The single best time to practice A Course in Miracles is when you are suffering mentally or emotionally. Discomfort in the form of anger, sadness, fear, guilt, self-loathing, grief and so on is a flashing neon sign that says "do one of the Course practices, stat!" Why? For one thing, Course practices are powerful and they consistently work. For another, moments of suffering show us EXACTLY where the blocks to the awareness of love's presence are located in our mind. This is massively helpful information, and if we use it WELL, we can experience an immediate healing beyond our imagination. The more we let go of the blocks in our mind, the more space there is for light, joy and peace.
