In today’s episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, Gary takes an in-depth look at Arrow Video’s brand-new 4K Ultra HD release of Go, director Doug Liman’s fast, funny and wildly energetic 1999 cult favorite.
Coming just a few years after Swingers and before Liman would move on to films like The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, Go captures the frantic energy of the late 1990s through three interconnected stories unfolding over one increasingly chaotic night.
The ensemble cast includes Sarah Polley, Katie Holmes, Jay Mohr, Scott Wolf, Timothy Olyphant, Taye Diggs, Breckin Meyer, Desmond Askew and Jane Krakowski, as a seemingly simple drug deal spirals into an unpredictable collision of Las Vegas, cops, criminals, parties, bad decisions and some very questionable life choices.
Gary revisits Go more than 25 years after its original release to see how this quintessentially late-1990s cult movie holds up today. Does its nonlinear storytelling still work? Has its hyperactive style aged well? How does the ensemble cast hold up? And does Go deserve to be rediscovered by viewers who may have missed it the first time around?
Then Gary digs into Arrow Video’s new Limited Edition 4K UHD release, examining the 4K restoration and picture quality, HDR presentation, audio, special features and bonus material, packaging, booklet and overall collector experience.
For longtime fans who have been waiting for Go to receive a premium physical media release, has Arrow Video delivered the definitive edition? And for anyone discovering this wonderfully strange snapshot of late-1990s cinema for the first time, is Go worth the trip?
Most importantly, is Arrow Video’s new Go 4K worth adding to your physical media collection?
