SELLEST OSAST
For years, thyroid expert Dr. Izabella Wentz focused on the biochemical root causes of Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism—but over time, she uncovered a deeper pattern.
In this fascinating conversation with Jodie Cohen, she explains why chronic fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, anxiety, and even autoimmune symptoms may be the body’s attempt to protect you from perceived danger.
Drawing from her own recovery journey and work with thousands of patients, Dr. Wentz shares her groundbreaking "safety signals" framework, revealing how nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, blood sugar swings, poor sleep, unresolved trauma, unhealthy relationships, and even negative thought patterns can keep the body stuck in survival mode.
Most importantly, she explains how gentle, practical interventions can help restore resilience, rebalance the nervous system, and create the conditions for true healing.

Key Takeaways
Your symptoms may not be signs that your body is broken—they may be adaptive responses to stress, scarcity, inflammation, or perceived threats.
Many people with thyroid issues and chronic fatigue have depleted stress responses and may react poorly to fasting, cold plunges, and intense exercise.
Supporting the body with nutrient-dense foods, balanced blood sugar, hydration, and healthy circadian rhythms can dramatically improve energy and resilience.
Positive thought patterns, pleasurable activities, creativity, physical affection, and meaningful social connection send powerful "safety signals" to the nervous system.
Healing often requires addressing deeper issues such as trauma, unhealthy coping mechanisms, people-pleasing, and a lack of healthy boundaries.
