B29: The bait and switch approach to podcasting. That's what we're going to talk about. Welcome to Be to Be On Year. I'm your host, Joseph Lewin. And there's a common thing that I hear, which is if you're going to invite prospects on your show just so that you can ultimately sell them, isn't that kind of sleazy or or getting into the bait and switch tactics? And, you know, if you want to look at it that way, you can. But I think that switching the way that you think and your mindset going in actually make the hu Biggest difference in whether or not you're actually bait and switching somebody. So a bait and switch is where you promise one thing and then you deliver something completely different. That doesn't mean that if you have multiple motivations and having somebody on your podcast, that you're bait and switching them. The difference is, are you actually delivering on what you promise to the person which you when you reach out? So if you're promising them, hey, you're going to come on my show. I'm going to add value to you, make you look good, make you feel good through the podcast. And then they come on and you deliver that. And then especially if you finish the episode and continue to add value by maybe connecting them with somebody that you know who would be a good fit for them. Or the way that you could add the most value is if they have a problem that they brought up during your conversation that you could help solve, there's absolutely nothing wrong with adding value by going, Hey, by the way, you mentioned XYZ. That's kind of what we do. Would it make sense to schedule a call and talk about how I might be able to help you solve that? Either way, if you're delivering on your promise of having them on as a guest and you're doing a great job at that, and you're not just doing that to check a box and moving on, you it's not a bait and switch. You're adding value. And then the podcast is a door that opens the relationship. And then what you do with that relationship afterward really depends on how you can add value to that person moving forward. And so there's absolutely nothing wrong. w if they bring something up to then continue that into a sales conversation directly, which I would say in my experience, for me personally, that's usually one to four to one out of five people, it actually makes sense to move directly into a sales conversation and they don't feel pitched because we were having a great conversation. I built rapport with them through the podcast, through the post interview. And then it just makes sense to naturally transition into a sales conversation. But then if it's not a good fit, I'm not moving directly into a sales conversation at that point. I'm thinking of other ways to continue adding value to that person. and then when it makes sense down the road, they're gonna be able to come back to me or I'm gonna be able to go back to them when they have the need to solve the problem that I help solve. We'll dig a little bit more into what specifically you can offer to continue to add value after the show if it's not appropriate to move directly into a sales conversation, but that's for a future episode. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of B2B on air and I'll see you on the next one.
