part, a lot of my priorities has been on the endurance aspect, and even when I was training for like high rocks, like uh earlier this year, I was also training for triathlon.
00:07:00.639 --> 00:07:06.079
So, and yeah, I did the open um last year.
00:07:06.399 --> 00:08:01.439
No, well, I did the open both years, but yeah, I did the open but uh CrossFit open, but again, most of my training has been for endurance, and then so um I've realized that like and it's hard to build multiple things at once, um, which I I feel like I should have known this, like it's not a surprise, um but I don't know, it's kind of like a dumb lesson learned that it's not that big of a lesson because like people with common sense would probably be like, you know, everyone knows this, but um the reason why it worked before, like balancing CrossFit and triathlon and endurance training before is because I already had a solid CrossFit strength base, and now I was just adding I was just adding like the endurance on top of it.
00:08:01.519 --> 00:08:22.160
So it was easier to just kind of maintain the CrossFit, maintain the strength, and then add the endurance versus now two years later, um, or like for the last two years, I've just been in the in this constant like building phase of like like not really or trying to improve everything at once.
00:08:22.399 --> 00:08:36.240
And I would say um leading up to my Olympic triathlon a couple months ago, like I pretty much only started doing um CrossFit once or less a week, so not really doing strength training.
00:08:36.320 --> 00:09:02.879
I was like spending most of my time with endurance training, and um of course you're not going to improve its strength if you're not like going only once a week, maybe twice, like that's if you already have a base, like that's enough for maintaining, but it's not enough to build strength unless you're like super deconditioned, but um but I digress, that's yeah, um, but I digress, so yeah.
00:09:03.039 --> 00:09:05.360
So I I don't know.
00:09:05.519 --> 00:09:07.919
Um I should have known better.
00:09:09.279 --> 00:09:30.480
Um I still stand by the fact that by doing CrossFit, like if that's like your main fitness thing, um, it does open doors to a lot of other fitness disciplines or other a lot of other activities because you're already you have like a pretty decent base, and then so um, so that helps a lot.
00:09:30.799 --> 00:09:47.759
But trying to use CrossFit as like to add strength if you're doing endurance, like I mean that that's a personal choice, but I mean, because some CrossFit workouts is are gonna be sort of endurance day, so it's like it's not really helping you out.
00:09:47.919 --> 00:09:49.440
So so yeah, I don't know.
00:09:49.519 --> 00:10:00.320
Maybe that's why I've been in a funk over the last two years because I'm like, you know, kind of doing CrossFit, but not really doing my endurance thing, but I still like am very mediocre.
00:10:00.559 --> 00:10:16.000
Um but yeah, trying to do multiple things at once is really hard if you're trying to build everything at the same time, versus if you already have like a good mastery or base in one of the things, and then are like adding the other things.
00:10:16.159 --> 00:10:20.639
Um how they are related to each other also plays a role.
00:10:20.799 --> 00:10:27.679
So, like even though CrossFit and Trathon are two very different things, Hyrox is sort of a blend.
00:10:27.840 --> 00:10:40.799
I mean, you have the endurance and you have some of the strength, so um, I don't know, maybe I maybe I'll change my mind later, but I still believe that um they kind of go together a little bit.
00:10:41.679 --> 00:10:46.960
Um but yeah, I guess that's all I have to say for today.
00:10:47.279 --> 00:10:51.440
Just the fact that I learned my lesson.
00:10:52.720 --> 00:10:56.879
Um and I'm uh currently in a funk.
00:10:57.200 --> 00:11:04.960
So training for Anaheim, Hi Rocks Anaheim, um solo um in December.
00:11:05.279 --> 00:11:07.120
I feel like I'm behind.
00:11:08.320 --> 00:11:15.759
Um and I feel like it's partially because I haven't had like a structure training plan.
00:11:15.919 --> 00:11:22.879
I've just been kind of slapping together a few different pieces, but like not even doing it in a structured way.
00:11:23.039 --> 00:11:31.840
Like if I had written it down, I feel like it would then I would be able to look at it and it would be more structured, but it's just been like all like in my head.
00:11:32.559 --> 00:11:35.600
So that's my mistake, I guess.
00:11:35.840 --> 00:11:48.080
Um and then trying to decide because I have my first half Iron Man next May, trying to decide if I want to do a half marathon, because I've never done one before.
00:11:48.240 --> 00:11:50.720
Um, do a half marathon race.
00:11:50.960 --> 00:12:09.679
Um, but then in I had two choices, either the Las Vegas half in January, which is really soon, obviously, or the rock and roll half marathon, which is end of February, which I'd have more time to train, but also that race is more expensive, so I don't know.
00:12:09.919 --> 00:12:17.519
I do, I mean, obviously I do need to decide soon so that I can start training for it, but yep.
00:12:17.919 --> 00:12:32.480
So again, feeling like I'm in a little funk um in a lot of aspects of my life, um, also in my business, but but yeah, that's all I have for today.
00:12:32.720 --> 00:12:37.200
Um yeah, wanted to do something a little different.
00:12:37.600 --> 00:12:47.519
Figured no one really listens to these podcasts, so um I am definitely able to do that without it being super weird.
00:12:47.919 --> 00:12:51.360
But um Yeah, thank you for listening.
00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:57.919
If you are a person and are listening to it, even though I just said no one's probably listening to it.
00:12:58.240 --> 00:13:03.679
So I really do appreciate you if you are listening to this, or if you did listen to this.
00:13:03.919 --> 00:13:09.279
Um and I do have merch if you're interested in helping to support me.
00:13:09.440 --> 00:13:13.039
Um, I think it's linked in the show notes on my website, just a few shirts.
00:13:13.200 --> 00:13:16.720
I did just add a long sleeve shirt, so I ordered a sample of it.
00:13:16.960 --> 00:13:19.919
So hopefully it's a good long sleeve shirt.
00:13:20.080 --> 00:13:23.200
And if not, then I'll, you know, get a different one.
00:13:23.360 --> 00:13:28.399
But um, but yeah, thank you so much for listening, and I'll see you in the next conversation.
00:13:28.960 --> 00:13:29.200
Bye.
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:02.799
So I thought I would do something a little bit different today.
00:00:03.040 --> 00:00:07.679
Um I'm just literally gonna talk off the cuff.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:15.759
I have zero out like no outline, um, no script, um, like pretty much zero preparation.
00:00:16.239 --> 00:00:21.199
Um I literally just came up with my topic like a few minutes ago.
00:00:21.440 --> 00:00:29.199
Um and it was like from asking uh Chat GPT what I should talk what I should talk about.
00:00:29.600 --> 00:00:41.520
Um partially because I don't know, I just feel like lately I haven't had a lot of um inspiration, I think, is the right word.
00:00:41.759 --> 00:00:47.759
Um and a little bit of like low motivation, um, if I'm being honest.
00:00:48.079 --> 00:00:54.479
But uh the topic I wanted to talk about today is uh the problem with training for multiple sports at once.
00:00:54.640 --> 00:01:14.959
Um so when I asked uh Chat GPT to suggest topics for podcast episodes, um it it did suggest a few things, and um the one about training for multiple sports at once um kind of stood out for me because it is something that I've been struggling with, obviously.

00:02:20.639 --> 00:02:24.560

Um but that my old gym, it had become more like a regular like you know, gym, like EOS fitness or something, where you just kind of show up, you do the workout, and you go home.

00:09:03.039 --> 00:09:05.360
So I I don't know.
00:09:05.519 --> 00:09:07.919
Um I should have known better.
00:09:09.279 --> 00:09:30.480
Um I still stand by the fact that by doing CrossFit, like if that's like your main fitness thing, um, it does open doors to a lot of other fitness disciplines or other a lot of other activities because you're already you have like a pretty decent base, and then so um, so that helps a lot.
00:09:30.799 --> 00:09:47.759
But trying to use CrossFit as like to add strength if you're doing endurance, like I mean that that's a personal choice, but I mean, because some CrossFit workouts is are gonna be sort of endurance day, so it's like it's not really helping you out.
00:09:47.919 --> 00:09:49.440
So so yeah, I don't know.
00:09:49.519 --> 00:10:00.320
Maybe that's why I've been in a funk over the last two years because I'm like, you know, kind of doing CrossFit, but not really doing my endurance thing, but I still like am very mediocre.
00:10:00.559 --> 00:10:16.000
Um but yeah, trying to do multiple things at once is really hard if you're trying to build everything at the same time, versus if you already have like a good mastery or base in one of the things, and then are like adding the other things.
00:10:16.159 --> 00:10:20.639
Um how they are related to each other also plays a role.
00:10:20.799 --> 00:10:27.679
So, like even though CrossFit and Trathon are two very different things, Hyrox is sort of a blend.
00:10:27.840 --> 00:10:40.799
I mean, you have the endurance and you have some of the strength, so um, I don't know, maybe I maybe I'll change my mind later, but I still believe that um they kind of go together a little bit.
00:10:41.679 --> 00:10:46.960
Um but yeah, I guess that's all I have to say for today.
00:10:47.279 --> 00:10:51.440
Just the fact that I learned my lesson.
00:10:52.720 --> 00:10:56.879
Um and I'm uh currently in a funk.
00:10:57.200 --> 00:11:04.960
So training for Anaheim, Hi Rocks Anaheim, um solo um in December.
00:11:05.279 --> 00:11:07.120
I feel like I'm behind.
00:11:08.320 --> 00:11:15.759
Um and I feel like it's partially because I haven't had like a structure training plan.
00:11:15.919 --> 00:11:22.879
I've just been kind of slapping together a few different pieces, but like not even doing it in a structured way.
00:11:23.039 --> 00:11:31.840
Like if I had written it down, I feel like it would then I would be able to look at it and it would be more structured, but it's just been like all like in my head.
00:11:32.559 --> 00:11:35.600
So that's my mistake, I guess.
00:11:35.840 --> 00:11:48.080
Um and then trying to decide because I have my first half Iron Man next May, trying to decide if I want to do a half marathon, because I've never done one before.
00:11:48.240 --> 00:11:50.720
Um, do a half marathon race.
00:11:50.960 --> 00:12:09.679
Um, but then in I had two choices, either the Las Vegas half in January, which is really soon, obviously, or the rock and roll half marathon, which is end of February, which I'd have more time to train, but also that race is more expensive, so I don't know.
00:12:09.919 --> 00:12:17.519
I do, I mean, obviously I do need to decide soon so that I can start training for it, but yep.
00:12:17.919 --> 00:12:32.480
So again, feeling like I'm in a little funk um in a lot of aspects of my life, um, also in my business, but but yeah, that's all I have for today.
00:12:32.720 --> 00:12:37.200
Um yeah, wanted to do something a little different.
00:12:37.600 --> 00:12:47.519
Figured no one really listens to these podcasts, so um I am definitely able to do that without it being super weird.
00:12:47.919 --> 00:12:51.360
But um Yeah, thank you for listening.
00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:57.919
If you are a person and are listening to it, even though I just said no one's probably listening to it.
00:12:58.240 --> 00:13:03.679
So I really do appreciate you if you are listening to this, or if you did listen to this.
00:13:03.919 --> 00:13:09.279
Um and I do have merch if you're interested in helping to support me.
00:13:09.440 --> 00:13:13.039
Um, I think it's linked in the show notes on my website, just a few shirts.
00:13:13.200 --> 00:13:16.720
I did just add a long sleeve shirt, so I ordered a sample of it.
00:13:16.960 --> 00:13:19.919
So hopefully it's a good long sleeve shirt.
00:13:20.080 --> 00:13:23.200
And if not, then I'll, you know, get a different one.
00:13:23.360 --> 00:13:28.399
But um, but yeah, thank you so much for listening, and I'll see you in the next conversation.
00:13:28.960 --> 00:13:29.200
Bye.
