Apple Pie Playground with Valerie
Title: Attitude of Gratitude
What if the power of gratitude was so much more than a "thank you," but was a practice virtually guaranteed to supercharge our best lives. Gratitude, is it really the fuel for a quantum field of potential? Let's talk.
Escaping the Why Spiral: Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude as the Great Multiplier
Valerie works through a rough week of self-doubt and what she calls a "why spiral" using teacher Peter Sapper's idea that gratitude offered in advance, not thanks after the fact, is a great multiplier that reopens the doorway to source consciousness. She then leads listeners through a live gratitude visualization and closes the hour with a Dixit card exercise imagining a painter high on a ladder in the clouds.
A Disappointing Week and the Why Spiral
Valerie opens Apple Pie Playground by admitting that the past week brought real disappointment, not from outside circumstances but from herself. She describes identifying too closely with a limited sense of who she is, an ego-identity built on baggage and old stories, and she names that misidentification as the true source of her suffering. Rather than stepping back from the discomfort, she says she stayed inside it, sinking into what she calls a why spiral: why am I not, why don't I have, why can't I, why aren't the people I love being more. She admits the spiral pulled her all the way down into blame, aimed at herself and at the people closest to her, and that sitting at the bottom of it was not pretty. She credits finding her way back out to an idea she calls too powerful not to share with listeners, setting up the episode's central theme of gratitude as medicine for the mind.
Peter Sapper and the Doorway of Gratitude
Valerie introduces the teacher whose work shapes the hour, a man named Peter Sapper, and a video of his she watched this week called The Frequency That Manifests Miracles. She explains his central claim: suffering comes from clinging to a limited physical persona instead of recognizing an expansive god-self beingness, a misidentification of true nature that convinces people they are lacking, limited, or unlucky. Escaping that trap, she says, does not come from willpower alone but from cultivating gratitude, which Sapper calls the doorway back to unlimited source consciousness. Valerie ties this directly to her own week, admitting that instead of stepping out of her self-created suffering she stayed inside the story her ego-mind was telling her. She frames gratitude not as a passing courtesy but as a discipline capable of dissolving the false identity that keeps a person feeling separate from their own expansive, unlimited nature.
Gratitude as the Great Multiplier
The discussion turns to what Sapper calls quantum appreciation, the practice of feeling grateful in advance of receiving rather than afterward, which he describes as a game changer because it treats gratitude as an expansive energy rather than a polite reflex. Valerie calls this the great multiplier and contrasts it with a simple thank-you-very-much gratitude that misses the point entirely. She recalls the line from a movie character, Stuart Smalley, that an attitude of gratitude ain't just a platitude, and uses it to ask what gratitude really is beyond thank-yous and amens. She then reaches back to Cicero, the Roman orator, who called gratitude not only the greatest of virtues but the parent of all the others, tying it to the classical cardinal virtues of wisdom, justice, courage, and temperance. For Valerie, gratitude becomes the root from which those other qualities grow, a habit worth cultivating deliberately rather than leaving to chance.
An Internal Compass and a Matrix Hack
Valerie describes gratitude as an internal compass, a moral North Star that becomes second nature once it is integrated as a habit rather than an occasional thought. She explains what she calls the gratitude boomerang: what a person offers out into a shared energetic field returns to them, so celebrating the successes of others is said to expand one's own co-creative power rather than diminish it. She is careful to note that Sapper's teaching is not about manifesting stuff, but about connecting on a soul level to a higher self within a cosmos of co-creation. She contrasts this with judgment and blame, which she says contract energy, lower vibration, and lock people into a false material identity. Valerie calls the deepest form of this practice a matrix hack, describing gratitude as the secret ingredient for ascension, and imagines a whole family, town, or planet energized by a shared field of collective gratitude.
A Live Sixty-Second Gratitude Exercise
Valerie invites listeners into a live sixty-second gratitude exercise, an idea she attributes to a manifestation practice Sapper mentions, though she is quick to say she does not love how manifestation is usually framed as a way to get stuff. She guides the room through closing their eyes and holding an image of what they would create for themselves, then repeating phrases aloud: as a conscious co-creator, I am aligned with the field of all potential through gratitude for my creation of, filling in the blank, followed by I am grateful for and ready to receive my creation of. She leads the exercise once in the middle of the hour and returns to it again near the close, encouraging listeners to notice how sixty seconds of focused, embodied gratitude feels different from simply being thankful after the fact for what has already arrived.
A Dixit Card Visualization and Closing Thoughts
With time running short, Valerie decides to close with a Dixit card visualization instead of her usual sign-off, noting how much of her week was spent, in her words, looking into subconscious suitcases. She asks listeners to imagine a person dressed entirely in yellow, balanced on the top rung of a ladder so tall its base disappears from view and its top reaches into the clouds. In the scene, the figure paints three clouds into shapes: a white butterfly, a bird whose kind feels oddly familiar, and a third object she leaves listeners to recognize for themselves, asking what memory or emotion each image might stir. As the figure climbs back down and vanishes, Valerie invites everyone to carry the scene into the week ahead. She closes the hour thanking BBS Radio and her listeners by name, promising to return to the playground the following Sunday.
