The Adaptive Home: Smart Home Design, Lighting & Wellness
How can smart home technology support well-being while preserving the architectural vision of a luxury residence?
Recorded at Interstate Design Center in Westport, Connecticut, The Adaptive Home: Where Design, Technology & Wellness Converge brings together Audio Command Systems, Marvin, Lutron, Baldwin, and Vibrant Building Technologies to explore how residential technology shapes everyday comfort.
Moderated by Thomas Clancy of Audio Command Systems, this panel discussion examines the coordination behind automated shades, lighting control, connected windows and doors, smart locks, and indoor air quality systems. For luxury architects and interior designers, the conversation offers practical insight into decisions that belong early in design, including shade pockets, mechanical space, network infrastructure, and intuitive controls.
In this episode, we discuss:
- What makes a home adaptive and how it can respond to its occupants and environment.
- Designing lighting and motorized shades together to manage daylight, glare, and privacy.
- Coordinating connected windows with ventilation and climate control.
- Incorporating smart access without compromising architectural hardware and finishes.
- Bringing compatible systems together through whole-home integration.
- Planning for ongoing support, homeowner privacy, and changing needs.
