WEBVTT
00:00:04.799 -->
00:00:05.839Welcome everybody.
00:00:05.839 -->
00:00:07.599Welcome back to regular good stuff.
00:00:07.599 -->
00:00:09.199Today I'm really excited.
00:00:09.199 -->
00:00:11.439We have our first guest.
00:00:11.439 -->
00:00:14.640And I'm setting the bar incredibly high with this guest.
00:00:14.640 -->
00:00:16.800I feel like I'm starting at the top.
00:00:16.800 -->
00:00:19.039So welcome, Chelsea Sodaro, to the podcast.
00:00:19.359 -->
00:00:19.920Thanks, Iz.
00:00:19.920 -->
00:00:21.839Huge congrats on the pod.
00:00:21.839 -->
00:00:25.120And I'm, you know, a total fangirl of yours.
00:00:25.120 -->
00:00:27.440So it's super fun to do this together.
00:00:28.000 -->
00:00:29.039Right back at you.
00:00:29.039 -->
00:00:31.199I am really excited.
00:00:31.199 -->
00:00:38.880I don't feel like you need an introduction, but I guess I will give one to our listeners in case they have been living under a proverbial gravel rock.
00:00:38.880 -->
00:00:43.600So Chelsea Cedaro is an icon to start off with.
00:00:43.600 -->
00:00:47.920She is the 2022 Iron Man World Champion.
00:00:47.920 -->
00:00:54.560And if that wasn't impressive enough, she did it while 18 months postpartum with her daughter Skye.
00:00:54.560 -->
00:01:02.240And that I think in itself is one of the most amazing achievements that I've seen actually personally live.
00:01:02.240 -->
00:01:16.560And then also beyond that, Chelsea has been an incredible advocate to mothers and athletes and women across the world and making an impact just beyond herself, which is something that I try and emulate myself as well.
00:01:16.560 -->
00:01:19.599So, Chelsea, thank you so much for being here.
00:01:19.599 -->
00:01:28.000Just to start off with story time, I don't, I think I've mentioned this to you before, but in 2022, I was in Kona with my now husband.
00:01:28.000 -->
00:01:30.879He was competing, obviously, as an amateur.
00:01:30.879 -->
00:01:35.359But I got to watch the women's race because we were there early.
00:01:35.359 -->
00:01:41.760And I was standing with Meredith Miller from Shimano, and you ran by just absolutely crushing it.
00:01:41.760 -->
00:01:44.799And so I remember her being like, and she's a mom.
00:01:44.799 -->
00:01:46.239And I was like, What?
00:01:46.239 -->
00:01:56.159That's like in the time I was, I think, in my second year of racing professionally in gravel, um, at a young age of 32.
00:01:56.159 -->
00:01:59.680Like I knew that I wanted to be a mom, but it was not something that I had really thought about.
00:01:59.680 -->
00:02:04.560I didn't know where my professional career as an athlete would be when that time came.
00:02:04.560 -->
00:02:13.520And I don't know if you know just how much of an impact it had on me personally, just that moment being like, oh my gosh, like the best in the world is also a mom.
00:02:13.520 -->
00:02:30.319And I think now that I am a mom, I have a whole new respect for that achievement and that moment because I am 14 months postpartum, and I will be the first to say that I am not in world championship shape.
00:02:30.319 -->
00:02:35.280And I don't know if my life depended on it, if I could get there in the next four months.
00:02:35.280 -->
00:02:39.599Um, so that in itself is an incredible achievement, but I want to talk a little bit more.
00:02:39.599 -->
00:02:42.000I think you've been pretty open about it.
00:02:42.000 -->
00:02:43.759Wasn't a smooth road to get there.
00:02:43.759 -->
00:02:55.280And I think on the day everything looks really perfect, but I think you or I will be the first to say that motherhood is anything but perfect and there is no real schedule in the chaos.
00:02:55.280 -->
00:02:59.599Um, so yeah, I'm excited to talk more about that.
00:02:59.599 -->
00:03:05.280And also the timing is is kind of apt because you're a week out from Kona again.
00:03:05.280 -->
00:03:07.199How are you feeling about that?
00:03:07.599 -->
00:03:10.080Yeah, I I feel really excited.
00:03:10.080 -->
00:03:19.520Um for me, it's just such a journey to get to the start line every time, as I think you can appreciate now.
00:03:19.520 -->
00:03:27.039Um with Hazel, I I've actually been away from Sky for a month preparing for Kona.
00:03:27.039 -->
00:03:28.479Yeah I know.
00:03:28.479 -->
00:03:34.800And I've done this, I guess this is my second year doing that kind of prep.
00:03:34.800 -->
00:03:47.439And I think motherhood and life um when you have a career outside of the home is filled with trade-offs.
00:03:47.439 -->
00:03:51.280So it's it's definitely not easy.
00:03:51.280 -->
00:03:56.240And I've had a lot of ups and downs since that race in 2022.
00:03:56.240 -->
00:03:59.759But I feel excited, yeah, to be in one piece.
00:03:59.759 -->
00:04:02.639And I love the big island.
00:04:02.639 -->
00:04:04.879I feel a very strong connection.
00:04:04.879 -->
00:04:06.800Um, I have friends there now.
00:04:06.800 -->
00:04:09.599When I get off the plane, I feel like, oh, I'm home.
00:04:09.599 -->
00:04:12.800I love the climate, I love the course.
00:04:12.800 -->
00:04:14.879So it's a really special place to me.
00:04:14.879 -->
00:04:19.199And it's a total privilege to get to do this.
00:04:19.519 -->
00:04:21.360Yeah, I think that's a really good mentality.
00:04:21.360 -->
00:04:22.720And I think it's one of those.
00:04:22.720 -->
00:04:33.040Before I became a mom, I remember someone was like, you better really love your job because it's gonna be hard to continue once you have something else that's competing for your energy and your attention.
00:04:33.040 -->
00:04:38.319I think as an athlete, and for you, one of the top in the world, that's even more true.
00:04:38.319 -->
00:04:40.399Where it's like this, it is a job.
00:04:40.399 -->
00:04:49.600And you have to, I don't know if people would, I don't think they question it, but if people would question, like, oh, I have to go on a work trip or something like that, if it's a regular desk job.
00:04:49.600 -->
00:04:59.439Um, but as an athlete, you're like, this is so important and this is the biggest race of the year, and I have to spend a month really locking in and saying, like, it's go time.
00:04:59.439 -->
00:05:05.439And I think my daughter's not at the point that she understands like what I'm doing.
00:05:05.439 -->
00:05:08.000Um, but I think Skye, she's five now.
00:05:08.000 -->
00:05:15.600Like she, I think understands like that her mom is an absolute badass, and and it's probably really fun for her to watch.
00:05:15.600 -->
00:05:18.000Um, will she get to go to the race?
00:05:18.319 -->
00:05:21.519Yeah, it's funny because um we have this.
00:05:21.519 -->
00:05:30.720There was this kind of like iconic, iconic, I don't know, this photo that really like took off in mainstream media after I won where I met a screen bikini.
00:05:31.519 -->
00:05:32.160Badass photo.
00:05:32.160 -->
00:05:33.600I was gonna bring up the photo.
00:05:33.600 -->
00:05:34.959It's like my favorite photo.
00:05:34.959 -->
00:05:37.199I was like, this photo.
00:05:37.199 -->
00:05:39.360We'll have to put like a screenshot.
00:05:39.360 -->
00:05:43.600I don't know if I'm technically savvy enough, but it's truly the coolest photo I've ever seen.
00:05:43.920 -->
00:05:45.120Um, so I have this.
00:05:45.120 -->
00:05:47.519His name is James Mitchell, is the photographer.
00:05:47.519 -->
00:05:48.399He's incredible.
00:05:48.399 -->
00:05:53.439I've known him for a really long time since I like first started racing long distance triathlon.
00:05:53.439 -->
00:06:01.360And after I won, he was like, I want to do something special for you, which is just like a huge gesture.
00:06:01.360 -->
00:06:11.519I think, you know, some of my favorite people actually in my sport are the photographers and videographers and media people that I've gotten to know because um their lives are like way more similar to mine, actually.
00:06:11.519 -->
00:06:15.680Like a lot of them have families, they have this like crazy job and they're going to these races.
00:06:15.680 -->
00:06:20.959And um, anyway, he he does a lot of work for Iron Man and he was like, I want to do something special for you.
00:06:20.959 -->
00:06:35.680So uh, and I had this like bright green bikini, and we went out to this beautiful kind of secret beach, and um he got these shots, which which are like such a nice memory for me, and it sort of like took off.
00:06:35.680 -->
00:06:48.319And I'm holding Sky and I'm in the bikini, and um, you know, she was 18 months old and she was like kind of irritated that I she had had to do a photo shade.
00:06:48.319 -->
00:06:50.079How to do a photo.
00:06:50.079 -->
00:06:54.399And um yeah, it's cool.
00:06:54.399 -->
00:07:06.480She doesn't remember anything about Kona, and it's so funny because like she knows what I do, but she doesn't know that I like she could probably tell you that I'm a world champion, but she doesn't know what that means.
00:07:06.480 -->
00:07:11.680She really doesn't care like about the level that I'm competing at.
00:07:11.680 -->
00:07:15.439Last year I dropped out of Kona and I got back to the hotel and I was devastated.
00:07:15.439 -->
00:07:19.920And she goes, she gets out of the pool and she goes, Mom, you didn't win me any prizes.
00:07:19.920 -->
00:07:22.879And then she like gets right back in the pool.
00:07:22.879 -->
00:07:30.879So, you know, she is this like perfect living perspective for me, right?
00:07:30.879 -->
00:07:34.800Where I'm constantly snabbed back into reality.
00:07:34.800 -->
00:07:40.160Like she is gonna get to totally like she's gonna get to she's coming to Kona next week.
00:07:40.160 -->
00:07:47.600My mom is bringing her out for the race a couple days before, and she's really excited because she loves this one hotel pool.
00:07:47.600 -->
00:07:51.920And I'm like, we could go to any hotel pool.
00:07:51.920 -->
00:07:56.240Like, we could probably go to a hotel pool in Boulder, and she would think it would be just as rad.
00:07:56.240 -->
00:08:00.240Um, but yeah, she will remember this, I think.
00:08:00.240 -->
00:08:06.240Like she is in kindergarten, and I think she'll have memories of this particular trip.
00:08:06.240 -->
00:08:12.959So um that's exciting for me that she'll get to see me doing my thing and hopefully be having a great time.
00:08:13.199 -->
00:08:15.199Oh, and no, it like it gives me chills.
00:08:15.199 -->
00:08:15.920It's so exciting.
00:08:15.920 -->
00:08:17.759It is funny what children remember.
00:08:17.759 -->
00:08:23.519We went on this epic trip as a family last, or I guess two years ago, to the Paris Olympics.
00:08:23.519 -->
00:08:30.399And my sister has at the time they were four-year-old twins, and we asked the little boy, we were like, what was your favorite part of the trip?
00:08:30.399 -->
00:08:32.159And he was like, the escalator.
00:08:32.159 -->
00:08:34.080And we were like, Oh my gosh.
00:08:34.080 -->
00:08:38.720We just saw a zillion different Olympic events, and it was the coolest trip ever.
00:08:38.720 -->
00:08:43.679And your favorite part was the escalator to the train down to get to the event.
00:08:43.679 -->
00:08:46.879Um, but yeah, it is one of those.
00:08:46.879 -->
00:08:49.360I think she's getting to the age where like she's gonna remember this.
00:08:49.360 -->
00:08:53.200And I think, do you feel like that adds more pressure or is that more fun?
00:08:54.320 -->
00:08:55.919No, I think it's more fun.
00:08:55.919 -->
00:09:04.159Like I I listened, you know, I've listened to your I've listened to your first pod, and you were talking a little bit about mom guilt.
00:09:04.159 -->
00:09:09.039And for me at least, it's gotten a lot better.
00:09:09.039 -->
00:09:10.559That's great to hear.
00:09:10.559 -->
00:09:11.360Yeah.
00:09:11.360 -->
00:09:24.559You know, I like grow, I remember in those early, you know, in those early days, gosh, like leaving her for a race was so excruciating to me.
00:09:24.559 -->
00:09:33.200And every time I I would get on the plane, I would just be like looking through pictures of her and like crying during take off.
00:09:33.200 -->
00:09:40.159And it's still super hard to leave her, but we can actually talk about it and talk about what I'm doing.
00:09:40.159 -->
00:09:53.039And when I'm away, like we will have breakfast together over FaceTime and we do bedtime together over FaceTime, and we can like tell each other that we're missing each other and talk about our days, and like she knows why I'm away.
00:09:53.039 -->
00:10:06.159So from that perspective, like while we miss each other a lot, and I wish that we could be together, at least we could like we can have a real discourse about what's going on in each other's lives when we're apart.
00:10:06.159 -->
00:10:09.279And like she knows I'm working really hard.
00:10:09.279 -->
00:10:16.159And um that's at least made it feel it's felt a little easier for me.
00:10:16.159 -->
00:10:23.200And I think, you know, in so many other jobs, people go on business trips and like we don't get an eye.
00:10:23.679 -->
00:10:27.440I grew up with my mom worked and my dad stayed home with us and raised us.
00:10:27.440 -->
00:10:28.240So cool.
00:10:28.240 -->
00:10:34.240And it was one of those, I think back to it now, I don't think of her in any way of less of a mom.
00:10:34.240 -->
00:10:41.039Like I was so proud to have a mom that was going out there and doing something that wasn't as common, and I still am.
00:10:41.039 -->
00:10:44.639Um, but it is interesting when you flip it on yourself.
00:10:44.639 -->
00:10:50.559Like I feel so guilty going out to, I don't know, it just feels selfish to go do a bike ride.
00:10:50.559 -->
00:10:57.279And even though that is my job and it's it's what I'm paid to do, it feels different now.
00:10:57.279 -->
00:11:00.720Um and I can't imagine you have three sports to do.
00:11:00.720 -->
00:11:01.840I only have one.
00:11:02.320 -->
00:11:04.240Well, you ride your bike more than I do.
00:11:04.240 -->
00:11:16.879But you know, I think I think I've thought about this a lot because, you know, like especially in the first couple years of her life, everything felt like so rush, and I felt like on such a schedule.
00:11:16.879 -->
00:11:21.759And part of that was like the feeding part and then like the childcare part.
00:11:21.759 -->
00:11:27.200Um, but I think it's because we're not clocking in and clocking out.
00:11:27.200 -->
00:11:27.679Yeah.
00:11:27.679 -->
00:11:30.480Like nobody knows if we're doing our job or not.
00:11:30.480 -->
00:11:34.320The only time people know if we've done our job is on race day.
00:11:34.480 -->
00:11:34.639Yeah.
00:11:34.799 -->
00:11:38.159And like the only accountability we have is to ourselves, right?
00:11:38.159 -->
00:11:56.559So like it's really easy to say, oh, I'll just like not do my like activation exercises, and that'll like give me a few extra minutes with my kid, or like I won't foam roll or rest or get body work done or whatever, right?
00:11:56.559 -->
00:12:01.600Like it's really easy just to say I'm not accountable to anybody.
00:12:01.600 -->
00:12:06.159I only have so much time in the day, like I don't need to do that.
00:12:07.279 -->
00:12:09.600I think it's an interesting you balance.
00:12:09.600 -->
00:12:14.399My husband and I have talked about this a lot where you're balancing like the energy.
00:12:14.399 -->
00:12:19.279You have two jobs now, a mom and an athlete, like that are competing against the same pool of energy.
00:12:19.279 -->
00:12:25.519And that has been really challenging, where you're like, okay, I only yeah, with that, like what are the shortcuts that I'm gonna take?
00:12:25.519 -->
00:12:27.600And mine for me at least it's been recovery.
00:12:27.600 -->
00:12:37.360You're like, I no longer come home from a ride and have time to eat the right food and sit on the couch and put my Normaltech boots on and kind of take a moment.
00:12:37.360 -->
00:12:39.279You're like, okay, I'm back to being a mom.
00:12:39.279 -->
00:12:41.120Um, hopefully she takes a nap later.
00:12:41.120 -->
00:12:44.399But if she doesn't, we're gonna be outside going to the park or something like that.
00:12:44.399 -->
00:12:53.679So it's one of those, it's unlike a desk job where at least my husband like goes and sits for a while, which is exhausting in a totally different way.
00:12:53.679 -->
00:13:04.080Um, but the yeah, the lack of kind of extra energy that you have, you're always trying to figure out if you have 100% like how much do you spend with Sky and how much you spend on your job.
00:13:04.080 -->
00:13:09.759And I think leading into one of these huge races like Kona, you're like, it's gonna have to be more focused on this race.
00:13:09.759 -->
00:13:13.039And then after we'll get to hang out a little bit more and I'll get to take a break.
00:13:13.039 -->
00:13:14.399Um totally.
00:13:14.639 -->
00:13:24.879And I think I I like choose to think of I like I don't know if you get a lot of more questions now about like, how do you balance it all?
00:13:24.879 -->
00:13:29.679How do you like how do you train how do you do it all?
00:13:29.679 -->
00:13:31.600And like, I don't.
00:13:32.080 -->
00:13:35.679And I think what's hard is I think on the surface it looks like you do.
00:13:35.679 -->
00:13:39.759And I think I'm probably yeah, people are not like I'm not really doing it all.
00:13:40.879 -->
00:13:54.639No, I think um I think my message after I won Kona, I was like, you can have all the things you want as long as you have the right support.
00:13:54.639 -->
00:13:56.559And that is not true.
00:13:57.600 -->
00:13:58.480Yeah, it's hard.
00:13:58.720 -->
00:13:59.919Like, it's not true.
00:13:59.919 -->
00:14:09.440And you can have like a couple of things in your life, and you can do a couple of things really well, assuming you have really great support.
00:14:09.440 -->
00:14:15.919But for me, it's like about leaning into different priorities in different seasons.
00:14:15.919 -->
00:14:19.519And for most of the year, I'm like a really present mom.
00:14:19.519 -->
00:14:22.240My job actually provides me a lot of flexibility.
00:14:22.240 -->
00:14:23.679I'm home a lot, right?
00:14:23.679 -->
00:14:25.519I don't like go in and out of the office.
00:14:25.519 -->
00:14:29.039I don't race that many times a year because you can only race so many triathlons.
00:14:29.039 -->
00:14:30.960And I've been hurt a lot the last year.
00:14:30.960 -->
00:14:34.320So I've been home, you know, and present quite a lot.
00:14:34.320 -->
00:14:46.559But in like this particular period of time, right, leading into a big race where like a lot of my income depends on this race, like our livelihood, like it's a really big deal.
00:14:46.559 -->
00:14:50.480Um, this is when I have to like prioritize my work.
00:14:50.480 -->
00:14:57.360And, you know, now that she's older, I like I know that she's thriving even when I'm not there.
00:14:57.360 -->
00:15:02.159And um, that has been harder at other times for me.
00:15:02.159 -->
00:15:08.639Like my husband has been home with her a lot the last well, he's been home full-time with her since the summer of 2023.
00:15:08.639 -->
00:15:15.039And so he like became her default parent for a period of time where like she would want her dad instead of wanting me.
00:15:15.039 -->
00:15:19.440And I always felt like, oh, it was just like a dagger to the heart, right?
00:15:19.440 -->
00:15:28.080I was like, I'm not, I'm not like, you know, that like idyllic mom for her, maybe.
00:15:28.080 -->
00:15:30.480Or and we had a really hard breastfeeding journey too.
00:15:30.480 -->
00:15:34.639So like I wasn't able to breastfeed her, which was devastating for me at the time.
00:15:34.639 -->
00:15:38.960Like devastating, you know, in like my circle.
00:15:38.960 -->
00:15:43.360Like, if you are a good mom, you breastfeed your baby, and that's how they bond with you.
00:15:43.440 -->
00:15:48.399And like, and we just have back immediately to like this is what I'm supposed to be able to do.
00:15:48.399 -->
00:15:54.320And if she doesn't want to nurse, I'm not doing the biological thing that I'm supposed to do.
00:15:54.320 -->
00:15:57.440And it was such an emotional roller coaster.
00:15:57.440 -->
00:16:03.200Um, and I ended up just switching to pumping after I think I I say that Hazel fired me from nursing.
00:16:03.200 -->
00:16:10.240Um, but it was one of those, it was just where I was like slowly losing it and it was every single day in tears being like, I can't, yeah, why won't you do this?
00:16:10.240 -->
00:16:16.399Like, I I feel like even now I see the perfect mom like out at a restaurant, like no problem nursing their baby.
00:16:16.399 -->
00:16:22.799And I'm like, damn, that was something that just absolutely I tore myself to pieces for months because I couldn't.
00:16:22.799 -->
00:16:23.279Same.
00:16:23.279 -->
00:16:37.279Um, and spent hours and hours a day pumping to be like, okay, at least I like I'll try and feed her with like a and finally I think I gave up after 10 and a half months because I held on to it probably longer than I should have, because I was like, I want to get to a year.
00:16:37.279 -->
00:16:41.279I don't know how I had a crazy that was my goal.
00:16:41.279 -->
00:16:44.000I'd said it like well before I knew what it even meant.
00:16:44.000 -->
00:16:57.919Um and the moment that I stopped, like I I kind of felt my body come back and felt like this huge, like it felt like an anvil was on top of my head for that entire time where you just had this every time I'm writing, I'm like, am I drinking enough?
00:16:57.919 -->
00:16:58.639What am I eating?
00:16:58.639 -->
00:17:00.799Is she gonna be, you know, is this milk gonna be sugary?
00:17:00.799 -->
00:17:01.759Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:17:01.759 -->
00:17:03.360Like, so I don't know.
00:17:03.360 -->
00:17:06.720I think we as moms, you just put that pressure on yourself.
00:17:06.720 -->
00:17:08.640And people told me it was gonna be hard.
00:17:08.640 -->
00:17:15.119Um, but man, I think it's like an if you know, you know kind of thing.
00:17:15.119 -->
00:17:15.839Totally.
00:17:15.839 -->
00:17:23.920And I've heard you talk about it a little bit, and I was like, I feel that a hundred percent, where you're like, I'm trying to do this job that's actively working against this other thing.
00:17:23.920 -->
00:17:26.799You're adding a whole new functionality that your body has never done.
00:17:26.799 -->
00:17:29.599It's like really messing with recovery.
00:17:29.599 -->
00:17:30.160Yeah.
00:17:30.160 -->
00:17:41.039And you, yeah, it g it makes you the mom guilt is almost amplified where you're like, oh, okay, like your dad just gives you a bottle, or like, cool, let me just like, I don't know.
00:17:41.039 -->
00:17:48.160It just makes you feel like you're not good enough, which is so not true in any way, but it's just where your mind goes.
00:17:48.960 -->
00:17:54.880Yeah, you know, it's it's so interesting how we like envision motherhood for ourselves.
00:17:54.880 -->
00:18:06.720And I think the internet is part to blame for this, like how when certain influencers and women are representing what motherhood means online and like the highlight reels of it and how beautiful it looks.
00:18:06.720 -->
00:18:10.799But I um I took this hypnobirthing class and I was pregnant.
00:18:10.799 -->
00:18:16.960And my yeah, my vision was that I was gonna breathe the baby out to like Maggie Rogers.
00:18:16.960 -->
00:18:24.480And she did come out while Maggie Rogers was playing, but I didn't I did not breathe the baby out.
00:18:24.480 -->
00:18:26.799I had like a very medicalized birth.
00:18:26.960 -->
00:18:27.200Yeah.
00:18:27.359 -->
00:18:32.559Um, and I know you had a C-section, which like is not I don't even know what labor feels like.
00:18:32.559 -->
00:18:33.519Right.
00:18:33.759 -->
00:18:34.640It's crazy.
00:18:34.799 -->
00:18:35.119Yeah.
00:18:35.119 -->
00:18:35.680Yeah.
00:18:35.680 -->
00:18:38.640I mean, I was like, I was literally it's so funny.
00:18:38.640 -->
00:18:42.319Like, I was literally apologizing to my husband about getting an epicirl.
00:18:42.319 -->
00:18:43.440Like, I'm so sorry.
00:18:43.440 -->
00:18:46.079I have like failed us in this.
00:18:46.079 -->
00:18:53.599And now I I think what really flipped the switch for me was when she um when she went to school.
00:18:53.759 -->
00:18:53.920Yeah.
00:18:54.240 -->
00:19:06.079And when she went to preschool, and I like she's like so bright and precocious and joyful and like such an awesome kid.
00:19:06.079 -->
00:19:06.480Yeah.
00:19:06.480 -->
00:19:12.240And yeah, it would have been really great if I could have breastfed her and like been whipping my boobs out totally.
00:19:12.240 -->
00:19:14.079Like that would have been great.
00:19:14.079 -->
00:19:15.200No.
00:19:15.440 -->
00:19:16.400Yeah, I know.
00:19:16.799 -->
00:19:17.119I know.
00:19:17.279 -->
00:19:22.000And like if I've had this exactly we've ever had boobs, we're like, what?
00:19:22.000 -->
00:19:23.920Exactly.
00:19:24.640 -->
00:19:27.279You all like show your rack off a little bit.
00:19:27.279 -->
00:19:39.759Um, but yeah, I think like, you know, especially when I gave birth to her and through the breastfeeding experience, I was like, this is a two-way thing.
00:19:39.759 -->
00:19:41.519This is not about what I want.
00:19:41.519 -->
00:19:41.839Yeah.
00:19:41.839 -->
00:19:45.039And you learn really quickly that like Fed is best.
00:19:45.039 -->
00:19:56.559This is about like rearing um uh this tiny human's like blossom into an incredible, like kind, empathetic, cool, awesome person.
00:19:56.720 -->
00:19:57.119Yeah.
00:19:57.359 -->
00:20:00.480You know, it's not about like us flexing how good of parents.
00:20:00.880 -->
00:20:09.680And at that point, I think I would even say now, I don't know if I'm I'm we're getting closer where I'm starting to be parenting, but for a long time it's just keep keeping alive.
00:20:09.680 -->
00:20:15.839Like I was we were talking to our therapist and we were like, okay, like how do we, you know, it what values are we gonna instill in this baby?
00:20:15.839 -->
00:20:17.759And our therapist was like, you have time.
00:20:17.759 -->
00:20:18.960You have time.
00:20:18.960 -->
00:20:21.519Um, she can't really see.
00:20:21.519 -->
00:20:28.079She can maybe see your your hand, like maybe relax on like what values are you gonna put into this tiny baby that looks like a worm?
00:20:28.079 -->
00:20:35.200Like, so yeah, you put so much pressure into like my breastfeeding, because that's kind of the thing that you you focus on at the beginning.
00:20:35.200 -->
00:20:36.880You're like, this is what I'm supposed to do as a mom.
00:20:36.880 -->
00:20:46.880And I think even the birth, it's such oh, the pregnancy, like in that moment, you're like so long, and you're like, the birth is one day, as long as they come out healthy and you're healthy after that, like that's the important thing.
00:20:46.880 -->
00:20:49.759And then from there, like the first year is about keeping them alive.
00:20:49.759 -->
00:20:57.359And now honestly, I'm like or uh Hazel's in the like, just actively trying to put herself in life set threatening situations mode.
00:20:57.359 -->
00:21:00.480And so now I'm really just trying to keep her alive.
00:21:00.480 -->
00:21:06.960But now you've entered like your your daughter is arguably a child, which is I'm like, oh no.
00:21:06.960 -->
00:21:12.720So it's close, but she's out in the world and and being a reflection of your your actual parenting.
00:21:12.720 -->
00:21:18.319And it's I think it is exciting to see when they come home and you're like, wow, I've been a really I've raised a really good daughter.
00:21:18.319 -->
00:21:20.720And that's hopefully something that you can see as well.
00:21:20.720 -->
00:21:30.559Because I can see it only, you know, the little glimpses that I have, but you have raised like a a beautiful little girl that's going out into the world, and and that's I think what's most important.
00:21:30.960 -->
00:21:31.519Thank you.
00:21:31.519 -->
00:21:32.000Thanks.
00:21:32.000 -->
00:21:33.440Yeah, it's really fun.
00:21:33.920 -->
00:21:36.400Um how are you feeling?
00:21:36.400 -->
00:21:45.039I guess going into Kona, my like from the surface, you've talked a little bit about it, uh obviously wasn't a clean run uh in 2022.
00:21:45.039 -->
00:21:48.240Did you know going into that race, you were like, I can win this race?
00:21:48.640 -->
00:21:49.359Absolutely not.
00:21:49.359 -->
00:21:50.160No, absolutely not.
00:21:50.160 -->
00:21:50.720Cool.
00:21:50.720 -->
00:21:59.759Um, no, like it was it was such a shit show, is I like.
00:21:59.759 -->
00:22:07.599Had done my first Iron Man that summer and it went really well, but I kind of fell apart the last 10k.
00:22:07.599 -->
00:22:09.680I wasn't in super shoes yet.
00:22:09.680 -->
00:22:17.359Like I thought I can be really good at this and I loved it, but you know, I had just done one.
00:22:17.359 -->
00:22:19.359So I wasn't an expert or anything.
00:22:19.359 -->
00:22:21.680And then I went to Europe that summer.
00:22:21.680 -->
00:22:25.519Um, and I flew over there alone with Skye.
00:22:25.519 -->
00:22:29.599And I actually harder than an Iron Man?
00:22:29.599 -->
00:22:30.240What was harder?
00:22:30.240 -->
00:22:44.000That flight or so my coach convinced me to like go to this training camp in Spain before this race I was doing in Slovakia, and I flew in a nanny who I had never met before, who was recommended to be.
00:22:44.000 -->
00:22:46.480Shout out Sydney, she is a goddess.
00:22:46.480 -->
00:22:50.160Like it ended up working out really well, and I love her so much.
00:22:50.160 -->
00:22:53.680Um she was great with Sky, but like I never met her before.
00:22:53.680 -->
00:23:07.279I fly to S I fly with Sky to Spain, and like I my husband was a new firefighter at Reno FD, and I was like on a pretty small like small contract.
00:23:07.279 -->
00:23:14.720So I like booked the cheapest flight I could find on Expedia, and I it was like 13 hours total to get there.
00:23:14.720 -->
00:23:22.000And as we were taking off an SFO, like my first flight was delayed, which meant I was gonna miss my connection.
00:23:22.000 -->
00:23:34.400Like I already knew things were gonna go bad, and I had like baby bjorn, bike, suitcase, travel crib, travel car seat, like just me.
00:23:34.400 -->
00:23:43.839So and I'm like starting to cry as I'm checking in for the flight, and my dad had like taken us to the airport, and he looks at me and he goes, You don't have to do this to yourself.
00:23:43.839 -->
00:23:47.119And um, I was like, I kind of do have to do it to myself.
00:23:47.119 -->
00:23:48.640And in it now, but yeah.
00:23:48.640 -->
00:23:49.599I'm kind of in it.
00:23:49.599 -->
00:23:56.640Like we got stuck in Dublin overnight, and like we're not on the time zone.
00:23:56.640 -->
00:23:57.920We finally get to Spain.
00:23:57.920 -->
00:24:03.759Like, I had a good training block, but you know, it took her like at least a week to adjust to Europe times.
00:24:03.759 -->
00:24:06.559Like we're up at all times of the night.
00:24:06.559 -->
00:24:13.039Um, I like messed up my back, like carrying her in the baby bjorn, like all over the world.
00:24:13.039 -->
00:24:19.839On the way home, I was like at I had a shitty race in Europe.
00:24:19.839 -->
00:24:24.000Um and I'm flying with I'm flying with her on the way home.
00:24:24.000 -->
00:24:30.720And we're in economy, and I can already tell peeps around me are not stoked for her to be there.
00:24:30.720 -->
00:24:37.519And I flagged down the flight attendant, I was like, excuse me, how much is it gonna be for me to upgrade to business?
00:24:37.519 -->
00:24:39.119And she goes, a thousand dollars.
00:24:39.119 -->
00:24:40.960And I was like, no problem, here's my credit card.
00:24:40.960 -->
00:24:43.920And she couldn't get her credit card machine to work.
00:24:43.920 -->
00:24:49.279And so she's like, just come on up and I'll like we can figure it out up there.
00:24:49.519 -->
00:24:49.839Right.
00:24:50.240 -->
00:24:50.960Which is great.
00:24:50.960 -->
00:24:57.119And we get up there and we're having all the like business class snacks, and like, Sky, we have arrived.
00:24:57.119 -->
00:24:58.960Everything is awesome now.
00:24:58.960 -->
00:25:00.880It's got we're gonna be okay.
00:25:00.880 -->
00:25:02.960The people in business class were like, oh great.
00:25:03.039 -->
00:25:03.440I'm sorry.
00:25:03.440 -->
00:25:09.119She's like, she's like 15 months old at this point, very mobile.
00:25:09.119 -->
00:25:13.119I mean, as someone that is a 14 month old, you're like, holy moly.
00:25:13.279 -->
00:25:13.599Yeah.
00:25:13.599 -->
00:25:18.480And um, she the people in business class decide that they want to take a nap.
00:25:18.480 -->
00:25:27.519And and it's like the middle of the day, and so they turn the lights off, and she's not she doesn't want to take a nap, she wants to party.
00:25:27.519 -->
00:25:30.160Like it's not her, it's not her nap time.
00:25:30.160 -->
00:25:35.200And the flight attendant, she's like losing it.
00:25:35.200 -->
00:25:44.240I take her into the bathroom and I'm like, you need to get your shit together.
00:25:44.240 -->
00:25:47.039I just like we'll never forget that.
00:25:47.039 -->
00:25:49.599I think I was like, you need to get your effing shit together.
00:25:49.599 -->
00:25:52.079Like, she's not talking, like, I don't know.
00:25:52.079 -->
00:25:55.200And then the flight attendant is like, you're gonna need to follow me.
00:25:55.200 -->
00:26:08.720And she makes me take Sky to the very we walk through economy, we go to the very back of the plane, and she makes me stand in the back of the plane, like trying to get Sky to sleep for like three hours.
00:26:09.119 -->
00:26:11.359Whoa, that's crazy.
00:26:11.519 -->
00:26:14.960And so, yeah, this is like six or seven weeks out from Kona.
00:26:14.960 -->
00:26:19.279I get home, Sky and I get super, super sick.
00:26:19.279 -->
00:26:24.799No, no, and and I'm like, I'm like, Steve, I don't think this is for me.
00:26:24.799 -->
00:26:30.000I don't think that this is, I don't think that I should be doing this anymore.
00:26:30.000 -->
00:26:31.680This is too hard.
00:26:31.680 -->
00:26:35.920I don't think that like momming and trial are compatible.
00:26:35.920 -->
00:26:41.920And I had had this training camp at Kona planned where I was gonna go like with my dad and a training partner.
00:26:41.920 -->
00:26:44.720And Steve goes, just get on the plane.
00:26:44.720 -->
00:26:48.960If you don't start feeling better soon, you can have a vacation in Hawaii by yourself.
00:26:48.960 -->
00:26:50.880And I was like, I could do that.
00:26:50.880 -->
00:26:55.839As like a totally exhausted new mom, I was like, I could do vacation Hawaii.
00:26:56.079 -->
00:26:56.240Yeah.
00:26:56.559 -->
00:27:01.039And um the first the first week there was horrible.
00:27:01.039 -->
00:27:02.640Like I was so sick.
00:27:02.640 -->
00:27:05.599My training partner was dropping me on every ride.
00:27:05.599 -->
00:27:07.279I was like losing it.
00:27:07.279 -->
00:27:09.440And the second week I started coming around.
00:27:09.440 -->
00:27:12.000I really like nailed the last couple sessions.
00:27:12.000 -->
00:27:17.920And then I came back to California for a couple of weeks and was just like crushing everything.
00:27:17.920 -->
00:27:19.680And I had no idea what it meant.
00:27:19.680 -->
00:27:22.319Like I was just doing the training my coach told me to do.
00:27:22.319 -->
00:27:23.039Fair.
00:27:23.039 -->
00:27:29.680And um, I remember during race week, my team managers were like, Oh, it'd be great if she'd get top 10.
00:27:29.680 -->
00:27:32.640And Steve, my husband, was like, She's gonna be on the podium.
00:27:32.640 -->
00:27:34.640And they were like, nah, it's her first one.
00:27:34.640 -->
00:27:36.319Like, it'd be great if she'd get top 10.
00:27:36.319 -->
00:27:38.640He was like, She's gonna be on the podium.
00:27:38.640 -->
00:27:39.359Yeah.
00:27:39.599 -->
00:27:41.200And um Steve.
00:27:41.680 -->
00:27:49.039And uh it's really important to have a partner who like is in it with you and believes that you know you can do the things, especially when you don't believe in yourself.
00:27:49.039 -->
00:27:50.160Um I agree with that.
00:27:50.160 -->
00:27:52.799And then, you know, I was so nervous.
00:27:52.799 -->
00:27:59.440Like I I had no expectations, I had no media, I wasn't invited to like any press conferences or anything.
00:27:59.440 -->
00:28:06.240And um, the morning of the race, I was like, Steve, what happens if like this doesn't go well?
00:28:06.240 -->
00:28:08.160And he goes, Nothing happens.
00:28:08.160 -->
00:28:15.759Like we just go back to our life and like yeah, yeah, you know, we have an awesome life, or we're happy and healthy, like I have a great job.
00:28:15.759 -->
00:28:17.440You're it's fine.
00:28:17.440 -->
00:28:18.640It's all good.
00:28:18.640 -->
00:28:26.000And I think that just freed me up to focus on myself and like do my thing and let the race come to me.
00:28:26.000 -->
00:28:33.839And um yeah, it was a magical day where I just did what I was capable of, and that ended up being the win.
00:28:34.160 -->
00:28:35.440It's pretty awesome.
00:28:35.440 -->
00:28:39.839Uh, to relate it back to this podcast, the regular good stuff, to go out there and do your regular good stuff.
00:28:39.839 -->
00:28:42.480It's pretty cool that yours was winning the world championship.
00:28:42.480 -->
00:28:45.039It was really cool.
00:28:45.039 -->
00:29:01.759How I guess since then, um, as someone that's never won a world championship or even a big race, how does it feel to now go back with I guess the pressure?
00:29:01.759 -->
00:29:04.960Can you still line up and say what's the worst that happens?
00:29:04.960 -->
00:29:12.799Or is there now a pressure that like people now know who you are and you have a little bit more eyeballs on you?
00:29:12.799 -->
00:29:14.960How does that how does that change things?
00:29:15.359 -->
00:29:17.680No, I think the pressure has been lifted quite a bit.
00:29:17.680 -->
00:29:24.720You know, I um I felt a lot of pressure the last like three years, I would say.
00:29:24.720 -->
00:29:31.839And um I have dealt with a lot of adversity.
00:29:31.839 -->
00:29:38.319You know, I was like had some like serious health stuff going on last year, and then I had surgery on my ankle this year.
00:29:38.319 -->
00:29:41.920So I think I don't think there are a lot of eyeballs on me.
00:29:41.920 -->
00:29:46.240I don't think there are a lot of expectations, and that's totally cool.
00:29:46.240 -->
00:29:46.960Yeah, it's fine.
00:29:46.960 -->
00:29:51.839Do my really good stuff.
00:29:52.160 -->
00:29:52.559I love that.
00:29:52.720 -->
00:29:53.359Yeah, exactly.
00:29:53.359 -->
00:29:55.200And I think that's all we can do, right?
00:29:55.200 -->
00:30:14.720Like we can do what we're capable of, and of course, like race day can bring out the best in us, but ultimately, like as you know, in these really long endurance races that we do, like you like you have to focus on your skill set and your fitness and your preparation.
00:30:14.720 -->
00:30:20.160So so I think like it's yeah, it's nice to have that like external pressure off.
00:30:20.160 -->
00:30:26.640And of course, like I put pressure on myself and I really want to do well, but it's more for me now.
00:30:26.640 -->
00:30:35.680And I think I think I felt a lot of pressure to like prove that maybe I wasn't a fluke or that like I really was as good as you know.
00:30:36.960 -->
00:30:41.519A fluke is a crazy thing to say because I the flukiest of flukes could all happen.
00:30:41.519 -->
00:30:44.559Every single person that I'm about could get a flat and I still wouldn't win.
00:30:44.799 -->
00:30:47.759So I don't know about that, my friend.
00:30:49.759 -->
00:30:51.279I think you're too hard for yourself.
00:30:51.279 -->
00:30:52.720Yeah.
00:30:52.720 -->
00:31:05.119I think it's one of those I I feel similar in this year where it's been a shift in a mindset for me, where pre-pregnancy or baby, I was so concerned with like how was the lead up and what how am I gonna do?
00:31:05.119 -->
00:31:06.880And it's compared to everyone else.
00:31:06.880 -->
00:31:16.240And I feel like I've been able this year to set goals for my own self, um, which has been really refreshing, where you're like, I've never done this race nine months postpartum.
00:31:16.240 -->
00:31:18.319Let me see what I can do.
00:31:18.319 -->
00:31:28.319Um, and kind of going it almost reset to feeling like I was totally new again, where you're going into these races, being like, I'm unsure what my body can do because I've never done it since having a baby.
00:31:28.319 -->
00:31:32.559Um, and I've been really pleasantly surprised with kind of what I've been able to do.
00:31:32.559 -->
00:31:49.359I think you talked about this a little bit before, where your win was historic, but then because you had a baby, it was like exponentially more like I don't know, marketable is kind of a crazy thing to say, but like people paid attention on a different level.
00:31:49.359 -->
00:32:04.400Um and I found that a little bit as well, where like you had a New York Times article written about you, and like I don't think, I don't even know who won last year, but like whoever won last year at Kona, um, I don't think they got a New York Times article.
00:32:04.400 -->
00:32:12.240So it's one of those where like it is as being a mom now, like I do understand kind of how crazy it is.
00:32:12.240 -->
00:32:19.279But I think even people that haven't had been a parent watch that and they go, holy moly, like that's a really incredible um thing to do.
00:32:19.279 -->
00:32:25.839On a very, I was thinking to myself, I was like, wow, I feel like the team version of of Chelsea because I did Unbound.
00:32:25.839 -->
00:32:28.319I finished Unbound, Nine Punds Postpartum.
00:32:28.319 -->
00:32:36.240Um, but I had a New York Times article written about me, but it was kind of this, I was like, okay, so Chelsea wins and then New York Times, and then I finish, but New York Post.
00:32:36.240 -->
00:32:39.440So like New York Post, New York Times, like is very funny.
00:32:39.440 -->
00:32:47.039But it was the same where you're like, people care about the story um almost more than the result, which I think is very cool.
00:32:47.039 -->
00:32:57.599Um, and that's something that I've been very fortunate um to kind of lean into this year, where it's more about the storytelling um than the actual place that you came in.
00:32:57.599 -->
00:33:02.640Um so hopefully this year where you can tell a tell a cool story.
00:33:03.039 -->
00:33:03.279Yeah.
00:33:03.279 -->
00:33:09.759I and I think that's what's so like magical and fortunate about the moment that we're living in, right?
00:33:09.759 -->
00:33:11.599Is that we get to tell our own stories.
00:33:11.599 -->
00:33:20.640Like we don't have to rely on like the media to like we don't have to put that in somebody else's hands, you know.
00:33:20.640 -->
00:33:23.119Like we can really control over our narrative.
00:33:23.119 -->
00:33:25.519Yeah, which is really cool.
00:33:25.759 -->
00:33:28.160Um I think that segues a little bit.
00:33:28.160 -->
00:33:32.400You've been really, really amazing about being an advocate for other women.
00:33:32.400 -->
00:33:36.079Um, so like when I first announced I was pregnant, we didn't know each other.
00:33:36.079 -->
00:33:42.640You sent me a message on Instagram and you were like, hey, like if you need anything, here's my here's my number, text me, call me.
00:33:42.640 -->
00:33:45.680And I really appreciated that because it really does.
00:33:45.680 -->
00:33:57.200I think in triathlon, there have been, I think you were a little bit of a trailblazer, but there Holly and Sky and a few others now um have kind of followed your lead and it feels a little bit more established.
00:33:57.200 -->
00:33:59.599Um, but in gravel it was kind of new.
00:33:59.599 -->
00:34:10.960And since our gravel sport is a little bit um less established, I'll say at this point, there isn't until this year, we're getting our first like maternity clauses in racing and things like that.
00:34:10.960 -->
00:34:23.920And I think um just having you reach out made a huge impact for me because I was like, okay, like we I have someone that's done this before that like maybe can help lead and and give me a little bit of direction as to where to go with this.
00:34:23.920 -->
00:34:34.320And I think the more women that we have that are kind of blazing this trail, it becomes less of an individual story and more of a collective, which I think is very cool.
00:34:34.880 -->
00:34:38.239Yeah, you know, I didn't start triathlon until my late 20s.
00:34:38.239 -->
00:34:46.320Like this hasn't been a lifelong dream of mine to be competing at, you know, the Iron Man World Championships.
00:34:46.320 -->
00:34:49.920Like I didn't grow up thinking like, I didn't even know I could be a professional athlete when I was a kid.
00:34:49.920 -->
00:34:53.199Like I this wasn't kind of my vision for my life.
00:34:53.199 -->
00:35:07.519And and in a sense, I feel like I'm lucky that I happen to fall into this thing that I'm really good at and that has provided me this super cool career where I get to like exert train and exercise for a living in a lot of ways.
00:35:07.519 -->
00:35:15.519But more than anything, I think this is like my vehicle to affect change and impact my community and the world positively.
00:35:15.519 -->
00:35:21.599And I really felt like, you know, in 2022, when I crossed that finish line, I was like, what am I gonna do with this?
00:35:21.599 -->
00:35:24.480Like, this isn't that meaningful, right?
00:35:24.480 -->
00:35:32.719Like this is cool and fun, but it's not that meaningful unless something bigger comes out of it.
00:35:33.199 -->
00:35:37.119And because I think that's one of the coolest mentalities to have.
00:35:37.119 -->
00:35:41.760Like, just to be like, I think my mom asks us a lot, like what impact are you gonna have on the world?
00:35:41.760 -->
00:35:49.920And a lot of the times, at least before, I've been like, wow, just yes, I'm inspiring people to do big rides, but I'm inevitably riding my bike in a circle.
00:35:49.920 -->
00:35:51.920Like, what impact is that really having?
00:35:51.920 -->
00:36:02.559Um, and I think your mentality with like, okay, this is a really cool thing that I've done, but what beyond this race result, what can I do with it, which is really unique and really important.
00:36:02.960 -->
00:36:03.599Thank you.
00:36:03.599 -->
00:36:04.320Thanks.
00:36:04.320 -->
00:36:11.840And, you know, I've like been lucky to be able to get a lot of like support behind that mission.
00:36:11.840 -->
00:36:21.920And a really good friend of mine, Alicia Montano, she has had already started this incredible foundation called it was called Ann Mother at the time.
00:36:21.920 -->
00:36:23.920It's called For All Mothers Now.
00:36:23.920 -->
00:36:35.599And they have like given grants to some of my colleagues, like women that I'm racing against, like Sarah True, um, who was you know on the podium with me in 2023.
00:36:35.599 -->
00:36:41.039Um, Gwen Jorgensen, I think Jocelyn Macaulay, Sarah Piampiano.
00:36:41.039 -->
00:36:44.639And I've been able to like get involved.
00:36:44.639 -->
00:36:54.480I'm on the board of the organization now and have fundraised for them a fair amount, but they give grants to postpartum female athletes pregnant postpartum female athletes.
00:36:54.480 -->
00:37:00.800They help races put lactation stations and child care, implement lactation stations and child care.
00:37:00.800 -->
00:37:15.920Um, and they also like one of the most important things that they do is they consult with companies and businesses and organizations on best family and maternity leave practices and policies, which um I care a lot about.
00:37:15.920 -->
00:37:22.400It's like been one of my biggest missions since the win is like, how can I get my partners to implement these things?
00:37:22.400 -->
00:37:30.639Like, how can I make sure that my sport as a whole is like protecting women when they choose family during the middle of their careers?
00:37:30.639 -->
00:37:34.320And this is where you and I get to come together and meet CRL.
00:37:36.239 -->
00:37:36.639Same.
00:37:36.639 -->
00:37:42.079I've never met in person, but uh perfect segue.
00:37:42.079 -->
00:37:47.280Um, Chelsea hosts an event um up in Northern California called Unlocking Yes.
00:37:47.280 -->
00:37:48.880And you want to talk about it a little bit?
00:37:48.880 -->
00:37:49.280Yeah.
00:37:49.679 -->
00:37:52.000This year I'm really excited because I get to go.
00:37:52.000 -->
00:37:52.559I know.
00:37:52.559 -->
00:37:53.599I'm so stoked.
00:37:53.599 -->
00:37:54.719We're gonna have such a blast.
00:37:54.719 -->
00:37:57.519But um, we had our first uh event last year.
00:37:57.519 -->
00:37:58.880It's called Unlocking Yes.
00:37:58.880 -->
00:38:00.239It's in beautiful St.
00:38:00.239 -->
00:38:02.079Helena, California.
00:38:02.079 -->
00:38:10.000Uh, it's hosted at Gott's Ranch, which is this like incredible private venue in wine country.
00:38:10.000 -->
00:38:12.559And we start off with a run with on.
00:38:12.559 -->
00:38:16.480We're gonna demo some shoes, go on this really great run.
00:38:16.480 -->
00:38:22.079Um, it's gonna be led by an on trail athlete, actually, which will be cool.
00:38:22.079 -->
00:38:36.239And then we will have a panel with me and is, uh fertility specialist named Tamika Zor, uh, hosted by Naomi Clarkson, who is the head of marketing at Momentous, like a total badass in in our industry.
00:38:36.239 -->
00:38:40.960And then we're gonna have uh a dinner by a Michelin star chef named Matthew Ocarino.
00:38:40.960 -->
00:38:42.960We will do wine from GOTS.
00:38:42.960 -->
00:38:53.360Um, and the next day we're gonna do a bike ride with my um bike partner Ventum uh through wine country and have a great lunch, great snacks.
00:38:53.360 -->
00:38:56.639And I really believe in the value of community.
00:38:56.639 -->
00:39:09.519I believe in like getting FaceTime with people who support me and my mission, and it's just this great opportunity to get together in a beautiful place and enjoy the finer things in life.
00:39:09.519 -->
00:39:14.639Um, and all the proceeds go to for all mothers, which is which is really great.
00:39:14.880 -->
00:39:16.000I'm really excited for it.
00:39:16.000 -->
00:39:17.519I think it's gonna be a really good event.
00:39:17.519 -->
00:39:21.519And I agree it's one of the best um causes I've seen.
00:39:21.519 -->
00:39:30.639Um, and I think as an athlete, it's interesting because maternity leave generally starts when you have the baby.
00:39:30.639 -->
00:39:48.239But I think as an athlete for us, it's a little bit flipped where like maternity leave is kind of when you're pregnant and can't really do your job, and then you're expected to kind of get back to it as soon as you're you don't have a baby inside of you, um, which is an insane kind of mental battle to go through.
00:39:48.239 -->
00:39:50.320People ask me, like, oh, like when are you going back to work?
00:39:50.320 -->
00:39:55.440And I was like, I'm kind of back to work as soon as I can ride my bike again, which is crazy.
00:39:55.440 -->
00:40:00.880Um, which is, I don't know, in Europe, like women get a year uh off regular jobs.
00:40:00.880 -->
00:40:09.760So like you as an athlete, you're expecting I think you raced like three months postpartum, um, which is I don't even know if I'd gone on outside bike ride yet.
00:40:10.480 -->
00:40:19.599Yeah, you know, I raced, I I guess like to back off, I was so afraid um to tell my partners that I was parking.
00:40:20.079 -->
00:40:20.239Yeah.
00:40:20.400 -->
00:40:34.719Like I was in a contract year, and I actually like didn't share the news until after, like until the next year, like the next year, and I was like truly terrified.
00:40:34.719 -->
00:40:51.599And what's been so cool to me, I mean, this is like six years ago now, and what's so cool to me is to see, you know, an athlete like you, which like from my perspective, you were like incredibly visible during your pregnancy.
00:40:51.599 -->
00:40:54.000You were like working your ass off during your pregnancy.
00:40:54.000 -->
00:40:55.360That was not a maternity leave.
00:40:55.360 -->
00:41:05.920You know, you were going to all these events, you were doing a ton of storytelling about your experience, and like you're probably the most marketable that you've ever been during that period of time.
00:41:05.920 -->
00:41:06.800Yeah.
00:41:06.800 -->
00:41:07.199Yeah.
00:41:07.199 -->
00:41:15.039And like what an incredible um, I don't know, it makes me like really hopeful for the future.
00:41:15.039 -->
00:41:22.800And also, I just like feel excited that hopefully, um, hopefully your brands don't feel like you were on a maternity leave during that period of time.
00:41:22.800 -->
00:41:28.000Because from my perspective, like you were very much doing your job as like an athlete marketing your partners.
00:41:28.320 -->
00:41:29.519I don't think they I don't think they did.
00:41:29.519 -->
00:41:33.920And I think it's one of those, it's an interesting comparison, gravel versus triathlon.
00:41:33.920 -->
00:41:42.719I think there's a lot more, I don't know if storytelling is the right thing, but triathlon is still, at least from my perspective, very real results driven.
00:41:42.719 -->
00:41:50.559Um whereas in Gravel, like people, yes, people care about who wins in the top five and things like that, but there is more of a element.
00:41:50.559 -->
00:41:59.760Um a lot of my brands at least have been with me more from the storytelling social media side of it rather than um being the top athlete.
00:41:59.760 -->
00:42:03.039I think more of that pressure comes from me because I don't like losing.
00:42:03.039 -->
00:42:04.559I don't like being slow.
00:42:04.559 -->
00:42:12.079Um but I think it's it was interesting going into, I was also re-signing contracts when I found I was I found out I was pregnant.
00:42:12.079 -->
00:42:16.960And I was like, man, first of all, I don't want to immediately tell them because what if this, what if I'm not pregnant?
00:42:16.960 -->
00:42:20.000And then whoops, you know, like what if something goes wrong?
00:42:20.000 -->
00:42:23.199Then you don't want to have done this whole reggae memorable and been like, whoops.
00:42:23.199 -->
00:42:31.519Um and one of the things my athlete manager told me, he was like, We like I've worked with a lot of these brands before or for years before, and he's like, I think we know who they are.
00:42:31.519 -->
00:42:35.119Like, I think this is gonna be a good thing, but you never know.
00:42:35.119 -->
00:42:42.239Um, and it was incredibly, incredibly kind of a relief to say, wow, everyone was super supportive.
00:42:42.239 -->
00:42:47.199Um, and then re-signed or kept their contracts through this year in postpartum.
00:42:47.199 -->
00:42:51.679And it's one of those now it's contract season, and a few of my contracts are up for renewal.
00:42:51.679 -->
00:42:57.599And I am more insecure now than I have been previously.
00:42:57.599 -->
00:43:07.119Um, where I do think that I'm I am still marketable, but it was one of those this year I expect to be back racing a full calendar and doing everything.
00:43:07.119 -->
00:43:09.440And I did two races, and yes, they were really hard.
00:43:09.440 -->
00:43:15.599And I, you know, had a lot of stress like behind the two races, but I only raced twice and I didn't do a full calendar.
00:43:15.599 -->
00:43:17.119So I'm like, am I still good enough?
00:43:17.119 -->
00:43:18.480Am I still adding value?
00:43:18.480 -->
00:43:29.519Whereas I wouldn't have guessed that the year that I was pregnant was like as much I wouldn't have predicted that it would have been as much of a success as it was, if that makes sense.
00:43:29.519 -->
00:43:35.119Like I almost feel like the postpartum, I don't want to, I don't know, I've had moments where I'm like, did I let people down?
00:43:35.119 -->
00:43:40.239Because my message in in pregnancy was like that you can do it, you can do it all, you can still be there.
00:43:40.239 -->
00:43:45.360And in retrospect, the pregnant part was really the easy part because I felt pretty good in pregnancy.
00:43:45.360 -->
00:43:48.559I had a relatively easy pregnancy, so I could be going to all those events.
00:43:48.559 -->
00:43:50.800And Hazel was incredibly portable.
00:43:50.800 -->
00:43:53.199She didn't have a lot of stuff, she just hung out in my stomach.
00:43:53.199 -->
00:43:54.800It was pretty easy.
00:43:54.800 -->
00:43:59.760And now going to race is like she's her own independent woman and she's gonna wake up at two in the morning the day.
00:43:59.760 -->
00:44:05.360Of the race, and she's gonna have her own, you know, all of her own suitcase and luggage and all of this.
00:44:05.360 -->
00:44:10.320And so I think I've tried to be open and honest with that storytelling.
00:44:10.320 -->
00:44:15.039Um, but it is like inherently you get insecure about like, do I still have a place in this sport?
00:44:15.039 -->
00:44:17.920And and is my message so one that matters?
00:44:18.239 -->
00:44:18.480Yeah.
00:44:18.480 -->
00:44:28.000I mean, at least like from the outside looking in, I think like I just look at you know, the earned media that you're getting, and that's not something that a lot of your competitors are getting, right?
00:44:28.000 -->
00:44:32.639Because you have this incredible, incredibly compelling story, and you're really good at telling it.
00:44:32.639 -->
00:44:34.559So I don't know.
00:44:34.559 -->
00:44:34.960Yeah.
00:44:34.960 -->
00:44:35.920I'm optimistic.
00:44:35.920 -->
00:44:38.960And if your life's not chaos chaotic enough, stop a podcast.
00:44:38.960 -->
00:44:42.159Yeah, it's so funny.
00:44:42.159 -->
00:44:51.360Like I I was in Kona for two weeks and I was training a ton, so I felt like I was, you know, like full, very busy, busy.
00:44:51.360 -->
00:44:51.519Yeah.
00:44:51.519 -->
00:44:55.599But then I came here to California for a couple weeks and I'm like kind of tapering.
00:44:55.599 -->
00:45:00.159And I I literally don't know what I did before I had a kid.
00:45:00.159 -->
00:45:02.079I'm just like twiddling my thumbs.
00:45:02.079 -->
00:45:03.679Were we just staring at the wall?
00:45:03.679 -->
00:45:04.960I don't know.
00:45:04.960 -->
00:45:15.920I was like, I guess, I guess like people, and one of my instructions from my team is like, Chelsea, please don't take on any new projects like right now, leading into Kona.
00:45:15.920 -->
00:45:17.519Like, we know you have time.
00:45:17.519 -->
00:45:19.679We know you feel good and happy.
00:45:19.679 -->
00:45:20.320Please don't.
00:45:20.320 -->
00:45:21.679You did this podcast.
00:45:21.679 -->
00:45:23.039Yeah, no, that'll be fine with that.
00:45:23.039 -->
00:45:27.119But but if I were to start a podcast right now, like it would be a problem, which is something that I would do.
00:45:27.119 -->
00:45:28.159I'd be like, I feel great.
00:45:28.159 -->
00:45:28.880I have so much time.
00:45:28.880 -->
00:45:30.239Like, I should start practice.
00:45:30.239 -->
00:45:32.000Um only an hour of a week.
00:45:32.000 -->
00:45:33.519Like, I should write a book.
00:45:33.519 -->
00:45:38.159Um, but I'm like, oh my, like, is this what athletes do?
00:45:38.159 -->
00:45:41.679Like, they just like Netflix and recover and chill.
00:45:41.679 -->
00:45:43.039I I I guess.
00:45:43.039 -->
00:45:43.440Yeah.
00:45:43.679 -->
00:45:49.599I did my first trip, uh, take it, it was 24 hours, but I went to I did my first trip solo without Hazel.
00:45:49.599 -->
00:45:54.719And I showed up to the airport and I was like, wait a second, I used to think traveling was stressful.
00:45:54.719 -->
00:45:57.920Like I'm drinking a coffee at the pace that I want.
00:45:57.920 -->
00:46:02.320Like, I checked my bags, like we got delayed on the track, and I was like, no problem.
00:46:02.320 -->
00:46:04.079Like, this is amazing.
00:46:04.079 -->
00:46:04.880I don't care.
00:46:04.880 -->
00:46:08.239Whereas like when you travel with a baby, you're like, oh my God.
00:46:08.639 -->
00:46:11.840No, travel flying by yourself is a vacation now.
00:46:12.079 -->
00:46:13.519It was, I was like, it's a slide.
00:46:13.519 -->
00:46:16.320I was like in the Delta Lounge, being like, Yes, I will.
00:46:16.320 -->
00:46:17.519Should I have a mimosa?
00:46:17.519 -->
00:46:18.320It's 8 a.m.
00:46:18.639 -->
00:46:34.719Like Yeah, I mean, I remember like those first, you know, those first like early days right after you have your baby, like the first time you go out and you like do something by yourself, like you go for a walk by yourself or like you drive somewhere by yourself, and you're like, I feel like a grocery store.
00:46:34.880 -->
00:46:35.840I still remember it.
00:46:35.840 -->
00:46:37.280I was like, this is crazy.
00:46:37.280 -->
00:46:40.559Do people know that I'm a new mom and out here in the world by myself?
00:46:40.559 -->
00:46:44.880Like, look at this craziness, going shopping for groceries.
00:46:44.880 -->
00:46:45.679Yeah.
00:46:45.679 -->
00:46:48.000It is no.
00:46:48.000 -->
00:46:51.039So what is your one week out now?
00:46:51.039 -->
00:46:52.960What does the next week look for like for you?
00:46:52.960 -->
00:46:53.920When do you go to Kona?
00:46:53.920 -->
00:46:56.639The time change is actually kind of nice because it's the opposite way.
00:46:56.639 -->
00:46:57.920So you don't really have to get used to it.
00:46:57.920 -->
00:46:59.440Going there to go to bed early, right?
00:46:59.440 -->
00:47:01.039And wake up at the crack.
00:47:01.440 -->
00:47:06.159Exactly, which is kind of perfect for doing an early, like getting ready to make early race anyway.
00:47:06.159 -->
00:47:07.119I love going.
00:47:07.119 -->
00:47:08.960It's the best to go west.
00:47:08.960 -->
00:47:10.159100%.
00:47:10.159 -->
00:47:14.079Um, yeah, I fly in tomorrow.
00:47:14.079 -->
00:47:15.679My husband's meeting me there.
00:47:15.679 -->
00:47:18.559I haven't seen him in two and a half weeks, which will be like really great to see him.
00:47:18.559 -->
00:47:23.360He's bringing like a lot of stuff for me because I'm a high maintenance diva.
00:47:23.360 -->
00:47:23.840Yeah.
00:47:23.840 -->
00:47:26.960Um, yeah, thank you.
00:47:26.960 -->
00:47:31.519And then um, yeah, just race, just like race prep.
00:47:31.519 -->
00:47:37.039I don't I don't have like a ton of commitments, which is really a treat.
00:47:37.360 -->
00:47:37.760It's nice.
00:47:37.760 -->
00:47:38.400Silver lining.
00:47:38.400 -->
00:47:40.239Like the leading into the race.
00:47:40.239 -->
00:47:43.039Yeah, you're kind of like, okay, the work is done, the hay is in the barn.
00:47:43.039 -->
00:47:47.280Like take a deep breath and honestly just don't do anything crazy that messes it up.
00:47:47.280 -->
00:47:48.800I know, right?
00:47:48.800 -->
00:47:49.280Yeah.
00:47:49.280 -->
00:47:51.119So don't say yes to too much.
00:47:51.119 -->
00:47:52.079No more podcasts.
00:47:52.079 -->
00:47:53.039Exactly.
00:47:55.599 -->
00:47:57.519Um, yeah, no, it'll be really fun.
00:47:57.519 -->
00:47:58.880It'll be great to get there.
00:47:58.880 -->
00:48:03.599And I'll just it's just about like keeping my cool until the the canon goes off.
00:48:03.920 -->
00:48:04.320Surely.
00:48:04.320 -->
00:48:05.760And you race Saturday?
00:48:05.760 -->
00:48:06.639Yeah, Saturday.
00:48:06.639 -->
00:48:09.039I'm so excited.
00:48:09.039 -->
00:48:09.760That'll be fun.
00:48:09.760 -->
00:48:12.800It's a really fun live fee to to tune into.
00:48:12.800 -->
00:48:13.920It is fun.
00:48:13.920 -->
00:48:16.000And it's all day, so you can like live your life.
00:48:16.000 -->
00:48:18.400You know, you like watch a little bit in the morning and then you like to be able to do it.
00:48:18.400 -->
00:48:23.119Are there still response available if people are hearing this and wanting to join us?
00:48:23.119 -->
00:48:24.960What'd you say?
00:48:24.960 -->
00:48:29.920I said, are people uh for after Kona, you get to then drink wine in Napa.
00:48:29.920 -->
00:48:34.960Um are there still spots available if people want to come join us?
00:48:35.360 -->
00:48:38.639Yes, come join us in wine country after Kona.
00:48:38.639 -->

00:48:44.320 -->
00:48:46.480It's gonna be a blast.
00:48:46.480 -->
00:48:51.679Um, and you can sign up at ChelseaSidRo.com slash unlocking yes.
00:48:51.920 -->
00:48:52.880It's gonna be awesome.
00:48:52.880 -->
00:48:53.679I'm really excited.
00:48:53.679 -->
00:48:55.440It's gonna be, I think, my second trip.
00:48:55.440 -->
00:48:58.320So I will also be on full vacation mode.
00:48:58.320 -->
00:49:02.320You'll be drinking some Joel Gott wine with me, hopefully.
00:49:02.320 -->
00:49:03.599I'm so excited.
00:49:03.599 -->
00:49:06.320Um, too much wine that we can't ride.
00:49:06.320 -->
00:49:09.760I've also been not to I've been training for the run.
00:49:09.760 -->
00:49:11.360I uh have you?
00:49:11.360 -->
00:49:12.239I have.
00:49:12.239 -->
00:49:17.119I don't want to get I can't get like dropped by everyone, uh everyone at the event.
00:49:17.119 -->
00:49:18.559I need to be able to keep up.
00:49:18.559 -->
00:49:20.239You've been training with a stroller too.
00:49:20.239 -->
00:49:25.840I have been training with a stroller, so it's gonna be incredibly liberating to not be ready to go in front of me.
00:49:25.840 -->
00:49:29.280I have one final question.
00:49:29.280 -->
00:49:32.159Um Do mom Wats exist?
00:49:32.159 -->
00:49:35.360Because I am still searching for them.
00:49:36.800 -->
00:49:38.400Okay, here's what I'll say.
00:49:38.400 -->
00:49:43.199I don't necessarily believe in the like physiological idea of mom strength.
00:49:43.199 -->
00:49:56.320I think that like all of I think that the sleep deprivation and the energy demands and the like nervous system stress negates any like physiological blood boost that you may get.
00:49:56.320 -->
00:50:04.880However, however, caveat you are more resilient than you have ever been in your life.
00:50:04.880 -->
00:50:08.559Like you are capable of so much more.
00:50:08.559 -->
00:50:18.079And I also think like the things that would have rattled you or been like upsetting or made you like frazzled before now, you're like no big deal.
00:50:18.079 -->
00:50:21.119So I just truly no problem.
00:50:21.119 -->
00:50:31.280So I just think like the resilience that you get and the perspective that you have and like the inner strength, that is like where the mom wants come from.
00:50:31.519 -->
00:50:32.400I agree with that.
00:50:32.400 -->
00:50:38.880And I also think I have not um been on a specific training plan this year because my schedule is still kind of insane.
00:50:38.880 -->
00:50:45.760And but I have been so surprised with how how much my body has come back and and the strength that I do have.
00:50:45.760 -->
00:50:49.440Like I look down at the power and I'm like, whoa, so actually that's really not that bad.
00:50:49.440 -->
00:50:53.760Um, and it's one of those I need to remind myself that I think in triathlon is the same.
00:50:53.760 -->
00:50:55.519Like everyone is so damn fast.
00:50:55.519 -->
00:50:56.400Same with gravel.
00:50:56.400 -->
00:51:01.039Like in the last two years, everyone's gotten so fast that it's easy to get down on myself.
00:51:01.039 -->
00:51:06.880Um and then you look at the you know, performance versus your old self and you're like, damn, that was actually pretty good.
00:51:06.880 -->
00:51:15.679So yeah, I think it's one of those, it's a good thing to remind yourself where, yeah, I think mom watts might not necessarily be a thing, but I think mom resilience is probably a better way to say it.
00:51:15.679 -->
00:51:18.639Where you're just yeah, unrattable.
00:51:19.440 -->
00:51:32.079You know, I don't like having I still rattleable, but I don't I don't like have any regrets about how you know my journey has played out, but what I will say is that it is such an individual experience.
00:51:32.079 -->
00:51:40.559And you know, like on paper, it looks like I had this insane comeback when my kid was 18 months old, but there were so many highs and lows.
00:51:40.559 -->
00:51:46.000And that is only one path, right?
00:51:46.000 -->
00:51:49.199Like I think there's a world too where you play the long game, you know.
00:51:49.199 -->
00:51:57.280Like I did miss there are things that I miss that like I'm sad about, and yeah, times that I wasn't able to be as present as I would have liked to be in those.
00:51:57.280 -->
00:52:04.880Like, I don't remember a lot of the first year of her life, and um like that's really hard.
00:52:04.880 -->
00:52:08.400And I I think there are like there's a lot of ways to do this.
00:52:08.400 -->
00:52:12.800It doesn't brushing back is like not the answer.
00:52:13.039 -->
00:52:14.559Yeah, I agree with that.
00:52:14.559 -->
00:52:18.239Um I also don't know if I remember a lot of the first year of Ace's life.
00:52:18.239 -->
00:52:19.519It feels like a blur.
00:52:19.519 -->
00:52:24.159But I know, I know what you mean, and it's one of those, I guess.
00:52:24.159 -->
00:52:28.559Sorry, I said last question, but I have felt a lot.
00:52:28.559 -->
00:52:34.960I've talked about this a little bit, but like the fear that I fear feel when I leave for training now is really different.
00:52:34.960 -->
00:52:35.280Yeah.
00:52:35.280 -->
00:52:48.960I think I always I knew that my job is a dangerous job and that there is inherently a risk in riding your bike on open roads, and then gravel racing is definitely chaotic, and I have the scars to prove it that it's a dangerous sport.
00:52:48.960 -->
00:52:53.280Um but I'm curious with triathlon and training, like, do you feel that as well?
00:52:53.280 -->
00:52:59.920Um, I don't know, hopefully not as acutely, but maybe I'm curious if you felt that when she was younger or if you still feel that.
00:53:00.559 -->
00:53:09.760Yeah, you know, I I think I am like totally fearless when I race, but I'm not as fearless when I train.
00:53:09.760 -->
00:53:12.400And it's definitely gotten better.
00:53:12.400 -->
00:53:13.840It's gotten better is.
00:53:13.840 -->
00:53:19.199I think I think, you know, like how long has it been since you stopped breastfeeding?
00:53:19.199 -->
00:53:24.079Like, it takes like six months for your hormones to kind of level out even after breastfeeding.
00:53:24.159 -->
00:53:28.639And oh my god, the weenie hormone crash or whatever the hell that was.
00:53:28.639 -->
00:53:36.960After like three days of bursting into tears, I finally Googled it and I was like, oh like text my little mom group, and I they were like, Yeah, that's like a weird.
00:53:36.960 -->
00:53:41.519They were like, we're all kind of bumbling through it together, and we're like, they're like, that's a thing.
00:53:41.519 -->
00:53:44.079But I was like, am I going insane?
00:53:44.079 -->
00:53:47.360Like it felt like I was freshly postpartum again.
00:53:47.360 -->
00:53:49.199Everything I don't know.
00:53:49.199 -->
00:53:49.519Yeah.
00:53:49.519 -->
00:54:02.079So since then, that took another like week kind of of roller coastering, and then yeah, I haven't, but it took me, I don't know, it was probably three or four months that I burst into tears every time that I said bye to Hazel leaving for a ride.
00:54:02.079 -->
00:54:10.000Not because I thought she wasn't gonna be okay, but it's one of those where like I think the postpartum anxiety is real, where you go to the darkest possible place.
00:54:10.000 -->
00:54:18.639And for me, like that's a very I leave for my ride and I think about someone sending a text message, and I, you know, that's the end of everything.
00:54:18.639 -->
00:54:22.239So I I do think it has gotten better.
00:54:22.239 -->
00:54:30.639Um, but it's some of those I do wonder if it's something that I will think about kind of from here forward because you have someone else to live for.
00:54:30.960 -->
00:54:32.800Yeah, yeah, totally.
00:54:32.800 -->
00:54:37.199Um yeah, it t it's like the biggest life changer.
00:54:37.440 -->
00:54:37.760Yeah.
00:54:37.760 -->
00:54:43.599Thankfully, triathlon, I guess the only time that you're coming in contact with anyone else, hopefully, is during the swim.
00:54:43.760 -->
00:54:46.159And we don't, yeah.
00:54:46.159 -->
00:54:49.920We are luckily I do non-draft triathlon racing.
00:54:49.920 -->
00:54:51.920So crashes are usually like your own.
00:54:52.320 -->
00:54:53.280Yeah, your own fault.
00:54:53.280 -->
00:54:58.000It's got I like tend to ride on the dirt now more because I'm like, if I crash, it's my own damn fault.
00:54:58.000 -->
00:55:01.760Like, I want it to be my fault, and I want to be able to control these variables a little bit more.
00:55:01.760 -->
00:55:07.519Um and I feel like that luckily with the with the TT bike and non-drafting, you're like, stay away from me.
00:55:07.519 -->
00:55:13.599Age groupers, I swear to God, you stay out of my way.
00:55:13.599 -->
00:55:15.840Uh yeah.
00:55:15.840 -->
00:55:16.960Oh, that's good.
00:55:16.960 -->
00:55:23.760Um, I thank you so much for being here and taking the time in the week leading up to the biggest race of your year.
00:55:23.760 -->
00:55:27.039Um, and I'm really excited to cheer for you and and watch you.
00:55:27.039 -->
00:55:29.760And hopefully everyone listening, this will come out before Kona.
00:55:29.760 -->
00:55:31.039So tune in.
00:55:31.039 -->

00:55:37.199 -->

00:55:54.400Um do you are you a morning ride person or are you uh title person?
00:55:54.960 -->
00:55:58.880If I'm feeling myself, if I'm feeling myself, sometimes I'll put in a title.
00:55:58.880 -->
00:56:01.760Okay, okay, I yeah, yeah.
00:56:01.760 -->
00:56:06.559But I think I think I made it all private and like this lead in smart, smart.
00:56:06.559 -->
00:56:09.440Can't be you can't keep giving away your secrets.
00:56:09.440 -->
00:56:13.760I don't think there are very many secrets in endurance sport anymore, but nah.
00:56:13.760 -->
00:56:16.000It makes me feel like you know I'm in control.
00:56:16.000 -->
00:56:16.960For sure.
00:56:17.199 -->
00:56:19.679We can't we can't be telling people how fast you're gonna go.

00:56:21.840Thanks.
00:56:21.840 -->
00:56:23.039Thank you so much.
