1. How will you deliver the podcast database? 🔗
You'll be able to visit a dashboard page like this:
You can manually click the download link to get the up-to-date SQLite database file. Or you can follow the instructions on the page to set up a cron job that automatically downloads the latest database.
You can also give coworkers access to the dashboard, so everyone on your team can sign in with separate credentials.
2. What's included in the subscription plan? 🔗
You'll periodically receive a SQLite database file—for example, daily, weekly, or quarterly. Each file is a snapshot of all RSS-based podcasts when the file is created.
The SQLite database file contains three tables:
- genres: all categories.
- podcasts: all 3,799,379 podcasts as of today, with 35+ data fields.
- podcast_genres: the podcast-category relationship. A podcast may belong to multiple categories.
You can use a SQLite client to open the database file. For example, we recommend DB Browser on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Here is a video demo of opening our podcast database with DB Browser.
Alternatively, your developers can easily write code to transform the SQLite database into other data formats—it is a SQL database, after all.
3. Does the database have all episodes and transcripts? 🔗
Upon request, we can add an episode dump covering up to 192,212,302 episodes with
basic data attributes.
Transcripts are not included because we only have transcript coverage for about 1% of the 192,212,302 episodes. If you need transcripts, they are relatively easy to generate with speech-to-text APIs. The data dump includes an "audio_url" for each episode, allowing you to access the audio files directly.
4. How do you make sure your podcast database is up to date? 🔗
We use four approaches to find new podcasts.
- First, we run crawlers around the clock to find publicly accessible podcasts on the Internet, similar to how Google and other search engines find new websites.
- Second, podcasters submit new shows to Listen Notes themselves. We receive hundreds of new submissions every day.
- Third, Listen Notes employees manually add any missing podcasts they find. We also run the popular podcast search engine listennotes.com. More than 2,000,000 people use our website each month, and any of them can submit missing shows to Listen Notes. This helps keep our database comprehensive and current. We manually review every submission and reject fake podcasts, such as machine-generated audio.
- Fourth, we partner with major podcast hosting services that integrate with our podcast API so podcasters can submit new shows directly to Listen Notes.
5. Can I purchase a one-time dump of your podcast database without a subscription? 🔗
Yes. We offer a one-time dump of our podcast database. Please fill out the contact form to get a quote.
You can choose to update your data later by purchasing a subscription. If you decide within one year of buying the one-time dump, you can switch to a subscription by paying the price difference.
6. How quickly can I access the podcast database? 🔗
After the sales agreement is complete and we receive your payment, we provide download access within 12 hours and often within minutes.
