ONE CONVERSATION, TWO DIFFERENT PATHS Part One: The Summer in New York City That Changed My Life
How do you get from college into the career - and life - you dream about? And how do you begin again when you are ready to pivot, pursue something new, and ask for exactly what you want?
At 19, Julie went to New York City for an internship at Andy Warhol's iconic Interview Magazine. She had no master plan or professional connections. She simply knew she wanted to be part of the extraordinary world of media and entertainment - and she was willing to follow her instincts, raise her hand, and ask for the opportunity.
In this personal episode of The Ambition Code, Julie shares the origin story of her career and the lessons that still guide her today: move toward the environments that inspire you, surround yourself with curiosity and momentum, ask clearly for what you want, and do not automatically accept the first "no" as the end of the story.
Sometimes the next step is another thoughtful question. Sometimes it is a different route. Sometimes it is simply having the courage to keep moving before you can see the entire path.
Then, on Julie's final day in New York, one magical ten-minute conversation with a stranger from her dorm changed the direction of her life.
This episode is for anyone trying to break into a dream career, searching for the courage to make a pivot, or wondering how to move closer to the life they know they want.
Life has a way of presenting opportunities, connections, and unexpected possibilities when you become clear about the direction you are pursuing - and brave enough to act on it.
In this episode:
- Why asking for what you want can change what becomes possible
-
How to move forward when the first answer is no
-
Why your environment can expand your vision for your life
-
How one conversation can redirect your future
You do not need every answer before you begin. Follow the instinct. Take the next step. Ask the question.
Your life is waiting for you.
