We have some spots on the ridgeline that give different views of the valley below. We have copies of two sketches done by Thomas Cole during a visit to what was then called the “Great Wilderness” in the early 1800s. He would paint large panoramas and charge people to view them in the city. Now these overlooks can help visitors get a fresh view of their life.

Many people come to the mountains to experience the splendor of the fall foliage. Yet, many miss the valuable benefit of taking time to be one with Nature. When one does that, no matter the season, no matter how long, it is possible to feel refreshed and ready to reenter the flow of life.

I am fascinated by how the sunlight or lack thereof plays on the mountainside. I am fortunate to observe lighting as pertains to photography, and that causes me to see movement at a slow pace. People in a hurry can miss the wonders that are right in front of them. Try watching the light play.

Recently I had the opportunity to watch volunteers from the Granite Back County Alliance and Timberland Outdoor Equipment Company from all over New England help in the annual fall cleanup of our backcountry ski trails. Amazingly positive things happen when groups come together.
