SELLEST OSAST
David Ritchey, Superintendent of La Mesa ISD in Texas, brings more than 30 years of experience in education and a leadership philosophy rooted in relationships, responsibility, and impact. In this episode, David shares how staying closely connected to students, families, and staff has helped transform culture and create meaningful opportunities across a high-needs rural district.
David discusses La Mesa’s approach to early literacy, including community-wide access to reading resources, individualized progress monitoring, and systems that help students take ownership of their learning. He also explores how the district is using innovation and career-connected pathways—including welding, cosmetology, healthcare, and public safety—to ensure every student graduates with a clear path toward success. At the heart of it all is David’s belief that every student can achieve when we set high expectations, provide the right support, and refuse to limit what they believe is possible.
