00:00:02
Speaker 1: At times, the Stage League.
00:00:17
Speaker 2: Crackers, friend sitting in here, we will see you Tomorrow's the Garner.
00:00:36
Speaker 3: Welcome One, Hangout mail Bag Friday. It's like kind of a casual Friday. But you do have us three here. Jack mcmull and Peter Apple rum late in the Just Baseball Show on Friday, February eleventh, and I just found something out about our friend and co host Peter Apple. Would you find out? I found out that you're willing to spend thirty dollars on airplane Wi Fi?
00:01:02
Speaker 4: I wrote an article why Aaron Judge deserves an extension. I spent thirty bucks on Wi Fi.
00:01:07
Speaker 5: You know what happens.
00:01:08
Speaker 4: I can't get through a flight if I don't have Wi Fi.
00:01:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, that's the worst take ever.
00:01:13
Speaker 5: No not. You stare at the at the chair in front of you. What do you do? Don't say read a book?
00:01:21
Speaker 3: Read a book. I also download shows and movies on Netflix. I use that time to cut off my communication with the outside world. I use it to almost communicate.
00:01:30
Speaker 5: More, Yes, correct, communicate way more.
00:01:33
Speaker 4: Also, Jack, when you're up units, you know you splurge.
00:01:37
Speaker 3: You're up units. You just splurge a little bit. Is that is that gambling? I thought we were just talking about baseball. I forgot.
00:01:44
Speaker 4: You know, we're a little bit of this, a little bit of that, little bit of units, you know, a little bit of splurgeon.
00:01:47
Speaker 3: Is what it is. Yeah, sorry, I forgot. You are the host of Not Gambling Advice Now. Episode one was a Super Bowl preview with Colby Olsen. That was good. Good facial expressions came from the YouTube video and Ram's minus four. I guess is the play right?
00:02:01
Speaker 4: Rams minus four? We got a ton of props. I'm not gonna give him out on this show, even though I did give out Kevin Huber over fifty two and a half yards longest punt. We can hear the reasoning for all the props, Gatorade, National Anthem Coin Toss, super Bowl MVP. But Rams, Rams are gonna take it. And I got my la hat. I'm in Vegas for the Super Bowl and I'm excited.
00:02:22
Speaker 5: God, it's pretty awesome. It's pretty awesome.
00:02:25
Speaker 6: I think I'm gonna have to like eat at home cater What wings are like two bucks a pop catering here in New York, because we're gonna have people over two dollars for a chicken wing. It should be like fifty cents. It should be fifty cents. That's like oyster price.
00:02:42
Speaker 3: It'd be like thirty cents. Yeah, so chicken surs oyster prices.
00:02:47
Speaker 6: It's oyster seafood guy, South Florida, dude, come on like that's that's It's like they're acting like chicken wings are a delicacy.
00:02:53
Speaker 5: I might just not eat for the Super Bowl.
00:02:55
Speaker 3: Or get something besides chicken wings.
00:02:57
Speaker 5: Yeah, what's cheaper than chicken wings? Pizza? Yeah, I gus is pizza like super Bowl food?
00:03:05
Speaker 3: You know what, why don't you just make your guests a nice Caesar salad. Go get a salad bowl, Go get some tongs, toss up a nice Caesar and.
00:03:12
Speaker 6: Say, Peter, healthy, guys, how much salad or how many greens have you seen me eat in your life?
00:03:19
Speaker 3: Yeah?
00:03:19
Speaker 4: I'm trying to convince arm to eat more vegetables. I think it just make him feel all the way better because you know, I'm on my juice grind. You're gonna get arm on a vegetable kind of thing, because I don't know how he's surviving without anything green in his entire diet.
00:03:30
Speaker 6: I'm running out of gas. I'm running out of gas. You think this is why I am I am the way I am not enough greens.
00:03:37
Speaker 3: Maybe i'd say go on a walk and eat greens. Like that's got to the recipe of happiness and success.
00:03:45
Speaker 5: I'll try it, all right.
00:03:47
Speaker 3: We got a Q and A. We had a mail bag that we put out on social media Twitter mail Bag, and we got some really good ones. I will run us through these and I will leave it to you guys to offer your staunch opinions. I'll follow with some solid opinions as well. First question came from Lefty d Hills on Twitter. Since the MLB technically isn't testing for steroids and peds at the moment. By the way, that will just ramp right back up once the lockout's over. I promise, who's the one player that you guys think would benefit the most from steroids? RM? You first.
00:04:32
Speaker 6: This is hilarious because we were having this joking conversation about this in the staff chat. I asked for somebody to put together an editive David Fletcher ramped realistically like David Fletcher would be the short term answer. I'd imagine David Fletcher just just barrowing baseballs up instead of just hitting them like it's badminton. But at the same time, what does a rip's David Fletcher still do?
00:05:02
Speaker 3: Like?
00:05:02
Speaker 6: And I don't know if that frame is capable of doing much more. You gotta think like skinny lanky that could put on some like mega strength. I don't know because O'Neal Cruz would be my answer. But he already hits the ball one twenty. How much more power can that guy have? By the answer, what's your answer?
00:05:20
Speaker 5: I want to hear. I want to hear what you got.
00:05:21
Speaker 4: Imagine Byron Buckston on steroids. Oh my dear lore Byron Buckston on steroids. Imagine him filling out to two thirty. He's already got crazy raw power. He could be a sixty to fifty guy. He might get from and the steroids thing. It's helping guys stay healthy. Imagine him on the field for one sixty two roid it up. He'd be the greatest player of all time.
00:05:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was gonna go with a lot of these technical things here. I was gonna say. Anabolic steroids. Those are like the mass builders. Those create more testosterone, Those allow you to, you know, kind of build up your muscle fibers quicker and bigger. They don't help with agility or natural athleticism at all. But if you're watching the Winter Olympics, and I know I'm the only person on this podcast that is watching the Winter Olympics, going, that fifteen year old Russian figure skater tested positive for doping. The substance that she used was a banned heart medication. It was tremittazidine, which helps obviously, like it helps with your heart right, it spells angina attacks, but it also increases blood flow, which in turn reduces fatigue. So I think, give it to a pitcher and let them be healthier than ever, and let them go however long they want. If you choose the right cocktail, I think Jacob Degram is the greatest athlete to ever walk the earth? Was Roger Clemens taken?
00:06:50
Speaker 6: I don't know, give you be Clemens but better? I was thinking, what about like Christian Yelich, Christian Yelich on the juice Man, the way he can back in baseballs in that stadium. I mean, he was already hitting forty jacks. Now help him get through that injury, help him feel a little bit more physical, fill out a little bit Yelly could be a fifty home run guy on the juice, That's my pick.
00:07:12
Speaker 4: I'd go Yelly, what about Trey Turner also? But then he slows down a little bit, right, Ah, Faster faster. Barry Vond's over five hundred stolen bases, even though that doesn't really equate to everyone else who ever has took taking steroids, and he had a lot of them with Pittsburgh. But I'm sticking to it that it's gonna make you faster.
00:07:32
Speaker 3: Fair Okay. Next question from Brennan Mayfield on Twitter, and he concerns about Mike Soroka. Peter You first, Yeah.
00:07:41
Speaker 4: I mean there's obviously concerns with the injury, but I'm not incredibly concerned. Also, if you're the Braves, you have Max Free, Charlie Morton, Wasker, you Knowah, who else am I forgetting? They have like five Jdavidson Talker, Davidson, Kyle Mueller, Kyle ian Anderson is the guy I'm missing. I don't know how I can forget Ian Anderson. But they have so many arms available. Anything you get from Soroca next year is a plus. So, but we haven't seen a ton of reports. But I wouldn't say I'm necessarily concerned. More just anything you get out of him is an absolute plus because they have one of the deepest rotations in baseball.
00:08:21
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean what Peter SAIDs to one hundred percent correct, right, Like, if we look at it from the brave standpoint, I'm not really concerned about their pitching situation with or without Soroka. I'm definitely concerned about Soroka. I was at Game six of the World Series and I'm watching this guy still limping around, you know, before the game, and I that like that, I had like a pit in my stomach cause I was like, I was expecting to see him jog a little bit and be like, oh, Cirroca's on the man.
00:08:47
Speaker 5: He was fully limping, and it's it's kind of nuts. Time flies.
00:08:53
Speaker 6: But when he tore that Achilles the first time, that was in twenty twenty, man, Like, we're going to be into twenty twenty two. We don't know when he's gonna be ready. Achilles is already nuts. I mean, we're seeing some progress in terms of how how that's how you're able to get back from that cam Aker's exhibit A. But I think this was a fully fully severed achille situation, and then he had to get it done again.
00:09:15
Speaker 5: So I'm a little bit worried there.
00:09:17
Speaker 6: I don't know, I haven't heard of if someone having Achille surgery then having to get it again.
00:09:22
Speaker 5: I'm definitely worried.
00:09:23
Speaker 6: I'm definitely worried about him, But from the brave standpoint, you know, again, like Peter said, whatever they get as a bonus and hopefully that will allow them to really roll him in slowly because you don't want to you don't want to risk anything else.
00:09:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, like tons of concerns about Soroka for me on behalf of Mike Soroka, because like, rerupturing an achilles tendon sounds like such a bitch, and I can pinpoint. I want to say two instances with pictures where they tore their UCL, started the rehab process, and then re ruptured their UCL. Daniel Hudson was one of them, the reliever who's pretty solid now, but there was a stretch of like three years of big league where he just couldn't pitch in a major league baseball game because he tore it. He started rehabbing, and then he tore it again in like one of his first rehab outings back and then Anderson Espinoza did it too, he reruptured as UCL and like that whole process. We know the mental health told that it takes on people, and to go through that shit again, like I would be farther in the dumps than anybody and an achilles sounds terrible. But here's what she got a factor in. Soroka made a name for himself when he was stupid young.
00:10:30
Speaker 5: He's still twenty four.
00:10:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not turning twenty five until the beginning of August. So even if he misses two full years of Major League baseball, he could come back from a torn achilles and then a retorn achilles before like a lot of guys his same age make their MLV debut.
00:10:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean de Gromin was pitched at twenty six like as in his first couple of years, like Mike Soroka has.
00:10:53
Speaker 3: Plenty of time.
00:10:53
Speaker 4: That's kind of why I wasn't overly concerned, uh, for Soroka. I'm definitely not concerned for the Braves, but not overly concerned for Mike Soroka.
00:11:01
Speaker 3: He's a young guy.
00:11:02
Speaker 4: I think he's gonna battle back just like he did the first time. I think he'll be okay. It may take a while, but I think he'll be okay.
00:11:08
Speaker 5: Our context, same age as right twenty four.
00:11:12
Speaker 6: Yeah, when's your birthday? July seventeen, so you're older than Soroka. I'm two weeks older than Mike Soroka, which is nuts. And the even crazier part is like Ryan Peppiot is the same age, right, like highly regarded prospect with with the Dodgers. He's the same age as Soroka. So thank goodness he came up quickly. And you know, I think that that really does help the whole the whole situation a good bet.
00:11:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, next one, quick one from Brennan Mayfield. Do the Rangers go for Rodin or Kershaw? Curse Kershaw? Yeah?
00:11:47
Speaker 4: I think Kershaw is as good as a Ranger, like he will be a Ranger. I just don't see the Dodgers. They didn't offer him the qualifying offer. There's obvious concerns there with his health and clean Kershaw is.
00:11:57
Speaker 3: A Dodger for lifer.
00:11:59
Speaker 4: You'd think that if the opportunity to bring back and they really wanted to, that would have done it immediately. Now that they didn't seems more more likely that it'll go back home. Maybe it's a one year deal and it's maybe his last year in baseball with the back and all the injuries that he's had to go through.
00:12:14
Speaker 3: It seems like it's Rangers. I could see Kershaw wanting to do something else. I could I could see.
00:12:19
Speaker 4: Him like an a on a broadcast or something like that, doing like the Manning thing.
00:12:24
Speaker 3: I could see him doing something non baseball related. I could see him doing like charity work.
00:12:29
Speaker 6: Why not just go back close to home, take a big two year deal, and then ride off.
00:12:34
Speaker 5: Into the sunset.
00:12:35
Speaker 3: That's what I'm thinking, you know, control, control.
00:12:37
Speaker 6: Your own, your own exit. I think pulling out, pulling out the sources here, I mean it's it's pretty widely known, but but I definitely feel very confident in the fact that the Rangers are going to pull out all the stops to try to get Kershaw, you know. And that's something that I could say I heard, and I feel good about it from where I heard it, and and you know, it's more up to him. I think the Rangers are going to do whatever I can to get him. They've made it clear that they're gonna spend I mean, they've even already been tied to Matt Olson. I know that's not spending and financially, but it shows that they still feel like they got a lot more work to do in terms of building that team, which we all agree on. Uh, they want to go get Kershaw. That's that's evident and it's true, and I think I think they're going to try.
00:13:18
Speaker 5: It's really up to Kershaw.
00:13:19
Speaker 3: Yeah. A lot of the Instagram questions are really good because I feel like people are more willing to shoot from the hip on Instagram than Twitter, because I think Twitter is a little bit more of a public forum and Instagram it's like, you know what, screw it, I'm gonna ask some fun questions. First one comes from cy Ingersoll on Instagram. If you had to spend a day with one baseball player, pastor present, who would it be? I think I've got the best answer here, so I'm gonna go last. Can you go first?
00:13:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good one. There's so many names, you know, there's so many guys I would go with, but I'd say Satchel Page one. I wouldn't want to try to. I didn't convince him to tell me how old he is. But two, I would just we talk about.
00:14:04
Speaker 5: Arm issues and health issues and all those things.
00:14:06
Speaker 6: I would love to just talk to Satchel about how he was able to throw a baseball for one hundred years and throw it hard like he threw.
00:14:12
Speaker 5: Gas back then, like gas. So I would love to talk to Satchel page Cool.
00:14:18
Speaker 3: I love that one.
00:14:19
Speaker 4: I mean, I'm kind of going along the same Obviously, I would love to speak to Jackie Robinson more than anything. Jackie Robinson would be the one name. But another on the side Oscar Charleston. When we were talking to Joe Poznanski, he ranked him as the fifth best player of all time and talked about how he's afraid of not overrating them, but he's actually afraid of underrating them. I would love ten minutes with Oscar Charleston, or just to be able to watch him play, but to sit down and speak with that's Jackie Robinson.
00:14:49
Speaker 3: Fair. My immediate reaction was, like, each Heiro, I want to spend a day with each Heiro. I want to know, like how baseball oriented this guy? This guy's life is like, I want to know, do you have any interest outside of baseball? But then I got to thinking and I was like Okay, I want to spend a day with Darryl Strawberry because I want to know if all the crazy shit I've heard about Darryl Strawberry off the field is actually true. I just want to be a fly on the wall and like my liver couldn't take a night with Daryl Strawberry, But like, damn, I want to see it.
00:15:21
Speaker 4: Is it bad that I would love to just sit down with sho Hey, No, it's.
00:15:24
Speaker 6: Not bad at all, and well, and Darryl is on a multi layered you know side of it. I would love to talk to him about life. I mean, this guy overcame a lot of stuff and a lot of demons and seems to be in a pretty good place too. And that's that's definitely a great one and a fun fact on each Er. Oh you know, he had a personal vacuum and would vacuum the area around his locker. I love that Niner talks about each Row a lot on Outside the Box because we'll bring him up as like just the pros pro but like each Row spoke Damn near flew in English, yet still had a translator because he didn't want to be ever be misinterpreted at all. Like his biggest fear was being misinterpreted. There's just so many interesting things about him. That's definitely a great one, too cool.
00:16:07
Speaker 3: Next question from Evan Reaper, is Barry Bond's single season home run record touchable? If so, who has the best shot? Not even close to touchable? Fifty is incredible. He hit seventy three, seventy three home runs, you know, one hundred and sixty two games. I don't even think did he play all one sixty two that year? I don't know. Let's got a baseball reference.
00:16:36
Speaker 4: But I'll just keep going with my point because there's just no way anyone's gonna get close to touching it. And I was thinking about it, you know, is Pete Alonso the guy who you know, if you had a chance to get to seventy three, could Pete Alonso do it? I think it's got to be someone freakier, you know what I'm saying, Like, it's got to be an absolute freak season.
00:16:55
Speaker 3: So, and the first thought.
00:16:57
Speaker 4: That comes to mind when I think someone who could touch it and we're talking a freak show, who would just go off in a random season, I think that's Fernando Tatis Junior. I think there's anyone in baseball. He's the freak show that could do it. Possibly, Jen Carlos Stanton is another one.
00:17:12
Speaker 6: Gian Carlo is like quote unquote close right. I mean he had fifty nine in that MVP season in Marlins Park, where you figure if he if he's playing, if he did that, if he if he replicated that exact season in Yankee Stadium, I think you're probably looking at more like sixty four sixty five.
00:17:29
Speaker 4: I think it's a sixth homer difference.
00:17:32
Speaker 6: Yeah, Marlin's Park to Yankee Stadium. Absolutely, I bet Savant will probably have that, maybe it's three or four. Regardless, that gets yet like sixty two sixty three, and that's like the max. Like I think that's the max of what is possible in today's game. I think someone, I think someone's gonna get sixty. I do think someone will get sixty in our lifetime, but I don't think seventy three is.
00:17:56
Speaker 5: In the cards. I think sixty can happen, though.
00:18:00
Speaker 3: As long as Major League Baseball as drug testing, seventy three is never gonna happen again. I promise you that. I think that is more untouchable than DiMaggio's fifty six, and I think fifty six is still incredibly untouchable.
00:18:13
Speaker 6: I think seventy three is way more, way more doable. Fifty six will never no one's even no one's even either. No, I think I think the fifty six in today's game is so freaking impossible.
00:18:26
Speaker 3: It's impossible.
00:18:27
Speaker 6: Forty I don't think anybody will ever have a forty game hitting streak again, Like, well, I think we'll see No, I'm serious, we will never see a forty game hitting streak again. It's too hard, it's too hard. We have a no hitter every week. It's too hard to hit in today's game, day in and day out. Like Pete Rose was the closest, and he didn't get to fifty.
00:18:46
Speaker 5: He was in the forties. I don't think anybody gets there.
00:18:50
Speaker 3: Jack hitter? What twenty nine? Who Jackie Bradley junior? He got to twenty nine and like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen? Is that right? Do you have a really long one too?
00:19:01
Speaker 6: It was Luis Castillo had a big one. I remember Leis Caestio had like a thirty two, thirty two guy.
00:19:06
Speaker 5: Yeah, j Rowl had a.
00:19:08
Speaker 6: Thirty thirty eight, thirty nine or thirty eight, But I don't think anybody's cracked forty since Pete Rose in nineteen seventy eight. So like you're you're looking at a situation here where I don't think anyone's cracking thirty five.
00:19:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, I just I don't think seventy three is touchable, Like I don't think anybody can get close to seventy three again. If they do, I don't think that person's alive right now. Like I think it's gonna take, however, many genetic mutations of the human race to form this weird like centaur like creature to hit seventy four bombs in a year. Barry Bonds two thousand and one, when he hit seventy three bombs, he played one hundred and fifty three games, and his home run rate was eleven percent. That's got to be the highest clip ever. Eleven percent of his batted balls were home runs. That's what.
00:20:00
Speaker 5: That's pretty stupid.
00:20:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's that's.
00:20:06
Speaker 4: Deserved, like a little bit of quiet from us, dud Like sometimes just taking what he just said, eleven percent run rate.
00:20:15
Speaker 3: It's really hard to get away with quiet time on a podcast.
00:20:19
Speaker 4: We sometimes need that just for a desaking what that even is.
00:20:23
Speaker 3: But I don't want the listener to be like, ah damn, like did did the audio pause? For some I don't want them to acknowledge it. But here let's acknowledge the quiet time. Yes, quiet Okay. Next question, I'm in a silence Question five from a J Boscher nine on Instagram. What's the realistic timeline for the Tigers to be a playoff contender? Could they still be in play for an outfield or maybe confordo this off season? Let's start with realistic timeline, Pete you first.
00:20:59
Speaker 4: Realistic time? I mean, I answered this question. It seems like once a day on the live stream and I go, I go up close to the screen and I say, Tigers fans, come close. Do we believe in the pitching? Do we believe in Matt Manning? Do we believe in Trek School? Do we believe in Casey Mice? Because there's no doubt about the offense. I mean, especially with the addition of Javier by As you got Spencer Torkals and Riley Green coming up. We know how much I love Hi Amerk Candelario. They got dudes, But it's just will the young pitching end up being what we all hope it to be.
00:21:31
Speaker 3: I don't know.
00:21:31
Speaker 4: I don't know if I believe in Matt Manning. I don't know if I believe in Trek's school, and I believe in Casey Meies, but that belief has has dwindled slightly when you just, you know, take a look at a savant page and obviously I'm not gonna take that fully away from him because when I watch, I do see a good pitcher. But I don't know if I believe in this starting rotation. And then Jackson job is still a little while away unless sucks, Like I don't think this is the Verlander, Porcello, Scherzer guy that are coming up.
00:22:00
Speaker 3: So I don't know. I don't really have like a date.
00:22:04
Speaker 4: I need to see this season how they perform, and then I can give you a better answer. But this is a big year for Manning and Schooble especially and Mice.
00:22:14
Speaker 6: Yeah, I think you know this year is going to be no matter what the Tigers say, no matter what the front office is, this is a feel it out year for them. They want to see what the deal is with these three arms, because this is the year where you can really figure out what you're going to get from each of those guys, Right, Scooble, you'll have your answer of what you think he can be. Same with my same with Manning. I think Manning you could probably give a little bit more time. I was really disappointed with Manning. I'm more optimistic on Schooble, and I don't love Casey Miyes, And I know this is what always ends up going.
00:22:44
Speaker 5: Our conversation goes back and we have that bed.
00:22:46
Speaker 6: I forget what the number is on eer Jack will have to go back and dig that up. But I don't really believe in myz. I like Eduardo for them. You know, that's a guy that's gonna be with them for the next few years. Their their offense is a lot better, they have a catcher, you know, they have a lot of things going for them in terms of who's coming up through the system. But I really think that they're going to assess this year, see how the three young guys do, and then go from there. I think what's going to happen is they're going to be severely disappointed by Manning, gonna be fun with Scooble, and I think they're going to be shifted with their reality of Mies but okay with him moving forward as kind of a middle to back end guy. So if they go out and get an arm you know, in free agency, and maybe Alex Fayato comes up, or they trade for somebody, this could be a.
00:23:33
Speaker 5: Team that's competitive. So I think they could compete in the next two years.
00:23:37
Speaker 6: I really do, because I believe in that offense and it's young and it's only going to get better. They're going to get Maggy off the books in the next two years, and I think that money's gonna be reinvested back.
00:23:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. You see competition in the next two years from the Detroit Tigers, Like I just twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three. I feel like eh, I set the date at twenty twenty four because Riley Green and Spencer Torklsim will be entering their second full season. They're both going to debut in twenty two. They're gonna have a full season of twenty three, and then twenty twenty four they should be all systems go. That's when schoobl and Maize hit arbitration. So you're going to totally have your answer by the get Miggy's off the books. No, candel Ario on the roster, but Biez is only going to be thirty one years old at the start of twenty twenty four. I mean, like, I think that's the year where you let these guys work through their young kinks, and then you also have Job come up for his rookie year. His ETA's right around twenty twenty four, and you have the chance to make some moves and see what you have. So like, you know, you talk about this being an assessment year for the Tigers in twenty twenty two. Arm Like, I'm with you. Use twenty twenty two as an assessment year. Go sign what you need to improve upon twenty twenty three. That's when you locate the remaining flaws. Go sign what you need to improve upon, and then your all systems go. And I think twenty twenty four is the year the Tigers really storm the castle.
00:25:02
Speaker 4: It's also just interesting too, because if they're gonna make the playoffs, that means one team's gonna be out and the Al East is still stacked, and the White Sox are still gonna be really good. Luis Robert Llojimenez, you know, Michael Kopek. They got a lot of young guys too. The Angels are right in their peak where they have to win now. The Astros are still a really good team. The American League is just very competitive. And also we're not even talking about the Guardians. We're excited for the Guardian's future. You know, they have a lot of strong prospects as well, and I would say they have better young pitching. I don't think they have the offense that the Tigers do.
00:25:37
Speaker 3: So it's it's tough.
00:25:38
Speaker 4: It's like, we can see the Tigers being much better, but then who's coming out of the playoff picture in the next two years.
00:25:45
Speaker 6: But you know, it's funny, the Royals and the Tigers are kind of carbon copies of each other.
00:25:49
Speaker 3: Right.
00:25:50
Speaker 6: They have a lot of really exciting offensive prospects, some good young players as well, a little bit of a balance of some veterans that can swing it, and then just young arms that you just don't quite know, you just don't quite know yet, you don't know yet, And that's that's kind of the same thing I think you see across both teams. So, uh, it'll be a race between those two teams. I think one of them will figure it out and one of them might not so it should be fun to watch.
00:26:14
Speaker 3: Let's answer the second part of the question at the same time. Did the Tigers sign a relatively big name outfielder once the lockout ends three two one? No, no, no, there we go? Shall we move on? I don't see it.
00:26:32
Speaker 5: There's no need. There's no need.
00:26:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, no need, go figure go figure out, Go get another picture.
00:26:38
Speaker 4: Yeah, really do anything, go get rodne Bobby Grossman was good last year.
00:26:42
Speaker 3: Ye, he was good.
00:26:43
Speaker 6: He walks a ton, he can steal bags, he's got sneaky pop, he's a good player.
00:26:48
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:26:49
Speaker 4: If Riley Green coming up, I agree. Don't touch the offiel. You don't need to, but do and but do good.
00:26:55
Speaker 3: Next question from Jakars eleven j A c Aja Cars eleven. How long until you think the Gnats get back to contention? Will Soto stay with them or is he going to want to get out of there and win now? I think that's an interesting question because Soto's stuck in Washington until the end of the twenty twenty four season. The Gnats, while they did go and get Kibar Ruiz and Josiah Gray, have one of the worst farm systems in baseball. I understand they have Cavali. I understand they have rutledge, but there is nothing going on in that system. The Gnats are in one of the worst spots in baseball right now with arguably the best player in baseball, and he's off the books after twenty twenty four. The Gnats will not be competitive through twenty twenty four. So Soto's gonna go get paid a billion dollars, not by the Gnats. And to be totally honest, like I sat there for like two three minutes and I actually just tried to put a year as to like when the Nats are going to be competitive again. And I think them more than anybody else in baseball. I just can't tell you when they're going to be competitive next. Like it's so funny.
00:28:11
Speaker 4: I had the exact same reaction, like I'm looking at their farm system, I'm looking at their roster, and I'm like, the Nats are screwed. Yeah, They're screwed. I love Kid Cafali. I do think he could be an eighties.
00:28:25
Speaker 3: Besides that, So, I have a question to post to you guys.
00:28:31
Speaker 4: Would it be ridiculous to test the market for wan So because because because you could have a franchise altering move, like you could get five tippity top prospects that would change your franchise, especially where their farm is. Because we know baseball it's a one man show. One Soto cannot do it on his own. Mike Trout's like, never want a playoff game? Do you want just a one Soto? Mike Trout the same thing, never makes the playoffs. But at least you have one Soto, and at least you didn't trade him. I don't think it's ridiculous to just see what it would just see with someone empty, the like with the Mariners. Absolutely give Huluro Rodriguez, like, give everything for one Soto, because then you I'm just saying, I don't think it's stupid.
00:29:21
Speaker 6: I if I took over for the Washington Nationals, like if that, if I took the job over, I would try as best as possible to come up with any plan to make this team better without trading one Soto, of course, but I don't think I would be able to. I really think I would trade him. And you have to also know that there's there's a level of I don't even know if they can afford to extend him. I mean, if they couldn't afford to extend Vice Harper and Afford is do they want to? I don't think they want to. Uh, A lot of teams just to have a policy against giving out that much money. You know what, the way a lot of these contracts have ended up. I don't blame organizations for not wanting to do that. If I was an owner, I would I would struggle to justify giving four hundred million dollars. So players, they just don't age well, all just stacked against you. When you look at the system. Cavali could be, could be great. Cole Henry is really good. I loved the Brady House pick. These these are guys that like a couple pitchers, they'll help a little bit. Uh that there's no bats that are gonna help you anytime soon zero. Like Brady House could be a star, he's so.
00:30:27
Speaker 3: Far away like a star twenty twenty six.
00:30:30
Speaker 5: There's nobody else. Carter key Boom not panning out.
00:30:33
Speaker 3: It was crazy. Yeah, it was like six years, six years.
00:30:37
Speaker 6: Carter Keeboom not panning out is a huge, huge blow to them. Uh, they don't have any path, Like, there's no path, there's no talent outside of the select few guys that we mentioned. I think you would have to make that trade, as crazy as it sounds, because this is the only way that you can jump start this whole thing. It's really the only way, and you're not gonna be able to spend your way out of it.
00:30:59
Speaker 5: With with Strasbourg and Corban.
00:31:01
Speaker 6: Eventually coming off the books, which isn't for a while, you're not gonna be able to spend your way out of it. So I would start over. Roebless and Keeboom not pinning out killed them.
00:31:09
Speaker 3: Oh my god, Victor Robliss not pinning out. It was like the nail in the coffin for them right away if you had Roeblass and Soto when they both were who they were supposed to be. I mean, we're working with house money right here with the Gnats like Boom, but Roblss sucking is not good a way to measure organizational success and like just a deep farm overall, Like you know, we talked about at the end of the twenty twenty one season, like pretty much every Raise affiliate had a crazy good record by year's end. The Gnats I was with their short season affiliate. In twenty nineteen, they finished last place in the New York Penn League by quite a wide margin. In twenty twenty one, the Fredericksburg Nationals, the Low A affiliate of the NATS, had I want to say, like in zero and twenty start to the regular season, like when your minor league teams are really bad, that means that you don't have really good players there. And they have like some guys that I really like a lot of those guys, Like I really like as people a lot of those guys, and I think that a couple of them can turn out to be really good baseball players. But like, you can't find me twenty five guys in that system right now that can put together a winning team in Triple A or Double A or HIA or Low A. Like it's really hard to find ten guys that are ready for a certain level that can actually win baseball games.
00:32:29
Speaker 6: And how do you get that talent? Yeah, like how do you accumulate it? Because you look at the projected lineup right now on Fangrafts Lane, Thomas Seesar Hernandez, Juan Soto, Josh bell Yadiel Hernandez, kibert Ruiz Alcid Escobar, Carter, Kei Boom, and Victor Roblisz. We know that Strasbourg and Corbin's contracts are immovable. Josiah Gray is one of the only controllable pieces you have. Realistically, the only piece that you can really trade for a return outside of Soto is Josh Bell and then yeah, any of the other guys, you're getting a marginal return. So in that and that right there kind of tells you everything. How else are you going to get your team where you.
00:33:07
Speaker 3: Need to go.
00:33:08
Speaker 6: You can't stockpile draft picks, You can't do anything else. You have to I think you have to cash in your only asset.
00:33:15
Speaker 4: Really, I thought you guys were gonna be so pissed to me for bringing up trading one Sottle, But doesn't it seem like the only option Jack, Like, what else do they do?
00:33:23
Speaker 3: Because as constructed nothing they could get fucked like the Machado thing. Like you remember when Baltimore got screwed with Manny Machado. They should have built him before that year started.
00:33:37
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, they they sneakily had a good season the year before though, and they wanted to run it back, and you know, like I respect that, It just it imploded on them, like they actually had a good year the year before.
00:33:46
Speaker 5: And wanted to run it back.
00:33:48
Speaker 6: It didn't work out, But like they can't do that because if they do, If THENTS do that and they can't cash in on Soto, they're screwed for for years to come. They're gonna have to hit on every They'd have to hit on every draft pick. It would be no other way. So this is the they have one redeemable asset and they got to cash it in. I don't know when, but they got to cash it in.
00:34:10
Speaker 3: You compare it, can you compare it to a situation in the NBA. I mean we're after the trade deadline now, Like can you compare it to what happened, Like what had to happen for Minnesota, Like Karl Anthony Towns is a superstar, Anthony Edwards looks like a superstar, but they got to hit on everybody, and like they're still not even close to championship caliber and they won't be for the foreseeable future.
00:34:31
Speaker 6: Well, and the beautiful thing in the NBA, though, is you just you hit on a couple of draft pick or two and you sign a guy and that's your starting five. Like that's the difference Whereas for baseball, how do you replace or how do you improve twenty five men?
00:34:45
Speaker 5: How do you do that? With the draft?
00:34:48
Speaker 6: You won't be able to implement them quickly. You can't just sign guys through free agency. It's it's gonna be a pain for them. I know people might think it's nuts that we want to do this, but I think if you give it one more year, see some of these guys, guys do if anyone you know sticks out or anybody pops up in your system, and maybe something goes that way, But I think so too ends up being dealt.
00:35:08
Speaker 3: Speaking of futures of franchisees, next question comes from Brendan Shelley, who has a brighter foreseeable future the Orioles or the Phillies. Pete, You first, this.
00:35:24
Speaker 4: Little a tough one because you'd think, oh, it's clearly the Phillies, right.
00:35:31
Speaker 3: Might not be the Phillies.
00:35:32
Speaker 4: Ools have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball, and you can't get any worse than they're doing right now. And we've talked about the Phillies. When it comes to free agents, how they have to sign guys. They have to sign guys because arm correct me if I'm wrong, this Philly system isn't that great now. And on the major league roster you have Bryce Harper, and you have jjil Muto, and you have Rhee Hoskins, and you have Zach Wheeler and you have Averon Nola.
00:35:57
Speaker 3: After that.
00:35:59
Speaker 4: Cricket, I would say the Orioles as crazy as it sounds, because they have young, controllable talent in the big leagues right now, pretty solid players. Cedric Molmes is a star right Mount Castle could at thirty five bombs. They have some guys, and then they have a slew of young prospects. But Phillies are just managed better than the Orioles. Like we've said this before, is that when it's so close with like Adley, Bobby Wit Julio, I sometimes give it to the organizations who I think can develop their players just a little bit better, Like the Orioles have had some of these great prospects come up and just haven't really been able to unlock them develop them like they should be.
00:36:40
Speaker 3: Jack.
00:36:40
Speaker 4: Remember we had that whole podcast episode on how many players have gone from Baltimore. All these pitchers like Kevin Gosman, Josh Hater and have left. So it's it's there's a lot of both sides, but I go with the Orioles.
00:36:58
Speaker 5: Jack, what are your thoughts?
00:37:00
Speaker 3: So, Like, Baltimore's got a way better system and they've got the number one overall pick this year, and Ryan Miller just published a wonderful mock draft. You can find that on just Baseball dot com. He's got brooks Lee going to Baltimore at one to one. Tamar Johnson he has going second overall. I know that a lot of Orioles fans are gonna want Tamar Johnson, but I think brooks Lee lines up better with the window that's going to open for Baltimore. Like College bat, He'll get up well, Adlee and g Rod and Dale Hall are still under a ton of control and then he all of a sudden joins Gunner Henderson on the ascent there. So in terms of like who's there right now, the Orioles. But we also know that the Orioles have this affinity for fucking situations up.
00:37:47
Speaker 5: Yeah, like they are.
00:37:50
Speaker 3: I mean, they've proved in recent memory to be kind of the most inept organization in baseball when it comes to some decisions there.
00:38:00
Speaker 4: And the reality ever seen worse pitching than last year, last year's pitching staff. I mean, I think they had a five eight five yarra.
00:38:06
Speaker 3: They were utter dog shit on the mound, right, So g Rod works out, Hall works out. You gotta find like eleven other guys.
00:38:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, And the thing with Phillies have like those two guys who already made it and then they're in that situation with then what's after that? I mean, Zach Allen is a decent arm mckabel, but like you love mcabel, armed, you love mcable, I like.
00:38:31
Speaker 6: Abel, I like Able. I think he's he's gonna be good, but he's still far off. You know, he's gonna be three years.
00:38:38
Speaker 3: But look at Philly, though Statt's gonna be up this year. You've got a Hall of Famer coming off of his second MVP who's in his prime, and you've got him for the foreseeable future. And Philadelphia is a top ten market in baseball in the United States. It is a top ten city. So like, they're gonna spend more money, and I just think the Phillies are gonna be more willing to put the money where their mouth is than Baltimore ever would. I mean, Baltimore is forever going to have a sub fifty million dollars payroll. If they're allowed to have a sub fifty million dollar payroll.
00:39:13
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I really. My thing with the Orioles is I love like I agree with a lot of what Peter said, like offensively, I think they project to be one of the more exciting teams in the next few years, and they have They have a knack for drafting hit tool guys that develop power, and I love that. I love that approach, and it seems to be working with them on that side of things. But they just can't develop pitching. G Rod is developed because he's a freak himself, and DL Hall is just disgusting. He's been battling injuries. I'm nervous about DLL Hall's health and g Rod's the only guy they really have there. They're not going to sign anybody pitching wise, how are they Their system is all bats for the most part. I'm a little bit nervous about who's gonna freaking pitch for them. Where I look at the Phillies, They're gonna make some trades, like they just restocked a little bit after the draft. I wouldn't be shocked if if Dombrowski says see it, Andy Painter. You know they just drafted Andrew Paynter first round, big high school arm. He's gonna take a long time to get there. They have two big high school arms, and Mick Abel and Andy Paynter are ables better. I could see them saying, see a painter, package him with somebody else and go get another piece. If that happens. I mean, now, this rotation is interesting because I love Zach Wheeler, we all do. Nola is still a really good two who's going to have a better year next year. Ranger Suarez man like he came out of nowhere, was a guy. Kyle Gibson is not great, but he's a good four.
00:40:43
Speaker 5: And they went and gotten.
00:40:45
Speaker 6: Hans Kraus, who I think could be a fine five. So if they if they go get somebody else, they're in good shape. And Alec Bohm is still twenty five. I think he could start to turn things around. If he doesn't, then you know they can go look at other areas there.
00:40:57
Speaker 5: I just love the core. I love reeseaw Hoskins.
00:41:00
Speaker 6: He's still only twenty nine, like you said, Bryce Harper, only twenty nine, Realmuto thirty one, like they still have a lot of run with these guys in another two three years.
00:41:08
Speaker 5: I'm interested to see what they do.
00:41:09
Speaker 6: But I believe in in the Phillies just being able to make lemonade out of lemons a bit more than the Orioles.
00:41:15
Speaker 5: That's really it.
00:41:17
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:41:17
Speaker 4: I think I went out on a limb there, just because I do love this oriol system so much, but the Phillies like they're an eighty win teamer above all. The Orioles are trying to get up to seventy wins. I mean, that's just sixty. They're trying to get just sixty wins literally, so and I was more thinking, Wow, the Phillies system seems to be pretty barren. They're major league roster is not that strong right now. But then again, post lockout, that could go get comforted, they could go get a big short stop and then they're right back to being contenders in the NALY East. So I'd like to change my answer from the Ools to the Phillies. But I think what I meant was was just how good this Ools farm system is.
00:41:54
Speaker 6: Well, And what's crazy is is again, like when we were talking about Phillies moves during the season, I'm like, I don't even know how they could feasibly make a trade Like now, they could feasibly make a trade like they could package Andy Paynter, Johann Rojas and like even in Alec Bohm and get it, get to dude like that they could.
00:42:10
Speaker 5: Get Matt Chapman with that.
00:42:12
Speaker 6: So you know that that's the thing here, Like they are a mover two away from going up there where the Orioles just they need a lot to happen. All that to say, the Orioles are heading in the right direction. They just got to figure out the pitching.
00:42:24
Speaker 3: Yeah. Uh, this is mostly an arm question I think from Kevin Beryl Kevin underscore b A R R A L barral, barrel barrel.
00:42:34
Speaker 5: Hey, he's the man.
00:42:35
Speaker 3: I see, Okay, they absolutely makes sense them the content of this question here. Do you believe that Max Meyer and JJ Blede make their debuts for the Marlins thoughts on Peyton Burdick in center field if needed for twenty twenty two.
00:42:49
Speaker 5: That's a great question. Uh.
00:42:52
Speaker 6: Well, Blade showed up to camp beefed up twenty pounds of muscle, which is pretty sick after what he just did in the Arizona.
00:42:58
Speaker 5: A Fall League.
00:42:59
Speaker 6: So I think Boude cracks the big leagues this here, and I think he's gonna do pretty well. I'm really sold them on the swing adjustments. Everything I've heard from from Marlin's camp is really positive about the day and the fact that he added muscle. I mean, this was a guy that just wasn't that physical before at all, Like you just relied on natural hit hitting ability. Marlins need a guy that has bats to ball skills.
00:43:19
Speaker 5: To Day'll be that dude for them. Holly up Meyer.
00:43:23
Speaker 6: Again, it's more about where does he fit in than anything, right, Like who are you booting from the rotation? I mean, I'll turn that question on you, guys, because I think Meyer's pretty close to big league ready. He'll be ready after ten starts. But under the assumption that let's say Lozardo's throwing, well, it's it's Sandi al Contra, Trevor Rodgers, Pablo Lopez, Eliezer Hernandez, and and Jesus Wizardo potentially Edward Cabrera.
00:43:50
Speaker 5: Do I say Edward Cabrera, No.
00:43:51
Speaker 4: You haven't said him so, but you didn't even put him in, So I was like, well, can kick him out now.
00:43:56
Speaker 5: Edward Cabrera?
00:43:57
Speaker 6: And then Eliezer is the odd man out already, so like they might try and trade him. Who are you booting? Assuming everyone's like throwing pretty well, what do you do? What do you do with Max Meyer?
00:44:06
Speaker 4: Do you think Max Meyer could serve as maybe like a Copek type role where he's coming out of the bullpen maybe four fifth inning kind of in there, and then maybe work him into the rotation for his or if he's just such a weapon back there and keep him there because you can kind of full with him however you like. And isn't he's more of a two pitch guy right now? Right he's kind of yeah, developed that third I.
00:44:26
Speaker 6: Was really encouraged by the change up, but yeah, I mean like that's the big question, like how is the changeup going to be? I think that's a great idea, Pete, because this is a Marlins team. I know you guys will laugh, but like they're trying to win now, Like they're trying to do as well as they can, and they're better off putting Max Meyer in two three inning situations spots start and have him up at the big leagues, like we've seen that that doesn't necessarily stunt growth as we saw with with Crochet, we've seen it with with Copiic. That would give the Marlins a little bit more flexibility there, and it gives him some big league experience. I think that makes the most sense, and that gives them Marlins a better arm out of the pen, which their pen sucked last year. I don't care about the bullpeny A.
00:45:05
Speaker 5: Ray, it sucked.
00:45:06
Speaker 6: There was no one that they actually could trust to get swings and missus. They need swinging miss guys in the pen. That might be the role for him.
00:45:12
Speaker 4: Go buy some bats with the.
00:45:15
Speaker 3: Like go, go trade for some hitters like Eliezer Hernandez and Jake Eater, Like, send them. You've got Eerie Perez coming up too. They have so many starting pitchers. Like, go get a big league contributor at third base or in the outfield, maybe a center fielder, and like old, there we go. We're preaching to the choir.
00:45:38
Speaker 6: Fucking no, dude, I know you're preaching to the choir. If if I were in charge, that would have been done six months ago. It would have been it would have been done last year. I don't know what's like, I don't know what's going on. They they're stockpiling fifty arms and that I'm interested to see what happens on the other side of the walkout because it's just it's crazy to me. They did want to start a having Garcia and said, I don't do it, don't do it, don't do it.
00:46:05
Speaker 5: But Burdick. I think Burdick's good at a corner?
00:46:07
Speaker 3: What that good at a corner?
00:46:10
Speaker 5: Is that good at anything?
00:46:11
Speaker 3: Yeah?
00:46:11
Speaker 4: That sounds like I don't remember him being a great defense over there in the corner.
00:46:15
Speaker 5: He's not good at anything. He's good hit, fine, he's fine.
00:46:20
Speaker 3: I just don't know.
00:46:20
Speaker 4: Moving over from Milwaukee to Miami, how's that gonna work for him?
00:46:24
Speaker 6: Yeah, after a career year and he's had one I think he was a one o eight WRC plus guy for his career as a corner outfielder. No thanks, Berdick to wrap up. Bro Quick can play center. Great athlete, it's just how much contact is he going to make? But that's a guy I'd love to see get in the mix out there. Crazy power walks a time, and the defense is good enough out there.
00:46:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, he had a thirty six percent k raid in eight games in Triple A. He was like four for twenty eight in Triple A. I gotta see him hit Triple A pitching before he hits big league pitching. But like that's a month in Triple A. I think he's good.
00:46:55
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, And you know he walks, it's ton to offset it, which you know if he's if he's a twenty eight k k guy, but he walks fourteen percent, you know that's palatable if you can, if that can translate it, that's great.
00:47:05
Speaker 3: If he can walk fourteen percent.
00:47:07
Speaker 6: He broke them. He broke the Marlin single season walk record.
00:47:11
Speaker 3: Verdick. I know you've heard this story, arum Berdick and couldt it was a tempt Yeah, he a non guaranteed contract. In Game one of the Cape season in twenty eighteen, he hits three bombs in a game, So then can you believe that the rest of the year.
00:47:26
Speaker 5: That's taste.
00:47:28
Speaker 3: That was the first full baseball game I've ever called. Wow, really did it against the Brewster Whitecaps. Peyton Burdick, No, dude, that's that's awesome. That's so cool.
00:47:39
Speaker 5: That's so cool.
00:47:39
Speaker 6: So funny enough my host family that Michael and Barbara who were kind enough to host me for the whole summer. Burdick lived with them the summer before, so that was one of the first things I heard was because it was right around the time of the draft, and they're like, they're freaking out. They're so excited about Peyton because they they're so close. I stay close with Michael and Barbara still still to this day.
00:47:59
Speaker 5: Uh, and they.
00:48:00
Speaker 6: Were so amped for him, and that's they told me that story. And I was like, talk about rising to the occasion because for people that might not know, you have your full season Cape Coddleague players, but because some players come in at different times. You know, some are tired, need a couple of weeks, some are still going in the College World Series. There's temp players that will jump on the opportunity to just be there for a couple of weeks, and very few will be able to convince enough to stick on the roster. And usually when the rest of the guys come, they send the other ones home. Hitting three home runs is it's temp guy is a pretty damn good way to convince people that you should stick around.
00:48:30
Speaker 5: And that's just kind of like the gamer that Burdick is.
00:48:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, and he was a Cape League All Star that year. I mean, shout out Peyton Burdick. We end the pod with a Peter focused question, this one coming from Kevin Gross. If the Yankees sign a new shortstop, will they have a legit shot at the World Series floor? Is yours?
00:48:49
Speaker 4: It depends on what shortstop. If they signed Carlos Krat, yes, I think they have a legit shot. If they signed Trevor's Story, I do think that they have a legit shot at a World Series title. Do I think they're gonna win by just doing that alone. No, they have to go get a guy like Matt Olson or even re sign Anthony Rizzo. They have to make sure that they're upgrading at first base, that they're upgrading at shortstop. And I would love another starting pitcher, you know. I like John Montgomery, I like jameson Tyan. I like some of these young arms coming up. But with Luis Savarino's arm troubles, I'm assuming that he's going to be okay. But right now, behind Garrett Cole, there's a lot of question marks. I do love my guy Nester, and I think he's gonna be a valuable piece next year in that rotation, But right now shortstop is an area of concern. But by just getting one of the big shortstops. I don't think that puts you in pristine world series contention.
00:49:41
Speaker 5: Where does Induhar fit fit in.
00:49:43
Speaker 4: Universal d Do you hear? The American League gets two dhs? Now, so we have and nowhar at the second DH, and his his trade stock skyrocketed this morning.
00:49:54
Speaker 3: He was literally ethereum and l teams.
00:49:57
Speaker 5: Yeah he's ethereum all right, right now.
00:50:00
Speaker 3: He just went to a sixty hit tool like you've never seen.
00:50:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, he's he's let's see. Actually crazy enough.
00:50:06
Speaker 6: I saw a trade proposal today with and Dow Harran and it was not satirical.
00:50:11
Speaker 3: Oh what do you mean? Are you sure?
00:50:13
Speaker 4: Because now you think with him and it has now been deemed satirical.
00:50:17
Speaker 5: No, no, this one was not satirical. It was It was good.
00:50:19
Speaker 6: It was it was a very serious offer and it was and then just like do was just like thrown in there though like it was one of those where like the offer was fine as it is, it was an offer they just threw the I gotta pull it back up.
00:50:31
Speaker 5: It was funny though. It was a good one. Uh, but people are.
00:50:34
Speaker 6: Always just throwing a douja out there. It's it's it's one of my favorite memes. But Glabor, where does he do?
00:50:40
Speaker 4: Glabor's gonna move over to second and I'm i'm I. I know you guys are more down on Glabor. When he moved over to second base, it seemed like it was more of.
00:50:49
Speaker 3: A all right, now I'm relaxed. Now I can focus on the bat.
00:50:53
Speaker 4: Whether that's true or not, that's what it seemed like from watching him on a day to day basis.
00:50:57
Speaker 3: He seemed more relaxed.
00:50:58
Speaker 4: To the plate, and then number showed that he was better once he moved over to second base. Yeah, I'd put DJ at third.
00:51:05
Speaker 5: DJ a third, and then you just say peace to to the guy.
00:51:09
Speaker 4: No, go is gonna be he's gonna have to move around the infield like he's gonna have to be our utility guy. He's he can play some shortstop, he can play some third base. You could put him over at second and he'd be fine to a Yankee shift a ton anyway.
00:51:21
Speaker 3: Hey what about DJ at first?
00:51:24
Speaker 4: No, I don't love DJ at first because I think that that dampens his defensive abilities. Because DJ LeMay, who is a great defender, but I think his worst defensive position is first base, and it's also a position that is not It's not one of the most important positions defensively on the field. Like I'd rather him at second base, I'd rather him at third base. He's better there, and those positions mean more when it comes to defense.
00:51:48
Speaker 3: Anyway.
00:51:50
Speaker 6: Have you thought about Aaron Hicks at shortstop's under contract for another five years?
00:51:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, but he makes no money, So I'm not that worried about no money.
00:52:00
Speaker 6: Making more money than any Marlins made in the last ten years.
00:52:03
Speaker 4: I mean, what do you want me to say, like about the Martin like they're not paying hitters because Aaron Hicks is making ten million dollars a year doesn't mean like that's a bad contract because the Marlins don't spend money on their bats.
00:52:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, seven year seventies, pretty pretty trash.
00:52:17
Speaker 3: Listen, Moorida, no stadium Tacks, New York. How much do you pay for that shoebox apartment you live in right now? And your task rabbit still hasn't come to hang your hang your stuff in the background.
00:52:27
Speaker 5: I know I haven't. I haven't put the task grabbit request in yet. I haven't, and I've got more.
00:52:33
Speaker 6: Issues around here, and my curtain fell down, so I wake up bright and early from the sun, and I just haven't replaced it yet. But we're rocking and rolland I pay too much for the shoe box apartment and stay in comes don't make enough to know about that.
00:52:48
Speaker 4: Do you guys disagree with my Yankee take? Do you think, like, let's say they signed Carlos Korea and that's it, do you think their World Series contenders?
00:52:57
Speaker 6: I think if they do nothing, their World Series contenders. I think it's with that much talent as al, he's a World Series contender. I did the Yankees seem to recently find ways to come up short, But if the Yankees did nothing at shortstop, I would still say that they have like a shot. I wouldn't be surprised if they put it together and made the World Series, you know, like that's that's a team that again, they could call up Oswell Perrazza three months into the season and have at least a slick defender over there who has back to ball skills. That lineup is so good it doesn't really matter. I think they're contenders no matter what it's seen.
00:53:28
Speaker 4: This year after year, it's the same line.
00:53:30
Speaker 6: I agree, but they're still contenders every year. They're still Vegas favorites every year, so like these stops ridiculous. They have like the second best every year. And I also think that they have a lot of minor league arms that are gonna come and help them this year. Ron Marinaccio disgusting. I've been thank you, No I get messages from so I just had Joey Lol Brafito and then call up Astro seventh round pick Lope trains at the same place as Mardinacho in Jersey and he texts me like every day, like, dude, not shows the grossest guy I've ever seen in my life. His change up is like a left handed slider, like he's going to be gross and the fastballs nasty. He was like texting me videos he looks gross. He's going to be a bullpen piece for that next year, mark my words. And then wes Nesky's a great depth piece, you know, for them, whether you need him in the bullpen or spots start or whatever. I think Walda Chuck will be able to help out at some point next year. And like they even have still Clark Schmidt and Davey Garcia for nine to one to one emergency like that they have a lot of depth, more pitching depth than I think they've had in a long time. Sevarino's healthy. There's a lot to like here in terms of the pitching. I think there's more going on than they've had in the.
00:54:41
Speaker 3: Past year after year. I'm hoping.
00:54:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm slightly the pessimistic going in, Like that wild Card game crushed me. I know, it hurt me so bad, like so bad. So I'm I'm I'm not overly optimistic going into this year. They got to prove it to me. Out of all people, it's got to be proven to me.
00:55:02
Speaker 3: Yeah. Hey, speaking of proving it, arm you see that jersey that I have back here?
00:55:10
Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, So how do you have that?
00:55:13
Speaker 3: It's a two a tongue of I loa Alabama jersey. It's my brothers. He got it on a d H gate. So I just borrowed it for the sake of this, because I like, I would run through a billion brick walls for Mike McDaniel right now. Why yeah, Why because he's awesome?
00:55:33
Speaker 4: Oh, you like him because he's kind of like you a little bit.
00:55:35
Speaker 3: Huh.
00:55:37
Speaker 5: Jack's not biracial?
00:55:42
Speaker 3: What did he say? He came out what was his statement about it.
00:55:45
Speaker 4: I saw a tweet, but I never actually got into it.
00:55:47
Speaker 5: No, he's biracial, is That's.
00:55:49
Speaker 3: What he said.
00:55:50
Speaker 6: He counts under the Rooney rule, which was just really funny because he just he just doesn't look anything mixed at all.
00:55:57
Speaker 5: I guess it just caught everybody off guard. He just very very white, like it's that's just what it was.
00:56:03
Speaker 6: It was funny though, But yeah, I guess he's he fits under that.
00:56:06
Speaker 5: That so what the Niners get to pick for that?
00:56:11
Speaker 6: Yeah, they get a pick Like because you're you're your coach that fits under the Rooney rule was taken away, you get it.
00:56:17
Speaker 5: I don't know.
00:56:18
Speaker 6: The Rooney rule to me is so complicated and weird. I loved Floes, but I am happy that they got McDaniel. Like McDaniel's I think going to be the guy that if if anyone's gonna help to figure it out, it's going to be McDaniel. But did you see the video of him, Like it was so forced.
00:56:35
Speaker 5: I think they love him.
00:56:37
Speaker 6: Dolphins pr was like, you know, FaceTime tour right now and he just pulls his phone out and.
00:56:43
Speaker 5: He's like, what's up to h.
00:56:46
Speaker 6: And then like talking back and forth, like we're gonna have a really nice, long professional relationship.
00:56:52
Speaker 5: I'm just like, I loved it. It was awesome. The most awkward, cringey thing I've ever heard. But yeah, I'm all in on McDaniel. I'm cool with that.
00:56:59
Speaker 3: Fire me up. I'm so here for Mike mcdad. Dude.
00:57:01
Speaker 4: The Knicks didn't make any trades.
00:57:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys got Cam Reddish to learn well, and then Reddish didn't go to the Lakers. That was the thing, Like LA was looking to get Reddish from the Knicks. I think it was like Westbrook for Reddish, Like that's what they were trying to shop there.
00:57:18
Speaker 6: This Well, Westbrook the worst player and Reddish less. I would register they won't play him, Yeah, I would, dude. I'd rather have Jack low post minimum elbow elbow jumpers. Yeah, you for the minimum or Westbrook for his contract? In me you every day of the week. You guys know much money he's making.
00:57:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, for.
00:57:44
Speaker 4: Making forty seven million next year. At least Harden opted into his forty seven The NBA.
00:57:50
Speaker 5: Like NBA, Alright, it's not the same.
00:57:55
Speaker 4: NFL is better, go Rams fired up. NFL is better than the NBA.
00:58:01
Speaker 3: Pete last words on the Super Bowl before we send people into the weekend.
00:58:05
Speaker 4: Rams minus four lock it in. They're winning by thirty. RAM will win the Super Bowl behind Matt Stafford and Cooper Cup. Super Bowl MVP plus six hundred Cooper Cup. Hmmm, over modulated as shit. I love it, Arm, What are you thinking?
00:58:22
Speaker 6: That's gonna be a fun one to look into? Like the wave forms when you go to edit that out, that's where, that's where. That's where Pete was yelling.
00:58:30
Speaker 3: Scream.
00:58:31
Speaker 6: I hope it's close. I think the Rams are like the obvious pick. I just hope it's a good game and I hope nobody gets hurt.
00:58:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't want to see me happy and my Rams win.
00:58:41
Speaker 3: I hope both teams have fun. Now. I kind of wont Joe Burrow to way.
00:58:44
Speaker 5: Not really because like if it was the Yankees, dude, like, i'd want it for you.
00:58:48
Speaker 3: I really know you wouldn't.
00:58:49
Speaker 5: No, I really would, I really really would. I swear I really would. I really would want.
00:58:54
Speaker 3: I don't believe you unless I think you want us to be depressed.
00:58:58
Speaker 5: I think no, I would want.
00:59:00
Speaker 6: I would want you to get the Yankees World Series. I would not the Rams is too recent, man, like they just moved to LA.
00:59:04
Speaker 3: I get it.
00:59:05
Speaker 6: You have every right to be the fan of them, but you haven't waited long enough.
00:59:08
Speaker 5: You haven't. You haven't suffered enough good play.
00:59:11
Speaker 3: I haven't suffered.
00:59:12
Speaker 5: Just yeah, like, suffer a little bit more.
00:59:14
Speaker 3: They lost to Super Bowl when I was a fan.
00:59:16
Speaker 5: Of Yeah, that was the worst game I ever watched in my life. But that game so I sucked.
00:59:21
Speaker 4: I had a teaser, one of the worst bets I've ever made. I had the over like thirty six points. I teased it all the way down and I took I don't even remember what I had the rams. I had the rams like it's a fourteen point something crazy and the game finished thirteen to three.
00:59:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's laughing at am. I just screaming on my an.
00:59:40
Speaker 5: No.
00:59:41
Speaker 3: No, I mean your ability to just recount like that bet is hilarious. I could do a lot of them. I've made a lot of them. We'll save them for next week. We'll save them for not gambling advice. Okay, you sign off with that on not Gambling Advice, But on the Just Baseball Show, you sign off with thank you, everybody,
Speaker 1: At times, the Stage League.
