Speaker 1: Four decades one destination for the game of golf. This is Backspin the Golf Show, presented by Auction Southern Dudes, one of the top five courses you can play in Arizona, streaming, live on demand and wherever you get your podcast.
00:00:15
Speaker 2: Why Hello, Hello, You're welcome to our morning at Backspin The Golf Show, thirty three years on air, the best talk show voted by Phoenix Magazine this year. Not not just a golf show, but talk show. Corey Matheson here in the hot seat girls golf guru, but sharing the studio with my best of the best here Brady Wilson, our gaming expert, and Mike Bauer. Bauer is, you know, getting ready for some birthday fun and some travel fun. So he put me, put me in the seat today because it had been a while. So thanks for tuning in and happy to be here with you, gentlemen.
00:01:04
Speaker 3: I mean, I wish we had something to talk about today. I mean I wish we had, like, I don't know, a fifty nine. I wish we had the Open Championship. I wish we had a Kiwi winning for the only the third time ever a major championship.
00:01:18
Speaker 4: But now we don't we don't have much to talk about. How you doing, Brady, I'm doing great.
00:01:22
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. How how many how many chucks around the sun are we tomorrow?
00:01:28
Speaker 3: Let's see we're uh, we're turning Hank Aaron, I'm Hank. Paul Goldman, Paul Goldmid forty four.
00:01:38
Speaker 5: Fours, yes, sir, Yes, the hard Way.
00:01:40
Speaker 2: Speaking of golf news, the hard Way.
00:01:43
Speaker 5: Eight, the hard Way. Oh yep, two fours.
00:01:46
Speaker 2: Yep, there you go. Yeah, par that's a good par, two pars double par. Yeah, there you go. I for some reason, my phone was being really weird this week and I got like, bump. I don't know, I just wasn't getting texts from our group text so we have for our radio show, and I was like, man, these guys have been really quiet this week. And then it turned into a really funny update. You know, you just spit off a bunch of it, but you know the world of golf and the news going on, and you guys were like, yeah, Corey, you know the World Cup and when I miss a text, they felt like they needed to dump all of the news on me everything.
00:02:25
Speaker 3: Did you did you restart your phone and get your stuff figured out? Like at least Okay, goodness, great, win in doubt, check.
00:02:31
Speaker 2: The plug, win in doubt, restart your cable. I hate when you call like the cable company and they're like any restart.
00:02:37
Speaker 5: When they're like, is your TV plugged in? Like I I know I plug in once. Yeah, when out of the box and plug it in the wall, we can miss we could skip that step of the troubleshooting.
00:02:49
Speaker 3: I always try whenever I'm talking with like It or you know some sort of you know, tech support, I always try and break down and be like, here's the five things I've already done that you're about to suggest. I've alway and you've done this, I've already restarted, I've already cleared my cash.
00:03:03
Speaker 2: I've been around long enough to know to do those things. So but anyways, but I got back in and then I proceeded to get you know, everything that I had missed, and I'm like, okay, good they weren't they thought I was ignoring them.
00:03:18
Speaker 3: You I was gonna take it personally. I was like, Cory is mad at us.
00:03:23
Speaker 2: But but it was funny.
00:03:25
Speaker 5: Busy with all the thousand things that she has besides the show, I've been busy.
00:03:29
Speaker 2: But if you're watching on YouTube. Oh you can't see my phone but the light. But I literally have a whole screen of updates, uh first from Brady and I literally had to stop eating dinner when he's like, He's like, okay, you haven't gotten any information this week. I'll get you up to speed.
00:03:48
Speaker 3: So Ryan Fox won the Open Championship. Yeah, yeah, won the World Cup.
00:03:56
Speaker 2: I was like, Okay, just because I didn't get y'all's text doesn't mean I was living under I do like.
00:04:01
Speaker 3: The fact that in your you know, one sentence text Brady to to comically bring Corey up to speed, joking between our group, you said Spain won the World Cup and the guy who plays fast for New Zealand won the Open.
00:04:14
Speaker 4: The fact that you do that, because that has been a.
00:04:17
Speaker 3: Thing on social media this week, is like, you know, the side by side of Patrick Cantley taking one shot and here's Ryan Fox getting off forced trills in the same amount of time. Well, you know, Brian Harmon with his waggles, and here's Ryan Fox playing like an entire hole.
00:04:33
Speaker 5: So I have a little tirade on that. And I will say this, like pace of play has become an issue in the world, like not just on the tour, all the players are complaining about it. It's a it's you know, more golfers to the game since twenty twenty. Just in general, pace a play is a larger concern if you're new to the game, maybe you've been rushed into the sport since COVID and don't really know the background and the etiquette that needs to happen. And so you know, as an operator in the field, I can tell you that pace of play has become more of an issue than it's ever been because honestly, not not a criticism, but just a lot of people don't know and they don't take the time to learn the hidden nuances of the game, right, And so it was refreshing that from the time. And I don't know who it was that putt it out before him, It was twenty two seconds till the putt hit the bottom of the cup to win the open. And it wasn't like a tappen, no, it was no, it was a coup tay to make. And I love that because listen, we all know the tour wags the dog in our industry for golf, right, So like I'll give you some examples, even as recent this year Wyndam Clark. I love my new ping putter, pink. Can't keep those putters in stock. Right, go back a few years and when Bubba Watson won the Masters, like never had a lesson. That wasn't good for us as PGA golf professionals were like, oh, there's a lot of people that think they can go with the Masters and never take any instruction, right, So like there's this the two are always wags the dog, right, tiger wears red, everyone wants to wear red. Right. So I'm a big Ryan Fox fan. Although on the show last week I said fade him that that aged well, But I love the fact that that Ryan Fox is a fast player, wants to play fast, and I'm hoping that that catches on with the golfing public a little bit because, uh, you know, John Ram's also out there talking about pace of plays needs to be improved. There's a lot of conversation. Pace of play got a lot of headlines this week because people are like, hey, you play better when you play fast, which is true, and so you know, I think I'm I'm hoping as as operator and as a as a person that's dedicated to the game of golf and its long term success. I hope that the Ryan Fox effect takes hold and everybody out there's like, hmm, I want to put within twenty two seconds, it's my turn.
00:07:04
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:07:04
Speaker 2: The first read is usually if you're if you're practiced enough and you have some training from a professional, right then you your first look is generally gonna be your gut is going to be a.
00:07:17
Speaker 5: Little There's a lot you can do when there's a lot you can do when it's not your turn. And that's I think we can get off on a whole tangent about that, but the whole but I do like that Ryan Fox. I mean, he played solid down the stretch and deserved, uh, you know, deserve to come through there. You know, usually when people go low the way that he did sixty two on Saturday, you just don't see people follow that up. Usually. That's why we kind of said fading, but you know, what a great and then the stories that come out, you know, he changes his flight, he decided he's not going to play in the three M Open. He drinks red wine all night. New Zealand's Infidale. I'm assuming out of the uh, he's got two clarity, right, because he gets the replica that he gets to keep for life, and then he's got the actual one that he gets thrown for a year and bring back. And you know he's gonna check it and they're like, no, you can't check that. You got to pick that on and he's waiting in the gate. He changed his flight to go back to Florida, which is where he lives, and who's on his flight Cam Young, And so there's two ways to look at that, right, like, you know, and the interaction, I guess was very cordial, and Cam Young was like, oh man, they give you two. That's cool. And they were like talking about it like wou'd you drink out of it? And you know, Cam Young was very social with him, very and you wouldn't expect anything less than Cam Young. He's just one of the nicest class guys you'll see out there. But in the back of your mind if you're Cam Young, and I know he was trying to back it. He played so great on Sunday and hopefully he was going to back into a playoff, and there was definitely a time when you thought he might win this outright, and then there's like, well, Cam Young is gonna sit around for three hours and maybe be in a playoff, and then of course he you know, doesn't because Fox wins by one on his twenty second putt. So but do you think in the back of his mind, I got eight hours sitting here, I got an eight hour reminder that I missed winning the Open by a stroke. I'm sitting right above there in the well. I gotta be on the same plane with the Claire jug that I didn't win.
00:09:16
Speaker 3: And I mean it's not just like hey, it's in the overhead compartment over there. Fox was seated directly behind Cameron Young on the plate. You know he was in He was in sixteen A and Fox was in seventeen A or whatever it was.
00:09:30
Speaker 4: He's load in.
00:09:30
Speaker 2: His chair back as far as possible, rocking his tray.
00:09:34
Speaker 5: Do you think Fox is whispering his ear? He probably should have hit more club, a little more loft on eighteen there, you got it over the lip there, Cam.
00:09:43
Speaker 3: I mean, at least on the bright side that that flight was Manchester to London. So that was the short That was a little puddle jumper Manchester to.
00:09:52
Speaker 5: London, the way to Florida.
00:09:54
Speaker 3: No, no, I mean, at least for Cameron Young. Thankfully it wasn't Fox.
00:09:58
Speaker 4: It might have been fun to just be like, hey.
00:10:00
Speaker 2: No, Fox said that was a quicker flight. He said by the end of it, everybody had like they had like congratulated him and cheered for him. He said it was really cool. But he said that he had like so many bags because he didn't plan on bringing extra trophies back with him. They had to do all his special privilege to get him to like check these not not check the things to bring him on the plane. And then I was laughing because he was like, I was like hitting you know when you're you know exactly what he's talking about. When you're hitting everybody with your backpack as you're walking through, you're like, sorry, sorry, he's hitting everybody with a trophy. Yeah, like sorry sorry. And then he ends up having to put it like in eight different spots on the plane, like all of his stuff because nothing could fit right above him. Good thing Cam didn't have to smash his bag next to the trophy.
00:10:44
Speaker 4: But yeah, hey, hey Cam, can you move your backpack? I need to I need to put the clear jug over.
00:10:49
Speaker 2: So he said he felt so bad that he waited for everybody to get off the plane before he went and gathered all of his four bags or whatever, because.
00:10:58
Speaker 4: So place fast gets off the plane slow.
00:11:00
Speaker 2: Well he felt bad. Yeah, so he said he didn't have a rush to the connecting flight, and so I just thought that was really human of the event, Like you don't you didn't plan that. He wasn't playing. He put himself. He down what did you call it earlier? You said bet down or what do you call it down?
00:11:17
Speaker 5: Play?
00:11:18
Speaker 2: Well you said, you said, take the bets off of him, like yeah, fad oh yeah, you said fadom. He he faded himself because he didn't plan. He didn't plan on taking all that stuff.
00:11:29
Speaker 3: So, I mean he was partying until like three thirty in the morning. He said, I'm not going to sleep. He had a four fifteen ride to the airport, so he just went all night, which is I mean, commendable congratulations exactly the way a thirty nine year young ki, we should do it. Birdieing the hardest hole at Royal Birkdale on eighteen going up there, like you said, Brady twenty two seconds after right before, I'm just gonna get up there and just gonna just gonna drain it.
00:11:56
Speaker 4: Mate.
00:11:56
Speaker 5: There was a lot of probably stuff from the final round. I mean, yeah, Scheffler's Scheffler's ruling. I think if you're Bryson, You're sitting there going.
00:12:05
Speaker 3: What well, and Bryson ends up the rules can work in your favor on Saturdays and on Sunday. I mean, and I don't want to get too much into the you know, tabloid headlines, but Bryson goes around comically stomping down grass it right in front of the face of officials, just you know, it was granted, it wasn't near his ball, but he was just like kind of playing to the crowd. I mean, I think he was having some fun with it, like I.
00:12:31
Speaker 5: I got it, as Bryson would do. Like Bryson's I think He's in a situation where he didn't agree with the ruling and it was a lot of drama. He took some negative press for it. Rory's blasting him. I think I think Bryson's way of dealing with that was to make light of it and have a little fun. And you know, I mean, kudos Stan for shaking it off and trying to finish strong. Sam Burns, you know, didn't know if he's gonna play in the event. Yeah, then you know, winds up finishing third.
00:13:01
Speaker 3: Led by two entering the day and ended up you know, giving it up to Ryan Fox. But man, there was I mean that that finished with four birds in the final six for Ryan Fox was incredible.
00:13:11
Speaker 2: There is a bunch of major aftermath from the Open Championship that we can still talk about and some things we didn't even get to yet. Congratulations obviously to mister Fox for that win, and we'll we'll talk more about it. We had, you know, right now, three m is going on. It's moving day.
00:13:29
Speaker 4: We've had it, I know.
00:13:33
Speaker 2: So we're definitely gonna get more time to talk about that because that's obviously, you know, with the historic round and only only happened a couple times. It's only it's only the sixteenth card under sixty with on the PGA Tour history, so pretty cool. We'll talk more about that. We have a leaderboard, we have people chasing him on the leaderboard. We'll talk about Scotty to talk about I found a local story from a hockey goalie that's playing in in a Twin Cities. We're going to talk about and the LPG, the LPGA Tours. Yeah, we got lots to cover. We are going to be joined by Rex Hoggard here and just a little bit you're listening back to in the Golf Show. Corey's here, Bauer is here, Brady is here. We're holding You can see us on YouTube if you want to ever watch there. Pretty fun. Andrew's playing daddy duty today. We're missing him. Shout out to him. He sent us a funny video this morning about what him and Riley were.
00:14:38
Speaker 5: Up to watching verifications.
00:14:40
Speaker 2: Yep, sounds great. She's gonna take a nap real soon.
00:14:42
Speaker 5: Clean up the plugs, Andrew, clean up the plugs.
00:14:45
Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take a really quick break. When we return, we'll be joined by the best from the Golf channel. Rex Hoggard, you're saying the back's been the Golf Show, and course Gidish, the phenomenal Bauer and Brady. We're holding down the fort. Andrew is home today, apparently watching scrolling through aerification videos with his daughter. I'm sure she's super thrilled. I can't wait for her to talk.
00:15:09
Speaker 4: Probably better than baby Shark RG.
00:15:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, RGI's learned how to put some oxygen in the roots.
00:15:16
Speaker 2: I love when you just talk to kids especially like when they're really that little as like full on adult conversations like well, listen, he's going to mow this and then cut these holes and pour some seat, like she's gonna learn so much, so hop hoping she's enjoying her daddy day. And did you guys see shout.
00:15:34
Speaker 5: Out the story this week that kids shared? Uh in one of his deals during the week?
00:15:39
Speaker 2: Who shared? Kevin K what do you share?
00:15:42
Speaker 4: Regalias?
00:15:43
Speaker 5: Okay, So going back to the Ryan Fox and Cameron Young thing again, I think most people think these guys fly private, and I think most of them do, so that was kind of unique that those guys were flying commercial. But he was telling a story. And I don't know all the players. I do know it was Brian Hardman, Jordan Spieth himself, and a couple others. They all they all for like five or six straight years shared uh private jet, you know, going going across the pond to play in the Open Championship. Okay, and so you know the gamblers in me the gaming the locker room talk, right, So what they said was, look, we'll split it five ways, but if anybody on the plane wins, they have to they have to pay for the full flight, and he said, so he goes Honestly, I was on the flight when Jordan won, so I didn't have to pay for the flight that year. I was on the flight when Harmon won. I didn't have to pay for it that year. And then, of course Kissner's best finished ever in a major. He finished second and missed by one, so he finished second and didn't he only had to pay his one fifth share he did, but he had the second place. Perse. Yeah, he's like, he's like the Open, the Open was a profitable sperience for me going over there.
00:17:01
Speaker 2: So well that's I saw another thing too, about Cam rising up to be second place on the money list now, so you know he had to be thinking that when Fox was sitting on the on the plane behind him, He's like, whatever, dude, you have a trophy, but I'm on the second.
00:17:16
Speaker 5: I think. The other thing that's kind of cool is Ryan Fox has had a pretty good year, sneaky good, and but that win vaulted him the second in the Presidence Points list. Yeah, so he's gonna he's gonna be on the world team for the President's Cup and.
00:17:31
Speaker 4: He's gonna play for the Shield.
00:17:34
Speaker 5: And you know, his dad played on the.
00:17:37
Speaker 4: New Zealand Old Blacks. He's a rugby legend. Yah.
00:17:39
Speaker 5: His dad was a rugby legend. His grandfather played I think maybe on the soccer team, the national soccer team. I mean, so the Fox family is like legendary New Zealand. So I wonder if the Kiwis are going to travel a little bit out to Madina and we might see a hawka.
00:17:57
Speaker 3: Ryan Fox's maternal grandfather was MERV Wallace, A great name, by the way, Mervrv a legendary New Zealand cricketer, cricket captain.
00:18:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, so I mean think about that. His grandfather legendary cricket, which is big in New Zealand. His dad legendary rugby player. Yeah, like one run more of the rugby player which won the World Cup, won the Rugby World Cup, biggest the probably the biggest sport in New Zealand.
00:18:25
Speaker 3: Yes, I would venture to say I've never been there, but I've had friends who have lived there, and.
00:18:29
Speaker 5: Yes, and then he wins a major in golf. I mean, the Fox is the royal athletic family. I mean, like if Tom Brady's dad and Tom Brady's grandfather were like an NBA champion and a Major League Baseball World Series champion, that that's what that would be like.
00:18:49
Speaker 3: So the conversation we had earlier this year after she won two majors back to back, it hasn't won since in terms of majors about the court of family and the jeans with Sebastian and her parents being elite athletes.
00:19:00
Speaker 4: Like Ryan Fox is like, cool, I'm hold my.
00:19:03
Speaker 5: Beer, yeah, hold my hold my reds in, hold my old.
00:19:08
Speaker 2: Worlds in you have you have kids that are athletes. I have kids that probably was a little bit, but they're more on the like performing side. But then there's like these families that have the athletes. My kids, yeah, yeah, sure one of them.
00:19:23
Speaker 4: Is drum athletes of them.
00:19:29
Speaker 2: I love that. But like there's some families where like that, probably that court of family and the Fox family, like these athletes, where I look at them and I'm like, I feel like I did something wrong with my kids because I didn't like feed them that beef that they're feeding them. I don't know, It's it's a different life. It's a you did nothing wrong with your kids, I know, but I know, but they're not. I don't know. It's just like that weird. There's just some sort of it's not DNA. I think it's I think it's literally culture and how the families grow up with, you know, or finding that need like specialty early or whatnot. I mean, golf girls specialize.
00:20:11
Speaker 3: But and regardless of the sport, you know, learning how to train, learning how to commit yourself to you know, in in this in in this instance an individual sport, but I mean every golfer has a team around them, but learning, learning the virtues of being an athlete, and especially you know, if you look at the you know, the court of family. You know, you know, great tennis players, golfers both you know, both of the sister's tremendous golfer Sebastians one of the best tennis players, you know, winning multiple you know, singles titles at one point in time, and you know it made it to the second week of a few different Grand Slams.
00:20:45
Speaker 4: You know, neverb one.
00:20:47
Speaker 3: But it's still it's you know, it's it's handed down from family to family in terms of Okay, there's a lot of those virtues and lessons that that pay off in terms of not necessarily like I want to I want to be better than my dad or my grandpa. But you know that those stories when you're sitting on grandpa's knee and he's telling you stories, okay, that that's that's gonna be a lot different than the stories I tell my daughter about me playing Little League snap hooking a drive into a cactus.
00:21:13
Speaker 4: Like, that's gonna be way different.
00:21:14
Speaker 5: Do you think the rugby Legend of New Zealand was telling his son, Look, if you're gonna play golf, at least play fast, because I can't sit around and watch this.
00:21:22
Speaker 2: There's not a fact that sounds about right. Like one thing I just think about the I mean, I see it in girls golf. I see the girls that like like some of them, I'm like, oh gosh, if she continues down this path, she's gonna get really burned out. But like I'll talk to them, and I'll talk to their parents and they're like, she loves this. Yeah, Like, and I'm I guess, I guess be grateful for those in your life if you've been able to find that that you're really good at something and you like love it, Because that's the Kortas and the.
00:21:48
Speaker 5: You knows right. Both my kids are singers. They both love to sing you know, they both inquire accomplished vocalists.
00:21:57
Speaker 3: But Brady, you love to sing every every during yours.
00:22:03
Speaker 5: The difference is they're good. You know, music's been a big part of our family. But they're good.
00:22:10
Speaker 2: Uh yeah, all right, well, you know, raising good kids. Obviously Ryan had a Ryan Fox with the major triumph.
00:22:17
Speaker 5: Has that swim New Zealand's good swimming? Yeah, maybe no, surrounded by ocean.
00:22:25
Speaker 2: Whatever he's gonna do, He's gonna go fast, that's what he's gonna do.
00:22:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true.
00:22:29
Speaker 2: We talked a little bit about Cam Rising, the money List, Fox President's Cup, anything else? Dude, Wait what I didn't know that?
00:22:41
Speaker 5: And he made a miles worth of putts to shoot fifty nine and TPC twin Cities. I mean they're there. It's produced some good scores this week, five six under, you know probably you know, I mean, sixty eight is probably par for this golf course. But it's not a golf course that I would put in the top half half a tour stops that you should see a fifty nine at. Yeah, when you think, okay, go to River Highlands. It's always in such good shape, plays a little short like they're gonna you're gonna have somebody on fifty nine to watch up River Highlands, you know, the Sony which is no longer going to be there. But over in Hawaii, you know, that's where justin Champion Thomas has shot fifty nine there, Mashdeki shot fifty nine. You know, Like so there's certain courses and you're like, okay, this is you know, Colonial before the changes, you know, it was always they could go deep there. But you know this is a legit TPC golf course that's pretty long out in Minnesota and you know, good conditions always, you know, Upper Midwest. But still like he made a miles where the putts and he made a long putt to shoot fifty nine.
00:23:46
Speaker 2: But talking about to that training, coming back from kids and training and all of that, the mental game that he has is seems to be in the media's eye a little bit more aggressive than some of the other or maybe he's just more vocal about it, but that go for it mentality that he offers on the golf course, like hey, I'm sure. I mean I haven't watched him. I don't know how fast he plays lately, but you know that aggressive go for it usually isn't a very slow player. Is he a slow player?
00:24:16
Speaker 5: I can't know. I don't know if you know, Mike Kim's not player. He played, He played at Cal Berkeley Bear but he finished that played in that Homa group that came out of Cal. I actually coached against him back in the day Nice when I was helping out at University of Wyoming. I mean he no, I mean, I mean he was born and soul, but he's you know, from the United States, I mean sixty fifth on the FedEx points list, I mean world Will Frankings fifty seven. I mean, he's he's a legit, you know, mid level guy, but he's a good player, and you know he is. Yeah, you know, it's an interesting you know, the three M is in tough spot. When I was looking at it for golf game, I was looking at, hey, do I want to beat players that played in the Open that had to travel across the country and you know, across the pond and across the country to Minnesota. I mean, it's a long ways from England to Minnesota. But and if you look, I mean, you know, you got some players that did make the trip that are playing well. But for the most part, it's a lot of guys that did not go and they were maybe they were at Puntaka, maybe they took the week off.
00:25:28
Speaker 3: But or Michael Kim misses the cut and has a couple extra days because he did miss the cut at the Open, he was five over that missed the cut, had a couple extra days. I would venture to say many of our listeners probably know Michael Kim more for his social media than for his golf.
00:25:45
Speaker 4: And even and you guys.
00:25:47
Speaker 3: Alluded to it that you know, we didn't really touch on it, or you know, Bryson wanted the break that Sky Scheffler. I mean, just just a few days ago you had Michael Kim going off on two under staying wow, and I'm quoting from his his Twitter wow. Even I'm dumb founded by that TiO temporary immovable object relief from Scotty. But I want to read you, guys, because Michael Kim often does this. At the end of a round, He'll give a breakdown. This is why people love him on Twitter or x whatever you call it. Uh great follow way at Mike underscore Kim seven to four fifty nine breakdown. So after he shoots fifty nine, he wants to share with thea. He gives a breakdown and he says something I'd never thought I would do. What a day, Let's get into it. So so I'm gonna regale you. I'm literally gonna read. These are Michael Kim's tweets from twenty one hours ago.
00:26:36
Speaker 4: So just yesterday.
00:26:37
Speaker 3: He wraps up fifty nine and he gets his tea time for today and says, you know what, I gotta go to Twitter and I gotta tell the people about what I.
00:26:46
Speaker 4: Was going through Front nine. Whole three was a great way to start.
00:26:50
Speaker 3: That's not the most comfortable t shot with win right to left and bunkers left. I worked on a low cut tea shot to hit after round one because I struggled with that win on Thursday. I had it perfect off the tee and hit a nice pitching wedge to twelve feet. Even for pros, it's rare that a putt you hit does the exact thing that you imagine it doing when reading the putt. It was a nice confidence boost to roll that putt in. And then he continues after the birdie on seven, I thought of my record seven in a row back in college.
00:27:19
Speaker 4: As you mentioned, Brady cal Bears.
00:27:21
Speaker 3: In College and hoped to do something similar, but a poor iron shot.
00:27:24
Speaker 4: On eight ended that still made a really nice par putt.
00:27:28
Speaker 3: Follows up hit that exact same low cut off the tee on nine and able to knock it or knock gett a nice fifteen foot for birdie on one of the toughest holes here.
00:27:38
Speaker 4: He continues back nine ten.
00:27:41
Speaker 3: Seven wood in the fairway and nine iron from one thirty four into the wind. I took fifteen yards off my stock and it was exactly the swing I wanted to make. I ended up hitting a lot of shots fifteen twenty yards off my stock number today because of into the wind. After this birdie, I checked the par just to see. Then he goes to fie. I knew I had to burdy in to shoot fifty nine. My original goal was to get to ten under and hope to have a chance at eagle. At eighteen, I drew a decent lie from the rough, smooth pitching wage to about twelve feet and rolled another in. Putter was feeling fire Moji after this one. Sixteen, after a really good t shot, another one of those twenty yards off stock number with my nine iron. It was a tricky putt with quite a bit of left to right, but rolled that in perfect. Now I know I have a real chance at it. I mean, he's taken us through after the round. This is like a reality show and they bring you into and they say, you know, give us your thoughts, you know, and actually walking you through. Now I know I have a real chance at it. Seventeen. It ended up being a nice number left to right wind. I like swinging full on it, and it was a nice full six iron number. My draw held up pretty nice. I hit the putt a bit harder than I wanted to, but it caught the hole and I needed only one more.
00:28:56
Speaker 4: Eighteen. I'm getting goosebumps just like reading this.
00:29:00
Speaker 2: Which is Bertie, Birdie, Birdie. So far Yeah.
00:29:02
Speaker 3: Coming in eighteen, I was feeling pretty nervous on the tee wind left to right with water right not exactly my favorite tea shot in the world. Tea shot was a total bailout left, knowing I only needed Bertie and I could make Birdie. Laying up, I drew a nice lie. I had a standard eight iron into the fairway. I had one hundred and twenty five pin down off the left to a front right pin. I knew I wanted to land it with some spin a little left to use the slope again.
00:29:30
Speaker 4: With the wind off the left, I decided to hit a hard fifty six.
00:29:32
Speaker 3: I had a downhill lie and with how amped up I was felt like I could get one fifteen out of it.
00:29:38
Speaker 4: When I hit one ten.
00:29:39
Speaker 3: Normally I usually overdraw my shots when swinging hard, but the lye and the wind pushed it a lot and landed it right of the pin.
00:29:47
Speaker 4: Was pretty disappointed with that.
00:29:48
Speaker 3: Web shot distance was good though, to twenty four feet. Then it gets to the putt again. This is amazing. He shoots a fifty nine and he's.
00:29:57
Speaker 4: Breaking it down play by play.
00:30:00
Speaker 3: The putt was a little The putt was up a little ridge, and I read it to not have a ton of break. I ended up playing about a ball outside the hole. Last thought was just don't leave it short, get it to the hole. I gave it a good rip and easily got it there. As it was three feet out. It was tracking and I was hoping I didn't hit it too hard for it to lip out, and it went in exclamation point. Unreal day. Happy to be in the history books. But now I gotta get ready to try and win the tournament. Let's get after it. We'll hear suggestions for what kind of giveaway to do for fifty nine, because he always does giveaways after tournaments. I think it's incredible shoots a fifty nine.
00:30:39
Speaker 4: Getting ready turns this focus.
00:30:41
Speaker 3: Hey gotta win the tournament, but says, you know what, I owe it to the people, to the golf fans, to take you play by play through what was going through. I mean he's talking about how amped up he was. I could usually hit one ten, but I was feeling it, so I was one fifteen was in play.
00:30:57
Speaker 4: That is incredible. Thank you, Michael Kim.
00:31:00
Speaker 3: Mike underscore Kim seven to one four for the play by play. The winner of the twenty eighteen John Dee Classic and maybe the future winner of the three M Open this year if he if he keeps this streak up.
00:31:12
Speaker 2: A lot of players don't visit their social media in between rounds, so that's pretty cool, and honestly.
00:31:17
Speaker 4: For a good reason. Yes, you're locked in.
00:31:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, And honestly though, how cool for him though, he's going to love to be able to go back to those feelings in those moments. I mean, he's journaling for himself too, right, Like what do he remembers and what he's talking about? So I love that. That's really cool. Thanks for sharing.
00:31:33
Speaker 4: Thank you.
00:31:34
Speaker 2: Storytime with Bauer, storytime with Michael Kim. I just did with Michael Kim. Audio new audiobook. Yeah, new audiobook out on audible. Read every tweet he puts out and make a Michael Kim audiobook.
00:31:45
Speaker 5: That'll be good.
00:31:46
Speaker 4: Hey, sirih can you read that tweet to me?
00:31:47
Speaker 5: Please? I love that we get Caliendo in here to read it, like, uh, you know John Madden, John Madden or w or whatever. Yeah, no, I can text him. Can we do it now? That then the cool part now is going into it today. He now has a three stroke league because Chatfield is going deep. But Ben Coles is right there, Emiliano Grillo, Grilloh, but like he's got a three stroke lead, thirty six to play. He's got to come back, go sixty nine to fifty nine. You know what's he going to shoot today? Not gonna probably shoot fifty nine again. But we'll see, you know, if he be you know, we we typically will fade a low round like that in the next round. But I think he's pretty I think he's just a different character.
00:32:40
Speaker 3: I'm looking forward to seeing when we get to golf gaming one on one in about twenty minutes what his over under is when you break it out.
00:32:47
Speaker 5: There, because I looked at it. Yeah, I figured you did, and it's just not I mean it's.
00:32:52
Speaker 4: Not sixty one, no, of course not.
00:32:55
Speaker 5: Yeah, well i'll tell you. I'll tell you what it is. It's sixty seven and a half.
00:33:01
Speaker 4: Okay.
00:33:02
Speaker 3: He shot a sixty nine in the first round, best at it by ten strokes yesterday for you know, a record fifty nine.
00:33:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, and I mean it's to go on. The record on peak go over is minus one fifty six. So there, the odds are weighted heavy that he'll shoot over sixty seven and a half. They're basically saying he's gonna shoot sixty eight because under sixty seven and a half is plus one fifteen. You know, we'll see what he shoots today. Sixty eight though, I mean I think if you asked him, you know, that's that's whatever four under. So I mean I think he'll be sitting in the clubhouse. I think he'd sit in the clubhouse at eighteen under par. Yeah, going to the final round, yeah, right, And.
00:33:41
Speaker 3: And you know, I mean he's he's the name atop the leader board. There's there are some great players in this field. Scotti Schffler playing in the three I'm Open for the first time ever. He is through three today, he is won over. He is six under for the tournament, puts him tied for forty third.
00:33:55
Speaker 4: He just bogied the third hole of the day. Tom Kim just won.
00:33:58
Speaker 3: A couple of weeks ago, you talked about Ryan Fox vaulting up the international standings for the President's Cup at Madina here in a couple months. Obviously, Tom Kim just did that. He's in this field. He was one of our listener picks.
00:34:10
Speaker 5: For an interesting situation, right. I'm not one hundred percent familiar with it, but I believe Tom Kim. Even though he's vaulted up the rankings and Presidence Cup, I think his exemption is out up after this year and he's outside the number and he needs to play really well down the stretch here to keep his card on the keep up.
00:34:32
Speaker 3: Winning the Genesis Scottish Open helps out, gets you, you know, with a with a win on a co sanctioned tour helps out and gets you gets you some time with a card. But yeah, I mean Tom Tom Kim, you know was is you know is obviously he's right there with Scotty tied for forty third. Gary Woodland, another former major winner, Team truing guy, he's even today just teed off. He is seven undertied for twenty ninth. You know, fan favorite Joel Damon is part of a huge group as you know with it at seven under as well, You've got you know Decky is right there at nine under. He's two under today through three he is tied for eleven. There's a handful and the player Brian Harmon is part of that nine under. He hasn't teed off yet though, Billy Hoe nine under as well, So there's there's some players chasing Michael Kim but as you mentioned, a three stroke lead going into the weekend, hasn't teed off yet.
00:35:23
Speaker 2: And then you know there's another fun player on the on the the made the cut. He's making making his PGA Tour debut. He's actually a sponsor exemption spot and he used to play competitive hockey as a goalie, and he shot sixty three yesterday which is still obviously the second lowest round of that event. That day. But he's tied for forty third right now. His name is Muzzy Donna Hugh, and I don't know, I thought that was a pretty cool story. He's a local Twin City sponsor exemption. Tied for forty three. He shot a sixty three yesterday.
00:35:54
Speaker 5: Brought out some hockey jerseys.
00:35:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, so shout out to Muzzy.
00:35:58
Speaker 5: The player I'm keeping an eye on. And I took him in my head to head with with Eric Cohen this week, which are he won because Cohen's a guy missed cut. But anyway, nothing.
00:36:11
Speaker 4: I love your weekly bet with sports Line Early Wedge.
00:36:15
Speaker 5: But you know, national college national champion just turned pro playing for Status Jackson Covin. Right, he's tied for six. He went sixty four to sixty eight. You know, I mean I think he was playing for Virginia in you know, in May he was winning a national championship out in La Costa. And now he's tied for six, the three of them open. He's been playing very well, Auburn, Auburn. He was either Virginia Auburn, I know, one of those orange and blue ones. But yeah, that's uh.
00:36:47
Speaker 4: I like Jackson, I do the same thing. I'm very much a visual person.
00:36:51
Speaker 5: You know. And then you got Ben Coles in there too, So yeah, it's it's a it's a decent leader board of decent players that you know for what is pretty much considered it off week.
00:37:03
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:37:03
Speaker 3: I mean this is as we look at and we've talked about this with Rex for months now in terms of the future of the PGA Tour, this is one of those you start looking at the legend and you go, all right, look, TBC Scott still probably gonna make it into the Championship Tour, the A Flight if you will, TBC Twins Cities, Yeah, not so much. This is one of those tournaments where you automatically look at and you go, in a couple of years, this is going to be a Challenger Series event.
00:37:30
Speaker 2: Another event for us and other guys to make some money.
00:37:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. We gotta get to a break. But next week the Rocket mortgage one. That's another way we have a really great feel. But they've already announced they're not. The Rocket's done yep. So last next week is the is the final.
00:37:45
Speaker 2: Finale of that?
00:37:46
Speaker 4: Well, does that mean that my mortgage is written off then too? Because I do have a mortgage with Rocket. Yeah.
00:37:51
Speaker 2: I mean if they've been okay, that's great, that's great.
00:37:54
Speaker 4: That's what my much news for me.
00:37:56
Speaker 2: The three IM Open, we did some leaderboard recap. It is in round three happening in Twin Cities with Michael Kim at the top of that leaderboard. When we come back, we have to take a quick break, but we need to do a little Truan Spotlight. We also should look at our senior and women's leaderboards as well. Miranda, we'll be back in just a moment. You're listening to back's been the Golf.
00:38:17
Speaker 1: Show, World class courses, championship conditions, unforgettable experiences. Welcome to the Truon Spotlight, presented by Truon goolf az dot com, your gateway to the very best of Arizona golf.
00:38:39
Speaker 2: Thanks for listening. Backs in the Golf Show. Corey here Bauer Brady in studio. Missing Andrew this morning. He's playing daddy duty. But we get to talk a little bit about our Truan family right now. And this week we're highlighting Power Ranch Golf Club, a gem in the heart of Gilbert, Truan affiliated course and a proud member of the Thompson Golf Group family. Obviously, it's set against the backdrop of the Gilbert vibrant master community. This community is absolutely stunning. It delivers this classic arison, a golf experience with wide, welcoming fairways. I've never played there. Have you played there, Brady?
00:39:17
Speaker 5: I have played there once, and it's uh, you know, it's a it's a great location down there in the East Valley. You know when you arrived there, I think the one thing you notice about Power Ranches there's just an incredible amount of attention to detail. Obviously, great service, well maintained conditions, and the layoffs fun I mean, and then they have they have a restaurant there called Slate Great nineteenth toll. Yeah, it's a great nineteenth Yeah.
00:39:46
Speaker 4: My buddy said, I played at that. I think we spend as much time there as we did on the course.
00:39:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's you know, they had a good day. It's a pretty cool setting, laid back atmosphere. You know, it's you know, it's it's a fun deal. You know. Now you've seen recently Power Ranch in the news.
00:40:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to ask you about that. With the Thompson Golf Group. I've seen some news recently.
00:40:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, they sold along with Dove Valley Ranch and Longbow Power Ranch, those three courses were acquired by the Walden Group. It's a you know, it's a move that kind of in the Arizona golf you know scene, You're like, man, you don't see three courses just change hands that that that often. So it's kind of a cool deal. But you know, it continued. Thompson Golf Group is still involved and they're still operating all three courses, and there's a true the trend relationship stays stays in place with that acquisition, so you still have all the access premium and premium plus you know benefits. So you know, I think it's just going to be a great exciting time for those three properties because you know, when the new group comes in, they have a new fresh set of eyes, they want to do different things and and usually those things are going to make it better, right and Power Ranch has always been that fun. You know, it's a little bit more value driven. You know, it's the location's awesome, so you know you can always get out there and you're still going to have that great cool service experience. There's nothing's gonna fall off there if anything's just going to be enhanced with the.
00:41:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say Power Ranch has a power.
00:41:22
Speaker 4: Team behind them, that's right.
00:41:24
Speaker 2: You know, they just expanded their family with obviously Thompson were obviously Thompson Groups still operating those three facilities and still being a TRUAN affiliate and now just with an acquisition with Walden Group, so they're the power Team grew even more. And that's really cool that they still offer that true and Premium access and preferred rates all summer long at all of those facilities, not just all the Truan but also those TRUAN affiliate courses.
00:41:52
Speaker 3: You know, and Brady were talking about the Walden Group, they already have three Arizona courses down in southern Arizona, Tucson, and then just south of Tucson in Green Valley, you know, kind of on the way down to two BAC where we went out last year. So they're expanding their Arizona footprint in terms of the Walden Group and True and still part of that. And you mentioned access, Premium Access, Premium Plus. If you are not a member yet, you can use the promo code Backspin fifty. You're gonna get fifty dollars off at Golf with Access dot Com.
00:42:19
Speaker 4: Sign up for that, you're gonna be able to get preferred rates.
00:42:22
Speaker 3: And still this summer, I mean, now's a great time to get in and get on that because through the end of August you could take take three buddies with you, so you can get a foursome all of four players at your member premium rate. And again it's golf with Access dot Com.
00:42:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, Access Premium and Premium Plus is kind of like a subscription service. It's like it's like getting Netflix. Okay, it's for you and if you if you wanted to, if I wanted to play with you, Corey, you gotta get your subscription, right. But through the end of August, I can share my Netflix account with three frames of mind and any day I could use that way, right, So that's kind of the best. That's an analogy to look to to use here is that you know you're they're not they're not restricting you, like like Netflix and Apple TV are to not let your friends use your codes or your logins. Uh So through the end of August, yeah, you can have you can bring up the three guests on your on your premium of premium.
00:43:22
Speaker 2: Plus acounts, So we're encouraging you to visit Power Ranch. What sets it apart obviously location the value. It's a fun environment. From the moment you arrive, you notice that the attention to detail will keep golfers coming back. Friendly service, well maintained conditions, and the layout makes you want to play there again. So if you want to visit Power Ranch, you can obviously access it through Premium Access or Premium Plus treamgolfasy dot trimolfasy dot com, and you can book your round at Power Ranch.
00:43:52
Speaker 5: There you go.
00:43:53
Speaker 3: And I think I played there with some friends last year or a couple of years ago, right after they had Redone, a whole bunch of you know the course, and man it was it was one of those for me. I live north central Phoenix and there are courses that I go and I'm like, this was not worth the drive.
00:44:09
Speaker 4: Power Ranch absolutely worth it. I was like, we had a great time out there.
00:44:12
Speaker 3: Like I said, I think I think we spent as much time at the nineteenth hole as we did out on the course.
00:44:16
Speaker 5: But we have a time. Fun golf course, play pretty wide fairways, there's some water features out there. I mean, it's a memorable round. You know, sometimes you play places and you know you're like, okay, what hole was that? I mean, you remember you remember your round a power ranch. It's pretty cool.
00:44:31
Speaker 2: All right, Well, we didn't really get a chance to talk about our Scotland players right now. Maybe we could recap. We have a few minutes before week.
00:44:39
Speaker 5: Which one?
00:44:40
Speaker 2: There's multiple?
00:44:42
Speaker 4: You want the old dudes or the or the young ladies?
00:44:44
Speaker 5: Handa? Which one?
00:44:46
Speaker 2: I like the ladies?
00:44:47
Speaker 5: However, the ISPs Handa is sponsoring two events right now. They're sponsoring the LPGA Scottish Open. They're also sponsoring them the the Champions Tour, the Senior Open Championship. So the both going on right now. Which one you want to get in?
00:45:01
Speaker 2: Jenny Shen?
00:45:02
Speaker 5: Jenny Shen, all right.
00:45:03
Speaker 4: We're going there. Ladies first makes sense?
00:45:06
Speaker 5: But but who's in second?
00:45:09
Speaker 2: Hold on, I have another screen?
00:45:10
Speaker 1: It is.
00:45:13
Speaker 5: Can you say?
00:45:13
Speaker 4: Buffering? Buffering? Buffering? Buffering?
00:45:17
Speaker 2: But actually I looked up because I feel like I've met her before and I thought that she had a nickname, and she does. It's Miao pa Cat. I call her a no, she's like known as the cat, so meow, which is a tie.
00:45:30
Speaker 5: We're talking about I'm gonna try it.
00:45:32
Speaker 2: I looked up the pronunciation I'm gonna try I'm gonna try it.
00:45:35
Speaker 5: I'm gonna try it. I'm gonna try it. In second place at seven hundred par five, back of Jenny Shin, we have from Thailand Parjurie on a Koran parn On on a kup perfect.
00:45:49

We're getting ready for our golf gaming one O one. We had an excellent first hour with recapping what happened at the Open and then obviously celebrating Michael Kem in his fifty nine and me trying to not butcher an LPGA player's name.
00:47:12
Speaker 5: So I did it for you.
00:47:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you very much.
00:47:15
Speaker 5: I'm happy to do that for you.
00:47:16
Speaker 1: It was.
00:47:16
Speaker 4: It was a very good, very good try. Pajurie Nana Rukharn.
00:47:21
Speaker 5: There you go. That's why you're the journalist.
00:47:23
Speaker 4: I just I just googled the fonetic spelling.
00:47:26
Speaker 2: Such a good reader today. I can read, you can read tweets and you can read. That was so much fun. We had storytime with Bauer. If you miss out, you got to go back because it was.
00:47:34
Speaker 4: I can do it again.
00:47:36
Speaker 2: That was a lot, but okay, we can send the clip out if you miss That was a great recap.
00:47:41
Speaker 3: I just narrated Michael Kim's play by play of his fifty nine from yesterday, which is amazing that he took us inside that round and shared his thoughts and hats off to him.
00:47:52
Speaker 4: Kudos to him.
00:47:53
Speaker 3: He gets all of the flowers that Bryson de Shambo did not get last week.
00:47:58
Speaker 2: We have a second hour coming up where we still need to talk about a couple of our other leaderboards and what's going on in the other worlds of golf other than PGA Tour. We're gonna do yeah, just some you know.
00:48:10
Speaker 3: Thing that's still a thing, totally still we're gonna talk about. Yeah, we'll get into that next segment.
00:48:15
Speaker 2: We will have Golf Gaming one O one here in just a minute, and then later on we will uh do a beat the Pro. We'll have our questions later on.
00:48:26
Speaker 1: It's time for Golf Gaming presented by Golf Club with Backspin's very own Wizard of Ox coach Brady Wilson.
00:48:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, your kids are better singers.
00:48:43
Speaker 2: We should get your son for recording intro.
00:48:46
Speaker 5: Some people to have it.
00:48:50
Speaker 2: Some people, Hey, should Cam have sung that on the airplane to Fox. I mean he made a lot of money.
00:49:00
Speaker 5: You know, we got a nice second place check.
00:49:02
Speaker 2: But overall earnings Hekim came to second now in the rankings for the monies.
00:49:07
Speaker 5: There you go. Hey, we had a decent week last week, you know, and the pre tournament picks. We were you know, we had some lot of red on the card, unfortunately, but you know we did. We talked last week about not to get to the World Cup right away, but you know, to kind of. But I had given out Spain before the tournament started, and we had this whole discussion about should we hedge it, should I put it bed in on Argentina. I said, well, that's only if you think Argentina has a chance to win. At about the ninety fifth minute when they were going to extra time, I was like, hmm, probably should have hedged it. But then there was a red card. Argentans playing ten men down. They hadn't had a shot on goal. MESSI hadn't touched the ball. It still felt pretty good about it. Andrew and I were actually on on a golf course playing together. Andrew's like, how are you feeling. I'm like, I still feel pretty good.
00:50:06
Speaker 4: Now.
00:50:07
Speaker 5: Had it gone to penalties, that would have been a tough deal because I think Argentina has a better record in penalties. But Spain gets the gets the goal, and we hedged. We didn't hedge it. We doubled down, we wrote our we let it ride, and so that helped us with our units.
00:50:23
Speaker 2: Corey, I was thinking about you watching the game. I understood what you needed.
00:50:27
Speaker 5: And apparently you weren't getting text because about about because Andrew and I finished up playing. It was was in regular time, so the drive home from the golf course, I had YouTube TV up on my in my car listening while I was driving, not watching, and sure and uh when Spain scored, I just get a text from Andrew it says, so yeah, we came out a little bit ahead on units there because we had the plus four fifties, which was nice overall for the week last week, Open Week twenty three and twenty four, so kind of right there in the middle. But Best Bets, which we give out on the show again did okay, right, so we again we held held strong there with Tommy Fleetwood and Loud de Goldberg and Cam Young and England. You know we did, we did, We did just fine. So Best Bets seemed like it was in a good spot, so it felt pretty good about that. England to win the third place game, which they did, Spain to lift the cup gave that out as a double down that one. And of course Kitlyn Clark with the fever always a good bet when we had Huff on the show to tie into that. So getting into this week the three M Open, and I kind of want to spend a little time talking about how I broke down this week. Obviously, I still looked at the statistics for for TPC twin cities strokes gained off the tee strokes gained on approach most there's a lot of a lot of one hundred to one hundred and ninety yard, Like the par threes are all in that range, and then that's about what the second shots are all going to be. When you were breaking down Michael Kim's deal, he was like, I had one hundred and fifty. I had a gap wedge in my hand one hundred and fifteen. So that one hundred to one hundred and ninety range for approach shots. Who's the most accurate in that range? Will put that into the algorithm. Scrambling, getting up and down, putting from six to fifteen feet put that in there. And I also put in there players that did not play or missed cut at the Open. I gave them extra points in my algorithm because if they missed the cut, they were able to get on a plane and to get to Minneapolis a little bit earlier, which Michael Kim did, or if they didn't play like Jackson Covin who didn't have enough points to go play in the Open Championship just turned pro college player.
00:52:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's some different names on the leaderboard that maybe you were.
00:52:46
Speaker 5: Looking at, so factor that all in still feel pretty you know now you you had mentioned it in the break Scotty Scheffler, right So, where's Scotti Scheffler on the leaderboard right now? I gave him out top five to begin to begin the week.
00:53:00
Speaker 3: Well, Scotty Scheffler playing in the three M Open for the first time ever, and he was a guy that obviously going in was the odds on favorite. He was also our pros pick and beat the pro coming up later this hour.
00:53:12
Speaker 4: Scotti Sheffler right now.
00:53:13
Speaker 3: Tied for thirty second, uh and he is even through five seven under overall. So but even through five on the day today after going sixty five to seventy in the first two days.
00:53:25
Speaker 5: So there's not a lot of value in Scotty Shffle right now. And this is kind of what the gaming one on one I kind of want to break us down for you. Okay, what's he's tied for thirty tied for thirty eight. There's a bunch of players talk at thirty eight. He's tied for thirty eight right now, What do you think his odds are to finish in the top five, and what do you think his odds are to finish in the top ten.
00:53:44
Speaker 3: Well, I can see right now on the pgatour dot com leaderboard that he is plus fifteen hundred to win it, which is surrounded by a plus thirty five thousand and a plus twenty five thousand. So Scotty not getting great. I mean probably for him to finish top thirty eight right now on the course through five, for him to finish top twenty might be somewhere around even money.
00:54:08
Speaker 4: I'm guessing.
00:54:09
Speaker 5: Well, I don't have top twenty. I have top five and top ten, okay, top ten. I gave him out to start before the week started. I gave him out the top five, right and that was minus one fifty four right now, right now, if you bet him live to finish in the top five, where he's in thirty eighth place, thirty eighth place is plus one twenty six, which is not great odds. And he's and he's minus two to twenty five. You finish in the top ten, Okay, So now.
00:54:38
Speaker 4: He's only three strokes off of the top five.
00:54:40
Speaker 5: Who's also in thirty eighth Man.
00:54:43
Speaker 3: There's a bunch of there's a bunch of bums in thirty eighth, But your boy mckid's chose Tom Kim, ok Jordan Smith, Jimmy Stanger, Kevin Roy, Kevin Man.
00:54:52
Speaker 4: There's a lot of Kevin's, Kevin Kevintman.
00:54:55
Speaker 5: Tom Kim and Tom Tom Kim and Kevin Roy right now tied with Sky Scheffler on the leader board.
00:55:01
Speaker 4: Yes, okay, different places on the course, but yes, so for.
00:55:04
Speaker 5: Tom Kim to finish in the top five plus sixteen hundred, for him, for him to finish in the top ten plus four to twenty five.
00:55:11
Speaker 4: And this is a guy that just won a tournament two weeks ago.
00:55:13
Speaker 5: Correct, So that I mean the difference in those two players, and they actually played together at University of Texas, the difference in those two players is not as significant as it is on the sports book right now. And that's when Scotti Scheffler being popular. Scotty Scheffler's reputation, Scotty Scheffer the best player in the world. Tom Kim once two weeks ago, has a win since Scotti Scheffler's won. I mean, but the variants in those two and those odds, they're in the same spot. They're in the same place.
00:55:44
Speaker 3: Scotty Scheffler hasn't won in six months, Tom Kim hasn't won in two weeks.
00:55:48
Speaker 5: So that's kind of the gaming one on one breakdown, Like right now, Scotty Scheffler in this field, because it's not as strong a field and there's not as many he is not a great bet because of you, because of value. It doesn't mean the Scotty Schffler's not gonna play well. It doesn't mean he's not gonna fish in the top ten. It just means that there's a lot of money out there. There's probably a lot of public money because people know Scotty Schffler. Maybe they don't follow golf as closed, so they don't know who Tom Kim or Kevin Roy is.
00:56:14
Speaker 4: Maybe they're getting offered a Scotty Scheffler boost.
00:56:16
Speaker 5: But you know, it's it's interesting that that that's u kind of where that's going.
00:56:22
Speaker 3: I mean, so, so would you say right now, just generally speaking, without even looking at golf without going into any of the numbers you just broke out in terms of where they're on the course, and that Scotty Scheffler isn't a great bet right now because he's overvalued because of his name.
00:56:36
Speaker 5: He's overvalued because of his name. He's overvalued because of the public money that goes in on him. If a let's just call it a casual golf gambler is going in, he's probably gonna bet on Scotti Scheffler, Yeah, right, And so it's kind of like the Dallas Cowboys. I was just going to say that, like everybody like.
00:56:53
Speaker 3: So, Cowboys, Raiders and Packers always get like an extra halfpoint from all the Jove's bid so and the books.
00:57:00
Speaker 5: If they have a lot of money coming in on Scotty Scheffler on one side, are going to move the odds in their favor to balance out the sheet, right, And that's kind of how sports books work, if you know the back side of it. So it's just a little bit of a breakdown, you know. And and this is the reality. And I'm not saying the sky Scheffler is a bad golfer. I'm not saying that he's having a bad year. He's not. He's having a good year. I think there's a lot of negative press out there about him that you know, what's wrong with sky Chef. Nothing's wrong with Sky However, he's not a great bet right now because he's not playing up or performing to the level that the sports books are setting him out, if that makes sense.
00:57:41
Speaker 4: He just burdied by the way, just while you're saying that he's not one. So everything I just said, he just got a bird on six.
00:57:47
Speaker 5: So everything I said is just yes, well.
00:57:49
Speaker 2: They're going over long term, long term delivery, and right now he hasn't been doing so.
00:57:56
Speaker 5: All that being said, back to where we set with Instagram this week when we give out our pre term of picks, and we gave him out for all the tours that are playing this week. You know, we did give out Scotty top five, but Tom Kim top thirty, Jackson Covun top thirty, Keith Mitchell top forty, Jordan Smith top forty, Christian Bozaiden who top forty. You're welcome, Thank you. Ben Cole's top forty. These are all players that are still in the mix that I'm anxious to see how we finished the week out to make the cut. I did something, you know, my my internal battle with Taylor Pendrith. I think at this point we need to get Taylor Pendrith on the show. I needed to have some success with Taylor pendri So I did bet him to make the cut, which he did.
00:58:37
Speaker 4: Not a lot Taylor.
00:58:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's red on the part. Thanks again, Taylor gave you a chance to make me some money by making the cut. He was minus one fifty eight to make the cut. He missed the cut. I also faded him. I took Danny McCarthy versus him in a head to head matchup, and because Pendrith miss a cut and Danny McCarthy made the cut, I won that bet. So I have won some money off Taylor Pendrith for the first time. It's like the second or third time ever. But so that that's kind of good. The Handa Senior Open, they really didn't have top five's top tens. They just had to wins. I gave out Zach Johnson and Stewart Sink. Zack Johnson's in fourth, Stuart sinks a little further down the leader board. I don't know if Zach is going to make a weekend run. But we'll see Paps playing really well by the way in that one, and then we're gonna talk.
00:59:23
Speaker 4: Now that he's eligible, he's back in good graces.
00:59:25
Speaker 5: With Now, if you go to the IPS Handle Women's Open, Nellie Coda top five, that's probably not gonna happen. Uh, Lottie Woade, she's playing, okay, Charlie holl We didn't really get into that. Charlie Hole made the cut after making a nine and Chad Mum had a great thing on his uh you know, inflated index handicap er. Yeah, podcast, someone called it an a d green is what she.
01:00:00
Speaker 4: Off the green?
01:00:00
Speaker 5: She putted off the green. She had a birdie putt from like seven feet yep, putted a terrible hole location yep. For setup, She putted it past it, rolled off the green. Then she couldn't get it back up. She wind up wind up making a nine on a hole where she had a birdie putt.
01:00:17
Speaker 3: Uh.
01:00:17
Speaker 5: And there was a lot of conversation of the terminologation was so difficult when she put off the green, should she have taken it unplayable and.
01:00:24
Speaker 4: Reputted it, which it's possibility.
01:00:27
Speaker 5: You know, I mean in hindsight maybe, but.
01:00:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, hindsight the niner.
01:00:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, so, uh, you know, anyway, But and then in the live world, and we'll get into that a little bit next week. But John Ram's not playing well this week for his standard, so he's not going to make top five. But Torell hatton top ten, David Pooge, Tom mckibbon, Jose Luise Bias Stare, and Carlos Ortiz all right there within that top twenty. Carlos of Tees probably gonna make make the top twenty no matter what. But and then Burmester and Grace did the little Battle of South Africa head to head matchup, and Burmester has a three stroke league going into tomorrow, So feel pretty good about where Burmester and and the live bets are. And then you know, we give out some soccer bets because the World Cup's gone, everyone's having some soccer joneses and did okay there and gave out an athletics d becks bet for you because it's your birthday week power.
01:01:20
Speaker 3: Oh thank you. Hopefully you bet on the d bets. I just one of the hottest teams in baseball one nine of eleven.
01:01:24
Speaker 4: Let's go.
01:01:24
Speaker 5: I just took the over on nine runs against the A's on Wednesday over nine and the d Becks scored fifteen. Yeah, so it worked out great. Okay, all right, now let's get into best best this week, folcusing in on the three m open. Ben Cole's top five right now. You can get him at MIUS one O five. Feel pretty good about that. Jackson koy Voon and Emiliano Griro top ten, they're both well inside the top ten right now. Just to finish in the top ten, you parlay them together. You can get that at plus money and one eleven, like a little two guy parlay there if they both play well. Daty McCarthy to top twenty obviously are he wants some money on Denny McCarthy this week because he beat Taylor Pendrick. Thank you for that, Denny. I think we'll just keep going with that. Gary Woodland truon guy playing really solid this week in one of the bigger names in the field, so I like him the top twenty. And then a little further down the leader board player to keep an eye on. And this is the over under on the round scores that we were talking about earlier. Remember I was looking at the over under for what it would be for Michael Kim, and it just feels like the books pegged it. But billy Hoe under sixty eight and a half, I feel like it's kind of a par sixty eight golf course. I feel like Billy Hoe's gonna make berdie on one of the other fourteen holes. There's not a lot of bogies out there. So I like billy Hoe under sixty eight and a half. Round three that's minus went eighteen.
01:02:43
Speaker 3: Sixty seven sixty six going into the weekend for him. Billy Hoe going sixty seven sixty six, he's even through one.
01:02:51
Speaker 4: He just eat off.
01:02:51
Speaker 1: Now.
01:02:51
Speaker 5: I do feel like since the World Cup wrapped up, we still do have some soccer in us, and then we're gonna go celebrate after this week.
01:02:59
Speaker 4: Half to well and after I have to care about soccer again. I thought I had four years of vacation. So my bonus picks, I have a couple of things for you. But we are going to celebrate your birthday tomorrow. For birthdays tomorrow, we're gonna go celebrate it.
01:03:10
Speaker 5: Today. We're gonna do a little baseball thing in your d Backs guy. So I do like the d Backs plus one and a half rounds that runs today versus the Nationals, so they can even lose by one and we still win. But for the soccer bets, Racing Louisville plus one and a half goals versus Angel City FC.
01:03:27
Speaker 4: Did you just make these things up? No, it is that.
01:03:29
Speaker 5: That is the That is the women's professional soccer league in the US right now, So hey, get some eyes on, get some eyes Next year is the Women's World Cup, so we got to get familiar with some of our players for Team USA women's national team. Uh, there's some good players in that in that game, and I like Racing Louisville there plus I like Bourbons, so Louisville trail plus one and a half goals.
01:03:51
Speaker 4: And then the Vangus still next year, by the way, for the World Cup.
01:03:54
Speaker 5: Then Vancouver white Caps. I don't know the names, but I know Burhalter who was playing for the white Caps. He played on the men's national team. He just transferred over to go play overseas in England. And then they brought in two studs that just finished the World World Cup. So I think the Vancouver White white Caps they freed up the burhol their money to bring in these other guys. That are really good. I like them minus one fifteen versus Minnesota United. So there you go. There's your there's your best bets gaming picks for.
01:04:20
Speaker 3: The Steve Nash's team. Steve Nash one of the owners of the Vancouver white Caps.
01:04:24
Speaker 5: That's right.
01:04:25
Speaker 4: And the crowd, the South African Canadian Steve Nash, they're.
01:04:28
Speaker 5: They're if you follow that world a little bit, they're like, seriously probably going to get relocated out of Vancouver.
01:04:38
Speaker 3: So I've heard, Yeah, there's a whole like save the Caps, you know, yeah, marches on.
01:04:43
Speaker 4: The on the BC, you know, Thunderbilm.
01:04:46
Speaker 5: Then and the not to get into the weeds. But the other thing is they are one of the few teams in the MLS to actually have dual league membership. They also play. They played twice as many games and obviously they're playing their their backups and they're a lot more they're playing, you know, they're playing depth split squad. If you go to spring training games, they're kind of some of that because they are dual members. They're they're they're in the MLS. They play in the Major League Soccer, which is in the United States, but they also play in the Canadian Professional Soccer League and they're leading the Canadian Soccer League, so they could win two league cups at the same time if they get gone.
01:05:25
Speaker 4: And then and then relocate and relocate.
01:05:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, there you go.
01:05:29
Speaker 2: Hey, you have your friendly competition with your.
01:05:33
Speaker 5: Eric Cohen with AIR.
01:05:34
Speaker 4: I mean it's not that friendly. They have have money on that every week.
01:05:36
Speaker 2: Okay, so it's intense. You've mentioned before that you guys are not allowed to pick like the same player again, does not like when you're so when you're telling our listeners about the bets that you're picking and what you should pick like, but then you sometimes you can't do what you're suggesting because you've are you just straight up picking a winner with Eric.
01:06:01
Speaker 5: And it's a season long deal, right we start we formulated the rules over cocktails in the low suite at Waste Management, so we missed the first couple of weeks. We started the next week and whatever whatever player, he picks a player and I pick a player whoever loses the week before guests to pick first. So they have to be close in the odds in the pre tournament odds, and we try to be around thirty to one, okay, but you know, like for the majors. He took Scottie, I took Rory right, So like you kind of get into that whole deal. But once you pick a player, you can't pick that player again the rest of the season. So like I picked Fitzpatrick at one tournament.
01:06:42
Speaker 4: Which one which is Patrick? Matt okay? And I wasn't ask you which tournament which hits.
01:06:48
Speaker 5: And Matt one? But I can't use him again. But he can use.
01:06:54
Speaker 4: Matt X.
01:06:57
Speaker 5: And we actually track it on an app and everything, so he knows how many players he's used. I know how many players I've used, and so yeah, it gets down. Like the first thing I do every week is I I go in and I look at the odds, and then I look at my and then I set up my algorithm and bet the number for my stats, and I look at my model and I see who's then I literally cross off ones I can't pish. And that's why I like Jackson Covid this week, because you know.
01:07:23
Speaker 2: That's kind of cool. It's having you looking at I had deeper in the field that you wouldn't normally look at.
01:07:28
Speaker 5: The Other guy I really liked this week was was Ben Coles, But I thought Ben Coles. I might still use him later in the year, and so I haven't used him yet and I'll probably look for him again. But those two, those two were second and fourth on my model, and they're both in the top ten. So I feel pretty good about how the model was set up this week.
01:07:49
Speaker 2: And then you started doing a new thing a couple of weeks ago where after the show you post what you give out as best bets on the show.
01:07:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, I posted on Instagram and Twitter because the gaming world lives a little bit more in Twitter than in Instagram, so we put it out in both areas so you can follow it there and you know, and then we you know, it goes out through my personal Twitter, which is b Wilson Underscore Coach, and then we repost it with Backspin.
01:08:16
Speaker 2: Nice and Backspin Golf Show on Instagram.
01:08:18
Speaker 5: So yep.
01:08:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, you can see everything and recap everything he just told you. If you're looking to get something in today or tomorrow or before the events take place, that's right. Are those best bets? Most of them have to be in today.
01:08:30
Speaker 5: Yeah. Best bets are pretty much live bets today. Yeah. Yeah, And there's a boost for live bets right now on DraftKings. By the way, so if I get if I tell you to take one bet, I would take Ben Cole's top five.
01:08:42
Speaker 4: All right, that is I'm going to use my boot. Thank you.
01:08:45
Speaker 5: There you go.
01:08:46
Speaker 2: All right, thank you for that golf gaming expert, you're the best, Brady, and lots of green on those If you're following along, we're.
01:08:55
Speaker 5: Gonna break down some live Yeah.
01:08:56
Speaker 3: You know, speaking of lots of green, there's gonna be some green disappearing on live, I think, yeah, oh yeah, different, different kind of green. Well maybe not money, yeah, some of that just.
01:09:06
Speaker 4: Don't have it.
01:09:08
Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna break with Brady's singing us out to the commercial. I'm just kidding. We're gonna take a really quick break. You're listening.
01:09:14
Speaker 4: The back's in.
01:09:15
Speaker 2: The Golf show will be back in just a moment. Not to be confused.
01:09:18
Speaker 1: Closing time.
01:09:21
Speaker 2: Not to be confused the closing time for the show. It's not our closing time.
01:09:25
Speaker 5: It lives closing its doors. Yeah, I think the writing is.
01:09:29
Speaker 4: There actually playing a tournament, Brady, give them credit. They are count there. They're playing golf on of course.
01:09:35
Speaker 5: Well let's break it down for the first time.
01:09:37
Speaker 3: By the way, in forty eight days, the first time that Live Golf has had a tournament in forty eight days since they were in Unoluthia.
01:09:44
Speaker 5: Banya. Well, yeah, and Lucas Herbert, who played well last week at the Open, is you know he's down with his third round. They're over in England. H He's got a three stroke lead. He's twenty under par over Bryson d Schambeau not stomping down grass and they're.
01:10:00
Speaker 4: Not threatening to call the president.
01:10:02
Speaker 5: Tell Hatten's in third at fifteen under five back. So yeah, we can get the whole breakdown if you want. But I think the news this week that came out about Live is telling obviously early.
01:10:13
Speaker 4: So once again we're talking about live and not the golf right.
01:10:17
Speaker 5: So earlier this year they had a New Orleans stop. It was when all the news kind of came out and they said we're going to cancel the or reschedule or postpone or and they really haven't rescheduled it, so I think at this point it's canceled. It was a thirty million dollar purse for New Orleans, okay, which is a big purse. They're playing for more money in these events than like the majors. You know, they're playing more money this week than they were last week for the Open, so total purse. So they canceled the New Orleans event. A lot of that came out that maybe the golf course wasn't in good shape for it, that you know something else, you know what, the sponsorship backed out, funding wasn't there, whatever, I don't know, So the whole thing was kind of like, okay, well, but then then the piff came out and said, hey, we're not going to continue to sponsor this and fund the tour pass this year, but we're going to sponsor it. We're going to fund it through this year. We're going to make we're going to make a commitment through this year. Now, if you follow the Live Tour at all, they have they play team golf and individual golf at every tournament. At the end of the year, they have an individual championship tournament that kind of wraps up there, and then there's one final event. It's in It's at the Saint John's Golf Course, Cardinal at Saint John's in Michigan. I've actually played it. You know, it's a good golf course. It's not a great golf course. It's a good golf course.
01:11:42
Speaker 4: It's most of the live courses are good, but not great.
01:11:44
Speaker 5: And that is their team Championship and it's the most lucrative perse that they play for all year. It's forty million and it's there. It's strictly team golf. There's no individual perse for that event. It's strictly for the team. And that's to wrap up the team. And that's them trying to, you know, really promote Legion thirteen and the Rippers and the OKAGC which just came over in Torquillo Rushers and the Korean Golf Club and you know, it's where you go out and your age goats. You're playing as your team. And they've announced this that they haven't announced that it's officially counseled, but all the players are saying it has less than a five percent chance of happening. So the situation is if that event doesn't happen and the New Orleans event doesn't get rescheduled, which are unlikely to do, and Piffs said they're done as soon as the tour is over this year. There's also that's seventy million by simple areusumath, that's seventy million in dollars that Lived Tour players thought they were going to play for at the beginning of the year, that they're not going to get to play for this.
01:12:49
Speaker 3: Year, seventy million dollars that Live has saved that they didn't that didn't go out. So the league is quote unquote saving that money by not distributing it. But this is I mean in terms of and I am no contract lawyer, but in terms of a contract, you know, if you're a player, you're probably going, all right, this is what I was expecting and this is what I'm getting.
01:13:10
Speaker 4: And those are two different things.
01:13:11
Speaker 5: You wonder if there's going to be any lawsuit around that, because that's the world we live in, right in a retigious world, when there's that kind of money. Also, two weeks ago, adding the story, sources have told Backspin that that employees of the Tour were all given the sixty day notice that said, you know, we could cease operations at the end of the at this at this date, here's your sixty day notice. That's some legal and labor jargon because they're a worldwide organization, so that kind of covers their their bases across the world that hey, if we close shop in sixty days. Here's your sixty eight. Notice that this could happen. We're still trying to find a sponsor. We're still trying to move forward. There will be some consolidation, but you know, and and you know, all these teams have like you know, the team doctor and the team travel person and the team sponsor.
01:14:06
Speaker 4: Marketing and social media and everybody.
01:14:08
Speaker 5: They're they're already consulating those down. I think there's only one team doctor, one physio now for the whole tour instead of you know, thirteen of them, right, you know, so you know, there's definitely I think we've all said that, you know, when the when the money went away, followed the money, and when PIFF goes, when Piff announces they're not going to sponsor it, who's going to step up and lose five billion a year? Because that's what they say they lose, right, So who's going to step up? So even if it continues on, it's going to be some form of it, but it's going to be a different version and probably lesser version. But this is a bad sign because this if you are trying to loose sponsors, you're like, and uh, we need forty million up front. So we can run our team championship. I don't think anyone's going to sign up for that, So I think the team championship is done. I mean the player I can't remember name, Martin Kimer, Martin Seimers. Yeah, Martin Kimer, is a less than five percent chance that they're going to have a team event.
01:15:06
Speaker 3: And he is, you know, not just a guy. He is one of the captains. He is the captain of Cleik's GC. And you know, and as we talk about, the way that Live is structured is the captains have equity in the teams as well. So this isn't just somebody. I mean, this is a US Open champion, a PGA Championship winner. Martin Kaimer saying, quote, I know that Indianapolis most most.
01:15:29
Speaker 4: Likely is happening. That's there's a lot of confidence there. Most likely.
01:15:33
Speaker 3: There was conversation yesterday, this is earlier this week that Michigan highly unlikely. So basically what we already knew. That's why I think they became a captain's meeting and not a player's meeting. He goes on to talk about that believes there's a five percent chance. There's also reporting from the Detroit News as well that there is no build out happening at the course. You mentioned Brady the course in Plymouth Township, Michigan, and you know the Cardinal is Saint John's as of Wednesday night. A Detroit News reporter spotted, no, we know their builds are huge.
01:16:07
Speaker 4: Well, the builds are huge.
01:16:08
Speaker 3: I mean just I mean, granted, nothing is as big as the sixteenth hole right just here locally. Think about how many months and months ahead of time started there. You know, the shovels go in the ground in the summer and they begin building the infrastructure for sixteen, seventeen, eighteen and so on and so forth. There's been no infrastructure build out at the Cardinal at Saint John's resort as of Wednesday night, according to the Detroit News. No hospitality suites, no stage for the post round concerts. That's a thing that live does. They have post round concerts. They need to build the stage. That has not begun yet. There's no player walking bridge. There's a there's a pond that's a signature feature of that course that they have. The players would walk across the pond as a player's bridge. They haven't started to build that yet. No signage, no you know, coming soon.
01:17:01
Speaker 4: Nothing.
01:17:02
Speaker 3: It looks like the Cardinal at Saint John's would any other week of the year without a golf tournament coming up. And so that's just you know, eyes on the physical property itself. Five weeks from now they would be hosting that event. Five weeks to build out some of these significant infrastructure elements, and there's nothing on the ground. So Martin Kimer saying less than five percent.
01:17:25
Speaker 4: You know, people in Detroit going and looking at the Okay, there's it's not happening.
01:17:30
Speaker 2: Well, not only the financial backing and the whatnot. I also found it interesting this week that it looks like they, you know, they there's been a disruption in their expansion strategy with some of the partners. Also that not even financial, but even other tour stuff with the Asian Tour, and that they've sort of frozen out some of the calendar events that they shared together.
01:17:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the PGA Tour and the DP World too.
01:17:58
Speaker 3: Essentially you cut Live out by the needs, you know, just just just just chop block them.
01:18:02
Speaker 4: To use a you know, a football term.
01:18:04
Speaker 3: But they announced a deal with the Asian Tour that was for Live that was a key partnership for them, provided them tournaments access, provided their players a pathway into majors. And now that is a PGA and DP World Tour and you know, we we talked about this a couple of months ago with the with the PGA Tour kind of reinvesting in Australia and that is honestly, that's that's the marquee event for Live has been that that event, it Live Golf Australia, that's been their marquee event, biggest crowds, I mean, camp Smith winning there. But then you had the PGA and DP World Tour reinvest into Australia as well, So they're making a couple moves there from the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour and those partnerships and with the Asian Tour partnering with them and not being Live Golf's kind of really important second tier.
01:19:01
Speaker 4: I mean, heck, you even had you know, one of the team's.
01:19:03
Speaker 3: Rebrand is as you know, as a Korean golf club specifically to cater to the Asian audience and the millions and millions of golf fans in that part of the world. They had partnered with Live before twenty twenty one. The league launched in twenty twenty two. They had the International Series, which kind of we looked at in the offseason. You know, we didn't talk about it a ton, but it was often featured live golfers.
01:19:27
Speaker 4: And so now this.
01:19:28
Speaker 3: Is going to be a you know, live list endeavor for them in terms of, you know, it's no longer pathway to guys to go on the Asian Tour and a live golfer go on the Asian Tour and end up in the Open Championship or you know, something like that. And that's another you know, from a business standpoint that okay, here's another sign that this some have called it exhibition Tour whatever whatever pejorative term you want to use for LIV. If you're not a fan, it's another nail in the coffin.
01:20:05
Speaker 2: The Asian Tour CEO said that given the circumstances now we've had to look at other options which they were providing a pathway that partnership. They offered events with larger purses for players to keep up and add to their live schedule, and now they have announced moving forward with some agreements and more partnerships with PGA and DP World.
01:20:32
Speaker 3: Turns well, and if you're live and you're going out there and you're trying to get somebody to jump on board, and you're saying, I need a sponsor.
01:20:39
Speaker 4: Give me a bunch of money.
01:20:41
Speaker 3: Being able to say we have a partnership with the Asian Tour, we have events all around the calendar that aren't part of the Live series, but we have these events that these were part of the league's proposals as it was seeking new investors. The national opens on the Asian Tool were part of those discussions. So now you have less ammo when you're going in and groveling for funds, when you're handing out, you know, hat in hand and you're begging and saying, give us money so we can stay afloat. We have lost one of our feathers in that proverbial hat that we're now handing out holding out for money.
01:21:19
Speaker 5: All right, Yeah, it's it's I think we're seeing the beginning of the end. It's closing time.
01:21:26
Speaker 4: Re wreck the song Semisidic one hit wonders.
01:21:31
Speaker 2: Yes, potentially closing time and only five percent chance of not Is that what he said?
01:21:36
Speaker 3: Yeah, So if if lives not giving out money because they're canceling an event. They've already canceled one, and it looks like Michigan's going to be canceled. Can we at least give out some money? Can we play Beat the Pro and maybe give out some money, Cory.
01:21:47
Speaker 2: We would love to give out some money. You got to pick a winner. Let's get our people to pick some winners. What is our pot at right now?
01:21:54
Speaker 3: Well, so as we're looking at Beat the Pro, we haven't had a winner in a little while. So our pot for next week's Rocket Classic, which is in Detroit, actually going to happen in Detroit, unlike what it sounds like is gonna happen in the live event. The Rocket Classic is coming up. It is a potential two one hundred dollars pot. So as long as Scotty Jackson, Suber, Tom Caman, Pearson, Cootie, those are listener picks, and the pros pick Mark and Mesa pick Scotty for the three I'm open. It's one hundred and fifty dollars this week, but it goes up to two hundred for next week and Beat the Pro as long as one of those four doesn't win, so.
01:22:30
Speaker 2: Fifty dollars goes in the pot every week you have a chance to call in eight five five two six oh ninety one ninety one. Get on our call sheet so that we can talk to you. Throw out a question. If you answer the question correctly, then you get to pick a player to win the wind Them Championship. And if your player does better than the pros pick or if it wins, then you essentially go home with the money.
01:22:55
Speaker 5: Whoo.
01:22:56
Speaker 2: But if you just do better than the pro pretty cool. You can get yourself a box of balls, which we know could be valued up to sixty bucks or so, so technically giving away money. But eight five five two six oh ninety one ninety one, you can give us a call. We still have a few phone lines open. Should we throw out a question or take a break.
01:23:15
Speaker 3: Let's let's let's go ahead and take a break. Yeah, because I don't want people googling.
01:23:18
Speaker 4: That's right.
01:23:18
Speaker 3: No, yeah, this is You're not gonna be you're gonna be cheating like Bryson. Yeah, love it, he didn't really cheat.
01:23:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, stomp in the grass. Now, we're just going to take a really quick break. We'll be back in a minute. Load up the phone lines eight five five two six oh ninety one ninety one. You're listening to Backspend the Golf Show.
01:23:32
Speaker 1: Watch and subscribe on YouTube more Backspin and moments.
01:23:36
Speaker 2: Peter listening to backs and the Golf Show. We're just, uh, you know, in the world that's crazy.
01:23:43
Speaker 5: Let's go nuts.
01:23:44
Speaker 2: There we go, There you go, Corey Mathison, here, Brady Wilson, Mike Bauer almost birth birthday, Bower almost his birthday, and have some fun today. We have some callers on the phone waiting and we do have some lines open. Five. We're going to start our beat the Pro. We're gonna throw out a question if you know the answer.
01:24:06
Speaker 5: Where's Lebron James going? Oh? Neverm I Oh Philadelphia, Philly's going to.
01:24:11
Speaker 4: The hiladelph.
01:24:14
Speaker 2: How many units did Brady win on the World Cup?
01:24:17
Speaker 5: Yeah?
01:24:17
Speaker 4: Brady? Did you have that? In a in golf gaming one one.
01:24:19
Speaker 5: You have you could bet on where Lebron is going?
01:24:22
Speaker 3: You could, and apparently Pat McAfee did after he got some inside info from Share plus seven.
01:24:28
Speaker 2: We have some questions to throw out for this week. And I made a mistake earlier. I said that you had to pick somebody for Windham. No, you have to pick somebody to win and play well in Rocket Classic, which is in Detroit next week. So that's who we're picking for. Brady does have the field pulled up. If you're not sure who's making that play making that field, We're going to throw out some questions. If you want to answer them correctly, then you get to pick a winner, and then we can add you to our foursome and we'll save one or two, depend on how much time we have left for Instagram.
01:24:58
Speaker 5: Decent field next week. Got Cam Young with them, Clark Chris got her up. See who cam Akshay Battilla got some names to pick from there.
01:25:05
Speaker 4: Our listeners cannot pick Cam Young.
01:25:07
Speaker 5: They cannot pick cannot.
01:25:08
Speaker 3: Pick Cam Young because Dean at Avedeale at the Valley Golf Center is taking Cam Young.
01:25:13
Speaker 2: All right, Bower, you worked on these questions. I know Andrew usually works as magic with them, but he's on daddy daycare today. So what do we have, Bauer.
01:25:22
Speaker 4: I've got four trivia questions. I don't know which ones. I like him.
01:25:25
Speaker 3: All right, so let's let's go off the news of the day, if you will. Michael Kim fired a sub sixty round, accomplishing a feat that has only happened sixteen times on tour by fifteen players. Only one player has done it more than once. Again, Michael Kim goes sixty nine or fifty nine. Actually he went sixty nine, fifty nine, he went fifty nine yesterday sub sixty. It's only happened sixteen times on tour by fifteen different players. Mathematically, that means that one person has done it more than once.
01:25:59
Speaker 4: Who is that? You don't have to say which tournaments, just name the person.
01:26:04
Speaker 2: All right, we will go to Rick and Chandler. Rick, you're on the air with Scott's Scott's Scott's. Taylor was reading something else. You're on the air with Backspin. Rick, do you know what player had two rounds under sixty?
01:26:21
Speaker 5: Good morning gang? Yeah, I believe that was Jim.
01:26:24
Speaker 4: Oh right out of the gate, coming firing. Let's go.
01:26:27
Speaker 5: Rick is solid.
01:26:28
Speaker 3: Rick, right off the bat. I'm gonna put you on the spot. Do you know which tournaments? Do you remember?
01:26:35
Speaker 2: Oh?
01:26:36
Speaker 3: Geez, you don't even have to get the year. Just here, I'm embarrassing Rick. Rick just got it right.
01:26:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not sure.
01:26:46
Speaker 3: So this one was fresh in my memory because he was part of the broadcast recently, as well TBC.
01:26:51
Speaker 4: River Highlands is where Jim Purick.
01:26:53
Speaker 3: Captain America Arizona Wildcat great. He shot a fifty eight in the Travelers Championship at Team you see River Islands. Also at the BMW Championship, which over the years has bounced around, he shot a fifty nine back in twenty thirteen.
01:27:07
Speaker 4: So Jim Furick Wildcat.
01:27:09
Speaker 2: Can He picked Jim Herrick for Windham.
01:27:11
Speaker 4: He should not? Okay, or the Rocket?
01:27:14
Speaker 2: No, do you have a player you might want for the Rocket Classic?
01:27:21
Speaker 4: Yeah?
01:27:21
Speaker 5: I think I'll take Chris Gotter up there you go. I like that one. It's a good pick. Good pick. Got her up man from Rutgers.
01:27:29
Speaker 4: All right, Pablo's gonna get your information off the air. Rick.
01:27:33
Speaker 3: We'll get your your email address and also put your uh, put your pick in there for Chris got her up, a right, Chris got up, Cam Young off.
01:27:43
Speaker 5: Them, Young's off the board, Chris got ups off the board, and Corey is subliminally messaging everyone to pick Windom Clark.
01:27:52
Speaker 2: I just filled it in for the next listener. We can throw another question, and we do have a couple of lines open. If if they get it wrong, then we'll keep going. Eight five five, two six, So ninety one, we're gonna go with John in Scottsdale.
01:28:06
Speaker 4: You're on with backsman, John, I gotta throw a question at you.
01:28:10
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you don't have an answer.
01:28:11
Speaker 4: That's sorry, John, John, you are You're gonna be put on the spot here fast and furious. It's coming at you.
01:28:17
Speaker 3: Four different countries are represented among the four major winners this season, marking the second time ever. It happened back in twenty ten, and it happened this year.
01:28:26
Speaker 4: Name the countries. I don't care about the players.
01:28:28
Speaker 3: Name the countries represented by the major winners this season.
01:28:36
Speaker 1: That would be uh, Great Britain.
01:28:43
Speaker 4: Britain is not a country, but nice.
01:28:45
Speaker 5: Try Great Britain not to give it to him, because I don't know how many countries are in that country.
01:28:50
Speaker 4: Yea, all of them? He just come to countries are in that country. Great Britain competes in the Olympics as a team.
01:28:59
Speaker 5: I'm gonna John that, Aaron Rye.
01:29:02
Speaker 4: I think we already hung up on him because I'm I'm playing hardball.
01:29:05
Speaker 3: Still there, all right, John, I guess they're they're way nice.
01:29:08
Speaker 5: And then John, John of the Great Britain countries, where is Aaron right from?
01:29:14
Speaker 2: Where is there?
01:29:15
Speaker 4: Right from?
01:29:18
Speaker 5: Okay, okay, so you got one. We're gonna you get your there, all right, you got three more.
01:29:23
Speaker 4: None of them are in Great Britain. By the way, Xander playing.
01:29:30
Speaker 5: No no, no, you got You're only one third of the You're only one three more answers.
01:29:35
Speaker 2: Okay, hold on, John. There were four major winners from different countries this year. What were the countries that they were from?
01:29:42
Speaker 5: So you got England with Aaron Rye, you got three more?
01:29:44
Speaker 2: You a very nice Ryan Fox is from?
01:29:49
Speaker 4: Which one is?
01:29:50
Speaker 2: Who?
01:29:51
Speaker 5: Where's Ryan Fox from?
01:29:53
Speaker 1: You guys are really helpful Foxes.
01:29:56
Speaker 4: Okay, you got to you guys are.
01:29:59
Speaker 5: Now you're getting John. I'm gonna moved on. We're not going to give you the other. So there's the Masters winner and the US Open winner. What countries are those dudes from?
01:30:10
Speaker 4: Masters in the US? Yeah, Like where were they born? What country?
01:30:16
Speaker 1: Well you're kind of breaking up, what is the who won.
01:30:19
Speaker 3: The US offen?
01:30:21
Speaker 4: Well, the US Open winner was from a country.
01:30:24
Speaker 3: He was born there, just like Aaron Ray was born in England and Ryan Fox was born in New Zealand. So the winner of the US Open was born in what country, and the winner of the Masters was born in what country?
01:30:38
Speaker 4: We're really really being nice to John here?
01:30:43
Speaker 5: Get rid of him?
01:30:46
Speaker 4: All right?
01:30:46
Speaker 2: Oh all right, awesome, Well thank you John. We'll go on to the next So he already gave you fifty to fifty.
01:30:53
Speaker 4: Away, we've got half of the answers.
01:30:56
Speaker 2: Someone else was on the line. Who jumped on there, Phoenix?
01:31:02
Speaker 5: Tom?
01:31:03
Speaker 3: Tom?
01:31:04
Speaker 5: Do you understand the question?
01:31:05
Speaker 4: Tom?
01:31:05
Speaker 5: With this a little bit? It's a four parter. You've got, you've got you've got to know who the Yes, Tom, go ahead.
01:31:12
Speaker 2: You guys were you guys were more than patient with that.
01:31:15
Speaker 3: Guys, Tom, you were from the United The other two are from the United States and Northern Ireland.
01:31:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, Tom against John. We're trying to help John out. But you got it right. So Rory McElroy won the Masters.
01:31:29
Speaker 4: Maybe we were breaking up.
01:31:30
Speaker 5: He's from Northern Ireland. Isn't that Great Britain to No, it's not Ireland in the United States.
01:31:35
Speaker 3: Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. Great Britain is the actual island.
01:31:40
Speaker 5: Several countries are in this country.
01:31:41
Speaker 2: Well, Northern Ireland is Wales and Scotland. I don't know, I don't I would have done bad at that question. Also, Tom, thank you for.
01:31:51
Speaker 5: The Rocket, Tom, Rickey Fowler, Ricky former champ of the Rocket.
01:31:59
Speaker 4: Ricky.
01:32:00
Speaker 2: He was also on the show The Hawk, which we didn't get a chance to talk about. He was also there with Will Ferrell. I enjoyed is the World's greatest Golfer. It's been a great show talking about some low scores, recapping the Open Championship. Hopefully we'll connect with our friends the Golf Channel next week.
00:45:49
Speaker 4: I think you nailed it.
00:45:51
Speaker 2: You did it. Our ladies are playing the Women's Scottish Open. The Senior Tour is also over there playing their Senior Open. We had a fun beginning recapping the Open Championship, and we're going to make a turn here with Golf Gaming one O one Here in just a little bit, Corey Matheson, Bauer Brady. We're all in the studio today and we will see you at the turn on Backspin the Golf Show.
00:46:24

00:46:46
Speaker 2: Thanks for listening to Backspin the Golf Show. Corey Matheson here in the hot seat, I am in studio with Bauer, Ace Bauer and Brady Wilson coach Brady Wilson.
Rick.

01:28:10

01:28:28
Speaker 3: Name the countries represented by the major winners this season.
