SELLEST OSAST
Do you have to be an extrovert to be a great networker or public speaker?
In this episode of Develop This!, Dennis Fraise sits down with Mark Perna to explore how introverts—and anyone who feels uncomfortable in networking situations—can build authentic connections, gain confidence, and thrive in professional settings.
Mark explains why successful networking isn't about collecting business cards or dominating conversations. Instead, it's about showing genuine curiosity, asking thoughtful questions, and focusing on the other person. He shares practical strategies for "working the room," creating meaningful conversations, and using simple conversational off-ramps to move naturally between interactions.
The conversation also dives into the mental side of public speaking. Mark discusses how experienced speakers prepare before stepping on stage, why building human connections before a presentation improves audience engagement, and how confidence grows through repetition rather than perfection.
Listeners will also learn practical techniques for managing post-event conversations, organizing follow-ups, and maintaining relationships long after an event ends. Whether you're attending your first conference or speaking to hundreds of people, Mark offers actionable advice that anyone can apply.
A key takeaway? Great networking isn't about being the loudest person in the room—it's about making others feel heard, valued, and genuinely connected.
