Do Catholic miracles prove that the Roman Catholic Church is the one true Church? Or can Protestants acknowledge that genuine miracles occur within Catholicism without accepting Rome's claims about authority and doctrine? The recent return of philosopher Joe Schmid to Catholicism has sparked renewed conversations about the evidence for Catholicism, including reports of Marian apparitions, Eucharistic miracles, and other supernatural events. But even if these miracles are genuine, what do they actually prove? In this episode of FreeThinking Ministries, Josh Klein and Dr. Tim Stratton welcome philosopher Phil Kallberg to discuss his article, "Do Catholic Miracles Vindicate Rome's Claims? No, and Here's Why."
Together, they examine the logical relationship between miracles and religious authority, whether supernatural experiences can establish the truth of particular doctrines, and why Protestants might recognize God's activity within the Catholic Church while still rejecting distinctively Catholic claims. This is not a conversation about dismissing Catholics or denying that God works miracles. It's about thinking carefully through the evidence, following the logic, and asking whether the conclusions actually follow from the premises.
