00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.439
Have you ever been in the middle of an assignment, one that you know God gave you, and you quietly wondered if you really actually heard him right?
00:00:09.679 --> 00:00:19.760
Not because the vision disappeared, not because you stopped believing, but because the process got harder and longer than what you planned.
00:00:19.920 --> 00:00:29.760
The results came slower than you expected, and somewhere in the gap between where you are and where God said you're going, doubt showed up uninvited.
00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:32.719
Remember that place of nowhere's between two somewheres?
00:00:33.039 --> 00:00:34.719
That's what we're talking about today.
00:00:34.880 --> 00:00:42.079
And if that's you right now, or it's been you at any point of your journey, I need you to hear this before we go any further.
00:00:42.320 --> 00:00:50.320
Doubt does not disqualify you from the calling, but staying in a doubtful mindset will keep you from walking it out.
00:00:55.200 --> 00:01:04.000
Welcome to Build for Confidence, the podcast where kingdom builders rebuild identity, sharpen clarity, and lead with conviction.
00:01:05.040 --> 00:01:15.840
I am your host, Coach Paul Ibarra, and every week we're cutting through the noise to help you stop second guessing, start deciding, and build with confidence right where God has placed you.
00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:23.599
So listen, drop a review, drop a comment, hit that like, subscribe, all the things, and let's get started.
00:01:51.120 --> 00:01:53.200
So last week we talked about thoughts.
00:01:53.439 --> 00:01:56.719
Let me know in the comments how that has blessed you.
00:01:56.879 --> 00:02:01.200
Because remember, these mental weights are not good for your next season.
00:02:01.359 --> 00:02:08.400
And if you missed that one, go on back, listen to it, because it sets the foundation for everything that we're covering this month.
00:02:08.560 --> 00:02:13.199
So this week, we're going somewhere that most leaders don't talk about openly.
00:02:13.360 --> 00:02:15.120
We're going to talk about doubt.
00:02:15.280 --> 00:02:21.840
Not the kind that means that you've lost your faith, but the kind that shows up right in the middle of the assignment.
00:02:22.000 --> 00:02:26.400
And what you do with it determines everything about what comes next.
00:02:26.639 --> 00:02:33.759
Let's break down point number one: the distinction that changes everything: doubt versus unbelief.
00:02:34.000 --> 00:02:37.840
You see, Jesus responded differently to doubt than to unbelief.
00:02:38.000 --> 00:02:39.039
And this is critical.
00:02:39.199 --> 00:02:43.599
And here's what doubt is it's transitory, it's a wavering moment.
00:02:44.000 --> 00:02:47.599
You see, Jesus corrects it, but he doesn't rebuke.
00:02:47.759 --> 00:02:52.319
You remember the story about Peter in the water, Matthew 14, 28 through 31?
00:02:52.479 --> 00:03:03.919
Jesus didn't condemn Peter, but he helped Peter realize that even through what he looked at, the storm, the waves, all the things, Peter was not functioning in unbelief.
00:03:04.159 --> 00:03:08.560
Because if Peter did not believe, he never would have stepped out of the boat.
00:03:08.800 --> 00:03:13.599
Unbelief is a fixed decision, a hardness of heart.
00:03:13.759 --> 00:03:22.000
Because when we look at the story of the man and the and the son that was demon-possessed, the man said, I believe, but help me in my unbelief.
00:03:22.240 --> 00:03:27.039
Jesus continued to heal the boy, but he first addressed the man.
00:03:27.280 --> 00:03:29.439
You see, belief is going to change everything.
00:03:29.599 --> 00:03:31.759
It changes everything in your life.
00:03:31.919 --> 00:03:40.800
And if you're constantly operating in unbelief, your doubt, which is perfectly normal, becomes the spirit you operate from.
00:03:41.120 --> 00:03:43.520
Let's unpack the full picture of Peter.
00:03:43.759 --> 00:03:48.800
Number one, Jesus instructed his disciples to head on over to the other side.
00:03:48.960 --> 00:03:50.560
He says, I'll meet you there.
00:03:50.800 --> 00:03:53.759
Number two, Peter and the disciples got scared.
00:03:53.919 --> 00:03:56.400
They thought Jesus was a ghost walking on water.
00:03:56.560 --> 00:04:01.520
And number three, Jesus knew their doubt, and he said, It is I.
00:04:01.840 --> 00:04:03.039
Do not be afraid.
00:04:03.120 --> 00:04:04.639
I know you're doubting me.
00:04:04.960 --> 00:04:06.080
But it's okay.
00:04:06.319 --> 00:04:13.759
And the moment Peter heard that, there was enough faith in his doubt for him to say, If it's you, petition me to come.
00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:20.480
Jesus cleared up the doubt in that moment, and Peter stepped out, but then doubt hit him again, and he started to sink.
00:04:20.639 --> 00:04:22.000
What is this telling us?
00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:28.000
Doubt is going to constantly come, but God does not rebuke the doubt.
00:04:28.319 --> 00:04:32.480
He helps us through it so we can continue to believe.
00:04:32.800 --> 00:04:38.079
Matthew 14, 31, Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him.
00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:40.399
And here's the thing we often miss.
00:04:40.639 --> 00:04:44.720
Peter was number 12 because he left 11 behind.
00:04:44.959 --> 00:04:46.720
He was the one who stepped out.
00:04:46.800 --> 00:04:49.439
And here's what I heard from a good friend of mine, Miss Jody.
00:04:49.839 --> 00:04:56.240
Sometimes we want God to come into our present circumstance when God is really calling us into his.
00:04:56.879 --> 00:04:59.120
Jesus was coming to meet his disciples.
00:04:59.279 --> 00:05:00.800
He was already on the way.
00:05:01.040 --> 00:05:03.199
But Peter was the one who challenged him.
00:05:03.600 --> 00:05:06.480
If it's you, petition me to come.
00:05:06.720 --> 00:05:15.680
So wherever you are in business, ministry, leadership, God is petitioning you in the areas where you are asking him to show up.
00:05:15.839 --> 00:05:20.240
And things will change when you step out of your own boat.
00:05:20.560 --> 00:05:25.680
Because the sinking was fear-interrupting focus, not a rejection of Christ.
00:05:26.160 --> 00:05:30.959
Peter believed, but the sinking was a human emotion reaction.
00:05:31.360 --> 00:05:33.120
And I want you to understand something.
00:05:33.680 --> 00:05:34.399
It's okay.
00:05:35.120 --> 00:05:36.079
It's an emotion.
00:05:36.720 --> 00:05:43.040
The moment you start operating in fear as a posture, now it becomes the spirit of fear.
00:05:43.439 --> 00:05:46.240
So wherever you are, I want you to doubt the doubt.
00:05:46.720 --> 00:05:50.399
Focus clearly on what God has called you to do.
00:05:50.720 --> 00:05:56.399
Because Jesus caught Peter, he corrected him, he kept moving with him.
00:05:56.879 --> 00:06:00.480
If Peter had stayed in the boat, that to me is unbelief.
00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:02.000
What if he never stepped out?
00:06:02.160 --> 00:06:06.079
But see, he had the faith to ask, and Jesus said, Come.
00:06:06.480 --> 00:06:11.680
So now let's move on over to the story of Mary and Martha at the tomb of Lazarus.
00:06:11.839 --> 00:06:13.519
This is John 11, 21.
00:06:13.759 --> 00:06:17.600
Martha said, Lord, if you had been here, our brother would not have died.
00:06:17.759 --> 00:06:19.120
Was that unbelief?
00:06:19.439 --> 00:06:19.759
No.
00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:23.920
That was a disappointment meeting divine timing.
00:06:24.160 --> 00:06:25.680
That was a reality check.
00:06:25.839 --> 00:06:32.240
It's the fourth day, and in Jewish culture, they believe that after the third day, the soul has already been released.
00:06:32.399 --> 00:06:36.480
But see, Jesus showed up anyway, and he raised Lazarus.
00:06:36.720 --> 00:06:39.519
The doubt was resolved through the encounter.
00:06:39.759 --> 00:06:52.160
So the things in your life that seem dead right now, your business, your vision, your family, Jesus can show up in his own timing to resurrect those things.
00:06:52.480 --> 00:07:00.240
Especially when you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that God has told you what he is going to do.
00:07:00.560 --> 00:07:11.040
So here's a takeaway from point number one a moment of doubt inside the process is not the same as a decision to reject the assignment.
00:07:11.279 --> 00:07:12.639
Say that again with me.
00:07:13.279 --> 00:07:22.160
A moment of doubt inside the process is not the same as a decision to reject the assignment.
00:07:22.480 --> 00:07:31.920
Because when doubt becomes a cycle, James 1, 6 through 8 says, the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
00:07:32.240 --> 00:07:36.879
The person must not suppose he will receive anything from the Lord.
00:07:37.120 --> 00:07:40.560
He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
00:07:40.800 --> 00:07:46.319
Double-mindedness is not an intellectual uncertainty, it's a spiritual instability.
00:07:46.560 --> 00:07:48.319
So what does it look like for a leader?
00:07:48.560 --> 00:07:52.720
Bouncing from framework to framework, cohort to cohort, never settled.
00:07:52.879 --> 00:07:55.040
I know this specifically in my own life.
00:07:55.279 --> 00:08:00.800
There were years of running and building my business, creating different programs, doing all the things.
00:08:01.040 --> 00:08:06.959
But these last few years, and especially these last few months, I am the clearest that I've ever been.
00:08:07.120 --> 00:08:14.480
But I had to remove myself from the noise, remove myself from the things that added nothing to my life, even people.
00:08:14.959 --> 00:08:17.040
I would start out strong and then pull back.
00:08:17.199 --> 00:08:21.920
When it got uncomfortable, then people would call me the fire starter, right?
00:08:22.160 --> 00:08:26.959
Give me an idea, I would brand it, I'd post it, I'd launch it, but no follow-through.
00:08:27.279 --> 00:08:31.279
I was always questioning the calling because the processes got hard.
00:08:31.839 --> 00:08:33.519
Does this make sense to you?
00:08:33.759 --> 00:08:38.559
Are you in that space right now where you have so much going on that you feel cluttered?
00:08:39.039 --> 00:08:41.759
This is what I call the rehearsal trap.
00:08:42.080 --> 00:08:44.639
Replaying every reason it won't work.
00:08:44.799 --> 00:08:47.279
And how do I know things are different in this season?
00:08:47.519 --> 00:08:55.039
Because the people who have known me for four to five years are telling me, dude, there's a peace about your voice.
00:08:55.360 --> 00:08:57.360
You're not going back and forth.
00:08:57.600 --> 00:09:00.639
You're actually doing the work behind the scenes.
00:09:00.879 --> 00:09:03.360
But I had to get out of that rehearsal trap.
00:09:03.600 --> 00:09:09.600
I had to stop asking, what if, what if, ugh, and I had to start doubting the doubt.
00:09:09.759 --> 00:09:18.559
You see, when you continue to replay every reason that it won't work, you condition your mind to expect defeat before faith has room to move.
00:09:18.799 --> 00:09:22.320
Old disappointments become the filter for present decisions.
00:09:22.480 --> 00:09:24.320
And that's not where God wants you.
00:09:24.559 --> 00:09:32.080
Doubt as a posture, not a moment, is what produces instability in your leadership, your relationships, and your vision.
00:09:32.320 --> 00:09:34.639
So don't allow it to become a posture.
00:09:34.799 --> 00:09:35.279
All right?
00:09:35.519 --> 00:09:37.360
Heading on over to point number three.
00:09:37.519 --> 00:09:40.320
Clarity comes through obedience, not before it.
00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:44.480
So many times I prayed, God, just give me clarity on what's next.
00:09:44.639 --> 00:09:45.759
And I heard nothing.
00:09:45.919 --> 00:09:48.080
But here's what I learned through the process.
00:09:48.320 --> 00:09:51.279
Abraham left without a complete itinerary.
00:09:51.600 --> 00:09:54.000
He had a direction and a promise.
00:09:54.240 --> 00:09:55.279
That's it.
00:09:55.679 --> 00:10:04.080
Hebrews 11:8 talks about by faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place he was to receive as an inheritance.
00:10:04.320 --> 00:10:12.639
He went out, not knowing where he was going, because clarity develops through you as you continue moving toward God.
00:10:13.120 --> 00:10:15.519
It's not about eliminating every question first.
00:10:15.840 --> 00:10:17.279
It's okay to ask questions.
00:10:17.440 --> 00:10:20.559
It's okay to say, Lord, this doesn't make sense.
00:10:20.879 --> 00:10:23.120
God's invitation is relational.
00:10:23.519 --> 00:10:27.519
He wants you to bring your questions to him and keep it moving.
00:10:27.759 --> 00:10:31.360
This is a place that wrestling is honest.
00:10:31.759 --> 00:10:33.279
Jacob wrestled with God.
00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:35.279
Jacob did the things, right?
00:10:35.519 --> 00:10:38.639
David wrestled, Abraham wrestled, they all did.
00:10:38.879 --> 00:10:44.000
But here's the danger staying in the wrestling without continuing in obedience.
00:10:44.240 --> 00:10:45.919
You see, it's okay to be unsure.
00:10:46.240 --> 00:10:49.200
It's okay to say, I don't know how this is going to work.
00:10:49.440 --> 00:10:52.320
And here's what I'm going to impart in you today.
00:10:52.559 --> 00:10:54.080
Don't worry about the how.
00:10:57.200 --> 00:10:58.799
Now notice how I said that.
00:10:59.039 --> 00:11:00.879
Don't worry about the how.
00:11:01.120 --> 00:11:01.840
Worry.
00:11:02.399 --> 00:11:04.159
Focus on the why.
00:11:04.399 --> 00:11:10.320
Because worry will take you down a rabbit hole you're not prepared for, especially when you're called by God.
00:11:10.480 --> 00:11:11.519
So here it is.
00:11:11.759 --> 00:11:16.080
What is the next obedient step you already know you need to take?
00:11:16.240 --> 00:11:21.200
Because that step is almost always visible, but the full roadmap usually isn't.
00:11:21.440 --> 00:11:25.519
You see, mature faith is not built by eliminating every question, like I said.
00:11:25.679 --> 00:11:31.279
It's built by continuing to trust God while the questions still exist.
00:11:32.080 --> 00:11:34.080
So here's where I want to leave you today.
00:11:34.320 --> 00:11:43.360
The doubt that you've been sitting with about your calling, your direction, your assignment, that's not necessarily a sign that you heard God wrong.
00:11:43.759 --> 00:11:47.200
It may be a sign that you are in the process.
00:11:47.679 --> 00:11:52.799
And the process has always required trust before clarity.
00:11:53.679 --> 00:11:55.600
Again, Peter got out of the boat.
00:11:56.080 --> 00:11:57.279
He started to sink.
00:11:57.600 --> 00:11:58.639
Jesus caught him.
00:11:58.960 --> 00:12:02.080
And then they walked together back to the boat.
00:12:02.480 --> 00:12:05.679
The doubt was a moment, not the end of the story.
00:12:06.320 --> 00:12:08.720
So your next step is already visible.
00:12:09.279 --> 00:12:09.759
Take it.
00:12:10.240 --> 00:12:14.240
Bring your questions to God and keep it moving.
00:12:14.720 --> 00:12:16.799
That's how doubt gets resolved.
00:12:16.960 --> 00:12:22.320
Not by sitting in it, but by walking through it in obedience.
00:12:22.639 --> 00:12:32.159
So next week we're going to be talking about FOMO, the fear of missing out, and how comparison quietly pulls kingdom builders off their assignment.
00:12:32.399 --> 00:12:34.799
This is a conversation you don't want to miss.
00:12:34.960 --> 00:12:44.240
So your call to action today is this share this episode with somebody who is sitting on a decision that they've been afraid to make.
00:12:44.480 --> 00:12:45.679
You know that person.
00:12:45.919 --> 00:12:47.200
That may even be you.
00:12:47.360 --> 00:12:54.240
So if that's you, tag yourself or tag that person that needs to hear that doubt does not disqualify you.
00:12:54.399 --> 00:12:56.240
I'll catch you on the next episode.
00:12:56.399 --> 00:12:59.919
Everything, all my resources are down in the show notes.
00:13:00.639 --> 00:13:02.000
Keep building, my friend.
00:13:02.240 --> 00:13:03.519
We'll talk soon.
00:13:09.279 --> 00:13:13.519
I want to thank you once again for tuning in to the Build for Confidence podcast.
00:13:13.679 --> 00:13:23.200
If you have found value in any of these episodes, do me a huge favor, drop me a review, and also let me know which episode has touched your life.
00:13:23.440 --> 00:13:29.600
My passion is to help business owners grow, scale, and expand for the kingdom of God.
00:13:29.840 --> 00:13:37.679
So let's get out there, let's build our businesses, share this out, hit that like, all the things, and we'll catch you on our next episode.
00:13:37.840 --> 00:13:38.559
God bless.
