Public education affects every resident of Sonoma County—even those without children in school. In this episode of Explore with Gore, Supervisor James Gore sits down with Dr. Amie Carter, Superintendent of the Sonoma County Office of Education, to discuss the state of education across the county, the challenges schools are facing, and the innovative programs preparing students for the future.
They explore everything from declining enrollment, school consolidations, and student mental health to career technical education, third-grade literacy, adult education, and the critical role of community partnerships. Dr. Carter also explains what the Sonoma County Office of Education does—and just as importantly, what it doesn't do—and why supporting public education is a shared responsibility.
Whether you're a parent, educator, employer, or simply invested in the future of Sonoma County, this conversation highlights why strong schools create stronger communities and how everyone can play a role in student success.
