SELLEST OSAST
Episode 15
Andrew McKenna leads church relations at Worship Initiative after serving as a worship pastor for over 20 years. In this Conversation with Ministry Leaders, he shares valuable insights about the current state of worship ministry. He talks to us about creating visual standards for worship teams. The bar for entry has risen significantly. Today's worship teams use click tracks and backing tracks. However, biblical and musical literacy has declined among new volunteers. This creates a challenging environment for worship leaders.
Excellence means different things to different people. Therefore, clear communication becomes essential. What works in South Carolina won't necessarily work in Seattle. Churches must define success within their local context. Additionally, style guides and templates help volunteers succeed without feeling overwhelmed by creative decisions.
The visual landscape varies greatly by church size and context. Some churches invest heavily in LED walls and motion graphics. Others embrace minimalism with simple text on black backgrounds. Interestingly, experienced leaders often gravitate toward simplicity. Less clutter creates more meaningful experiences for broader audiences. Simple design takes time to master.
McKenna offers encouragement to ministry leaders everywhere. More opportunities exist now than ever before for training and development. Online programs and cohorts provide relational connections and growth opportunities. Most importantly, leaders shouldn't rob their teams of chances to develop. The need remains great in worship ministry. Worship Initiative stands ready to partner with churches through their resources at worshipinitiative.com.
