Welcome back to Peak Property Performance! In today’s episode, Drew Hall and Bill Douglas sit down with property management tech veteran Michael Mullin to explore the evolution—and occasional regression—of commercial real estate systems. Together, they trace the journey from early operator-controlled, standalone applications to today’s sprawling platform ecosystems, examining how the drive for convenience and real-time data sometimes comes at the cost of operator control and clear decision-making.
We’ll hear firsthand how technology consolidation brought benefits like instant reporting and centralized control, but also introduced new complexities, silos, and risks—especially as AI and a proliferation of PropTech tools change the landscape. Michael Mullin shares war stories, practical lessons, and cautionary tales on tech sprawl, MSPs, security, and the all-important need to manage risk as technology transforms the industry.
Whether you’re an owner, operator, or tech enthusiast, you’ll gain actionable insights for navigating today's complex CRE technology stack—so don’t miss this candid conversation about clarity, control, and the real risks behind the convenience.
