SELLEST OSAST
Amy Sciarretto of Atom Splitter PR joins The Mox of the Vulgar Display of Podcast for an in-depth conversation about the music industry, public relations, journalism, artist development, and the relationships that drive the rock and metal world.
As one of the most respected publicists in heavy music, Amy shares her journey from aspiring music journalist and college radio enthusiast to founding Atom Splitter PR, one of the premier publicity firms in rock, metal, hardcore, and alternative music. She discusses her early writing opportunities, influential mentors, time at CMJ and Roadrunner Records, and the leap of faith that led her to launch her own company with Killswitch Engage as its flagship client.
Throughout the interview, Amy breaks down what a publicist actually does, explaining how PR professionals help shape and protect an artist's public narrative through media strategy, interview coordination, tour promotion, crisis management, release planning, and long-term brand development. She also addresses the realities of declining interview requests, prioritizing media opportunities, and navigating the ever-changing music landscape.
The conversation explores how music journalism has evolved over the years, with podcasts becoming a key platform for artist discovery and long-form storytelling in an era where traditional print media has significantly declined. Amy and The Mox discuss the importance of trust, authenticity, and relationship-building in an industry that is far more collaborative than many fans realize.
Amy also shares stories and insights from her decades-long relationships with some of the biggest names in heavy music, including Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, Machine Head, Trivium, The Pretty Reckless, Falling in Reverse, Sleep Token, Chevelle, DevilDriver, Within Temptation, Glassjaw, FAR, and many more. From being encouraged by Mike D of Killswitch Engage to launch Atom Splitter PR to describing Machine Head's Rob Flynn and Trivium's Matt Heafy as family, Amy offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the personal connections that often develop between artists and their publicists.
