ACERCA DE ESTE EPISODIO
In this episode of Pivot Point: Strategy for Change, Nik Michael sits down with Dr. Ilona Koti, AI researcher, entrepreneur, and founder of Hyperreal and Azarial AI, for a thought-provoking conversation about identity, innovation, and the courage to trust the way you think.
Dr. Koti's story isn't about a single defining moment. It's about a series of pivots that gradually revealed who she was always meant to become. After building a distinguished career in AI governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and AI ethics, she reached a point where she could no longer ignore the very abilities she had spent years trying to make more acceptable to others. Her extraordinary capacity for pattern recognition, shaped by her neurodivergence, became the foundation not only of her work but of her identity as a founder.
Together, Nik and Dr. Koti explore the profound transition from trusted advisor to entrepreneur, from interpreting the future for others to creating it herself. Along the way, they discuss how her relationship with artificial intelligence evolved beyond simply using technology into something far more collaborative—a creative partnership that challenged her to rethink what it means to build, innovate, and lead.
The conversation also examines the personal cost of spending years translating yourself to fit into systems that were never designed for the way your mind works. Dr. Koti speaks openly about navigating expectations, softening her expertise to make others comfortable, and the freedom that comes from finally deciding to stop shrinking and start building authentically.
Nik and Dr. Koti also tackle some of today's most important questions surrounding AI, the future of work, and the next generation. Rather than viewing artificial intelligence as a replacement for human intelligence, Dr. Koti makes a compelling case for human-AI collaboration. She shares why ethics, craftsmanship, curiosity, and real-world skills will become even more valuable as AI continues to reshape every industry.
At its core, this episode is about permission—the permission to stop apologizing for how you think, to embrace the strengths you've spent years trying to hide, and to trust your own vision long before the rest of the world can see it. It is a powerful conversation about resilience, identity, leadership, and the kind of pivot that changes not only your career, but the way you see yourself.
If you've ever felt different, underestimated, or caught between who the world expects you to be and who you know you could become, this conversation will challenge, inspire, and stay with you long after it ends.
