leah krubitzer is an American neuroscientist, Professor of Psychology at University of California, Davis, and head of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Neurobiology. Her research interests center on how complex brains in mammals (e.g., humans) evolve from simpler forms. To do this, she focuses on anatomical connections and electrophysiological characteristics of neurons in the neocortex (i.e., the part of the brain associated with perception, cognition, learning, and memory).
CARTA: Tool Use and Technology: Leah Krubitzer - The Combinatorial Creature: Cortical Phenotypes Within and Across Lifetimes
This symposium addresses the interactive gene-culture co-evolution of the human brain with tool use and technology - ranging from simple stone tools millions of years ago to computers today. The combination of genetic and activity dependent mechanisms that create a given cortical phenotype allows t…
CARTA: Impact of Tool Use and Technology on the Evolution of the Human Mind - Leah Krubitzer John Shea Paula Tallal
This symposium addresses the interactive gene-culture co-evolution of the human brain with tool use and technology - ranging from simple stone tools millions of years ago to computers today. Series: "CARTA - Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny" [Science] [Show ID: 34186]
The Greg Suess Podcast S04 E08: Leah Krubitzer
Greg Sits down with UC Davis Neuroscientist and Psychologist Leah Krubitzer to discuss her career training in speech pathology and audiology to evolutionary biology (2:59), the makeup of a scientist that is an evolutionary biologist (6:41), conducting research in Queensland, Australia during gradua…

Prof. Leah Krubitzer of University of California, Davis on the future of the brain.
Scientific Sense ® by Gill Eapen: Prof. Leah Krubitzer is professor in the Department of Psychology and Center for Neuroscience at the University of California, Davis. Her current research focuses on the impact of early experience on the cortical phenotype, and she specifically examines the effec…
Lecture | Leah Krubitzer "Combinatorial Creatures: Cortical Plasticity Within and Across Lifetimes"
Leah Krubitzer | MacArthur Fellow Professor of Psychology | University of California, Davis"Combinatorial Creatures: Cortical Plasticity Within and Across Lifetimes"
"The neocortex is one of the most distinctive structures of the mammalian brain, yet also one of the most varied in terms of both …
Stuart Wilson on self-organization and cortical maps
How does the brain build its own maps, and what constrains the patterns that evolution can produce? Computational neuroscientist Stuart Wilson argues that cortical arealization emerges from self-organizing processes operating within the design space defined by reaction-diffusion dynamics , not from…
