Patrick K. O'Donnell highlights Harry Harrison Young, a fearless commander who led the Jesse Scouts as a strategic asset for Phil Sheridan in 1865. Disguised in Confederate uniforms, these scouts provided real-time intelligence and delivered critical messages to Grant while evading enemy patrols. They played a pivotal role in the Battle of Five Forks, finding weak points that allowed Sheridan to break Lee's lines. By intercepting orders and capturing supply trains, the scouts crippled Lee's logistics, forcing a premature evacuation of Richmond and setting the stage for the final retreat to Appomattox. (7)
