00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:01.520
Welcome back to the rebuild.
00:00:01.600 --> 00:00:03.359
I hope you're having an amazing day today.
00:00:03.520 --> 00:00:04.639
Thank you for being here.
00:00:04.799 --> 00:00:07.759
Today I want to walk you through something I'm very passionate about.
00:00:07.839 --> 00:00:12.080
So if I get a little loud, I get a little bit, you know, manic.
00:00:12.240 --> 00:00:14.400
It's because I'm really passionate about this.
00:00:14.480 --> 00:00:17.039
I've essentially studied it my whole life.
00:00:17.280 --> 00:00:19.280
And I want to talk about busyness.
00:00:19.440 --> 00:00:22.960
And so I kind of titled this busy versus unstructured.
00:00:23.120 --> 00:00:23.440
Okay.
00:00:23.920 --> 00:00:47.439
And there's a massive core problem around this because for years, whether it's working with clients one-to-one, whether it's being on the gym floor, doing group training, having a gym, owning supplement stores, talking to people about their health and fitness, doing keynotes and businesses with high-level executives, the one-to-one coaching, the podcasts, the interviews.
00:00:47.759 --> 00:00:55.520
I hear this term, I'm just so busy so often, and I'm going to be really real with everyone right now.
00:00:55.759 --> 00:01:02.000
I've studied time management and systems since I was a boy, like a very young boy.
00:01:02.320 --> 00:01:07.439
And if I was like everyone else in culture today, I would definitely label myself with autism.
00:01:07.599 --> 00:01:12.319
So imagine like this autistic creature obsessing about something.
00:01:12.400 --> 00:01:17.359
And if you ever listen to my stuff, when I obsess about something, I know quite a lot about it.
00:01:17.599 --> 00:01:17.920
Okay.
00:01:18.480 --> 00:01:25.840
And I'm I'm almost making like a caveat around this because this one is probably going to trigger some folks.
00:01:25.920 --> 00:01:27.280
And I don't mean to.
00:01:27.439 --> 00:01:33.040
I'm coming at this with love and grace, but I want the truth pill to be swallowed.
00:01:33.200 --> 00:01:38.640
Number one, you are not too busy to look after your health.
00:01:38.719 --> 00:01:44.879
You just don't know what you're doing, and you have very low capacity and you do not know how to structure things.
00:01:45.280 --> 00:01:52.239
I've gotten to talk to a few in my life, and because we have the gracious thing of the internet, you can find all these things.
00:01:52.319 --> 00:02:00.959
I'm very interested in founders and the best athletes, and anyone who's achieved just monumental success in one area of their life.
00:02:01.359 --> 00:02:06.959
Most billionaires are scheduling their time to a seven-minute interval per day.
00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:10.879
Every seven minutes, there's a new micro meeting, there's a new task.
00:02:10.960 --> 00:02:12.319
And you know what all of them say?
00:02:12.560 --> 00:02:16.800
The number one thing that they try to focus on is their health because it's the one thing money can't buy.
00:02:16.879 --> 00:02:19.360
It's the one thing you can't get back when you lose.
00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:22.960
And when you have a bunch of problems, guess what?
00:02:23.120 --> 00:02:25.280
When you lose your health, you only have one.
00:02:25.520 --> 00:02:26.400
One problem.
00:02:27.120 --> 00:02:31.759
And so just a lot of the cope things that I might hear is like, I'm too busy to meal prep.
00:02:31.840 --> 00:02:32.879
Well, you're eating anyway.
00:02:32.960 --> 00:02:33.759
What do you mean?
00:02:34.000 --> 00:02:36.479
And if you weren't eating, you wouldn't have too much body fat.
00:02:36.639 --> 00:02:37.840
So that's nonsense.
00:02:37.919 --> 00:02:39.520
You're not too busy to meal prep.
00:02:39.680 --> 00:02:40.719
Maybe you don't know how.
00:02:40.879 --> 00:02:42.159
Maybe you're not a good cook.
00:02:42.319 --> 00:02:45.039
Maybe you're not prioritizing it or valuing it.
00:02:45.199 --> 00:02:48.080
Those are all things that can be true as to why they're not getting done.
00:02:48.240 --> 00:02:51.919
But just having such low-level excuses of like, I'm just busy.
00:02:52.080 --> 00:02:52.879
No, you're not.
00:02:53.039 --> 00:03:05.360
And I'm gonna be honest, most people I coach and or have coached in the past or have consulted with, their level of busyness could be like improved.
00:03:05.599 --> 00:03:14.000
I could add, if I taught them how to manage things, which is exactly what I try to do inside my coaching container, probably 20, 40 times the load.
00:03:14.159 --> 00:03:20.879
Like people's capac human beings are the most incredibly adaptive, like creatures.
00:03:20.960 --> 00:03:22.719
And human beings fascinate me.
00:03:22.800 --> 00:03:24.879
That's part of why I loved coaching, right?
00:03:25.039 --> 00:03:28.240
And so I'll ask someone like, oh, are we time blocking?
00:03:28.400 --> 00:03:29.280
What does that mean?
00:03:29.520 --> 00:03:31.680
Hmm, do you have any calendar blocks?
00:03:31.919 --> 00:03:34.080
Are we having weekly planning?
00:03:34.319 --> 00:03:38.000
Are we allowing small interruptions through our phone all day long?
00:03:38.159 --> 00:03:41.280
Just dopamine cycling, task switching.
00:03:41.520 --> 00:03:45.280
How many hours are we spending on our phone as far as you know, screen time?
00:03:45.360 --> 00:03:47.439
What's the Netflix log time?
00:03:48.319 --> 00:04:02.000
Listen, if things don't get scheduled and structured, and even me, even as much as I go hard for my clients, I try to run my business, I try to really take uh a very hearty look at responsibility.
00:04:02.319 --> 00:04:12.719
When I'm gonna schedule my training, when I'm scheduling these very uh podcasts right now, because my clients get a lot of value from this, and it's very important to me to add value to them.
00:04:12.879 --> 00:04:15.599
I wrote it on the calendar this morning that I was gonna come and do this.
00:04:15.680 --> 00:04:20.160
There was already four things that came up where I could have said, just ah, I'm too busy.
00:04:20.399 --> 00:04:21.120
But guess what?
00:04:21.279 --> 00:04:24.480
That's in there now, and everything else gets layered on top of that.
00:04:24.639 --> 00:04:35.839
And sometimes, of course, we're adults, we have to flip things, things will take of higher priority, which is why I'm too busy is usually a translation for I'm not valuing this enough.
00:04:36.079 --> 00:04:36.720
Excuse me.
00:04:36.879 --> 00:04:41.279
And so when you don't value something, you're not gonna prioritize it.
00:04:41.439 --> 00:04:45.759
And then I know there's always this knee-jerk reaction of like, no, no, I'm prioritizing it.
00:04:45.920 --> 00:04:47.759
And I'm like, well, okay, well, how are you doing that?
00:04:47.920 --> 00:04:52.319
It's like, well, I've hired you as a coach, or I've hired another coach, or I've I've done this thing.
00:04:52.399 --> 00:04:58.480
And I'm like, okay, that's that's suppositioning the act of spending money into thinking that that's doing the thing.
00:04:58.720 --> 00:04:58.959
Right.
00:04:59.040 --> 00:05:07.279
I've worked with tons of people who have paid me uh and over the years, and I'm very lucky that I see a lot less of this than what's in the marketplace.
00:05:07.519 --> 00:05:12.639
Just someone comes and pays for three months, six months, a year, and changes absolutely nothing.
00:05:13.040 --> 00:05:20.879
It's it's a lot of people like hiring a coach or starting a program or doing 75 hard because they like going to the lunchroom at work and saying, Oh, I'm doing 75 hard.
00:05:20.959 --> 00:05:21.519
Oh, yeah.
00:05:21.680 --> 00:05:24.560
It's like, okay, well, what about after 75?
00:05:24.720 --> 00:05:31.120
What about what what was happening before that we need a uh a 75 hard days or whatever it is, right?
00:05:31.279 --> 00:05:33.600
So you can see where I'm going with this.
00:05:33.759 --> 00:05:41.439
And again, I don't want to be combative on this because I also, and now I want to kind of make a bipolar point.
00:05:41.680 --> 00:05:45.040
I also don't believe that everyone has the same 24 hours in a day.
00:05:45.199 --> 00:05:50.959
And I also don't believe that a single mom with three kids has the same life as a 20-year-old who's going to university.
00:05:51.199 --> 00:05:51.920
No shot.
00:05:52.079 --> 00:05:56.160
And those 20-year-olds will also also all always say that they're way too busy.
00:05:56.240 --> 00:06:01.120
And I just tell them, listen, you just have no frame or reference of reality because you're not in it yet.
00:06:01.199 --> 00:06:02.879
This is actually the easiest time in your life.
00:06:02.959 --> 00:06:13.600
It feels like it's not, but adding kids, adding a career, adding a divorce, adding uh opening businesses, adding losing your parents, like go down the list as we age.
00:06:13.759 --> 00:06:21.279
And anyone who's you know 35, 40, 50 plus is just shaking their head right now, going, like, yeah, honestly, I thought it was hard then too, as did I.
00:06:21.439 --> 00:06:22.000
It's not.
00:06:22.160 --> 00:06:30.240
You get more competent, you get more seasoned, you you get more calm with dealing with problems usually, but life doesn't get quote unquote easier.
00:06:30.480 --> 00:06:32.079
And it usually comes in seasons.
00:06:32.160 --> 00:06:37.519
You guys have heard me talk about seasons a lot, but that doesn't mean that we throw the baby out with the bathwater.
00:06:37.680 --> 00:06:40.720
This is where people need to learn to reduce the scope, right?
00:06:40.879 --> 00:06:47.519
So I've gone through a crazy couple years and I'm just coming out the other side of it, specifically 2025.
00:06:47.839 --> 00:06:55.839
2025, I was doing my best to get in three really good sessions a week uh in the gym.
00:06:56.000 --> 00:06:57.439
Let's use an as an example.
00:06:57.600 --> 00:07:01.439
Well, to me, and to many people, that's all that they ever need, probably.
00:07:01.680 --> 00:07:06.800
But to me, because I've been used to training four or five days a week for 15 years, that felt like failing.
00:07:06.959 --> 00:07:17.920
And it would have been really easy for me to go, well, I'm just stressed out, I'm depressed, I'm exiting these businesses, I have this ex-wife problem, yada yada yada.
00:07:18.160 --> 00:07:21.360
I could have told myself that story and just kind of stopped going.
00:07:21.519 --> 00:07:23.759
But I went, no, what can we reduce the scope to?
00:07:23.920 --> 00:07:25.279
What can I actually do?
00:07:25.519 --> 00:07:26.560
What could I do?
00:07:26.720 --> 00:07:27.519
What should I do?
00:07:27.600 --> 00:07:29.600
And then most importantly, what would I do?
00:07:29.839 --> 00:07:31.920
It's like, okay, well, I think I could do that.
00:07:32.160 --> 00:07:34.399
And I reduced the scope for a while.
00:07:34.560 --> 00:07:35.279
And guess what?
00:07:35.360 --> 00:07:46.240
Now the seasons are changing, and it's like I'm back in the gym feeling much better, especially these last couple months, and I've worked my way up to four days a week, and this is my first week again hitting five days.
00:07:46.480 --> 00:07:53.040
Well, if you look at an entire year, imagine what happened or would have happened or wouldn't have happened, I guess, over the year.
00:07:53.120 --> 00:07:57.439
If I just went, well, I'm busy right now, and uh I guess I don't have time to train.
00:07:57.759 --> 00:08:05.839
What do you think the difference would be from training most of the year three days a week to zero after that year is aggregated?
00:08:06.160 --> 00:08:10.879
Huge difference in progress, performance, how I feel about myself.
00:08:11.120 --> 00:08:14.800
And this is where you teach yourself that you are responsible.
00:08:14.959 --> 00:08:21.519
This is where you teach yourself that you are reliable, and you teach yourself that you can do hard things and that you can trust yourself.
00:08:22.079 --> 00:08:30.079
And most people oftentimes don't trust themselves, which is why they just bail so easy on their goals when things get hard.
00:08:30.480 --> 00:08:48.559
And so I just want to make sure that you feel heard and seen because I get it, you're busy, things are difficult, but I want you to tell yourself instead of just saying I'm too busy, the end, I want you to tell yourself I have lower capacity than what's required to succeed in this busy season, but that can be built.
00:08:48.960 --> 00:08:53.039
I possess the skills to do so, and there's help for me to learn how.
00:08:53.679 --> 00:08:54.639
That's the truth.
00:08:55.360 --> 00:08:59.840
And so it's not so much that I'm too busy is completely false.
00:09:00.080 --> 00:09:04.000
It's just such a bad story, it's lacking so much context.
00:09:04.240 --> 00:09:11.440
And so if you're if you're in a spot, you know, one of my clients where you find yourself telling yourself this all the time, I want you to remember something you've heard me say a lot.
00:09:11.759 --> 00:09:16.240
The words you describe an experience with become the experience.
00:09:17.120 --> 00:09:26.159
The words you use to describe an experience will become that experience first internally, and then you'll create that manifested outwardly 100%, 10 out of 10 times, every time.
00:09:26.480 --> 00:09:34.799
And so when you change the language you use with yourself, and I'm this crazy coach that I tell people, like, no, you have to say stuff out loud to yourself.
00:09:34.960 --> 00:09:44.879
If you have a nonsense thought, like, oh, I'm just too busy, or this has never worked for me, or I don't have time, or you know, any kind of like what I would call low-level cope excuse.
00:09:45.279 --> 00:09:56.000
As soon as you either identify yourself, whether that's you know through development or you're working with a coach or a mentor or a parent or anyone tells you something that makes sense, you hear it and you're like, Yeah, I know.
00:09:56.240 --> 00:09:58.159
You have to tell yourself out loud like a little kid.
00:09:58.240 --> 00:09:58.960
It's super embarrassing.
00:09:59.039 --> 00:09:59.679
I do this all the time.
00:09:59.759 --> 00:10:05.600
I sit on the edge of my bed and I'm like, Dylan, no, this is not this, it's this.
00:10:06.159 --> 00:10:07.200
Do you accept that?
00:10:07.360 --> 00:10:09.279
And I literally talk to myself out loud.
00:10:09.440 --> 00:10:11.840
And then I have to go, yes, Dylan, I accept it.
00:10:11.919 --> 00:10:13.279
And then I repeat it to myself.
00:10:13.360 --> 00:10:14.000
And guess what?
00:10:14.080 --> 00:10:17.840
The next time you have that stupid thought, there'll be this circuit.
00:10:17.919 --> 00:10:19.600
You've implanted a circuit.
00:10:19.759 --> 00:10:22.000
I call these inhibitory circuits.
00:10:22.159 --> 00:10:26.960
And that inhibitory circuit will pop up and remind you that you're just talking nonsense.
00:10:27.120 --> 00:10:32.000
And maybe you're just tired, maybe you're having a bad day, but it's not time to throw in the towel.
00:10:32.080 --> 00:10:32.399
Okay.
00:10:32.720 --> 00:10:37.039
And if you're not a client of mine and you want to work on this with some one on one help, just reach out.
00:10:37.120 --> 00:10:38.000
I'd love to help.
00:10:38.240 --> 00:10:39.200
Super good to see you.
00:10:39.279 --> 00:10:41.679
And remember, you're not too busy.
