SELLEST OSAST
What if we looked beyond the masks people wear and saw the vulnerable human underneath?
In this powerful reflection, Kathy shares a deeply personal story about her daughter Amy and the lesson that changed the way she moves through the world: everyone, even those who seem powerful, intimidating, or distant carries a younger version of themselves that once wanted to be seen, accepted, and loved.
Through her poem “Insane-isms,” Kathy explores how fear, pain, and unresolved wounds can shape the ways we divide ourselves through racism, tribalism, nationalism, and other forms of separation.
But beneath every label is a human being. And when we choose curiosity over judgment, compassion over fear, and connection over division, we create the possibility for a kinder world.
A reminder that the greatest act of humanity may be learning to see the person behind the mask.
