He and Bleter O'Neil will be hosting that. Not Chad, but Wells Adams. Our guest now joining Backsman of the Golf Show is Chad mom Chad, thanks so much for taking some time. Welcome back stateside from your trip overseas.
00:01:00
Speaker 3: Over the pond.
00:01:01
Speaker 4: Hey boys, how we doing? It's always nice to be on Backspen. Come on all right, chat Saturday everybody?
00:01:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, Happy Saturday, Chad.
00:01:09
Speaker 2: But before we get into it, I got to ask you it's a Saturday are you are you making your way out to the golf course. I know your daughter's playing as well. You know, just started hitting from the hundreds. What does what does this weekend look like for you?
00:01:22
Speaker 5: Ched?
00:01:23
Speaker 4: So, if you've been following along on Instagram or X, I have been on a whirlwind tour of Irish Northern Irish links golf. So I had a quick trip with three days of golf in Northern Ireland. We did Port Stewart Royal, Port Russian Royal County down and I just got back home. So I am on dad duty today. No golf for me, but I am outside watching the kids run around crazily at a park and we'll probably be back on the range with the little one tomorrow. So a good day off well deserved after an incredible Irish golf trip. I got to say Northern Island and out of ten like we have weather, but honestly I may it may, it may have seed Scotland in terms of the golf adventure of a lifetime.
00:02:07
Speaker 2: So wow, shot shots fired against the channel there, you know against not not the English channel, but shots fired over to Scotland there. How how often? How many times did you have to use your new Peter Malar rain gear?
00:02:20
Speaker 4: Honestly I did. It didn't rain on us once. It was a little gold and overcast on the first round and we had a little light drizzle, so I put it on more for the extra extra layer of heat. But but we know we had great weather the entire time. Uh, you know, we had to test out the Peter Mallar rain gear in the office, you know, before we went, but thankfully didn't need to pull it out.
00:02:42
Speaker 3: How did you test that out?
00:02:43
Speaker 2: Did you like, get the sprinklers going in the office or you just just put it on for a little fashion show.
00:02:50
Speaker 4: We have a simulator in our office in Los Angeles where we shoot the shows, and my assistant had this brilliant idea of getting a spray bottle of water and just spraying me with just absolutely doubting me while I hit balls on the simulator. So you know, I think she'd been planning that for a while. So it seems like maybe too cathartic for her. But but it was a good time, all right, Chad.
00:03:10
Speaker 2: I'm listening to the latest Vanity Index podcast. You guys had the Black Night on Gary Player. Absolutely tremendous. We encourage all of our listeners after listening to backs for the Golf Show on wherever you get your podcast, check out the Vanity Index podcast. So I want to ask you, it sounds like you're outside. Do you have any animal calls? Do you have like a bird call? Because Gary Player broke out a bird call in your Guys interview and your visit with him, and there was, you know, there's birds.
00:03:35
Speaker 3: He was like a Disney movie bird. You know, animals started flocking to him.
00:03:38
Speaker 2: Do you have any sort of like animal call or something like that that you want to start off this segment with.
00:03:44
Speaker 4: You know, I wish I did. Honestly, he ate us with like a dove on the show you and other ones that he's doing after the you know, after we wrapped up. You know, wells Is is a bit of a wing shooter himself, so we I've been lucky enough to join him at a Dove open and you know, I think that Gary really got us all excited but no, I don't have anything. You know, my usual calls are more like press and hammer, you know, things like that.
00:04:08
Speaker 2: Right, well, so I want to ask you about about something here, and you just mentioned, you know, getting excited.
00:04:14
Speaker 3: I want to ask you, Chad Mom.
00:04:15
Speaker 2: You've I just went through the huge resume, you know, and I probably just barely touched on all the things that you do when you're involved. To let me ask you this, What is Chad Mom excited about right now? I mean, you got full swing, the new season just came out, that's in your back pocket. What are you excited about right now?
00:04:30
Speaker 4: Chad? You know, I just I'm always so pumped around major season. Obviously, we got the PGA Championship next week in Irono mink, I'm gonna be out there. You know, look, listen, we're talking about great UK golf. We talked about Ireland, Northern Ireland. We talked about Scotland. Obviously some great golf in your neck of the woods, you know, the Scotts Still area. We love it there. But Philadelphia maybe pound per pound in terms of amazing kind of old golf. I am excited about next week out of it, iron I mink, I'm going to be playing a little bit of golf myself on Monday and Tuesday at quite a nice spot and then maybe trying to sneak back out over the weekend. So loving that. Very excited to get the game back into shapes coming off the Irish hangover that I'm on. And then in terms of you know, work stuff, obviously the show is rocking and rolling. I'm excited for Wells you mentioned at the top of the show, you know, shooting the Big break. He's the co host with Blere O'Neil, which I'm really excited to see that show back. I think that's gonna you know, like all these nostalgic nineties and two thousands golf projects kind of coming back as golf's popularity has exploded. And then you might have seen I'm working with Page Sperandic now and we are prepping a big project for her that's going to come out at the end of the summer. So that's probably the thing I'm most pumped about as we get to get that thing shooting and in gear.
00:05:47
Speaker 3: All right.
00:05:47
Speaker 2: So so so you're trying to slide in with Page when she's not busy with the Grass League here in Arizona. I know she's very involved here with a grass clippings in the Grass League and high stakes par three golf. You mentioned you're going to Philadelphia, can I I mean hopefully you have time, uh to to go check out Cobbs Creek, the Cobbs Creek Foundation. They're they're doing some great work over there, Tiger Woods, UH and Cobbs Creek. I know, obviously Philadelphia Cricket Club was great last year. You have you know, Ironomic, no big deal, but I mean Cobbs Creek's got some great things going on as well. You can you can always put in a phone call to our friends at Truon and they'll they'll get your set up over there at Cobbs Creek too.
00:06:21
Speaker 4: I do love, do love the Truan guys. Big fan of Tim Schantz who runs that business, and UH and Chris Strouts over there, so I know they're good supporters of you guys who love the Truan family. And and Cobbs Creek is a great program. I I one of my one of my good friends is the agent who's been really involved in that, and it's just it's nice to see, you know, something that really is giving back. I mean, we talk a lot about growing the game. Hear that a lot from the biggest players in the world, but that that kind of stuff is just exciting to see.
00:06:49
Speaker 2: All Right, I want to bring in our one of the one of the members of Baxsimth the Golf Show, Brady Wilson. Chad, just to give you a little bit of context. He's not here in studio with us today. He's up in Flagstaff. His daughter was the standard bearer for her graduation last night from Northern Arizona University. But Brady, who I know you guys connected in Augusta. He didn't want to miss. So Brady's calling in from flag Staff. So Brady, hopefully technologically this works in Brady, you can jump in here.
00:07:16
Speaker 5: My man, Chad, how are you this morning? Brady?
00:07:20
Speaker 4: What's going on? Listen? It's not Augusta, but it's nice to see you again. How we doing?
00:07:27
Speaker 5: Oh man, I'm I'm in a different I'm in a different set of pine but not in the Georgia Pines. I mean the Ponderosa Pines and flag Staff. But I you know, I couldn't I couldn't mention an opportunity to be with my guy Chad here and you know, I love Full Swing. I know it's been out for a couple of weeks, you know, that's one of those that Netflix notifies me like a week before and I put it on my calendar and then I will binge watched the whole episode as soon as it comes out. So I want to take back into there. I want to ask you about that because that this year's you know, season was so you know, there was the rory uh you know, witting completing the Grand Slam, the Career Grand Slam, as the Masters, and then it really focused in towards the Ryder Cup, and I thought it was spectacular, the behind the scenes stuff that you really got to feel Keegan Bradley's emotions. I mean, well, after you've seen the final product, obviously you live it for a year and then it comes out. But when when you see the final product, what were your like biggest takeaways and things that you're most excited about. For me, seeing Kink and Bradley make phone calls to mav mcgeely and Cameron Young and that whole thing where it was just spectacular.
00:08:40
Speaker 6: Yeah, well I really appreciate it, and you know, it's so much work goes into that show, and you know, so many of our team spend the entire year out on the road, and.
00:08:50
Speaker 4: The editors who sort through the hundreds of hours of footage. But you know, go into the season, we always wanted to do something more specifically focused around the Ryder Cups. We set up the structure of the season as about a four episode arc, kind of with this idea that we would open the show with this European dominance. You know, it's setting up the stake. Hey, can Keegan get it done? He now with the captain. You live through the experience of him getting rejected in season two. Now he's the captain. How's things? How things are? How are things going to go? For Temio tanks? And then boom out of the gate. You get Europeans winning left and right on the PGA tory. You get Victor Hobblin back in the register to get Obert winning. You get Rory obviously dominating at Pebble, Uh, you get Rory winning at Sawgrass and then obviously winning the Masters, and Justin Rose playing great. We had this idea of a comeback story and a little arc for the Americans, and Scotty kind of gets his mojo back, but this idea that the hope would come from some unexpected sources like as you mentioned, Matt Neelie, Cam Young, JJ Spawn And then we get into the question of like will he or won't he play? And that was a decision that Keegan was really you know it was it was weighing on them all season. Then obviously we get to the big show down the page and things do not go according to plan. So did I say the whole season lived up to the kind of arc we set up in our minds when we started making it, and you know, hopefully everybody's watching and enjoy it.
00:10:14
Speaker 5: Well, it was fabulous. I thought it was. I thought it was just incredibly well done. And following Ben Griffin and kind of those new guys and how much it meant to him and all that. I mean it really you really did a great job of walking us through the emotions. Now that now, the other big thing that I that I have a special place in my heart for is the Skins game. Are we running that back? And Thanksgiving?
00:10:39
Speaker 4: Well it is coming back Thanksgiving. Yeah, So Black Friday on Amazon, we are we are, you know, hot on the on the trail of the host course excited about some of these options that we have. We've been really excited about the reception of the Skins Game from year one, and you know, we're we're going to be back. We're playing the on that Black Friday, so you know we're the only live sports in town only game on TV up until the NFL kicks off right after us. So we love it. We love our partnership with Amazon. And last year, uh, you know, I think resulted in maybe my favorite meme of the whole year, which is Xander Shockley standing with a zero dollar check.
00:11:21
Speaker 5: Yes, so funny, so good.
00:11:28
Speaker 2: Chad Mum joining us on Batsman the Golf Show, Emmy winning producer of the Netflix series Full Swing. Of course as a Brady, you know the the the alarms go off and you you binge watch that as soon as it comes out.
00:11:38
Speaker 3: Skins Game.
00:11:39
Speaker 2: Happy Gilmore too, you just heard the Skins Game coming back this year on Amazon.
00:11:44
Speaker 3: I would say, get Amazon, become everybody's got it.
00:11:46
Speaker 2: So you're you're you've already got it, You're already gonna watch it on that Andrea you know you want to. Yeah, I know, I know you gave way to Brady to jump in from flag staff.
00:11:54
Speaker 3: But you got to say to chat.
00:11:55
Speaker 1: Chad Man, big fan. I love all your stuff, you know. And it's one segment or I saw it on Instagram, was when you were talking about walking up to a par three and you're looking for a broken tea? Which what tea do you specifically look for? And every time now I get on a par three, I'm like, which which tea would Chad pick? You know, I'm always like find it? This is the perfect Chad mom. Is your swing thought right right before? On a part three? Which one do I go with?
00:12:25
Speaker 5: Amazing?
00:12:27
Speaker 4: Listen, there's so many signs of a good golfer. And uh and the one that I'm I saw recently that we're going to be talking about on our next episode is is you know how you wear a glove during a round as a predictor of your handicap, which I think is going to cause a lot of conversation on the internet. And I'll just one more swing thought to you as you get out there play some golf. A total aside, by the way, one of the coolest little things about Ireland and I've never seen this before, but at royal Port Rush, you know how you play an ice course and they have you know, complimentary golf teas on the on the box, usually alongside the scorecards and penholes. At Royal Port Rush, they are skinnier and sharper than any American seas that I've ever seen. And it's because the ground's so firm, and I'm like, oh, this is I get it, Like this is obvious. You can barely get a normal golf seat in the ground over there, and so they've got like extra sharp ones. I just thought that was really cool and interesting and just a little details that make a trip like that special. Oh yeah, but hey, listen, Usually my role is no full tease on a par three. But I think if you got one of the Royal Port Rush super skinny sharp ones, I'll allow it.
00:13:31
Speaker 3: I will say.
00:13:32
Speaker 2: I mean, you guys always have great conversations like that. And in terms of glove etiquette US desert golfers, yesterday was over one hundred degrees. I feel like we are in Arizona finally turning that corner where it will be a godless hellscape for the next amount of how long, you know, three four months. But for me in terms of you know, and I'm sure you guys will talk about you know, glove in the back pocket while you're putting this, that, and the other. But in Arizona desert golf, at least as a big fat dude, I got to have more than one glove because halfway through the round you got to switch out that glove and you got to get a fresh one. So that's that's that's my golf etiquette that maybe may be offensive to some, but I do make sure that I have at least at least an extra glove that I rotate through during the round because it's so damn hot here.
00:14:17
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well, I one of my friends was flying out back from Scott Hill and headed back to Chicago. I asked him if he played in golf. Unfortunately, he was just there for quick kind of a couple of days of work and didn't get out there. But he said he was told that it was the last probably the last day in the in the eighties for the rest of the year down there. And I think you guys are that well into the high tenths now and it's run hand a summer season. You could be like Daniel Rappaport, my good friend Daniel Apperport, he's a permanent rain glove guy because his hands sweat a lot. He's he just to shoot the Cabretta leather. It just goes rain glove on the left hand, you know, permanently.
00:14:54
Speaker 2: I mean, hey, if it works, you know, I guess that's what works for your round. I will say, you know, just kind of d of you know, bringing bringing conversations like that to me is one of the things that's fun about the Vanity Endix podcast.
00:15:06
Speaker 3: And I want to compliment you.
00:15:08
Speaker 2: I mean, you guys had Gary Player on right one of the Big three Golf Hall of Famer. You know, just every golf nerd is absolutely glued to that episode. But the previous week, I'm not gonna lie, you had a guy on that I literally never heard of. I'm I'm at the gym. You guys are up on TV and you have knell Nahir from The Big Bang Theory, a TV show that I never watched, so I had no idea who that was.
00:15:32
Speaker 3: And just hats off to you.
00:15:35
Speaker 2: You guys made that a really interesting conversation that somebody like me is literally looking at the TV going, I don't even know who that guy is they're talking to. I'm googling who's on the show, and you guys had a great conversation about the four hundred club and Joe Peeshy you jumped into what's in his bag and just kind of you know, a golf sicco like that. You know, that's a TV star And so kudos to you and Wells for making you know, at least for a rube like me, a conversation with somebody I'd literally never heard of very interesting and must listen.
00:16:06
Speaker 4: I thought, well, we really appreciate that. And honestly, Kunal, you can make any any celebrity if they're a true golfer. It really comes out on our show. And I think that's been the little secret sauce that we have. And obviously he plays a nerd on television, or played a nerd on one of the biggest TV shows in you know, sitcoms and history. And the funniest part about Canal is he looks totally different as a civilian than he did on that show. You know, they really made him look dorky, and yet you know, he's clean shaven, and you see him on our show. The guy's like fashionable as neck. He's got a beret on, he's wearing a card again, he's got this big dick Beard. You know, he's just mascul portrait of masculinity and you get him on the show and he is the biggest golf psychopath and I just love it, you know, and these these celebrities, you know, it's kind of like it doesn't really matter what you've done in your career if you're like a golf if you know ball, you can come on the show and have a good time. We're gonna have a good conversation. So you know, whether it's him or Andy Garcia or Charlie Day or Andrew Santino, it's like these are these are celebs that know the know the game, and you know they they want to they want to nerd out about like when to wear a glove and when not to just like we all have these same conversations. We tried to set that show up to basically feel like the kind of conversation you'd have sitting around with a beer with your buddies after eighteen holes.
00:17:24
Speaker 5: And Chad, it's uh, you know, as a as a ghost guy, I just really appreciate what you do man, bringing bringing the game of golf forward to the masses. Like that's a great example. Obviously you have to kill Moore is a great example, and and finding these little niche things that you do on top of the big, the big heavy boulders. It's really cool man. And by the way, you're is Jack Nicholas the last really good golfer to wear a glove while he's putting? I don't know, that might be part of that conversation.
00:17:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, here's yeah, I.
00:17:52
Speaker 5: Think splash question for you. You know, have you thought about colle golf? And the reason I bring it up is the all the selection shows were this week and the NCAA Regionals, you know, the national tournament school because they're trying to play to get into you know, win a national championship, play to get into the match to the match play. But that the NCAA Regionals might be the most pressure packed golf event I've ever seen in person. I mean, there's only five spots at each regional site, and these teams they're playing for their school, they're playing for themselves and is just cutthroat. Everyone's living and dying with literally every shot. Have you thought about doing anything around college golf.
00:18:42
Speaker 4: I would love to do something around college And actually I tried to get a college just a one off events set up for last year and ended up scheduling out for the same day as the Skins game, so we had to kind of prioritize the Skins game. But it's something that I am passionate about. I think college golf is a huge white space in terms of entertainment around golf. You know, the players are unbelievably good, You've got this interesting format. The way that the NC DOUBLEA does it, you know, kind of creates its competitions. It's like you don't get head to head matches in a way that I think like people want to see in college where the fandom is so tribal. So I think there's a big opportunity there. You know, I tried to make it happen last year. I got kind of caught up in some NC double A red tape, which you know, that's the other challenge about it. It's, you know, it's it's just like every single level as a say, it's the NC DOUBLEA, it's the conference, it's the school, it's the athletic director. It's like you can get the coaches on board, but there's just ten layers of approvals, different media rights at different levels. The school, the Athletic Department. You know, the SEC has its own media deals and c DOUBLEA. So you know, it's just a it's messy. But I think there's a huge opportunity there. And I agree with you about the regionals being really compelling, but I you know, I think there's something to do there for sure, trust me, my Board of director, I would love it if I figured out something for college golf every time we have a meeting.
00:20:06
Speaker 1: So, Chad, you're around a bunch of celebrities, actors. You know who loved the game of golf. Who is the biggest Vanity Index handicapped person? You know, who is the guy that is, Oh, I'm a I'm a five, but man, he couldn't spell five.
00:20:28
Speaker 4: Oh boy? Uh? I mean probably me. Honestly, It's like, there's the reason the show is called the Vanity of X podcast. I get called an industry scratch often. You know, I don't know. It's like I don't want a bodybag anybody. But I'd say the the NFL quarterbacks probably, you know, they're the ones that you know, I don't know if they're necessarily scratch golfers.
00:20:51
Speaker 6: They're leaders.
00:20:52
Speaker 4: They want to look apart. But I'm not going to name any names, but there's a certain retired quarterback that is known for being a good golfer that I've heard, you know, maybe doesn't quite have the game. So anyway, we'll leave it at that. We'll let the listeners determine on their own. But the funniest part is LA is the land of the Vanity Index. You know, you're kind of pulling golf around this country and everybody's trying to do their best standbag La. It's like it's all about the vanity. You know. They want to get up there on the keybox and say, oh, I'm zero, and then you're like, great, I'll be dining out on that exactly. Well.
00:21:25
Speaker 2: You can hear the Vanity Index podcast wherever you get your podcasts. Also Wednesday mornings on the Golf Channel. Check out the Skins game coming up on Black Friday. You got the new season of Full Swing is out Happy Gilmore two. Stream that again. I was gonna say, if you haven't, who hasn't stream it again? And I want to ask you Chad before we go, And you can follow him on the Instagram machine at Chad mum with two ms or technically three m's. There's the one at the front and end two on the back of. But follow Chad on the on the Instagram machine. But Chad, if you if you could possibly take the full swing cameras and you could, you could follow around, you could you know, point them at a current player that you haven't focused on yet, that you haven't had time with yet.
00:22:09
Speaker 3: Maybe it's an up and comer.
00:22:10
Speaker 2: Maybe it's somebody who has dipped, ducked, died, you know, dived and dodged.
00:22:16
Speaker 3: You over the years. If you could put the cameras at one player, who would it be a why question?
00:22:20
Speaker 4: Victor Hoblin, Victor Hoblin, Mekter Hobblin, Mictor Hobblin.
00:22:25
Speaker 1: Hobblin.
00:22:26
Speaker 4: One because he's you know, the hottest golfer and all the Netflix execs you know, are in love with him. And two, I just think he's the most interesting, one of those interesting players in cerebral. He's interesting. He's got like read, tried out a bunch of stuff. He's into alien UFO conspiracies. He's the kind of person that I just I don't think people know enough about. And certainly if he was gonna let me all in, you know, give me all access. I think Victor Hobblin would be top.
00:22:56
Speaker 2: Of my left has the has the biggest hurdle so far being that you can't get the the the rights to the Norwegian death metal music that he listens to.
00:23:06
Speaker 3: So that's the reason why you haven't had him.
00:23:08
Speaker 4: That's it. Yeah, I just I don't read Norwegian or speak it that well, so you know, try to clear those death metal tracks. It's just been the total blocker on this one.
00:23:18
Speaker 2: Hey, Chad, have a great time next week in the Philadelphia area wherever it is that you're going to tee it up in Philly. City of Brotherly Love is a wonderful, wonderful haven for golf. As I mentioned earlier, recommend try to get out to Cops Creek if you can't. What they're doing there is great, and have a tremendous time out there at the at the PGA Championship at Aeronomac. We look forward to the next time we are able to track you down wherever you are flying around in the world.
00:23:43
Speaker 4: Awesome, guys. Well, I always love coming on this show. So you know, everybody who's listening as they wait around for their tea, times, hit them long, hit them straight, and you're listening to Backsmen the Golf Show.
00:23:55
Speaker 2: Great, Now, now we've got a promo. Thanks so much, Chad. Now he's a radio pro too, well, he's a TV producer and all that. Now he's a radio bro. He's cutting promos like he's stone cold Steve Austin out here.
00:24:05
Speaker 4: You know.
00:24:07
Speaker 3: Always good to catch up with Chad.
00:24:09
Speaker 2: If you're a golf fan, you have already consumed his content in some way, even if you didn't know it. If it's Happy Gilmore, the Skins game, full Swing, Big break is coming back.
00:24:19
Speaker 3: Speaking of break, we've got to get to a quick break coming back.

Speaker 1: That makes it easy
Speaker 1: Now back to back spend the Golf Show your home for the games, the gear, and the stories that matter in golf.
00:00:08
Speaker 2: All right, it's gonna take me the full segment to read through the CV the resume, if you will of Chad mom Our next guest, Here we go. Emmy winning producer of Netflix series Full Swing, new season just released just a couple of weeks ago. Co founder and president of Pro Shop Holdings.
