Virtual Classrooms, Real Results

Podcast Show Notes

Hi everyone, thanks for tuning in to We Do This Every Day! I’m Pat Mulroy, of the World of Learning Institute. In this episode, I had the chance to sit down and talk with Lauren McMinn about some of the very real challenges and opportunities we face in online learning. At the World of Learning Lauren and the team are reimagining what it means to provide the human component to - authentic, relevant and engaging for all students.

As always, these conversations remind me that our work isn’t just about filling a teaching gap. It’s about building connections, supporting schools, and creating opportunities for learners who might otherwise be left without a path forward.

I hope you’ll listen in with us, reflect a little, and maybe walk away with some new ways to think about how we support students who choose an online journey, how we parter with schools, and how our professional learning helps us support each other.

5 Takeaways from This Episode

* We’re more than a stop-gap. Virtual learning, when done with real teachers and relationships at the center, extends a district’s capacity in powerful ways.

* Relationships drive engagement. The strongest online classrooms feel human, because the teacher takes time to know the students, and students know their teacher sees them.

* Flexibility matters. Schools and families thrive when learning solutions adapt to unique schedules, needs, and goals.

* Equity is the heart of it. Virtual instruction ensures that a student in a rural district has the same opportunities as one in a large suburban school.

* We’re in this together. Whether you’re a district leader, a parent, or a fellow educator, the work is about collaboration—so students get what they need, when they need it.

If you need a teacher!

Here’s the piece I don’t want you to miss:

* 16,581 touchpoints per quarter — that’s the average number of times our team reaches out to students, families, or districts (through calls, Zoom, emails, or check-ins). That’s a huge relational metric that shows how “human” your virtual program is.

* Weekly teacher contact — every Full- Time student has 24 opportunities to meet with a live teachers. And everyone gets a Monday Morning Message, PLUS outreach (calls to guardians, mid-quarter updates, daily homeroom check-ins, help desk calls).

If your district needs a teacher or if you want to expand opportunities for your students reach out. We’d love to talk about how we can make sure every learner in your community feels seen, supported, and successful.
