In this episode of Balls Deep: The Pickleball Podcast, we break down a viral Reddit thread from pro player Zane Navratil where he explains how he would choose a pickleball paddle if he were an amateur. His advice touches on everything from avoiding cheap paddles to why the “perfect paddle” probably doesn’t exist.
We dive into the real problem recreational players face: the pickleball paddle market is exploding with options—carbon fiber paddles, thermoformed paddles, power paddles, control paddles, elongated shapes, hybrid shapes, and more. With so many choices, how do you actually find the best pickleball paddle for your game?
In this episode we discuss:
• How to choose the best pickleball paddle for beginners and intermediate players
• Why many pro pickleball players use different paddles than amateurs should
• The role of paddle reviewers and YouTube gear reviews in shaping the market
• Why extremely powerful or extremely soft paddles can hurt your game
• The truth about expensive paddles vs budget paddles
• Why improving your third shot drop and fundamentals matters more than gear
If you’re searching for the best pickleball paddle, wondering whether carbon fiber paddles are worth it, or trying to understand the difference between power paddles and control paddles, this episode breaks down what actually matters.
